[Doodle Dump || Bisexual Parents]
*Flashbacks to my shitty au where Vaggie and Angels (and I guess the rest of the gang)'s old designs exist and live with their current designs for no reason other than I said so*
For this au I had the idea Vaggie and Angel basically act like parents to their current selves.

Word Count: 4531
Series Masterlist Here/Donate to my Ko-Fi
You bite the nail of your thumb as the limo the three of you were riding in slowly inches forward towards the building where the event was taking place. Even with the tinted windows, the flashing lights were blinding you as the press snapped constant photos of each person as they stepped onto the red carpet in front of them.
“Hey. Everything’s going to be ok, sweetheart.”, Eddie whispered as he took hold of your hand and threaded his fingers between your own. “These things still make me nervous to but trust me, you got this. If anyone was meant to be seen, baby, it’s you.”
His sweet words calm you a bit as you tilt towards him and kiss his lips.
“Remember, just be yourself.”, Steve grinned as he pushed some of your salon styled hair behind your ear.
“Be a pain in the ass. Got it.”, you tease making both boys chuckle as they leaned back in their seats and straightened up their extremely expensive but extremely sexy suits. “I feel a little out of my element.”
“I know, honey. Thank you for coming with us though. You look fucking beautiful.”
When a horde of stylists appeared at their apartment that afternoon, you thought they were only there for them since technically you were their guest but when a couple of people dragged you into the bedroom to get you ready, you literally stood there in silence accepting your fate.
They spoke at you the entire time, asking questions before answering them on their own.
“Ok, baby, now what kind of look would make you comfortable? The boys said you were going with them and since they are wearing black and pink, we were thinking a pink sleeveless with this slit up the thigh. Of course, we’ll keep your hair down. Is that ok? Oh my god, you are going to be so gorgeous!”
By the time they were finished, you hardly recognized yourself but both men’s reactions were priceless.
“Mr. Munson, do you HAVE to smoke?”
“Yes, Stephanie, I do if you don’t want me shaking like a leaf.”
“Oh wow, Y/N, that dress is just stunning!”, their stylist beamed as you stepped out.
As Eddie’s eyes glanced your way, he was starting to remove a cigarette from his pack but as soon as he saw you, they fell out of his hand making you giggle as he fumbled trying to catch them.
“Fuck! Shit! I mean… wow… princess, you look…”
“Breathtaking.”, Steve finished for him.
“Not half as good as you two.”, you grin as you kiss his lips as well. “Please don’t leave me alone out there.”
“We won’t, Y/N. I swear. One of us will be with you. If for any reason these reporters want to ask us questions, just stay behind us ok?”
Before you even get a chance to answer, the limo door is pulled open and you watch with amazement as their faces seem to change while stepping onto the carpet. Still holding your hand, he guides you out as your grip on him tightens and the lights of the cameras flash.
“Mr. Harrington! Mr. Munson! Right here please! Turn your head this way! Eddie! Eddie! Steve! STEVEN! Over here!”
Someone with a headset appears to greet them, taking your arm and tugging you to the side while both men stand silently smiling as their photos are taken. They appeared confident especially Eddie who at random points stuck out his tongue causing Steve to laugh at his friend but you could tell this was an image. Another headspace they needed step into to do what needs to be done and control the image that the viewing public sees.
“Come on, Miss, we need to get you inside.”
“Oh, no. They told me to stay here—”
“Well, I’m sorry, honey, but you can’t. I need to keep the line moving.”
Thankfully, Steve glanced your way, taking note of your panicked expression before hastily thanking them for their time and power walking your way.
“Hey, no, no. She stays with either me or Eddie. No exceptions. This is her first time at one of these.”
“I understand that, Mr. Harrington, but I have to do my job.”
“Ok, well then I guess we’re done with interviews.”
“Steve, it’s ok. I’m ok. I’ll just wait inside by the door.”
His eyes scan you over as the girl behind you anxiously dances on her feet.
“Right inside, alright? Don’t wonder around.”
***
When they finally made it inside, a small huff left their lips at the fact that you weren’t waiting by the door. It took them a few moments to find you standing by the bar talking to a couple Steve definitely knew. You seemed a bit more relaxed and as they made their way to you a big smile stretched across your face.
“Hey! Finally. You two were out there forever.”, you giggled. “Mr. Carmody and his wife Annie were keeping me company.”
“When she told us she knew you, Mr. Harrington, I had to poke her brain.”, the man chuckled.
“Please, sir, call me Steve.”
“Your office has reached out to me a few times but unfortunately I’ve been out of town dealing with some chaos.”
“Yes, sir. I read about what was happening to that building your renovating out west. We can help with that. My firm is really good with locking that down and getting things back on track.”
“So, I’ve read, Steve and what Y/N tells me as well. Look I don’t want to pull your attention from this beautiful young lady any longer. Why don’t you meet me in my office on Monday at about 9am and we can talk shop?”
Steve nods and shakes the man’s hand as he hands him his card and turns with his wife to leave. As soon as he disappears, the mogul spins around and lifts you in his arms in a big bear hug making you giggle till he places you on your feet again.
“I have been trying to get a meeting with him for months! How did you do that? How did you even…”
“Because I listen to you when you talk.”, you smile. “And I read a bit more about what you do. I thought maybe I could help.”
A bit too excitedly, Steve tugged on your hand and pulled you to a more secluded area before crashing his lips to yours.
“You…are…amazing.”, he praises between pecks.
“I know.”, you grin as your hands cup his cheeks.
As the night progressed, you found yourself getting more and more comfortable with the environment around you as both men introduced you to different people. When a lull finally presented itself, however, you scurried away to the outdoor patio and exhaled as you leaned over the balcony.
“Excuse me, young lady, but I believe you’re supposed to stay by one of us.”, Eddie teased as he pulled a cigarette out of his pocket, lighting the end, and balanced over the concrete beside you. “Oh shit. I’m sorry. Is it ok if I…”, he asked gesturing towards the stick between fingers.
“Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because you look fucking gorgeous and I don’t want to ruin your ensemble here with cigarette smoke.”
“Nah, baby. You know I don’t mind when you ruin me.”
The rockstar laughs as he ever so slightly leans close to you and you respond by looping your arm through his, tilting your head against his bicep.
“You’re doing well by the way. You know how to handle the heathens that run around here.”
“I’m a teacher, Mr. Munson. I know how to handle rowdy kids.”, you giggle. “I just…I don’t want to embarrass you in any way. This is your life, you know?”
“Nuh uh.”, Eddie shakes his head. “Music and buildings are our life… you…are our life.”
As he trips over his words, you can’t help but glance up towards his face as he stares off into the New York skyline. For men that were extremely confident, they both turned into nervous shy teenagers when they mentioned your relationship with them. You imagined part of that was because of Gina and what she put them through.
“I know we haven’t know you very long but you’ve done more for us in over 5 months than anyone has done in the years that they’ve known us.”
“Why do I doubt that?”
“Ok, maybe, my uncle but don’t tell him that or else it will go to his head.”, he teased making you smile.
“What are you two freaks doing out here?”, Steve joked as he came up to lean on your other side.
“Escaping the boredom that is this party. I’m not going to lie though; I’m really fucking hungry.”
“Me to.”, you add with a whine causing both boys to laugh.
“How about we sneak out and go get some food?”
#################
You couldn’t stop giggling as you munched on the greasy burger in your hand while Eddie took another sip of champagne from the bottle in the car that was driving you three around.
“Fuck. Steph is gonna kill me.”, Steve fussed as he hastily cleaned the ketchup that had fallen onto his tux.
“Can we do something fun? I’m not ready to call it a night.”
“What did you have in mind, sweetheart?”
“Can we go see one of Steve’s buildings? I’d love to see one.”
“You’ve been in one, honey, with your class. My office is in a building I purchased. Plus, I’m not sure looking at one of my places would exactly constitute as ‘fun’.”, the mogul laughs.
“Oh, come on. Pleeeease, Daddy.”, you playfully pout, clapping your hands in excitement when he gives in.
After he gives the driver instructions, you curl up in both their sides as you wait to reach your destination. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t surprised when the vehicle stopped outside of what looked to be a stadium.
“You own this? Do you own the team as well?”, you laugh as Eddie takes your hand and helps you out of the car.
“Uh no. That is way too much work BUT I do come to the games from time to time.”
“Steve used to be the star basketball player in our town.”
You beamed up at him as he nodded in agreement while you followed them blindly before ending up on a well light basketball court.
“Is someone here?”
“No ma’am. Just us. These lights are timed so they’ll turn off closer to the morning.”
The sound of dribbling echoed through the stadium as the rockstar came into view bouncing a basketball.
“Want to play?”
Smirking, you took the ball from his hand, bouncing it before shooting your shot and making the basket.
“Oooo Stevie. You got some competition!”
“It seems I do. Want to make it interesting?”
“How so, Mr. Harrington?”, you sing with your big grin making them swoon.
They loved seeing you happy.
“How about we take turns and for every basket we miss we have to take off an item of clothing.”
“Well, that’s not fair, Daddy. You have more pieces than I do.”
“Well, honey, make sure not to suck then.”
While you and Eddie laugh, Steve bounces the ball and shoots it from the free throw line, making his basket. The two of you follow suit, mimicking his moves perfectly while making the shot.
“So, you were a basketball star, huh? MVP?”
“Yup.”, Steve answered obnoxiously popping his lips on the P as he made another basket. “And swim captain to. None of it impressing my dad by any means.”
Taking your turn, you moved out of the way to allow Eddie his.
“What about you?”
“No sports for me, babe. I was hanging out with the other nerds playing D&D till all hours of the evening and selling drugs to cheerleaders.”
“Oof, you bad boy.”
After only hitting the rim, the rockstar sighed as he took off his jacket and tossed it to the side.
“What about you, pretty girl?”
“I was a journalism kid. I loved to write and read.” Steve missed his next shot and having removed his jacket long ago, unbuttoned his shirt and placed with the others. “I know you said you both grew up together but how did you officially meet?”
“We didn’t exactly float in similar circles but—shit—“, Eddie whines as he takes off his shirt as well. “We didn’t really start talking until senior year. Learned we both had a lot in common.”
“How so?”
“Asshole dads, our moms weren’t in the picture, people in the town misjudged us…”, the mogul answered. “Everyone thought I was this fucking stupid jock with an ego.”
“Which to be fair, Harrington, was an image you catered to for a while there.”
“To make my dad happy. I learned a little too late that would never happen.” Missing his shot again, he took off his belt and pushed down his pants. “I’m starting to think we misjudged HER, Ed.”
“Most men do.”, you giggle. “What about you, Eddie? How did the town see you?”
The rockstar slide playfully to your side and you squeaked when he spanked your behind.
“What did we say about that ‘most men do’ shit?”
“You’re not like most men.”
“Mhmm. Give me something.”, he demands light-heartedly as he holds out his palm.
Jokingly glaring his way, you reach under your dress and shimmy down your panties, slamming them into his hand.
“These are cute.”, he grins as he throws them on top of their discarded clothing. “And they saw me kind of how you did before, some troublemaking bad boy except they thought I worshipped Satan or some shit.”
“You?”
“I know. Weird, huh? Fuck!”
With the men now in just their boxers, you beamed with pride.
“Ay, calm down, little one. You’re young and have a lot more energy than we do.”, Steve smiled as he ran his palm along his stomach.
“Calm down, Mr. Harrington, you both aren’t THAT old. Now if I make this last shot, can you show me one of those rich people suites?”
“You mean the places that look like our apartment but are the size of yours? Yeah, sure, why not.”, Eddie chuckled.
“Last time I checked your apartment doesn’t have a hot tub.”
“How do you know these do?!”
“Please. I’m broke. You think I haven’t fantasied about watching the game from one of those rooms?!”, you laugh as you casually bounce the ball in your hands. “Spend some time in that warm water, naked, with a glass of champagne and a sexy man between my legs. Both or three of us probably tripping in sweat with heavy panting and just being utterly filthy. Oof.”
Silently, they watched as you tossed the basketball in the air and you grinned at the sound of the swish as it effortlessly made it in.
Grabbing your hand, Steve practically tugged your arm off while Eddie hastily gathered their clothes and all but ran to the elevator that would take you to the suites above.
“Oh wow.”, you breathe as you take in the room. “This is gorgeous.”
“Not as gorgeous as you.”, the rockstar smiles sheepishly as he helps you out of your gown and carefully places it on one of the chairs nearby.
“I didn’t realize the tub would be this small. Is that ok?”
“Depends.”, Steve answers as he slides into the water and flicks a button that allows it to come to life. “Are you asking because Eddie and I may bump into each other or because you think we’ll have trouble being comfortable because of your body?”
“Steve and I have bumped into each other before. I mean we are sharing a beautiful woman so skin touches from time to time.”, Eddie follows as he jumps in causing his friend to roll his eyes when some of the water spill onto the carpet. “And there’s no place we’d rather be, babe, then scrunched together with you in between us.”
They both reached out their hands that you take as you step into the tub, pleasantly sighing at the feeling of the hot liquid bubbling against your skin.
Their lips were all over you immediately as they trailed along your neck, shoulder, back, and chest. You often marveled at how in sync both men always seemed to be in when it came to pleasing you. They both grinded against you but Steve was the first to slide his cock into your pussy as he tugged your back to his chest.
“Fuck…”, you whine as your hand reaches down to stroke Eddie’s length. The rings on his fingers felt cool against your skin as he gripped your jaw and kissed your lips. “Fuck, that feels so good.”
“Definitely come a long way from ‘I don’t want to ruin your suit, Daddy.’”, the rockstar teases making you and Steve breathily laugh between pants. “Our dirty girl.”
The mogul abruptly pulled out of you but before you had time react, Eddie lifted your leg around his waist and slide his cock into your core. The sudden change had your pussy clenching around him as your forehead rested against his own.
“Y-You like that, sweetheart? Being passed between us…shit.”
“Being used by us?”, Steve added as you nodded. “Say it, honey.”
“I like…like being used by you, Daddy. Please, I’m gonna…cum.”
Eddie removed his length, spinning you around as the mogul guides himself into you again pumping his hips at such a fast rhythm that more water spilled out of the tub. Your fingers tangled in his hair that was beginning to dampen with warm water and his sweat. The sight alone had your cunt tighten even more and you whimper as the coil snaps.
“Miss is it ok that the tub is small…”, he groans in your ear as he continues to thrust into you. “You like being this—fuck—close with no room t-to breathe.”
Hands pressed into your tummy and Steve pulled out once more for Eddie to replace him. Your head fell on his shoulder and he tenderly nibbled on your neck while the other man encased his lips around your nipple with his tongue flicking against the bud. Slamming his hips into yours, you listened as the rockstar grunted against your skin till you couldn’t take it anymore and came with a loud groan.
When your body went limp against them wet hands cupped your face and tilted your head upright.
“Hey. Look at me, baby girl. Are you ok?”
“M-More. Want more, Daddy, please.”
They both chuckled as Steve reached over to turn off the hot tub and carefully lift you out of the water. Neither of you made it far as he laid flat on his back against the floor with you on top of him; your head resting on his chest.
“Here, sweetheart. Drink this.”, Eddie instructed, handing you a bottle of water that you gladly accepted. “You to, Steven. We aren’t young men anymore.”
“Oh my god.”, his friend laughed as his did what he commanded. Ignoring their banter, your lips trailed up the body of the man underneath you. “So needy, honey.”
“For you two.”, you coo softly as your nose grazes his. “Let me help you cum to, Daddy, please.”
“Go ahead, baby.”, Steve whispers. “Ride Daddy’s cock.”
Resting his hands on your sides, you both moan as you slowly sink down onto him. As you start to roll your hips, you feel his tip nudge past that spongy spot inside you causing you to tremble and throw you head back in ecstasy.
“Fuck, Y/N. Move.”
“I-I am Daddy. Fuck you’re so deep.”
Roughly his palms grip both sides of your head and bring you down till his face is inches from yours.
“Don’t tease me, Y/N. We didn’t with you. Now, ride my dick like you fucking mean it.” Steve’s mouth fell open when you did what he told you to, bouncing aggressively as his hands found their way back to your hips to guide you. “That’s it, baby. Just like that. So fucking beautiful like this. Fuck! I’m so glad your ours.”
Collapsing flat onto him, his arms wrap around your back and he plants his feet into the floor, allowing him to thrust his cock into you at a rapid pace that overwhelms you as you push back against his hold. Steve doesn’t allow you mobility so you submit to the feeling as you melt into him, clinging to his body till you shake and cum hard with him following as he milks his seed into your cunt.
Lifting you off the mogul, Eddie placed you on a nearby table on your back and yanked you to the edge. With his palms clinging to your thighs for leverage, he thrust his cock into your entrance and pounded his hips into your own, desperate for a release after watching you ride his friend.
“Fuck, sweetheart…so fucking tight…Mmph.”
“Oh my god.”, you mewl as you drag your nails down his sweat glistening chest.
“I need you to cum again, baby. Cum all over Daddy’s dick.” When you shake your head, his hand promptly flies to your throat and firmly squeezes. “I wasn’t asking, little girl. Don’t tell me no.”
As he rolls his waist, your eyes roll closed as your back arches and your arms fall over the side of the table giving Eddie a perfect view of your tits as they bounce with each pump of his length.
“That’s our girl. Just l-let go, Y/N.”
His cock repeatedly abuses your g-spot and you grip his wrists to ground you as you whine loudly till the ball in your belly drops.
The rockstar’s jaw clenches at the feeling as his head hangs and he chases his own high. Tilting his body over yours, he grunts as his rhythm sputters and you feel him warm your insides.
“F-Fuck. Good…good girl.”, he coos as his lips tenderly trail along your cheek to your neck. “You ok, princess?”
“T-Tired, Daddy. Wanna sleep now.”
Both men chuckle softly as Eddie carefully pulls out of your sore, aching cunt and reaches for a towel to clean you with while Steve searches around the room till he makes a tiny aha noise when he finds what he’s looking for.
“I don’t think we can sleep here, baby. But let’s get you back home so you can curl up in bed.”
“Your home?”
You groan as the rockstar lifts you to your feet but holds you under your arms to keep you steady as the mogul lifts your leg to slide a pair of shorts up your body.
“These may be a bit tight, honey, but I think you’d prefer this for the time being till we get you back to, yes, our apartment which is yours too.”, Steve beams as he places the shirt over your head. “Do you think you can walk?”
You adorably shake your head and Eddie lifts you in his arms as Steve leads the way out of the stadium towards his car. Through the ride home you pleasantly sighed at their gentle touches as they ran their fingers through your hair or along your legs.
When they placed you in Steve’s bed, you didn’t even hesitate when you pulled them both as close to you as possible. Because of everything they had been through they were never sure if the clinginess was you or the headspace but they relished it either way. They would do anything for you if you asked but knew you never would. You weren’t like their ex; you were strong and independent. They knew you could take care of yourself but chose to be vulnerable for them and they loved you for that.
Wait…
Their eyes met as the realization hit them hard.
They loved you.
So many different questions and scenarios ran through their minds as insecurities of their own started to seep in. Those feelings were validated when both their phones pinged at the same time.
###################
The following morning you woke up with a big smile on your face and felt more at peace than you had in a very long time. As you leaned up to stretch, you realized you were in bed alone.
“Eddie? Steve?”, you called to no response.
Reaching for your phone, your eyebrows knitted together when you found a piece of paper taped to the screen.
“Y/N,
We had to leave due to something that came up but, please, feel free to have some breakfast and a shower before you head back to your apartment.”
Head back to my apartment? Are they asking or telling me? Didn’t they say last night that their apartment was also mine?
“We are going to be extremely busy these next few days so we may not answer texts or calls.
Honey, do you remember the promise you made to us about not looking us up on Google or anything like that? Please, keep that for us.
Talk with you as soon as we can…
Eddie and Steve.”
You blinked as you read and reread the note they left you. You understood they were busy men and that you promised not to search them on any news outlets or gossip sites but how could they expect you to not have questions after a cryptic note like this?
Sighing, you got dressed bypassing breakfast and a shower to head back to your lonely apartment. Unsure of what to do with yourself, you clicked on your TV, channel surfing till you found something even slightly interesting. You wish was granted when Steve and Eddie’s face illuminated your screen.
Bolting upright, you turned up the volume.
“And on our top story today, lawyers of Gina Frost, the daughter of actress Libby Frost, finally released the identities of the two men she’s seeking to get palimony from after a 4-year relationship she claims to have had. Business Tycoon Steven Harrington who just made a massive 400 million deal and Guitarist of the popular grammy winning band Corroded Coffin Edward Munson have been named in the lawsuit filed by the young actress herself. Lawyer Daryl Barnes made a statement saying:
‘It’s not right for my client to have her face plastered all over social media where she is demeaned constantly and belittled for the completely valid choice she is making when it comes to these two men who have failed to keep promises they made to this young lady!’
No comment yet has been made by either celebrity who were seen out just last night at a benefit with a yet to be identified young lady at their side.”
The remote shattered against your hardwood floor as it fell from your grasp.
“Yet to be identified.”
Your own mobile device came to life as messages and tags came through almost in an instant.
How…how could they not tell you? How could they leave you alone when all this was coming to light?
Fury overtook your shock as you threw on your jacket and stomped out the front door.

The next morning, sitting in the kitchen, you and your mother idly chatter away, with your boss mostly focused on reading through emails on his laptop at the breakfast bar, until your dad finally comes down, leaving a descending silence in his wake. You scoop up your yogurt and granola, staring into your bowl, and feeling like a scalded teenager.
"Taehyung, do you fish?" your dad's gravelly voice shatters the quiet and has you all frozen, awaiting a response.
"Fish? As in with a fishing rod?" he replies bewildered, spoonful of cereal in mid-air.
"That's usually how it works, yes. Unless you'd prefer to try catching them with your hands?" your dad replies as he pours his coffee and eats his toast straight-faced staring out of the back door into the garden.
"I've never tried any form of fishing, to be honest."
"Well, today's your lucky day, you're coming out on the boat with me."
You watch as Mr. Kim's eyes widen and for the first time since you've met him, you see genuine fear. "I'm not sure fishing is my thing, I-"
"You're about to become part of this family, son, I'm not making a request. You're coming out on the boat with me and learning how to fish. It's a tradition that goes back generations, that my dad did with me and his dad before that." your father's tone is so blunt and harsh, you can see that not even your back chatting boss would  argue. "Be ready to leave in ten."
Your father exits the room quickly, taking the awkward air with him and lifting the cloud of heavy silence.
"I've never been part of a tradition before." your boss' wistful voice sounds quietly into the stillness, as you take in his strange expression, a hint of sadness revealing itself in unguarded eyes, only momentarily before they harden back to unreadable.
"Don't worry," your mum interjects. "he's a big softie really."
"Who knows, maybe he won't bring you back." you tease, sounding hopeful and making him shift slightly in his seat.
"I’m sure you’ll win him over and you won't have to worry about anything," your mum interjects, playfully slapping you on the arm. “Besides, while the boys are out, you and me are having afternoon tea in town.”
“Yes ma’am.” playfully you salute her and finish your breakfast.
Sure enough, Mr. Kim is ready and downstairs in exactly 10 minutes, a sombre and concerned frown creasing his brow.
“Can you fish?” he asks, with a childlike curiosity that you find oddly endearing.
“My dad had two daughters and a tradition to uphold, what do you think?” smirking at him, you attempt to offer him some parting wisdom, "Listen," you whisper, "my dad is like a human lie detector, he sees through people much quicker than anyone I've ever met. Try to be as honest as you can…without completely being yourself."
He turns to you and you see a flash of annoyance flit across his eyes. "Am I that awful?"
You stare at him, perplexed as to what kind of pep talk he thought he was going to get. "Do you really want me to answer that?"
He grunts, "forget it." before storming out the front door and climbing into your dad's truck.
Staring off after them, hoping they come back a little more positive than they've left, but if Mr. Kim fell off the boat and was never found, it also would not be the worst thing that could happen.
******
"So, tell me how it happened? You and…Mr Kim." Your mother hesitates, unsure whether to stand on ceremony because he's your boss or to be casual because he's your fiancé. Even thinking those words seem absurd, you yourself can't even get past calling him anything other than Mr Kim.
She eyes you over her teacup, as she blows the molten liquid inside. Steam billowing out around her face, making her look like a mafia boss waiting for your next wrong answer. Was she suspicious? You couldn't help the nerves bubbling away inside you while you prepared to lie to her.
"As far as I was concerned, you hated this man." She says, matter-of-factly.
"I still do…at times. He infuriates me beyond belief, I hate his opinions on things, the way he talks to people, everything has to be his way and-"
"What do you actually like about him?" She cuts you off, forcing you to take a breath. While wanting to be as honest as possible, this question is going to be the hardest to answer.
"Well, I like his don't-give-a-fuck attitude."
Your mother cringes at your use of language but the corners of her mouth pull up slightly, a giveaway that she's secretly missed it.
"He doesn't care what anyone thinks about him and I admire that." pausing to think, your mind racing a mile a minute, grasping at straws. "He's very ambitious and focused, which is how he's come so far in his career."
You struggle to think of anything else without lying, so you say the most clichéd answer that comes to mind. "Besides, there is a different side to him that he doesn't show anybody. A gentle, softer side, that he hides underneath that mask."
You're convinced that while that might be true for most people, you doubt very much it's true in this case. Some people are just entitled arseholes and your boss is very much one of them.
"And I suppose that him being heartbreakingly handsome helps?" your mother smirks at you from behind her cup.
"There are worse faces to look at." you reply, leaning back on your chair, stomach full of sandwiches and cakes.
