Y/n & Druig are picked to be chaperones for a school trip. Can be anything Rory's soccor game or a trip to the museums in another country. Or whatever you pick
Dad!Druig x Reader
A/N: thanks for requesting!! hope you like the quick headcanons!!
Tumblr media
"Orla you can't back out now...we leave tomorrow!," Rory groaned
"I'm sorry, Ror. If I miss one more lecture I drop a grade."
Rory closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead with the back of his palm
with Orla out as one of the chaperones for his history class weekend trip to London...that meant one thing
both of you would be there
he hurriedly walked into the kitchen to find you and Druig at the kitchen table
"Your sister told you?" you asked, looking up at his stressed face
he nodded, "Do you both have to come?" he whined
"We promise not to say anything," you said
you always said things like: "that's not how it happened?" or "I actually know that person, they didn't say that."
"We're just there to make sure no one breaks anything, see your aunt, fade into the background," Druig made an attempt to reassure him
Rory knew Druig was lying, you and him were a dynamic duo at museums, speaking up and asking questions like they haven't been there before
and he knew the girls in his class would just fawn over his father
"I swear to God, Arishem, whoever if you guys embarrass me I will move in with Orla and Apollo."
all you could do was smile at the dramatics of the 16-year-old
this boy got no peace even after you gave your word
his entire body was stiff as his class walked into the museum
he stood in the middle of his class, nervously biting the inner corner of his cheek
he spent a lot of time in the museum growing up, Sersi always brought him to work with her
"Students," his teacher announced, "welcome our tour guide for today... Sprite."
"What the hell?" Rory gasped rather loudly
everyone turned to look at him with confused expressions
"Sorry, sorry" he whispered
you and Druig kept to your word
keeping quiet even when it was really hard
you swore Sprite was taunting you with facts
Druig would bite his tongue and grip your back a little tighter
and Rory would send you a serious glance every time you opened your mouth
he was so uptight the entire time
the new exhibits passed like a blur, too focused on what story from the past would fall from his parent's lips
everyone noticed it too
"Relax, Rory," Sprite chuckled as everyone explored the Irish exhibit
"It's hard," he sighed as he sat on one of the benches, "I don't want them to embarrass me."
"Have they ever?"
"n-no," he managed
Sprite rolled her eyes, she couldn't believe she was giving advice to him
"Maybe you should go talk to them, they have so many stories."
"Yeah sure," he mumbled
Sprite looked around the room at all the 1800s paintings and artifacts
"Do you know about their time in Ireland? The dances?"
Rory's face softened, "n-no."
Sprite nudged him, forcing him off the bench
he approached the two of you timidly as you observed one of the small miniature models of a mansion
"Ehm...Mom? Dad?"
You and Druig looked up at him in slight surprise, "Yes, honey?"
"Did you live in a place like this? Sprite said something about dances?"
Druig smiled and stood up straight, motioning him to come closer
"So now ya want to hear our old stories?" he joked
"Yeah," he let out a light laugh, "I'd like to hear one."

Author’s Note: Hello!!!! I am really sorry that this part took me forever to post. The last month has kicked my ass but now everything’s a little calmer. As always, enjoy and tell me what you think! Comments, reblogs, and asks are encouraged and greatly appreciated.
When you return to Latvia nearly a day later, you’re more than eager to get back on your feet. Despite the overwhelming feeling of exhaustion running through your body, you’re glad to be back at it with Bucky and Sam. You’re somewhat rested, and you take the opportunity to visit one of the refugee camps to see if you could find any information on Donya Madani.
When you enter the camp, you try your best to keep a low profile. You don’t draw attention to yourselves and try not to ruffle any feathers.
“We should split up, cover more ground,” Zemo stated.
Bucky glares at him, shaking his head. “No. Absolutely not. You’ll just take off.”
You press a hand against Bucky’s shoulder. He looks over at you and you smile gently at him. “I’ll go with him,” you said.
His blue eyes stare into yours. It makes your heart race and your knees weak. Warmth spreads across your entire body. He doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t need to. He knows you’re more than capable of taking care of yourself and keeping a watchful eye on Zemo. It’s why he doesn’t argue.
The four of you split in two and you and Zemo begin walking in the opposite direction. You’re on high alert, watching the refugees carefully. They don’t seem too concerned with your presence and avoid you entirely when you speak and attempt to approach them about Donya Madani. Although you tried connecting with them in the native language, no one wanted to talk.
You’re silent for the most part, taking in your surroundings. You walk past a makeshift classroom and the teacher and his students hurry away from you. This wasn’t what you hoped and wasn't successful. It started to piss you off.
“Have you and Sergeant Barnes been together for long?” Zemo asked, breaking the silence between the two of you.
Your brows pinch together and you stop in your tracks. Zemo turns to look at you expectantly. You take a careful breath. The last thing you need is for Zemo to get under your skin in a place where no one trusted you and away from Sam and Bucky. You begin walking again and Zemo falls into step beside you.
“Not that it’s any of your business,” you justified with a calm tone to your voice, “but we’re not together.”
You feel Zemo’s smirk beside you as he looks over at you. You grit your teeth and squeeze the inside of your palms harshly. You can’t react. You have to lay low. Do not cause a scene. Don’t bring unwarranted attention. Do not stand out.
“But you care deeply for one another, correct?”
That much was obvious. You’ve always cared for each other. At the beginning it was because of Steve. Anyone Steve loved and cared for, by extension, you did too. It was also how you felt towards Sam when you were introduced to one another.
But something changed along the way. You sought each other out. You relied on him as he did with you. You’d grown incredibly close prior to the blip, and if it hadn’t happened, maybe things would be different. Bucky would always be there to help Sam, regardless of the indifference he shows towards him. You’re tired of fighting. It’s all you’ve ever done. You can’t do it anymore.
Bucky feels the need to repent and right his wrongs even though he was tortured and brainwashed to commit such heinous acts. He won’t stop fighting. He needs to help, to protect, to be good for the world. It’s all he’s ever wanted and it had been taken from him for so long.
You nod in reply. You say nothing else. You weren’t about to spill your secrets to the man that brought Bucky incredible pain. He is not your friend and you don’t owe him anything.
Thankfully, Zemo says nothing and you eventually regroup in the courtyard of the camp. You’d come up with nothing valuable and neither had Sam and Bucky. You would be leaving empty handed.
You watch Zemo approach a young girl as you stand beside Bucky. You feel his gaze against the side of your face. You don’t say anything. You’re still reeling from your conversation with Zemo.
Your heart beat picks up and the stress you feel gathers on your shoulders. Bucky whispers your name and this time you turn to look at him.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
No, you wanted to say. He made your mind a jumbled mess. You couldn’t think clearly with him so close to you. He makes your body tingle with want and desire. You wanted James Buchanan Barnes to ruin you completely, if only for a night, consequences be damned.
You swallow the lump in your throat and push down the desire in your chest. The corners of your mouth twitch upwards in a soft smile. You nod, looking back over as Zemo rejoins the group.
“I’m fine,” you said with as much conviction as you could muster and take a step away from him.
Lie, you hissed to yourself. You’ve never lied so blatantly to Bucky before. It made your chest ache painfully.
What could you say? You make me feel like a fool. No one’s made me feel like a fool, not even Steve. But you didn’t want Steve. You didn’t desire him the way you do Bucky, dare you say loved him in the way you think you love Bucky.
Your mind races with imagination. The feeling of his hands on your waist. His lips pressed against the junction of your neck and shoulder. The contrast between his warm, calloused right hand and the coolness of his metal arm trailing along your body and pulling your clothes off.
You needed to get away from him, and fast. You can barely breathe with him beside you.
You’re the first to leave the camp and Sam, Bucky, and Zemo trail after you as they bicker at one another. Yet again, Zemo was one step ahead and holding the information hostage.
As you make your way back to the townhouse, you freeze in the middle of the street. The uniform is unmistakable. You’d seen it on posters, on television, and even on public buses. John Walker, the man you had no desire to meet, was approaching you with his buddy right beside him.
His voice thunders in the street, causing locals to stop what they’re doing to look at the new Captain America. He stops in front of you and looks you up and down. Just as you were sizing him up, he was doing the same to you.
“Is this the reason why you won’t return any of my messages? You’re too busy slumming it with Wilson and Barnes, as well as a known terrorist? I thought you knew better.” Walker asked.
You roll your eyes and cross your arms over your chest. “I’m on vacation,” you said like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Just so happens that Sam and Bucky are in town at the same time I am. Crazy coincidence, right?”
“Watch your mouth, Walker,” Bucky growled at the man.
John’s eyes narrow as he stares at you, ignoring Bucky completely. You’re being childish and petty but you don’t care. Walker is an asshole. His eyes challenge yours, but you square your shoulders and stare him down. He doesn’t scare you. You don’t answer to him.
“We’ll take it from here. Zemo is coming with us.”
“No, he’s not,” Sam said. “We have somewhere to be and Zemo is the only one who can take us there. This is the only time that we may be able to reason with Karli, she lost the person closest to her.”
You resume your trek up the street and the boys fall close behind you. Bucky’s quick to join your side and Walker runs ahead to stop you from moving any further. His gaze flickers between you, Sam, and Bucky. You roll your eyes and let out a scoff.
“You’re really going to let your partner do this, Bucky?” Walker asked him, looking between the two men.
Bucky and Walker bicker back and forth and you and Zemo slip between them when you notice the same girl he had spoken to earlier. You follow her quietly through a back door and slip inside the building. You watch Sam disappear around the corner and you lean against a metal beam in the boiler room. You pick at your nails and ignore Walker pacing the length of the room, looking over at Bucky every now and then as he guards the door.
Walker huffs impatiently and takes a step towards the door. You stand up and Bucky shoves Walker back. You swallow the lump in your throat as the two men stare at one another. At the mention of the serum in Bucky’s veins, rage runs through you. He didn’t ask to be the Winter Soldier. He didn’t ask for the serum. The serum had taken so much from him. It’s not something that he’s proud of.
“Don’t you dare say that,” you hissed at him, shoving him away from Bucky. You were so close to clocking him in the jaw. “You have no idea how much he has lost because of the serum.”
There’s a glint in his eyes and he looks between you and Bucky. “What are you, his guard dog?”
“I can say the same thing about Lemar.”
“We’ve waited around long enough. It’s time to go.”
He shoves himself past Bucky and Lemar does the same. You and Bucky run after them into the main room where Karli and Sam are. Her brown eyes widen in panic and betrayal as she looks from Sam back to John. Sam attempts to reason with her again and you run straight between them in an attempt to block John’s attack.
Karli’s super strength sends you and Sam flying into the nearby table and she takes off. Bucky runs after her and you scramble to your feet. You split off from Sam and back track into the boiler room. The handcuffs are empty and you curse loudly before racing down a flight of stairs. Your heart feels as if it’s beating out of your chest and the adrenaline rushes through you. The ache in your shoulder is the least of your concerns as you creep up to the basement door.
With a gun in one hand, you reach for the handle and twist the knob. It doesn’t budge under the pressure of your hand as you attempt to jiggle it open. The sound of gunfire rings through your ears on the other side of the door. You point the gun on the lock and fire until there’s a hole in the door. You shove your body against the door and it caves under your weight.
With your gun raised, you climb down the steps before relenting at the sight of Zemo unconscious on the floor with John looming over him. You tuck your gun in the back of your jeans and look over the room. Shattered glass vials are all over the floor and you glance at Walker suspiciously.
“What happened?” you asked.
“Zemo shot Karli and destroyed the vials that contained the serum,” he answered before turning his back on you and climbing up the stairs.
Sam and Bucky join you several minutes later. You stare up at them against a cold metal crate beside the unconscious Baron. Bucky crouches in front of you and looks at you carefully.
“You okay? What happened?” he asked.
You nod your head and tell them what supposedly happened while you were attempting to get to Zemo and John Walker before anything worse happened. It made you feel uneasy and you have a gut feeling that Walker was lying to you.
“Do you believe him?” Sam questioned, looking over at Zemo.
You shook your head. You run a hand through your hair and let out a sigh. “No. I don’t trust him. Something about the way he looked at the broken vials makes me nervous. I don’t think he was telling me the whole truth.”
Silence falls between the three of you before Sam speaks again. “Let’s get out of here. We’ll regroup back at the house.”
You nod and get back on your feet. Sam and Bucky pull Zemo from the floor and drag him out of the basement out of the camp to the main street. You return to the house and Zemo is placed on the nearest couch. Bucky disappears out the door once more and you join Sam at the kitchen counter. You fish around the liquor cabinet and pour two glasses of whiskey for you and Sam.
You take the time to shake off the stress and anxiety in your shoulders and enjoy the brief silence covering the room.
It doesn’t last long, and soon Zemo begins to stir back into consciousness. He groans loudly and grasps at his head. Sam wordlessly grabs an ice pack from the fridge and hands both the pack and the glass of whiskey over to him.
You sit down in one of the loveseats and kick your feet up on the coffee table. Within seconds, Zemo starts spewing his self righteous bullshit.
“Jesus Christ, do you ever shut up?” you snapped, downing the rest of your whiskey.
Sam smiles and a low chuckle from Zemo fills the room. You sigh softly and ignore him once more. Bucky returns several minutes later and practically rips off his leather jacket. It makes your cheeks flush and you watch him pour himself his own drink into a glass.
“There’s something wrong about Walker,” he said with a huff.
“You don’t say,” Sam replied with a smirk.
“Well, I know a crazy when I see one, because I am crazy.” He takes a sip of his whiskey.
You bark out a laugh and Sam does the same. “Can’t argue with that.”
There’s a beat of silence that falls over the room and Bucky sighs deeply. “You shouldn’t have given him the shield.”
You jump to your feet and step between the two men. Your hand presses against his chest. “You know he didn’t give the shield to him, Bucky.”
A flash of hurt and anger appears across his face. You had never been on the receiving end of his hurt and anger before. It makes your chest ache as you look at him. He takes a step away from you and glares. Your heart leaps inside your throat and you attempt to reach for him again. He pushes your hand away. He had never rejected you so blatantly before.
“How can you say that? After all that Steve’s done for you and you’re so casual and flippant about the shield! How dare you!” he yelled at you, his voice thundering off the walls and into your ears. It makes you wince and you’re fighting back tears.
“He’s gone!” you shouted back. “Why should I care about something that was left behind by someone who abandoned me!”
His eyes darken as he stares at you. He shakes his head in disbelief and a bitter laugh leaves his throat. “Sam should have never asked you to come.”
“Yeah, maybe you’re right, but I won’t abandon Sam the way that Steve abandoned me. I’m willing to sacrifice what needs to be done, even if it makes me unhappy. I’m not a coward. I don’t want to be here more than you do,” you hissed, your body filling with rage. “I’m more than happy to leave.”
“Good! Then go!”
“Fine!”
Just as you’re about to gather your things and storm out of the house, the doors burst open and John and Lemar storm inside. He points to Zemo and says, “He’s coming with us. Hand him over.”
Sam and John argue with one another and you step away from Bucky. You’re pissed and hurt and you have no energy to join their bitching contest. You cross your arms over your chest and just seconds pass before the Dora Milaje walk through the doors.
You watch with a smug smirk as Walker reaches a hand out to Ayo. You hold your breath as he places a hand on her shoulder. A split second passes and John and Lemar are both getting their asses kicked. You stand out of the way and gleam as they struggle against the Dora Milaje. One of the spears slices through the air and pins the shield against the kitchen table.
“Looking strong, John!” Bucky exclaimed.
If you weren’t pissed at him, you would’ve laughed. Sam says his name disapprovingly and Bucky rolls his eyes as he attempts to stop Ayo from doing anymore damage. Sam soon follows suit and you sigh before joining them.
You had spent several long months training alongside the Dora Milaje when you were on the run after the Accords. They had helped you perfect your technique and made you an ever better fighter. You block the jabs of the spear with the outside of your forearms and quickly side step out of the way as one of the women aims at your gut.
With all things considered, you were fairing far better than both Sam and Bucky combined, and you hadn’t been keeping up with your training regiment.
Another spear nearly sideswipes your face and your reflexes take over as you spin out of the way. You’re growing tired and out of breath, and they still haven't been able to get you to yield.
Soon you were overpowered and you fell on your back with a loud crash. The wind is knocked out of you and you see stars at the corners of your eyes. Your head turns towards the bathroom doors and you can see an outline of a sewage drain. Zemo had escaped in the middle of the fight.
John and Lemar are the first to leave, followed by the Dora Milaje. Bucky lends a hand down to you and you slap it away. You could be petty and angry too. You pretend not to notice the flash of hurt and surprise on his face as he adjusts to his metal arm again with a roll of his shoulder.
“You okay?” Sam asked you.
You grunt in response. “Fine.”
“Let’s go.”
You leave the house and trail behind Sam and Bucky as you walk down a number of streets with no particular destination. You’re silent and fuming as you listen to Sam talk on the phone. He stops up ahead and glances down at his phone.
“That was Sarah. Karli threatened my nephews. She wants to meet and said for me to come alone,” Sam said, staring at the coordinates on the screen.
“We’re coming with you,” Bucky said. There was no room for discussion and Sam didn’t argue.
You’re nearly out of breath when you arrive at the correct coordinates. You attempt to control your breathing as you creep up the stairs with Sam in front and Bucky behind. Sam yells for Karli and she steps in front of one of the white pillars. You stand beside Bucky just far enough that it doesn’t make it seem like you’re a threat. Her eyes flicker over to the two of you before returning to look back at Sam.
You shift nervously on your feet and the sound of Sharon’s voice rings through your ears. She had found John. Karli takes off and it takes a split second for Bucky to run after her. You cling to Sam and he takes off in the air.
“Brace yourself!” Sam shouted at you.
You cling to his back and use his shoulder for cover as he breaks through the glass ceiling. You shake off your legs and Sam squeezes your arm reassuringly.
Suddenly a body flies through the closest door and hits the wall with a crack. To your own horror, John walks up to the man, a man that has super soldier strength, like it’s nothing. It scares the shit out of you as you watch with wide eyes as Walker bends a steel pipe in half before sending the Flag Smasher to the ground once more.
You glance over at Sam and he’s just staring at John. “What did you do?”
You both know that you didn’t need him to answer to come to the right conclusion. Somehow John had managed to snag a vial of the serum. You were right back at the memorial. Something was wrong and it had been John all along. He had knocked out Zemo and stole the last vial before it could be destroyed.
You feel a sense of responsibility for it. If you had reacted quicker than you did down in the basement, maybe then Walker wouldn’t actually have the serum running through him. You could’ve stopped him and you didn’t, and it was all because of a locked door. You could hold your own against John without the serum, but now that he has it and he’s always so full of rage, you don’t know if you would be able to. He had the strength to kill you.
You follow the two men in a daze in an attempt to find Lemar. Everything was quiet and still. It sends you on edge. You step into an empty workshop. Tables are flipped on their sides, chairs everywhere, and scraps of paper and wood litter the floor.
Sam pushes you out of the way as a Flag Smasher jumps from the overhead balcony straight towards you. You stumble slightly before regaining your bearings and joining the fight. Your body screams in protest but you push through it. With every kick and punch finding its intended target, you’ve lived to see another second.
One of them kicks you in the backside, cornering you with another partner. The force of the kick nearly knocks the breath out of you. You shake it off and dodge a stab to the face. You quickly disarm the knife from your opponent and use their surprise to your advantage.
You may not have super serum in your blood, but you put up one hell of a fight. You easily avoided and stepped away as your attacker spins in the air. You wait for an opening and kick your leg up high, sending them backwards. You throw the knife down just inches from their head as a warning.
As you turn on your back, you quickly stumble as another opponent reaches to stab you. Bucky comes barreling in with an iron fist and the man goes flying and crashes into a nearby table. You have a split second to react as Bucky drags you back on your feet.
You don’t know how much longer you’d be able to fight, especially defensively. If any of the Flag Smashers noticed that you were favoring your left side more than your right, they would use it to their advantage and kill you. Your right shoulder throbs and you taste blood and sweat on your tongue.
You spin on your heels as you watch Karli barrel towards you, nearly taking your head off. You were tired, but you were still fast on your feet.
It feels like it happens in slow motion. Lemar miraculously appears and throws Karli off balance. For a brief moment, he was holding his own.
Until he wasn’t.
Karli punches him with so much force that the sound of the pillar cracking underneath his weight vibrates through your ears. Everything stops, even Karli and her followers stare at the man pinned against the pillar. A number of sounds and voices fill your ears as you watch John crouch beside his partner to try and find a pulse. He shakes his head but nothing happens. There’s no response.
Lemar’s gone. Lemar is dead.
Sam nearly drags you with him as John jumps out of the building at the closest window. Your legs burn, screaming for rest as you run alongside Bucky and Sam through the building towards the growing sounds of screaming in the courtyard.
Bucky stops you and grabs your hand, squeezing it tightly. There was nothing you could do but watch as John publicly executed someone with the shield. A shield that used to mean so much to the world was now and forever tainted. It’s legacy is gone.
The civilians that had gathered starred in complete awe with their phones out as they witnessed Captain America slaughter a man that wasn’t responsible for Lemar’s death.
He just stares off into the crowd, breathing hard and heavy as the blood from his victim stains the shield. He takes off, running away from the crowd, presumably to get away from Sam and Bucky.
You take a step, intending to run after him, but Sam stops you. “We’ll get him later. Right now we need to talk to the police and paramedics. If the countless videos aren’t enough proof of what John did was wrong, our statements will.”
You nod but don’t say anything as exhaustion takes over. Your knees buckle and Bucky nearly carries you to the nearest ambulance. A blanket is wrapped around you and you’re given a bottle of water. Bucky leans against the ambulance door and your eyes watch another team of paramedics take care of the body underneath the statue.
He’s placed on to a stretcher and a cloth is draped over his body to give the illusion of privacy, even in death, despite the number of people that watch.
A police officer approaches the ambulance you’re sitting in and asks if you’re ready to give a statement. You nod as you gulp down your water. You tell the officer everything that happened that led to the tragic event that followed just several minutes earlier. You leave out any mentions of the serum. The US government would find out soon enough.
The officer thanks you for your time as another one approaches to take Bucky’s official statement. His is nearly identical to yours, apart from the times that you had split up and separated over the last two hours. He’s gruff and fuming and his arms are crossed over his chest. If you weren’t still angry at him, you would tease him, but now wasn’t the time. The officer thanks him again before scurrying off.
Sam reappears and adjusts the gear on his arms before shaking his arms. “There’s a ping on Walker’s location. He’s at some abandoned warehouse in a wooded area in the outskirts of the city.”
You nod and slip the blanket off your back. Your exhaustion could wait. You jump from the ambulance and Bucky rests a hand on your shoulder. You quickly brush it off.
“You better think long and hard before you open your mouth, Barnes. If it’s anything other than “you’re coming with us,” keep it to yourself,” you snapped at him.
He stares at you with wide eyes and parted lips, and does exactly as you asked. He says nothing.
You walk in silence towards the outskirts of the city to John’s location. Your muscles burn with each step and you’re struggling to breathe, but you push through it. You have to for Sam and Bucky’s sake.
You hold your breath as you enter the warehouse. John’s back faces you and Sam throws an arm out in front of you to stop you from getting any closer. He turns to look at the three of you and you rock back on your heels.
“You don’t want to do this,” John said. His voice is casual and condescending.
Bucky rolls his shoulders. “Yeah, we do.”
The shield flies through the air just inches from your head. You double back as Bucky and Sam tag team against Walker.
Your eyes widen in horror at the sight and sound of Bucky crashing into one of the electrical beams. He remains still and it sends you into a panic. You’d never seen him like that before.
You run straight towards Walker. You use your weight and momentum to leap up and choke him with your thighs, a move Natasha had taught you all those years ago. His fingers dig into the tops of your thighs with all his strength. Your own hands are too busy scratching and squeezing at his throat.
Walker throws his back into a steel pole and it makes you lose your grip on him. The force of the impact sends you crumbling to the ground. Now it hurts to breathe.
You land with a loud crash. You’re in a daze and can barely see straight. Black specks and stars cover the corners of your eyes as you fight off unconsciousness.
John stands above you, his arm pulled back with the shield in hand. He was going to kill you, just like he did to the Flag Smasher, and there’s nothing you could do to stop him.
You’re too weak and injured to fight. You’re on the brink of physical exhaustion. You can’t mask the pain any longer. You’re going to die before you have the chance to tell Bucky how you feel.
You throw your hands up, a futile attempt to stop the shield from blowing your brains out.
Sam knocks John off balance just as the shield moves towards your head. Sam uses the strength of his wings and jet pack to kick John in the stomach while Bucky knocks him from behind. For the first time, John’s on the floor.
Sam and Bucky use all their combined strength to rip the shield from Walker’s grasp. There’s a loud crack that fills your ears and he howls in pain as his hand loosens around the shield.
He swings at Bucky with his uninjured arm and Bucky punches him right in the face. This time John doesn’t get up and Bucky grabs the shield and tosses it beside Sam’s head as he lays on the floor near you. Several silent seconds pass as the three of you catch your breath and attempt to regain your bearings.
Bucky crouches in front of you and gingerly threads his fingers through the hair at the back of your head. You’re not bleeding anywhere on the top of your head.
Although you couldn’t see straight, you know his deep blue eyes find yours. Your head spins and you feel like you’re about to puke.
“The shield,” you slurred, “did you get it?”
His soft laughter fills your ears. He wipes away the blood collecting under his nose. “Yes.”
You hum in approval and your vision begins to clear up. You blink rapidly and Bucky carefully wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you to your feet.
Yes, you were still mad at him, but the way he held you against his side as you walked out of the warehouse made your stomach flip. It nearly makes you forget about your argument just hours earlier.

