Origami "Spearman" designed by Juho Könkkölä, folded by me from an uncut square of 60 cm unryu paper (painted with silver+purple before folding).
I really enjoyed folding this one! It feels very well designed and I loved all of the opportunities for shaping.
Hoping to take clearer photos of this one to post later!! Just posting before I forget. More photos below! Plus a link for collapse guide I found for those interested.

I recently had to do a project in one of my psych classes, and man, I knew that CBT was used for every little thing, but seeing over and over, "do CBT! CBT is the best for every mental illness!" was so jarring. I'm absolutely biased because of my own experiences, but I just don't think it's as universal a treatment model as it's touted.
If you didn't benefit from CBT, it's not because you're lazy or didn't try hard enough or lacked intelligence or foresight into your own needs. Frankly, it's a therapy model that (I think) shouldn't be the only readily-accessible model and among the only therapy models covered by insurance. Some of us should not be treated in a CBT model and that's okay. It's not a sign of poor character or unreasonable demands, and if you don't think it's a model that works for you, then it's your right to express that!
#mental health#mental health advocacy#it was just so annoying because every resource i could access for this project often ONLY recommended cbt and#that just doesn't seem helpful for a good chunk of people#because i know i never benefitted from that model of therapy#obligatory: i am not against this therapy. me having a negative experience with it is not indicative that i believe it should be abolished'#if it works for you: KEEP DOING IT. cbt is not inherently harmful for MANY people and it's a good and valuable tool for many#but the overemphasis of cbt as the Only Therapy Model You Need sends this message that YOU failed...#...if you don't miraculously recover with that therapy model. it often feels like you'll Fail Recovery/Therapy and you're now a Bad Person#i've tried for over a decade to stick out cbt with a dozen therapists to boot. so i think i know a thing or two about my experiences with it#and overall its an unimpressive model (for me) as someone whos had a history with abuse and miscellaneous mental knickknacks rattling around#it's also frustrating because i genuinely like psych and i love learning about people#it's just. i'm tired of only being exposed to cbt (because i hate it honestly)#i feel similarly about cbt as i do with sigmund fucking frued#anyway i just want other insane people (affectionate) to remember that they deserve to not beat themselves up over this#if you're an insane person reading this: i love you i love you i love you i love you#i will share a slice of cake and homemade bread with you <3

[Image description: A digital drawing based on the film Sing Street, depicting the character Conor Lawlor. It depicts a shot from the music video they made for The Riddle of the Model, so Conor is wearing his outfit for that. The gloved hands of Raphina hold a mirror, which shows Conor. He looks forward, mouth open as if he's in the middle of singing a lyric. The background of the mirror is green, while the background of the piece is an electric teal. This background also has red wavy lines on that follow the shape of the drawing. There's some fainter waves in the background, which are light teal and purple respectively. The actual drawing uses a textured brush, with clean lines and grainy shading. It's a dark purple.]

some advice i see a lot regarding how to tell if someone is a fictive or just a character that the person is imagining is to try to imagine them doing something they wouldn't and see if it feels wrong or if they flat out refuse but i was wondering is there any way to tell if you've just imagined them refusing? like, if it's more in character for them to do so is that not simply where your mind would go? how can you tell whether there's a person behind it or whether it's just that your mind itself doesn't want to cooperate??
Honestly, I'm not sure how to answer that. BUT, it does remind me of when our old host met Jaiden (not a fictive) and they read that a way to check if someone is really sentient, you do this specific exercise about balancing a feather on their noise or something. Honestly none of us remember the point of it or how it would have worked, but what happened was, Jaiden was already Real. He split real, Jamie just wasn't sure (thank you denial). Because Jaiden cared about Jamie, he indulged him and did the exercises. But it would go on for DAYS to the point where Jaiden literally told Jamie to just "stop". "I'm real!" and even if Jamie told him to do these exercises, it was annoying him.
So yes, having them do something they'd like is an option. But have you considered annoying them to the point where they snap at you?? SKDFJS
OF COURSE DONT like. put yourselves on bad terms. but its something to think about. A lot of the time when we're in denial, the person we/the current front is in denial about, starts getting annoyed, and then we feel bad about hurting their feelings.
So I'm not your therapist and I can't tell you what's what- but I guess you could also think.. "If I annoyed them, and they react badly to me annoying them, and that feeling of them scolding me makes me feel bad.. why would I ever make that up?"
Also give it some time. Sometimes if a split is new (or you think someone just split) it'll be hard to tell. Denial is a BITCH. If you already are used to having alters or system members in general, The fictive who just split WILL eventually be comfortable enough to be "concrete enough" with you, if they already even know who they are. maybe your brain itself is still figuring things out. We talk about splitting as a community a lot--where spliting is usually depicted as like this FAST thing. but sometimes its slow! which DOESNT help if youre trying to figure out if you have someone or not!