You hate it, but your mother is right. He is devastatingly good looking. He has the type of face that should be on a billboard somewhere, outlined in neon lights and illuminated for all to see. But an ugly personality changes the way you look, even for the most attractive face.
"And what about…" your mother raises her eyebrows hoping you'll get the hint of what she's referring to…you do.
"Ma!"
"What?" she feigns, batting her eyelashes innocently. "It's important to be married to a man who knows how to satisfy you."
Laying your head on your folded arms on the table, you let out an amused sigh.
"While sex is not the main part of a marriage, it is a big part. A healthy sex life helps keep your marriage interesting, not to mention helps with communication and your overall bond."
Groaning, you're still unable to lift your head to look at her.
"I'm just making sure that the man you're going to spend the rest of your life with, will make you happy in every sense. There's far too many egotistical men thinking they have all the power, for you to be faking your orgasms for their benefit. I mean, I thank god every day for your father, now he definitely keeps marriage interes-"
"Ma!" you finally meet her eyes. "I do not need to hear anything about you and dad!" you grimace, shaking the image from your mind, "and I can assure you, there is no need for faking orgasms."
She nods, seeming satisfied with your answer and goes back to sipping her drink.
Mr. Kim is probably far too selfish to be good in bed. Most definitely. But now your mother has planted the seed, you were finding it hard not to think about it. Your mind wonders what his physique looks like underneath those fitted suits he wears. You want to think it'll be nothing special, but you can tell just by the way his shirt sits against him, that you would only be lying to yourself.
The image of what he's like in bed is one you can't seem to shake. Is he a giver or receiver? Does he like to be dominant or submissive? Or even, is he gentle or rough…let's face it, nothing about this man seems gentle. You wonder for a brief moment what his lips would feel like against yours, when your mother interrupts, “look who's back,” she nods to the window, seeing your father's truck pulling up outside the local fishmongers.
Will they both have come back unharmed? Will Mr Kim have tried to mind his manners and keep his rude remarks to himself? God, you hoped so.
Glancing over at your mum; you see her amusement twinkle in her eyes, “I'm sure it will be fine, let's go and find out.”
Grabbing your bag, you head straight for the door, nerves twisting your stomach and making you regret eating so much at lunch.
The sound of talking and laughter comes from within the shop. Your dad must be sharing stories with the local fishmongers, something that must be making Mr Kim feel very awkward and you can't help the slight smile that plays at the corner of your mouth at the thought.
"Hello boys," your mum says, taking the lead into the store, “how was your trip?”
The sight that greets you makes you pause, frozen in the doorway. Your dad; smiling with an arm around Mr Kim’s shoulders. What universe have you stumbled into? How could this be possible?
Your father winks at you. Seeming much more himself as he comes over and beams when he lays eyes on your mother, closing the distance quickly to cuddle her and kiss her cheek.
Turning back to you, he pulls you under his arm, "your boy done good. He's a natural."
Your head snaps over as your mouth gapes open, shocked at your dad's sudden change of heart. Not to mention, Mr Kim’s eyes wide with an excited gleam. He looks like a different person, relaxed and…happy, for once he's actually smiling. Something you've never seen in the three years you've known him. For a moment, you're struck at just how gorgeous his boxy grin is. Breath frozen in your lungs, as you blink furiously in an attempt to rid yourself of the spell that's been placed upon you.
"You caught a fish?" you ask, in utter disbelief.
"Several actually." he looks down at you with a smug grin.
Your eyes go straight to your father, frowning, you feel utterly betrayed by him. You assumed he'd never buy into your boss' charade and hate him as much as you do. If you were being honest, a small part of you really hoped Mr Kim would fail and that your dad wouldn't approve of the wedding. No more lies and yet…here you are.
"What's that face for, Princess?" your dad asks, as he squeezes your shoulder, comfortingly, "worried I wouldn't bring him back?" Smirking down at you, you watch his face carefully until he meets your questioning gaze with serious eyes. "He's ok."
There it is. Confirmation of your dad's seal of approval. Any words you had are swallowed whole by shock but still desperately trying to escape, judging by the taste of disdain that is repeating on you, burning its way up your throat.
How could he have fooled your father?
There wasn't a time you recall your dad ever being wrong about someone and today was a first. The first of him being duped and believing a lie, to make matters worse, it’s a lie that you're partly orchestrating.
But for some strange reason, watching Mr Kim's face light up as he shows your mother and the fishmonger his catches, pushes away your guilt and replaces it with both; bewilderment and fascination. How can something as simple as fishing inspire this response from your boss?
Whilst you and your mother wait, Mr Kim and your dad sell their catches to the fishmonger. “See, didn't I say everything would be fine?” she almost gloats, making you roll your eyes in response.
When they're done, your mother and father head off to the grocery store to get some food for dinner. Your mother convinces you to show Mr Kim around the town. His good mood clearly extended beyond fishing as he agrees, much to your surprise.
“All things considered,” Mr Kim starts, “it's small, this place, but it does have some endearing qualities.”
Frowning over at him, you can't help the response that leaves your mouth. “Ok, who are you and what have you done with Mr. Kim?”
His face falls, and his cheeks taint with a pink blush that makes you instantly regret your words, not wanting the good mood of his to disappear.
“I'm kidding!” you nudge him playfully on his side, “besides you're actually quite handsome when you smile.”
His head snaps up at you then, his lips tugging up at the corners but his eyes are unreadable, something in them you couldn't quite put your finger on, but it made your stomach flip just the same.
"In all seriousness, how did you do it?" you ask into the silence, acutely aware of the touch of his arm on yours, as you walk side by side down the row of shops.
“Do what?”
“Get my dad to like you.”
Hearing a slight huff from him before his face falls again, “I tried to do what you said.”
Why on earth would he ever listen to you, that would definitely be a first?
“You tried not to be yourself?” you reply sarcastically, trying to lighten the mood again.
“Yeah.”
Hearing the sadness in his tone, you immediately chastise yourself. The silence fills the air, thick and heavy like a quilt of loneliness, enveloping the two of you. Attempting to think of a million things to say to ease the tension, you don't really trust yourself to speak anymore, until you hear him mumble, "I haven't always been like this."
Looking over at him, your gaze meets puppy dog eyes and for once, you're at a loss for words. Your big, bad boss suddenly doesn't seem so scary anymore. But just as you take a breath to ask him about his statement, his attention is drawn into the shop behind you.
“I need to grab a new deodorant, I'll just be a minute.” And he rushes in, not meeting your eyes again. You wander over to the next shop, a bakery, glancing at the pastries in the window. The thought of apple pie for dessert crosses your mind, when a familiar voice halts you and glues your feet to the floor, “Y/n?”
Suddenly, your stomach feels full of rocks, weighing you down and making acid rise up into your throat. Forcing yourself to face him, you turn to see none other than your ex-boyfriend. Kim Seokjin.
“I thought that was you.” He continues, eyes roaming over you, in a way that makes your skin crawl, “You look amazing.”
Snapping your jaw shut, in hopes of not embarrassing yourself by starting a fight in the middle of this tiny town and airing your past dirty laundry.
“What are you doing back in town?” he adds, smiling arrogantly, “we should have coffee and catch up like old times, I–”
“Sorry to have kept you waiting, my love.” Mr Kim’s voice next to you soothes you instantly and makes you feel calmer, as does the arm he winds possessively around your waist. “Are you ready to go?” he asks, placing a gentle kiss on your temple. You can't help but stiffen slightly at the action but something about the way his lips feel against your skin, wants you to close your eyes and lean into it.
“Hi there,” Seokjin interrupts awkwardly. “I’m Jin, I'm y/n’s ex, I'm sure she's mentioned me.” The cockiness in his tone makes you want to puke, and wonder what you ever saw in him. He holds his hand out for Taehyung to shake, to which he pointedly ignores, much to your amusement.
“Taehyung, y/n’s fiancé.” he subtly exaggerates, “and no, she hasn't mentioned you before.” He looks down at you, “was Joon here, one of your more serious boyfriends you told me about?”
Catching on to what he's doing, and knowing Seokjin will hate every moment, you dive right in with the ruse. “Not at all.” you respond, laughing and placing a hand on Taehyung's chest.
Seokjin’s jaw clenches. “It's Jin.”
Biting the inside of your cheeks to hold your smile at bay and unable to help the way your chest swells with pride in making him feel uncomfortable. Paybacks one hell of a bitch.
“Sorry Jae, I guess you weren't memorable enough to make the roster.”
Seokjin laughs darkly then, turning your stomach, knowing the real him is about to make himself known.
“I think you'll find, y/n won't ever be able to forget me. You see, I, was her first. I'm ingrained in her mind, whether she likes it or not.”
You tense at Taehyung's side but he only squeezes you reassuringly and pulls you closer to him. Fury rises up inside you, as your hands ball into fists. The overwhelming need to punch him in the face threatening to take over.
You're transported back to a time of a sweet, handsome Seokjin flirting and charming his way into your life. He pursued you for eight months before you fell for him and gave yourself to him. Losing your virginity and regretting it instantly.
The very next morning he turned cold and distant, calling you awful names, making you feel embarrassed and ugly. From that point on you hated yourself and it had been a long road to recover from your insecurities after that. Especially, when you found out he'd only been interested in you as part of a bet with his friends. Taking your virginity, that was the wager and the odds were unfortunately in his favour.
The very next day the entire town knew, with Seokjin spreading many lies about you to your peers from college, much to your dismay and heartbreak. You would never forgive him for what he did, or how he made you feel, but seeing him again, showed you how far you'd come since then.
“And yet, a much more important and impressionable first, is the first time someone makes you come, am I right?” Taehyung's voice is lower and sounding darker than usual, “And I think we both know that it's definitely not you who holds that title.”
Your mouth almost pops open in shock. How would Taehyung even know that information? The only person who knows it is you.
Seokjin's face reddens, his eyes emblazoned with anger, looking like he will explode right in front of you. “Yeah, well, she was awful anyway, had to think about somebody else just to make it through.” he takes a slight step towards you. “Y/n wasn't pretty back then, a little chubby and frumpy. I only dated her out of pity.”
The fury inside rose up and out of your mouth before you could stop it, “funny that, as I remember you whimpering my name as you came, after all of about thirty seconds. I barely had a chance to feel anything. Well,” you glance down at his crotch, “not that there's much to feel there.”
Seokjin's whole face turns a dark shade of pink. “You're still the same little slut, you've always been.” he spits. The words barely have time to get past his lips before Taehyung had his hand around his face in a death grip. Shoving him against the store window.
“If I hear y/n’s name leave your mouth again,” Taehyung's voice sounds deadly, “I will rip these swollen lips off and shove them down your throat. Do you understand?”
Seokjin looks at you alarmed and you have to cut your eyes away to try and quell the anger burning inside you. That's when you notice your parents watching, your mother taking a tentative step towards the scene and your dad, smiling with his arms crossed.
“Don't look at y/n!” Taehyung spits, it's the first time he’s sounded out of control, “don't you ever look at her again, you worthless piece of shit. Now, are. we. clear?”
Seokjin nods, panicked.
“Apologise to y/n and you'll be on your way.” Taehyung releases his face with a thrust, almost tripping him up.
“S-sorry y/n. I'm sorry.” he walks away quickly; head down and avoids everyone's gaze. Until he disappears quickly around the corner.
The adrenaline still pumps ferociously through your body but the thrill you feel overwhelms you. Elation bubbles up inside you as you spin to Taehyung, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him to you. Squealing with excitement, you tighten your hold on him. His body stiffens for a brief moment before he's suddenly lifting you off the ground, laughing at your reaction. You have never heard him laugh before and the sound is intoxicating. Leaning back slightly to watch him, noses almost touching as you're face to face. His expression turns serious, eyes suddenly intense. Overwhelmed with so many emotions, you have no idea which one to follow first but the way your stomach flutters with growing butterflies does not escape your attention.
“Your parents are watching…” he says, as he slowly lowers you back to the ground.
You'd forgotten about them, but inspiration strikes. Removing your arms from around him but keep your body close to his. “You should kiss me, then.”
He raises a questioning eyebrow.
“It will make our relationship more believable.” you add, stating facts but if you are completely honest with yourself, it has nothing to do with keeping up a ruse. You just really want to know what his lips feel like against yours.
“Are you sure?” he whispers, eyes focused on your mouth and already leaning in. All you can do is nod, as you wait eagerly with anticipation.
His hands on your back, encasing you and pulling you closer, as he limits the distance between you. When his mouth touches yours, you momentarily forget how to breathe, as his warm, soft lips enchant you. He moves them slowly against yours and a surprising hunger blossoms inside, snapping you out of your trance, leading you to eagerly return the dance. Your hands stay firmly against the hard planes of his chest, fingertips pressing desperately against his skin. The gentle kiss deepens and there's an urgency from him that you didn't expect. But before you're ready, he pulls away, breathing fast, leaning his forehead against yours.
“Sorry.” He says, quietly and when you pull away you notice the dusting of pink across his cheeks.
“What are you sorry for?”
He shrugs, stepping slightly away from you, “for getting carried away.”
“Don't apologise, I'm not sorry.” you can't help the flirtatious lilt in your voice. His lips turn up into a sideways smirk so sexy you have to force yourself to look away. This afternoon has made you feel dizzy with exhilaration and confusion is muddling your brain.
“I guess I should explain.” you say, feeling embarrassed about sharing the story of Jin.
“No pressure, whenever you're ready.” he says simply, with an understanding that surprises you. “But I think I get it.”
You nod, mulling that over, you would tell him more but not right now, in the middle of this town and under prying eyes. You'd both caused enough of a spectacle.
“Alright, let's go macho man.”
He laughs as he falls in step beside you. “You know, they had no brand names I recognised in that shop.”
“That's because it's an organic shop, Taehyung, the owner makes everything herself.”
His face drops, mouth popping open in shock. “Organic deodorant, no wonder it smells like the woods.”
Giggling, you head back home with your parents, ready to eat dinner and feeling the most comfortable since you arrived.

With your final statement typed out on page forty of your thesis, you save it, shutting your laptop closed and immediately groaning into your hands. All that’s left is to proofread, cite your sources, and you’ll be ready to submit. Finally.
It’s been a six-month long journey, and at last, you’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. In two days, you’ll be rid of the dreaded thesis statement, and in two weeks, you’ll be the proud recipient of a master’s degree. Two years of the most rigorous academic challenge you’ve ever faced in your life, sealed with a piece of paper that you might not even benefit from in the future. This still calls for some celebration, right?
After another minute of grumbling, you take your phone out to text your best friend Gina, who should be off her shift by now.
You: I need a fucking drink.
Gina: highballs at Kanpai?
You: YES
Gina: I’ll pick you up in 15
The Kanpai Cocktail Bar is your favorite downtown. That’s where you first met Gina, who was a bartender there at the time. After she left to work for another establishment, the two of you still frequent Kanpai, the perfect spot for tasty drinks and entertainment, mainly in the form of people-watching.
However, this past semester, your trips there have lessened significantly, too preoccupied with this goddamn thesis. You need a well-deserved break, something to fuel you for the next two days before you click submit.
You quickly get ready, throwing on a blouse and a pair of jeans. Once you receive Gina’s text, stating her arrival, you swing a tiny purse over your shoulder and head outside, greeting her with a hug.
“Did you finish your thesis?” she asks, linking arms with you, starting the walk to the train station.
“For the most part.”
“Good. We can get drunk tonight,” she says, a devious grin on her face.
“Not too drunk, I still have some work to do. I just need to take the edge off.”
“Fine. We’ll get buzzed, maybe find some cute guys to dance with, and call it a night. Deal?”
“Deal,” you agree, unsure about the cute guys part. It’s been a while since you last danced with, or even encountered, a man. With your priority being this paper, you haven’t had time to date or hook up with anyone. You predict that tonight will be no different.
Five stops and you’re downtown, strolling towards Kanpai, which is already packed. Luckily, you find a table and flag a waiter down to place your order. Minutes later, they deliver the first round of cocktails and a plate of fried chicken karaage. You and Gina cheers, feeling relaxed for the first time in months. Halfway through your drink, you notice Gina eyeing something, or someone, in the distance.
“What are you staring at?”
“There’s this really hot guy at the bar. Like, really hot. I’ve never seen anyone like him before.”
You turn to the direction she’s looking at, immediately knowing who she’s referring to. He’s tall, well-built, with strikingly white hair, almost blinding in the dim lighting of the room. The most intriguing thing about him is the black blindfold around his eyes, and a naughty smirk on his face. Leave it to Gina to spot an attractive man instantly; she’s always had excellent radar for that.
“I’m going to invite him to our table,” she announces, sliding out of her chair to stand up.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah. He’s hot. And we have space.”
She’s right; there’s two empty chairs, one beside the both of you. There’s no reason why she shouldn’t invite him, so you don’t question it any further, watching from your peripheral as she heads towards the bar, leaving you momentarily alone to sip on your highball.
You’re almost completely finished with your cocktail when you hear the distinct click of Gina’s heel’s approaching. Craning your neck to face them, you’re surprised to find not two people, but three, standing next to the table. Another man, a tad shorter, similarly well-built, blonde hair, and dressed in a tan business suit. His eyes are also covered with spectacles that resemble steampunk glasses. The spotted tie he wears is interesting, adding a splash of pizazz to the otherwise normal outfit.
You greet them, introducing yourself. Gojo, the one with white hair, happily shakes your hand while his friend, Nanami, maintains a stern expression. They take their seats in the chairs next to you and Gina, Gojo on her side, Nanami on yours.
“Should we order another round of drinks?” Gina suggests, glancing around to catch the waiter.
“Sure! But I’ll have a Shirley Temple. I don’t drink alcohol.”
“You’re at a bar, but you don’t drink?”
“I don’t; he does,” he answers, pointing his thumb across at Nanami. He simply grunts in response.
“What’s your drink of choice?” you ask, tilting your head to face him.
“Sake,” he states, focused on the center of the table avoiding anyone’s gaze. He’s cold, standoffish, and stoic. The type of person you’d typically avoid.
“Should we order sake then?” Gina suggests. “And a mocktail for you, Gojo,” she adds, nudging him flirtatiously.
“I’ll have a little bit,” you say. “I have to finish my thesis, remember?”
“Are you a student?” Gojo inquires, leaning forward, elbows propped up, chin in his palms.
“Grad student. I’m almost done, thankfully.”
“Good for you! This round will be on us then, right Nanamin?”
He shrugs silently, gaze unmoving. What an odd fellow. He’s showing absolutely no interest in socializing, which you don’t entirely blame him for. Maybe he was dragged here beyond his own will. He’s opposite of Gojo, who oozes charisma from every crevice. You can’t expect him to match that type of chaotic energy.
Gojo fetches the waiter, ordering sake and his virgin drink. Him and Gina chat amongst themselves, no doubt flirting excessively. You sit next to Nanami in silence, slurping on whatever liquid remains in your glass, basically water from the melting ice. You want to pull your phone out to have something to distract you, but your neighbor continues to stare at the table, frozen in place, not speaking. Hands tucked neatly in front of him.
You attempt small talk once more, gradually losing hope that this will lead anywhere. “What do you do for work, Nanami?”
“I’m a salaryman.”
“Is Gojo a salaryman, too?”
“No.”
“How do you two know each other?”
“From high school.”
“Neat.” You glance around the room, wishing the alcohol would arrive sooner. His answers are curt, as if you’re pestering him. Even behind the steampunk glasses, you can tell he’s uncomfortable. He clearly doesn’t want to be here.
You tune out whatever Gina and Gojo are discussing, not wanting to eavesdrop on their privacy, remaining silent as you twiddle your thumbs beneath the table. The drinks arrive, which you’re ecstatic about. Gojo smiles as he sips on his mocktail. Gina does the honors and pours the cold sake into each small glass, passing it to you and Nanami. With a cheers, you each down your shots, refreshing and bitter down your throat.
“So, do you ladies have any single friends you can set Nanamin up with?” Gojo asks.
Beside you, Nanami tenses up. “Gojo, I don’t want –”
“Don’t worry, buddy! We’ll find you a nice girl! Nanamin here is so shy, poor guy needs a lot of help when it comes to the ladies – ”
“Gojo,” he warns, sterner this time, Gina unable to contain her giggling.
“He’s an attractive guy, right? If it weren’t for the stick up his ass, he’d for sure be a catch.” Gojo smirks, finishing the rest of his drink.
Gina elbows him, grinning. “Don’t be so mean to your friend. Not everyone has to be in a relationship. She’s never been in one and she’s totally fine.” She points at you, much to your dismay.
You’re reminded how loose Gina’s lips get whenever she indulges in alcohol. While it’s nothing to be ashamed about, you still feel heat rush into your cheeks from embarrassment, having a personal fact about yourself revealed so casually in front of two strangers. “I’ve never had time for a relationship,” you explain. “Been too busy with school.”
“Oh, don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being single! I’m just trying to help this poor guy out, he’s always complaining to me how lonely he is, but he never puts himself out there!”
The table rattles suddenly and Gojo yelps. “Ouch! Okay, okay, I’ll stop.” Nanami has his arms crossed tight over his chest, foot flat on the floor after kicking his friend in the shin.
Rubbing his leg, Gojo changes the subject, talking about his latest travels somewhere, to which Gina is absolutely enthralled by. You listen passively, swirling your fingers around the ring of the glass. It’s getting late and you should head back to your apartment soon, knowing your thesis is stuck in your laptop, waiting to be submitted. You don’t want to leave until Gina is done working her magic on her new friend, so you wait, not bothering to converse with the guy next to you. He seems equally as unenthused as you do, now tapping one of his feet impatiently.
Gojo eventually calls the waiter to pay the bill. After giving him your thanks, the four of you walk out of the bar together, ready to say your farewells. Or so you think. Once outside, Gojo and Gina look at you with guilt on their faces. You’ve known your friend long enough to predict where this is going.
“So, Gojo and I are actually going to hang out a bit longer.”
He wraps his arm around her shoulders, smirking. “Yeah, Nanami and I have a room at the hotel across the street. I want to give Gina an exclusive tour. We should be done in about an hour or so.”
Nanami makes a strangled noise in his throat, clearly distraught. He can’t formulate a sentence, so you do it instead. “What are you really trying to tell us?”
“Well,” Gina starts. “We thought that since the two of us are hanging out, then the two of you can hang out somewhere else. Just until we’re done. With the tour.”
You roll your eyes, annoyed by the euphemisms, more irritated by the fact that you’re being temporarily stranded out here with someone who wants nothing to do with you.
“Please keep my dear friend company. I promise, we won’t take too long. But definitely not too short either,” he adds under his breath, him and Gina giggling like naughty schoolchildren.
Nanami is still stunned, probably shocked that his friend would dump him like this. Before he can formulate a response, Gojo and Gina turn their backs, walking in the direction of the hotel. “Have fun! I know we will! We’ll call you when we’re done!” Gojo yells out, waving. Gina blows you a kiss before holding hands with him, leaving you two dumbfounded.
You stand beside Nanami in silence, unsure where to go from here. You’re familiar with this location, and you know there is plenty to do at this hour. But you have no clue what this guy likes. Does he like anything?
Clearing your throat, you say, “Well, I guess we have to kill time somewhere.”
He does the same, coughing into his forearm. “I suppose we have no choice.”
“There’s a nearby bakery that’s always open late. Do you want to check that out?”
Focused on his shoes, he shrugs. That’s a good enough answer for you.
You start heading down the familiar street, the shop being only two blocks away from the bar. The two of you walk in silence, Nanami trailing behind you, arms swinging slightly at his sides while you have your hands placed in your pockets. When you arrive to the bakery, you notice one of the workers you’re acquainted with, Susie, waving from the counter. You return her greeting with a warm smile.
Nanami seems intrigued, browsing through the assortment of baked goods. He reads each label carefully, head moving up, down, side to side, inspecting each pastry intently. “Their bread is amazing here,” you comment. “Perfect for sandwiches.”
He hums in response, leaning closer to the loaves of sourdough on display. This is the first you’ve seen him with a more relaxed expression on his face. Without the scowl, he actually seems friendly and approachable.
“The croissants are also really good. My favorites are chocolate and almond,” you suggest, pointing through the glass.
To your surprise, Nanami ends up buying the chocolate one, per your recommendation. Susie, always a cheery smile plastered on her face, rings him up. She eyes you playfully, brow raised, but doesn’t say anything. When it’s your turn, you order two hot coffees, a spur of the moment decision. You have no idea how long you’re going to be stranded out here, so a nice pick-me-up wouldn’t hurt. You explain, “Coffee and croissants go perfectly together, don’t you think?” He looks at you, confused, then shrugs, walking away to find an empty table.
Susie passes you the coffees, as well as creamer and a few packs of sugar. “Hot date tonight?” she asks quietly, a sly smirk on her face.
“No. We’re just stuck together for the next hour or so.”
“Well, I wouldn’t mind being stuck with a fine man like that,” she winks. “Have fun the rest of the night. Also, here.” She opens a small brown bag and sneaks an almond croissant inside. “On the house. You both should enjoy a tasty treat together.” She gathers all of your goods on a tray and slides it towards you, grinning.
Nanami is seated in a corner of the shop, hands placed neatly on the surface, one on top of the other. When you arrive, you set the tray down, sitting in the chair across from him. “Here’s some cream and sugar for your coffee, in case you want any.”
He nods in acknowledgment, removing the lid to pour in two creams, two sugars. You do the same. He remains silent, brows in a tight knit, concentrating on stirring his coffee. It’s almost endearing the way he’s so focused on the most mundane tasks. Grabbing a napkin, you take your croissant out, ready to bite into it. Before you do, you offer, “Would you like to try some of this?”
