just learned that there are a small subset of people that can see ultraviolet light.
there are also a different subset of people that can see infrared.
i want to be one of them right now
#im doing research for a story and im trying to determine how an insect-like species would form language#if they can see ultraviolet how would they describe it?#anyway bc of that i found out that some humans can actually detect colors outside the normal range#due to individual mutations#but w ultraviolet light it typically has to do with a lens issue#bc the lens typically is pretty good at filtering it out since its damaging to cells#and because of that we cant usually see the UV light itself#but ppl w lens deformities and sometimes even lens replacements can sometimes see UV light#some people describe it as a 'purpler purple' which is fascinating to me#as with infrared apparently even the average human can detect it to a certain degree#i guess wrt heat or something i didnt really understand that explanation as well#but some people can also see a little more than that#biology is so fucking cool i wish i had butterfly vision#rgb colors AND ultraviolet
