I hope in one possible ending for Lucanis is that he returns to the Crows as the right hand man of the new first talon Illario.
Let me explain under the cut.
I don't think Illario is, on his own, a good leader for the Crows (at least as depicted in the Wigmaker Job). He refuses to learn about the job and the target until the last moment, and doesn't seem very professional or invested during the job (it could be because it was mainly Lucanis's job, so we'll have to see how he's portrayed in game). He is, however, very charismatic and charming and so an excellent figurehead for the Crows.
Lucanis is the opposite. He is apparently awkward, probably way too intense in conversation, and even the Crows seem to fear him as much as they respect him. But he is very professional, detail oriented, and dedicated to his craft.
So I think the both of them tackling the leadership of the Crows together would make a formidable team.
And, if we can soften Lucanis a bit like we could Leliana, maybe he'll want to reform the Crows, stop the child abuse and torture and buying kids. They'll still be ruthless assassins, but they don't need to be broken first.
With Caterina gone, the Crows leadership is mainly formed of Viago and Teia at the moment (I think the other dead Talons were replaced, but they're new and probably lack influence), and they both relatively nice, as Crows go. Not cruel, at least. So once the Qunari are booted out of Antiva (and the little god problem is resolved), the Crows would be in a good position for a positive change.
