please read this before following!
hi, welcome to our fandom blog! we are aster & co, lux, or the asterism! you can take your pick on what to call us ☺️
some info about us:
✨ we're a mentally ill, physically disabled, & developmentally disabled (au-dhd + several learning disabilities) did system! we talk about disability and disabled headcanons a Lot! it's very important to us 💜
✨ we're afro-indigenous (lightskinned). we talk about race often on here, mostly under the context of headcanons and our experiece of being a poc in fandom.
✨ body is 27! that being said, we have several younger parts and might act younger because of it.
✨ we are transmisogyny exempt, or tme! we use he/him collectively. if a specific part wants to distinguish themself on here, go with whatever pronouns they list!
✨ we have a lot of different fandom interests. right now, our main fandoms include:
dc (specifically batman, batfam, & captain marvel, though we have a little bit of knowledge about a lot of different dc characters!)
danny phantom (we are mostly into dp/dc crossover stuff these days)
moon knight (both the comics and the mcu show, though we are highly critical of the mcu in general. we have read very few comics because our brain doesn't process the medium well, but we are currently slowly working our way into the spidey/moon knight teamups as a starting point!)
spider-man (multiple mediums! again, though, we don't read comics much. right now we're writing about mcu spider-man, though as we said earlier we've got a lot of issues with mcu as a whole - its just a bit more accessible than the comics at the moment. we love spiderverse too though!)
the owl house (interest for this is simmering in the background right now but it was a major hyperfixation for quite awhile!)
wednesday (also simmering in the background. we don't think about it much lately but we were writing a time travel fix-it about it that we want to get back to!)
there will be other fandoms on here too but they'll probably only be posted about in passing!
we consume all of our interests critically & we do talk about those criticisms quite often. if you have a problem with that, this probably isn't the place for you.
DO NOT INTERACT IF:
✨ you're a dsmp fan
✨ you identify as a map/nomap, are pro-ship, or glorify/condone abusive, pedophilic, or incestuous ships. discussing/examing these dynamics from a critical lens is one thing but it is another thing entirely to glorify and/or sexualize them. do not follow if you are an adult who reads/writes "smut" about child characters either. that's nasty af and we don't want you here!
✨ you're a white person who kins characters of color. we have had some really traumatizing experiences with people who do this and just would rather not interact.
✨ you're a system who has alters who identify out of race, ability, or transmisogyny status. we recognize that you can't control how parts are formed and who they are formed based off of, but we also know from experience that it is possible to work on minimizing harm in these situations by working with these parts regarding self-identification and internal appearance.
okay, that's it for now! bye! hope y'all enjoy our blog :)

all of ur tags on the endgame sucked post!! >>> i think the complete refusal to accept anything that happened in aos/ac is, yes, as you said, hating-women-o'clock. all of the character development went backwards and they tried to cover that up with action and guns. that one shot with all the mcu women in it was pANDERING and whoooooo boy this movie makes me mad !! glad to see there are other ppl in the 'engame completely ruined the mcu for me' club tho lmaooo
(this response ended up being very very long im so sorry but i get heated thinking about this stupid franchise lmao)
RETWEET to everything you said i remember walking out of the theatre feeling so crappy about the entire movie but not being able to verbalize it and everyone around me loved it and it wasnt until like after spiderman came out and the entire movie was basically about tony and i was like actually…maybe i hate this. and yes the woman group shot bothered me so much russo brothers you owe me financial compensation
and yeah agent carter wrapped up a lot of loose ends from the first cap and it meant so much to me while it was airing and having this movie just completely erase Literally everything that happened in those 2 seasons was a punch in the gut. esp because they just treated peggy as a “”reward”” for steve at the end… it was weird and bad! after peggy had literally moved on!!! and then endgame was like sousa?? never heard of him. by the way steve kissed his literal actual niece in civil war :) we made it even weirder than it already was :)
other mcu hating women moments was captain marvel in endgame supposedly being one of the most powerful superheroes but she only had like seven lines ohhhhhh my god. and killing off black widow… that sure was a choice!!! and i know these are all white women so like the few crumbs in this movie about women were. entirely white. girlboss!1!!1!1!1!2!!32
but even if i overlooked the abysmal treatment of women in this movie it just. wasnt good anyway. everything they did with thor especially was just… yikes! they completely ignored everything that happened in ragnorak they killed off loki in like the first five minutes they gave thor back his eye and his hammer and then they turned his depression into a running gag and it was like haha hes fat now isnt that funny!! *fornite joke* and i was like im in hell im literally in hell
not to mention the way they handled time travel was like the worst take ive ever seen. the plot was just flimsy and thanos isnt even a good villain like there is not really a memorable scene in this entire film and they hyped it up so much. russo brothers how does it feel to be literally so inconsequential (and the fact that russo brothers also wrote winter soldier which is about steve trying to move on from the past…what happened. WHAT HAPPENED?? im convinced they have a ghost writer or something because its the worst 180 ive ever seen.)
