It feels like a moot topic at this point, but any discussions about cancel culture (whatever that is even supposed to mean these days) always piss me off, especially working in news in media, particularly sports.

I don't think you guys even realize how toxic the sports environment actually is and how many players get away with the most heinous shit.

"You can't say anything anymore these days" "people are afraid to say what they think lest they get canceled" bla bla bla. I can name dozens of professional athletes with careers worth in the millions who are actively far right, racist, homophobic, transphobic or just fucked up in any other way. What they say is often waved away without any commotion or just a simple slap on the wrist.

For any person that gets unrightfully canceled, I can name you at least 20 athletes who weren't ever even though they should have been.

#Some examples include:#Tom Brady: friend and supporter to Trump #or the many Dutch football players that boycotted the OneLove anti discrimination campaign because they refused to wear a rainbow armband #out of nothing but sheer homophobia and unwillingness to be associated with anything pro LGBTQ #Or some Brazilian top players like Neymar who actively support Bolsonaro #then theres the complete rabbit hole that is Novak Djokovic summed up as:#not just anti vax but completely anti medical science #and also a nationalist who made insensitive comments towards Kosovo and Bosnia #or all the Dutch football players that came out in support of Quincy Promes who's a convicted cocaine trafficker #the list goes on and on