Sometimes, you could still remember how happy you’d been when Oikawa and Iwaizumi first took you home.
It helped that the shelter was such a bleak place to be, after a few weeks. It wasn’t unbearable – the volunteers were nice, you were fed twice a day, and there were plenty of other animals to play with, but the older hybrids were always so stand-offish and everything seemed just a little duller than it should’ve, the ill-fitting clothes a little too grey and the walls a little too plain, a shade of white that seemed to make your eyes burn if you lingered on it for more than a minute. You couldn’t complain, but they’d been a splash of color, in comparison, Oikawa, his smile brighter than the sun, and Iwaizumi, scowling and glowering and trying to pretend he didn’t know the strange man trying to fit his hand through the thin bars of your kennel. They’d been new. They’d been there for you, and you should get to feel happy about that.
You’d just been so excited, that first day. You’d tripped over your words when Oikawa asked for your name, laughed a little too loudly at every passing comment and half-hearted joke, and when Iwaizumi finally relented to ‘looking at’ the paperwork, your tail had wagged so violently, you’re sure animals on the other side of the shelter were able to hear it beating against the concrete. You’d wanted to go home with Oikawa, who pet you so gently and spoke to you so softly, and you didn’t mind Iwaizumi, even if he was a little more reserved than his partner. You’d wanted to find a home, one you wouldn’t have to leave. You’d been so, so happy.
You were still happy, in a certain way. Not as happy as you had been, but happier than you ever were in the shelter. Happier than you would’ve been. That was what Oikawa said, at least.
You were happier with than you could ever be, with anyone else.
Some days, you tried to believe it, too. Sleeping on his bed helped, his mattress softer than the thin mat you’d been given at the shelter, his sheets warmer, creating a nest of fleece and silk and wool you couldn’t help but fall into. Save for Oikawa’s shallow breaths, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, the house was quiet, the road outside empty, the sun just barely beginning to rise. Despite Iwaizumi’s noticeable absence, it was cozy, homey in a way you’d craved every time another hybrid was adopted, every time you had to watch—
“I thought dogs weren’t allowed on the bed.”
The bedroom creaked swung open, Iwaizumi’s voice echoing through the small space. Immediately, you pushed away the memory, knowing better than to linger on things like that. You should be happy. Neither of them liked it very much, when you weren’t.
He must’ve been jogging, a fresh towel slung over his neck and his forehead still dripping with sweat, but Iwaizumi’s tone was jovial, energetic, that kind of lax, serene playfulness Iwaizumi seemed to exude, whenever he wasn’t forcing himself to stay on-edge. You squirmed, attempting to sit up and greet him properly, but the arm snaked around your midriff only held you tighter, pulling you in Oikawa as he groaned, his eyes only flickering open for a second before promptly clenching shut again. “You’re making my puppy nervous,” He mumbled, still obviously groggy. “Go away. You gave up your spot ‘nd you don’t get it back.”
There was plenty of room, really. You usually slept between the two, letting Oikawa cling to something warn while Iwaizumi scratched idly at the base of your ears, but still, you didn’t hesitate to wriggle out of Oikawa’s hold when Iwaizumi whistled, the simplest out of his many commands. You didn’t waste time, clambering to the edge of the bed, Iwaizumi watching on with a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, only growing more apparent as you came to kneel in front of him. Despite your stiffness and your downcast gaze, your tail swept over the sheets lazily, a quiet show of your muted fondness that never seemed to go overlooked. He only laughed, a large hand coming up to ruffle your hair before he caught you by the chin, tilting your head back just far enough to press his lips against your forehead. It was a familiar display of affection. It was a display you really, really liked, if you were being honest. The volunteers were always blunt, at the shelter, too afraid of getting attached to be so liberal with their encouragement. Iwaizumi didn’t have to worry about that, though, and neither did Oikawa. You were theirs. As far as they were concerned, you were going to stay theirs, too.
The thought should’ve comforted you than it did, but you tried not to worry about that.
“Couldn’t get you to wake up, this morning.” He wasn’t whispering, but his voice was low enough to make the conversation feel private. Not conspiratorial, but personal in an intimate way, just bordering on uncomfortable. “Hybrids are supposed to be lively, aren’t they? Are you getting lazy on me?”
“’m not a dog,” You mumbled, the dismissal half-hearted. Iwaizumi was the stern one, the mean one. He knew how to take care of you, he knew what you needed and how you’d act, but he chose to get the details wrong, anyway. “Tooru lets me sleep in, and you run too fast. ‘s not fun.”
There was a pause, and he dropped his smirk. Instantly, you realized your mistake.
You moved to correct yourself, but a sudden pressure stopped you, two hands landing on your shoulders and a chest coming to press against your back, Oikawa’s taller form quickly eclipsing your own. He had to lean down just to nuzzle against the side of your neck, a throaty whine quickly filling the silence. “Puppy’s learning, Hajime. That’s a hard thing to do with such a shitty teacher.” You flinched back, your pointed ears dropping to your scalp, but Iwaizumi let the insult slide with a stifled huff. That was what Oikawa seemed to expect, remaining just as casual as he went on. “C’mon, you remember what you have to call us, don’t you?”
If it hadn’t been for Iwaizumi’s hand, you might’ve looked away. You wanted to, even if you really weren’t sure why, just yet. “Of course, master.”
This time, Iwaizumi sighed, the sound contented, pleased, proud in a way that made you proud, too. He’d never told you what it meant, and you’d never thought to ask, but Iwaizumi liked it. He was nicer when you used it, his touch just a little softer as he cupped your cheek, Oikawa’s laugh just a little louder, his arms falling back to your waist while his chin came to rest on your shoulder, his attention now refocused on his partner. “And you call me a pervert, Iwa-chan. At least I’ve never resorted to something so cliché.”
More words you didn’t know, more jokes you didn’t think were funny, but you couldn’t bring yourself to mind. You concentrated on staying still, instead, on not disturbing the happy little world Oikawa and Iwaizumi had made for themselves and been kind enough to bring you into, too. They rarely fought, but you still liked it when they got along, when Iwaizumi pushed Oikawa’s hair out of his face, when Oikawa giggled and melted into his palm. You were happy, when they did. You were the happiest when their attention was on each other, rather than you.
They kissed each other differently than they kissed you. Lips slotted against lips, eyes fluttering shut, a breathy ‘shut up’ and a mumbled ‘make me’ in response – soft, tender little interactions that you tried not to watch, from your spot on Oikawa’s lap. You tried not to, but you didn’t have much time to distract yourself, not before Oikawa’s fingers brushed against the inside of your thigh, not before you were brought back to stubborn reality by a startling, throaty noise, something been a cry and a groan. Something that spurred Iwaizumi forward, despite how calm he’d been earlier. Something that made him just a little less inclined to being gentle, and a little more prone to getting… ‘carried away’, as Oikawa liked to say.
You almost made a run for it. You could apologize later, but Oikawa was quick to stop you, nipping at the edge of your jaw as his grip tightened, calloused fingertips soon digging into the meat of your thigh. “Puppy wants to play, too.” It was a drawl, this time, dragged out and melodic, a lethargic kind of inflection that made your heart beat just a little faster, that made you curl into Oikawa the moment Iwaizumi’s eyes shifted towards you. “You’re not gonna leave (Y/n) out, right, Iwa-chan?”
Iwaizumi didn’t kiss you like he kissed Oikawa. He gave Oikawa a chance to reciprocate, he pulled away when Oikawa couldn’t breathe, but he wasn’t as considerate with you. He probably just didn’t know he had to be. You were a hybrid, you were supposed to be tough, but you didn’t feel tough as his lips crashed into yours, as he caught you by the collar of your shirt, as he pulled you closer and closer and closer until you were forced to shove at his shoulders, to thrash against Oikawa, to misbehave. You didn’t like misbehaving. You really, really didn’t like being bad, but…
You liked the way Iwaizumi touched you even less.
Oikawa wasn’t any better. Even after Iwaizumi relented, his grin suddenly replaced by a small, stern scowl, Oikawa kept going, barely bothering to glace up while his mouth trailed along your jugular, the crook of your neck, the dip of your shoulder, leaving sore, tender bruises in his wake. Even now, they hurt, and they’d hurt more in the morning, but Oikawa didn’t seem deterred by the way you whimpered, how you leaned away from his touch. You weren’t sure why you thought he would be. It wasn’t like he’d ever tried to stop himself, before.
“Someone’s fussy,” Iwaizumi called, speaking past you. Oikawa only hummed in response, letting Iwaizumi go on uninterrupted. “Don’t tell me you have a favorite. It’d be a shame if we needed to teach you that lesson again.”
“No, it’s just—” Denying it came instinctually, but so did faltering, cutting yourself short when you realized he wouldn’t like what you had to say. It felt made your skin crawl, when he touched you like this, when your owners looked at you like that. It didn’t feel bad, not at first, and you weren’t sure if it was wrong, but it felt like something you weren’t supposed to do, even if you couldn’t put your finger on why. “It’s not that,” You tried, and you weren’t lying. You’d be shying away from Oikawa, too, if you could. “I just don’t… It hurts when you—”
“When did you get so spoiled, cutie?” If Oikawa was still half-asleep, you couldn’t tell. He sounded lucid, perfectly awake and aware, perfectly able to make something in your stomach twist, a tight knot forming in the back of your throat. Being spoiled was a bad thing. You didn’t want to be bad. “It makes us so happy when you play along. I thought you wanted to make us happy, but…” When he trailed off, it was deliberate, a short silence punctuated by a click of his tongue. “I could’ve been wrong. Maybe our next puppy will be a little more grateful.”
They warned you about this, at the shelter. Bad owners, the volunteers said, owners who aren’t caretakers, owners who aren’t satisfied with the kind of companionship hybrids are meant to provide. They didn’t treat their pets with care, and in a way, neither did Iwaizumi and Oikawa. You never felt like they cared when you were pinned to the bed, when your head felt so full and your body felt so hot and all you could do was hope it’d end, eventually. They were bad owners, even if they weren’t bad most of the time.
But, if you said that, if you tried to run away, if you cried and growled and lashed out like you used to, like you had when Iwaizumi and Oikawa first brought you home, you’d be a bad pet. You’d be the bad one, and you knew what happened to bad hybrids. There’d been plenty of them at the shelter – dogs who couldn’t bite and cats without their claws, bad hybrids, mutilated hybrids. You didn’t want to be bad.
You really, really didn’t want to be bad.
It would hurt. You already knew it would, and there wouldn’t be a minute of it you genuinely enjoyed, but that didn’t really matter. You threw yourself towards Iwaizumi regardless, wrapping your arms around his neck and burying your face in his chest, wasting the distance you’d worked so hard to create. Iwaizumi was caught off guard, but he managed to recover quickly, a breath of a chuckle slipping past his lips, the sound barely muffled by your proximity.
“I’m sorry!” It was a desperate, fractured cry, but neither seemed to mind, Oikawa cooing as he rubbed circles into your hips and Iwaizumi just shaking his head, more a sign of disregard than disapproval. It didn’t matter. You’d already disappointed him. You were supposed to make him happy, and you hadn’t, you’d failed to. It was only fair that he got to disappoint you a little, too. “I didn’t mean it, please, I don’t want to go back to the—”
“It’s alright,” Iwaizumi soothed, as you broke into hysterics. “Tooru just likes being mean, ‘s all. You’re not going anywhere, even if you do still need some training.”
“Obviously. Iwa-chan’s too much of a softie for that.” Iwaizumi’s sympathy was minimal, manufactured, but Oikawa’s was practically nonexistent, his faux concern fading into a timbre of pleasant, numbing satisfaction. It was nice, how awful he could be at holding a grudge, but for whatever reason, you couldn’t find it in yourself to be very thankful. “But, I can’t stay mad at our puppy, ‘specially when you’re so timid. We just can’t trust anyone else to take care of you, not when you’re so easy to scare.”
You could’ve said something. You didn’t think you were timid, but you didn’t correct him, not as he pawed at your waist, not as Iwaizumi’s fingers slipped under the hem of your shirt, not as your voice hitched in your throat and you lost your chance entirely. It was alright, though. This was for the best. This was good.
They’d taken such good care of you, at first. They’d made you so happy. They still made you happy, sometimes, and if you tried hard enough, you could make them happy, too.
Hopefully, if you succeeded, they’d stop trying to make you so miserable.

———————————————————————
The familiar echo of the Hogwarts bell never failed to make you jump out of your skin. Especially when you were currently eyeing a class full of students in eerie silence, broken only by the occasional drop of a quill. Their practice exam required lack of noise to the point where you swore you could hear the movements of your ribs as you inhaled and exhaled.
The ringing sound echoed throughout the class for a short moment, the students in front of you all placing their quills down and forming a line towards your desk, their parchment in hand and some of their faces rather sullen. It was only a practice exam, but the real deal was coming up in a few weeks and revisions were taking up a majority of their free time. You couldn’t tell if their expressions were from the work they just did or from the lack of sleep.
You remembered your exam days at Hogwarts. Long, dreary nights in the common room by the fire until the sun came up, your eyes burning out of your scalp from reading scribbles and notes all night long. Those really were the days, weren’t they?
“I don’t think I did so well, Professor,” one of your students, a fourth year Hufflepuff, said with a defeated tone to his voice, “I couldn’t remember the proper spell.”
You had found it rather odd that for a Charms class, the students had to do a written practice exam. It wasn’t your decision — but you surely questioned it.
“It’s alright, Edwards,” you grinned back, “It’s not the final thing. This will only prepare you for the one you take in two weeks. Remember, that one is a performance exam. If you’ve got your wand movements down, you’ll be all set.”
The boy nodded, no trace of a smile on his face as he turned away and trudged out of the class, his overly heavy backpack hanging off of his shoulder.
A frown formed on your lips as the next student walked towards your desk, a confident smile on her face as she handed you her exam paper, “Have a good day, Professor!”
You were about to wish her a good day in return, but a figure by the door caught your attention instead.
Fred Weasley — or, rather, known to his students as Professor Weasley — stood with his hands in his pockets, his button up shirt tucked tightly into his slacks. His hair was short, standing up and looking soft as ever.
He shot you a quick wink, causing you to shake your head with a small laugh before you returned to collecting exams. You couldn’t give away that you were, indeed, dating a fellow professor. You were sure, due to the countless times you’ve popped in and out of each other’s classes, that some of them were suspicious. But you could hardly think about that too much without getting paranoid.
Your students filed out of the classroom one by one, each of them excited to finally be on lunch break. You could hear a few of them mutter a quick ‘good afternoon, Professor Weasley’ as they passed by him in the doorway, none of them striking any sort of conversation, much to your pleasure.
“And what can I help you with?” you grinned, standing up from your chair and placing a clip around the stack of papers, sitting them down in the corner of your desk so you could remember to take them with you and look at them in your office later in the evening. You much preferred to do your grading and marking at night — you felt much more ‘in the zone,’ so to speak.
He walked over to you, hands still in his pockets, “What? Can’t pay my girl a visit during breaks?”
You scoffed, taking out a large stack of paper from your desk drawer and preparing for the class of sixth years you had after your break. Fred was inching closer to you with each passing second, taking strides with his long legs as if time was running out and he was trying to get to you as soon as possible without running. You stifled a laugh at his movements.
“Considering no one knows I’m your girl, I’d say no,” you replied, giving him a small smirk, “We don’t want to get caught like last time do we?”
You mentally cringed, thinking back to when fellow professor Neville Longbottom caught you and Fred at the Hogwarts staff Christmas party, your bodies nearly flushed to each other and his head dipping down to whisper in your ear. That might not be a giveaway, but considering the nature of Fred’s words and the way your eyes grew wide as you gave him a slap across the chest, it was a bit of a statement. Neville had asked you that night if anything was going on between you two, to which you replied ‘it’s late, I need to leave.’
“Well, it would be a shame for the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher to be dating the Charms teacher,” he said, a fake grimace on his face, “You’re only the most brilliant person in this entire school. I would be so ashamed if people knew. The highest held Professor, me, dating you, the lowly Charms teacher — a tragedy, really.”
“Oh, excuse me,” you placed a hand over your chest, stepping closer to him and leaning against the edge of your desk, “A shame, you say? I’ll have you know people much prefer my class to yours, anyways. Actually, just this morning, a group of Hufflepuffs told me they liked me best.”
The corner of his lip curved up into a smirk, leaning closer and wrapping his arms around your waist, his hips leaning against yours. You felt his hands slide lower down your back, giving your bottom a quick squeeze.
“Hands off, Freddie,” you poked him in the chest, “This relationship has now become a competition.”
He pursed his lips, “Well, can the academic competition start tomorrow after we perform the, to kindly put it, physical competition in my room tonight.”
You slid away from him, shaking your head, “You are unbelievable.”
“Well, believe it, love,” even though you weren’t facing him, you could hear the smirk in his voice, “This is all yours.”
“Uh, Professor Y/L/N?”
You spun on the spot, colour draining completely from your face. You heard Fred let out an awkward cough, facing the doorway where someone now stood. One of the students from your previous class was standing awkwardly, books in her arms and a confused look on her face.
“Oh, hello, Miss Myers,” you sighed, running a hand down your face, “Professor Weasley, do you mind giving us a moment?” Your cheeks felt like they were on fire, and the temperature in the room was now a million degrees warmer than it previously was.
Fred grumbled a quick ‘of course,’ and made his way out of the room, turning to give you a wide-eyed expression before closing the door behind him. You let out a deep sigh, falling back into your chair, tossing your hair over your shoulder and looking over at your student.
“Did I interrupt something?” she asked, clearly fighting a grin.
You waved your hand, “No! No,” you tried your best to act nonchalant, letting your student take a seat in front of you, “So, what can I help you with?”
She began expressing her worries for the upcoming exam, all the while you tried giving her the best tips and advice on how to study her charms carefully and safely. You couldn’t count the number of times students had tried their spells outside of the class and had something go horribly wrong. No one wanted to deal with that again.
Though, you kept wondering what she meant by ‘interrupting something.’
You knew that she didn’t mean it in an accusatory manner — you weren’t all cozied up to Fred when she walked in. She couldn’t have seen anything, could she? Even if she did, who would she tell? Headmistress McGonagall was well aware of your relationship with Fred. But she was the only one who knew. You didn’t want to even think about the rumours that would spread if word broke out about your — to put it scandalously — affair.
You honestly weren’t sure what was holding you back from just announcing it. If McGonagall approved, what’s the worst that could happen?
“Thanks for the help, Professor,” Miss Myers’ voice cut your internal rambling short, causing you to shake your head.
“No problem, my door is always open,” you grinned, motioning your hand in the direction of the door. She gave you a bright grin and picked up her backpack, turning to give you a little wave before making her way out of the classroom, once again, the door shutting closed behind her.
A loud groan left your lips before you dropped your head, letting your forehead smack loudly against the hardwood surface.
———————————————————————
The next two weeks felt like a whirlwind. Not only was the end of term approaching as rapidly as ever, but because your fifth years were rushing towards you every hour of the day to prepare for their OWLs, you were feeling rather happy that you only had a few days left before you were out of here. A lot of them seemed to get the hang of their Charms abilities, but many of them still seemed to be a little off. You couldn’t blame them — fifth year was rough — but you really wanted them all to be successful and to pass. Many of your students wanted to go on and be Aurors. A passing Charms mark was kind of a necessity.
“So you’re alright with overlooking the exam?” the Headmistress asked, her pointy hat standing tall on her head as her emerald robes flowed loosely behind her, the two of you walking towards the Great Hall, “You won’t be alone, but I just wanted to double check.”
You grinned, “Of course, it would be my pleasure.”
The walk to the Hall wasn’t long, but you were feeling suddenly anxious. You had poured your heart and soul into the teaching that you had done this year — you only hoped it paid off enough. You didn’t want to disappoint or let your students down. This was the most important exam yet.
The Charms exam was tomorrow at noon, so you weren’t sure why your wand was in a knot just yet, but the anxious bubbles in your stomach hadn’t calmed down over the last few days, to be totally honest.
You walked into the silent Hall, no students present yet, and came to a halt as you spotted the redheaded man standing all the way on the other side.
“Oh, so you’re my ever so lovely companion this afternoon?” he grinned, standing up off of his chair and placing the stack of papers down on the table in front of him, his sweater clinging rightfully to his body and causing you to scan your eyes up and down his figure. He had a pen sticking out from behind his ear and you could see the pleased expression cross his face, even from the other side of the room.
“I suspect you two will behave,” McGonagall said from next to you, her eyes twinkling with some sort of amusement as she gazed between the two of you, eyebrows raised.
“When do I not behave, Minerva?” Fred asked cockily, shoving his hands into his pockets — which suddenly seemed to be a signature move for him. You weren’t really sure where it came from, but you weren’t complaining. It gave him some sort of authoritarian vibe, which was one of the many reasons you felt as if today might be a tough day.
Leaving you and Fred alone, McGonagall left the hall with a quick shake of her head, her little heels clacking loudly. You rolled your eyes, walking over to stand next to him. Even as you walked up the few stairs to the platform, Fred’s height towered over you and caused you to crane your neck up to look him in the eyes.
“Well, well, well,” he grinned, his hands finding their way to your lower back, sliding down so that they rested in the bum pockets of your jeans.
“Fred!” you squeaked, giving him a light slap across the bicep before pulling away, “We’ve almost been caught twice. Third time is definitely not the charm, here.”
He let out a low chuckle, his chest vibrating and his eyes crinkling in the corners. You loved the sight of him in a good mood, your heart doing a little flip in your chest as he ran a hand through his hair.
You couldn’t help yourself, leaning up onto your tip toes and pressing a light kiss to his lips, pulling away ever-so-quickly, reaching up and pulling the pen out from behind his ear in the process, putting it down on the little desk next to the chair he was previously seated in.
“Ha! Gotcha,” you grinned, using your index finger to tap his nose lightly.
“Oh, okay,” he nodded, hands immediately finding their way around your waist, “That’s not fair, love.”
His lips quickly found their way down to yours, warm and inviting as always. No matter how many times you kissed him, you never got tired of it. You still got the same amount of tingles and butterflies as you did the first time he kissed you. And that’s not something you ever imagined would change.
“Fred,” you mumbled against his lips, a low groan leaving his throat as you tried your best to wiggle out of his grasp. You could hear the voices of students down the corridor— they were bound to enter the Great Hall any second now. This was not the position you wanted them to see you two in.
“Fine, fine,” he mumbled, pulling away and rolling his eyes. His lips were red and his cheeks were slightly flushed, but he looked as dashing as ever. It was hard for him not to look like this, actually. Something in Fred Weasley’s blood just made him irresistible. You often felt like cursing him out, honestly.
Seconds later, the large door opened and the room was no longer silent. Fred shot you a quick wink, sending your heart into a fluttering frenzy, before you turned to face the oncoming group.
“Good morning!” you announced with a somehow steady voice, “Everyone find your seat so we can begin!”
It took a few minutes, but eventually the group each found their assigned desks and sat down, taking out their quills and parchment.
“You have two hours,” Fred clapped his hands together, echoing loudly throughout the room, “And the two of us will be here if you have any questions. The lovely Professor Y/L/N has volunteered to keep me company, probably because she finds me irresistible—” you rolled your eyes, “—but we’ll both answer any questions you have.”
You looked to the ground, hair falling into your face as you bit your tongue, holding back any snarky remarks towards your idiotic boyfriend. He really wasn’t helping the whole ‘lowkey’ aspect to your relationship.
“Does anyone have any questions before we start?” he asked, lifting his left arm to check the watch on his wrist. You finally peered back up, gazing over at the large clock that was sitting behind you. You immediately regretted not bringing a cup of tea or a snack, but the two hours were bound to fly by. This wasn’t your first time overlooking an exam period, and each time you’ve done this before, it’s never felt like it was dragging on.
“Good luck everyone!” you called out with a smile, clapping your hands together. They all began scribbling away as you finished your sentence, the scratching sound being the only noise you could hear as any previous chatter had now completely ceased.
You walked slowly over to Fred, your hands crossed over your chest as you raised an eyebrow, “Really smooth, you know? Nearly gave us away, you did.”
He shrugged, giving you a lopsided grin, “Oh, come on. Pretty sure half this lot know we’re together anyways. They may be younger, but they’re not completely dim-witted.”
Scoffing and turning your back to the group to face him better, you tried your best to give Fred a serious glare, “None of them are dim-witted, Fred. I’m just saying it would be nice to avoid the drama that comes with public teacher relationships.”
You took a step back as he took one towards you, trying your best to maintain some sort of professional distance. The students might be busy with their work, but that didn’t mean they were blind to the two Professors standing watch at the front of the room.
“I gotta admit, love,” he nodded his head, lowering his voice and leaning in, “the sneaking around has been rather fun.”
His voice sent shivers down your body, goosebumps rising on your skin. You forgot how to breathe for a second, quickly trying your best to regain your composure so the students didn’t see you looking like a fish out of water.
You let out a low cough, clearing your throat and nodding, “It has, hasn’t it?”
The grin on his face was practically contagious, causing the corners of your own lips to turn up before lifting a hand to toss your hair out of your face. You gazed up at him, running your tongue over your bottom lip before pulling it between your teeth, shooting him a wink in the process.
You could see the way his eyes were drawn to your every move, looking at your lips as if in some sort of trance. It caused a little sense of pride to blossom in your chest, to be honest. Fred was often the one who had you locked in a permanent dreamy state. It wasn’t everyday that you had the upper hand.
“Not bloody fair,” he tossed his head back, “Y’know how badly that makes me want to kiss you.”
You smirked, giving him a quick shrug of your shoulders and turning away, swaying your hips as you walked over to the chair that was a few feet away, sitting down comfortably and giving him another wink. You could tell his gaze was on your hips as you walked away — the darker tone in his eyes now locked on you.
Oh, this was going to be fun.
———————————————————————
“You’re a real piece of work, y’know?” he groaned in your ear, leaning over you as you organized the pile of recently collected exams, making sure that Fred’s proximity wasn’t a distraction. You weren’t being overly successful at that last part, though. You could smell his cologne and the warmth of his skin as he stood mere inches away, knowing damn well that he was causing you to stutter in your work.
You had been teasing Fred the entire exam period, sending him winks and lingering looks, even being bold enough to run your hand through his hair at one point, making sure to rake your nails lightly down the nape of his neck, enough to cause his body to erupt in goosebumps. He gave you a stern look after that, letting you know that he was now completely and utterly under your charm.
“Am I? Well, this is a competition, if you remember correctly. I think I won.” you spun around, leaning against the desk, a teasing look on your face.
“Oh, you definitely won,” his hands slid around your waist, delicately but firmly. He had a way with body language that was unmatched, you had to admit.
Taking a step closer to you and pulling your body closer to his, he dipped his head and began to pepper your jaw with light kisses.
“Fred,” you giggled, weakly attempting to push him away, “Not right now.”
He groaned against your neck, his lips continuing to press kisses along your skin. It was rendering your mind nearly completely blank, but you tried your best to stay focused, to make sure that you guys wouldn’t get caught and ruin the secrecy aspect to your hidden romance. Plus, you really didn’t want McGonagall to catch you in such a scandalous position.
“Honestly, do you have no self control?” you asked, successfully pushing him away. You missed the warmth of his body pressed against yours, but you had a feeling you’d be getting a lot of that tonight so you weren’t too upset about it. He’d more than make up for it in a few hours.
“Not around you, love,” he grinned, running a hand through his hair. You wished you were the one doing it instead, but once again, you had a feeling you’d be doing that quite a bit tonight, so you figured you’d wait until you could do it with no worries of anyone cutting in. He loved the feeling of your hands running through his hair, delicately giving little tugs every now and then.
You let out a laugh, shaking your head as you picked up the pile of finished exams, “You’re too much.”
Fred followed closely after you as you made your way towards the exit of the Hall, his hands empty but he kept them to himself this time, “But you love me, don’t you?”
“Of course I do.”
———————————————————————
After having been empty this afternoon, the Great Hall was now bustling with life. The four house tables were filled with students and food, echoes of distant and nearby conversations reverberating around the crowded room. It wasn’t a sight one could get used to. Yes, you had spent seven years of your youth here, and a few years as a Professor now, but the atmosphere of this room would never quite sink in.
Professor Neville Longbottom, who was currently seated next to you, was rambling on about a mishap that happened in his class that day — something about a first year Gryffindor knocking over eight potted plants — and you nodded along and laughed as he made jokes.
“Can you believe it?” he asked, eyes wide as he munched on a potato, “He thought Mandrakes and Mimbulus Mimbletonia were the same thing!”
You let out an amused snort, “Kind of hard to think that,” you took a sip of your goblet of wine, “But I guess some people don’t have the magical knack for plants that you do.” You nudged him in the side with a smile.
He grinned at the compliment, the tips of his ears turning a deep shade of red. Neville was two years below you while in school, but his knowledge of plants and nature was way beyond you.
The conversation fell to a lull and Neville became invested in chatting with the person to his other side. You didn’t pay much attention to who it was, as your eyes were now trained to the other end of the table, where the usual seat of Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor was occupied by your boyfriend.
His eyes were already looking in your direction, causing a heat to surge through your body. A lazy smile was on his lips, and he clearly wasn’t paying attention to the elderly Professor Slughorn seated to his right.
“I love you,” you could read his lips, his eyes bright as they stayed locked on yours. His smile was genuine and loving, quite opposite to the teasing one he usually gave you, and it left your stomach feeling rather fluttery.
You bit your lower lip, fighting a grin, before moving your lips in return, “I love you more.”