agents of shield interlude because its my favorite marvel thing: it is so good. like there are better seasons but there are no wholly bad seasons. i get it if people dont want to watch seven seasons of 40+ minute episodes because that is a LOT of tv but mcu stans are watching all these new disney+ shows and acting like they Invented television and i feel like im losing my marbles a little bit because aos has been here the entire time with the character relationships/growth that these people always gripe about the avengers not having but barely anyone has seen it!! not to mention the five female characters we got who all got their own arcs and were essential to the plot (two of which were superheroes and two of which were black widow-esque spies and one of which was a scientist — and 3/5 were women of color)
were they mad that the only main cast men in this show were 1. a traditionally masculine white man that fanboys would typically idolize who turned out to be a bad guy who was never redeemed or justified and was killed off in a gruesome way because he sucked in every possible way 2. a socially awkward nerd who is not very masculine 3. an old man who is not very masculine either 4. a black man 5. a man that sacrifices himself for a woman (fuck you endgame) and 6. two other men who were most of the time played for laughs because they were less capable than the women of the team. did that hurt their feelings?? that there were no billionaire playboys for them to idolize :(((( that women were given actual depth :((( boo hoo
anyway aos season 4 robot plotline was better than age of ultron, which admittedly is a low bar, but still. i think i watched aos s4 back in 2016/2017 and it blew my mind and i expected the mcu to hold up against it and it never did
#mine#long post long freaking post im so SORRY once again#not to say that aos doesnt have its issues it definitely does#nothing is perfect i just wholeheartedly believe its the best thing marvel studios has produced#i have one friend who has seen all of it and i text her like twice a week with a new aos analysis fjshshfj when will she tire of me ❤️#talk to me about hating marvel any time i love hatred i love being contrary#didnt talk about radcliffe in the man thing i think he was technically main cast?? but he died lmao#also sousa was there for the last season and he was disabled and respected women#any sexist joke in this show was called out!! like the two men played for laughs would make these jokes and other characters#would always call them out on their bs#i mean this shows handling of disability and mental health was questionable#and all of their main poc were lightskinned#also its produced by joss whedon 😐#u think your life is hard? one of my favorite shows was produced by jos- 🤮🤮 by joss w- 🤮🤮 i cant even say it#like i said it is not perfect. it is simply everything mcu stans complain about the mcu not having#good villains good characters GOOD ROMANCE?? actual funny jokes#tv shows are inherently better for character driven stories because they are longer so maybe its not fair to compare aos to the main mcu#but maybe i hate the mcu that much. u suck.#idk i dont see a Lot of content for aos so maybe i just havent delved deeper enough i just feel like it has been completely sidelined#and i literally do not know what other people think about it i never see meta posts about it or anything#this show just. didnt hate their fans yknow. theres a line in s5 where may says ‘we have a small but active fanbase’ and it was so funny#and the ending was one of the better finales ive seen??#in the age of spn n shit. having a good ending that makes sense for ur characters is so rare and this show understood its characters#THE CHARACTERS ARE JUST THE BEST PART THEY WERE AMAZING but the plot was also very good. double whammy.#i just wrote like a 2000 word essay about this huh. it lives inside me.#mcu#aos#marvel

rewatching the gomens show for the first time since it aired. man its sooooo white in here
#i seriously do not understand how zero people in the process of making this show. looked at the casting and went. well#hmm. maybe we should rethink some of this.#but no i guess they were like meh its fine that all out character sof color are wither treated like shit. fill the shoes of racist tropes.#or on the exciting occasion: both!#it really says smthn that out of all the poccies. the two that are ‘main’ characters (anathema and piper) both are very lightskinned.#and of the rest of the poc. two are horsemen of the apocalypse. one is a demon. one is an angel (villian).#the rest straight up die. badly. and so does the demon. he dies horrifically. and yhe black angel is the least developed angel. and when#its time for aziriphale to get shoved around. instead of. oh idk any of the white ones. they have the only black one do it. this doesn’t#paint a picture at all! LIKE#HOW. HOWWWW.#not to mention the making adam and eve black and then just like. immedietly establishing that angels are white like? LIKE?#i knoowwwwwww this is a discussion thats come and gone in like 2019. I know because i was there. but like jesus christ its bad. like guys.#guys. its bad. its so bad.#mi

