#and b) writers get a pass on keeping up with wips because they've got their own wips in their heads all the time!

I mean, sure, but why bother posting anything online if that's the case? we're fooling ourselves if we say we put the thing we ostensibly wrote 'for ourselves' online purely to be nice so someone else can maybe enjoy it and go on with their day without so much as a wave hello. it's not a matter of feeling entitled, it's just that we're humans! everyone knows that feels bad!
also, reading the notes on this post is a fucking wild ride because it continues to drive home the stark difference between my niche little femslash fandoms and the absolutely mind boggling breadth of m/m. I thought I read a lot, but y'all are really out here reading hundreds of fics a month?? how?????
but mostly the reason I'm bothering to reblog comment at all is because of this comment I saw in the notes:
like....... is there anyone else involved in this process who also have lives and limited free time? π€π€π€ whose part in the process perhaps takes up even more of that limited free time than reading does? π€π€π€π€π€π€ christ.
ao3 needs a βnotify me when this is finishedβ button. different from subscribing. i donβt have the patience for single chapter updates but what i DO have is object impermanence. i want to forget this fic exists and weeks later get hit with an email notification and ignore everything around me to immediately read 50k in one sitting
#I mean I also used to rarely read wips#but a) reading a wip for the first time in ages and commenting on it was how I met someone I've been friends with for 7 years now#and b) writers get a pass on keeping up with wips because they've got their own wips in their heads all the time!#yes this is a vaguely self serving hypocrisy but the logic checks out tyvm#and anyway my current niche is so small the entire catalog of fic is smaller than some of yalls subscription list#so wips are easier to keep up with if they even exist#I actually owe several fics comments because I mainlined them when I first got into the fandom and had a fic brewing in my head#I have the ship tag open in a phone to reread and comment when I'm on pause from writing but I haven't been on pause from writing in ages#le sigh#anyway every time I see someone call fic 'content' or treat it as such I squeeze lemon juice into their eye