Behind his specs, you can see surprise in his expression. He clears his throat, muttering, “Sure.” He takes his chocolate croissant out and begins to tear it in half. “We can split both of them and share.”
You grin. “Good idea.” His lips twitch, as if he wants to smile.
You trade halves, first taking a bite into the chocolate before sipping on your coffee. You let out a satisfied, “Yum!”
This time, there’s no mistaking it; he does smile. “That’s a good sign,” he comments.
“I’ve had this plenty of times, but it’s always so good.”
He removes his glasses and folds them neatly into his breast pocket. You have a clear view of his eyes now, which are much kinder than you expect. He takes a bite, then smirks, wiping the corner of his mouth with a napkin.
“Well?”
“You’re right. This is definitely deserving of a yum.” The corner of his eyes crinkle. It feels like you’re finally getting through to him.
“See? I told you it’s good!” you say, moving to the almond croissant.
“If I knew you wanted one, I would have bought both of them for us.”
“Susie actually gave this to me on the house, so it all worked out.”
With a brow raised, he asks, “Do people usually give you delicious pastries for free?”
You laugh. “Ha, I wish. Just here. We’re friends.”
“That must be nice.” He nibbles on the rest of it, sips of coffee in between.
“Why are you talking to me all of a sudden?” Maybe it’s the sudden rush of caffeine surging through your body that makes you decide to be bold and ask him straight up.
He’s caught off guard by your bluntness, clearing his throat nervously. “I wasn’t really in the mood to be social earlier this evening.”
“But you are now?” You rest your elbow on the table, hand tucked under your chin, studying him.
He chuckles softly, wiping the other corner of his mouth with a new napkin. “I guess so. The croissants and coffee help.”
“So the way to your heart is through your stomach? Good to know,” you tease him, smirking.
“Is that something you’re interested in? Winning my heart?” He gives you a small grin as he meets your gaze.
There’s a flutter in your belly, a skip in your heartbeat. It’s obvious he’s an attractive man; you were focused so much on his off-putting demeanor, you didn’t really think about it until now. Cheeks warm, you respond, “I’m trying to get to know you. We’re stuck with each other for tonight, might as well be friends.”
He nods, agreeing. It’s one night. All you’re doing is killing time together while you wait for your friends to finish their little rendezvous. The chances of ever seeing each other again after this are unlikely. Might as well make the most out of it.
The two of your finish your pastries in a comfortable silence. Only half an hour passes, and still no word from either of your friends. Suddenly, you remember that on Friday nights, street food vendors set up shop down the block from your current location. “Nanami, do you like street food?”
He meets your eyes again, smiling. “Absolutely.”
~~~
Nanami was desperate for a drink tonight.
Him and Gojo are out of town, having completed a strenuous week of exorcising curses from several areas of this city. All he wanted was to consume alcohol, enough to get a good buzz going, then eat a late-night snack before heading to bed. He didn’t expect to find himself at a street food festival with a total stranger, having been rudely abandoned by Gojo. Though, he doesn’t mind his current situation. Anything involving food is something he always delights in. And the company isn’t so bad either. She’s actually quite nice.
Nanami doesn’t like opening up to people. Ever since he went back into Jujutsu Sorcery, he made a promise to himself to never date, not wanting to subject any potential spouses to the horrors of the world he lives in. He keeps himself closed off on purpose, especially to strangers. It’s easier this way. Sure, it comes off rude and cold. And maybe he does get a bit lonely at times. It’s for the best; that’s how he justifies it.
Yet, somehow, this woman is slipping through the cracks. He finds himself enjoying his time with her as they stroll through the street of food vendors, selling all types of delicacies: meat skewers, noodles, varieties of desserts. They even share a serving of Takoyaki because what kind of street food outing is it without a taste of that?
They casually exchange bits and pieces about each other: hobbies, interests, favorite foods, the standard. Nanami has to remain especially cryptic about his real profession, a complicated topic to explain to normal civilians. Besides that, their conversations feel natural. Effortless. There’s no need to be closed off, considering they’re doing this for the time-being, until their two friends finish whatever fling they’re partaking in at the hotel. Their time together will end soon, going back to being strangers, never seeing each other again. Maybe that’s why he’s loosened up; all of this will be over as soon as it began.
After having walked through the vendors once more, they rest at a table off to the side. Nanami finishes off the last piece before tossing the little tray into the trash can. He hasn’t checked his watch since they arrived, occupied with food, and chatting. It’s been about an hour and a half now, still no peep from either Gojo or Gina, though he isn’t anxiously waiting to hear from them. He tries thinking of something else they can do, besides sit here, and watch the clock.
Before he can start suggesting ideas, she beats him to it. “Nanami, do you like karaoke?”
Again, he smiles at her, similar to earlier at the bakery. Chest swelling with an odd, but pleasant sensation. “Absolutely.”
Minutes later, they’re in a small private room at a karaoke bar, ordering a round of cold sake before the singing starts. She volunteers to go first, choosing a well-known pop hit, not at all embarrassed to belt out any high notes. Her voice isn’t bad, enough to carry a tune and to make Nanami, who is as tone-deaf as they come, not feel ashamed about singing in front of her. Halfway through the song, the sake arrives, and he pours it into the two cups, waiting for her performance to be over before passing her the glass. They cheers, then throw it back. She hands him the mic, teasing, “I expect a breathtaking performance.”
“Prepare yourself for disappointment, then,” he smirks, entering the number on the remote. He picks another popular song, one that he always like to start off with whenever he’s doing karaoke with Gojo and Shoko. In fact, he can’t remember doing karaoke with anyone besides his close friends. This is definitely the first in a while; he doesn’t feel as shy as he thought he would. The strobe lights in the dim space create an atmosphere where Nanami isn’t embarrassed to put on a show. He removes his coat and loosens his tie, to which she whistles playfully at him, causing him to laugh. “Don’t encourage me.”
“Oh I absolutely will encourage you,” she responds, leaning forward for a better view. “I’m so ready for this.”
Maybe its the alcohol taking its effect, though it wasn’t much. Or maybe he’s genuinely having a good time. Whatever it is, as soon as the melody kicks, he swings his hips to the beat, barely bothering to read the lyrics on the screen because he already has them memorized. From behind, he hears her clapping to the rhythm, giggling and singing along quietly, hollering when he nails a particularly hard note.
The marathon continues, sake flowing into their mouths between songs until the bottle is empty and they’re both on their feet, dancing to the music. Mics in hand, they serenade each other, swaying to the upbeat tempo, smiles open wide with glee. Nanami tosses his tie to the couch, unbuttoning his shirt a quarter of the way down, sweat beading on his forehead, body hot from his buzz and merriment. Their playlist ranges from ballads, alternative rock, R&B, even a few classic Disney hits Nanami secretly likes to indulge in. At some point, Nanami offers his hand to twirl her, not letting go as he swings his arms with hers, grooving to the beat. Their fingers interlock, fitted to each other naturally. There’s no second guessing or doubts in his head that he wants to do this with her. It just feels right.
A worker comes in with a cold pitcher of water, informing them they have five more minutes left of their hour. Nanami is surprised how fast that hour flew. He swears they still had more time left. He can’t help feeling disappointed that it’s over; he still had more songs he wanted to sing before the night ended.
He notices her checking her phone, probably waiting for that text from Gina, hoping that whatever this is ends soon. There’s a tightness in Nanami’s throat, and not from all the singing. He hasn’t bothered to check his phone the entire time they were here, hoping not to see any type of message from Gojo. He realizes in this moment that he doesn’t want this night to end.
To his surprise, she sets her phone back down on the table, attention at the worker. “Can we book another hour?”
For the third time tonight, Nanami can’t contain his smile.
~~~
To say you’re surprised by this recent development is an understatement. You’re actually shocked that this is the same man you attempted small talk with just a hours earlier, only to be treated with the cold shoulder. Now, he’s spinning you around this small room, disco lights twinkling in each other’s eyes, laughing, carefree and happy. It’s contagious, and you have no choice but to join in on the fun.
It’s not until there’s five minutes left of your reservation that you remember the reason you’re here in the first place. Checking your phone for any updates from Gina, you almost audibly breathe a sigh of relief, seeing no new messages. On a whim, you request another hour, not wanting this to end yet. You wonder if he feels the same way.
Halfway through your second hour, the two of you finally take a break, letting the preloaded list of songs you selected play in the background. You sit beside each other, closer than you’ve been all night, thighs touching, body heat radiating. From your peripheral, you observe him, watching his throat bob with each gulp of ice-cold water he takes, emptying the remnants into his mouth. Before he catches you, you look away, sipping on your own drink, suddenly nervous to be so near him, despite dancing with him the past hour and a half.
He chuckles softly. “This was really fun.”
You turn to face him. “It was. You’re quite the performer.”
“I could say the same about you.” He stretches his arm behind you, setting it on the couch. The rolled-up sleeves of his polo graze your neck, making you more flustered. You remind yourself that this is totally normal, not a flirtatious response or anything. Just a guy casually resting his arm behind you, no big deal.
“I feel like I’m going to lose my voice. But it was worth it,” he mentions.
You face him again, beaming brightly. There’s an expression on his face you haven’t seen all night, as if he’s getting a proper look at you, studying you like he hasn’t seen you clearly until now.
“Totally worth it,” you reply. Before you know it, you blurt out, “I don’t want this to end yet.”
At this, he blinks a few times, startled by your statement. “Really?”
You giggle, leaning closer to nudge his arm. “Yeah. Really.”
In an instant, your lips meet, mouths still cool from the ice water. He kisses you gently, both hesitant and sure of himself. He breaks away to ask, “Is this okay?”
You nod, sliding your hands to his nape to close the distance again. His arm slips behind your waist, hand gripped loosely on your hip, pulling you in, kisses getting sloppier. Tongues pushing past lips to swirl around each other.
You can blame this hasty decision on the alcohol, but that wouldn’t be accurate. You’re tipsy at best, and you would bet money that he’s in the same state as you. This isn’t fueled by sake or by the sappy love song playing in the background. This is pure, unadulterated passion, building up the moment you shared those croissants together in that bakery.
You giggle into his mouth as you swing your leg over his lap to straddle him. He has both hands on your waist now, peering at you with a naughty expression. “What can you possibly be giggling about right now?”
“I was just thinking about how I was right earlier. The way to your heart is through your stomach. Admit it; you fell for me as soon as I split my croissant with you.”
He pulls you in closer, nuzzling his nose against yours. “Okay, I admit it. You won my heart.”
His grip is tight on you, guiding your hips back and forth on his lap, his lips scattering delicate kisses along your neck, your hands messing up his hair as you run your fingers through it. There’s not enough time to process that this is actually happening. All you want is to feel him on every inch of your skin. His palms glide underneath your blouse, reaching for your bra, squeezing at your breasts. With his mouth now hot on your ear, he whispers, “I want you.”
You’re not thinking properly when you grab the hem of your shirt to hoist it off your body. Before you strip, there’s loud knocking on the door, startling the both of you.
“We know what you’re doing in there!” a voice yells from the other side. “Cut it out before we call the police!”
Immediately, you remove yourself from him, unsuccessfully ignoring the obvious bulge in his pants. He’s reluctant to take his hands of you, giving your tits another loving fondle before relenting, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. Quickly gathering your belongings, you head towards the door, ready to do the walk of shame. Before you turn the handle, Nanami spins you around, kissing you once more. You melt into his mouth, fists bunching his dress shirt, his heart pounding through his chest. If it weren’t for the threat of the cops being called, you’re certain the two of you would go at it right here in this karaoke room.
Another angry rap on the door snaps you both back to reality. You slowly exit the room, staring at the tile floor, avoiding eye contact with the disgruntled worker, crossing their arms at you. You pay for the room, then walk outside into the brisk night air. Nanami holds your hand, fingers entwined seamlessly, a perfect fit.
Despite having spent the last few hours with him, it feels like the beginning of the night. You lean in to kiss him once more, craving his mouth on yours. He places his coat over your shoulders, surrounding you in a snug embrace, resting his chin on the top of your head. You stay like this for what seems like forever until it’s not enough, your phone vibrating in your purse, his ringing in his pocket. Gina’s name is displayed on your screen, and Gojo’s on his. That’s your cue; the final scene of the night.
The two of you take your time walking back towards where your little adventure first started, holding hands like a couple familiar with each other. At the end of the day, you’re still strangers, one night not enough to establish a relationship. You’re certain neither of you wants this to end, not with the way he touches you, the way he gazes at you. There’s no doubt something’s there. The both of you are cowards, too afraid to admit these intense feelings to someone you hardly know. It’s easier to enjoy it in the moment, letting it fizzle out as midnight approaches, leaving it behind as a fond memory.
That’s the problem, though. In the short amount of time you’ve spent with him, you’re already sure that you want to make more memories with him.
In the distance, you spot Gina and Gojo, standing outside the bar, chatting as they await your return. You’re about to call out to them, but Nanami tugs you into the nearest alley, your cheeks between his palms, kissing you deeply. His thumb grazes your skin tenderly, sending a shiver down your spine. He pulls off, breathing staggered, forehead pressed against yours.
You don’t want to say goodbye; this is what it is, right? Back to the real world. You have a thesis due in less than forty-eight hours, one that you forgot about until now, and Nanami is from out of town, soon to be back to his own life, which doesn’t include you. That’s just the way it is.
Without a word, you shrug his coat off your shoulders, handing it to him with a gentle smile. He stares at you, wary, accepting it anyways in his hands, hanging it on his forearm neatly. He reaches for your hand, leading you back to the pathway under the streetlights, letting go as soon as you approach your friends.
Seeing you, Gojo yells out, “Hey!”
Gina waves, hair slightly disheveled, a satisfied grin on her face. Gojo asks, “So, did you two have fun tonight? I know we did.” Gina snorts, kicking him lightly at his ankle.
Nanami clears his throat. “Yes. We had fun.”
Surprised, Gojo replies, “Really? Nanamin actually hadfun? I’m in awe!”
Gina looks at you. “Did you have fun?”
“Yes. I had a lot of fun,” you answer. You turn to face Nanami, giving him one last smile. He returns it, nodding slightly. This really is the end of it.
Your friend links arms with you, announcing, “Well, we should head home now! This girl still has a thesis to finish.” With that, Gina steers you in the direction of train station, waving farewell to the two men.
~~~
Nanami begrudgingly follows Gojo back to the hotel room. He gives his friend an abridged version of tonight’s festivities, to which Gojo seems thrilled about on his behalf. “You had almost as exciting of a night as I did! Almost. That Gina is a real firecracker.”
He sits at the end of his bed, only now realizing they didn’t even exchange contact info. In the heat of the moment, it didn’t cross his mind, too focused on her soft lips and gentle touch. He leans forward, burying his face in his palms, groaning. “I forgot to ask for her number.”
Gojo chuckles, patting his shoulder. “How can you forget that?”
“Everything happened so fast. We ran out of time.”
The realization of it hits him hard. This can’t be it; there’s no way it can be. He won’t accept that this is the end of them, not after what happened. He’ll do whatever it takes to see her again. Fuck the vow he made to not date; whatever this is, it’s worth it.
“I don’t know what to do,” Nanami muffles through his hands, defeated.
Gojo sits beside him, massaging his shoulders, something Nanami usually hates, too distressed to shove him away. “Well, my dear friend, lucky for you, I have Gina’s number.”
At this, Nanami turns to his friend, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
With a cocky smirk, Gojo says, “Let’s go get your girl.”
Ophelia's Son: Abigail
Summary: Abigail Adams turns up at the Harrington house to try and get Steve to help her schemes. Nobody agrees with her.
Following on from these Ophelia's Son Smoking and What Will Grow
Mostly inspired by the Feud in the Addams Family episode for those who know the 60's series.
/\
Since meeting the Addams’s and especially since he first had the flower crown take root, Steve had come to expect a few new reactions when customers entered Family Video. None of those helped when Nancy came storming in, not even reacting to him as she seized the phone, “Hello, Welcome to Family – Hey! Nancy, you can’t just use the phone.” He switched to complaining mid greeting.
As he impatiently watched, she dialled a number that looked like it was noted in his handwriting and held a finger up to emphasise she wanted him to wait while she called rather than complain about it immediately.
“Hello Mr Addams, I’m Nancy, a friend of Steve’s.” She greeted cheerfully and he snorted at the formality. He was sure the first reply would be something about calling him Gomez but resolved to carry on listening to why-ever his uncle had been called.
“Yes, he’s well… Yes, I’ll tell him, but I am calling for a reason sir… Yes sir, an Abigail Adams turned up at his house this morning. I was dropping something off and… Okay… I’ll do what I can… I’ll let Steve know to expect her. Thank you.” Nancy stared at the phone for a moment, a little surprised the call had finished so quickly though Steve wasn’t. While Morticia took her time to speak and think through her words, Gomez often spoke quickly and acted impulsively.
He cleared his throat after a moment of her staring though, still annoyed that Nancy had come all the way to Family Video to make a call she clearly could have done at his house. All the party knew where his spare key was kept after all.
“Sorry.” She apologised a little sheepishly, “That Abigail woman wasn’t leaving so I didn’t want to unlock the door after I’d locked it. I think she’s still parked outside your house, set on waiting until you’re home.”
“Okay, that explains why you called from here, but not why you’d brought the number with you or why you wanted to call them before telling me this.” Steve stated, unimpressed with her actions still. “Also who should I be expecting other than Abigail?”
Nancy glanced back at the phone. “Mama? Granmama? I think for you it’d be the latter, apparently she wants to fight Abigail over something, or they all dislike her, maybe. And I wanted to call them because Abigail mentioned how you or she should be head of the Addams family rather than Gomez. I didn’t mention that to him, did I?”
“Nope, but if she’s tried taking over before that might explain them disliking her.” He offered. “Maybe you could head to the library to see if anything about her has reached Hawkins newspapers.”
Nancy smiled, nodding and clearly happy to have something to research over the encounter that must have been more than stated given how unsettled she still seemed.
/\
He knew Abigail was someone disliked by his Aunt and Uncle and knew that she was probably still outside his house, but Steve was not expecting to have “Mr Harrington!” called out as soon as he got out of his car, nor the dark haired lady in a dress suit and kitten heels hurrying over to him while he straightened up.
“Steve, if I may. I so wanted to meet you. I’m your relative, Abigail Adams. Richard suggested I visit and I’m sure you’re just as charming as your father is.” The words were genially said but immediately soured him on her. Anyone his father liked was someone to be wary of, but also likely to be mentioned and bring anger if he scorned her.
Steve decided to worry over his fathers reaction later and headed towards the house, “Congratulations Abigail, you’ve met me.” He sarcastically called. “Leave now and you can keep that impression. Stay and I’ll have a fair few families helping you leave soon enough.”
“What?” She asked, shocked but so far keeping pace and intent on inviting herself in.
Steve smiled coldly, unlocking and stepping through the door fully enough to block her entry as he turned around. “Delighted. Goodbye.” He slammed the door, biting back an annoyed groan as locked it and heard knocking immediately start up.
He wondered what would happen in an hour when everyone started arriving for Hellfire since she was likely to still be there it seemed.
/\
“Hey, Harrington?” Gareth popped his head into the kitchen uncertainly.
Steve smiled warmly, carrying on setting out the snacks for the evening, “Yup, what’s up?”
“A couple ladies just invited themselves in and seem like they’re having the most polite fight ever.” Gareth glanced back over his shoulder as Eddie’s voice could be heard cheerfully greeting Granmama.
For a moment Steve frowned, “Was one of them the woman in a dress suit who’s been sat in her car all evening?”
“Yes. I know you said we shouldn’t let her in, but-”
“Don’t worry about it,” He interrupted the apology he could hear coming. “Perhaps if I let her say whatever it is she wants I’ll get her to actually leave.”
For all he hadn’t expected that to actually work, Abigail did leave to find a hotel after making her case for the head of the Addams family to him, often raising her voice as Granmama corrected, challenged or just interrupted her. He was sure that wasn’t the end of it though, especially when Nancy mentioned while picking Mike and Will up that this would be the fourth attempt Abigail had made to take control of the Addams fortune.
/\
Robin had come over to hang out and Dustin had refused to go home, even with Eddie giving everyone lifts. Both of them claimed they wanted to meet an actual Addams, not a Frump like Steve and his mother and had been getting along with Granmama for most of it.
Steve had been telling them about his first encounter with Abigail which had led to Robin and him joking over Starcourt and the Russian code, laughing between themselves since Dustin rarely found it funny given what happened next.
“Ah, young love.” Granmama smiled at the sight of the pair.
Dustin nodded, grinning broadly, “I know right! I keep telling them-”
“We’re not dating.” Steve and Robin cut off his insistence that that should date, matching glares on their faces as they stopped giggling together.
Granmama looked indignant at the words. “Only you reacted happily to her Russian. It’s only reasonable.”
“We went through stuff together around Russians. It’s not a romance language.” Steve explained, brow furrowed and shaking his head at how little sense she made.
“I’ll whip up some love dust. That’ll sort you.” Granmama nodded.
“No!” Both snapped, Steve adding on, “In fact you’re banned from the kitchen while you’re here. I’ll do the cooking as normal, thank you.”
Granmama nodded, “Well that’s just good manners, but I’ll still get some. It’ll do you good if the Russian reaction says anything. Just like the French one.”
Robin and Steve shared a look. “We’re not going to ask right now, and we’re never going to date. No need for any dust love or otherwise to fail at that.” Robin spoke for them this time. “It’s Platonic with a capital P.”
“And they’ll always say that.” Nancy agreed, knocking on the door frame. “That Abigail is a piece of work from everything I’ve read. Actually, before we all met Ophelia, that’s how I’d imagined her.”
“Can’t blame you there but it’s my father who acts like her.” Steve shrugged. “I think Will offered to have El try spying to figure out a way to get her to back off too.”
Nancy smiled, letting out a heavy breath. “Good. I really don’t like what I found.”
“I said Fester should’ve come with me. He might not be one for travel but he will shoot her in the back quick as you like. Might even hit her.” Granmama cheerfully suggested. “I’ve got my axe but that’s messy and I know Ophelia will plant daisies in our garden if I upset this house.”
“Hm, I could do that, but let’s see what secrets we can get to silence her first.” Nancy nodded, as if the suggestion was reasonable when they weren’t facing the Upside Down.
Steve held his hands up, looking commandingly between the two, “No. We do not condone murder outside of Hawkins events here. What would the kids start doing if we did?”
“Torture?” Granmama offered, as if that was a better suggestion.
He huffed, “Yes, they probably would start doing that too. So we won’t. See what you and El find out. Then blackmail her gone.”
/\
Apparently nothing more needed doing for Abigail to leave. She did stop by before going, asking Steve to call off the cousins or ghosts.
He played innocent and wondered if there were invisible Addams cousins or if El had decided to go further than just spying and instead moved things around to make Abigail think she was getting haunted. Either way she seemed to have given up on taking over the Addams family once more and that hopefully meant she’d leave him alone too.
“Morticia and Gomez will be visiting with the kids when school holidays start, but they’ll be happy to hear about you before then.” Granmama brightly said as a car pulled up outside. “And I’ll make sure they have love dust with them then.”
“You really don’t have to.” Steve gave a false smile. “I’ve got a partner already.”
He really hoped that meeting more of the Addams family wouldn’t get more pressures on him to date Robin, even if he was curious why reacting to a language being spoken would equate to love.
Honey, All I See Is You
Part Four
Tumblr media
Jake x Reader (f)
Warnings: 18+ MINORS DO NOT INTERACT!
Find All Parts Here
It had been about a week since Jake had brought you the coffee and croissant. In that time, you’d read and finished two more books of the Forevermore series and met for lunch a few times. True to your word, you gave your thoughts and feelings toward the books to Jake either through texts or over lunch. The two of you would discuss them, agreeing on most things but passionately disagreed on others.
“What do you mean Delimira didn’t deserve the crown? She fought just as hard as any of the men!” You practically shout.
“I mean sure, she fought for it, but does that inherently mean she deserves it? For example, if I just reach over and take one of your fries–” He says doing exactly that. You try and swat his hand away but he still takes one. “Since I ‘fought’ you for it and won, does that mean I deserve it?” He asks, eyebrow raised and a smirk on his face as he pops the fry into his mouth.
Narrowing your eyes, you answer, “No. But what exactly makes her undeserving? Is it the fact that Uthril had a claim to the throne by birth? Or is it something else?”
“No, I don’t think he deserved it just because he was born with a claim to it. I think Delimira purely wanted the throne for revenge. Sure, she says she wants to change the laws and society, but does she really? What was the first thing she did when she was crowned?” He questions.
“She called for a cease fire.” You answer.
“Yes, and–” He says, gesturing for you to continue. Seeing you shake your head in confusion, he says, “She swore the same blood oath has her predecessors. One she vowed never to take because it went against one of her core beliefs.”
“Yes, but she did it under duress.” You say.
Nodding along Jake says, “Yes, she did. But is that any excuse? Sure she saved the life of one. But damned many in return. Is the collateral damage worth it?”
Heart sinking at the realization, you shake your head. “No it’s not.”
Waving his hand, he says, “There you go. You and I both know Uthril would have chosen to lose the one versus the many. He proved that with the death of his brother.”
“I hate that you’re right.” You say flopping back against your chair.
“Awe c’mon, don’t take it so hard. Every dog has his day eventually.” He teases.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” You say rolling your eyes trying to hide a smile.