The Bridgerton fandom is really unsettling. I only got back into fandom for S2 for the first time in years and I forgot how detached from reality people can be and it really kills the fun. In particular, so many people have this resentment for Charithra because she also does show promo and gets magazine covers et cetera? I didn’t like show Edwina very much, but the ire for the actress is so strange and uncalled for. And they have this conspiracy theory that the show hates it’s female leads (??) and has a vendetta against Phoebe and Simone. It makes me uneasy to see them compared because lbr Simone has it infinitely harder than a white actress and I can’t recall how Phoebe was ever shafted. The public favored RJP but that was inevitable. If anything because S1 was less of an ensemble she got more of a lead treatment than Simone. It’s all just very weird and reeks of fans only wanting one POC (Simone) to get any spotlight.
Yeah honestly. Every fandom has its issues, it's just that this fandom... I try to just... not... go into the tags for anything but edits, but... The shit is truly wild. You've got the Edwina haters (that's basically an umbrella thing), the "you're a misogynist if you want Benedict to be bi; you're also a misogynist if you think Eloise is a lesbian, I won't elaborate and I will puke if a single Bridgerton looks at a single individual of the same sex" people; the "PENELOPE ACTUALLY IS AN ANGEL AND I LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND I SEE PENELOPE, IF YOU SAY PENELOPE IS WRONG YOU'RE SAYING I'M WRONG AND THAT IS A HATE CRIME" individuals; and the small but vocal "when romance authors like Tessa Dare watch and discuss Bridgerton, I'm actually being attacked on a personal level"... artists? Lol I guess? Because being that obtuse is truly an art form. And that's just scratching the surface.
Here's the thing with the promo the show does. I would agree with people who say that Simone has not necessarily gotten the consistent shine she deserved, but like... I'm gonna look at how the show boosted Claudia and Nicola more than how it boosted Charithra, tbh. Charithra was integral to the main plot. Charithra was new. And frankly? Charithra has a sizable role on the a major TV show, she did a great job, and she's an Indian woman who is not lightskinned, which means that she would have a tricky time getting hired in almost any major film industry. I'm fucking GOOD with Charithra getting shine, and you can support Simone without tearing Charithra down. "But I just want Simone to get her dues" lmao... If you're commenting on every video featuring Simone, Charithra, and JB with "get rid of Charithra", it's not about uplifting Simone, it's about tearing down the person who isn't Simone OR JB.
There are super valid, serious issues Simone is facing as a dark-skinned South Asian woman in TV and film. When you go from "Simone's not getting her shine" to "just like Phoebe", I know you aren't checking for those issues. It's not about Simone the actress, it's about Kate the character, and these people would be all GET RID OF CHARITHRA no matter what Simone looked like. Because lmao... Phoebe got plenty of promo. (And honestly? While Simone's promo was late, Simone has gotten a good amount of promo. I want MORE, but acting like she's gotten none is purposefully overlooking things, and I think you distract from the point when you act as if she hasn't gotten photoshoots, interviews, etc. She's been on Glamour covers, she's been in Vogue, she was on Ellen a few days ago, she presented at the BAFTAs with JB. I want MORE, but let's not pretend that Simone hasn't been just as visible, if not more visible, than Charithra and very much recognized as the leading lady by the genpop.). People did not respond to Phoebe as much as they did RJP because them's the fucking breaks lol. Sometimes, people get more attention because they were more compelling; I can't argue RJP getting more attention than Phoebe because... Yeah, that makes total sense to me. I don't think it had anything to do with push. She got plenty of push. He just took off and the media gave him more push subsequently because they knew people wanted more of him. Long story short, when you try to act as if the obstacles Phoebe and Simone are facing are equal, you lose the argument. Immediately.