there's something about how the hard-boiled detective* both exists to violently uphold standards of gender and sexuality and simultaneously suffers from this because he's SUCH a parody of heteromasculinity
paraphrasing gill plain's twentieth century detective fiction: gender, sexuality, and the body here, but there are a lot of ways where the detective is over-masculine in a way that loops back around to seeming queer, so he constantly overcompensates. for example, he can't ever marry, because desire shows a loss of control/stoicism, and marriage shows that part of his life is now "ruled" by a woman. however, being perpetually single is also kind of loaded, so he has to be completely alone, because hes so driven by the paranoia that any meaningful brush with men is loaded with queer meaning
at the same time, he has this terrible desire for a person to prove his cynicism wrong--his constant self-destruction has to be meaningful. there have to be good people out there who make all of this worth it! fundamentally, he's too sexist to believe a fellow intelligent "good person" worth his friendship could be a woman, so instead, there's this buried homoerotic desire for "another good man" which again. he has to bury. because even friendship gets laden with dangerous queer meanings
it's such a cage of his own making. it's wonderful and terrible and fascinating to me

I'm re-listening to Magnus Archives, which has led me to doodling the characters again. And when I draw people, I like to find face models to ensure that I draw the faces at least somewhat consistently. (And ensure I don't get caught up in the same shapes over and over) I am struggling so hard trying to find a good face model for Martin. My favorite depictions of Martin have him looking like a calarts cartoon character. Round, innocent checks, curly hair. A perfect woobie to torture over the following seasons. And the only actor I can find who can fit that description is Ron Funches. That wouldn't be a problem, except all of his Google Image pictures are of him smiling brightly. This man is too cheerful to be the avatar (lol) for a character in a horror podcast. I keep looking for actors with different identifiers... Large, fat, Polish, character actors...And nobody feels as right as Ron Funches. But how am I going to draw a sad picture if Ron Funches is my face model?? But, I've listened to Magnus Archives since it first aired. And Magnus Archives was the series that made me want to challenge my drawing by creating unique faces with each character. Surely I have notes indicating a face model I used previously. ...I do... And it was RON motherfucking FUNCHES. I think I just need to face that his is the face I picture in my head.

Month 9, day 25
I stayed up too late >_<
There's a little bit of cleanup work to do on these before I skip through the part of the tutorial I already went above and beyond and did myself without following instructions. Debating with myself if I want to do all this work over again with the other leaf textures I have from previous projects, so I can have leaf options on the vines...
We'll see how I feel tomorrow I guess lol

Very random rant/ramble incoming ^^;
So… I’ve been playing this dress-up game called Everskies recently.
I dropped it for a few months because of boredom; The minigames you play to get currency are time consuming, repetitive, and generally just not worth your time since the rewards are small. I liked the cosmetics in Everskies but the gameplay was just meh to me. But, I got back into it a few weeks ago and…
I didn’t know this game had a shit ton of drama to it 💀
Like, is this just a requirement for dress-up games? Do they need to have bad devs and an equally bad community?? I don’t get it. I’ve been grinding as best as I can in Everskies only to find out the best way to get the most valuable currency (stars) is gone. Also, adding loot boxes to the game that you can only open with 200 stars right after removing said method to get stars is WILD like what’s the point then?
Not to mention, the team claiming loot boxes aren’t gambling is fucking insane too. Like yes, loot boxes promote gambling. You can’t say they don’t. You don’t know what you’re getting from them and considering the best way to get stars to open them is by buying them with real money…? Yeah. It’s literal gambling. Like, be real for a moment, please.
I swear, this genre of video game is just cursed. At this point, I just pick the lesser evils and try my best to enjoy them by ignoring their flaws. I just wanna dress up my OCs man. I don’t need this shit 😭