Chuckling, Jake places his arms on the table and leans toward you. “So when are you starting volume four? I think it’ll be your favorite.”
“Probably in a couple days.” You say with a sigh. “I started my mid-year inventory count this morning and I’ll be working on that for the time being.”
“Does that normally take a while?” He asks.
“Sometimes. It depends on how much is in the back that’s been forgotten or if anyone has hidden away books to come back for later and then never did. Last year it only took one day, but I had help. This year it’s just me.” You say with a shrug.
“Well, I can help if you want.” He suggests.
“Really?” You question.
“Yeah, I mean I don’t have any plans. Plus it’ll help you get it done faster.” He replies with a shrug.
A smile brightens your face as you say, “Thank you. I’ll gladly take you up on it.”
He smiles softly back at you and asks, “What time do you want me to come by?”
“Anytime is fine.” You say. “Just text me when you’re on your way.”
Nodding, he says, “Alright. I’ll come once I finish my shift.”
“Sounds good! Well speaking of, I really should get back. I put up a ‘Be back in 30’ sign and it’s been just about that.” You say, standing and gathering your things.
Jake stands too. “Here I’ll clean that up, see you tonight.”
“Oh okay, thanks. I’ll see you later.” You say with a wave.
Once back at the store, you continue working on inventory in between customers. Around 5pm, you turn off the overhead lights and flip the sign to ‘closed’ before locking the door. Turning back to the rows of shelves, you take in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Running your hands through your hair, you roll your neck and rub your shoulders before getting back to it. Walking back over to where you’d stopped the count in the horror/thriller section, you sink down to your knees and restart the count.
“Five ‘From Below’ by Darcy Coates on shelf.” You mumble to yourself as you write it down on the notepad sitting beside you.
“Ding”
Looking over, you see your phone light up. Picking it up, you notice the time is now 7pm and you have a new message from Jake.
“Heading your way. Bringing curry and garlic naan. Thought you might be hungry.” He says.
Smiling, you stand and start making your way to the front door. Reaching the door, you see Jake walking down the sidewalk with a to go bag in one hand and a drink carrier in the other. Unlocking the door, you step out.
“Hey! Need help carrying that in?” You call, wrapping your arms around yourself to fend off the chill in the air.
“Nah, I’ve got it. Go back inside! It’s too cold out here!” He calls back.
Rubbing your arms you nod your head and step back inside.
“Hey, where do you want me to put this?” Jake asks as he steps inside a few moments later.
“Over on the counter would be great. I’ll go in the back and grab the extra stool.” You say as you turn to go get it.
“Just tell me where it is and I’ll grab it.” Jake says.
“It would be easier for me to just go grab it, it’s hidden behind a bunch of boxes. But I appreciate the offer!” You say continuing toward the back.
Walking straight to where the stool is, you grab it and carry it out to the counter. Coming through the doorway, you see Jake has shed his jacket and is pulling out container after container of food and sitting it on the counter.
“I thought you said you just got curry and naan bread!” You say, eyes wide as you look at the spread in front of you.
Shrugging as he pulls out the plastic cutlery and napkins, he says, “I did. And a few other things. I wasn’t sure what you liked. So I got a little bit of everything.”
“You didn’t have to do that! But thank you! What all did you get?” You ask, starting to open the different containers.
“Curry and naan, like I said, and samosa, jasmine rice, basmati rice, mango chutney and… I don’t really remember. I asked them to just give me their best menu items. Oh, and uh, coffee.” He says with a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck.
A smile slowly spreads across your face. Tucking your hair behind your ear, you say, “That all sounds amazing. I think we’re going to need some extra plates though.”
Pulling them from the bag, Jake holds them up in the air and says with a laugh, “Already got ‘em.”
As the two of you finish eating, you catch him up to speed on how far you’d gotten and how long you think it’d take for the two of you to finish.
“That doesn’t sound too bad.” Jake says, wiping his mouth with a napkin.
Covering your mouth as you chew, you nod and say, “Nah. It might even get done quicker if we don’t find any hidden treasures.”
Standing, he asks, “Where do you want me to start?”
“Mmm, how about you start on the YA section. And once you get done with that, you can move on to the children's section.” You say as you hand him an extra notepad and pencil.
“Alright. I’ll let you know when I’m done there.”
You nod your head in agreement as you pack the leftovers up before putting them in the fridge in the little kitchenette in the back.
The two of you work to the sound of a playlist you’d found on Spotify earlier on in the day. You hum along to some of the songs as you count and write each book down. When you’re about halfway through the romance section, the back of your neck tingles and you feel someone behind you. Turning, Jake is leaning against one of the bookshelves watching you with a grin on his face.
“Hey, did you get done with the kids’ section?” You ask.
“Yep. Where do you need me next boss?” He asks, straightening and walking closer.
“Uh– It’d be great if you could start on fantasy. That section always takes me the longest.” You say.
“You got it.” He replies.
Turning back around you start to count again. Placing his hand on the small of your back, Jake slides around you. Shivers run down your back at the contact.
“Excuse me.” He whispers.
You nod your head in answer. Turning your head slightly, you watch him walk over to the fantasy section and begin counting books. Taking a deep breath, you try to calm your racing heart before clearing your throat and continuing with working on inventory.
A while later, you finish up with romance and stand. Stretching, you yawn and rub your forehead with the back of your hand. Walking over to where Jake is, you tap his shoulder to get his attention.
Holding up a finger, he finishes what he was working on before turning to you. “Yeah?” He asks.
“Where are you at on these?” You ask before noticing he’s staring at you with amusement in his eyes. “What are you looking at?” You ask, reaching up to touch your face.
With a chuckle, he says, “You’ve got a pen mark. Here let me–” He reaches out and touches your cheek, rubbing the mark away.
Slowly, his thumb stops moving and he’s just holding your face. His eyes flick to your lips, his own parting slightly. Through half-lidded eyes, he brings his gaze back to yours. You swallow thickly as your heart races in your chest.
“Jake–” you whisper, not sure what you’re wanting to say next.
“What is it, beautiful?” He asks, stepping closer, hand slowly moving from your face and down to the base of your neck.
“I–” You begin.
“Yes?” He encourages, leaning in.
Your eyes feel heavy and you draw in a shaky breath.
His mouth draws closer. His lips, ghost against yours. “Is this okay?” He asks, voice raspy.
You shake your head yes.
“I need to hear you say it.” He says, dropping his notepad and bringing his other hand to your waist, squeezing it in encouragement.
“Yes.” You breathe out.
“Thank god.” He rushes out before his lips crash into yours.
His lips are soft and he tastes of cigarettes and curry. The kiss starts gentle yet eager. His lips molding into yours. He cups your face and strokes your jaw line down the side of your neck with his thumb. It doesn’t take long for the kiss to turn needy. As it does, he takes your chin tilting it up and licks your bottom lip, asking for entrance.
You grant it with no hesitation and your tongue meets his and he groans. One hand slides down to your waist, grip tightening as he backs you against one of the bookshelves. Your back collides against it and you let out a gasp from the impact. Wrapping your arms around his neck, you pull him closer needing more of him. He presses into you, hands roaming your sides and his knee parting your thighs. You moan at the pressure his thigh provides. Your hands slide down his chest and fist his shirt.
“Jake–” You whine. “Please–”
He kisses and nips at the spot just below your earlobe, sending heat rushing to your core. “What beautiful? Do you need something more? Something more right here?” He asks, cupping your sex.
You let out a moan and nod frantically.
“Uh-uh. Use your words.” He rumbles.
“Y-yes. Please!” You whine, head falling back against the shelf.
He smirks and says, “Good girl.”
His hand slips into your jeans and he strokes you through the cotton of your panties, earning a flood of wetness.
“Already so wet for me, can feel it soaking through.” He rasps. He slides them to the side and rubs circles into your clit earning another moan from you. “You’re so wet I could probably use two fingers already.” He says, thumb rubbing your clit and two fingers teasing your entrance.
Your thighs squeeze together around his hand at the sensation. Desperate to feel more of him, your hand slides down and cups his length through his pants. Jake moans and drops his head against yours.
“Wanna make you feel good too.” You say, breathless.
Jake nods his head as he continues his ministrations. With that, you hurriedly fumble with his belt. After finally getting it unbuckled, you unbutton his pants, tearing down the zipper. Your hand reaches into his boxers and fingers wrap around his cock. He moans at the touch as he pushes two fingers inside of you.
“Oh fuck!” the two of you let out.
You stroke him as he pumps into you, matching each other's pace. His head falls to your shoulder, and he moans as he kisses the base of your next. Your free hand runs through his hair and gently tugs. It doesn’t take long for you to feel the coil of pressure in your lower stomach.
“Fuck! Jake! I’m–” You rush out.
“I know, baby. I know. Give it to me.” He says pumping into you faster, fingers curling into that sweet spot over and over.
Your orgasm rips through you as his fingers fuck you and his thumb fervently rubs your sensitive nub. Your eyes roll into the back of your head and your thighs squeeze his hand so tightly, it’s almost painful. You grip his shoulder and tug at his hair as he works you through it. When you finally come down, your breathless, chest heaving.
Jake slowly removes his hand as he kisses you gently. You reach out to stroke him, to give as much pleasure as you were given, but he shakes his head.
“No, beautiful. Don’t worry about me.” He says adjusting himself and fastening his pants.
“But–” You start, confused.
Jake presses his lips to yours and says, “Next time.”
Tom Riddle~Tear you apart
Tumblr media
!!SMUT!!
"i wanna fucking tear you apart"~Tear you apart,She wants revenge
this is part of a series i have started called slytherin one shots inspired by songs on tiktok :) also my tom riddle one shots will mainly be set in his normal era not as mattheo's brother.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Tom Marvolo Riddle, also know as 'my lord' to his group of followers,had recently become infatuated with a girl. He was bewildered when he realised he felt something for this girl but if anyone knew then it would be the end of his intimidating persona,or so he thought. Everyone knew Tom was planning something, something monumental he couldn't ruin his plans now. He couldn't have people thinking he was weak because of some girl.
He thought that this girl, y/n, was fascinating though, she did not throw herself at him like other girls, he liked that, it was almost a challenge for him to earn her attention. Everyone knew Tom was planning something, something monumental. This little 'crush' was driving him mad. He had to do something.
Y/n knew of Tom she had heard the whisper's of the girls who had practically been throwing them selves at him. She thought he was good-looking but she would never admit that to anyone.
✧.*✧.*
One day, Y/n was in the library studying for the defence against the dark arts test tomorrow. She was quickly interrupted by a tall figure standing right in front of her. She lifted her gaze up towards the mystery man's face. Tom, of course it was he has been lurking around every corner, hallway, room that she's been in. He had been discreet,or so he thought. Every time she saw him, felt him looking at her across the room. "Do you need something?" she asked. "I simply just wanted to talk to you." "About what, Tom, you have never needed to talk to me before." "Just a simple question." She hummed at this signalling for him to continue. "Would you accompany me to hogsmeade this weekend?" She was taken back by his question, is this why he had been stalking her? He wanted to ask her out? Why her, he had so many other girls to ask. She thought about it until she remembered he was still standing there, "Um, sure Tom." "I'll meet you outside of the Slytherin common room on Saturday then." "Okay."
What the fuck just happened she thought, she's going on a date with the Tom Riddle, or at least that's what it sounded like.
✧.*✧.*
It was Saturday, Y/n had been getting ready for the last two hours, a lot of effort for a girl who doesn't fancy Tom.
She finally had finished getting ready, said her goodbyes to her dorm mate and made her way to the common room.
Tom was astound by Y/n walking into the common room, he thought he was going to explode with thoughts of bending her over one of the tables right there and then. He was broken out of his thoughts by her voice."Hey" "Hello, you look rather divine."
"Thank you, you look also look rather ravishing."
He hummed in agreement, possibly she could not tell what he was thinking, he was very hard to read.
After they made it to the three broom sticks, they got immersed into conversation, who knows what about.
Then Tom stopped y/n mid sentence whispering in her ear "I wanna fucking tear you apart.". Y/n was taken aback by this as what they had been taking about had not been like this. She had also never had a boy talk to her like this before. She looked at him, eyes wide, mouth slightly ajar, before she said "What!?" "You heard me."
✧.*✧.*
It was all a blur until she suddenly she realised she was back at hogwarts walking with Tom to his dorm.
As soon as they got to his dorm y/n was pinned against the wall. He looked down at her and said "Are you going to be a good girl for me." She nodded in response. "Use your words,y/n." "Y-y-yes,sir-r" She stuttered slightly nervous for what was about to happen but also extremely turned on.
He ran his large veiny hands, that y/n didn't seem to notice before somehow, down her sides down to her thighs. At the point she was soaking through her panties. Tom noticed her rubbing her thighs together trying desperately to form some friction where she needed it the most.
"I haven't even done anything yet and your acting like a needy little slut." she whined in response, as he kept sliding his hands closer and closer towards where she needed him to touch her. She just wanted him to do something,anything.
"Strip" he ordered. She hurried to obey him. Standing there now naked in front of a boy she thought she would never even talk to.
In seconds he stripped down from his trousers and standing in his boxers a large bulge very prominent. She looked, almost regretting doing so as she stating to thing 'he's way to big'.
He leans in and starts to kiss down her neck,she moans.
He caressed her body making chills erupt from her skin, he started biting on her neck making a surprised yelp come out of her mouth.
He looked up at her "Are you okay?".She nodded trying to suppress a whimper. "Do i have to remind you again,y/n,use your words." "Y-y-yes."She whimpered. "Please,carry on." She almost started begging she was so desperate to be destroyed by him.
"If you say so." He got back to biting at her neck as her whimpers filled the room.
"P-p-please Tom." she moaned out. "Please what,what do you want me to do."
"Please just fuck me,wreck me."
Instantly his boxer joined the pile of clothes on the floor.
Her eyes widened once again, looking at his length.
He slowly pushed his self against her dripping folds, as a loud moan erupted from her.
He slowly inched himself inside her, making her let out little noises that had him groaning. Once he was fully settled inside her, she began to move her hips trying to get the friction her body was telling her  it needed.
He noticed this and started to move slowly at first then getting more and more rough with each thrust. Her loud moans started to fill the room along with his groans.
His left hand slowly made it down, his thumb started circling her clit making her gasp. Before she knew it he was pounding into her, hard and fast. It felt so good but at the same time she didn't know what to do with the sudden pleasure.
Her hands try to find stability, your eyes rolling back as she gasps.
"UGH"she cried hands grabbing onto his back, nails scratching leaving small marks on his back.
All she could think about in the moment is how good he was making her feel,
She began to get closer and closer, legs tired, voice sore, and mouth agape.
She started to feel a knot in her stomach.She was almost there.
"I'm gonna cum." She screamed out.
"So am i" He groaned.
All at once the knot in her stomach exploded into a feeling she had never felt before, as she came he did to. Their moans filled the room.
✧.*✧.*
They continued to go to hogsmeade and do the same routine every weekend.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
didn't really know how to end this and also this is my first time i've ever wrote smut before hope you liked it😚
Ghost Files Au
@asbealthgn it really works for them 👀
Part 2
“Robin is the camera on?” Steve asks. His eyes were looking right above the camera on the screen. Wearing a bright yellow sweater, he’s the first thing anyone would look at before their eyes would shift over to another male, Eddie. Who was sitting right next to him, silently rolling a twenty sided die. His curls were hiding his face from the angle that the camera had him at. This was not their first session together, and he was fully aware that there was no reason trying to act polite and proper on camera. Already, within the first two episodes of the show it was chaos. It wasn’t what the network had expected but the fans seemed to enjoy it so shockingly they weren’t dropped.
He had already learned that it took a few minutes for the set up to be finished. This wasn’t their first episode of this show so he was at ease. Not to worried about fucking up the garbage fire they have created or getting it canceled. He faintly hears Robin respond to Steve letting him know they were on. The small interaction would be edited out before release of course.
“Hi, I'm Steve and this is Eddie. Today we will be going over the mysterious anamly known as Vecna-” he's mid introduction when one of the dice Eddie is rolling falls off the table. The metal head pauses, awkwardly stares at the camera before he looks away purposely moving and bending his body in a way that seemed impossible as he looks down to look at what the number said.
“Oh look at that Steve, I just rolled a 5 which means Ghosts aren't real!”
“You dick.”
The video is then cut to the next shot, where both men are standing in the middle of a house. Eddie has purposely put sunglasses on and his hair is pulled up, while Steve wears another comfortable sweater. The camera is just being clicked on when the two are bickering a bit.
“Eddie you can't be dressed up like a guy from men in black.” Steves hands are on his hips as he scolds the other. Trying to get the other to pull his sun glasses off, he was fully aware that the other could barely see. Hell steve could barely see anything right now and he had his glasses on. That and the suit the other was wearing was currently his, which he had somehow stolen.
“Yes I can, and I will. I will walk around like this and you can’t stop me.” Eddie shakes his head his curls bouncing around him as he does.
“Oh, so if you are a agent from men in black you admit ghosts are real!” Steve points out. Looking at the other like he had finally won.
“Nope, ghosts are still very much not real. The men in black unit is just another useless government funded group. Just like the police department.” Eddie says with a straight face.
“Eddie! You can’t say that!” Steve scolds slapping the others arm.
“I’m not Eddie anymore, I’m now Agent D.” Eddie says with a straight face. His hair was raised in a messy bun as he speaks. Looking more professional and serious then what he actually was. Which was only making the situation more hilarious as you could faintly hear someone’s giggles behind the camera.
“Dude, your name doesn’t even start with a D, what does the D even stand for!?”
“Deez Nuts.”
Lowkey thinking about making this a series 👀
#1 Wacky Wednesday
“It’s a refurbished student housing,” you explain as they trail after you like ducks in a row. Even if they don’t understand what you’re saying, they seem to be clinging to every word. Wherever you look there’s always at least one pair of doe eyes staring expectantly back at you a.k.a. what do you do when you open your doors and find a certain retired boyband for some reason wants to move in
You stand completely still by the open door, saying nothing, thinking nothing, just taking in the sight that makes you wonder whether or not you somehow had unwittingly consumed less than legal substances. Surely it must be a lot for if this was a hallucination it was crystal clear. Strange, extraordinary, outlandish even but very real. As if truly there was Kim Namjoon, towering like a giant in front of your door with a shy, dimpled smile etched on his cheeks that he was in the midst of hiding behind a bright bouquet of tiger lilies.
“Hello,” he says airily.
“Hi,” you reply, tone flat.
The hallucination doesn’t waver or disappear no matter how much you blink at it which leads you to presume that he was real and really, truly terribly lost, because why else would he be here.
“These are for you,” he continues, pushing the flowers too eagerly towards you so they end up smacking right in your face.
You sneeze. Then again. Then again.
Someone shouts something down the hall. All you recognize from the loud cheerful voice is the pronunciation of Namjoon’s name. As you finish sneezing, you look up to see that the nightmare was now added to the count. Jung Hoseok was there as well. He looks at you with mouth hanging open, legs frozen in mid-step before someone rams into him, unable to properly stop from their quick run.
“Bless you,” Park Jimin wished earnestly, laying on the floor that he just somersaulted onto.
You dare to peek outside of your door, waywardly hearing Namjoon’s breath just leave his body as though you punched him in the stomach. To your never-ending bewilderment, there are four more figures scrambling to get to your door. They look at the neighbouring numbers holding a piece of paper as a guide. You meet their eyes and they all, completely in sync, stop moving, staring back at you with wide, panicked expressions.
“May I help you?” you ask, not exactly timidly but your voice is faint.
“We saw the ad in the newspaper, about offering to rent five rooms and we’d be very much interested,” Namjoon states, suddenly very smooth. The leader, the spokesperson.
Behind him, seven heads, the four of which were also now present to huddle in the small of the communal hallway, nod eagerly along.
“Huh,” you say just as smoothly as if it makes sense. It doesn’t.
“Will you excuse me for a second?”
You close the door in front of their faces with a hollow smile, before urgently pulling the phone out of your back pocket and typing in three damning letters. B T S.
Instantaneously you’re taken to the description of their illustrious career. You change the tab to News and read the first page, vaguely growing aware of the barrage of whispers erupting behind the doors. It sounds like they’re arguing.
BTS officially to disband.
BTS said to leave for military service.
BTS rumours of leaving, officially confirmed by the HYBE.
BTS thanks all the fans before collectively leaving for military service.
Yes, you remember the apocalyptic flood of grief that had crashed practically all over the internet, when the beloved group had bid their final curtain and left the stage for good. Only recently, as seven months had passed, did anyone else have an arguable space to say something that was not connected to the grief felt by millions at the proverbial loss of their brightest stars.
You click on seemingly the most trustworthy of articles and breeze through the lengthy text.
“We’re very grateful for the opportunity that was provided by our fans. We’ll never forget you and I hope you’ll never forget us,” says Kim Namjoon, hair a different colour than now. Kim Namjoon of nearly year ago.
“This wonderful chapter of our story has come to an end and we’ll always cherish the marvellous moments that marked this time of our lives,” continues Min Yoongi in a one-on-one interview with the Korean news.
“We’re excited by the future that path might lead. We’re not saying goodbye forever,” supplies Jung Hoseok. As the journalist remarks uncharacteristically solemnly. “But we’ll use this time to find ourselves again. I, myself, can learn to be Jung Hoseok.”
“Is that something you think you’ll find difficulty with?” The journalist asks. Hoseok doesn’t provide the answer, merely looking sideways.
“Yes, I’m looking forward to this. Don’t misunderstand this…this truly was my life, being Park Jimin of BTS,” he’s practically glowing, “but I’ve been waiting a long time for this chance.”
“A chance? Do you have something special in mind?”
Jimin’s answer is cut short by a firm step on his foot.
“It has been a long-time coming,” Taehyung wonders in one of his last v-lives, “we’re of course sad for leaving you guys, but this was inevitable. All stories come to an end, right? How would we have begun in the first place?”
“Do I feel sad?” reads Jin and Jungkook together, at the last broadcast of Eat-Jin.
“Of course, I feel sad. This… this was everything I was but we’re not losing each other. The bond that we have is unbreakable and whether as BTS or just a group of young men we’ll always try to be the best that we are,” Jin says, gently with Jungkook tearing up by his side, “and I believe that you’ll try to be the best of yourselves, as well. We created a wonderful legacy, a dream beyond our wildest imaginations and now we’re handing that legacy into your gentle care. Remember, we’re not losing each other, we’re just holding hands at a greater distance.”
As the broadcast closes, even you have some semblance of a choked-up twinge clinging in your throat and you don’t even know these people. Well you do but also don’t, yet also they’re right in front of your door.
You open it again and the guys, caught in a semi-physical skirmish quickly detangle themselves like a group of schoolboys in front of their headmistress. Hair and clothes are adjusted, backs are straightened, you are more confused than ever.
“So all of you want to live in my apartment?” you ask, not meaning to sound harsh, but you also know that they’re lying. Clearly.
“Yes, it’s…uh affordable and we liked the pictures,” Namjoon stammers.
Taehyung tiptoes to Namjoon’s ear and whispers something discreetly, his dark eyes never leaving you, even as his face is flushing brighter and brighter. They all look surprisingly giddy, even Min Yoongi, who by reputation was always unbothered, was shyly grinning in his palm, not daring to make direct eye contact. Namjoon elbows Taehyung in the chest.
“What did he say?” you inquire, eyebrows arched.
Namjoon glares at him before pushing out a polite -
“He urges you to put the flowers in a vase.”
Truly a shockingly bad liar.
“Okay, this conversation has been horribly awkward,” you surmise, wearing out at a rapid pace simply by being in their presence and trying to digest this evident conundrum. “If you want to live in this apartment, you’ll need to sign the lease with Rebecca, she’s the legal owner of this place.”
Namjoon nods and then translates what you said to everyone else, they “ooooh” and “aaahhh” and you can swear that Jeon Jungkook has the cheek to mumble “pretty” at you, ears and neck sweltering like gasoline on fire. You almost dismiss it but the way Jin nudges him square in the ribs, makes you think otherwise.
They all seem to find one topic interesting in particular as they practically explode in a heated argument which Namjoon tries to miserably placate, desperately herding them into some kind of a remotely moral behaviour. Comically they all fall silent and look expectantly at you with stars in their eyes as though you're offering a life free salvation coupon at the price of a single coin.
“Can we do that today?” Namjoon asks and they all wait on your reaction, breaths bated. You have reached the end of your sanity, so with some finality, you reply -
“No. If you still want the apartment tomorrow, you can talk with Rebecca then. She lives in 76, three floors up.”
“What about you?” Jin asks with an accent and ears blazing degrees hotter than Jungkook’s. “Do you want us?”
You stare at him for so long until Namjoon has the good sense to reiterate.
“He meant would you want to room with us? We're all nice guys, we swear, it’s just that we’re still seven men and you’re one girl, could be...uncomfortable.”
Yes.
And had it been anyone else, literally anyone else, be it Chris Pine or Queen Victoria risen from the grave, you’d still say no, but it’s BTS and more than anything in the world you want to know why they were looking for this apartment specifically. And so you say -
“I’ll think about it on my own time.”
Once again what you said is translated and everyone seems happy with the answer given. They giggle and flush before sobering up their thoroughly embarrassing act and part away from your doors, as chaotic as they had arrived in front of them.
Namjoon stays back, outstretching his large palm towards you for a handshake. You clasp around it, childishly squeezing it with all your might. He doesn’t even seem to register it.
“So I guess we’ll be seeing you tomorrow then.”
“I guess so,” you echo, dazed off your wit.
He gives another blinding smile.