This conspiracy theory is largely an attempt to smear Charithra and give themselves an excuse to shit on her because There Can Only Be One Woman of Color for these people, and that's Simone this season. And imo? Simone gets that largely because she's playing the object of a white man's desire. And they wanna fuck that white man. I don't think it's about Simone lol. I don't even really think it's about Kate--at least not to the extent that it should be, Kate as a solo entity. It's about Kate in the context of the way Anthony desires her, and people's wish for Anthony to desire them in that sense. (In the same way... I know that if JB wasn't out, people would be RL shipping him and Simone so hard--and they try to anyway!).
Again--don't get me wrong. I love Simone. I want all the things for her, and I think they could *always* have stood to promote her more. But you do NOTHING by tearing down Charithra, who I also want all the things for, in order to uplift Simone. It just looks like you have a very small woc quota, and it's being filled by Simone Ashley rather than Charithra Chandran.

Does “coded” talk about fantasy characters ever annoy you? I once explained to someone talking about a Japanese fantasy game series not known for racial diversity, that the people from a desert nation weren’t coded as Egyptian as only the evil wizard and his brainwashed slave were depicted without a pale skin tone and that it was just a very colorist trope in Japanese media that using evil darkens a characters skintone.
Even showing that the brainwashed character was white before she was brainwashed and that every other character from desert nation was a pale white person. They got really mad at me and said I was wrong.
Did I do anything wrong by simply pointing out a colorist trope in the game?
While discussing about the racial coding of nonhuman or fantasy characters is important, there are times when the discussion can be frustrating
Particularly when people insist a character is "poc-coded" when they are played by a White person, and the character is a colonizer that does oppress an actual group of marginalized people. Or when people claim a nonhuman character is "poc-coded" because they are aggressive, dumb.......you get the gist
With that said-
I don't know what game you are referring to, but Japanese media(as most media in other countries do) participates in colorist AND oriental depictions of MENA cultures
If the group of people in this story live in a desert region, then there is a good chance they are supposed to represent a group of Brown people somehow
It's like the anime series, Magi. While the world is fictional it's obvious the main characters reside in this MENA Arabian-like inspired region. I'm using these words loosely because part of the problem with the oriental depictions of these cultures is that they are all mashed together. Sometimes Southeast Asian cultures are thrown into the mix too. It's messy
Anyways you know how in Aladdin, the people are at least Brown-skinned? Most of the characters in Magi are very pale. Like shouldn't go out in the sun much less in a desert sun pale. And like I said that's a combination of colorism (because the heroes NEED to be lightskinned in the series) and orientalism
So definitely what you described is indeed colorist
But even if the people are lightskinned, they can still be Egyptian-coded. We know they whitewash and lightwash Egyptians all the time. Gods of Egypt and most Bible stories shows us this
I can't say for sure if the other person is right or not. I don't know what type of clothing the people in this game wear or what their lifestyles are like. But if it's a type of a culture you can see Egyptian elements or something in that regard, this person might also be right. I would just ask them what aspects of these people make them Egyptian-coded other than "live in desert". It could also be just an ambiguous MENA stereotype

So since Monster High might have a come back, and those uninspired dolls have officially been released...
Sus Rasict things Monster High has done
1. White washed an Egyptian character
Cleo looks so white when she's based off of Egyptian royalty. Yall can't even tell me she's tan or anything like that she looks plain white
If you don't think they whitewashed her you can't deny monster high participated in colorism. Cleo our main boo who the audience is supposed to cheer for is lighter then her sister which we are supposed to hate. Her sister is occasional the antagonist.
2. Over sexualize their black character
Yall can try all you want to tell me otherwise but clawdeen was dressed more scandalous then the rest of the dolls. In the anime version of Monster High clawdeen says something along the lines of "One of the cute things about me is my short revealing skirt."