Odd Understanding
Ghost Whisperer Yeosang x Healer Fem Reader
Requested!
tw: high school setting, mentions of a dead person, spirits, bruises and blood.
note: @navihwa thank you for requesting this, hope you like how this turned out. There are some angsty parts, hehe sorry can't help it. Enjoy the read!
Tumblr media
Most days, you’re glad that no one knew of your unnatural gift but then sometimes you wish it was accepted into the norms of life. The fact that you have to always hide behind bushes and heal small animals along the way to school was getting tiring and troublesome.
You can’t help but feel the need to heal them. Small birds with a broken wing, a stray cat badly injured from being forced to live in the streets.
Everyday, there’s always something to heal but it has to be done in secrecy or else people will accuse you of witchcraft. Even in this modern time and day.
However, you weren’t as unlucky as your classmate. Kang Yeosang. He was shunned and avoided by almost everyone at school. You felt bad but you were no different than the others who acted as if Yeosang was an odd case.
Ever since junior high, there's been a rumor saying that he frequently got involved with gang fights and would come to school the next day bruised up.
You didn’t believe one bit of the rumor since you’ve never seen it happen. It felt wrong to judge him just by that unconfirmed piece of information.
Everyone was seated in the classroom including you. A small butterfly that you just healed rested on the back of your palm. You were busy looking at it when suddenly the class went quiet.
You looked up and saw Yeosang walking in with his head hung low as he went to his seat. Every single day, you have to listen to the same words from your classmates and even other students that stopped to peek at him through the window.
“Look at him, all bruised up again.”
“The fact that he’s beaten up, probably lost big time.”
“Can he at least cover up his messed up face. It gives me the creeps”
You’ve had enough and slammed the table which surprised everyone in the process. Yeosang, who was seated a table away from you, turned to look and raised both his brows in amusement before lying his head down on the table.
Class went on as usual and you couldn’t help but turn to look at Yeosang every now and then. There was a cut at the corner of his lips, his right wrist was bandaged and scattered purple bruises on his neck. He doesn’t look like the type to fight so what’s with all the bruises?
You tried to be as nonchalant as possible but he caught you looking once and that almost made you send your books to the floor. Embarrassed, you focus back to the teacher at the front.
As everyone was busy solving the math problem on the board, you were busy scribbling out a plan to confront Yeosang. It was a crazy idea considering that you’re actually intimidated by him not because of the rumors but because he seemed to hate being around anyone in general.
“I can’t believe I’m actually doing this.” you made yourself up to the rooftop where it’s said that Yeosang spent his lunch time there. A plastic bag filled with food as another hand held onto the railing as you climbed up the never ending stairs.
You threw your head back and exhaled loudly before entering the rooftop. There he was, sitting at the other side of the roof, shading himself from the sun. You walk over and watch him quietly eating his food, back leaning on what you assume are the walls of a storage room.
“Um...” you started off. He didn’t even look up and continued to munch on his food. “Can I sit here with you?” You carefully asked and watched him lifting his head up and looking you in the eye before going back to his food.
Rolling your eyes, you sat down across from him and started going through the bag you brought along. It was starting to get awkward with him not saying a single word since you showed up.
You started to eat in silence and observed him, the bruises looked unusual for a fist fight was what you concluded.
“Stop looking. I know why you’re here.” He placed his finished lunch box aside and finally looked at you properly.
“I’m not telling you anything. Just leave once you’re done.” You blinked at him and he raised a brow at you. “What?”
“No it’s just...I rarely hear your voice.” You whispered to yourself. You forgot how deep it was and the fact it doesn’t suit his features had you looked away for a moment before looking back at him.
You then moved closer to him and examined every inch of his face. Yeosang lightly pushed you away when you got too close for his liking. You were bound to get scolded by your parents after this for revealing your secret but it was a risk you’re willing to take.
“Yeosang, let me heal you.”
Your eyes were determined and face serious but the male in front of you couldn’t help and started laughing. “What are you even saying?” He asked as he slowly regained his composure.
You wanted to explain further but he suddenly stood up and looked down at you with utmost seriousness. As if he didn’t laugh moments ago. “If you don’t want to get hurt. Don’t bother me.” Yeosang then walked away, leaving you staring at his retreating back.
Even after being rejected at the rooftop, you weren’t giving up that easily. You tried again the next day and the day after that. Yeosang was starting to get even more annoyed every time he saw you appearing at the rooftop.
After a week, you were starting to give up. Kang Yeosang was indeed stubborn and prideful with the way he disappeared right after you confronted him. Friday arrived and you had to stay back for cleaning duties.
Your homeroom teacher kept asking if any of you heard from Yeosang since he’s been absent for two days straight. You wondered if he skipped school because of you but that can’t be the sole reason.
But again, if he doesn't want to be bothered then you have no choice but to stop your advances and move on.
You left the classroom and walked along the hallways to the staircase. As you were about to step down, a lone figure stepped up the stairs and you recognised who it was.
Yeosang was in his school uniform and you stepped back as you noticed blood dripping from the side of his head.
“Your head is bleeding, Yeosang. Wait, where are you taking me?” He said nothing but dragged you up the stairs. You tried to pry his grip away but it was strong and he seemed to not loosen his grip at all.
Both of you were at the rooftop, a place you never expected to return that soon. He let go of your wrist and sat down on the ground. “You said you could heal. Were you lying back then?”
“I wasn’t lying. I can show you if you let me.” You sat down beside him and waited for a response. He scanned you from head to toe before hesitantly giving his hand. You placed his hand on your thigh and clasped it with both your palms.
With closed eyes, you focused solely on finding all of the wounds and bruises on his body. Yeosang watched as you winced and groaned by yourself and started to panic.
“Hey, are you okay?” His other hand went to your shoulder and tried to shake you from the trance you were in but you didn’t respond. He started to notice how your neck was now covered in purplish bruises and your temple was bleeding as he was earlier ago.
You fluttered your eyes open and smiled at him. You sensed his worry while you were focusing on healing him earlier but couldn’t stop. You can’t risk messing up the only thing you were confident and good at.
“Can you tell me exactly what happened to you? I know these bruises aren’t from normal fights.” You pulled the sleeves of your uniform and showed him the claw marks around them.
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing, they appeared exactly as it was on his arms. He felt lighter and not as much pain as he was earlier. “Don’t get scared now, I just healed you.” You frowned at him and eyed his arm that went up to your temple.
His fingers softly touched the dripping blood and without a second thought he wiped it away with his own sleeves. “What kind of healer are you? Your head is bleeding...”
He had more questions but guilt rushed to him as he saw you groaning again when you move to stretch your body.
“Well, the wounds I heal apparently stuck on me for a few days before they’re gone. This is the first time since I usually heal small animals which don't give much of an effect.”
Yeosang was utterly surprised by your calm explanation as if having this capability was something normal. He had a lot to say but chose not to, seeing how you’re willing to answer all of them there and then. He didn’t want to spend the whole night at the school’s rooftop and it was getting chilly by the second.
“So my question earlier?” You crossed your arms and stared at him.
“You’re going to think I’m crazy.” He started off, scratching his neck that was now bruised free which felt weird considering there were always new bruises.
“You saw what I did to you? How weird can you be?” A scoff left your lips.
“The scratches and bruises I got are all caused by spirits.” He saw your eyes widened for a second before resuming his words. “They call people like me ghost whisperers or something like that but I hate it. It’s just inconvenient and full of shit.” He realised what he just said and cleared his throat.
“So you can see them and talk to them? Are there any around us now?” Yeosang had expected you to ask that but never with excitement.
He actually hated when his family asked the same question and kept telling him to banish the spirits around their house like he was a shaman. He could only do so much as talking and looked what happened to his body.
“Yeah, I can communicate with them. If I ignore them or get them angry, they’ll hurt me.”
It must be hard for him to deal with it and it’s not like he chose to have that ability, you thought. Yeosang had a similar issue to you but it was worse and everyone avoided him because they don’t know the real reason for it.
You heard him calling your name which made you stop from your inner thoughts.
“Someone close to you died recently, right?” He asked all of a sudden.
“No one died recently. Is there a spirit near me now?” He nodded at your words as his eyes looked right behind you instead of your face.
“He said you need to let him go. It’s been a year since the accident.”
Your eyes trembled at Yeosang’s words. “Is he really here?” you saw him nodded again. You didn’t expect your boyfriend to be around you after his death. This was kind of a shock but you felt Yeosang’s hand on your shoulder.
“He said you should move on from that day. He knows you missed him a lot but he needs to go.” You tried not to cry and glared at Yeosang.
“Tell him, if I let him go, who is going to protect me after this?” Yeosang observed how you tried to hold back your tears and nodded to the spirit behind you.
“He can hear you, you know. He said, he has an idea but you won’t like it.”
“What is it?” You rolled your eyes and observed Yeosang’s face that went from calm to flustered in a matter of seconds.
“Ah, I can’t do that...” He said out of nowhere and you looked at him confused.
“What did he say, Yeosang?”
“I don’t think I should tell you. We should leave, it’s getting late.”
Yeosang tends to act out of character when he’s nervous or troubled, which was obviously new to you. He pulled you up and took your bag and headed straight to the door when he stopped just a feet away from it.
“What’s going on? Why did you stop?” You were starting to get worried since you can’t see or hear what he can. You weren’t scared before but now it was starting to get to you.
“He blocked the door. Says he won’t let us leave until we both agree to his plan. This is so annoying, why was I born with this?” He grumbled to himself.
You stepped closer to him and looked at the door, clearly there was nothing but Yeosang said otherwise. “Tell me what it is.”
“He wants me to look after you and you could do the same for me.” His voice was low and almost inaudible but you heard him.
Nothing about you is normal and having Yeosang right here with you added even more abnormality the both of you had.
But then, Yeosang came to look for you himself. That's more than enough to know he trusted and needed your help even if he didn’t say the exact words. If that’s what he wanted then it’s time to end it and let him free.
You stared right at the door and slowly tangled your finger with Yeosang who was startled at your sudden gesture.
“I won’t ever forget you but I guess this is goodbye.”
You smiled at the empty space in front of you and felt Yeosang squeezed your hand as a gust of wind passed both of you.
“He’s gone.” You somewhat knew that already but hummed in response. “By the way, thanks for earlier.” Both of you looked at each other, his expression was soft, different from the cold unfriendly one he always has on.
“You're welcome. I still need to get bandages though.” The ache was getting to you and without hesitation, Yeosang turned the knob and ran down the stairs with you following behind. Fingers still tangled with one another as if it was meant to be that way for a long time.
He was warming up to you and to your surprise everything that happened felt natural, as if it was meant to be that way.
What matters was that, both you and Yeosang finally found someone that can relate and understand the struggles in your life.
Even if you were going to be the two odd peas in a pod after this, it doesn’t seem that bad, now that you have each other to rely on.

you’re gonna wanna be my best friend— y. itadori x gn! reader
max.note’s: this is my child, my baby and i love it. probably my favorite fic i’ve ever wrote uwu i think the ending is bit rushed but that’s i was writing this at 4am (i’m also trying out a new layout-ish so yea)
synopsis—where you and Itadori came up with the greatest, yet stupidest idea in your lives: getting married to lower your tuition cost. what could go wrong? well, there’s getting caught by the government, and then there’s potentially falling in love with your best friend.
warning/tags: best friends to lovers, mutual pining, characters aged up (18+), high school/college au, modern au, fluff & crack, megumi is the only one with a working brain cell
w. count— 3.1k
Tumblr media
“yuuji, what’re we gonna do!?” you exclaimed, pacing around the open space of said boy’s bedroom. itadori groaned loudly from his spot on his bed, tugging at the skin underneath his eyes with him.
looking down at the bright, bold red letters of the opened email on your phone screen, you internally cried to yourself, because… fuck. this is what all the hard work all four-years of high school led up to?
25, 580 dollars worth tuition left to pay, out of pocket.
“i don’t fucking know. ...wait, do you think megumi would have an answer?” he perked up at his own, and quite frankly, idiotic idea like an excited puppy. if you squint you can see a tail wagging behind him. turning around to look at the pink headed boy, you practically leaped across the room to slap him repeatedly upside his head.
“ow– hey... ouch! what the fuck?!” itadori whined, lifting his arms up to shield himself way from your merciless assault. “yuuji, are you dumb? we cannot, for the love of god, ask megumi. he’ll probably tell us to apply for a loan or something.” you snapped.
“we’ll do that then, it can’t be that hard.”
“have you seen your credit? there’s no way we're getting approved for a loan.” you exasperated as you folded your arms across your chest, plopping yourself down next to itadori. and the both of you were left to sit in condemning silence that laid itself like a thick, winter blanket over you. itadori could’ve sworn he heard the gears turning in your head because of the stark silence.
you suddenly gasped, jumping to your feet. it was almost like a lightbulb went off on the top of your head. itadori gaped at you as your eyes lit up like stars, turning to him, it was your ‘aha’ moment. the biggest smile he’s ever seen on your face. he couldn’t help the tinge of nervousness settle in the pit of his tummy, probably for good reason.
“here me out– what if we got married?”
-
you and itadori meet in the lunchroom on the first day of school your freshman year of high school.
to say you meet by pure coincidence is actually a perfect explanation to describe what really went down. you remember how you sat alone at the lunch table, scrolling through your phone on social media when all of a sudden a rather energetic boy with pink hair crashed into your table. face planted in your bowl of greek yogurt. and it was the fancy kind too.
the cafeteria around you erupted in laughter at the... spontaneous display happening before you. and although you wanted to laugh (in all honesty, it was funny), the boy below hasn’t moved an inch. truthfully, you were worried.
“hey, um, are you okay?” you asked, nudging the top of his head. itadori didn’t show any sign of getting up. you nudged him a little harder, shaking his shoulder. with a gurgled grunt, itadori lifted his head from the bowl and the first thing that caught your eye was the crimson colored blood smeared along the stark white of the yogurt. there was a delirious look in his eye as if he wasn’t completely there in the real world. the laughter has long since died down, only a few strangers coming up to the table to record the aftermath.
when itadori came to, he peered up at you through his yogurt clumped eyelashes and he felt his heart tighten considerably in his chest.
“you okay? you’re... bleeding, a lot.” you asked again, gesturing to the entirety of his face. he didn’t say anything as he wiped around his nose, seeing the blood covered dairy. he looked mortified, now catching onto the stares and cameras by nosy teenagers being shoved in his face. reacting quickly, you reached out to one his unoccupied hand, gently guiding him in the direction of the nurses office. your footsteps echoed as you walked down the empty hallway, itadori following close behind you. neither of you said anything during the trip, nor when you entered the nurse’s office. it wasn’t until you had a warm wash rag against itadori’s cheek, wiping away the food and blood mixture, that he finally said something.
“i’m... sorry, for ruining your lunch...” you stopped in your tracks, left to ponder in your thoughts. he’s sitting here with a busted lip and a shattered dignity... and he’s apologizing for face planting in your yogurt?
“hey, you have bigger things to worry about. so, what’s your name?” you continued to wipe at his face, waiting for him to reply.
“yuuji itadori.” and you saw the slightest glimpse of a smile tugging at the corner of his rosy lips. you returned the smile, teeth showing.
from then on, you two were joined at the hip. there wasn’t anything you didn’t do together.
there was something about itadori that brought out the inner child in you. he was sweet, loyal and compassionate. he was a lamp to a moth– hard to resist. hard to ignore. he was your first taste of an easy going life, being able to enjoy being a kid.
on the other hand, you were the foundation he needed. you were open minded, authentic and grounded. you were the first thing in itadori’s life that felt stable. obtainable. your ambition turned into his drive; he wanted to be by your side for as long as possible.
you both were something– somebody, each other needed the most. it’s like what they say: the best people in your life come when you need them the most.
-
“are you two dumb or something? now, i expect this kinda thing from yuuji, but not you.”megumi quipped, left eyebrow arched in concern as he gestured towards your direction with his pencil. nobara in a similar state next to him, working on the worksheet the teacher handed out earlier. it was currently mid-way through the school day, you, itadori, megumi and nobara sat at your assigned table in statistics. it’s been about a week since your discussion with itadori about your... rather brilliant idea.
“well, that’s harsh.” itadori grumbled, flipping him off. megumi snorted as he returned the gesture. “okay, now listen! they’re explaining the thingy.”
you cleared your throat, sitting up straight to try to make yourself look dignified. “when applying for financial aid, if you’re married, we’ll be considered an independent on the document. meaning? more money!”
“okay, well that’s great and all but, you do know you’ll be responsible for each other legally? as in, medical and money expenses. what would you do if either one of you dies? ” megumi questioned. you chuckled, wrapping your arm around itadori’s neck. “i’ve been legally responsible for him since freshman year, what’ll be the difference?”
megumi rolled his eyes, burying his head in his hands. “god, you’re both so helpless.”
“you know what megumi? i hope both sides of your pillow are warm when you go to sleep tonight.” itadori gasped in shock, hand reaching up to grip the cotton fabric of the shirt he was wearing. nobara snickered behind her hand to which megumi prompted to shift in her direction, whispering something along the lines of “don’t encourage them!”
“(y/n)! you did not just say that!?”
“i sure as hell did. and i’ll say it again!” you snapped your fingers, jutting out your hip. “and they’ll say it again!” itadori said, copying your actions.
megumi and nobara only watched in pity as the two of you continued to embarrass yourself in the middle of the classroom, other classmates turning to catch a peak of the commotion.
“wait, i got one, i got one! ahem, i hope you pour yourself a nice, big bowl of cereal of— what do you eat? apple jacks? only for there to be no milk!”
you sputtered out a laugh, pounding your fist on the table. itadori was loud with laughter as well, body slung over the back of the chair.
megumi sighed, picking up his pencil to erase a mistake he spotted on his paper. he watched as the eraser smudged the lead on the paper instead of actually erasing it. watching the scene unfold before you, wheezing out another laugh, and clutching on to your stomach for relief.
“shut the fuck up, the both of you.”
-
graduation was only a month away.
teachers were cramming review lessons left and right. completing any last minute work to turn in. senior activities, trips, prom, and getting ready for what was to be the biggest day of your life. where all your hard work and putting up with the shitty ass public school system for 13 years will finally pay off.
at least that’s how they make it seem.
itadori was currently sitting in megumi’s living room, sprawled out on the floor like a starfish. his political science textbook laid open next to him. he’s been unusually quiet this afternoon, megumi noted when he would glance up from his own textbook in his lap.
“hey, yuuji? something the matter?”
itadori didn’t respond right away, instead, he shifted himself closer to megumi to lay his head on the other boy's lap. caught surprised by his actions, megumi tried to shove his head off but itadori being the stubborn man he was wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“god, you’re so annoying—“
“then why are you still friends with me?” his words were quick and sharp like a kitchen knife. and megumi had to take a second to pause. “is this what this is about?” itadori still hasn’t said anything, his body curling in on itself. eventually, he shook his head no.
“alright... then what’s wrong?”
megumi watched as itadori twiddled with fingers, reluctant to share his feelings with the other male. you see, the thing is that although megumi and itadori have been friends since middle school, they found it hard to share each other's feelings. especially megumi. they’ve always been the “i don’t know how to talk about my feelings so let me enjoy your company for a while?” type of friends. except for that one time.
“it’s just... i’m not so sure if i want to marry (y/n) anymore...” megumi could barely hear what itadori said, but he caught it. and color him surprised. “have you finally come to senses that it’s a stupid idea?”
“no, it’s not that–” megumi sighed internally, “–it’s just, what if our relationship changes after it’s finalized? we planned to do it after graduation a-and– it’s just a really scary thing to think about. itadori’s voice began to warble, and megumi could feel his body tremble as the boy beneath tried to hold in his tears.
in all the years they’ve known each other, itadori has only cried once in front of him. and that was the night of his 16th birthday. because itadori didn’t come from the best home, and at the time, only megumi knew of such disclosed information.
“they said it themselves, you guys have always taken care of each other. so why do you think it’ll change things?” he gently tried to coax itadori into calming down, his hand stroking the soft tufts of his hair. thumb caressing his buzzcut. itadori sniffed, and megumi can hear the disgusting sound of snot being sucked back in his nostrils, but he refrained himself from reacting.
“b-because, i just don’t want my feelings to get in the way, ya’ know? this is simply supposed to be platonic, but it isn’t anymore. at least for me.”
and right then and there, megumi’s suspicions were confirmed. itadori did have feelings for you. more than what a best friend should have. “your feelings? and what might these feelings be, yuuji?”
“that i want to spend a very long time with them, by their side. but not as their best friend. something more than that.” he let out a shuddered  exhale, and the room was engulfed with silence. megumi took this time to process what itadori said, the last four words resonating in his mind.
something more than that.
megumi shifted itadori’s body off his, moving to sit up on his own. and that’s when he saw his face for the first time; his red-brimmed eyes and how the tears clumped his willowy eyelashes together. the tremble in his lips because, damn, he’s trying so hard to hold it in.
he didn’t have anything to say– there wasn’t much to say to begin with, but megumi wrapped his arms around itadori in a hug. he felt him relax against his body, taking in the cool scent of his sweater.
“it’s okay to be scared, yuuji, but i believe... you’re smart enough to make the right decision.”
 -
standing underneath the blazing summer heat, you stood in front of the court house waiting for itadori to show up. today was supposed to be the day, where you and itadori were to be married. it’s been thirty minutes and no itadori in sight. which is unlike him considering that he is, surprisingly, very punctual. he hasn’t even responded to any of your texts or calls, which also isn’t very much like him.
but those thirty minutes turned into an hour, that soon turned into two hours.
and to say you were angry, was a complete understatement. you were livid. and that’s how you found yourself banging on itadori’s front door, ignoring the stares of the noisy next door neighbor peeping through their window.
“yuuji! open the fucking door! i know your ass is in there, i can see your minecraft lamp turned on from your window.” you shouted, breathing heavily through your nose. there wasn’t an immediate response, only dead silence, which prompted you to raise your fist to go another round of beating up the door until the faint sound of footsteps reached the door. opening with a creak.
there stood the man of the hour, yuuji ita- fucking- dori.
“there you are! dude, what the hell happened? why didn’t you show up at the courthouse today? did you forget or...” you were quick to jump the gun, bombarding him with questions left and right.
“no... i didn’t forget.” was his reply, eye downcast to look at his sock clad feet. anywhere but your face right now.
“then what yuuji? what could’ve been so important that you decided to just forget?” you flayed your arms around like a mad man, the anger rolling off your body in waves. you knew that you weren’t necessarily being fair to him right now, you can tell by his stand-offish attitude since opening the door. but you couldn’t bring yourself to care at the moment.
itadori was reluctant to answer, his legs wobbly with the anxiety running rampant in his system. he was tempted to say sorry and be done with this, but then he remembered megumi’s words.
...you’re smart enough to make the right decision.
“because... because this isn’t a good idea anymore.” now you’re more confused than angry.
“what do you mean this isn’t a good idea anymore,” you asked, placing your hand on your hip. “that's not what you said 4 months ago.”
itadori sighed, starting to feel the twinge of annoyance in the tips of his fingers. he was starting to regret his choice of words. “i know what i said 4 months ago. but now 4 months later, i’ve changed my mind.”
you wanted to laugh, but you couldn’t muster a bubble of it in your system. was he for real right now?
“oh really? and why do you say that?”
“it’ll change everything.” the reply was short. straight to the point.
“what? no, it won’t! don’t be silly, we’ll still be best friends!” you try to muse, but itadori wasn’t budging. his face was disdained, detached from the world. the answer was sitting on the tip of his tongue, but he wasn’t ready to say it. especially in front of you.
taking in his physique, your mind started to slow. you didn’t want to go there but you couldn’t help it. it was only natural, right?
he’s been off putting since the graduation ceremony two weeks ago. he was so bright and happy that day, shoving his diploma in megumi’s face a numerous number of times. you remember the scream he let out when your name was called to walk across the stage of the arena. how embarrassed you felt as you did so, but a twinge of giddy happiness filled your chest. because he was calling out your name. your heart always did leap with joy when his attention was on you, and only you. the way he had you wrapped around his finger, without him even knowing. it takes you back to when you two first met, how you were so captivated by his amber eyes. the sudden urge to be there. to always be there and to be more.
so... “do you not like me anymore? is this what this is about now?” it came out a whispered, and itadori was shocked nonetheless. now what were you talking about?
“what, no! of course i still like you!” you almost laughed at how quickly he responded.
“then why? why did you–”
“i just didn’t want to make things awkward between us! i didn’t want to ruin our friendship with my... stupid feelings.” glancing up, you can see the slightest tint of pink on the roundness of his cheeks. awkward? ruin?
you took a step forward, your hand reaching to hold his. kindly, thumbing his knuckles with your thumb. the way he always liked it.
“yuuji, your feelings are never stupid. i’m your best friend–” with a frustrated huff, itadori ripped his hand away from yours.
“but that’s the thing though! best friend this and best friend that– what if i don’t want to be your best friend anymore, hm? what if–” make the right decision, “what if i want to be more than that?”
more than that?
“you want to be more than friends? is what you’re saying.” itadori can almost feel himself shit his pants.
that giddy feeling that always erupted whenever you were around him expanded ten fold. you’ll be damned: your best friend of four and a half years, was in love with you. the smile that you struggled to fight bloomed with mirth on your face. and itadori followed suit, reaching out to hold your hand once more.
not much needed to be said, the smile on your face was enough for him to put it all together. for once, he was actually smart enough to make a decision. a good one at that.