You would never admit it, but you loved small towns. It reminded you of your childhood, the good parts at least. You enjoyed the sleepiness of small towns, the stillness of night time, and the close yet phony camaraderie amongst neighbors (that part you found amusing). Maybe that’s why it didn’t take much convincing from your cousin Harris for you to move to Newton, Massachusetts. You desperately needed a new scenery.
Your mother’s death left you a hefty inheritance, enough to buy your own home in the quiet suburban town. It wasn’t the nicest house on the block, but it was nice enough. With Harris joining you, a part of you was excited that it would be like old times, minus your mothers.
While that dynamic had been on your mind since you arrived, Harris brought up the obvious elephant in the room during your first shift.
Harris owned an independent bookstore, Newton’s Book Nook, in the heart of town. You both shared a love for books and even gave her the idea for opening her own store. It was a no-brainer that you would work there once you moved.
“Why are you getting so tense?” she questioned. You were at the counter, trying to go over how her brand new digital cash register worked during a slow hour. Your patience was slowly starting to go thin with both the cash register and her. “Hello! Earth to Y/N.”
You gritted your teeth. Why else wouldn’t you be tense? She abruptly turned the conversation into something heavier than it needed to be. There was a time and place for this conversation; it definitely wasn’t here, now, or anytime soon.
“Is it because I brought her up?” she asked. Though it might not have been her intention to have an attitude, it sure did come out like that.
That was when your eyes darkened towards her. You tried your best to not get upset and control your temper. You were not your best when you were upset. Things could get pretty wild.
“Yes,” you started off with gritted teeth. “Because I’d rather not dwell on that part of my childhood.”
“Look, I understand that,” she said, trying to calm the situation. “I’m just saying-”
Ding! Saved by a customer. This conversation could be over. Even if Harris had continued, it would’ve gone in one ear and out the other, just like most conversations about your mother.
“Hi, how can I help you?” you asked, putting on your cheeriest voice while ignoring your cousin’s attempts to continue your conversation. Harris threw her hands up in defeat and walked away, mumbling at how the conversation would be finished later.
The man who walked in was tall with dark, cropped hair, a clean-shaven face and an air of confidence. He looked around absent-mindedly before his eyes settled on you. He took in your form, inspecting your body up and down multiple times without saying a word. You grew uncomfortable under his gaze, feeling like you were his next prey. You found yourself shifting back and forth on the balls of your feet, anxiously waiting for this man to finally speak.
“You’re not Harris?” he questioned. His suit was nice, perfectly-tailored for his form, and with cufflinks with an indiscernible symbol inscribed on them.
“No, I am not. Are you looking for her?”
“I was, but now I’m curious about you. I’ve never seen you around before, and I know everyone in this town. What’s your name?”
His sharp, intrusive gaze gave you the chills. His vibe was completely off. If he were any other person, you would’ve blown him off. But judging by his fancy suit, expensive shoes, and briefcase, you knew he was very important.
“I’m Y/N,” you responded meekly.
“Y/N. Are you a friend of Harris’s or something?” he asked. “I know she’s particular about who she hires.”
“We’re cousins,” you answered plainly. The shop might have been small, but not small enough at the moment. For some reason, Harris couldn’t hear your conversation or the unease in your voice. You tried your best to hide it from him, but you knew he could sense it. His arrogant smile hinted that he relished in it. At this moment, your gift of discernment was a blessing and a curse.
“Well let’s see if you share Harris’s knack for books. I’m looking for a particular book. I know it’s a thriller and the author’s name is interesting. Something like Wallis or Weston I believe. The main character is a rich, charming businessman with-”
“American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis?” you answered quickly, adding a smirk on your face. Along with a gift of discernment, you were excellent at reading minds, especially feeble ones.
“Good girl.” You shivered at his comment. You guided him to where the book was located. Thankfully, it was on the middle shelf, sparing you from another uncomfortable gaze. You handed the book to him, and he took an advantage to brush his hand against yours. “Thank you so much, Y/N.”
“No problem,” you said, quickly moving your hand away. You walked back to the cash register and took his card to pay for his order. At the bottom of his platinum American Express card was his name: Neal Loguidice.
“I’ll see you around, Y/N,” he said before leaving, making sure to brush his hand once again before leaving.
Once you knew he was out of sight, you stormed away from the cash register, going into the bathroom to scrub your hands clean until all remnants of him were down the drain.
Tumblr media
By the time your shift was finally over, the street lights began to flicker on. You were initially set to leave earlier, but a fiasco with a new shipment required Harris to go to the post office and you to close the shop. The last two hours were slow, but not painstakingly. You followed Harris’s checklist to a T before you shut off all the lights and locked the doors of the shop. Your silver 2006 Toyota Corolla, Luna as you affectionately called her, awaited you in front of the shop. The street was surprisingly empty. By this time, people were getting off work and preparing to eat dinner with their families. All the shops on this section of the street were closed or near closed.
You walked to your car, pulling on the handle in a few ways before it finally allowed your car door to swing open. You’ve been planning to get a new car, but with the move and new home, your car would have to do until the dust finally settled.
Your car gave you trouble when it started. It wasn’t surprising if you had to start it about ten or so times before it was finally ready to drive. So you went through your routine, but by your fifteenth time, you knew something was off.
“Come on, Luna. Start for me please,” you softly pleaded. But Luna would not budge. On your seventeenth try, Luna rumbled before her engine completely died. You frantically pulled out your phone to call Harris, but you went to voicemail. You were about to dial AAA before your phone screen went to black. You forgot to charge it.
Your head hit the wheel as you groaned out of frustration. This was just your luck. The walk to your house was at least 20 minutes, and there was no taxi service around. You were screwed.
You were about to plead for help or a miracle from a higher power until a sleek black Audi slowed down next to you.
To the driver of the black Audi, he normally never stopped when he saw someone with car trouble, but something about this car and the person in it piqued his interest. He had never seen this car before, and living in Newton and being Assistant District Attorney, he knew every car in town. When he saw your dejected, soft face appear after leaning against the wheel, he knew without a doubt he wanted to help you. He saw a confused expression grow on your face when he parked in front of you. When he got out of his car, you followed suit, wrapping your arms around yourself when a cool early September breeze whipped by.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“To be frank with you, I’m not. My car died on me. I think her engine finally gave out,” you responded. As the man approached your car, you took notice of his eyes. They were a deep shade of blue, and if you didn’t stop yourself, you could’ve gotten lost in them. They felt familiar to you, reminding you of…
“I’d help you jumpstart it, but I left my jumper cables at home. Did you try calling AAA?” he asked, taking you out of your thoughts.
You held up your dead phone. “It died as I dialed them. Do you mind if I call them on your phone?” you asked innocently.
“Uh, sure,” he said, handing you his phone. You dialed the number and waited for a response. When you finally got someone on the line, the operator informed you that for some inexplicable reason they were unable to send someone out to your car until tomorrow morning. You huffed and thanked the operator before hanging up. As you handed the man back your phone, you saw an image of a woman and a teenage boy, presumably his wife and son.
“Thanks. By the way, you have a lovely family,” you told him, gesturing to his phone.
He froze. At that moment, he wished he didn’t, but a part of him was starting to not care anymore. He had a lovely family. That was before everything went downhill. Before things went bad between him and her and subsequently between all three of them. He tried his best to repair things, but it went to no avail.
“Uh, thank you,” he said. “What did they say?”
“Oh. They won’t be able to help until the morning. I guess that means I’m walking home.”
He stopped you immediately. “Walk home? Absolutely not. You’re shivering as we speak. I’ll give you a ride,” he insisted. No way would he let a pretty girl like you walk through Newton alone. He didn’t even know where you lived, but the nearest neighborhood was ten minutes away. Newton was relatively safe, but once the wrong eyes saw a beautiful girl like you walking alone, things could have turned for the worse.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to intrude.”
“Absolutely. Where do you live?”
“Essex St.”
His eyes widened. You were neighbors. He didn’t even notice you moved in. “That’s perfect. I live on Essex.”
“Okay well thanks, uh-”
“Oh sorry. My name’s Andy. Andy Barber.” You liked his name. It suited him.
“Thanks, Andy. I’m Y/N Y/L/N.” He held out his hand, and you shook it. When your hands touched, you nearly gasped. In a simple touch, you felt something new. You felt trust with him, comfort, and something you entirely couldn’t pinpoint. For a brief moment, his eyes revealed that he possibly experienced what you just did, but he blinked it away before lightly removing his hand from yours. “Let me get some of my stuff out.”
You grabbed your keys, bag, and jacket. When you came up from locking your car, you saw Andy waiting by the passenger side door for you. As you approached, he opened it and closed it once you were settled in your seat.
His Audi was beyond nice, possibly the nicest car you’ve ever been in. It had the cleanest black leather seats, a touch screen car monitor, and it retained its new car smell. His touch screen monitor was linked to his phone, but there was no music playing. You noticed your seat was warm and each seat had climate control. He slipped in and threw the key fob in the cup holder.
“Your car is very nice,” you told him.
“Oh thanks. What’s your address?”
“168 Essex St.”
“That’s right by my house. How did I not notice you move in?” he asked.
You shrugged your shoulders. “I don’t know. I felt like everyone was watching me move in. Every time I leave the house, I always see someone watching me from their yard or window.” He chuckled. His–now both of your–neighbors were the nosy neighbors from Hell, hyper aware of everything. He was surprised Laurie didn’t tell him about it, but then again, Laurie didn’t tell him much of anything anymore.
The ride to your house was silent. Andy didn’t put music on, making you wonder if he drove in silence all the time. He broke his silence to let you know you could charge your phone. Your mouth dropped in wonder at your phone simply charging by laying in the center console.
When he pulled up to your house, you saw Harris’s car was in the driveway. Your phone finally turned back on, alerting you to Harris’s numerous texts and calls wondering where you were. You quickly texted back saying you were about to walk inside.
“Thanks for the ride,” you told Andy.
“It’s no problem. My house is literally right there,” he said, pointing to the nice blue suburban home. He was diagonal from you with a perfect line of sight, and there was another car in the driveway. Possibly his wife’s. “If you ever need a ride or anything, here’s my number.”
The card he handed you read, Assistant District Attorney, Andrew S. Barber.
Well, that explains the car and the suit, you thought.
“I’ll see you around,” you told him, even though it sounded more like a question unintentionally laced with want.
“Sure. Hopefully, everything goes well with your car. If not, I have connections,” he told you with a smile. You flashed a smile back before gathering your stuff. “Have a good night.”
“You too,” you responded. His car remained in your driveway until you walked through your door. When he pulled into his own driveway, he made one final look at your house, a small smile creeping on his face. Little did he know, you were watching him through the small curtain of your door.
The second you turned away from the door, Harris was waiting expectantly at the base of the stairs. A frantic look was painted on her face, possibly from your lack of response to her numerous calls and texts. She let out a deep breath before she began her motherly scolding.
“Y/N, what the hell? I’ve been calling you all evening! What happened? Where’s your car?”
“Both my phone and my car died. I had to catch a ride back.”
“How’s your car? What did AAA say?” she asked. Even though she was a year and a half younger than you, she always acted like your mother and protector. Maybe it was because Harris was an old soul or maybe it was because she felt responsible for you after your turbulent childhoods.
“They can’t see it ‘til the morning,” you told her. Your stomach growled, and the absence of the smell of dinner didn’t make your growing hunger any better. “I’m guessing it’s leftovers for dinner?”
“Yes,” she said as you walked to the kitchen. “Y/N, we never finished our conversation from earlier.” You froze in between the archway of the kitchen and living room. Your day was already going tense, was this really necessary?
“I was hoping we didn’t,” you answered honestly. You placed your stuff on the counter as you began to rummage for leftovers. Only thing you could find were takeout cartons from when you two ordered Chinese food two nights ago.
“I know you didn’t, but I think it’s time we finally address it. You have to forgive your mom eventually.”
“No, I don’t,” you snapped. You tightened your grip on the to-go box filled with lo mein. You placed, nearly slammed, it on the counter before the carton crushed under the weight of your frustration.
“I know your mom hurt you, a lot. But she still looked out for you, even when it didn’t feel like it. I mean look at where we are right now. It’s all thanks to her.”
“All thanks to her? Am I supposed to be thankful that my mom abandoned me for her own selfish gain? You think some money will forgive all the hurt she caused me?”
This was the most you’ve talked about your mother in the longest time. Harris knew it was a sore spot for you, but she had your best interests at heart. But at this moment, she was starting a losing battle.
“She did it to protect you! You would’ve done the same.”
“No. All she cared about was herself. She could’ve stayed and fought for us, but she didn’t. She chose the easy route and left her daughter and the people she supposedly cared about behind in the process.”
“We’ve all made some decisions that hurt others, but you have to put yourself in her shoes.” Harris stopped and took a deep breath. A solemn look grew on her face, and you knew the conversation was going to go in a place you definitely didn’t want it to go in. “Y/N, we’re both making a fresh start here. What makes us any different from her?”
You opened your mouth in protest, but you knew that there was nothing to say. Since your mother abandoned you, you vowed yourself to never end up like her. But life had other plans, tough decisions were made, and you were trying to have a fresh start, a new lease on life. Were you really that much different from your mother?
Instead of continuing the conversation, you threw your hands up in defeat. “You know what, I’m not hungry. I’m going to turn in for the night. I’ve had a long day.”
“Fine,” she said, finally conceding to the unproductive conversation. “I’ll give you a ride in the morning. Good night.”
Harris’s words resonated in your mind as you walked up the stairs to your bedroom. Maybe Harris was right. What makes us any different from her?
You shook off the thought. You weren’t like your mother. You had fought your hardest to the end. That was the difference between you both.
Tumblr media
Your favorite spot in your new home was your dining room. During nights where you couldn’t sleep (like this one), you’d come down with your book or journal and sit at the bay window seat facing the street. Streets here were quiet at this time of night, and you found comfort in the dark and quiet.
Your dining room was eclectic, a perfect blend of Harris’s taste for contemporary furniture and your love for traditional and antique furniture. Antique decorations lined the wall and were the centerpiece from the dining room. It reminded you of the one from your last home, and you remembered how you wished you would’ve saved it.
You tried to turn your mind off of the past and focused on the beautiful clear sky out of your window. The crescent moon shone behind Andy’s house. His house was dark as you suspected.
You thought about the jolt of energy you felt when you touched Andy. Of course he felt it, but how could you explain it to him? You quickly discerned he knew nothing about magic, but the touch you felt was special. You had never experienced that with anyone before, and you remember secretly reading about special connections in your aunt’s grimoire when you were younger.
You shook off your thoughts. Here you were at 2 am thinking of you and your very attractive, kind, married neighbor you just met might have a connection. It was silly and extra funny when you saw his wife’s silver SUV in front of his black Audi. You told yourself you needed to get a grip.
You decided to read over your spellbook, studying over old spells and the ritual for the full moon.
The sound of feet shuffling broke your concentration. You initially told yourself maybe Harris was in the bathroom until you realized those noises were coming near the front door.
Quickly turning the pages in your book to a protective spell, you exited the dining room to foyer. You saw a shadow pass by through the curtain of your front door and froze. As you got ready to cast your spell, you heard the sound of footsteps running from your home.
When you opened the door, the shadowy figure was gone. Lying on your doormat was a letter addressed to you. You waved your hand over it, careful to ensure there was nothing harmful emanating from the letter. When the white light that came from your hand assured you there wasn’t, you grabbed the letter and swiftly locked your door back.
You remained in the center of your foyer as you read out the letter.
We know exactly who you are. We know you tried running from your past, but we will always catch you. You can’t hide who you really are forever. The world will know soon. Judgment is coming to you and your family.
Under the ominous letter was a symbol that made your skin crawl. Under the words was a cross made of two intersecting swords. Though it was tiny, you could make out the Latin phrase on the blade.
Deus vult, pythonissam non patieris vivere. As God wills it, thou shall not suffer a witch to live.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. It wasn’t supposed to end this way. It wasn’t even supposed to end.
Your body had grown completely cold. You didn’t need to open your eyes to know how gruesome the scene before you was. It took all the strength you could muster to reach out and grab your phone. You briefly opened your eyes to dial Harris’s number, careful to not let your eyes wander from the screen. You anxiously waited for her to answer the phone. Ring, Ring, Ring.
“Come on, Harris. Please answer,” you begged. Before the last ring was completed, you heard Harris’s groggily voice. “Hello, Harris?”
“Y/N? What’s up, it’s 2am?”
Before you could answer, you broke down. You could Harris jolt up immediately as she tried to soothe you through the phone. Though you were miles away, it felt like she was next to you. “Y/N, what’s wrong? What happened?”
“T-they found me. I need your help. It’s not safe for me here,” you told her as calmly as you could. You made the mistake of opening your eyes and finally gazing upon your reality. Lifeless eyes looked back at you, and you felt your stomach churn. It wasn’t supposed to end like this.
“I can try to make it there. Stay right where you are,” she told you.
“No!” Harris couldn’t come here. You couldn’t risk her life as well. “Just give me an hour or two, and I’ll come to you.”
Before she could respond, you ended the call with Harris. Staring at the scene in front of you, you looked at the symbol of the cross of swords smeared on your wall. Your eyes darkened over the message scrawled underneath it.
You can’t hide who you really are forever. The world will know soon.
That night, you cleaned off any trace of your existence in your old home. After packing your things, you cleaned the scene of the horror that transpired. As you stood in the threshold of your former home, you made your final farewell with the life you tried to create. A single tear rolled down your eye as you left for the final time.
“Incendo.”
From the seat of your car, you quietly watched as your home went up in flames. By morning, all that would remain in this area would be charred ground in this clearing of the woods. All remnants of you and the violence that befell this area would be gone. As you crossed into Massachusetts, you welcomed your new life that awaited in Newton.
feedback is much appreciated!
What the Fuck Happened to the SPN Finale?
Okay so here it is, my Charlie Kelly style manifesto.
Before I get into it, I recognize that I will look like this to many of you, and that’s okay, I understand:
Tumblr media
Secondly, your personal Takes about the writers don’t interest me, I don’t need to hear them. This, as I’ll explain, is going to remain a writer positive blog, and that’s the end of it.
Third, and most importantly: some of what I’m going to talk about is fact, and some is highly educated speculation. I will notate what is speculation, just so there’s no confusion or hot takes in my inbox that I’m a conspiracy theorist or stirring shit up for no reason.
A list of what I’ll be discussing
The episode in regards to the rest of the season
The episode issues: length, editing
Scene placement and speculation of scenes cut
The scrubbing of Jack, Cas, Eileen
Network involvement and general timeline of when things were cut
Misha: theories on where he was, official company line, why we can’t expect to hear anything directly
The silence of the cast post episode (in Misha’s case, mid episode) and what this might mean
Jensen speaking with Kripke about the ending: why it doesn’t mean what you might think (also why kripke remained positive on the ending)
Walker, and why this episode had a major shift
Why the network would do this or get involved
Why the writers of the show simply aren’t the bad guys here, and what I “want” out of this post, since I know it’ll get asked
This is very long and under a cut, but I hope you’ll give it a read.
The Episode In Regards to the Rest of the Season
So, I’ve discussed this already here, but it’s the most obvious thing to me, and that’s the way this episode simply doesn’t fit with the rest of the season.
These people in this room have, truly, been nothing but consistent when it comes to their arcs, especially this season, and the marked dropoff in quality for the finale episode is just too sus to discount to me.  Dabb’s whole focus has been character-based.  In his seasons, we’ve moved far away from MOTW and bro-codependency, the found family taking it’s place.  Does it really sit right to anyone that that was all thrown away in literally the last episode of the entire show?
This is speculation on my part, but as a writer myself, there is no way I would be happy or willing to stamp my name on something that I didn’t think would, at the very least, wrap up the season+ character arcs that I and my team had been crafting.
And before anyone comes in here saying, “well GOT did that!”  Bruh.  The writing was on the wall for GOT long before the final episode.  You could tell that the showrunners just wanted to be done (not only from the plot, but from the fact that they lobbied for a shorter season).  Miss me with that, it doesn’t apply here.  Andrew has, besides Singer and J2, been with the show longer than anyone.  He cares, he is meticulous and detailed, and this ending feels worse than anything Bucklemming has ever written, let alone Dabb.
Additionally, I’ve seen a lot of people say that Dabb was never behind Destiel, that it was all Bobo and Meredith and no one else.  That is reductive to the point of insult of the work Dabb has done to get this greenlit.  This man did not write the s13 Dean grief arc to be slandered like this.  That being said, YES, Bobo and Meredith were the leads on the DeanCas arc this season, but ANDREW IS THE SHOWRUNNER, TO GET EVEN THE CONFESSION APPROVED BY THE NETWORK HE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THEIR BACKS.  AND HE DID.
Finale Issues
So, now that we’ve gotten the fact that this episode doesn’t hit on any of the major themes the show was barrelling towards all season, let’s discuss the fact that the episode is just...weird.
Not only is it shorter than any other episode (I think with the intro and the credits/crew thing at the end, it was around 38 mins), but it was also...idk, 90% filler?
One of the lovely humans in the POLOL server did the legwork here, and broke it down:
Tumblr media
This is weird, y’all.  Most series finales are LONGER than normal (Lost, SOA, Longmire are the ones I can think of off the top of my head), and for the final episode to be this?  I saw more than one person point out that we only really needed 19 episodes, what was the point of 20?  AND THAT’S EXACTLY IT?  WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS FINAL EPISODE IF THIS WAS ALL WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GET?
It simply doesn’t make any sense, the first half of the episode was rushed, a final monster hunt gone wrong, but in the second half?  Nothing really happened?  Sam lived his entire life and Dean just drove around.  It doesn’t make sense to have all the emotional arcs left unaddressed in an episode that definitely needed some kind of spark.
Here’s the speculation I have: the episode seemingly went through a lot of changes between the initial inception of the final season and when we actually got it, but I think it would have been passable (as in, we wouldn’t be sitting here asking each other why each arc feels incomplete) until the editing room got ahold of it.  The only think that makes this episode make sense is network fuckery.  Truly, that is the only thing.  It explains the weird, cuts, the rushed pacing of the first half followed by nothing in the second half, the double montages of “Wayward Son” back to back, and Dean just...driving around for the last half of the episode.
Scene Placement and Speculation of Scenes Cut
Before I get into this section, the info of the shots in the episode I have come from a source that @occamshipper got a week or so before the finale.  She’s talked about this here.
So here’s what Min was given:
1-5: 1 INT MEN OF LETTERS – DEAN’S ROOM Dean is greeted by Miracle
6-10: 6 INT MEN OF LETTERS – HALLWAY/SAM’S ROOM Sam has his routine
D1 1 11-15: 15 EXT FARM HOUSE Establishing
N1 1/8 16-20: 19 Dad’s journal, marker, drawing of masked man in journal.
21-25: 23 INT IMPALA – PMP Driver picks the music
N2 1 3/8 1,2 26-30: 28pt2 INT BARN: A face from the past
28pt3 Sam and Dean say goodbye
28pt4 Shot early for technical reasons, presumably the overhead shot
N2 31-45: 41 INT MEN OF LETTERS – SAM’S ROOM Sam’s alarm goes off D4 1/8 1 46-60: 56 INT N7glasses for Sam, laptop.
So...it all fits right?  It all tracks with the actual episode, where it lands, etc.  The issue is between shots 29-40 which were apparently “too big to spoil.”  Uh.  Where are they?  And where’s 28 pt4?
After Dean dies, the next scene is Sam burning him, then shot 31, the shot of his alarm going off.
So.  Where are those 11ish shots?
PLUS we have the boards, which are scenes we KNOW were actually shot:
As well as scenes for 20 that were shot in 19.
It’s just...weird, it’s weird and again hits on the fact that the episode is so short and like 80% montage.
The Scrubbing of Jack, Cas, and Eileen
So now we have to reckon with the fact that Eileen was last mentioned by Sam after she got snapped by Chuck, Jack’s last mention is that he’s off being God somewhere, and Cas’ last mention is a ~knowing look~ between Dean and Bobby.
I’m sorry, make it make sense:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
????????  That’s the end if it?  They don’t need to be discussed after this???  It’s just simply not something a writer would do, they would not introduce these characters, these arcs, without thinking there’s going to be some kind of follow through here.
So not only were three major characters (including two leads and both of the original characters’ love interests) completely wiped from the finale episode, it was as though Sam and Dean never even needed them, which just...ain’t it.
So why Eileen and Jack too?  Why not just take Cas out of it if they were afraid of the gay?  Because, ultimately, the episode went back to Kripke’s original story: just the bros, they only need each other and no one else.  They don’t want anyone else, they don’t need anyone else.  Easier to go back to something they knew was successful than trust the writers and their audience and take a big leap.
Alex even said he shot for 20 with “some of the guys” here.  What happened to that footage?
The complete 180 of it all still shocks me, I still cannot believe that we were essentially at the finish line, and the network just stopped short, and decided to go run another race, at the expense of the arc of this fifteen year legacy show.
Network Involvement and When Things Were Cut
Okay, now into the juicy stuff.
So I’ve pretty well established that network fuckery is clear, but how much did they get involved, what was the original intent?
Well again, we may never actually know what Andrew’s original script was, but I think, at the least, it would involve Dean speaking his truth to Cas and Sam living a life with Eileen.
Now, it seems today, that Misha said that Jimmy Novak was supposed to be in the finale in one iteration of the script, and while initially my brain was like “that truly makes no sense and he’s either straight up lying or telling a half truth,” I think what may be happening is Misha talking about as much as he can right now.