Mattel let that slide by. Many black characters get over sexualized.
https://www.blackburncenter.org/post/2019/02/20/the-historical-roots-of-the-sexualization-of-black-women-and-girls
Can we just stop sexualizing little poc girls. I remember as a child putting clawdeen skirt on her and trying to pull it down a bit , so it wouldn't show too much. When I tried to pull it down it just went down all her legs.
3. Not good at representing indigenous people skin tone.
In MH they do have indigenous based designs but they don't necessarily reflect the way indigenous people look. A little girl can't pick up the doll and say "hey this doll looks like me" and I think all little girls would like to see them self in things they like. Also a lot of poc end up hating that they aren't lighter. It would be nice if they could see their skin represented in a doll.
Dont tell me that oh it wouldn't work with these monsters because the monster doesn't have skin blah blah blah blah. MH has designed black coded vampires and white coded werewolfs before.
Also I'm so tired of companies having so many white people than sprinkling some black people and calling it a day cause they met the "diversity quota". I'm honestly thinking now that they just put Clawdeen in to say they have a poc doll."Look at how diverse we are." If they really where diverse they would not have white washed a Egyptian character in the first place.
4. They just have whitewashed many more characters
First is Gigi Grant, Middle Eastern people can be light skinned but they're are also "tanned" middle eastern people. MH already got a whole ton of white characters. It would not hurt to just give Gigi some melanin.
Another whitewashed character is Marisol Coxi
Her doll and doll art fur/skin is light pink
But in the webisodes she looks like a black coded character
Idk why they changed the way she looks in one media from the other. Just let us have more poc dolls!
Third is Honey Swamp its possible she is simply a lightskined person which is perfectly fine. But it seems like monster high just likes to deny us melanin enriched dolls.
5. The Tiki
They never had a tiki Monster High character that looked like the rest of the MH dolls. Which would have been nice to see but alas it was stolen from us. The tiki where just a plot device for a MH movie Escape from Skull Shores. They don't ever tease the tiki or anything like that, thank goodness. At the beginning of the movie they just follow these white man's orders , which is very sus.
Another weird thing, is in a different movie Scaris City of Frights Cleo accidently destroys the whole village. Then Skelita (an indigenous based character) tells her to apologize to the tiki but instead Cloe is all like "Hah I dont apologize." then she manipulates the tiki into building a ship for her. That unnecessary scene just leaves a bad taste.
Honestly its sad how the tiki are always being manipulated. I think the media should stop using poc as mere plot devices.
6. Having a white character based off poc aesthetic
Monster high gave Jane Boolittle a jungle aesthetic. They state that she never knew her origins. Honestly I think they are trying to go for a Tarzan type of story. "Oh no us rich white people who decided to explore a jungle and brought our kid with us too..... for some odd reason ..... have had something tragic happen to us. Now our child is alone only to be raised by animals ahhhhwww." Later she gets adopted by another researcher/explorer. MH if you are gonna base a character on the "jungle aesthetic" maybe base it off ohh idk people who actually live in the jungle and not some rando white girl!!
I'm so tired of these stupid colonial based stories first with that werid white con-man in Skull Shores and now these white explorers!! I can't.
(Also Jane being a whole stalker is not cute. Her being a stalker endorses that behavior. A kid might see that and be like "wow she's stalking but that's okay because she's shy uwu. " pls never stalk anyone ever. )
If we ever cancel a Monster High character it should be Jane Boolittle.
7. "Race" jokes
I thought monster high was supposed to be about accepting people but the amount of times a monster from a different race has made a race joke on another monster is not even funny. The discrimination and horrible jokes Ghoulia had to hear right in front of her face is so sad. I think its honestly teaching kids to make/be tolerant with rasict jokes.
"Uhhhhhnnnhhhhng I'm a mummie"
For example when Duce made a joke on mummies doing" zombie motions". Like you got the wrong race and a inaccurate stereotype dummy. These writers were stupid. 😑
I dont think we should cancel MH just Jane Boolittle or anything like that. But if monster high comes back and they still haven't addressed/fixed these issues we should definitely fight them.💖
#monster high#MH#contraversy#racism#feel free to correct ny grammar#feel free to point out other sus things#not the grammar in the tags tho

I don't really talk about my interests outside of podcasts on here, but right now I feel like like I should make a post on my favorite TV show of all time based on conversations I had last night with friends.