Summary: You transferred to UA, being shy and not very talkative. With this, not many kids wanted to talk to you except for 3 third years, one of which falling for you once he laid his eyes on you.
Words: 2.6k
Warnings: fluff, very soft, it's kind of a jumbled mess but I love it
A/N: I hope you all enjoy this story! Also I gave the reader a cat quirk like my own personal OC. So you're kinda like Tsuyu but with Cat features.
Tumblr media
You sit quietly at your desk, looking around the classroom to everyone else who were all much more focused on their conversations to notice the new girl. You were thankful for it, your anxiety would not be able to handle an entire class' focus being on you.
You played quietly with your fingers, small little lesions showing up as your blade like nails scraped at your skin. You looked up as 3 students walked in right as the bell rang, two of them talking and laughing loudly as the other kept his head low and only contributed whispers to the conversation.
The girl was the first to spot you, letting out a large gasp as she did. "Ooh! And new student! I'm Nejire!" She spoke, her hands clasped behind her back as she tilted her whole body to the side as to smile at you. You freeze instantly and shakily waive at her "Y-Y/N..." you spoke softly, catching the attention of the two males with Nejire more than you had had before. "Aw, you're like our little kitten Tamaki! I'm sorry for being so straightforward with introducing myself Y/N and for getting attention on you." She spoke, her tone getting softer as to make everyone look away from you.
You smile gently at her actions "it's okay..I just don't like the attention or meeting people to be honest.." you murmur out as he glance over to the navy haired boy whose eyes were focused on you. Once his eyes met your gaze, he blushed and instantly looked away as his body began to shake.
Nejire nods before she points to Mirio, "this is Mirio" she said with a smile as the blonde male waves "hey there!" He said before sitting down at his desk with Nejire following after. You watched them and smile gently before looking to boy you now knew as Tamaki. The first thing you noticed was his pointy ears, your smile growing softly as you felt your own cat ears flatten against your head.
Soon enough your home room teacher stepped in and you pulled your notes out to start doodling. Soon you felt a small tap on your shoulder from Nejire "so, Me, Mirio and Tamaki have to head to the first years to explain work studies and talk with them. From what everyone has been saying...you were the top third year at your old school?" She asks and tilts her head, her hair following behind her head.
You look up and nod "I was. I think I'm number 4 at this school behind you 3" you speak softly and smile.
"Awsome! Why don't you come with us and talk with the first years. You still have your work study right? That's the reason you transferred was to get closer to it?" She asks softly with a bright and happy smile
You nod to her words "that would be amazing Nejire. And yes, I transferred to be closer with my work study. Now that I think about it, there was another third year from U.A. in the agency I got approved for.." you speak softly.
Mirio and Tamaki both perk up hearing this "who did you get approved by Y/N?" Mirio asks as he turns to look at you
"Ah, Fatgum" you say softly and smile at him "I just don't know who all is under the agency yet" you speak softly
Tamaki hesitantly opens his mouth "I'm the other third year..." he speaks quietly as he keeps his head down. You turn and smile "well...at least I have met you then" you speak softly and rub his shoulder which only made him tense up more.
You pull away slowly and offer a gentle smile toward the timid Male before focusing on class until you and the other three left class for head down to the first years.
Once you all had finished introductions, you all went to the gym as Mirio wanted yo see just how tough this class was. Tamaki was almost instantly glued to the wall as his anxiety had sky rocketed with all the kids.
You quietly walked over to him and leaned against the wall as you sighed "are they always like this?" You ask softly and he simply nods "Mirio had a reason for this, he must gets carried away" Tamaki murmurs to you as he turns and looks at your face.
You nod before playing with your hands "will you introduce me to everyone at the agency?" You ask softly as he bit down on his swollen and chapped lip, nodding shortly after "O-Of course.." he whispered
Tumblr media
You walked quietly beside Tamaki through the school halls, the two of you not wanting anything to do with the gym training that Nejire and Mirio were doing with the Students that had taken under their wings so to speak.
Tamaki kept his eyes on you the whole time you walked together, your entire presence captivating the male. He was so intrigued to find someone who was like him, that wasn't loud and outgoing and that was really sweet as well.
"Does that sound okay with you Tama?" You ask, snapping Tamaki from his daze.
"H-Huh?" He asks softly as he looks down to hide is embarrassment of missing your entire question.
"I asked if it sounded okay for us to go to my place to study since you brought up that you needed somewhere quiet to study. Mirio and Nejire don't know my dorm number yet so we would be in a safe and quite place~" you chime out to him, a smile dancing it's way across your lips
"T-That sounds perfect Y/N..I would r-really appreciate it" he says, looking up to me your happy gaze which only causes a small smile to tug at his own lips.
You giggle softly and nods "come on then slow poke. We have to get there before everyone starts coming home.." you say softly and hold you hand out for him, offering another gentle smile to the male.
Tamaki blushes but takes you hand and starts walking a bit faster as to keep up with you as you lead him to your dorm room. You smile and rub the top of his hand with your thumb as you could still feel his nerves going crazy.
Soon enough you were at your dorm you and you opened the door before moving to let him in. "It's a little messy but we can still get work done.." you murmur as you follow behind him before sitting down on your bed, him following and sitting next to you.
You smile up at him and pull all your homework from your bag before starting to work on it. You felt his gaze on you, but didn't want to make him more anxious so you kept your gaze on your work.
After a few hours of working, Tamaki looks up when he feels a sudden heavy weight on his left side, mainly his arm. He looks down and his face flushes when he sees you had fallen asleep on him, pencil still in hand. "Y-Y/N..." he whispers and shakily brushes your hair from your face.
He bites his lip and slowly sides your homework from your lap and moves it to your desk. He then puts his back in his bag carefully before laying down onto your bed. He pulls you with him as he curls up to keep you warm as your blanket had been moved to the floor already.
He sighs softly and smiles gently as he looks at your sleeping form "you look like a little bunny more than a kitty.." he murmurs to himself before his own eyes close and he falls asleep with you close in his arms.
You yawn as you wake up, looking around before you finally felt the weight of someone next to you. You started to panic before looking up, your mind instantly easing when you saw Tamaki sleeping soundly next to you still. He curled up close to you, his hair covering half of his face but you could still see how cute he looked as he slept.
You slowly get out of his arms and pull your phone from your bag, looking to see a few messages from Nejire.
🦄 Nejire-Chan
Hey have you seen Tamaki? (8:30 pm)
Y/Ninnie? Mirio and I cant get a hold of Tamaki at all...I'm getting worried (10 pm)
Ah, he finally answered! Sorry if I woke you two~ didn't know you were having a little date! Don't get wild on our Kitten okay? (2 am)
You roll your eyes at the messages before grabbing a hoodie from your floor before heading down to the common area to make breakfast. You finished up cooking and headed back up to your dorm, not wanting to eat downstairs where it was all quiet and alone. You opened the door to your dorm and smile to see Tamaki awake, rubbing his eyes.
Once his eyes landed on you, his face flushed red "Y-Y/N...why do you have my hoodie on?" He asks softly
You look down and blush "ah I-I had just grabbed one from the floor. I'm sorry Tama! I'll take it off." You say softly but he stops you before you can even set your food down "K-Keep it on. You look c-cute" he said with a big smile.
Tumblr media
After a few weeks and getting to know everyone in the agency, you were allowed out on patrols with Tamaki. He was very hesitant at first to have anyone but Fatgum with him, but with Kirishima now in the agency, someone had to help and train the first year.
You happily walked next to Tamaki and looked around, "it's different doing Hero Studies over here. My last hero study was just paperwork.." you sighed out, your tone of voice much louder since you were just around Tamaki, spooking the male a bit.
Tamaki looks to you and tilts his head "really?" He asks as he looks down at you "t-they should at least let you watch patrols even if you don't do anything. F-Fatgum trusts us rather well but most heros get to do patrols by their third year.." he spoke and then looked up when he heard a scream that was just around the corner.
You both rushed around the corner and Tamaki instantly looked around before he saw a woman on the ground. He walked over and began to assess the wounds she had as you looked around to find any culprit. Soon enough, you had your answer as you were grabbed and pulled down the alleyway.
You squeal and try to fight back before looking to Tamaki, making eye contact and seeing his body start to panic before everything went black as a hand holding a rather soaked rag was placed over your nose an mouth.
Tamaki stood still in shock, his body unable to move as he watched you get taken. He shook himself back to reality and instant pulled his phone out to call Fatgum and then Neijire and Mirio.
"W-what do I do..?" He whispers into the phone as he starts rushing around to see if he could spot you at all.
"Well, calm down first off. You won't do anything good when you're panicking Tamaki. We all know that.." Nejire said as she sighed, Mirio leaning to speak up once she was done.
"You need to look down alleys and inlets mostly. It sounds like the villain that took Y/N doesn't have a quirk since your victim had been cut and then Y/N was drugged. He couldn't have gotten that far.."
Tamaki only nods before shakily sighing into the phone "w-what if she's really hurt..its our first patrol and she's already gotten taken and she's gonna be hurt and hate everything." He said as fast as his mouth would allow him and felt tears start streaming down his face
"Tama...calm down. Me and Mirio will come help look for her as well as some of the other heroes okay? She'll be just fine!" Nejire said as she tried to cheer the anxious male up, but it only made his stomach churn when he heard the words "She'll be fine". He knew you would be fine but he could only think of the worst and he didn't want you to hate him or not trust him anymore.
After 5 hours and a few pros coming in to help, you were finally found. You were bruised and bloody, but mostly okay. Tamaki looks at your body and starts whimpering, his whole body shaking as tears start falling down his cheeks.
Nejire looks over and runs to hug him, pulling his face down to her shoulder to let him cry. "She's okay Tamaki...I promise. I know you care for her but you need to calm down. Everything will be okay..." she murmurs and runs his back before taking him over to one of the cars that had been called "let's head to the dorm.." she whispers and pulls him into the car with her.
Tumblr media
Weeks pass and you were still holed up in your dorm, not able to do anything as you were waiting on your broken ankle to heal. Nejire and Mirio were persistent on bringing you any homework you guys had, and always told you what had happened in class before giving you an apologetic look when you asked about Tamaki.
You knew he had felt bad for what had happened but you missed him, you didn't know why exactly as you had never felt this way about anyone but your heart hurt when you were away from him. You had never thought about loving someone as you were focused on school but you just felt complete around Tamaki and you needed to see him.
You grab you phone and pull his contact up, before hitting the video call button. You attempted 3 times, the first 2 times being rejected before he finally answered.
"W-What do you want Y/N?" He asks quietly as he laid his phone on his desk, so you were only able to see the ceiling of his dorm.
"I want to talk to you and I really want to see you Tama.." you say softly and adjust yourself on you bed. "Come to my dorm..please" you whisper and get a pouty tone.
"Why..? I-I let you get hurt and y-you're broken now..." he said and you could hear his hiccups, your heart breaking know that he was crying.
"Tamaki, broken bones heal and bruises disappear...please come see me..I need to see you..." you whine out "I don't like hearing you cry..."
You were only met with the video call ending. You looked at your phone surprised and sat there stunned on your bed before you heard a knock at your door and then the door opening. Tamaki walks in quietly and looks at you before he completely breaks. He starts shaking and crying, covering his face as he does.
"Oh Tama...come here.." you speak out and open your arms, the male instantly coming over to hide in your neck, his sobs calming down as he did.
"Its okay...I'm here okay? I'm not dead...I'll be fine soon." You hum before looking down to him.
Tamaki looks up to you and whispers "Y/N...I'm so sorry. I didn't want to see you because I felt so guilty about getting you hurt but the guilt was worse than just that. I-I think I l-love you.." he finishes and his face flushes red. "My h-heart started hurting when I let you get taken and not seeing you for these weeks has only made it worse.." he whines out
"I love you too Tamaki...my body can't handle being away from you. I hope you will come see me more now..." you say with a gentle smile
Tamaki nods "I-I'll come see you if you'll be my little bunny?" He asks with a sweet smile
You laugh and nod, smiling brightly as you press a kiss to his nose.
"Of course I'll be your Bunny.."

52. Accidentally witnessed kiss
(i know that you technically did this when karl hid from the sheriff but i love the trope of someone just being :0 when they see two people smooching)
it could be a kiss between two (any duo like mason and jack or jack and karl) people.
or someone could catch all 3 of them smooching. connor/flint could be the one to catch them. like theyre trying to rob john john and mason and jack just go to tie karl up so he can’t get help. (ofc this robbery is lighthearted it’s treated as like a casual hang out) but connor just catches all three of them making out.
or you could do another idea!! i love reading your drabbles it’s really fun! your ideas are always so good <3
Thank you so much for the suggestion! Unfortunately they each take a long time to make and with the lack of questions and ideas, I'm running out of new content to give you all! If you all could send in questions or ideas that would really help!
I think I'll try writing the three of them together! I really like your idea of a light hearted robbery that's treated like a casual hang out!
-------------------
"What do you think your doing?"
The three bandits turned to look at the man who had interrupted their daily robbery. Karl was standing in the doorway with his arms crossed and a cold glare of disapproval aimed at the three trouble makers. He was even leaning to one side just enough for the gun on his belt to be in clear view of the three. He looked like he ment business.
"Mornin Karl," Jack greeted casually, "You're doin way better at bein scary today!"
Karl's hard glare immediately melted into a shy smile, a light blush growing over his cheeks.
"Thanks," He mumbled as he made his way over to the bar, "Thompson gave me some pointers yesterday and I've been doing my best to practice!" Taking a seat between Jack and Mason.
Mason nodded approvingly, "Well they're workin! I was almost scared for a moment there." He laughed loudly as Karl softly swated his arm with an offended gasp.
"Hey, if any one could teach Karl to be scary, it's Thompson." John John defended the colorful sheriff, passing him a drink.
Karl thanked the teen as Jack called out to him,"So you gonna arrest us today sheriff or what?"
The sheriff smiled before putting on an exaggerated British accent, "Only if you continue to rudely rob this fine establishment." He claimed wiggling his pointer finger at them. He looked like a disappointed teacher who just caught a kid disobeying the rules.
The three bandits burst out laughing at his face, Karl quickly melting into giggles himself.
Mason composed himself and managed to taunt Karl a little. Snickering out,"Too bad for you, we don't plan on stopping." With a playful smirk on his face before going to take a sip of his drink.
"Yah, keep messing with us and we'll have to tie you up sheriff." Connor added on jokingly.
Mason started choking on his drink and Jack did a double take as Connor immediately realized what that sounded like. Karl and John John both seemed to miss the unintentional joke, seeming more confused and concerned respectively.
Karl looked over to Jack with a questioning expression as John John took Mason's cup and turned around to find a rag to clean it with.
"Yah sheriff," Jack leaned closer with a mischievous smile, "We'll have to tie you up."
Karl took a second before his face turned a bright red. He took a second to roll the thought through his mind and blushed even harder. Taking a breath he looked between the other two's faces and saw encouraging and understanding looks staring at him.
A little quieter then before, Karl put on the exaggerated accent, "As a sheriff it is my jo-"
He was cut off by Mason lifting him off his chair with a small yelp of surprise. Mason started strolling towards the sheriff's room in the back of the saloon with Jack quickly trailing behind him.
Jack called over his shoulder, "You keep on robbin' Connor, we'll be right back!"
The three disappeared around the corner just as John John turned around with the freshly cleaned glass in hand.
"Where are they going?" He asked Connor. "They didn't finish their drinks."
Connor mentally cursed the trio as he clumsily replied, "Like they said, I'm sure they'll be right back. We were talkin about doin somethin for Sherman's birthday, right?"
John lit up, excitedly chatting about gift ideas for the piglin. Connor kept John distracted as long as possible with mindless chatter and story's. Eventually, his luck ran out and John John asked him, "It's been over a half hour, where did they go?" Fiddling nervously with his new watch that was given to him by Karl.
"I'm sure they're fine," He reassured John, but before he could bring the discussion back, a muffled thump sounded from the back of the saloon.
John started to shuffle out from behind the counter. "What was that? Did something fall?" He asked nervously.
Connor could think of a few different reasons and none of them were things he wanted John John to walk in on. He rushed out a gentle,"You stay here. I'll go check it out. I'm sure it's fine. Probably just a book or something." He passed John his empty glass.
John nodded while taking the glass. "Hurry back," he called as Connor hurried away from the conversation.
"Oh I will," Connor mumbled to himself as he slowed down to a slow meandering pace. Hoping that if he went slow enough that the three would suddenly appear back at the bar with out the chance of walking in on any scene's.
As he stolled closer to Karl's room at a snails pace, he noticed the lack of sound that he could hear. He hoped it stayed like that while he shuffled closer and closer.
He neared the door and noticed that it was cracked open slightly. From within he could hear the faint ruffle of fabric and kissing noises. He stood there awkwardly, not really knowing what to do in the moment. Sure he had walked in on Mason and Jack making out before, but they were either in a back alley or in a room with a locked door, and he had never walked in on them with Karl before. It was such an awkward situation.
He debated turning around and telling John that Karl just dropped a book, but he knew the kid would ask more questions and he really didn't want the kid to decide to investigate himself.
Sending a prayer he slowly leaned forwards and peaked into the bedroom. He spotted a tangled mess of legs on the bed. All of them with pants on! He mentally cheered.
Curiosity edged him to peak the rest of the way. He reasoned with himself that not looking would just make his brain keep nagging him about it later. He immediately blushed at the scene in front of him.
Karl wasn't wearing his coat, which would have been jarring in any other situation, but seemed more than natural while he was sandwiched between the other two bandits. Mason was laying on his back with Karl's back pressed against his chest, kissing and biting at Karl's neck. Jack was laying on top of Karl, chest to chest, and kissing Karl like he was a lifeline. Karl's arms were tucked behind his back out of Connors view, kept there by something he couldn't see.
Connor decided that he had seen more than enough and turned silently around to head back to John John.
Who was halfway down the hallway and getting closer by the second.
"John!" He yelped loudly. Wincing as he heard a startled yelp and resulting thud come from the room beside him.
Evidently, so did John, who quickened his pace.
"Hey, John John! I thought you were still at the bar." Connor called loudly alerting the three to both of their presences outside. From the quiet "shit" and rustling of fabric, he's pretty sure they got the message.
"You were taking forever," John explained, not slowing down in the slightest as he closed in on the bedroom, "And what just fell? That sounded heavier than a book."
John John gasped in surprise as he darted past Connor. "Karl! Your neck! It's all bruised up!" He pointed out as he seemingly ignored the fact that Jack was sprawled out on the floor or the fact that all three of them were bright red in the face.
"Oh," Karl squeaked out,"Is it?"
"Yes it is!" John wrapped an arm gently around Karl and guided him out of the room. "Come on, I've got some medical supplies downstairs. I'll patch you up real quick."
Connor watched the sheriff get dragged off and scolded by the young bartender. Once they were out of ear shoot he turned back to the rest of the Democrat Haters.
Both were thankfully mostly clothed with their vests on the floor somewhere. Mason fiddled with Jack's bandana in his hand as the two had the decency to look sheepish about the whole incident.
"Really?"
"YOU BROUGHT IT UP FIRST!"

