what if. hypothetically. i didnt sacrifice the chargers in demands of the qun :(
#k im abt to go on a huge tag rant sorry#tay plays dai#oc: ashara#THIS HAS BEEN ASHARAS CANON FOR SOOOOO LONGGGGGG#BUT I HATE IT#and the more i think about the more im like GOD.#the thing abt that choice is that ill die on the hill that it can be ethical even if the game wants it to be taken as the cruel choice#ashara saves the dreadnought bc she theorizes there are more people on the ship. and she would be actively betraying them if she didnt help#SHE made a deal and she holds true to her deals.#the people in the dreadnought are someones friends and family and lovers like...... they dont mean any less than the chargers do#and also just like.... she respects the qun in theory and has an interest in it altho shes not like. a fan lol. and she wont force bull#into betraying his people and losing his culture over her own weakness yknow. bc she knows he'll be tal vashoth and hunted#and she wants to protect him from that#and it turns out misguided obviously by the end of tresspasser#hhhhhhh#i also think the idea of her being betrayed by blackwall solas AND iron bull is a good foundation for her losing all trust in everything#post tresspasser#BUT. IDK.#I HATE THE IDEA THAT SHE WOULD SACRIFICE HER PEOPLE. BC FUCK THAT NO SHE WOULDNT !!!#she can be ruthless but to her ENEMIES !!! never intentionally to the people shes in charge of protecting !!!#and i dont like the parallel that reinforces to solas yknow. his snide 'what abt ur friend the iron bull' line makes me see red JFGKJFGKJFG#idk#this is so difficult. mostly its the solas thing tho he does NOT deserve that W to hold over her yknow :(

inquisitor meme | accepting | @aniente
10: Are there further beliefs/religious perspectives your Inquisitor is interested in or perhaps despises?
There are very few religions outside of Andrastrianism she’s interested in. She’s more familiar and slightly open to Tevinter’s flavour of it, with nobles from the north occasionally being people the Trevelyans hosted, and for diplomatic purposes is willing to work with them-- especially given the path the Inquisition looks to be going for DA4. She’s also somewhat interested in the Qun? Like, she’s not going to convert, but she asks Bull a lot of questions and ultimately chose to save them over the Chargers. It was mostly a matter of practicality and somewhat cold-hearted math, with the decision to save the dreadnought saving more lives and an alliance. Her feelings probably sour after Trespasser, especially after Bull betrays them, and given their admitted desire to invade she isn’t left with many warm feelings. Finally, she has some interest in the Rivaini religion, although she also disapproves of Seers, so her interest is mostly in theory.
As for despises, she’s certainly prejudiced against the Dalish religion. I wouldn’t say despises, actually, at least not at first, but it’s a matter of semantics. She doesn’t despise them because as far as she’s concerned they aren’t a threat, just ghosts of demons. Once she finds armed guards still dedicated to serving them, once she meets Mythal, once Solas reveals he’s Fen’Harel, it’s more threatening and it becomes a fear-driven hatred.
Other religions she frowns upon, the Avvar religion in particular makes her deeply uncomfortable. She’s pretty ambivalent towards the Stone, although she does think worshipping the dead is an insult to the Maker (they don’t actually worship the dead, just venerate them, but y’know) overall she thinks the whole idea of it singing to be some kind of pretty language, though to describe what she hasn’t thought about.
14: Which advisor did they listen to more often?
Like Thora, it’s actually evenly split, with perhaps a slight favouritism to Josephine. Ruth prefers diplomacy to violence, but also isn’t above a show of force when it’ll save lives, even if it makes them look like bullies. She’s been doing diplomacy on a lesser scale most of her life, especially with her family being as eccentric as they can. The key split with Thora is she’s more likely to rely on Cullen to solve magic-related issues.
20: Which abilities did they specialize themselves in? Explain how the trainers convinced them.
We’re going to ignore for a second that rogues can’t learn this in Inquisition, but her original plan was the Templar specialisation. Ruth had been training to be a Templar, was going to be one and had been planning on it for years and years, when the war broke out. It seemed only natural to pursue that now, especially with demons being an enemy she faced daily.
The only reason she doesn’t go down that path is because she talks about it with Cullen first. Her respect for him and his insistence that she not start down that road make her consider other options. This is before the worst of Cullen’s lyrium withdrawal symptoms are really impressed upon her, but she takes him at his word.
Ultimately she decides to go with Tempest, and it’s actually first and foremost a matter of practicality. As mentioned, she fights a lot of demons, most of whom have elemental weaknesses. A flask of frost against a rage demon or fire against despair can give her an edge in battle, especially if they charge at her, something she doesn’t want as someone whose primary skill is archery. Second, the Tempest spec is stated to be best for offensive rather than defensive situations due to its destructiveness.
I should like a hundred of you to deploy in the cities of my enemy, and not a one to stand as defense in my own home. (Way of the Tempest)
Ruth is almost exclusively fighting on enemy territory that she can tear up if she needs, so she doesn’t have to worry about damage to the land around her.
She also tried to get Leliana to train her to be a bard, but it didn’t work out.
32: What are their thoughts on Skyhold? Is there a stronghold they would prefer over it?
Ruth likes it, at least before Trespasser when more or less everything she’s built is retroactively ruined by Solas being Solas. You might ask how him finding it didn’t sour her to it before, but she can rationalise Solas bringing them there being an act of the Maker working through strange hands when he’s just a smelly apostate. When he was the original owner (something he tells her in Trespasser, partially because he’s spiteful) it just becomes sullied.
After Trespasser she’s looking for places to move, especially with the Inquisition’s sights set north and them now under Divine Victoria’s/Vivienne’s watch. If Skyhold was his that likely means it’s easier to infiltrate, though she never gives up hold on it.