Tumblr media
So Jimmy right.  Weird as fuck.  Why would he been in the Roadhouse and not Cas?  My current thought (this is about as reachy as I’ll get) is that Jimmy had no lines, could he have been in the Roadhouse as a red herring, like it said “Jimmy” in the script but it was just Cas in human clothes, a way to get around the network saying Cas couldn’t be in the final scene.  Also, you’ll notice that Misha didn’t say that Cas wasn’t supposed to be in the ep at all, just Jimmy in the last scene.
All this to say, there have clearly been multiple versions of the script, getting lighter and lighter with Cas and Eileen as the network pulled further and further back.  Remember, Dabb has to get things approved before they get shot, and if the network kept asking and asking and asking to cut Cas and Eileen, he had to find a way to work around it.  Granted, I still think that if we had been able to get a Dabb script that wasn’t torn to shreds in editing, it wouldn’t be so bad.  It may not be what a lot of us wanted (Dean speaking his truth to Cas and a reciprocation), but doing everything he could to give it to us in subtext or visual clues.
Plus, in all honesty, my man can’t keep his story straight anyway.  He said twice in his panel that the Empty and offscreen Heaven ending weren’t his original ending either.
In addition, remember that Jensen did ADR post episode 18, AND said in a meet and greet last weekend that Dean’s reaction to Cas’ confession was “cut down.” (Source here).  Many of us clowns got excited when we first heard about ADR, because we thought it would be upping the ante on Dean’s reaction, but I remember being a little sus when it was just crying.  My speculation on that is that they cut out Dean actually SAYING something, @winchestersingerautorepair spoke about that here.
The biggest sins were, in my opinion, committed during editing, where the network got too gun shy and sliced the episode until it was nothing but a heartless bro-fest of a finale, not mentioning anything about the other major characters that we all love, and letting the boys just suffer in separation until Sam died and finally joined Dean in Heaven.  The editing came by cutting all the major emotional beats between anyone other than Dean and Sam, leaving the skeleton of the story intact, just shorter and less...poignant than it was ever supposed to be.
Misha
We know Misha was in Vancouver, we know he quarantined, but we also know he wasn’t in the final scene, when he spoke about being in the last moment of the show months ago.  We were not crazy, he was there, he quarantined, and, in all likelihood (speculation but fitting with the timeline), he actually may have shot something (not much, but something).
I have sources here, here, here, and here showing where Misha was at that time.
Remember, the man was completely open about coming back until they finished shooting (look at this thread).  The switch happened, just like everything else, halfway through them shooting.
Please also remember Jake Abel posting his “Where’s Misha” video here.  Jake isn’t malicious, he isn’t being nasty here.  Misha was there, and everyone that’s trying to convince people he’s wasn’t just...isn’t telling the truth about it.
This is one of the things that makes me really mad, because they’re literally attempting to gaslight people into thinking, “oh we were totally wrong he was never supposed to be there” WHEN HE WAS THERE, WE KNOW HE WAS THERE.
So we’ve already heard from several people (Meghan Fitzmartin, Jay, a PA on the set of 19 (WHO WAS NOT WORKING FOR 20), Misha himself) that this was all down to Covid restrictions.  Ultimately, as this post says, we’ve heard FIVE versions of where Misha was.  None of it makes sense, but the Covid protocol seems to be the company line that others are repeating.
Tumblr media
You may ask: why?  Why lie to all of us when we have questions?  Why, in Jay’s case, say that we’re all spreading false lies to stir up trouble, when we just have questions and things that do not make sense.  Simply?  Warner Brothers is absolutely massive.  These people have their careers to protect and are likely all under NDAs.  They want to work for WB again and don’t want to burn bridges, including Misha.  It sucks, but that’s why it’s unlikely that we’ll hear someone come out and say, “yeah we’re lying to you.”
Silence of the Cast Post Episode
So this is...probably the worst part of all this, at least in my opinion.
The guys had all been pretty excited about the end of the show (especially Jared, but Jensen’s panel last week was Jensen as happy and jokey and positive as I’ve ever seen him.  He was so excited about episode 18, about what it meant for Dean and for Cas, and I just cannot buy that he would have been that excited unless he thought there was something more in the episode.
Misha live-tweeted the episode, and was watching it with his kids.  It’s well known that Misha and the kids don’t watch the show because it’s too scary, and let’s ask ourselves, why would he have them watch an episode that he’s barely even mentioned in?
He also stopped live-tweeting at a very specific point in the episode (Dean’s death) and has not mentioned Supernatural since then.
None of them, not Jared, Jensen, Misha, or even Alex, said anything about the episode for nearly 36 hours, when Jensen posted a salty photo on instagram.  It’s just...not what you’d expect for the end of a 15 year show, when the cast and crew are so close to the fans, so close to each other.
My theory?  They didn’t know.  They thought Misha was, at least, going to be in the episode in some way, and when he wasn’t, they decided not to say anything.
You really think that Jensen “Heller” Ackles would have been so excited about the end of the show last week if he thought Cas wasn’t going to be in it at all?  Nah son, doesn’t make any sense.
Even today, in Jared and Misha’s panels, they seemed sad and...more than a little careful, both saying that there were things they couldn’t say, both talking around things that we all have questions on.
Jensen Speaking with Kripke
So this is where a lot of people are getting fodder to take shots at the writers, saying that Jensen hated it from the beginning, but I don’t think so.  I actually think I know what Jensen went to him about, and it wasn’t the lack of Cas or the weird pacing or the montages (which I don’t think were there when Jensen got the script); I think it was the manner of Dean’s death.
I know a lot of people were upset about that, upset with how...normal it was, coming off an episode where they literally beat God.  I actually didn’t mind it, I thought it was an interesting thematic take to be like: you can be a hero all your life, but sometimes shit happens, and you just die.
But imagine how hard that was for Jensen to read.  He would run to Kripke for that, because for him, Dean dying by being impaled by a piece of rebar had to be tough to swallow.
So, why didn’t Kripke say that?  Why didn’t he say, “oh well he had a problem with Dean’s death, none of that other stuff was in the script.”
Guys.  Why would he get involved?  He’s not going to burn bridges any more than anyone else is.  He said the ending was good because it’s the easy thing to do, it’s simple, will cause him no problems in his career, and he can just ignore the people trying to engage with him on it.
Walker
Something else to talk about is the major shift this episode had from the rest of the season: the shift from Dean to Sam.  I am NOT saying that Sam isn’t important, he definitely, absolutely is, but it was DEAN who really needed to wrap up his arc, Sam just needed to move on, get married to Eileen, become the leader he was always meant to.  So what changed?  What was with the shirtless scene, the Austin number and random case there, most of the episode being heavily Sam focused, going through his entire life in a montage?
Anyone else notice the 375 Walker promos, or Jared’s little spiel about Walker and how he hoped SPN fans would “come along for the ride.”
It’s...kinda obvious?  CW wanted to appeal to who they think the key demographic of SPN and Walker is: rural areas in the South.  It would explain a lot, why so much editing, why so Sam focused, the Austin number, the number of Walker promos, all of it.
I’m not saying this is fact, I don’t know that it is, but it is a little suspicious that even in Jared’s panel today, he talked A LOT about Walker and how he hopes SPN fans will watch it.
Why Would the Network Get Involved?
Simply put: $$$
If they think Walker can be the new SPN, and that those crazy SPN fans liked it originally, it’s a lot safer to go with the “original intent” of the show than do something risky (like making one of your two original leads queer).
And?  They don’t care.  They don’t care that the episode didn’t make sense, they don’t care that all the emotional arcs were left hanging, they don’t care by (potentially) smashing together two of Dean’s monologues (one to Sam, one to Cas) that it came of as...gross. ( @curioussubjects wrote a beautiful post showing how part of that death speech was likely meant for Dean here).  They don’t care, they never have, they just want to make their money and move on from the too-loud fandom that fought for representation too hard for too long.
It can’t help but feel insidious, which, honestly, it might be, but it really all comes down to the next cash cow, which, they think, is Walker, even at the cost of the fifteen year legacy show.
The Writers and What I Want
So here it is, all this weird, sus shit laid out on the line.  And you know what?  To me, there is no way to blame the writers, because they didn’t want this.
I don’t think Dabb and Bobo would have gone ahead with the confession in 18 without thinking that there would be some closure to that arc, they wouldn’t have done that not only to the fans, but for the sake of their own story as well: no writer wants to start something that they can’t finish. (And this applies to both Cas and Eileen).
Here’s a basic rundown of what I think happened: they had a clear arc from 18-20, ending in reciprocation at some level from Dean, Sam marrying Eileen, Hunter Sam as the new Bobby, Dean in heaven with Cas and big roadhouse reunion at the end. Covid prevented a good amount of that. Network had to stare at big gay 18 for six months, got cold feet. Thought about Walker, target audience and alienation of the rural areas if it went full gay. Misha quarantined and likely shot something (not much), he was then cut by execs and went home. They likely added in lines referencing Eileen and Cas to make it clear but more subtextual. They wrap, editing gets it and hacks it to pieces, so we get a shorter episode that’s mostly montages and jarringly bro-centric with nothing else. Arcs are left hanging. Dabb gets episode but it’s too late, there’s nothing he can do. Actors aren’t told so they can continue to do positive PR for the ending, they all found out at the same time we did: hence almost complete silence about the finale.
And you know what?  They warned us.  I talked about it here, but they’ve been telling us all season that Chuck wasn’t the writer, he’s the network.  I don’t think, still, that they thought it would be cut up like this, into something so unsalvageable that it’s been panned by almost everyone, even people who didn’t care much about Dean and Cas.
Finally, a masterpiece can be ruined by editing, and while I’m not sure even the script they ended up shooting on was a masterpiece (due to the network meddling already), but to me it’s blatantly obvious that it’s no one but the network that caused this, that took away closure for Dean, Cas, and even Sam.
So what do I want?  Nothing really, there’s nothing we can do, but I wrote this mostly to show people that the writers are not your enemy.   In fact, to the people trashing them?  You’re doing exactly what the CW wants you to: blame the obvious targets, blame Misha, blame Jensen and Jared, blame Dabb.  Scream and yell at them on Twitter and about how the show is ruined because of them.  The network keeps their engagement levels high, they don’t get as targeted for their behavior, and just keep moving along.
Just, please, think about who did this,  Mourn the show, be angry, but not at the people who fought tooth and nail for this for literal years, not the people who wanted it more than we did, not the people who cannot say anything because of their careers and the NDAs they’re bound by.
Someone is going to spill eventually, but until then, we just have to wait, and continue to be loud.
As I made my way to Harlan’s I couldn’t help but think about him. About how there must have been a reason that he wanted Marta to have everything he owned. About how he wanted to ‘teach everyone a lesson’ by not giving them a cent. I couldn’t help but let my mind wander to his grandchildren though. Yes, Ransom is an arsehole, he’s entitled and rich and barely gives a shit about anyone but himself, and me, but he is Harlan’s oldest grandchild. Ransom can’t help the way he was raised.
Then I thought about Meg and Jacob. All Meg had asked of Harlan was tuition money, so she could go to a good school. If it weren’t for Joni in her ear all the time then Meg would never ask for anything. Then there was Jacob. He has some funny political views, but he is still a child. He doesn’t really know much about the world apart from what he finds out on his phone.
I could understand the anger Ransom was feeling towards Harlan. Not justifying his action but I can’t imagine having money ripped away from him like that.
I remember when Harlan was writing his will. He offered me a share and I turned it down. I never wanted money from Harlan, I had my own, but my husband needed the money. Maybe not that much, but he didn’t work, never really needed to and now in his mid-thirties, he had no experience apart from the small amount of work he did for Harlan.
Before I knew it, I had arrived at the mansion. I got out of my car and saw that no one was there. I got the spare key that Harlan gave us a few years ago, out of my bag and let myself in. Despite knowing that no one was there I was still careful. I made my way through the house and into the same room me, Fran and Meg pulled Marta into at Harlan’s memorial. I looked over and saw the clock with the many drawers at the bottom. I went to pull the drawer open but realised it was locked. I knew how to pick a lock with a hairpin, but I didn’t have one.
I went upstairs to the bedroom where me and Ransom usually stay. I know that I left a few replaceable things here including a spare set of pyjamas, clean clothes and hair accessories. I made my way over to my bedside table and searched the top and in the drawer. I couldn’t find any in there, so I went into the bathroom. Luckily, there were some in the basket next to the sink. I grabbed one and went back to the drawing room.
It didn’t take me long to pick the lock. When I open the drawer I found some old joints, a pen and the tox report. I quickly grabbed it and shut the drawer again before going out to my car again. The drive home wasn’t very long, I rushed indoors and went straight to the fireplace, lighting the fire.
I quickly threw the tox report on the fire and watched as it burned. I felt a wave of anxiety go through me. It was like for the first time since Harlan died, I had a realisation of how serious the entire situation was. How if I didn’t burn that paper I would lose my husband. Taking a deep breath, I went through to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water. I honestly felt sick and couldn’t stop shaking.
*
I hadn’t been home long when I got a call, I was confused but answered it, nonetheless.
“Hello?”
“Hello is this Mrs. Y/N Drysdale?”
“Yes.”
“This is Officer Vaughan. I’m calling from Norfolk Police; we have your husband in custody.”
“Oh God, what did he do?” I started internally panicking.
“I can’t discuss that over the phone; however, Lieutenant Elliot has requested a meeting at The Thrombey Estate as soon as possible. You will meet your husband there.”
“Um… okay I’ll be there soon. Thank you officer.” I heard him say goodbye before he hung up the phone. I put out the fire, grabbed my car keys and made my way back to the mansion.
For the second time today, I found my mind wandering on the way to Harlan’s home. This time however, I was more concerned on what possibly could have gone wrong to result in Ransom’s arrest and why I needed to go there instead of to the station.
When I arrived, I saw that most of the family was already there. Parking my car, I got out to see police all around. I felt a few eyes on me before Trooper Wagner greeted me.
“Y/N. If you could make your way to the living room where the rest of the family is, we will be starting shortly.” I nodded my head at him.
“Is my husband here?” I asked him.
“Yes, he is inside.” Trooper Wagner confirmed, motioning for me to go into the house. I did so with no complaints. Once I got inside I saw Ransom standing behind the couch at the back of the room. I almost ran over to him before engulfing him in a hug. He didn’t object and quickly moved his face down to my level giving me a hard kiss.
In the moment I thought I heard Walt scoff, but I couldn’t care less. When we broke the kiss, Ransom didn’t give me the chance to say anything before he leant down to whisper in my ear.
“I’ll explain everything later.”
I gave him a small smile. I saw Marta leading Blanc to the drawing room. I assumed she had figured out when the tox report was and I thanked my lucky stars that I destroyed it. It didn’t take long for Marta to come out with a nervous look on her face and Blanc looking slightly disappointed.
Marta stood in front of everyone in the living room.
“Um. You have always been good to me. And what I'm about to say isn't going to be easy, and you're going to be upset, but especially after everything you've gone through the past few days, I thought you deserved to hear it from me.” Marta took a deep breath and I heard Walt mutter under his breath.
“It was me. Harlan killed himself so he didn’t die from the morphine overdose I accidently gave him. I don’t know how it happened, but I accidently switched the med bottles.” I saw fury cross everyone’s face. I couldn’t even think before everyone started hurling insults at Marta. Accusing her of doing it deliberately. I saw Linda storm out of the room upset and before Ransom could stop me I followed after her.
“Linda?” I asked her softly.
“What do you want Y/N?” She huffed impatiently.
“Look, I know we haven’t always gotten along. If I have done anything to you which has caused you to hate me then I am sorry. But whether we like it or not, we are family. You are my mother-in-law. I just want to know if you are alright.” I told her.
She sighed. “I don’t hate you Y/N. I mean how could I. You’re basically perfect and I can see how much my son loves you. I guess, I don’t know.” She seemed unsure for the first time. “Your marriage with my son is nothing like mine with Richard. You have a stable job that wasn’t set up for you and you effortlessly make other around you happy. Now I’m not saying I’m jealous but…” She didn’t need to continue. I understood what she meant.
She nodded her head at me before turning around and going outside to light a cigarette. I soon felt a presence behind me.
“Is it me or did you and my mother just have a conversation without arguing and threatening.” Ransom chuckled. I saw Marta being taken out in cuffs before turning to my husband. “Yes, now let’s go home. You have a lot of explaining to do.”
Hi I'm so so sorry for bothering you! I absolutely love your child reader x parent dreamsmp series, it's amazing!! I had an idea for the lost ones though, or a seperate scenario if that's okay!!! What if the baby was a witch? Witches exist in minecraft, so what if as the child gets older, their powers grow. Windows breaking when they cry, things floating mid air, sparks and fires from their hands, things like that?? I think it'd be really interesting if you want to write it!! If not all the lost ones, then just tge sbi seperate please! Thank you so so very much, i love this series and i cant wait till the next part!!!!!
Magical Born
Pairings: Tommy, Technoblade, Wilbur, Philza, and Ghostbur x F! Child! Reader
Warnings: Mentions of raids, mentions of death, light blood, light violence
A/N: It’s based on Lost Ones Canon, all over the timeline, but it is NOT canon. I didn’t write all of Lost Ones because it’s already a lot to write Lost Ones as its own entity :P I added Ghostbur though for fun because I just really like Ghostbur. Technically he’s part of the SBI!
I went further than planned though so enjoy. ♥
TommyInnit
        Tommy screamed as he ran from Fundy, who had caught him stealing from his house, (Y/N) sitting on his shoulders as she laughed. He was making for the sewers as (Y/N) waved at Fundy.
        “Bye, bye furry.” She smiled.
        “YOU’RE SO DEAD TOMMY!” Fundy shouted.
        But now Tommy was laughing hysterically as he quickly turned a corner and made for Tubbo’s entrance into the sewer. Tubbo startled when his door opened.
        “What the—” Tubbo questioned.
        “No time, good luck big man.” Tommy saluted, (Y/N) waving her hand before Tommy held (Y/N) and jumped into the entrance.
        “WHERE IS HE!” Fundy came in a moment later.
        “Damn it, Tommy,” Tubbo muttered under his breath.
        Tommy laughed as he pushed his wet hair back, (Y/N) clapping her hands.
        “Big score for us little (F/L). And extra disc time for calling him furry.” Tommy grinned. “Let’s get home with it all.” Tommy walked along the pathway, letting (Y/N) walk behind him.
        (Y/N) clapped excitedly hearing extra disc time. She bounced slightly behind him as Tommy was bragging about this adventure.
        “The furry may be an easy target to take, but we managed to escape successfully, becoming richer!” Tommy said to the little girl, who continued to bounce, announcing as she did.
        “Boing!” She giggled.
        Tommy chuckled, not looking back at her. She had a lot of energy like him and always had to find easy solutions to let it out.
        “Boing!” She squealed with delight and Tommy froze where he was walking as she…float over and past him??
        “…What the fuck?!” He shouted, dropping the bag of stolen loot.
        “Boing!” She jumped over to the other walkway of the sewer water.
        Tommy put his hands through his hair as he watched his child fucking float.
        “What the fuck is going on?” He muttered, looking around.
        She jumped over to him, and he yelped as he caught her, staring at her.
        “Hi, big man.” She giggled.
        “We’re going back to Tubbo.” Tommy nodded, picking the bag and walking back down the tunnel. “No jumping.”
        (Y/N) gave a pout but didn’t jump as she followed after Tommy. He had her go up the ladder first before following after. Luckily, Tubbo had gotten rid of Fundy, looking rather miffed as he went back to sorting his chests.
        “I already got rid of Fundy, what are you doing?” Tubbo groaned, seeing the pair.
        “Dude, you got to see this, I don’t get it,” Tommy told him. “Ok, (Y/N) jump.”
        She smiled again before bouncing around. Tubbo raised an eyebrow as she bounced around like normal and Tommy was concerned for his mental health for a moment when she started to take large leaps again.
        “What the hell!” Tubbo freaked out.
        “Exactly!” Tommy motioned to the girl, who was making her own sound effects as she jumped.
        “Could…has she always done this?”
        “NO! You think I wouldn’t say if she always did this?!”
        “What the hell?” Tubbo put a hand on his head.
        “I know!”
        Then (Y/N) jumped too high and hit her head on the ceiling, crashing on the ground.
        “Shit!” Tommy flailed his arms for a moment before rushing over to the little girl.
        He made sure she had no serious injuries as she started to tear up then cry.
        “Hey, it’s ok.” Tommy tried to assure her, gently rubbing where she hit her head.
        But she only cried harder and Tommy and Tubbo both screamed as the windows in the room exploded. Tommy was hugging (Y/N) to him, looking at Tubbo with wide eyes as Tubbo was looking around wildly at the shattered glass.
        “What’s going on?” Tubbo gestured wildly to the windows.
        “I don’t know!” Tommy said exasperated, still gently rubbing his hand on her head, the effect doing good now.
        The little girl died down to sniffles as Tommy connected the dots.
        “Wait, she cried and the windows broke. I think that was her.”
        “What?”
        “I-I don’t get how it works but she’s doing these crazy things.”
        “Do-Do you think she’s magic or some crap?” Tubbo threw out whatever he could.
        Tommy’s eyes went wide as he nodded. “That has to be it! I mean…I don’t know where she came from after all.” He muttered now, looking at the little girl.
        “So, what, she’s a witch?” Tubbo huffed.
        “I guess…” Then Tommy’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Tubbo, can you imagine all the things we could get away with?”
        Tubbo frowned as Tommy now, as Tommy put (Y/N) down as she had calmed down.
        “This could be great! We’ll need to figure out how to teach her of course…”
        “We don’t even know what we’re doing with her as a normal kid!” Tubbo flailed his arms.
        “But she’s still alive.” Tommy pointed at his friend and Tubbo put his head in his hands. “We’ll be the greatest, richest crime trio!”
        “She’s a child!” Tubbo protested but Tommy picked (Y/N) up.
        “You can help me out now little (F/L).”
        The chaos they could cause once they figured out exactly (Y/N)’s powers were. Tommy couldn’t wait.
Wilbur
        “Alright little star, we have to go talk with a few people today but after, we’ll play together, just you and me,” Wilbur promised the little girl as he held her hand.
        They were wearing their matching L’Manberg uniforms and (Y/N) was humming as she walked beside him, their first stop at Niki’s bakery.
        “Ok.” She nodded with a smile.
        “Thank you, little star. Why don’t we get some cookies from Niki to make sure we’re not hungry while we walk?” Wilbur offered with a smile.
        “Yes pwease!” (Y/N) grinned.
        “Please.” Wilbur corrected gently.
        “Hello!” Niki greeted the pair as they came in. “How are you two?”
        “We’re well Niki, I hope you are as well.” Niki nodded and Wilbur went on. “I’ve come to talk to a few the citizens around L’Manberg,” Wilbur told her. “And we were also hoping to have some of your best cookies while we’re working.”
        “Your very best.” (Y/N) agreed.
        “Of course, I just finished a new batch. Would you like to see?”
        (Y/N) looked up at Wilbur with puppy dog eyes and he chuckled. “Alright, but you have to stay away from the furnaces, they’re going to be hot.”
        “Ok!” She nodded before the two went around back into Niki’s area.
        As (Y/N) watched the woman in infatuation put a new batch into the oven as she was taking the other out, putting them up to cool for the few minutes Wilbur was talking with her about how her life in L’Manberg was. The adults continued to talk as (Y/N) was now looking at the furnaces curiously, wondering how the fire worked to make the cookies.  While she was, Niki suddenly screamed, making the little girl jump as Wilbur looked around in a panic to see why she screamed.
        Wilbur saw after a moment, (Y/N)’s hands had little fires on them! (Y/N) spotted them as well and gave a shriek as his reactions kicked in as he spotted a bucket of water. He snatched it up before quickly throwing it on his little girl. The fire was gone as the girl stood soaking wet, Wilbur bolting over to check her hands.
        “I told you not to go near the furnaces!” Wilbur scolded as he carefully took her hands.
        “I-I didn’t daddy.”
        Wilbur looked at her hands confused though. She didn’t have a single burn.
        “How…” He muttered.
        “I stayed away. Just like you said.” (Y/N) shifted uncomfortably in her wet clothes.
        Wilbur looked at Niki, who had run and came back with a health potion.
        “She’s not hurt,” Wilbur told her.
        “What?” Niki looked at him with wide eyes.
        “I-I don’t know how,” Wilbur said, looking back at the little girl, freezing up as he did.
        All of the sudden…her clothes and hair were completely dry! He hesitated before touching her jacket, indeed finding it free of water.
        “Niki…I have no clue what’s going on.” Wilbur gently pulled (Y/N) to him. “Sweetie, how did you do that?”
        “Do what?” She asked confused.
        “You don’t have any water on you anymore.” Wilbur pointed out to her and she looked at her clothes, before shrugging.
        “I don’t know.”
        “Have…you ever done that before?” He questioned and she shrugged again.
        “How…how do you think it happened,” Niki asked him.
        “I’m not sure,” Wilbur muttered. “I need to send a letter to Phil or Techno; they’ve seen a lot more things in their time. I appreciate it if you didn’t mention this to anyone Niki.”
        “Of course.” The soft-spoken woman nodded.
        “Thank you, we’re going to go home early little star.” Wilbur stood up.
        Niki still gave them a few cookies and Wilbur brought (Y/N) home, making a bird call outside first.
        “Whoa, that was cool!” (Y/N) grinned as a crow landed on Wilbur’s shoulder.
        “It’s one of my father’s crows, they’re usually all around,” Wilbur told her as they went inside.
        “Your dad?”