That took awhile! Sorry for the long wait!

.
Second: Fears and Desires
Rushing out of the building, you made a quick run for the closest bus stop, trying to supress every urge to look back in case someone could be following you. With their identity being unknown and the box being successfully delivered on your behalf meant huge trouble for you and it left you incredibly nervous to stay in the same place as that anonymous. For whatever reason someone decided to deliver the box. Who could it be?
With your heart racing all the way in your throat, you thought that this situation would be the worst. Turning a sharp corner that led to the main road, you collided harshly with a sturdy chest, the person's arms flying out to catch your falling figure. Hands slid around your waist and steadied you up carefully.
Realizing your eyes were squeezed shut, you opened your eyes to be met with familiar ones. You slowly died inside.
“Careful,” he murmured as he took in your scared expression.
Stepping away from him, you tried to brush off the feeling of pining. You'd been working way too hard to avoid him for you to meet him exactly when you were running away red-handed. “What are you doing here?”
He shook his head gently as his gaze slowly took in your features. It made you shudder. “My workplace is not far away, remember?”
Gulping, you nodded, letting out a breathy snort as you looked down on the pavement. “Right. Silly of me to ask.”
“Are you okay?”
“I missed you,” you blurted at the same time and looked up at him. “Oppa.”
Baekhyun was frozen just for a moment before he stepped closer to you with the gentlest of smiles. Slowly, he reached up with his hand and cradled your cheek. “I missed you too, pretty.”
Pretty. Ah, how you missed that nickname.
“Then kiss me,” you let out boldly and you expected him to be surprised or even scold you for being so demanding but he surprised you.
“Oh, yeah,” he murmured, leaning in. “I will, now that you're finally here.” You helped him out by standing on your tip-toes while you let your arms circle around his neck, and his hands slid back to your waist. His lips touched yours gently, carefully, before you hummed and pushed yourself more into him, urging him to deepen the kiss.
He growled when he felt your chest press up to his and his grip tightened while one of his hands came up to your neck, tilting your head so he could have better access. With a simple lick of his tongue, he was inside and you were whimpering, gasping, panting. So, so needy for him. You groaned, feeling the strong attraction you both shared. It seemed that no matter how much you hated him, it was always present. You would always be bewitched by Byun Baekhyun.
He was still hungrily claiming your lips when he reached up for your arms and brought them down until he had your hands in his. He fumbled with them for a while and you smiled, expecting him to intertwine your hands. Just the feeling of his smooth hands on yours made the butterflies in your tummy flutter their wings.
Then you heard a click.
Baekhyun kissed you one last time, his lips puckering, before slowly leaning back and taking in your scared eyes when you felt cold metal around your wrists.
“Lee Nari,” he breathed, the puffs of hot air on your wet lips, “I arrest you for illegal drug distribution.”
><
Gasping loudly, you sat straight up in your bed, the aftermath of your nightmare still present and fresh in front of your eyes while you tried to shake off the dread and the terrible pull in your lower tummy. Why the hell were you sexually frustrated when he arrested you again?
“What is it?” you heard from beside you, a confused and sleepy Yuyeon. “Nari? Are you okay?” she was next to you within a second, the early morning sun lighting up the room softly through the light curtains. She saw you touching your lips while tears were rolling down your cheeks. “Goodness, was the dream that bad?” she asked again carefully and sat on your bed.
You whimpered, still shocked, and reached out for your best friend, wrapping your arms around her to get a feel of reality. “Just… it was ridiculous. So ridiculous, Yuyeonah,” you muttered, sniffing, flashes of Baekhyun's face ever-present and lively. That was certainly not how you imagined the first meeting with him to go.
“It was just a bad dream,” consoled Yuyeon gently, rubbing your back in circles. “None if it is real, Nari.”
You nodded and pressed your lips together.
Just a bad dream.
><
“Are you okay?” Someone muttered to your ear, successfully scaring the living daylights out of you.
You heard that sentence in your dream.
Turning around abruptly with wide eyes, you spot Chul who was smiling at you cheekily.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you. You just look a little absent-minded, he explained, scratching his neck as he looked at the ground.
You sighed. “I’m fine. But thanks for worrying.”
He nodded and wanted to say something before hesitating. You raised a questioning eyebrow, silently asking him what was up.
“Was everything fine after I left?”
Oh. You completely forgot to let him know the mission was successful since you were so freaked out by the unexplainable events. “Yes!” you squeaked. “It went perfectly!”
“Great! I received the confirmation text but you never followed up with an update.” He laughed. “Then we can focus on your run in the festival!”
You groaned and started stomping towards your classroom. “I really, really like REALLY don’t wanna do it.”
He followed you, snickering. “You’re our ace, Nari.” He hugged your shoulders with his arm and pressed you to his side. “If you won’t attend, nobody will come and watch!”
Puffing your hair out of your face, you silently fumed. “I already said okay to the darn MCing with that bitc- singer.”
“Were you just about to call her a bitch?” asked Chul, shocked as he maneuvered you through the crowded corridors. Students were giving you looks, some whispering when they spotted Chul, the famous boy.
“Ah, no, not at all,” you grumbled, not bothering to hide your sarcasm.
Chul chuckled and you stopped in front of your class. “You can be so feisty. Either way, bring this spirit to the running track. We are starting from today!”
“But-but I want to go out to the bar-“
Chul clicked his tongue. “I will gladly take you to a bar if you come to the practice.”
Not even stopping to think it over, you quickly complied: “You’ll buy me a drink, right? Oppa?” you added with a mischievous glint in your eyes.
He observed you for a moment, an amused smile splayed on his face. “Sure, Nari. A drink it is.”
“Deal!”
><
“Faster, Lee!” shouted coach Lim when you finished the second round, heaving loudly like a horse. “If you want to win an award for us you will have to do better than that!”
With bitter realization, you noticed how he reminded you of your beloved math teacher back in high school. Unfortunately, you weren’t that good at sports but you were still better than math.
“Okay, got it,” you exhaled harshly, coming to a full stop.
You saw the sun already setting, the cold air turning your hot breaths into condensation. You could practically feel your nose turning red.
“Hey, Rudolf!” Chul.
You snapped your head at him, glaring. “Do not mock me. You’ve dragged me into this yet you seem very unaffected.”
He laughed, walking over to you. “You already forgot why I am the president of the student council?” He quirked an eyebrow at you. “I’m good at everything.”
You rolled your eyes. “Okay then you win the award for us.”
“Nuh-uh. It’s gotta be you,” he winked at you.
Too tired to bother fighting with him, you quickly went to change into your clothes, deciding you would take a shower once you got back from the smelly bar. Surely you stinking wouldn’t bother people too much. Plus, it wasn’t like you were trying to impress Chul anyway.
Meeting the senior outside, you headed for the closest bar, bickering on the way. Once inside he bought you a drink just as promised and you were fast to gulp down half of the cocktail.
“So, I’ve been wanting to discuss some matters with you,” started Chul, looking at you in amusement when you took another big gulp. “Just some other stuff that has to be taken care of about the festival.”
You whined and leaned your forehead into your palm. “Why now? We should do that at the student council.”
“You’re my right hand, Lee,” reasoned smoothly Chul and took a sip of his beer. The frothy foam left a small white mustache and it made you giggle. You motioned for him to get rid of it and he quickly licked it off. “Anyway,” he started with a laugh, “you’ll take care of the security team of the festival. Make sure to book the bodyguards and police guards around. We will have famous artists there so security should be our number one priority at all costs.”
You hummed, faking thinking. You ignored your rapid heartbeat at the mention of police, some flashbacks of your dream quickly chasing you down. Nodding, you hid your face behind the cup as you took another sip and looked around the place as if expecting to see the familiar face in the crowd just like you did on the night you met him.
“I kind of want to pass on this one,” you finally replied as you put down your glass.
“Why is that?”
Sighing, you pursed your lips not wanting to elaborate on your actual thinking pattern. “Just feels weird to talk to the police and blah blah blah,” you rolled your eyes. “I’m already doing so much for the festival, Chul, don’t you think?”
Chul observed you for a moment. “I’m sorry. I feel like a total jerk for always throwing all the responsibilities at you but I really am only giving you those tasks that require the most able person.”
“Oh.” You didn’t think about that. After all, Chul was right. You were kind of like a right hand to him, doing a lot of jobs in the behind the scenes whenever there were events happening at the school.
“And I heard that you might have connections at the police so I thought we could use that to our advantage,” he continued, hesitating when he noticed your sour expression. “Am I wrong?”
Your slight scowl turned into a frown. “Who the hell told you that?”
He blinked a couple of times. “Well, she told me it’s a secret so…”
“Chul?”
“Yeah,” he looked at your hard expression, prompting him to answer you. You swore you would kill Oh Sehun, you were sure it was him.
“Yuyeon. It was Yuyeon.”
Your mouth opened in shock. You thought you heard wrong. “What? What did she tell you though?” And why would Yuyeon talk to a person she didn't like? You knew her well and she voiced, or at least showed, how she didn't like Chul. In her opinion, he was too friendly with everyone.
Chul laughed unsurely, a little perplexed at the change of your behavior. “Nothing! I mean... she mentioned a boyfriend-“
“I never had a boyfriend at the police station,” you declared quickly. “I hardly know anyone there so I don’t think I can help you in this matter.”
Chul nodded, immediately complying while his hands played with the cup in his hands. “Right, sorry. Maybe I’ve heard wrong. You’d be too young to date a police officer anyway.” He took note of your sudden unreadable expression and when you didn’t reply, he added: “Then I don’t see a problem why you can’t take care of the matters! Since you don’t have a boyfriend at the station.”
You sucked your lips in, mulling over his words. It wouldn’t hurt if you’d ask for favors from Yuyeon or Sehun, right? They could call in with your name and that way you wouldn’t have to worry about the possibility of accidentally talking to Byun Baekhyun. Either way, it was hard to win an exclusive chat with the big captain himself, so eventually, you didn’t see that much of a problem with it. And, it was a must that nobody could find out about any kind of connection with him. People would know you were underaged or could think you were too easy and had a beneficial relationship with him. That could totally ruin your image — because you didn’t care about his for sure!
“Okay,” you agreed with a timid nod, avoiding Chul’s eyes. “I’ll do it.” Managing to fake a strained smile you finally looked up to catch him studying you.
“If it makes you uncomfortable—“
“No, it’s absolutely fine,” you chirped in and threw the remaining cocktail into your mouth. If you pretended it was hard alcohol maybe you could slowly start swimming in nothingness and forget about him.
It was unfair that he’d been chasing you in your dream. It felt so real. Even the kissing was so believable it made chills run down your spine. “I’m gonna order another one,” you decided, already standing up. “I need it.”
Chul nodded slowly, hesitantly, and shook his head when you asked him whether he wanted another one.
Walking over to the busy bar, you caught the waiter and ordered yourself another cocktail when a tall figure appeared next to you.
“Is this your fourth already?” He asked nonchalantly, looking around. He was one head taller than you so it wasn’t like you were obscuring his view. “Jez, woman, when was the last time you took a shower?”
Rolling your eyes, you waved your hand to finally bring his attention to you. “You don't even pay attention to me but dare to comment on my hygiene.” You clicked your tongue disappointedly. “I’m right here, Sehun, and no it isn’t my fourth. But I’m getting there,” you rumbled and tapped your fingers impatiently on the worn-down surface of the wooden bar table.
“Why are you here with Chul?”
“Cause you didn’t ask me to hang out,” you pouted and innocently blinked a few times.
Sehun elbowed you gently. “I was meeting someone else today. And anyways, you’ve been always busy during a weekday - you don’t have work tonight, right?”
Making a grimace at the mention of your work, you turned back to the barista, watching him mix your cocktail. “No, tonight I’m free. And I had my first training, Sehun. I will die if I have to continue preparing for that damn race,” you whined, turning abruptly to him.
“I’ll help you with the training. I promise I’m more fun than coach Lim! I hear he is rather hot-headed,” he said with a glint in his eyes. “You know I won’t scold you.”
You frowned like a kid. “Run the race for me then.”
Sehun sighed and when the barista brought you your cocktail he quickly ordered two whiskeys.
Your eyebrows shot up to your hairline. “You’re going hard tonight.” Immediately you took a sip of your drink and felt an instant relief. While still playing with the straw, you looked up at your friend. “Who’re you here with anyway?”
Sehun gave you a look. “Uh, just a friend.” He shrugged. He was thankful for the crowded bar tonight. “We are just catching up.”
“Great!” You smiled brightly and put your cocktail down. “Do I know him? Or her?” you winked.
“Eh—“ Sehun hesitated and his eyes fell on someone behind you, following the person with his eyes for a moment. He then quickly took your cocktail and pushed it into your hand. “Nari, you shouldn’t have Chul wait for you. I’ll see you at school.”
You pouted, frowning. “Yah, are you trying to get rid of me?!”
“No, I'm really not but just go. I’m doing you a favor here.”
You were about to scoff and retort to him something ugly for daring to kick you out like that, when another figure appeared next to Sehun. “I have an urgent phone call. I’ll be back soon, Sehun.”
You stared at Byun Baekhyun with your mouth hanging slightly open. His hair was pushed from his forehead, leaving space to admire his handsome features and the wrinkle-free forehead. His jawline was sharp and you zoomed in on those lips and the way they showed his lower teeth whenever he opened his mouth. He was absolutely breath-taking and he kissed you last night in your dream. He arrested you, too.
Baekhyun finally looked at the person Sehun had been chatting with, intending to acknowledge their presence but maybe he shouldn’t have. Having Lee Nari staring at him that way still pulled on his insides.
It was exactly three seconds and you sensed Sehun nodding to himself awkwardly, obviously thinking well, I told you to leave, but he didn't have to speak indirectly no more. You dashed. You literally dashed along with your cocktail, not bothering about spilling it all over yourself in the process, not bothering to say bye to Sehun, let alone acknowledging Baekhyun's presence. You swore you wouldn't do it. So you didn't.
Your heart was wild and scarily loud as you hastily approached Chul and slid down into your chair, bringing breeze along with you. He locked his phone he’d been playing with while you were away but when he saw your disheveled state, he blurted: “Nari? What happened? Are you okay?”
You were staring at him, desperately trying not to look where Sehun and Baekhyun were.
“It’s fine.”
“Did someone try to do something?” He looked back over his shoulder and he directly spotted Sehun and he must have seen Baekhyun, too. They had their heads connected now, an intense talk going on. “Hey, that’s Oh Sehun with someone.”
“Yeah, I chatted with him for a moment. Anyway, I’m here now. Let’s continue the talk.”
Chul took a moment longer before he finally turned around and faced you. He caught you gulping down half of the cocktail and sighed. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes, I am.” Your eyes wandered on their own accord and you caught eyes with Baekhyun as he was leaving the bar. He was carefully making his way through the crowd, his phone in his hands, most probably tending to that urgent phone call he mentioned. He must have still been a workaholic.
To your utter horror, he wasn’t a coward. You should have known better than to follow him with your stare, for Baekhyun kept his look on you, observing you expressionlessly until he couldn’t do so anymore and until he was out of the bar.
He would hunt you all the time.
And you, as mature and as confident you acted a year ago when you told him there might be a chance of you two starting over again, you realized you probably matured backwards during that time. Anger, hatred, passion - they were all burning up inside of you and all the unwanted memories came flooding back.
Biting down hard on your lip, you willed away the tears. Lee Nari was not someone who would cry just over anyone and she wouldn't get fooled twice.
It was just the realization that you would never be able to build your bridges up with him again that made you want to weep. Even though you wanted to, you found it almost impossible in that moment.
><><><><><
A/N: Whew. I had a little bit of a rough time with this one because it is so slow-paced and already a little complex (in my head). What did you think? I got you fooled there in the beginning heheh It was just a dream in case you are still not sure! Though you never know with Captain Bucheon, hm?
Please let me know your thoughts!! :)