DRRR!! (Or Durarara!!) Is an AMAZING anime! One I highly recommend to Anime and non-anime fans alike.
A big issue in the anime community is WHITEWASHING. in shows and in our cosplayers. And here's my favorite aspect of DRRR!!, it has a DIVERSE cast of people! Now, it was made in 2002 so, it's a little dated. But its one of the most ravioli diverse animals I've seen in awhile.
Here's a brief of list of characters (that I can think of off the top of my head) that are POC and LOOK POC.
Simon; They call him Simon for easier prononciation, but his real name is Simeon (sim-y-on). Hes an African-Russian immigrant to Japan. You meet him in episode one passing out flyers at the front of Russia Sushi, he becomes good friends with some of the MCs.
Izaya: Our local psychopath. Hes Japanese, and he looks more Japanese than most characters. He has ethnicity features and is still lightskinned, but doesnt look white.
Kasuka Heiwajima: He doesn't wnter until very late in the series, but he still looks like he's Japanese, which is so good!! They should!! Its so rare in animes that the Japanese charactwes look Japanese!
Walker! I love Walker! He's called by his proper last name in the sub, which I believe is Yamasuki (but I may be wrong). He's another asian who looks asian!! Theres so many in this show!! While most are still pretty white-washed, we have a handful who aren't, and that's very important in anime!! Because, anime as a hole whitewashes their characters so much!
GOD THERE'S A GIRL IN THEIR, I THINK HER SAME IS SAKI. SHE'S ALSO A MC BUT SHE DOESNT COME IN TILL LATE BUT SHE D O E S LOOK ASIAN AS WELL N SHES SO IMPORTANT
Some of the white-looking character even are canonically immrigrants so they have reasons to look white!
There's also body-type diversity! Not all the guys are small little twinkle, some of them were actually built and broad (also a rare occurance in animes) three I can think of right now are Seiji Yagiri, Daichi, and Simon! Theres also the owner of Russian sushi but I don't remember his name right now.
The further you get into the series the better it gets guys!
One of my favorite characters is Anri Sonohara, and while she's definitely not plus size by and stretch of the meaning, she's not as stick thin as anime characters usually are.
as much as I love this show, please now there IS plenty of problematic content in it. DRRR!! is a show about gang violence, the human trafficking community, and in some instances I believe there is some REAL pervert MCs flirting with the underage main group (that's not until DRRR!! 2 however). DRRR!! is meant to showcase the bonkers shenanigans that can happen in big cities and the rumors that circulate, so there's even some supernatural elements!
If you plan on watching this, its on Netflix and PLEASE head the warnings.
#drrr#drrrx2#its still a really good show#there are definitely more#there's so many characters in this show#I mean so many#like 40+

I miss the days I use to watch shows without seeing how problematic it was this is why they say ignorance is bliss it really is, I use to watch shows without really joining fandoms making it easy for me not to see all the horrible things that was going on in fandoms like I never knew before few days ago that Bonnie use to get hate from the fandom it was a big af shock to me how can you hate her she’s the best character especially finding out it came from delena shippers me being one and all so I’m just now fully opening my eyes and seeing how the fandoms really are sure I always knew how certain characters always the poc especially the black characters was never liked or only liked a little never as much as the yte fav or main always ignored sidelined underrated under appreciated or just an afterthought or only liked when they are there for or doing everything for the yte/main character like hyping them helping them get what they want giving them strength encouragement y’all know treating them as an accessory to the main/yte lead the usual sidekick stuff they always do and especially never liked mainly hated in ships if they were coming between their yte favs ships ect but like I didn’t care well I cared but I was like it’s just fictional characters or fictional ships it’s not that serious which most of the time it wasn’t for since I never were part of fandom culture for shows/movies did I like use to fangirl over tvd and my ships sure but I didn’t like digg myself deep in the fandoms which is why I never knew/noticed the Bonnie hate from the fandom
obviously I’m not blind I knew/saw how the showrunners and writers hated her eveyone with eyes could see that but yeah so until I got on trumblr because of quarantine and mainly to voice out my deep love for Maria DeLuca my ship miluca and Heather since the hate she/them was getting was so massive and unbearable to see and I couldn’t ignore it anymore even if it was fictional character/ship as for heather poor thing getting all of that so yeah I just couldn’t ignore since Maria was always my favorite character in the OG Roswell and here too that’s when I started fully joining fandoms and seeing how horrible it was and after I started following @fandomshatepeopleofcolor I kept seeing so much more things I didn’t notice before or didn’t wanna notice bc I just wanted to enjoy the shows, now I can’t watch a show without seeing so many things wrong with it and how problematic it is and it always leads to the fandom in those shows sure the writers aren’t really any better but the fandoms my god are they cruel toxic and just pure evil the things they says and do to undermine a black character for no reason other their in the way for their fav,