        “I guess I’ve never told you about him.” Wilbur chuckled quietly as he sat, writing a letter to both Techno and Phil. “My father, Philza Mine Craft, is pretty old but he’s a great dad. He taught me a lot and he’s been through a lot. I’ve told him about you a few times, I suppose I forgot to tell you about him in return.” Wilbur ruffled her hair lightly, making her giggle. “I don’t talk to my brother Techno as much though…we had some arguments in the past. I’m hoping maybe we’ll put that aside to see what be happening with you.”
        He signed off the letters and let the crow have them before they flew off.
        “We’ll know in a few days though I suppose. Now, let’s play some music while we eat these cookies.” Wilbur offered out.
        Waiting for a return letter became a little more desperate the next few days. Not only had Wilbur found his daughter’s hands liked to spontaneously combust with flames sometimes, through some careful observing, but he also found if she was particularly happy she’d find herself being able to jump to his height; and thanks to Tommy, when the boy had come to visit to get instructions from Wilbur, he decided to scare the little girl, causing her to scream and Tommy, in turn, screamed when all the windows shattered.
        “Not a word!” Wilbur immediately demanded as he made sure (Y/N) wouldn’t step on any glass. “To anyone.”
        “What the fuck?!” Tommy screeched.
        Wilbur was tempted to force the boy to stay at the house to ensure word didn’t get out but after a bit of time, he got Tommy to promise him. Finally, two separate letters came in to tell him the same thing.
        (Y/N) might be a witch.
        Techno was a bit blunter about it, proceeding to tell Wilbur off a bit for just taking some orphan, but Wilbur knew it was just his brother’s ways and didn’t hold it against him. Phil’s letter had a bit more useful information and he had once researched witches. Wilbur kept that letter safe as he came out to find (Y/N) jumping around with her powers. She was smart and figured out how to activate it, she often liked to play with her floating power.
        Wilbur wondered what else she might be able to do…It was a rather terrifying thought but he’d learn regardless. She was still his little star, witch or not.
        “You’re getting good at that little star.” Wilbur praised as he came over.
        He also let the thought cross his mind if that’s why she was abandoned but pushed it away. That didn’t matter, she was his little girl now and they’d figure it out together.
Technoblade
        Techno watched from the porch with crossed arms as (Y/N) laughed while running from Tommy, who was armed with two snowballs. Tommy did know how to bring the energy out of his kid. (Y/N) stumbled and fell, Tommy, grinning with victory as he stood over her but the little girl reacted fast and threw snow at him before running again with a giggle at Tommy’s temporary blindness.
        Tommy shouted profanities as Techno smirked, the voices praising his child. That’s his little girl.
        “How much longer are you two going to be out here?” Techno called now.
        “Not much longer!” Tommy shouted before swearing again as (Y/N) managed to hit with a snowball while he was distracted. “THAT’S CHEATING!”
        “All is fair in war!” She demanded.
        “Don’t track snow in the house,” Techno told them before going back into the house.
        Phil was tending to one of his crows as Techno came back in.
        “They alright?” Phil asked.
        “They’re fine.” Techno nodded, going over to his enchanting equipment.
        “I’m proud of you, mate. For taking in that little girl and making sure she’s happy.”
        Techno simply shrugged as he was glad, he had taken in the little girl as well. Life would be nearly the same. He often thought about how things might have been different if she wasn’t around, he probably would have already taken out L’Manberg but he held back for her. He didn’t need people hunting him down again right now and find out about her…
        He was taking off his pick to put a new enchantment on it when his world slowed hearing a scream and Tommy shouting loudly. Running out with his pick in hand, Phil grabbing his sword off a chest as he ran after, he found (Y/N) shaking on the ground as a wolf stalked towards her as Tommy had a bloody arm. Techno dropped his pick as he ran over, taking off his crossbow, a bolt already loaded.
        He took a shot at the wolf but his panic made him sloppy and he missed! It went over the wolf, it not noticing until…
        The bolt turned around all of the sudden and hit the wolf right in the front leg. It gave a yelp, snarling as it backed away from the little girl now, who was scrambling back.
        “B-Bad wolf!” She shouted as she shook.
        The wolf noticed the approaching pissed off man and cut its losses, running off with a limp. Techno was most certainly confused about the bolt but he had other worries. Phil was already going over, tending to Tommy as Techno came next to (Y/N), putting a hand on her shoulder.
        “You, ok? It didn’t hurt you, did it?” He asked as he quickly checked the little girl.
        “No.” She shook her head before hugging him. “It hurt Tommy.”
        “I know, Phil’s got him though.” Techno hugged her before picking her up. “Let’s get inside.”
        Phil was helping Tommy inside as Techno followed, picking up his pick.
        “If it hurt Tommy, is it ok it got hurt?” (Y/N) asked Techno.
        “Yes, because it was about to hurt you too. So, it’s ok. That’s defense.” Techno told her but he wasn’t sure what happened.
        The bolt had certainly missed and then flew back, striking it in the leg.
        “I didn’t want to hurt it.” She mumbled. “But it’s right.”
        Techno was confused by her words, but maybe she had gotten confused with her own words. He put it to the side for now as he spent a bit of time with her for the rest of the day to make sure she was alright. After he put her down to sleep, he came down into the main room where Phil was sitting by the fire. Techno sat across from him and brought up the thought he had put aside.
        “(Y/N) said something weird today.”
        “What was that?” Phil looked at him.
        “She said she didn’t want to hurt that wolf. Like she was the one who fired the crossbow.”
        Phil hummed, looking out the window. “Something was weird, I saw that bolt move on it’s on.”
        “Good, I’m not losing my mind.”
        Phil gave a quiet laugh. “Not yet my son. But something odd did happen. Have you ever seen anything like that?”
        “No…Not around here at least. I’ve seen witches do stuff like that though. That’s why they’re difficult to kill sometimes.” Techno took off his mask for the day, putting it down safely on the fireplace mantle. “If there had been a good witch around, I’d say it was them.”
        “I haven’t seen a witch in some time. Pretty rare these days, some people don’t like their power with magic and hunt them down. They’ve pretty much gone into hiding.” Phil nodded.
        “Sounds about right,” Techno grumbled, leaning against the stone of the fireplace, closing his eyes.
        “Mate, you don’t think…(Y/N) might be a witch?”
        “Doubt it. Would have meant she was magic born; they wouldn’t have just left her on someone’s doorstep for them to die.”
        “It’s rare but she could have been naturally born, with normal parents, and we’re now just finding out.”
        “Even then, when she was born, she shows signs. A magical birth has effects while they’re born. The parents would have known.”
        That made Techno frown now at the thought as he looked over at quiet Phil, who had the same frown. They were both thinking the same thing; what if they left her because of the magical birth?
        “It would explain why she said she hurt the wolf.” Phil leaned back as well on the other side of the fireplace.
        “Yeah…I’ll find out more in the mor—”
        Both Phil and Techno jumped up with muscle memory at the sound of (Y/N) screaming. Phil’s crows cried out in panic as Techno was first up the ladder to find (Y/N) whimpering as she hugged herself as a few objects floated around the room. Techno went to her side as Phil came up, Tommy shouting up as he had been startled awake by the noise.
        “Hey, it’s ok little goddess,” Techno muttered to her, putting a hand on her side.
        “T-The wo-wolf.” She whimpered.
        “It can’t hurt you. I won’t let it.” Techno told her, sitting next to her and pulling her into him. “And neither will Phil or Tommy.”
        She gave a few more soft whimpers before everything in the room slowly floated down, Tommy standing on the ladder, watching amazement.
        “You’re alright,” Techno promised, looking at Phil, the two sharing a meaningful look. “We won’t let anything or one hurt you.”
        There was just more of a reason to keep (Y/N) their secret. He’d have to brush up on his knowledge about witches as well.
Phil
        “Alright, it’s been a while since I’ve done this,” Phil told the little girl. “So, I got to do a bit of practice.”
        “Ok.” The little girl tried to have patience as she was taught but couldn’t help but bounce in excitement.
        Phil chuckled, ruffling her hair, before spreading his wings. “Ok, let’s see if I still remember this…”
        He took a deep breath before taking flight; he grinned as he felt the wind flying by, enjoying the wonderful memories that came to him. Flying had been something he had really missed. From the ground, (Y/N) cheered in the snow as she jumped, clapping. Phil chuckled at his little girl’s reaction as he took a few warm-up laps to make sure his wings were truly back in shape.
        Techno looked up from his work at the commotion, coming out as he took off his glasses. Going out, he looked to see Phil snapping by in flight and he smiled watching his father flying again. He had seen how it affected him to be trapped on the ground. Across the field, he spotted his little sister running after their father rather uselessly but she jumped as she followed after the older man, cheering as she did.
        The older brother shook his head as he watched his father again as he leaned his back on the railing, a few of Phil’s crows flying beside him as they were going over the roof. Techno was watching when another figure went over his head, giving a shriek.
        “Techno!” (Y/N) said and Techno fell backward off the railing of the steps, his cape over his face, but he shouted out.
        “PHIL!”
        Phil looked over to find his daughter now falling to the ground?! With practiced ease, he turned and caught the girl before she hit the ground. He took a bit of a crash into the snow as his crows gave out a few cries in panic but he was alright. It wasn’t the first time he had crashed after a flight.
        (Y/N) looked around a bit of daze before grinning and throwing up her arms. “Again!”
        “Did you throw her?!” Phil exclaimed as Techno threw his cape off his face.
        “What!? No!” Techno huffed as he stood up, brushing snow off himself. “I was watching you and all of the sudden she was over my head!”
        “That makes no sense, mate.”
        “I didn’t throw her; I actually like her more than my brothers.”
        Phil looked at the little girl, who was still grinning even though she could have gotten hurt. “What happened?”
        “I jumped and I flew like you! It was a bit scary and I almost fell.” She told him animatedly. “But then you caught me and it was like Whoosh!”
        Phil looked at Techno as Techno was raising an eyebrow at the explanation.
        “Y-You jumped and flew?” Phil turned his attention back to her.
        She nodded. “I was jumping after you because I was excited.”
        “Why…don’t we go inside and then I’ll take you on a flight, alright?” Phil asked her.
        She gave a little pout but nodded. He nodded as well before standing up, letting her walk on her own. Techno followed the pair in and they let (Y/N) be before Phil spoke to Techno alone.
        “I…have a feeling (Y/N) might have magic.”
        “You think?” Techno snorted. “Where’d you find her again?”
        “A village during a raid,” Phil muttered, glancing over at (Y/N) as she was playing with a few of her toys as one of his crows kept an eye on her as a few of them were just as protective of her as he was.
        “They could have been there to get her family. Pillagers tend to like magic and hearing about magic users, they probably were there for them.”
        Phil nodded. It made sense; the village he had found was a pretty small farming village it had seemed. It had been odd to him how they were raided but now it made a bit of sense…
        “Guess I’ll have to brush up a bit on my witch knowledge. It’s been a few years since I’ve run across one, good or bad.”
        “Yeah, it’s been some time. Heard around the arctic that a few of them were going into hiding. Probably because of the pillagers.” Techno nodded, as he went over to his potions to do a bit of work.
        “Dadza! Your crows talk?!” (Y/N) exclaimed in excitement.
        Phil paled as Techno snorted into his potion ingredients chest.
        “You need to learn what the hell they can do too,” Techno said.
        That was going to take a bit of time to learn.
Ghostbur
        “No one else was in the room where it happened. The room where it happened. The room where it happened.”
        Ghostbur clapped as he sat on nothing as he floated above the ground as he watched his daughter sing and do her own little dance. Tommy had taught her all about his favorite musical and taught her a few of the songs. She now wanted to show off what she learned to her father and Ghostbur was more than happy to sit and watch his little blue. He even made sure Friend was there to give her a proper little audience.
        She stumbled over a few words occasionally but he loved watching and listening to her regardless. Once she finished the song, she gave a little curtsy with her hoodie and Ghostbur clapped, giving a joking call of an encore as Friend gave a baa. She giggled, coming over and hugging him. He gladly returned the hug, nuzzling the top of her hoodie.
        “That was wonderful little blue! I can teach you a few more songs and you can sing more for Friend and me!” He smiled.
        “Please.” She nodded eagerly.
        “I’ll have to get a few of my books from L’Manberg, so we can do it tomorrow,” Ghostbur promised her. “We can all go visit Phil as well and you can show him how wonderful you are. Wasn’t it wonderful Friend?”
        The sheep gave another noise and (Y/N) giggled, letting go of Ghostbur and hugged Friend now.
        “Thank you, Friend. You’re a very good friend.”
        “We should get inside, it’s almost time for dinner.” Ghostbur stood now.
        “Ok, can I ride on you, Friend?” She asked the sheep and the sheep didn’t make a noise of acceptance or protest. “He said yes.”
        “Thank you, Friend,” Ghostbur told their sheep friend before putting (Y/N) on top of the sheep.
        After, he took the lead and took the pair to their home in Logstedshire. (Y/N) gently petted Friend’s wool as Ghostbur brought the pair inside, not seeing Tommy, which meant he was downstairs in his chest room.
        “What do you want to eat today little blue?” Ghostbur asked the girl as he helped her off Friend.
        “Carrots and potatoes.”
        “Ok.” Ghostbur nodded, petting Friend before going to cook.
        He made food for (Y/N) and set her up at the table before brewing a few potions he was low on. He hummed as he brewed, (Y/N) happily enjoying her meal as she talked to Friend. Ghostbur occasionally glanced over with a smile at his little blue and the last time he glanced over, he saw Tommy had come up and snuck up behind the little girl. Ghostbur was about to speak as he held a potion bottle but Tommy moved first.
        “BOO!” Tommy gave (Y/N) a scare as he took her shoulders.
        The little girl shrieked…before disappearing.
        Ghostbur and Tommy both stood there for a moment before (Y/N) spoke, gasping.
        “Daddy! I’m like you!”
        Tommy screamed at that, jumping back as Ghostbur dropped his potion bottle, shattering it on the floor. He floated as he went towards the table.
        “(Y/N)? Are you…invisible?” Ghostbur asked, unsure how to process this
        “I can’t see me.” She spoke.
        “HOW?!” Tommy flailed at the empty spot.
        It was another moment before the little girl appeared in the chair again, grinning. Tommy put his hands through his hair as Ghostbur feet touched the ground again as he stood in front of the little girl. There were a few beats of silence before he grinned.
        “You are like me!” He picked her up, hugging her. “This is a very fantastic day!”
        “You found her Ghostbur! She’s not supposed to be like you!” Tommy protested.
        Ghostbur pouted at that as he nuzzled the top of her head. “She can still be like me if I found her.”
        “I…I’m getting Phil. This is not normal and he’ll know.” Tommy pointed at the pair before leaving the house, too freaked out to stay inside.
        “He doesn’t understand yet,” Ghostbur whispered to the little girl before grinning. “Maybe I can teach you to do it on your own like me!”
        Ghostbur had cleaned up the glass quickly as he made (Y/N) stay on Friend just to be safe before he sat with her on the floor, trying to teach her to go invisible excitedly. The moon was a good bit into the sky when Tommy came back, a worried-looking Phil coming in.
        “Phil! We were going to see you tomorrow!” Ghostbur grinned. “(Y/N) wanted to show you a few things.”
        “Like…what?” Phil questioned carefully.
        “She learned a lot of songs and we were going to learn more. Then at dinner, she turned invisible like me! Isn’t that wonderful?”
        “See? I wasn’t lying!” Tommy motioned.
        “Calm down Tommy,” Phil told the younger boy before sitting on the floor with Ghostbur and (Y/N). “Is that true (Y/N)? You did that?”
        She nodded, smiling widely. “I learned a lot of songs and I disappeared like daddy.”
        “Have…you ever done that before? Disappear like that?”
        She hummed before shaking her head. “No.”
        “It’s new?”
        She and Ghostbur nodded.
        “Well…She could be magical born.” Phil threw out, looking at Ghostbur and Tommy.
        “What the hell does that mean?” Tommy asked as he stood next to Phil.
        “She’s a witch. Her parents would have probably been too. It’s extremely rare to have a magical born in a non-magical family. And as the house that Ghostbur found (Y/N) was the way…it was.” Phil avoided the details but Ghostbur floated off the ground as he remembered. “It would make sense; some people aren’t keen on witches.”
        Tommy frowned at the thought with Phil as Ghostbur tried to just ignore the bad images. As Ghostbur looked away from Phil, he looked at (Y/N) to see her sticking her tongue out slightly as she had her eyes closed as well, looking to be concentrating. What she was concentrating on doing made Ghostbur grin widely.
        “(Y/N) can float too!” Ghostbur cheered, making the little girl open her eyes and grin herself.
        “I’m like daddy!”
        Ghostbur laughed as he scooped her into his arms, cuddling with her. Tommy and Phil shared a look though. They had to make sure Ghostbur wasn’t vocal about this…They couldn’t let little blue lose another life just for being a witch after all…
        But Ghostbur didn’t think about that as he was simply ecstatic about his special little blue.
This wasn’t the way it was supposed to happen. It wasn’t supposed to be like this at all. It wasn’t like you had your whole life planned out, in fact, it was quite the opposite. You didn’t know what you were doing half the time and you had reached a point in your life where you were kind of okay with that. While there were good things you tried to bring into your life, there was an even longer list of bad things you tried to keep out.
After hitting your late twenties, you decided it was important to take care of yourself. Getting rid of toxic friendships and focusing on your mental and physical health became your priority. You were doing a great job, as much as the rolls on your stomach and all over chubby look you had attested against it.
One of the other things you decided to finally pursue was your dream of being a romance novelist. You quit your nine-to-five day job that you hated and started working at your favorite bookstore in town while your nights were spent writing. The support you had from your friends at the bookstore was way more than you could ever have imagined. Even your boss loved hearing about your story ideas.
“You look tired.” Your boss, Dylan, joked as you walked into the breakroom, ready to start your shift.
“I was up late last night writing.” You hung up your jacket in your locker. “I could really use some… cof…fee.”
Your eyes lit up as you saw the full cup of coffee in your boss’s hand, extended to you. It was from your favorite shop down the street.
“How did you know I wanted coffee? Are you even real?” You took the cup and gulped down half of it.
“You forget, I’m your beta reader.” He laughed. “When you’re up writing, I’m up reading. You’re welcome, by the way.”
“Thank you!” You held the cup up to him, then took another big gulp.
“You get another tattoo?” He asked, eyeing your arm as you closed your locker. You looked down at your arm and smiled.
“Yep. Trying to finish up this sleeve.”
“I have a question.” He leaned back in his chair, his hands resting in his lap. “Why don’t you ever write with characters that look like you?”
“People like me don’t get to have romances like those in the books.” You shrugged and headed out to the floor.
The morning mid-shift was always your favorite. As much as you hated getting up early, the bookstore was at its quietest then and you could relax with your coworkers. You spotted your favorite co-worker manning the help desk and focusing on something on the other side of the bookstore.
“What are you looking at?”
“Shh…” They put their fingers to their lips. “I don’t want him to know I see him.”
“See who? What are you talking about?” You whispered, trying not to expose yourselves even though you still didn’t know what you were looking at.
“That guy.” They pointed and your eyes followed the direction of their finger to see a tall figure in the magazine section, his hood up, mask on and wearing sunglasses. You could see black bangs peeking out under the hood.
“So why don’t you want him to know you see him?”
“In case he’s stealing.” They whisper-yelled and you laughed.
“I’ll just go talk to him.” You stood up straight and made your way over. He looked a little less shady up close because you could see that he was lost in his reading and didn’t even really notice you being there.
When you first walked up, you saw him reading one of the car magazines from the shelf, but now that you were closer, you could see he had a book inside the magazine and was reading the book.
“You know, normally people put the magazine in the book, not the other way around.” You leaned closer to him and he jumped back, shrieking as he dropped the magazine and the book. He backed away from you and if he didn’t have his entire face covered with a mask and sunglasses, you could only imagine his eyes wide and his mouth open.
The magazine was all bent on the ground and you leaned over to pick it up along with the book. You could only imagine what he was reading that he had it hidden in a car magazine. Putting the magazine back on the shelf, you looked at the cover of the book. Romance?
“Were you reading this?” You held the book up to him with a smile.
“No.” He shook his head back and forth anxiously.
“Then why is it here?”
“It fell.”
“From where?” You questioned.
“Alright fine, I was reading it.”
He dropped his head low and you gasped sarcastically, your hand to your chest. “No! Really? I would never have guessed.”
“Very funny.” You laughed, looking back down at the book.
“So why are you hiding then? Or did you not notice there’s only like two other people shopping.” You gestured to the rest of the store. “Or maybe you couldn’t see well with those incredibly dark sunglasses.”
“That’s not it.” He pulled off the sunglasses and mask, dropping the hood to his sweatshirt as he looked around the store nervously. “I just don’t want anyone to know I’m reading it.”
“What’s wrong with it?” You looked at the book. It was one of your favorites. “This is a great book.”
His eyes widened as he quickly looked back to you. “You like romance novels?”
“I love them. I’m trying to write one actually. This one has given me a lot of inspiration for my current story.”
“That’s so cool.” He smiled, looking really amazed, you weren’t sure by what though.
“So, let me get this straight.” You narrowed your eyes skeptically. “You come in here to secretly read these romance novels because you don’t want people to know you’re reading them?”
“Yes.”
“Why don’t you just buy it and read it at home?”
“I have a roommate and I don’t want him to know.”
“You could go to the library.”
“They don’t have the ones I like and they don’t release as quickly as you guys do.”
“How long have you been doing this?” His mouth opened and he turned away, looking nervous by the question so you changed the subject. “Never mind. Honestly, as long as you’re not stealing or planning to steal, you can read however you’d like.”
You stepped back, adjusting the unorganized magazines, and turned to walk back to your station.
“Well, wait.” He went to grab your arm, but thought better and pulled back as you turned around. “You said you write.”
“Yes.” You nodded at him.
“Can I read your stuff?”
“Why would I let you read my work?” You laughed slightly uncomfortably. It was a weird question. He doesn’t know anything about you or your writing. You could actually suck at it. “I don’t even know you.”
“Goshiki.” He put his hand out with a smile and you shook it, telling him your name. “So we’re friends now?”
You started laughing. You couldn’t believe this guy. Friends? You met less than two minutes ago because he was being a creep in your store.
“You don’t have to laugh.” He grumbled.
“Why do you want to read my work so badly? You don’t know me. It could very well suck.”
“I just don’t have anyone to talk to about this stuff. I’ve been reading these books for years. I tried to avoid them in high school because I knew I would get made fun of, but I’ve never met anyone in person that likes them too. Not since you.”
The look on his face made you feel so guilty. Why did you have to have such a big heart? The guy just wants to talk about romance novels. He also had a point. You barely knew anyone that liked romance novels and you worked at a book store. Honestly, you could use a second opinion. Dylan had no idea what he was talking about half the time.
“Fine.” You sighed and he started smiling.
“Really?”
“Yes, but I’m not letting you read it without me watching. The last thing I need is you to steal my ideas.”
“That’s perfect.” He pulled out his phone. “There’s a coffee shop just down the street I like. We can meet there. Can I have your number?”
“Are you talking about Milstead?” You took his phone and typed your information, handing him your phone.
“Yeah, you know it?”
“Know it? I love it. I practically keep them in business.”
That’s where your friendship with the weird guy in the bookstore started. You weren’t so stuck in middle school that you would call him your best friend, but he was definitely your best friend. You had even caught him calling you his best friend to your coworkers and you’d be lying if you said it didn’t have you smiling.
You had never gotten along with someone so immediately the way you did with Goshiki. You had an endless list of similar interests, from favorite books to your favorite coffee shop. You even had the same oddball order from the café. Though, you were both pretty sure that he accidentally got your order once and liked it so much he continued ordering it.
It didn’t take long for you both to start hanging out nearly every day and he started coming into the bookstore to talk to you rather than actually reading the novels he loved. After a couple weeks you trusted him enough to email him your work and it was only a month into your friendship before he was going over to your apartment to hang out regularly.
“Don’t you think it’s weird how close you’ve gotten?” Dylan asked as he helped stock the shelves. He had been wondering how your writing was going and if you were going to finish the latest chapter you had been working on. When you told him Goshiki was coming over to your place later so it wouldn’t get done, he worried.
“I don’t think it’s weird. Is it?” You didn’t feel uncomfortable. Honestly, Goshiki didn’t give off any of the red flags you were so used to seeing in people. He was genuinely a nice person who loved the same things as you.
“I don’t know. You just so happen to love all the same things?” He paused his stocking and looked at you. “Are you sure he doesn’t just have feelings for you and maybe he’s pretending to like the same things as you?”
“Stop trying to put me in my romance novel.” You laughed. “Guys don’t do that for me.”
Later that night you were in your kitchen waiting for Goshiki to get there. You had done something so stupid, something so completely thoughtless that you knew would ruin your mood yet you couldn’t resist the torture apparently. You weighed yourself. The level of fluctuating your weight did was honestly unbelievable. You always had good days when it was down, but days like today when it was up, you couldn’t help but let it sour your mood.
There was a knock at the door before it opened up and Goshiki walked in. You hadn’t given him a key or anything, but it was only a matter of time before you both hit that step.
“I brought Oreos.” He smiled, setting the container on the counter, pulling it open and eating one. He grabbed a second one and split it open, handing you the side without the cream. “Here.”
“You can have my side.” You tried to smile.
“But you always eat my half that doesn’t have cream.”
“It’s fine.” You shook your head. “I shouldn’t be eating it.”
“Shouldn’t be eating it? Are you sick?” He pulled another Oreo from the container and ate it in one bite. He was honestly so lucky he could eat whatever he wanted.