An Eye for an Eye.
This “short” story is how the Robbie I personally write lost his eye, replacing it with a guardian one. It’s the biggest reasoning to how he is at the present with his paranoia and fears. It started all from this.
TW: Eye horror and gore -- "Listen up! From now on there will be no breaks. No moments of rest. Out in the field-" A Sheikah warrior spoke loudly in front of multiple young Sheikah. All of them in uniform, getting ready for the ultimate test - to survive out in the real world. "Now then... is everyone here?" The Teacher spoke. A young boy raised his hand, looking worried. The teacher sighed, "What is it?" "Robert is late again." The kid spoke. The teacher clicked his tongue, "This is the last time he-"      𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙢.
All the students screamed and looked behind them. There he was, all covered in grease and smoke. A young Sheikah, roughly sixteen walks over and sits down as if nothing happened. All of them...      𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨. "Robert-!" Robert glanced up, wiping his dirty face with his arm, "Yes sir?" Without a moment to react, the teacher's hand is raised then...     𝗦𝗹𝗮𝗽. Robert flinched as his face was turned to the side as his cheek began to sting. The teacher slapped his cheek and pointed at him, "You think you can play with ancient technology like that? And 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 it no less? You are a Sheikah 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧, not 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧. Get your hands 𝙤𝙛𝙛 of them. Do you understand?" The Sheikah warrior teacher glared daggers at him. His red eyes meeting theirs, trembling a bit and nods. "Yes sir..." Robert swallows nervously, looking down. The teacher walks back to the front. All of the other students whispering, laughing, mocking...      S t a r i n g ... Robert couldn't handle all their judging eyes on him. "What did you do?" Another Sheikah whispers over at Robert, smiling. Robert leans over, whispering back, "Replaced some wiring... just as an experiment. Guess it didn't like that." The other gasps, "That is so cool...you have to show me sometime!" "CHILDREN." The teacher clapped, causing the two Sheikah teens to flinch, looking at them. "Pay ATTENTION. This is the most important test. Do you understand?" They both nod. Robert smirks a bit and leans back to the other, "...wanna see it later?" The other nods quickly and grins. -- The ultimate test... Surviving out in the field with all the techniques that have been taught. Of course, Robert was smart. He knew the techniques, sure. But he wasn't... good with them. The other Sheikah kid from before was following him as they wandered in a wooded area. He was much better skilled than Robert was in sneaking, fighting... With time – he could be a warrior. If he wasn’t so misbehaved like Robert was. They were the most... troublesome in the class. "So, we have to... just survive for a few days? Easy!" The other Sheikah smirked, putting their arms behind their head as they stretched. "Maybe we could steal the other's stuff. Then we will survive even better. Steal their weapons too." Robert sighs, shaking his head, "Then they wouldn't have a chance, M." The other shook his head and crossed his arms, "Robert, the key to surviving is making sure they don't steal from 𝘶𝘴. This is survival now. What are you going to do if you don't act? Use the guardians to make them forfeit?" Robert suddenly smiled. The other blinked and sighed. "...Robert, you'll just blow our cover with another explosion." Robert smirks, snapping his fingers and points at him, "That is what you think, 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘬𝘰! I know what I did wrong to make it malfunction last time... I'll get it this time; I am sure if it!" Robert runs around, looking for a nearby guardian. Misko quickly follows behind him, skidding to a stop. Tapping Robert's shoulder and points. Turning around Robert opens his mouth, Misko immediately turns Robert's face towards the guardian stuck in the ground, five legs poking out of the ground. "Eureka! Let's go, Misko!" Robert quickly rushes over to the Guardian and walks around it, looking for... Ah!   There it was. Robert presses a button and the head pops open, showing a bunch of wiring and parts. Misko walks over and gasps, his eyes widened in awe. He never... seen the insides of what a Guardian looked like until now. As Misko's jaw was dropped, Robert was already fiddling with the wiring. Ripping them out and mixing them in different places. "..." Misko took a step forward, watching Robert tear apart the black and blue wires. He jumps back as Robert took two wires and put them together, causing a zap - making himself jump a bit. "Ouch!" Robert yelled and quickly put his burnt finger in his mouth. "...You sure you know what you are doing?" Misko asked, a little nervous, "I was just kidding about the Guardian thing. If it explodes, I'm outta here and leaving you behind." "You would miss me if you did that!" Robert laughed and put the wires back together, another zap, "I'm trying to jumpstart this doohickey... just give me a few minutes then this will be as good as ours!" Robert smiles widely as he rips more wires and presses them together. Zap.    Zap.    ... 𝘉𝘻𝘻𝘻𝘵. Misko groans and leans against a tree while waiting, glancing around just in case other students come by. Or worse - their teacher. "Come on...!" Robert bites his lip and takes another wire, placing the new one with the older one. A blue hue faintly appears in the corner of Misko's eye and gasps, fully turning around. "Robert! Look!" Blinking, he jumps back and the Guardian's head shuts and twists left and right. Robert freezes up and swallows. He prayed it wouldn't explode this time. The Guardian's head stops and looks at Robert. Misko walks over and looks up in awe once again then hits his arm playfully. "You did it!" Misko laughed in shock, he didn't know how he did it - but he was a genius! “Y-Yeah! I did!" Robert smiles and pats the guardian while looking at Misko, "Now nothing will stop us. We will definitely survive with this on our side." Misko's happy expression suddenly drops, looking absolutely terrified. Robert blinks, tilting his head, "Misko...?" Misko grabs Robert's hand and runs, sudden a blast from the Guardian fires right after. Robert screams, looking back as it starts to stand up from the ground and chases after them, aiming a laser at them. "No! No! This isn't right! It's supposed to listen to us!" "I knew this was a bad idea!" Misko yells back and rushes behind a giant rock, pulling Robert beside him to hide. "You GAVE me the idea, Misko!" Robert screams, immediately Misko's hand covered his mouth as they hear the eerie 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗣.    𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗣.     𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗣. … of the guardian near them. 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. Robert shoves his hand away from his mouth and pokes his head out looking at it. It was... amazing. He got it to work... Him. Without any of those fancy tools. This was HIS work. Despite being hunted down by it right now, he was pretty proud of himself. Misko quickly pulls him back down and hushes him, he poked his head out and took out throwing knives from his pocket, swallowing nervously. They were not trained enough for this, 𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘵. Robert, glancing down stops him and whispers, “Don’t damage it! I brought it back to life, I just need to get close to it and rewire it again!” Misko shoves him off, shaking his head, “You’ll get killed, no way am I letting you near that thing.” Misko huffs and dashes to a near tree with Sheikah speed, quickly glancing back at the Guardian. It turns its head, seeing Misko and scurries towards him, laser aiming... aiming... Misko, suddenly frozen by fear can only watch. “Misko, move!” Robert screams and pushes him out of the way as the beam strikes, just slightly hitting Robert’s face, causing him to immediately scream out in pain. Misko quickly gets back up and a hand stops Misko. Looking up he sees their teacher in full uniform ready to fight. Many other Sheikah warriors suddenly appear, all attacking the haywire guardian. Robert, covering his wound with his hand, stares at the horror of the guardian he just fixed. With his remaining eye he could only stare at it... being torn apart. Piece by piece. Legs first. Causing it to be still. That alone was enough to cause it to stop working. The teacher brings Misko to the side, Robert turns, watching Misko talking to the teacher looking... guilty. He glances at Robert time to time. The teacher’s eyes widen and turns his head at Robert.     B u s t e d. Without a word, their teacher grabs Robert by the arm and drags him back to the training grounds. Turning his head, he looks at the guardian, frowning. Misko quietly follows with that guilty expression on his face all the way back. Robert had a feeling he knew what was going to happen. -- “You’re out.” The teacher crossed his arms, looking down at Robert. The young Sheikah slowly tilts his head up, clenching his jaw from the pain of what was left from the beam. He hasn’t seen what he looks like, however he knew it wasn’t going to be pretty. The medics had to wrap multiple bandages and cloths around his left eye. Some said with proper healing, he would be able to see. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙡𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧. Robert wasn’t stupid – he knew his eye was never going to heal. He winced as tears built up. Could his left eye even form tears anymore? “Sheikah warriors need both their eyes. You can no longer be here like this. You failed the test – now leave.” “But I have nowhere else to go...” The young Sheikah pleaded, “Please, I have to be a warrior, there’s nothing left for me...” The teacher shook his head, “Robert... You cannot stay here in this condition. Unless your eye heals fully and can function as it used to... You know that will not happen with a wound that bad.” His ears drooped as he tilted his head down. This was his home and he was getting kicked out... again. “Pack your things and leave before dawn.” The teacher walks out of the room and pauses, placing his hand against the door frame, holding his head down. “... I’m sorry.” He could only mutter out. He felt bad for the kid; he’ll never see properly ever again. Now he was kicked out? If he could only have it his way, he’d make sure Robert could have stayed. Maybe even calling him his own...    However, it was not his decision. The teacher walks out and leaves Robert alone in the room. The young Sheikah’s hands shook as he stood there, so many thoughts all at once. He had to fix this... he wanted to stay. He had to stay. “...” Robert suddenly had an idea, smiling he runs over to his back and takes it, running back to the forest. Maybe, just maybe if they didn’t harm the eye of that guardian, he could take it and... Yes, yes!    It could work. -- Slowly moving his head left and right to check for anyone around he walks back to the guardian from before... in pieces. “They really made sure it wouldn’t come back alive, huh?” Robert sighed to himself and began to dig around, collecting pieces. Sitting down he sees his reflection upon a more shiner piece of the guardian. The bandage was soaked in blood. He never seen anything like this, especially not while looking at himself. He needed to see the damage; he had no choice. Swallowing nervously his hands shook and he unwrapped the cloth and bandages, revealing the horror. The beam took a chunk of the left side of his face, his eye was... Oh, Hylia. 𝙂𝙤𝙣𝙚.    His left eye was just... 𝙂𝙤𝙣𝙚. He covered his mouth at the sight, shaking, feeling his lunch ready to come back. No.   He had to fix this.     He can fix this! Taking out tools Misko stole for him from a few researchers, he proceeds to cut a piece of the guardian part to cover the wound around the eye – a placeholder for... wait. Where was the guardian eye? Drawing his attention away from his reflection he moves his head, digging through the guardian pieces all around him.   There. Still glowing ever so slightly. It was in good condition – was the eye of the guardian. Robert grins, “An eye for an eye.” Drawing back his attention to the metal part he continues to cut it in an angular shape. Sighing, Robert carefully cuts the guardian eye with the stolen tool. It wasn’t... perfect. He may have cut it a bit smaller than his normal eye but there was no other eye to try again with. Attaching it to the other part he grabs wires, touching them to see if they still made a spark.     Z a p. “... Ouch.” That was the answer he needed. After hours of work it was time to attach it to... Himself. Scratching his head, he looked at his reflection. He had to do this. Taking the guardian eye attached to the metal part he pressed it against his face, looking at himself. He looked... pretty cool. Now he had to just get it on him and keep it there. Taking a deep breath, he takes the tool with one hand and held the technologic eyepiece with the other. He turns the tool on, aiming it at his face. A laser shoots from the tool as he clenches his teeth, using it to keep the metal there, potentially melting the metal on his face. Everything hurt. Every single thing hurt so, so badly. His hand was wobbling as he went in a line, following the corners of the tech to his face. It had to cover the wound. It had to... His vision on his right eye started to blur from the pain alone – he felt himself becoming lightheaded about to pass out. No. He couldn’t pass out yet. Not until he was finished. Another line done. He tilts his head up a little, finishing the lining close to his jaw, then to his ear, to the other side. Done.   Done.    Done... With one final glance at himself, for a second, he saw his work was finished. He drops the tool and falls back passing out from the intense sharp pain. --- Stirring awake he opened his eyes slowly, sitting up. Day time? He must have passed out all night... Rubbing his face, he flinched at the sudden change of feeling on his face. Soft skin to sudden hard metal. Oh, right... Right! Robert looks back at his reflection, looking back at him was one red and one blue eye. The blue was bright – Sheikah technology at its best. He actually could see. He could see...    Robert could see with his left eye. Closing his right eye, he looks around with the left smiling widely. He got it to work! Quickly grabbing his stuff, Robert rushed back to the training grounds. With a working eye he could stay now! He didn’t have to leave! The young Sheikah was overjoyed, proud – he knew that with this he could stay! Passing other Sheikah they all gasped, covering their mouths, looking horrified. Robert swallowed nervously... Was something wrong? They should be in awe of his work... Right? Why did they look scared? It worsened. Sheikah from near and far whispered, pointed at him as he walked by. More shocked gasps.   Judgmental stares. Robert looked down, why did he feel like he did something wrong again? He never did anything right; it was always the same. Same glaring, same judging, same whispers and snickering. It weighed him down, feeling sudden dread as he walked back into his class. The teachers all froze, their eyes widening at the sight of Robert. Some even dropping what was in their hands. “What have you done, Robert?” His teacher finally spoke, breaking the long moment of silence. “I fixed my eye so I can stay in training like you said! I can see even better than before now. I can stay, right? I can stay...” Robert smiled slightly, “I know it’s a little messy work but it’s fine since Sheikah have scars all the time and-” “Stop talking!” the teacher screamed at him, “You’ve messed with Sheikah technology far enough, but this... this is the worst crime. Against all Sheikah rules.” Robert’s smile faded quick, swallowing nervously, “What... what do you mean?” All the warriors in the room stared at him with furious expressions, it started to click he did something... beyond his knowing. “Fusing body with technology like this is forbidden, Robert. It’s against... Oh, Robert...” the teacher dropped his head down, pure disappointment laced in his words. “... You have to leave and never return. You are no longer allowed in Kakariko.” Robert’s eyes widened, dropping his bag. Like a brick hitting him, his chest tightened as tears pooled in his right eye. “...But this is my home, Dorian...” Robert’s voice was small, shaky, “Where am I supposed to go...?” “He should be exiled!” an older warrior yelled, “This is prohibited! He cannot walk around like that! He is dragging down the Sheikah clan just by-” Dorian - Robert’s teacher - holds his hand up stopping the other from speaking, “He’s just a kid. I’m not letting him die over something he did not know.” The older scoffs and looks away, “What are you going to do with him then? He cannot show his face here anymore.” Robert held his head down, trembling as he quietly sobbed, watching tears drop on the ground. He was kicked out of his own home so many times, finally when he finds a place to call home – he was kicked out again. Listening to the older Sheikah yelling and screaming about Robert’s fate he could only stand there and sob. All of this over something he was... actually proud of. He got his eye to work again; why was this so wrong? “He has to be shown to the elders!” “No! He will die if that happens!” “You cannot just keep him a secret! You’ll get killed for doing that!” Robert couldn’t take it anymore; grabbing his bag he dashed out. He didn’t belong here... 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯. Robert ignored the gasps and stares once again as he ran, stumbling over his own feet. He had no idea where he was going. All he knew was he had to leave Kakariko Village and never go back. He... felt awful. Hopefully Misko wouldn’t mind that he didn’t get to say goodbye, perhaps they would meet again. He’d be a fine warrior someday. Unlike Robert, anyways. He suddenly stops to catch his breath. Glancing back at Kakariko from afar. He wanted to call that village home; he really did... Who was he kidding though?    𝙃𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 – 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙮. The young Sheikah was never going to have a home to call his own, it was stupid of him to believe he belonged there. Robert was smarter than that. Foolish and stupid to believe he could even stay. Robert sighs and picks up his bag again, throwing it over his shoulder as he made his way to... wherever his legs brought him. Digging through old guardian parts along the way, he eventually makes goggles for himself to hide his eyes from the world. Despite the staring he hated so much, it was better than stares of horror. It was much, 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 better this way. No one would accept him like how he is now without them. The goggles weren't a problem. He could live wearing them all the time. 𝙃𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙣𝙤 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙮.

this is for @alliecatstrophe bc she’s one of my best friends and bc she loves it when lxc plays matchmaker
--
"Wangji, that wasn't what it looked like." His brother tells him, but Lan Wangji barely hears his brother over the blood rushing in his ears. His exam prep class had ended early, and Lan Wangji had walked in on Lan Xichen and Wei Ying standing together with barely an inch between them while Lan Xichen adjusted Wei Ying’s posture.
He'd stood there and looked at the both of them dumbstruck, but Wei Ying had noticed him before his brother had, and he'd turned the full force of his smile on to Lan Wangji. He would have crumbled underneath it if Lan Xichen hadn't turned to look at him right after, smiling as though he hadn't brought the source of his younger brother's distraction into their home.
"I'm only doing it as a favor, Wangji, please," Lan Xichen pleads, following Lan Wangji up the stairs when he still doesn't turn to look at him. "Jiang Yanli told me they couldn't find anyone else to tutor him on the dizi. He really is getting much better compared to how he was when we first started."
The explanation sounds too simple to be true, but Lan Wangji knew that his brother had been tutoring someone, but he hadn't asked who, and his brother had always gone elsewhere for the lessons, often refusing dinner when he returned.
Lan Wangji had just never truly imagined that his brother had been tutoring Wei Ying of all people.
"Why did you bring him here?" Lan Wangji asks, finally turning to face his brother, though he fails to keep the petulance out of his voice. If Lan Xichen hadn't brought Wei Ying here, Lan Wangji could have remained blissfully ignorant of the fact.
Lan Xichen looks truly apologetic then, looking down at the hardwood floors, "Wei Wuxian and I usually practice at his house, but his aunt was hosting her monthly book club and asked that we practice elsewhere. If I had known that the two of you were at odds, I wouldn't have brought him here."
A flash of guilt and something else starts in Lan Wangji's stomach and moves up to his throat as he looks away from Lan Xichen, his nails digging into the banister. "We are not at odds." He says simply, heat beginning to color the tips of his ears and Lan Wangji only hopes that his brother doesn't notice.
"You aren't?" Lan Xichen asks, and he sounds confused as he looks up at Lan Wangji again, his eyebrows knit together. Lan Wangji can feel himself backing away from his brother then, forcing himself not to reach up and try to hide the blush brightening his ears.
He could still run away, he could duck into his bedroom and lock the door behind him and refuse to answer Lan Xichen when he came knocking.
For one, wonderful moment, his plan seems plausible, but then Lan Xichen is coming closer and Lan Zhan feels himself back away instinctively. "Is Wei Wuxian the person you were telling me about?" His brother's words are gentle, but Lan Wangji only wishes that the floor would open up and swallow him whole.
He'd managed to avoid telling Lan Xichen Wei Ying’s name when he'd finally broken down and told his brother about his crush the week before, though he'd carried it with him for months now. He'd been so careful, he'd dodged certain questions perfectly, but just by standing in his living room, Wei Ying had undone all of that in less than five whole minutes.
Daring to glance up at him, Lan Wangji can watch the information come together on Lan Xichen's face, and he takes another half step towards his room. "Wei Ying is still waiting for you downstairs," Lan Wangji says, swallowing thickly and backing away when a smile spreads across Lan Xichen's face. "It would be impolite to leave him alone for much longer."
Lan Wangji doubted that Wei Ying would think either of them rude, but it was the only excuse he could grasp at that Lan Xichen might buckle under.
Though, when he meets his brother's eyes again, Lan Wangji can see that he isn't going to take the bait. "I'm certain Wei Wuxian would appreciate someone else's feedback for a change of pace, if you'd like to sit with us, Wangji." His brother says, all of the sympathy and guilt from earlier leaving his voice as he glances backwards, as if he expected Wei Ying to appear behind him and agree with him.
Lan Wangji looks too, before he can stop himself.
"I have homework." Lan Wangji declines. It wasn't a lie, he had a paper that was due in three weeks, starting it now would be the best thing to do.
Whether he believes him or not, Lan Xichen doesn't argue, he only smiles before he turns and walks downstairs again.
Lan Wangji knows better than to trust the smile on his brother's face.
His weekend should have been a peaceful one, but instead it had passed with Lan Xichen offering advice that he swears is helpful one moment and teasing him the next, telling him how Wei Ying had gone off on tangents about Lan Wangji and his own musical capabilities. Lan Wangji hadn’t asked to hear a word of it, but he’d only been met with a knowing smile whenever he dared to glare up at his brother.
It isn't fair, Lan Xichen has been in his own relationship for years now, there's nothing Lan Wangji can do to retaliate.
Not that he would, thinking about it is different than actually doing it.
"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying’s voice cuts through Lan Zhan's thoughts almost as soon as he walks into the classroom, the other boy almost bouncing out of his seat by the time Lan Zhan settles in at his own desk. "You left so fast when I was at your house last week, I didn't even get to say hi!" Wei Ying scolds, but the words are lined with a teasing tone and the pout on his face is quickly replaced with a grin.
"I did not want to intrude." Lan Wangji hears himself say, knowing that it was as close to the truth as he'd let himself get while Wei Ying was looking at him like that.
"You still could have stuck around! Your brother says I need to get used to playing in front of people anyways, you could have been my first audience." There's that smile again, Lan Wangji was sure it was supposed to show him that Wei Ying wasn't really upset with him for leaving, but all it does is make the tangled, knotted mess of words in Lan Wangji's throat worse than it already was.
He opens his mouth to speak, but he doesn't get the chance to before their teacher is starting class and Lan Wangji feels himself swallow down the tangle of words as he turns and faces forward in his seat.
He's grateful for the distraction, really. Wei Ying knows that he won't answer him again until class is over, though it rarely stops him from trying.
"Lan Zhan," Wei Ying whispers, and Lan Wangji's eyes flick upwards to the clock on the wall, there’s still another 40 minutes before he would have to answer Wei Ying. "Lan Zhan," Wei Ying tries again, and Lan Wangji glances over at him this time, "tell me what your favorite song on the flute is and I'll ask your brother to teach me how to play it on my dizi.”
Normally, that kind of offer would be something Lan Wangji would only think about when he couldn't sleep and his mind inevitably drifted to thoughts of Wei Ying, but hearing it offered to him in real life makes his mouth feel dry. "There is no need." Lan Wangji answers, breaking his own rule, but he would feel guilty enough about it later, when Wei Ying was no longer looking at him.
Wei Ying groans loudly then, almost leaning over into Lan Wangji's space before their teacher calls on him to answer a question. He doesn’t try to hear whether or not Wei Ying answers the question correctly, instead, Lan Wangji forces himself to stare straight ahead, his hand taking notes almost mechanically.
He doesn’t doubt that Lan Xichen would teach Wei Ying any song he showed an interest in learning, it’s the thought of Wei Ying learning something for him that makes the knot of words even bigger in Lan Wangji’s throat, his grip on his pen entirely too tight as he ignores the way Wei Ying keeps trying to get his attention again, refusing to look over until he gives up entirely.
His throat feels tight when he dares to look over at Wei Ying out of the corner of his eye. Long hair drapes over Wei Ying’s shoulder like a shadow, stretching out and covering his forearm as Wei Ying reaches up and pushes some of it back. If it kept getting in the way, Lan Wangji knew that he would tie it up even higher eventually, sweeping it up into a messy bun that left his neck exposed and left Lan Wangji’s mouth even drier than it already had been.
Unless Wei Ying’s own hair tie broke again, and if it did, he would wordlessly wave his hand at Lan Wangji until he handed him one out of his bag.
He wouldn’t have an answer if Wei Ying ever asked him why he carried hair ties, his own hair was kept short, and he’d only started carrying them after he’d watched Wei Ying whine and wince at using rubber bands in his hair.
Wei Ying’s hair tie does not break during the last few moments of their class and Wei Ying does not ask Lan Wangji why he carries hair ties in his bag.
He almost thinks that he’s escaped Wei Ying’s question, but then he’s caught in the middle of the hallway, Wei Ying’s hand tight around his wrist keeping him from going any further.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying whines, pulling at his hand and pouting when Lan Wangji finally turns around to face him. “Tell me your favorite song! I wanna learn it for you!”
Lan Wangji should tell him no, he should stay firm in his decision to turn him down, but a sigh is leaving him before he can stop himself. “I will tell my brother so the correct sheet music can be found when Wei Ying is ready to learn it.” His own resolve crumbles in Lan Wangji’s hands in the face of Wei Ying’s pout, just like it has every time since simple friendship had given way to a hopeless crush.
“Really?” Wei Ying’s face brightens and his grip on Lan Wangji’s wrist only tightens as Lan Wangji nods minutely. No one else beyond his brother should have been able to catch it, but Wei Ying does. The pout is gone within seconds, like clouds breaking up after a storm to reveal a sun shining too brightly and too warmly over Lan Wangji’s skin.
It should have been the end of the discussion, but Wei Ying insists on walking him to his next class, and Lan Wangji is incapable of telling him not to.
Over the next few weeks, Lan Xichen’s excuses for bringing Wei Ying into their home become flimsier and flimsier.
One week, Lan Xichen had claimed that Jiang Cheng’s lacrosse team was having a meeting at the Jiang household. “It was so loud, Wangji, Wei Ying and I couldn’t even have a conversation, let alone even think about music.” The explanation had made sense, and coming from anyone else, Lan Wangji might have believed it, but it was the smirk on his face that had given Lan Xichen away.
The week after that, his brother had only shrugged and claimed that the acoustics in their living room were better than those in the Jiang’s living room.
Lan Wangji still hasn’t forgiven him for the week he’d asked Wei Ying to stay over for dinner, though Lan Xichen had claimed that he only wanted to make up for all the times Wei Ying’s family had invited him to their table.
His brother is a traitor, but Lan Wangji is getting more and more used to that particular realization. Lan Xichen only smiled kindly in the face of every look Lan Wangji could have possibly given him.
He doesn’t believe it when his brother calls him and tells him that he’s going to be late to Wei Ying’s lesson because his car had gotten a flat, stranding him a whole town away. Lan Xichen had sworn he would be back in time.
“There’s no point in canceling the lesson,” Lan Xichen had told him that right before he asked Lan Wangji to keep Wei Ying company while he waited.
Now, Lan Wangji is left to sit in the living room while he waits for Wei Ying, his spine perfectly straight even though he feels like sneaking up to his room and pretending that he isn’t home when the doorbell finally rings.
Lan Wangji thinks about doing just that until he’s twisting the doorknob and opening the door, but he’s rooted to the spot by the time Wei Ying’s face lights up, his own mouth falling open just a little bit.
Wei Ying doesn’t wait to be invited in, he just slides past Lan Wangji, careful not to knock his dizi case into him before he bends down to take off his shoes. His hair is mussed from the walk over and Lan Wangji feels his hand twitch with the want to step forward and smooth it down once Wei Ying rights himself.
Lan Wangji swallows it down as he closes the door.
“My brother will be late today.” Lan Wangji says, following Wei Ying with his eyes as he walks into the living room and then turns around to look at Lan Wangji when he finds no Lan Xichen. There was more he could say, he could give Wei Ying a better explanation, but before his mouth can speak, his body is turning towards the stairs.
The polite thing to do would be to sit with Wei Ying until his brother arrived, and Lan Wangji desperately wants to do that as much as he desperately doesn’t want to.
Wei Ying’s hand is wrapped around his wrist again by the time he’s climbed to the third step, almost dragging Lan Wangji back down to the first floor with him. “You’re gonna leave me down here by myself, Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying asks as he pulls on Lan Wangji’s sleeve, and for a moment, he looks genuinely worried enough that Lan Wangji climbs back down a single step. He wants to tell Wei Ying that his brother won’t be long, that he’d promised Lan Wangji that much, but the worry on Wei Ying’s face quickly shifts into something much more mischievous. “Who’s gonna keep me from finding all your embarrassing baby pictures?”
In that same breath, all of the sympathy Lan Wangji might’ve had is gone, “Uncle keeps both mine and Xichen’s photos in a locked cabinet.” Lan Wangji wouldn’t say where, that would only give Wei Ying ideas, but he doesn’t back down.
“I can pick locks, you know.” Wei Ying takes his hand away and takes his warmth with it as he rocks back on his heels.
“You cannot.” Lan Wangji hadn’t ever seen Wei Ying pick a lock, but he couldn’t outright say that Wei Ying couldn’t, he could only say that he wasn’t allowed to do it here.
“If you leave me by myself, how are you going to make sure I don’t do anything? I bet you were a cute baby, Lan Zhan.” He knew when Wei Ying was trying to rile him up, Wei Ying didn’t even bother to hide it anymore and Lan Wangji no longer bothered with trying to act as though he were unaffected.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji starts, stepping down once more. He’s only standing on the bottom step now, and Wei Ying’s head is level with his chest with barely an inch between them.
“Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying’s hands are behind his back now, but Lan Wangji knows just how quickly those hands can get into trouble.
Their staring contest lasts only a few seconds, deadlocked silence weighing between them before Lan Wangji feels himself break, sidestepping Wei Ying as he climbs off the last step, but catches his wrist at the last second and drags him back into the living room behind him.
Wei Ying’s too loud laughter bounces between the hallway and the living room and Lan Wangji’s grip on his wrist tightens before he can stop himself, his shoulders straightening out the next moment. He would not give Wei Ying the satisfaction of knowing that he’d ruffled him with what might have been empty threats. Those threats might have been completely unfounded, and Lan Wangji wouldn’t let himself find out either way, not today.
“Wei Ying should start before brother arrives, lessons will not take so long if you warm up before.” Lan Wangji would only stand in the living room with him to make sure he did it, he would not run Wei Ying through his exercises or guide his hands the way he’d watched his brother do, Wei Ying was far past the point of that being necessary.
It didn’t matter how much he wanted to.
To his credit, Wei Ying seems to consider it, setting his dizi case down on the coffee table and coming to stand just a few inches away from Lan Wangji, a look Lan Wangji couldn’t name spreading across his face before Lan Wangji even has the chance to think he might be up to something.
“When you say it like that, Lan Zhan, it sounds like you don’t want me around.” If Wei Ying notices Lan Wangji’s eyes widening by just a fraction, he has the kindness not to call him out for it, even as he takes another step closer and Lan Wangji wishes he had more room to back away.
“Is that it? Lan Zhan? Do you not want me here?” Wei Ying sounds quieter than he’d ever bothered to be in Lan Wangji’s presence, an honest frown pulling at his lips and Lan Wangji’s heart leaps up into his throat, dislodging the knot of words.
“No,” Lan Wangji answers, he knows his voice sounds rough, but he’s helpless to stop it as the truth comes spilling out, “I do not mind Wei Ying being here.” It doesn’t sound right, it doesn’t sound like enough, and when he dares to glance up at Wei Ying, he sees that he doesn’t altogether believe him.
“It’s okay if you don’t like me being here, Lan Zhan, Xichen-ge and I can always go back to practicing at my house-”
“No.”
Having Wei Ying in his house had driven Lan Wangji to distraction, but the thought of him leaving and never coming back is far, far worse.
“I like it when Wei Ying comes over.” Too much, Lan Wangji liked it too much when Wei Ying came over, he realizes, color starting at his ears and spreading down his neck and over his cheeks quickly. His fingers twitch and ache at his side to grab onto Wei Ying’s wrist again, to try and make him understand, but Lan Wangji thinks better of it, tucking both hands just behind his back.
Silence fills the air around them like flooding water and Lan Wangji is the first to look away, his chest already aching as if he were drowning. He should have gone up to his room and let Wei Ying do whatever he liked, he should have just asked his brother to cancel the lesson, he shouldn’t have-
Wei Ying steps forward and calls his name before Lan Wangji’s mind can spiral any further, his hand is warm, too warm, as he wraps his fingers around Lan Wangji’s wrist and pulls it from behind his back.
He expects Wei Ying to tease him and laugh, but he doesn’t, instead, he asks, too softly, “Lan Zhan, are you sure?”
Lan Wangji nods with a click in his throat, still unable to look up and meet Wei Ying’s eyes, even as the hold Wei Ying has on his wrist squeezes for just a second. “Do you want me to come over more?” The question is genuine enough that it makes Lan Wangji’s heart feel like it’s being squeezed.
“Wei Ying could if he wanted.” It wasn’t like Lan Wangji hadn’t ever thought of inviting Wei Ying over before, but the words had always died on the tip of his tongue whenever he tried to give them voice.
Suddenly there’s barely a breath left between them as Wei Ying comes closer, their noses just brushing as Lan Wangji’s head snaps up. “Wei Ying would like to.” Wei Ying says slowly, the words coming out of his mouth as clunkily as Lan Wangji always feels his do, though the smile on Wei Ying’s face is different now, it’s softer, sweeter. “If that’s what Lan Zhan wants too.”
Lan Wangji’s mouth falls open just slightly and his eyes drop down to the hand that’s still holding onto his wrist, his other hand coming up to hold onto Wei Ying’s wrist gently as he nods silently. His words are sticking in his throat again, but the way Wei Ying’s smile brightens tells him that he understands.
“You’re brother’s gonna be so jealous when he realizes that I’m not coming over just for lessons anymore.” Wei Ying laughs, and Lan Wangji feels a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth.
“Brother will live.”