before I watched Netflix shows just for the fun and now I cant help notice everything even things that aren’t that obvious like it’s pretty obvious how Netflix has dark skin males but always super lightskin females and never truly a dark skink girl as lead and few times there was a dark skin she was your stereotypical black girl right or how whenever there is black male he’s always the side kick to the yte main lead and never getting a love interest or if they do it’s like showed as tiny part while being in the background ect which leads me to the non so obvious things like the things above were the very obvious stuff right okey so the one time black love is shown on screen of course the fandom hates it and says they have no chemistry they are forced or they came out of the blue out off nowhere that’s of course the go to move whenever a black character gets to be a love interest or in a ship and they want one half of the ship to be with their yte fav typical right not surprising at all it’s just I feel so bad for the actors that play these characters seeing how you put so much work into your character to your ship and people don’t care about it or want your ship to end bc they want two other people together that most suck seeing how they react and don’t give a damn about these actors characters ships or feelings I applaud how some off them just get trough it all it most really hurt anyway this rant has become so long and I just needed to get out the point of it was wow I miss when I didn’t see or was oblivious or ignorantly blissful then it wouldn’t hurt so much seeing all of this day and day out.
One last thing I also noticed how certain cast exclude the black cast members I don’t know if they are doing it on purpose or subconsciously or not but it’s just like no wonder the fandoms are doing it excluding ignoring not caring nor appreciating or following that cast member and only loving y’all together shipping y’all while ignoring a certain cast members when even the you the cast is doing that hanging out all the time excluding that one cast member it makes them feel like they are super close but not with that black cast members so obvi fandom take it as reason not to care or give a damn about that one cast member I’ve noticed it with roswellnm and now outer banks cast sure 3 of them life together so they are always hanging but even with the others that don’t live together they are just always together except excluding ya know sure they may not wanna hang or they aren’t that close and you can’t force a friendship in cast but common a little effort don’t hurt right?

So unless you are Black @wernevergrowingup, I don't really care for yalls input
I don't know about everyone else, but most Black people were still respectful of the actress. Our main concern was that we had another case of colorism determining who was the "right" type of Black girl(by Hollywood standards) that got to play in these movies. And usually, yes, they are lightskinned/lightskinned mixed Black girls. It did not help learning that the premise of this movie focused on how Clawdeen isn't accepted by both humans and monsters: aka a boring typical mixed Black girl story we are sick of hearing
If anything, we got the most heat for even mentioning that Clawdeen and her family were Black-coded
But let us take a look at the lighting issue here. Because yeah, tumblr is known to having so many experts on lighting and color theory🙄
For one thing, lighting doesn't do this
It can come to play at times, but for the most part, this is tanning. This is something Black people have talked about since we first took a look at Mia's headshots. Obviously we encountered photos where she is both lighter and darker. We just also knew the extraordinary fact that Black people can tan AND get fake tans
Which is what a lot of us do suspect happened here. Cuz this just looks fake
This could also be said with Cleo's actress, who definitely is a whitewashed depiction of the character despite the actress being a poc
But hypotheticaly, let's say Mia here really is as dark as she is in the image you provided. Let's say all other professionally done headshots were just lighting issues
You can't fault Black people for being suspicious and wary of this casting
Pretending that you didn't know why Black people were rightfully upset is disingenuous at this point. We explained time and time again how colorism in the film industry harms us
And even if you were specifically calling out NonBlack people who are actually harrassing the actress, you could have just said that's horrible of them to do without downplaying Black people's experiences like this
Also to folks like @mr-walkingrainbow here:
Knock it off with the "not Black enough" rhetoric. Yall keep on bringing this up randomly, and it does nothing but dismiss any conversation about colorism. Because now the focus instead transfers over to how mean darkskinned/monoracial Black people are, once again aligning Blackness to aggressiveness. And if you aren't Black, you need to especially keep out of this
For those that say Clawdeen is whitewashed....