“No just watching my weight. I sort of fell back into some old habits.”
“What’s wrong with your weight? You look great.”
“Let’s get started on the story.” You tried to change the subject.
“Did you finish the chapter?” Goshiki’s eyes were wide and he spit the dryness of the cookies from his mouth out of excitement. You laughed as he quickly covered his mouth. “Sorry.”
“Maybe.” You smiled coyly, grabbing his hand and he grabbed the Oreo container. “Come on.”
Moving to the couch, you sat on the end, Goshiki plopping next to you, and you put your laptop in his lap. There was a tiny bit of anxiety building in your stomach as you sat there watching him read and you were pretty sure part of it was what Dylan had said earlier. Was it possible that Goshiki had feelings for you? You watched as he put another Oreo in his mouth, his eyes glued to screen of your computer, scanning back and forth as he read. You weren’t even sure if he was blinking, the glow of the monitor shining onto his eyes. There was no way someone could be that into you to fake that look of concentration.
You smiled to yourself and kept watching him read. This chapter had a pretty steamy scene in it but you’d known Goshiki long enough and seen him read enough of your work to know that it didn’t matter what he was reading, his expression never changed. His eyes were always wide with interest, mouth closed in a pout.
He put another Oreo in and you watched him as he chewed, his jaw working. You could see the sharp, jagged edges of the cookie through his cheek until it eventually became a smooth, round bump and he swallowed it, reaching for another.
Propping your head up on your hand on the back of the couch, you continued watching him. He was definitely good-looking. You had noticed how good-looking he was the first day you saw him in the magazine section, hiding his romance novel. Not wanting to interrupt him, you tried not to laugh, but definitely couldn’t hold back the smile as you thought about the memory. Would it be so bad if he did have feelings for you? You had dated some really terrible guys in the past. Goshiki wouldn’t even be close to the list those guys were on.
He licked his lips, wiping Oreo crumbs from his mouth and you licked your own lips, swallowing hard as you watched him. You liked the same food, the same coffee, the same books, you had so many hobbies that overlapped and you could honestly spend hours with him without getting bored. You started to think that maybe you were feeling anxious not because of what Dylan thought of Goshiki, but maybe what you were feeling about him. Was it maybe you that had feelings for Goshiki?
“Wow, that was such a good—” He turned to look at you but noticed something in your face, an expression he wasn’t sure of. “Everything okay?”
You had made a lot of questionable decisions in your life, some of them you regretted, some led you to the most amazing times. This last year especially was a time of making really great decisions, cleaning out the bad and bringing in the good. You weren’t sure which direction this decision was going to take you, but you leaned into Goshiki anyway. His eyes went a little wide as your lips barely touched. You wanted to give him time to pull away if he wanted, but he didn’t and that made you push yourself the last inch until your lips met his.
Soft, plush, velvety lips pressed against yours and for an instant you were taken out of the moment, your head swirling with a mix of feelings, amazing feelings that you weren’t even sure you could separate but it didn’t matter because the cocktail they created in your head made you feel drunk, stupidly drunk as you kissed him. Your heart was pounding in your chest and you pulled back.
“Oh my—I’m sorry—I don’t—"
“No, it… it feels good.” He brought his hands up to your cheeks and pushed his lips against yours again, this time without any hesitation. You never knew the feeling of his nose touching yours or the little puffs of his breath against your face, or just how warm, calloused, and big his hands would feel against your cheek. Suddenly you were feeling them all at once and you pulled him closer, your tongue licking over his lips until he opened his mouth.
He dropped his hand to your waist, rubbing at the fleshiness of your body and you couldn’t stop the heavy beating of your heart. The awkwardness you had briefly worried about didn’t exist, it was only bliss. It was the best kind of overwhelming and you wanted more of him.
Pushing the laptop to the other side of him, you lifted yourself up until you could climb over him, straddling his lap. His hands immediately went to your plump hips, cradling them, but again you wanted more and you scooted yourself closer.
“Uh—I…” He gasped, sitting back from you.
“Is this too fast?”
“I’ve just never—I mean, I don’t know how—I’ve never—reading it is totally different.”
“Are you okay?” He kind of looked like he was shutting down. He was saying a lot, but none of it was complete and made no sense to you.
His eyes widened as he whispered quietly to himself. “Holy shit, my dick’s hard.”
“Goshi—”
“I have to go.” He started standing up with you in his lap and you quickly moved out of the way so he could get up. “I’m sorry. I just… I have to go.”
He didn’t even turn around to look at you as he moved hurriedly to the front door of your apartment. You heard the door quickly open and close and you couldn’t even let yourself feel bad. You were just confused.
It was possible you misread the situation, but he seemed really into it. Maybe he changed his mind partway through. You didn’t want to think about you being the problem, but it was hard to ignore. He felt your weight. You sat on his lap and he held you and maybe he finally realized that you didn’t ‘look great’ like he always told you.
You sighed, sitting back on the couch and running your fingers through your hair. You had done so much this last year to better yourself. This wasn’t the way it was supposed to happen. It wasn’t supposed to be like this at all. Great decisions would lead to great opportunities and you were trying to bring good things into your life. Falling for your best friend was not on that list, yet here you were.
Shit.
Once Upon a Time in…
Storybrooke.
Supercorp, Kara Danvers x Daughter!Reader, Lena Luthor x Daughter!Reader, Emma Swan x Reader, Regina Mills x Reader, Snow White x Reader, Prince Charming x Reader.
Word Count: 2900.
Previously on the series - Neverland, Camelot
“So we’re back at square one.” You sigh, looking at Henry, while he is reading his enormous book.
“Not entirely true. We know that we have to lift the curse so you can leave, and that we have to do it fast before you become a character of the book.” He says, without raising his head at you. You’re almost arguing when a plate with at least 20 pancakes is placed before you. That stops your mind mid-rant.
“Thanks, Granny.” You smile at her, who smiles back before leaving. “Except that we don’t know who cursed the town, so I might as well embrace my fate of being a fairytale character right now and forever.”
“You know, there is another way.” He finally looks at you and you encourage him with an eyebrow raise. “Too risky and honestly? I don’t even know if they would agree to it…”
“Would you go on with it already? No need to build up the climax, we’re already past that.”
“Another curse.” Henry says and you furrow your brows. Having two curses surely doesn’t sound like the solution. “A liftable curse, of course.”
You just blink at him when he doesn’t say anything for a while.
“Ok, what if my mom cursed you into believing you’re a part of the story? You would be written into the book-” You open your mouth to argue. “But it comes from someone who knows and can undo it. So, when the time comes, she lifts the curse and you’re not in the book anymore.”
“Uh.” You think about it for a second. “Sounds like it could work. It would be like if we had a countdown watch and after your mom’s curse it would just pause it.” You say and he nods in agreement.
“The protection spell around town gets lifted and she undoes your curse right after. The countdown restarts but you would be ready to leave.” He finishes your train of thought. “Only thing is whether she will agree to this.”
“Well, we’ve got to try, right? Might be our only hope.” You’re almost out of the booth when you look at the pancakes in front of you. “Give me a minute.”
“Can’t believe you’re thinking about food right now.” Henry rolls his eyes at you.
“Can’t believe you’re not.” You say inhaling the food in front of you in exactly one minute. “Ok, I’m done.”
“This was traumatic to watch.”
You ignore him and you both run out of Granny’s to Regina’s house at the end of the main street. You try to go slower so he doesn’t fall too far behind, but you’re still in front of her house way before he gets there.
“Next time, give me a ride.” He is breathing hard next to you but recovers faster than normal. “Mom? Are you here?”
“In the kitchen, kid!” You hear Emma’s voice, and you follow Henry to it. You find both Regina and Emma making breakfast together. The scene doesn’t fail to bring tears to your eyes. It’s too familiar. “Oh, you guys are together, great!”
“We think we have a, well, it’s not a solution. It’s more like a-” Henry looks at you.
“Band-aid.” You give them a forced smile.
“Let’s hear it.” Regina asks and you and Henry do your best explaining the whole thing. “So I would undo the curse and she’ll leave, huh?”
“I know it’s not ideal but-”
“But it’s pretty good.” Emma says. She comes closer to you, putting a hand on your shoulder. “Are you sure about that, though?”
“No. I know nothing about magic.” You shrug. “If this was science or anything related, I would probably be sure, but this is outside my area of expertise. If you two think it could work, then I trust you to bring me back when it’s time.”
“You should know all magic comes with a price.” Regina adds.
“What’s the price?”
“We’ll learn about it later.” She raises an eyebrow at you. You think of Lena and how you need to go back home to see her eyebrow raise.
“I’ll pay.”
“Well, then hold on to it, kid.” Regina says with a smile. “You’re about to become a fairytale character.”
You and Henry look at each other. As good of an idea this was, you didn’t consider all the outcomes. You’ll become a fairytale character; you won’t remember anything about your actual life. You won’t remember your moms, aunts, cousins, girlfriend, grandmas… You know it’s what you have to do, if you ever want to make it out of this reality and back into yours, but still. Not remembering Jamie’s laugh, Maya’s kisses, Kelly’s comfort, Alex’s shoulder squeezes, Lillian’s head tilt, Eliza’s soft voice, Lena’s green eyes, Kara’s smiles, it almost makes you want to forget about this and find another way.
“Ok, the curse is ready.” Regina says and you look up, coming back from your thoughts.
“Smells funny.”
“I know, sweetheart. It's a curse. It's not meant to be pleasant.” She says, making your heart beat faster on your chest. You hold your necklace strongly in your hands; remember your family one last time. Then close your eyes.
“Yay, food!” You open your eyes and look at your moms on the other side with a stack of pancakes in front of them.
“Hey, leave some for your brother.” Regina says, stopping you before you grab all of the apple pancakes she has made.
“Fine, you can have one, Henry.” You joke, putting just one on his plate from the stack in front of you.
“Be nicer, honey.” Emma kisses the crown of your head, before sitting next to you. You smile, putting two more on his plate.
“There, you’re eating just as much as me now.”
“Listen kids, today Emma and I will be working with Mr. Gold to see if we can lift the protection spell around the city. You two will spend the day with the Charmings.”
“Oh, come on, moms. We’re old enough to help!” Henry says and you agree.
“Of course you are. And we will need your help when the time comes. Just, well, you know how is like to work with Mr. Gold-”
“Always an adventure.” You and Henry say in unison.
“Something like that.” Emma agrees looking like she wanted to disagree, instead. “Besides, I thought you had archery lessons with your grandma today?”
“Yes!” You agree, excitedly.
“And Henry, you will be hanging out with your grandpa at the station, right?” She gets his answer in the form of a nod. “Well, great, we’re all very busy today. But we’re still meeting at Granny’s tonight for dinner, ok?”
“Sure thing, mom.” You get up and kiss her head. “See you guys later, I’m late to meet grandma.” You kiss Regina’s head right after. “Bye, mom. Squirt, wanna a ride?”
“Stop calling me squirt.” Henry complains, getting up from the table. “See you later, moms.” He follows you to the front of the house. “Don’t run so fast, I just ate.”
“You know I only have two speed levels. Fast or breaking the sound barrier.” He jumps on your back and out you go, fast enough to be at the station in a blink of an eye. “See you later!”
It doesn’t take long before you and Snow White are walking in the woods close to the city. You love spending time in the woods with her. You love just sitting in silence and letting your senses become even more refined. Sure, you have super hearing, but she teaches you how to focus even on the simpler things. Leaves in the wind, steps in the woods, birds chirping. There’s no other place you feel as in peace as in the woods with Snow.
“So? How are the woods today?” She asks, hand on your shoulder.
“Was there ever a time where there wasn’t anyone in the woods doing weird stuff?” You ask, making Snow laugh loudly next to you.
“Not in Storybrooke.” Snow agrees with a smile and points a direction for you both to walk.
“How do you want to do this?” You ask, putting your bow into position and closing one eye, looking around.
“Like we shall do everything.” You look at her and she winks at you. “Together.”
You miss the shot. You try again. Your arrow breaks. You try again. You lose your temper. You try yet again.
Day after day. Week after week. Month after month.
‘Together’ is the word to live by.
“Mom, can you help me take control of the panic attacks?” It’s late at night when you ask her that. Regina is happy that you’re asking for her help, and you two sneak into her office while Emma and Henry watch Space Paranoids.
“Remember,” She holds you, before she starts. “These are nightmares I’m putting in your mind. None of them are real. You’re safe and sound at home with us. Say the word and I’ll stop.”
“Ok.”
“But sweetheart, you’ve got to fight it. With all the strength and courage I know you have. Concentrate and fight it.” Regina says, and you nod, closing your eyes.
Your mind is filled with visions. Terrible ones, by the way. You see people dying, by shot guns and swords. It’s a war inside your mind. You know it’s not real, but the feeling is the same. You try to run but your legs feel wobbly and weak, and you fall on your knees. There’s a pool of blood under you and when you look to the side you see Henry with glassy eyes, completely lifeless.
“NOOOO!” Your heart starts beating into your ribcage, as you shake before reaching for him. “Please, please don’t be dead.”
“Concentrate. Focus.”
“HE IS DEAD! IT’S MY FAULT!” You yell, with tears wetting your face.
“It’s not your fault.” Regina says in your ear. “Breathe, sweetheart. Breathe.”
“HENRY! PLEASE COME BACK!”
“What’s going on?” You hear his voice. Regina has already stopped filling your mind with visions, but still you see his glassy eyes staring at you. “Hey, open your eyes. I’m here.”
You see him. But your body is still reacting harshly to the vision. You cry and shake. You’ve failed, but you’re not the one to back down.
Day after day. Week after week. Month after month.
You’ll overcome your fears.
“Hey honey!” Emma wakes you up, with an excited greeting, and you roll to the side not opening your eyes just yet. “I could really use your help with something.”
“What is it?” You mumble, still too sleepy to talk.
“We’ve gotta help Ella. And I thought we could have some mother-daughter bonding time.”
“You’re my mother. Isn’t that enough of a bond?” You ask, as a joke, and you get a chuckle in response.
“Come on. It would be much faster if you could fly around and find her for me. Otherwise I would have to use magic to find a shoe and then more magic to track her, and then-”
“Oh my God, ok. I’ll help.” You get up and get ready in seconds. “I know you just want my help because I’m faster than the Flash.”
“Faster than a flash, honey.” Emma corrects you. “Let’s go!”
So you find Ella, just before her evil stepmother shoots her, and you stand tall in front of her because you’re indestructible, and your mom uses magic to contain her evil stepmother, and it’s just another day in Storybrooke. You know, for a really small town, there’s always something going on in here.
“Saving the town with my kid.” Emma throws her arms around your shoulders with a smile. “What mother could ask for more?”
“I don’t know. Sometimes I think being saved probably doesn’t sound so bad.” You complain, getting a tight squeeze from her.
“Sitting around waiting to be saved, with no idea whether someone’s actually going to come for you-” She sighs, loudly. “Trust me, I know doing all the saving all the time sounds exhausting. But waiting around is-is as bad as it can get, honey.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
Day after day. Week after week. Month after month.
Heroism comes first.
“Are you ready?” Snow asks and you agree excitedly. Bow and arrow ready to shoot. You look at her getting in position. “Together.”
You nod, and you two aim at the same spot. Both of the arrows travel together and land side by side in the middle of the target. You smile, excited. “I feel like the Green Arrow!”
“Who’s that?” Snow asks and you look at her furrowing your brows.
“I-I don’t know.” You think and think about how that name just easily left your mouth. Huh. Weird.
Days. Weeks. Months.
“Here comes the town’ superhero!” Emma says when you walk in the kitchen.
“Here is the town’ savior!” You answer with a smile.
“I could use your help out there today, kid!” She widens her smile.
“Doesn’t this town have enough heroes?” You sit next to her, and she kisses the crown of your head, before placing a plate of hot waffles in front of you.
“But only one is super.” She winks, making you giggle in excitement. You’re convinced right away.
Days. Weeks. Months.
“Focus. Concentrate.” Regina says, close to your ear. And you breathe deep trying to do so.
“It's kind of hard when you're talking in my ear.”
“And when the wind blows, or it's raining, or someone's shooting arrows at you. Yes, concentration's hard. That's the point.” She bumps her shoulder on yours. “Sweetheart, you told me you needed help.”
“And I do.”
“Then let me help.” She runs her fingers through your hair slowly. “The world will always throw disappointments, sorrows and pain on our backs. It’s our job to learn how to handle them. I worked very hard for my first reaction to be as Regina and not as the Evil Queen.”
“I know, mom. You said that a million times.” Your answer makes Regina lose her cool a little. And you smile, apologetic. “I’m sorry, you’re right. I asked for help. I need to know how to handle the pain. Please, I’m ready to go on.”
“Close your eyes.” She asks again and you comply. “Are you ready?” You shake your head in agreement.
You see images. Like a lucid dream in your mind. Regina is using magic to alter what you see. And you see destruction, death everywhere. You see Snow’s head detached from her body, Emma bleeding with a sword on her heart, the only thing left from Charming is his hand, still clinging to his sword.
You should be ready by now. In fact, you should be used to it somehow. It’s not the first time you and Regina do this kind of exercise. But it doesn’t matter how many times you see your family bleeding out, totally lifeless in front of you, every single time, without fail, makes your heart beat faster, your lungs stop working, you shake, you start crying and hyperventilating, ready to destroy everything.
“Focus! No fire from the eyes.” You hear Regina’s voice and you come back to yourself a little bit, just to hold back your first reaction. It’s always the eyes.
“But mom is dead.” You cry out, clenching your fist.
“Concentrate. You can do it.”
You can do it.
You kneel before Snow’s head. Breath in while counting to 3. Hold your breath for 3 seconds. Breath out in the same amount of time. You know this isn’t real. Snow is home, and safe. You’re not in the enchanted forest. Nothing here is real.
You unclench your fist. Steadying your breath. You fight the images. Snow’s head goes back to her body. Charming’s hand disappears. Emma opens her eyes.
“You can do it.” You hear again. And you feel the thump in your heart settling back in your ribcage. Beating normal again. Soon enough the entire thing vanishes in front of your eyes. You open your eyes again. Your hands are still shaking a little, but you’re home with your mom, and you’re safe. She smiles fondly at you. “See? I knew you could do it.”
“I did it. I stopped my panic attack.” You say with excitement planted on your face and she hugs you tightly. It doesn’t matter how many months it took you to do so, you still did it.
“How about we celebrate? Guess who lifted the town’s protection spell this morning?”
“Wait, really?” Your eyes widen in excitement.
“Yes! You know what that means?” Regina asks, and you can barely contain yourself, jumping up and down.
“Pizza from the neighborhood city!” You squeak. “Can I go get it? Please mom, let me go get it!”
“Here.” Regina gives you the money. “Bring enough for your grandparents. And Belle. Maybe Hook too. Just anyone who happens to be at Granny’s.”
“So basically the entire city?”
“Basically.” She smiles and you’re almost out the door, when you look back at her and add.
“Did I have any plans for when we could leave town?” You think and think, but nothing comes to mind. “It’s weird, I swear I feel like I’m forgetting something important.”
“Maybe to give mom a kiss?” Regina asks and you smile. Rushing to her and hugging her, before kissing her forehead.
“Yeah, it was probably just a kiss.” You chuckle.
Note
Ok so maybe its too late but ive been re-reading some of your fics and one of them was sirius being disowned. We saw remus' recation, and also james', regulus', and dumo's. What about remus' family's reaction? WHAT WOULD HOPLE AND LYALL SAY? AND JULIAN?
It’s never too late for Lupin love! Thank you for such a lovely prompt <3 SW credit goes to @lumosinlove!
Read the rest of the series here!
Sirius had never seen his mother-in-law so furious.
“We’re making a pie,” she said as soon as the door opened. No, not said—ordered.
“Okay.” He let them inside and immediately almost lost a few ribs to Jules’ hug. “Hey, buddy, how’s it going?”
Jules stayed silent, swaying back and forth slightly with his eyes squeezed shut. “I love you.”
“Love you, too. What’s going on?” Sirius glanced back to the porch, where Remus was waiting behind his father with an amused look on his face.
Something clattered in the kitchen as Hope went through like a hurricane. “Remus John, where do you keep your stepstools?”
“Was the middle name really necessary?” Remus muttered as he stepped into the house. “We don’t have any stepstools, mom! What do you need?”
“A mixing bowl!”
“Hang on, I’ll be there in a second.”
“Don’t worry, I got it.” Sirius patted his lower back and headed toward the kitchen, still dragging Jules along on one leg. Hope’s classic low bun was lopsided from her efforts, and her gray-streaked flyaways practically levitated on their own. “Mixing bowls?”
“Three, please. Julian, you’re cutting off his circulation.”
“No, no, it’s alright,” Sirius assured her. “How’s Wisconsin?”
“Cold, believe it or not,” she said with a wry smile as she gathered an array of familiar ingredients. “How’s everything here?”
He shrugged one shoulder. “Not too bad. We’ve been—”
“Hattie!” Jules shouted gleefully, sprinting toward the back door at light speed. Hattie spotted him half a second later and exploded into a ball of joy; she flung herself into his lap and they scrambled around before running back outside.
“We’ve been good,” Sirius finished around his laughter. “The season’s picking up again soon, so we’ve both been busy.”
Hope hummed to herself, scanning his face. After a moment, she patted the counter with her hand and passed him a sifter. “Four cups of flour in the bowl, please.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
They worked elbow-to-elbow for close to half an hour, keeping easy conversation through the noise of the rest of the house. Sirius usually hated small talk, but it was never awkward with Hope. She let it flow naturally and never took offense when he lapsed into general noises of agreement to avoid saying the ‘wrong thing’.
Sirius wasn’t stupid; he knew exactly what she was doing. Starting off with friendly banter, doing an activity together, sprinkling gentle touches to his arm or elbow—it was a classic Lupin attempt at buttering him up before going in for the heart of the issue.
Less than five minutes into rolling the dough, Hope stopped mid-sentence and raised an eyebrow at him. “You know what I’m getting to, don’t you?”
“Oh, absolutely.”
“Hm.” Her next push on the lumpy ball had a little extra force, and he felt the calm atmosphere start to sizzle. “I’m not angry with you.”
“I hope not.”
“I am rarely ever angry with you.”
“That’s good to know.” He passed her a little bit more flour and a small smile crinkled her eyes.
“You’re getting good at this. Won’t even need me, soon.”
“It’s not as much fun alone.”
Hope sighed and paused her steady kneading. “You are a wonderful young man, Sirius.”
“Thank you.”
“So I hope you’ll forgive me when I say your mother is a bitch.” Sirius mouth fell open a bit in utter shock, but Hope kept going, and her kneading grew even more aggressive. “The few times I’ve had the misfortune of hearing her speak, it has only been about hateful, horrible things. She doesn’t deserve a sweet boy like Regulus and she certainly doesn’t deserve someone like you.”
“Hope—”
She turned to face him and cupped his cheeks in flour-coated hands, pulling him down for a kiss to the forehead. “The greatest mistake of her life was not recognizing everything brilliant about you. We’re here for whatever you need, Sirius.”
He swallowed back the urge to dissolve into a puddle of tears right there on the kitchen floor. “You might have to arm wrestle Celeste for that.”
Hope patted his cheek with a twinkle in her eye. “We’ll coparent. Now put those big hockey muscles to work and help me roll this crust out.”
Remus poked his head into the room and tapped gently on the doorframe. “Knock, knock—”
“Who’s there?” Sirius asked, grinning at the withering look it earned him.
“You’re terrible. Can we switch? My dad wants to talk to you for a second.”
He looked to Hope, who huffed. “You’re stealing my employee.”
“I could help!”
“If you split the crust again, I’m reinstating your ban.”
Sirius turned to him with a wide smile. “You’re banned from pie-making?”
“It’s not official,” Remus grumbled as they swapped places. “But yes. Apparently, teaspoons and tablespoons are significantly different.”
“Yeah, honey, that’s why they have different names,” Sirius laughed, bending down for a kiss before he left them to their devices. Hopefully, the pie would still be intact when he returned.
Lyall was waiting in the living room, watching Hattie and Jules roll through the backyard in a mess of grass stains; he looked away from the window when Sirius entered, then crossed the room in three long strides and wrapped him in a hug. They were quiet for a few seconds before he stepped away and held him at arm’s length with a hand on each shoulder. “My wife is incredibly upset on your behalf.”
Sirius snorted. “I could tell.”
“We’re both very proud of you.”
His breath caught; hearing that from anyone was always overwhelming, but from someone like Lyall… “Thank you. That—that really means a lot.”
It wasn’t nearly enough words to express his gratitude (and his love, and his devotion, and his genuine relief that the Lupins thought he was good enough) but Lyall seemed to understand. With a final pat to Sirius’ shoulder, he tilted his head toward the kitchen. “You might want to rescue your husband before he gets smacked with a wooden spoon for stealing the filling.”
“Has he always done that?” Sirius asked as they walked out of the living room. “I kept thinking I was going crazy when the frosting started to disappear.”
“If it has even an ounce of sugar, it’s fair game. Jules seems to share that inclination.”
They entered the kitchen just as Remus popped an apple slice in his mouth and received a light whack to the back of the hand with Hope’s spoon. “No!”
“It’s good!” Remus protested.
“Lyall, are you done—oh, excellent!” Hope lit up when she saw them and shooed her son away from the bowl. “Sirius, please control your spouse.”
“I’ll do my best,” he laughed as Remus leaned up on his tiptoes for a kiss; his lips tasted like cinnamon, sugar, and home.