Training (Giles x plus size reader)
Oh my Dear Boudoir Anon, it took some time but I have something for you! and let me tell you that I hate it lmao. Like I love how the end went, but I am unsure about the beginning. BUT I am my worst critic right? Regardless I hope that you enjoy the story hun.

It was hard to believe that in the year you moved to Sunnydale you made friends with a group of college students that fought monsters. Of course you made a mistake and hadn’t taken the warning your roommates had told you, about not going out at night. So your first night in a new town and you almost became vampire food. Naturally after being saved you became friends with the group of students known as the Scooby Gang.
You knew nothing of fighting or monsters so you mainly stayed back at the Magic shop and did research for the group and ran the shop when Giles went out with them. Even if you couldn’t be a great fighter like Buffy, you still asked to be trained and Buffy gave that job to Giles. You should have known she would give the job to Giles, but when you learned it was him you quickly made excuses not to train. You couldn’t help but feel like it would be a waste of his time. And it didn't take Giles long to corner you and find out what the problem was.
"I just don't want to waste your time."
"I do not see me making sure you are safe as a waste of my time."
"Giles, take a look at me and then at the group. When you figure it out then come find me."
You hadn't even turned around before Giles was commenting back.
"How does your weight have anything to do with this?"
"It didn't dawn when I first asked that it would take years to train me. I am so out of shape."
Suddenly Giles was walking you backwards as he removed his glasses to clean them. A move you learned he does when he is frustrated or annoyed.
"Your size has nothing to do with this, we start off small. We work you towards a goal then make another. Right now I would be happy if you just knew how to shoot a crossbow or any other type of weapon."
Nodding your head once you took a deep breath as you looked into his eyes.
"Alright Giles. Let's do this."
~~
True to his word Giles started you off on weapons, while also teaching you simple stretches to help loosen your muscles. After about three months, to your surprise, you had become very skilled with a bow. You couldn’t help but be slightly disappointed that through all the training you hadn’t lost much weight. But soon you and the others started to notice that parts of your body were becoming firmer. And naturally you started to gain more confidence.
Coming through the back of the shop you looked around and saw that you were alone. Thinking that Giles was in the front you set down your things and removed your jacket so that you could start on your stretches. Getting lost in your thoughts you realized you had gone through your whole warm up routine and Giles still hadn’t showed up. Grabbing a bottle of water you headed to the front to see what was going on. A quick look around the shop showed that he wasn’t busy and when you turned to the right you saw him sitting at a table with his head in the books. You knew that Giles wasn’t someone you wanted to sneak up on, so as you made your way to him you made sure to speak loudly.
“A new big bad show up that I didn’t know about?”
Turning quickly in his seat Giles turned to look at you. Just like he did anytime he was off on time Giles looked at his watch before he took his glasses off and rubbed his eyes.
"No. No new big and bad. I just got a new shipment of books in and I got caught up on reading."
Leaning against the table next to him you tried to look at the title but Giles was quick to cover it. Because you had been used to rough housing with Xander you automatically reach across him to grab the book. Not even thinking about it as you reached across him, your chest ended up in his face. It didn't dawn on you at first but when you felt Giles breath on your chest you remembered that your workout outfit had changed from baggy clothes to sweatpants and a form fitting tank top. That gave Giles a birds eye view down your shirt.
Trying not to pull more attention to an already embarrassing situation you slowly pulled back to your original position, and acted as Giles face wasn't just in your chest.
"Why are you hiding the title Giles?"
Standing up and gathering the book and a couple other things Giles began to walk towards the back as he stuttered slightly over his words.
"The book is… well it's about…. You know it really isn't that important. "
"Well we both know that's a lie. If it wasn't you wouldn't have hidden it's cover." Stopping suddenly you couldn't help but place your hands on your hips. "Giles! Are you reading porn?"
Spinning around quickly Giles gave you a brief fish out of water expression before he answered.
"I beg your pardon! I would not read porn at the shop! NOT that, that's what it is."
Deciding to pick on him some more you couldn't help but smile as you walked towards him.
"You were so reading porn. Just count yourself lucky it was me that found you and not someone like Xander."
Nodding his head in agreement you heard Giles mumble something about "Never hearing the end of it." Before he snapped back to the present and to you. "The book isn't about porn, but fae magic. Of course I should have known there would have been a descriptive chapter on the not so innocent parts of fae's."
"Ohh does it have pictures?"
"No it doesn't have pictures! I really don't feel we need to be having this conversation."
"Why?"
"Well because you are a young adult and I am your senior."
"Keyword there Giles, adult. I may be younger than you but I am an adult."
If you hadn't been looking at Giles face you would have missed the way his eyes shot down to your chest before quickly looking back up. Even though you pretended not to notice you could help but feel your heart racing at the look Giles had given you. Taking his glasses off, Giles rubbed his eyes and muttered something that sounded like "Yes, how could I forget." Before you could ask him to clarify what he had said Giles was holding his hand, that held his glasses out, as he spoke louder.
"Yes well. Shall we start your training?"
Training felt different today, at first you tried to chalk it up to finally learning some basic defense moves. That the tension was because of you both being in close proximity, but after about 20 minutes you began to realize it was because of what had happened earlier. Until today you never thought about Giles in any way, other than a teacher. Yet you couldn't help but realize how firm his body was for a man his age, how his voice sounded as he spoke softly into your ear, or how he smelled like the incense he sold at the shop. You weren't given any time to really think about it though because teaching weapons was different then hand to hand and this Giles was a bit stricter and he didn't give breaks as often as weapons training. Luckily you got a small break when Giles was called to the front of the store.
Sitting down on the mat you worked on stretching as you watched Giles walking away. You knew the tension was because of earlier and your mind was telling you to let it go. That it was a fluke but your body was telling you something completely different. It has been a while since anyone has shown interest in you. And even though what happened at the table was an accident, his second look and the comment he had made hadn’t been. Age was never an issue for you, in fact you actually liked your men older and you told yourself when you first met Giles that you wouldn't mind a night with him. The question was though, was there anything there or were you just imagining there was?
By the time Giles had gotten back you figured out that you were going to play a little and see what happens. That if he hadn't been interested he wouldn't have taken a second look.
"Sorry about that, sometimes I question myself on having Anya helping out."
Chuckling you stood up as Giles made his way back to the middle of the room.
"I have no answer and even if I did I would plead the fifth."
Smiling Giles moved so that he stood behind you. Standing closer he lowered his voice as he moved to place you in the hold you had been working on before being called.
"If you had an answer and pleaded the fifth I have ways on getting it from you."
That sentence alone almost had you wondering if Giles had put a spell on you to read your mind. And he almost caused you to slip up and fall when he tried to take you down. Instead you planted your feet and shifted the way he had told you. Grabbing his arm you stood behind him and twisted it upwards.
"You can't get nothing if I am the one that's got a hold on you."
Suddenly in what felt like a second Giles had himself out of the hold and was once again standing behind you. With both of your hands pinned in one of his behind your back while his other arm was around your neck.
"Never assume to have the upper hand. Anytime you do that you end up in a position you can't get out of."
"I don't know. I think I can get out of this."
If you were asked about it later you would blame it on his quick breathing in your ear, or how your bodies were even closer together. But having guts, you never had before, you turned your hand slightly and placed an open balm on Giles upper thigh. You could feel him jump a bit, but he didn't release his hold. Instead of moving your hand any more you pushed your ass into Giles as your nails dug slightly into his thigh. You could feel his breath change as he brought his face closer to yours.
"I am not sure this is a good way to get out of a hold."
Tilting your head back you couldn't help but close your eyes.
"Oh I wouldn't try this with just anyone."
You couldn’t help but shiver when Gile's voice turned slightly darker in tone.
"I should hope not. But please, tell me what you would do if someone was you in this type of hold."
Releasing your hands Giles brought his arm around your waist while he brought the arm around your neck back so that his hand now rested on your neck.
"Who's to say I would want to get out of this hold?"
Just as you started to move your hand that was still on his thigh. Giles let out the breath he had been holding before pushing into you with his upper body. In a couple of steps he had you at the wall. Using the hand on your hip he turned you around and pressed you into the wall. Using the hand he had around your neck he tilted your head and brought his face towards yours.
"I am very close to casting a spell to see who you really are."
Resting your hands on his chest you couldn't help but run them up and down.
"I will submit to any spell you want. Just to prove I am not under any spell."
"Then what game are you playing."
"No games. Just after earlier I had to see if I was imagining things."
"You mean when you put your chest into my face?"
Laughing you shook your head as you brought one hand down to his waist.
"No. Not then. That was an accident. I am talking about when you took that second look. If you hadn't done that I would have acted like nothing happened."
Almost on que Giles looked down at the top of your breast, while his fingers danced across the top of them.
"I guess having them so close to my face made me realize how beautiful they were and I couldn't help but look again."
For some reason your insecurities came pushing forward and you said the first thing that came to mind.
"There is nothing beautiful on me."
Almost instantly the hand around your neck tightened and Giles pushed his body into yours.
"You are NEVER to say anything like that again. Do you hear? Never again."
Reaching up you lightly touched his hand as you spoke quietly.
"Giles, I am only saying things that have been said to me. And it's okay, it's the facts of life."
You didn't think Giles could get any closer but he did. Slipping a leg between yours he made sure he had your full attention.
"Fools, the whole lot of them. You are beautiful y/n. Not just your breast, but all of you. And if I am being completely honest, I was looking at you way before today. Today is just the first time I am admitting it to myself."
You knew there was no fighting Giles on this so you just smiled as you ran your fingers down his cheek.
"So what do we do now?"
Grinning down at you Giles quickly moved you so that you were pressed into his back once again. While his breath tickled your ear.
"Right now we are doing nothing. You on the other hand, need to get out of this hold. And if you can do it without any tricks……. Let's just say I have some ideas on rewards."

Volunteer Part 2 (Pre-Serum Steve x Fem!Reader)
PART 1                         MASTERLIST
Word count: 3075 (yes it is much longer than the first part but idc)
Warnings: Alcohol consumption, fluff
Summary: Read part 1 if you haven't, now it is time for that date he promised hehe
I checked the clock. Damn, already 7:00.
"Dr. Erskine," I called, "I have finished all my work for the night. Am I good to go?"
He looked up distractedly, running through some calculations. "Yes, dear, have fun with that Rogers boy," he said in his thick accent.
I grabbed my coat and bag, yelling back, "He's not a boy, he is a man."
I heard him chuckling as the door swung shut. I walked down many hallways and once I reached the front I nodded to the secretary, and she handed me the keys to the locker room.
"Here ya go sweet, have fun on that hot date! The Lord knows you need to get out sometime," She said jokingly. I laughed, feeling surprisingly nervous about this. Nervous, but excited.
I unlocked the locker door and threw my bag on the floor. I was going to be late if I did not hurry. I pulled out my dress and quickly took off my skirt and blouse. I stepped into it, pulling it up all the way to my shoulders, it was a bit of a splurge but it was worth it, I could tell. It was a halter-style neckline, with periwinkle gauze wrapping around the neck, and it came down just past my knees. It complimented my skin very nicely and was perfect for dancing.
I ran back out to the lobby, and Darlene, the secretary gasped in surprise. "Holy mackerel, don't you look ready to cut a rug!" I turned around and she helped me zip up the dress. "Make sure to show me the final look, I might stick around a bit longer just to see it!"
I smiled back, "Oh you might just faint when you see what I have put together!"
I ran back into the locker room, pulling my makeup out of my bag. I rarely used it, but it was a rare occasion. I did not need to do my hair, just taking out a couple of pins to let it loose, rolling down to my shoulders. Then I grabbed my powder from out of my bag. I did not like to use the foundation there was available, and besides, it was far too expensive, especially during this time. I brushed the slightest hint of brown over my eyelid, pressing it down with my finger. Now onto the eyebrows. I screwed the top off of my vaseline, and with a small brush, combed it out to make it neater. I plucked a couple of hairs, just to make it smooth. I put a bit of mascara on, running all the clumps out with a brush. Then some of my favorite rouge that I wore quite often, brushing it on to the apples of my cheeks. Lastly, my red lipstick. I swiped it on, smudging it out just a little bit. I looked in the mirror, making sure everything looked fine. Lastly, I grabbed my clutch. I had already packed it with everything I needed, and I shoved my bag in my locker. I could pick it up tomorrow.
I walked out into the lobby at 7:55, dressed to the nines and ready to dance. Darlene was still at her desk, but this time she was on the phone.
"Yes dear, you can go out, but don't get mixed up with a doll dizzy or a swigger, be a good girl, okay bye," She hung up the phone, looking at me. "Sorry dear, that's just the daughter. Now, don't you look killer diller! That boy that's taking you better grandstand you around!"
I smiled nervously. "Man, actually. And thank you, Darlene, I appreciate it. Now tell me, how do you calm the jitters, because I am shaking like a leaf!"
Darlene laughed. "Oh dear, well there never is any surefire way is there. I don't think you have any reason to be nervous, you look like a doll, and that man will be dumbstruck. Just enjoy yourself while you're still this young."
I grinned, and then the clock struck 8:00. "Well, I better go, thank you for the help, Darlene!"
As I opened the door, she called back, "Of course dear, now have a nice night!"
It was a bit cold outside, especially for a spring night. But it felt nice. And then turning around a corner, was Steve, along with one of his friends who had brought a girl along. They were linked, arm in arm and Steve was standing awkwardly next to them as if he was unsure of what to do. I waved over at them and his face lit up. I began to walk towards them, and the introductions began.
"Hello," I politely greeted the other two, "I'm y/n."
"So I've heard," the other soldier said, giving a not so sly wink at Steve. He seemed very confident. "I'm James, but call me Bucky, and this is Betty here." The girl wrapped in his arms smiled and waved. "So you're a fan of the 51 club huh?" Bucky asked.
"Oh yes," I replied, "I went there once with a group of girls, it was quite fun."
"Well, let's get out of this cold and head to it!" Bucky said loudly. Yep, definitely a cocky soldier. Bucky and Betty started walking ahead of us, leaving Steve and me alone. His cheeks were quite red, and I figured he had never been on a date before.
He cleared his throat. "You look very nice," He said nervously.
"Why thank you, Steve," I replied, and deciding to be a bit confident, linked my arm with his. "Now tell me about yourself." And so he did. The walk was only about 15 minutes, but I could tell he was much calmer once we reached it. He told me stories of his childhood, how close he and Bucky were, why he wanted to join the military. His eyes lit up when he talked about it, making me happy to see him this way. It was very different from the pale, shaking, small man in the clinic.
The sign was lit up, and the windows lights were glowing, showcasing the happy people dancing inside. What a place this was. The bubbling of the crowd swelling and waning. Many of the men were in their uniforms. This was a hotspot of activity, and it was sure to be a good time. Steve began to shrink a bit from my side at the crowd, but I pulled him back.
"Didn't you promise me a dance?" I said jokingly, closing the gap between us. He gulped, looking nervous, but with a hint of a smile on his face. He carefully placed his hand on my waist, and another in my hand. I let him lead me to the dance floor, but he stopped short a bit.
"Would this be the worst time to tell you that I'm not the best dancer?" Steve said, fully smiling this time.
I scoffed. "Well, there's always a time for something new!" So I took the lead, showing him through a couple of easier steps. Luckily he got the hang of it fairly quick, only stepping on my feet a couple of times. The music got livelier, and the dancing got faster. We were spinning around the dance floor, everything else was a blur but him and me. He was glowing, looking the healthiest I had ever seen him, and it suited him well. The song ended, and we were laughing, actually laughing.
"Well Mr. Rogers, I'd say you did very good." I congratulated him, surprised at how quickly he was learning.
He looked down bashfully. "Well, I had a good teacher." He looked back up at me with a surprising intensity in his eyes. "Would you like to get a drink?"
I nodded, and he grabbed my hand, heading towards the bar. We got some drinks, danced some more, and had a good time. After a couple of dances, my feet grew tired, especially since I had a long day at work. Steve could tell.
"How about we sit down for a bit," he suggested. I agreed quickly and we found a table in the back corner, farther away from the crowd. I could start to feel some of the drinks kicking in.
"So we've talked about me, now what about you? How long have you lived here?" This took me a bit aback, most of my few dates always talked about themselves and their accomplishments, and never mine.
"Oh, I grew up in this sort of area, and I went to school to become a doctor. My parents helped me a lot of the way through it, so I would not even be here tonight on this lovely date with you if it weren't for them. They moved away once I had gotten this job with Dr. Erskine, so now I live alone. But it is still fun, Dr. Erskine is a great mentor." I babbled on and on, about what it was like to work there, what my hobbies were, who my favorite sports teams were. And he just sat there, eagerly listening. He wanted to hear what I was talking about, and he was genuinely interested. We had fierce debates and deep conversations. I didn't realize how late it was getting until Bucky walked over to us.
"C'mon lovebirds, it's time to go. It's already almost midnight." He strolled back to his date, but turned back to us and lifted his hat. Steve and I looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"Is he always like that?" I said, clutching my sides.
Steve had a twinkle in his eye. "Oh, like the whole I am a soldier woopity-doo." He imitated his voice very well, and then deepening it said, "Well m'lady, we should probably get out of here." He bowed and offered a hand, making me giggle. He escorted me out just as they began dimming the lights. There was barely anyone left.
"Wait," I said to Steve, pulling him back to the dance floor. "One last dance? I know that this is your last night here." He smiled and nodded. A slow song came on and he pulled me close, closer than before. (A/N for this moment let's just make Steve taller even though he is short, just pretend) I rested my head on his chest as we swayed back and forth to the music. We just let the music play, in each other's arms. It felt like heaven. All too soon the music ended, making us stop.
"How did you know this was my last day," He whispered, leading me outside.
I smiled. "It was on your files you goof. Remember, I was there when you got recruited."
Steve flushed a bit but stayed quiet. "May I walk you home?" he asked politely.
I nodded, suddenly a bit shy. The wind kicked up again, brushing softly against our legs. I shivered, from the cold, I could not tell.
"Steve, where do you live?" I blurted out, not really thinking about how that sounded.
He looked at me with a mixture of shock and amusement. "I'm sorry?" he said.
"Oh, oh that did not sound the way I meant. I mean, how far is your place from mine? I would hate for you to walk far and catch a cold in this wind." I stuttered, a bit embarrassed.
He scratched the back of his head, smiling at me. "Well, y/n, I live at 569 Leaman Place, in Brooklyn."
I stopped, turning to look at him. "Steven Grant Rogers, you did not tell me that you live so far away. It will take you a while to get home!"
He looked amused at my outburst. "First off, how did you know my full name, and also, I will be fine, I always turn out okay."
I huffed. "Okay, fine. We'll do it this way. First off, the FILES, remember. And second off, no, you won't be fine. This is your last day here and I will not let you get a cold."
By now, we had already reached my apartment, but still, our bickering continued.
"Well then what would you propose?" Steve said exasperatedly, feigning annoyance.
"Well," I said. "I have an idea. You won't think it proper, but I don't care. Come inside, let's get warm."
I unlocked my door and motioned for him to come in. He looked slightly dumbstruck, probably not expecting me to invite him in. It was nice and toasty, and I already felt much better than I did out in the wind. I could tell Steve did too, he had more color in his face, and his breathing was not as labored.
"Here's what I'm thinking. You spend the night here and leave early in the morning so that you don't miss the timing. How does that sound?" I questioned. I know it seemed wrong to let him stay here, especially since we had only been on one date. But I trusted him.
"Hmm, I don't know. Buck might be worried if I don't show up at home. And I would never want to impose. This is a kind offer, but it is too much." I started to protest, but he said, "This is very sweet of you y/n. But I don't think I will."
He started to grab his coat, but I stopped him. "Steve," I said softly, "Please stay. I don't want to seem so forward, but please stay with me." He looked astonished, clearly not expecting this from me. He pulled me into a hug, the softest, warmest hug, and groaned.
"Ugh, fine I'll stay," he spoke in a joking manner, making me giggle. But then he looked me in the eyes with that same intensity I saw earlier. My heart started racing, and I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. Yeah, I could definitely feel the drinks. He leaned down and brushed his lips against mine, slowly, softly. And then he pulled back suddenly, his eyes wide.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that, please forgive me, I've never done that before, I'm sorry," he kept on repeating. I rolled my eyes, pulling him back into a kiss to get him to stop talking. This one lasted a bit longer, and he melted into the kiss. His hands hesitantly touched the nape of my neck, the other one reaching the small of my back. He pulled me a bit closer in the embrace and slightly deepened the kiss. I giggled, and he pulled back again, but this time with a dazed look. I brought my hand to his cheek, and he leaned into it, still with cloudy eyes. He blinked, looking back at me.
"Woah," He said, "Is it always like this?"
I laughed louder this time, still wrapped in his arms. "Well, I wouldn't know. But no, I don't think it is." He took my hand off of his cheek and put it against his lips, pressing a light kiss to it. I reluctantly pulled out of his arms, going to get some blankets for him to use. When I returned to the living room, he was still standing in the same spot.
"C'mon Steve, make yourself at home." He moved to sit down on the couch, looking at me intently. The damn butterflies returned. "You know what, I don't care anymore. That sofa is horrible, you wouldn't get a wink of sleep on that thing. And God knows you need sleep."
He cocked an eyebrow at me, possibly guessing where this was going. I began walking out of the room. "Follow me if you want a good night's rest," I called back, hearing soft footsteps walking towards me.
I opened the door to my clean bedroom. I am glad I have a queen, that will make things easier. I turned to Steve, whose mouth was slightly agape. "Uh, y/n, do you expect me to sleep in there..? With you...?" He cleared his throat nervously, his face flushing.
I also looked down, but screw it, he needed sleep. "Yes, I do. If you are to be in the military you must expect to be sharing a room, or even a bed with your comrades. This will be good training. And also, I don't want you to be chilly in the front room, besides, the couch is terribly uncomfortable, and you need a good night's rest. Now, if it makes you feel better, I will sleep on the couch."
He protested, "No, I would not want you to be uncomfortable either. I do not mind. It is your apartment after all. I will sleep on the couch."
I rolled my eyes and grabbed Steve's arms, pulling him onto the bed next to me. I planted a soft kiss on his cheek, and then his lips. "Stop being so formal," I mumbled against his lips. "I will be taking a shower. You can use it after me, and then I can try to find some pants that might fit you." I walked out of the room before he could protest again.
The shower warmed up quickly, but nothing compared to the warmth of being in Steve's embrace. I giggled at myself, already so serious for him, even though I had only known him for 2 days. But it felt like I had known him all my life. And it was amazing. I toweled off and changed into the modest pajamas I owned.
I walked back into the bedroom to find Steve in the bed already, fast asleep. I chuckled to myself. I kept him up probably much longer than he was used to. I slid under the covers on the other side of the bed, as quietly so as not to wake him. He rustled a bit, but then fell back into a deep slumber. I scooted a bit closer to him, resting my body on the back of his. (A/N, Yes you're the big spoon, Steve will almost always be little spoon bcs he's steve) I close my eyes, letting the soft breath of his lull me to sleep.
A/N, Part 3 is in the works, and now that I look at this, there are most likely going to be three more parts depending on how my brain wants it to go. So let me know if you want me to tag you in the next part to make things easier! Thank you for reading!

I scheduled a visit to the tower two days after my "illness" episode. Most of my lows passed without any lingering, the headache was gone and so was the nausea. My mood was still somewhere between "please kill me" and "I could eat a lot of cake right now" but it was bearable. I was very much looking forward to occupying myself with the project if only to divert my focus from overthinking about my own misery.
Peter said he was going to see Tony straight after school and offered for me to tag along with him: Tony sent his driver to pick up the boy. I didn't have the heart to refuse, seeing no point in waiting for an Uber on a rainy workday afternoon. Traffic was horrendous in New York city no matter the weather but a downpour took the congestions to a new height.
When I spotted the sleek, black brand new Audi I made a beeline for it, waving to Happy as I crawled inside as fast as I could. "Don't get the seats wet," The chauffeur grumbled.
"It's wet outside," I rolled my eyes into the next dimension. Whoever thought his nickname was in any way appropriate needed a psych eval. Peter sat on my right side looking wet and downright miserable. I had to swallow a string of expletives at the sight in front of me: the entirety of Peter's right cheek was an ugly shade of blue, eye on it's way to swelling shut and lip busted open. "What in the everliving fuck happened to you?!" Breathing through my nose, I fought bubbling rage inside of me. Peter looked like he went toe to toe with a Hulk.
"Flash happened," The boy mumbled, whining and brooding simultaneously. His cheeks glowed.
"That little runt?" I took another pause to steady my breathing, tentatively reaching out for Peter's hand. He grasped it tightly in gratitude. "Well, did you at least fight back?"
"No, I... I can't do that," Peter became even smaller, curling into the seat and in himself. I was disappointed for sure as I wouldn't just stand there and take a beating, but Pete was different. He was sensitive-a total pacifist to boot.
"Do any of the teachers know? I'm guessing this isn't the first time," Sure, I've seen Parker with an occasional scrape or a bruise but I'd always figured it was just him being a teenage nuisance. Curtain of depression I had over the previous days slowly began morphing into cold fury.
"No, well, they probably do. But Flash is the principal's son so they ignore it, I guess," Peter sighed in defeat. "Mr. Stark doesn't know either. Please don't tell him," He begged.
"Abuse thrives in silence," I parroted our sex-ed teacher but otherwise made no promises. My mind raced between comforting Peter and ordering Happy to turn the car around so I could find the shitty excuse of a human named Flash Thompson and violently make it known what happens to people when they get me pissed off.
"What are you going to tell Tony?" I asked Peter as we herded into the elevator, slightly wet and mostly miserable.
"I have an idea or two," The boy answered darkly.
"You have been summoned to the common floor, I was instructed to notify you there is food to be eaten before sciencing, per Doctor Banner's orders," Friday announced, rerouting the elevator to the aforementioned destination. Peter groaned loudly, burying his face in his hands.
"What the fuck happened to you, kid?" Bucky decided screeching like a banshee and attracting at least five of his teammates to come running from the dining room was the best way to approach an obviously spooked Peter. The boy shuffled his feet awkwardly.
"Our classmate beat him up," I answered before Pete could lie. "The fucking runt that doesn't know his damn place. His two cronies probably too," The venom in my voice could've melted steel. I was genuinely furious.
"What's his name?" Captain-Steve growled. I was taken aback at the large blonde man suddenly standing up, fists clenched. My feet moved involuntarily, taking a step back from the enraged supersoldier and Pete cowered, startled.
I stepped in front of him immediately. "I'm gonna need you to chill the fuck down, Cap," The trembling in my voice persisted but I stood my ground nonetheless. "Your roid rage is going to land you in prison if you keep going," In my own rage, self-preservation went out of the window along with common sense. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up, Peter was downright shaking behind me.
"She's right," Bucky darkly eyed his friend. "Off to the sparring mats with you." He grabbed Rogers by the shoulder with his prosthetic arm all but hauling the blonde towards the elevator. Thor immediately took the Captain's other side, not quite touching him but obviously giving his friend a vibe check. I could've clapped. Not that Steve resisted much, but still.
"Everyone calm down, please," The Black Widow piped up in an even tone. I can always count on a fellow woman to keep calm in a situation where men's tempers almost cause a disaster. "Now, tell us what happened," She approached Peter on quiet feet. The boy shuffled around me looking every bit as dejected as I felt about the situation. "And someone fetch some ice for that bruise," Romanoff's offhand gesture had Barton scrambling into the kitchen.
Peter sat down on the couch, looking at the floor. "Flash has been bothering me since, like, forever and today I just ignored his usual remarks because I had a calculus test, I- I wanted to make sure I knew everything, and I was sitting in a really quiet corner, and I- Ned was hanging out with MJ somewhere and I guess Flash got angry that I didn't answer," Peter rambled in his usual nervous fashion, sentences jumbling together. Natasha kept nodding, simply hugging the boy softly with one arm. As soon as Clint came back with a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel Natasha's other arm pressed it gently to Peter's bruised face. The assassin frowned at the pained whine that left Peter's lips.
"Honestly, that dude is a fucking piece of shit, I'm surprised how he's not in jail yet," I piped up from where I was pacing along the large window overlooking the city skyline. Wound up and tense, I couldn't stay still. "He stole a senior's car for a joyride, last year. He routinely picks on the freshmen and I've personally dislocated his wrist from slapping me on the ass in, like, eight grade," Peter's eyebrows raised at my admission and Natasha gave me a vaguely approving hum.
I caught Peter's eye the moment elevator doors opened revealing a panicked looking Tony and a worried Bruce with Loki standing behind them, talking to a man in... Robes? And a red cape?
"What happened to my science child?!" Tony's fury rang high. The engineer rushed over to Peter, frantically checking him over and growling at the state of his face, letting out a string of expletives seeing the busted lip had started to bleed again.
I gave a tiny tilt of my lips to Bruce who had the oddest compilation of worried, confused and amused in his expression.
"You should probably get him to a doctor, I think his mouth is cut on the inside," I scooted closer to Banner, informing him quietly.
"I'm a doctor," The man in the cape announced, ... strutting (!) over to Pete. There was really no other way to describe his long, precise strides. He quickly butted Tony out of the way and instructed Peter to open his mouth.
"This is utter chaos," Loki muttered, sitting down on the furthest end of the couch.
"It is and I'm living for it," I sighed. The situation was very disorganized with Tony flailing about in blind panic, Bruce just standing there, Cap's rage quit and subsequent intervention by his buddies. Then the new strange dude... Loki was brooding and honestly? Big mood. The only person who made some resemblance of order out if this cluster fuck was Natasha.
All and all, it was quite endearing. I imagined that's what a large, close family would look like. When I said I was enjoying myself - no lie there, even despite the grim situation.
"How are you? Are you hurt?" Bruce quietly asked me, laced with concern. His shoulders relaxed somewhat when I shook my head negative. "Hungry?" I nodded affirmatively and the doctor produced a kit kat bar seemingly out of nowhere, winking at me with a boyish smile. I just about melted on the spot, tearing off a block and giving it to him to avoid any embarrassing reactions I might possibly spout in the wake of my recently acquired crush.
We munched in silence as the Cape Guy explained to Peter (and anxious Tony) that a few butterfly stitches would be needed as well as CT scan to rule out a possible concussion. At that point Tony was steadily turning purple in colour, rage and anxiety combining for a large storm that no doubt will hit sooner or later.
I felt responsible, I guess. Peter must've known Tony was going to react so strongly to his science son getting hurt and well, I hated seeing Tony so mad and helpless. On soft feet, I padded over to the engineer, making sure to stay within direct line of vision. "Tones?" He shot his eyes at me. He was furious. "Look, I'm going to make that fucker's life a living hell," Tony made an agitated noise of protest however I wasn't having it. I knew I'd be in trouble later but for now, I firmly placed my palm over his mouth, enjoying the surprised widening of his eyes at the frivolous gesture. "Listen, right now you can't do shit. You guys are super-powered individuals and Flash is just a nasty kid. You'll get in a big fat mess and he'll get to go away with a slap on the wrist," Tony sagged, visibly, bodily, and I felt it was safe to remove my hand from his face.
"I hate to say it but she's right," Bruce piped up behind me, voice soft.
I nodded. "I'm going to ruin the guy without putting a single finger on him," Tony nodded grimly and Cape Guy halted his examination of Peter's head to give me a mildly concerned stare. "My mother is a litigator, a vicious one at that. I've learned a trick or two," I winked with a grim sort of amusement causing the man to snort. Tony chuckled humorlessly. "As much as I hate to be the voice of reason, it would be a shame for anybody in this tower to end up behind bars. Even if it would be for a good cause," I finished my speech, patting Tony on the shoulder. The surprised squeak made its way out of my mouth when the billionaire pulled me tight against his chest, wrapping his arms around me in a desperate hug.
Ignoring my skyrocketing heartbeat, I wrapped myself around him as best as I could. Whatever issues the man had, they had to be quite painful if he reacted to the situation so intensely. I was selfish, but not heartless, so I gave into the affectionate gesture despite the inappropriate feelings that blossomed within me.
"I don't know what I've done to deserve you," Peter whined, fat round tears beginning to drip down his cheeks. I could tell he was embarrassed beyond Hell but his feelings overwhelmed him enough to just spill through. I immediately made my meanest big eyes to Natasha and Cape Guy who immediately hugged the life out of Pete. There, all set.
"Now go get that scan done," I frowned, seeing Peter start to nod off. "I don't know your name, but can you arrange that? Since you're a doctor," I nodded to the Cape Guy.
"I'm Stephen Strange," he replied, effortlessly picking up a dozing Peter and carrying him to the elevator. Before I could react, he waved his one free hand in some sort of a circle and a glowing ring appeared with what seemed to be a ER room - Strange hastily stepped through, followed by Tony suddenly withdrawing and hurrying after the ... Wizard? The portal closed immediately after.
"What the fuuuuuck..." I gaped at the now empty space. Strange, indeed. Even Loki's scoff didn't put a dent in my perplexed curiosity.
"So, lawyer family, huh?" Natasha, who I'd forgotten about, spoke up, mildly interested.
"Just my mother," I replied casually. They were the last thing in the world I wanted to talk about, especially after being so upset for the past hour. Man, I needed a drink. My hands itched for a cigarette.
"What about your father?" The spy didn't relent, pushing the issue with deadly politeness - I was actually sure she'd threaten me into talking about it even if I refused to.
"He's a celebrity manager."
"Cool," Her tone perked up at that. "Know anyone famous?"
"Know? No," I thought about all the A-list Hollywood stars I've been around, the endless parade of one-hit-wonder musicians that my dad hung out with on a daily basis. "I've crossed paths with at least half the Billboard TOP 40 but that's about it. Katy Perry was really nice," I added as an afterthought.
"I see," Natasha gave me a thoughtful once-over, patting the seat next to her. "So tell me, what do you have in mind for this Flash kid?"
My smile came out sharp and vicious. People tended to underestimate the quiet, quirky loner and I was about to remind them exactly why my kind of kids usually ended up with either millions in their bank accounts or a lengthy criminal record. "I'm going to annihilate any chance he has with having a social life, a girlfriend and I'll be damned if he gets into college without his parents going bankrupt. It goes like this..."
The ominous beginning of my plan attracted everybody in the room, even Loki. If anything, he offered the most constructive advice and the smirk he wore was positively devilish. Steve, Bucky and Thor emerged sometime during the scheming and hastily joined us, identically grim expressions on their faces. We barely managed to get done with our nefarious cackling when a portal appeared once again, Stephen stepping out of it with Tony carrying a sleeping Peter. The boy's head was bandaged, he looked like a mummy.
I stood up, beelining for Tony. "Is Pete okay? Did you call May?"
"He's not concussed but he's taking the day off tomorrow. Yes, I called May. Pete is staying here tonight," Tony looked and sounded like an exhausted, worried parent.
The urge to squee appeared again and I stomped it down with a hard "Good. We made a plan. The fucker is going to choke on his own misery," I gestured to the people sitting in a circle behind me.
Strange snorted.
Furious. I was furious.
Hands on my hips, I swerved towards him, instantly recognizing the ridiculousness of the situation. Here I stood, an eighteen year old high school student, in my fluffy rainbow sweater and denim overalls, staring down a whole grown ass man with magic powers. I digress, my pride won the race against my common sense. "Ex-fucking-cuse you, Voldemort, that's my fucking friend on the line," I seethed, giving him my best death glare.
"Language," Tony barely held together his laughter, looking at the unfolding mess with amusement. Somewhere behind me, somebody chuckled, then I recognised Loki's signature "ehehe" and it kind of went downhill from there. It's a miracle Peter didn't wake up.
"I'd be careful, Strange, she holds up against Stark very well," Loki's quiet compliment only made me preen and puff out my chest in a display of dominance. Stephen's responding eye roll was more fond than annoyed. I counted it as a win.

a,, a crying katsuki fic— just,, maybe a prank by the rest of 1-a to be mean to katsuki all day but ofc they didn’t expect him to cry??? then they would just baby him the rest of the day the end :)
hi!! sorry for the late response, this took a fair bit of time to flesh out!! it ended up being like 2.5k long lmao OOPS. anyways i kinda strayed a tiiny bit from your prompt but i hope this is still okay :’)
tw// panic attacks and just teenagers being idiots and slightly ignorant in general
-
it started as a joke.
really, it did.
they’d been messing around during lunch, and in the middle of telling a joke, denki had wrapped an arm around katsuki’s neck easily.
it wasn’t anything new, this routine. denki giving his affection, katsuki rejecting it remorselessly.
what wasn’t routine was the miniscule flinch of katsuki’s shoulders under denki’s arm, before he was snarling, shoving the latter a way a little too hard.
“geez man, accept my love!” denki had whined loudly, but the other just cursed at him with hard eyes.
he was grumpier than usual for the rest of the day, but denki brushed it off as one of his many bad moods.
that was, until a few days later when hanta placed a hand at the base of the back of katsuki’s neck absent-mindedly during class and the blonde had whipped around so fast he sent his table flying, explosions already flickering to life in his palms.
“calm down, dude, I was just passing on the homework packets,” sero said, eyeing the blonde’s tensed shoulders warily. katsuki was silent a few moments, eyes scanning the classroom as if daring them to say anything, before he finally snatched the packet from hanta’s outstretched hand and sat back down at his seat with a scowl and his shoulders hiked to his ears. no one mentioned it, simply watching in apprehension. but denki’s brain was whirring.
he mentioned it to mina in passing during english class.
“dude, bakubro’s totally got a ticklish neck!” he said to her under his breath, and she turned to give him a dubious look.
“i don’t think he’s capable of having a ticklish anything, kami.”
their gazes both flicked over to the blonde in question, who was quietly working through his worksheet diligently like the nerd he was.
then, slowly, mina tore a corner off her paper and scrunched it into a ball, before tossing it at katsuki’s back. the two watched in silence as it sailed through the air and ricocheted off the back of their target’s neck. the second the ball made impact, katsuki’s head was snapping around and his pencil was snapped in his grip, explosions flickering in his hands again and earning a look of exasperation from present mic. katsuki’s almost feral gaze snapped onto the duo, and he gave them a look of pure wrath that they met with sheepish smiles.
word spread quickly after that, and it became a small contest in the class to try and touch katsuki’s neck to watch him squirm.
eijirou looked uneasy at the idea of riling him up like this, and izuku was downright annoyed at the little game, giving everyone who participated in it a disappointed frown. but everyone else continued nonetheless, even students like ochako and rikido getting involved.
tsuyu would brush the back of her hand across his neck when walking past where he was seated on the common room couch, and the class would hide their snickers at the way the blonde would jerk to his feet and away from the touch, palms crackling menacingly.
mina would wrap her arms around his neck in an impromptu piggyback in the corridors and get thrown to the floor for her efforts, grinning all the while at the reaction she garnered.
(none of them noticed the way katsuki’s shoulders would tremble minutely even after the touches faded, or the way his eyes would grow distant and panicked. of course they didn’t - not when he hid it behind explosions and loud cursing.)
it went on for more than a week, katsuki growing increasingly irate and agitated with each instance. he avoided everyone more, except for eijirou and, surprisingly, izuku.
he would eat his meals in his room, wear his jackets with the collar popped up. at trainings, his explosions were erratic and frenzied, and in class he would snap at anyone who approached him, reverting back into his anger the way he had in their first year.
“i think you guys should stop.” izuku had said quietly around a mouthful of pork at dinner one night. the class was seated in the common room sans katsuki and eijirou, who were eating in the latter’s room. “you’re getting him worked up for no reason.”
he’d been brushed off easily, the class laughing his suggestion away.
“loosen up, mido,” kyouka grinned, bumping his shoulder lightly. “bakugou’s just allergic to affection, we’re messing around.”
“you can consider this exposure therapy!” mina piped up, earning another round of chuckles.
izuku scowled into his rice. “you’re not therapists.” he muttered under his breath.
that night when katsuki and eijirou brought their dishes down to wash them in the kitchen, yuuga brushed past them and trailed a finger across the side of katsuki’s throat innocently, making him drop his plate and jerk away with a curse.
“will you fucking- stop!” he roared, face growing red instantly and lips parting in a snarl. “stop it! stop fucking touching me!”
yuuga apologized easily with glinting eyes and glid out of the kitchen, leaving katsuki hunched over the counter with clenched, trembling fists.
after a moment of tense silence, katsuki finally dropped his plate in the sink and stomped away, not even bothering to wash it. eijirou followed him quietly, turning to give the sniggering occupants of the common room a glare as he passed.
“you guys are being so unmanly.” he muttered with a frown.
“what an overreaction.” he faintly heard mineta pipe up from the couches as the door closed behind them.
“dude,” eijirou called, speed-walking to catch up to the blonde. he raised a hand to put it on katsuki’s shoulder but was shoved away roughly.
“fucking leave it, shitty-hair.” katsuki spat, storming into his room and slamming the door shut behind him.
eijirou was left standing in silence, staring at the closed door in frustration as he realized katsuki had gone back to calling him that goddamn nickname after the entire year it took to finally convince him to use his name.
it came to a head two days later.
katsuki had been studying at the common room tables while the class was out training. he’d fallen asleep at some point, head buried in the arms he had crossed over the desk.
the class started filtering in slowly at some point, eyeing his prone form slyly as they entered. eijirou was nowhere in sight, probably still outside, and izuku was at an internship meeting.
the one to finally make the move was denki. he sidled up to katsuki, inching a hand towards his unmoving form as the group watched in anticipation. then, as quickly as possible, he wrapped his hand around the back of katsuki’s neck, palm pressing flat against the skin, and squeezed.
it happened so fast denki was left disoriented. one moment katsuki was asleep and then next he was startling awake with a strangled curse, explosions crackling at his palms as he jerked away and to his feet.
“dude, dude, it’s just me, chill!” denki had cried between snorts of laughter, the entire class watching the scene in amusement.
but katsuki didn’t calm down. in his half-asleep state, he lurched away from denki’s outstretched hands with an aborted cry, sparks in his hands growing to dangerously large explosions.
“imagine that,” kyouka snickered into her palm. “the great and mighty bakugou katsuki, bested by a single touch to his neck.”
she didn’t see katsuki’s flinch at the words, the way his face twisted and his shoulders began to tremble.
spitting out another string of weak curses, katsuki turned away from them and towards the dorm rooms only to be stopped by a bewildered eijirou, who had just entered.
“what’s going on?” he asked hesitantly, eyeing his snickering classmates and then katsuki, who was trembling in his grip with a lowered head.
“fucking let me go, please, just stop,” the blonde whispered hoarsely, quietly enough that only eijirou heard it. the redhead blanched at the words, almost losing his hold on the blonde’s arm.
“what the hell is going on?” he demanded, at the group this time.
the class were still chortling slightly, unable to see katsuki’s expression from where he was turned away and assuming his shaking was in rage.
“you think this is how the villains got him?” mineta leered. “just a hand at his neck? must’ve been easy as hell!”
eijirou felt the flinch that ran through katsuki’s body at the words, and the blonde’s head dipped even lower, hair falling over his face. his breathing was shallow, chest starting to heave slightly.
“hey-“ eijirou began, but shouto was already cutting him off with a frown.
“that’s too far, mineta.” he said quietly, looking irritated. a few of the students nodded in agreement, suddenly looking less amused after the purple boy’s comment.
"i'm just messing around!" mineta shot back.
"well don't mess around about tha-"
a choked sob cut through the argument, and they all froze, heads swiveling to the source.
“bakugou?” eijirou asked quietly. the blonde’s body was trembling visibly at this point, shoulders shaking and hand pressed to his mouth tightly. a droplet of moisture fell from his bowed head and onto the floor, and eijirou blanched.
“shit- dude. bakugou.” he reached for the blonde’s shoulder only for him to flinch away from the touch violently, uncontrolled explosions roaring at his palms. another sob tore itself from the blonde’s throat, echoing through the silent common room.
“what’s going on?” mina asked quietly, looking completely terrified.
“someone get aizawa-sensei.” eijirou whispered. “i don’t- i don’t know-”
tenya ran off in search of their teacher instantly, and eijirou turned to the hunched over blonde, gently ushering him away from the centre of the room and towards a corner.
“bakugou,” he tried slowly, an edge of panic seeping into his own voice at the sight of his best friend’s tear-stained and rapidly reddening face. “katsuki. you need to breathe.”
the blonde shook his head, expression twisting desperately. “c-can’t,” he choked out, hand creeping up to clutch the back of his own neck. “can’t, i can’t!”
tears were falling freely at this point, staining katsuki’s shirt quickly.
“no, they’re- i can’t, please-” katsuki gasped, grip tightening at his neck until the skin went white.
eijirou’s eyes were starting to well with tears at his own helplessness, when aizawa-sensei came skidding into the common room.
“what happened.” he asked briskly, maneuvering eijirou away from katsuki smoothly.
“i- i don’t know, he just started-” eijirou tried numbly. “i don’t know.”
aizawa-sensei pulled katsuki out of the common room and into the corridor, and the class was left standing in tense silence.
“i told you guys to stop!” eijirou cried finally, voice shrill as tears finally rolled down his own cheeks. “i told you!”
his classmates flinched, all of them pale and shaken.
no one spoke.
they waited unmoving until aizawa-sensei was walking back in, a still-trembling but slightly better-looking katsuki trailing behind him with swollen eyes trained on the floor.
“someone better explain to me what the hell happened.” their teacher said finally, murder in his eyes.
mina was the one to do it, shakily explaining with stilted pauses how the game had started.
aizawa-sensei listened quietly, expression growing stonier with every passing word. when the pink-skinned girl finally finished with tears welling in her eyes, he fixed them all with a stare angrier than the one they had received after kamino.
“do you all know what that was?” he asked lowly. “harassment. you harassed your classmate.”
a flinch ran through the group at the word.
“sensei, we didn’t mean to-” denki began quietly, but he was stopped by the teacher’s raised hand.
“i don’t care what you meant. i’m telling you what it was. you harassed your classmate and led him to a panic attack. you’ve all been through enough together to understand the trauma that can follow your experiences as heroes, so why did none of you have the common sense to stop and consider why bakugou didn’t want you touching his neck?”
silence followed his words for a long moment, before realization dawned on the class as one.
“oh my god,” ochako whispered in horror, eyes filling with tears. denki and mina went very still next to her, stilling as their own eyes widened in guilt. the atmosphere in the room grew heavy, and their gazes slowly trailed to the blonde sitting hunched at eijirou’s side, still trembling minutely.
“i think you all owe bakugou an apology.” their teacher said finally. “every single one of you except kirishima and midoriya will be attending after school detention every day for a week.”
for the first time ever, there were no protests. aizawa-sensei pushed to his feet, and with a lingering glare at the group of them, brushed out of the common room.
when the door shut behind him, they sat in tense silence.
“bakugou,” eijirou whispered hoarsely to the unmoving blonde at his side. “can i-”
his arm reached out, making an aborted movement to hug the blonde before he paused mid-way. but a moment later, katsuki leaned forward to bury his face in the redhead’s shoulder and nodded weakly in consent. eijirou’s arm settled around him slowly, resting at his hip and avoiding his neck area clearly.
“b-bakugou?” denki started shakily. “i fucked up really bad. i’m sorry.”
katsuki shrugged weakly against eijirou’s chest.
“’s fuckin’ whatever.” he mumbled roughly.
“no!” mina cried. “it’s not whatever! we were horrible to you even though you kept telling us to stop!”
“i’m sorry, too,” ochako echoed quietly. “it was easy to forget how traumatic kamino would have been. you’re so strong that i forgot you were a person like us, and i never thought about how you would have been affected by it.”
there were murmurs of agreement throughout the group as they all gave their apologies to the awkwardly fidgeting blonde.
“this is fucking stupid.” he muttered finally, flushing slightly. “can we just pretend it didn’t happen?”
they all chuckled lightly.
“it’s nothing to be embarrassed about!” mina insisted. “if i was in your position i probably would’ve cried the entire time the villains had me!”
“honestly, i think they’d just return you at that point, ashido.” hanta mused, earning another round of laughter.
“well maybe that was my escape plan the whole time!” she cried dramatically. “we can’t all be inhumanly strong and powerful like our bakugou over here!”
she kicked at his side lightly amidst the class’ laughter, eyeing him cautiously as if checking if the touch was allowed.
katsuki just nodded at her once, making her beam as her shoulders sagged in relief.
“shut up, dumbass.” he rasped, but there was a smile tugging at his lips.
from his side, eijirou watched the exchange with a faint grin of his own.
(later, izuku would return from his internship and receive a rundown on what happened. the class would cower as they received a stern talking-to from the green-haired boy that put aizawa-sensei’s lecture to shame, while katsuki sat behind him and watched the entire thing smugly.)