Lighting matters. Here they are in the same lighting and they are the exact same color. Stop finding dumb reasons to hate on Mia's Clawdeen, we haven't even seen the movie yet

"a lot of media suffers from colorism and tokenism. stuff like anime, but also western cartoons, often only center lightskinned POC and/or white people. for me, someone who isn't American or Japanese, i never grew up seeing darkerskinned black people in cartoons/anime/video games. a lot of these cartoons didn't air here. we don't all have the same experience of there being “enough black characters”. i dont think theres enough. and even if there's “enough”, we deserve MORE.”
This x 10000000.
Heck, I AM American and the notion that “there are already enough black characters to choose from” is absurd to the point of being laughable. Prresently we’ve got, like, maybe 10 black protagonist characters (as in main characters, not best friends, sidekicks or tokens) as opposed to the twenty-kabillion white male leads in shows, movies and games. What we’re starting to get now is good and long overdue but it’s still just a drop in the ocean.
I’m a cartoonist (though I haven’t put anything up online yet ‘cause I’m still learning how--I’m old, so I’m still learning the ropes) and while I don’t exclude white characters from my works, I make it a point to go with BIPOC protagonists whenever possible. I grew up in the 70′s wondering why there were so few cartoons starring people who looked like me, and why the few we got was stuff like Fat Albert, Rickety Rocket and Waynehead (Google the latter two). If that makes some folks mad, well, they can stay mad, ‘cause I’m not changing my work.
I've seen a handful of black artists saying that Blacktober is a stupid concept, with other people agreeing with them because there are "Enough black characters already to choose from" and that "You shouldn't darken an already existing pale-skinned character for woke points" and frankly to all of that I call BS. The black characters are always on the sidelines, only there for good boy points. It's really shitty to see how many people, even POC, are saying that this is all a dumb idea. - 🎶
yeah.. thing is, a lot of media suffers from colorism and tokenism. stuff like anime, but also western cartoons, often only center lightskinned POC and/or white people. for me, someone who isn't American or Japanese, i never grew up seeing darkerskinned black people in cartoons/anime/video games. a lot of these cartoons didn't air here. we don't all have the same experience of there being “enough black characters”. i dont think theres enough. and even if there's “enough”, we deserve MORE.
i don't need every black person to love the concept. no one is obligated to participate! you can just continue to create your own content and make your own OCs (a lot of us already do!). but its existence is thanks to many black creatives alongside me, who fell in love with the concept and support it. its thanks to Kiana Mai’s designs (which i loved seeing!), and the racist backlash she received for simply having fun.
on the other side, there will always be Black people who find joy in seeing these reimaginings. these characters mean a lot to us, so seeing them look like us makes it even more special. this is why we cosplay them, why we engage in the media in the first place. it doesn't hurt anyone. these kinds of positive reimaginings have existed for a long time, from other POC reimagining their favorite zelda characters into their culture, to Disney casting a Black actress for the Little Mermaid live action, gijinkas and having LGBT+ headcanons. if it spreads joy and creates representation, its fun to do. ive gotten messages from parents who said their kids were so happy to see black peach. who were so happy to see themselves in my art. if you still think its just a dumb idea, maybe that's a you problem

Well, I'm sorry that I don't have time to scour the entire fucking Internet to find clothing stores that fit your loose definition of cheap. The ones I listed are just ones that I follow or have bought from in the past. Their prices are ranged, meaning it literally depends on what you buy. I also buy clothes very sparingly when i have accumulated money because, as I mentioned, I am broke!
Dollskill has quantity, not quality. Also, they have barely any dark-skinned models too? One look at their front page could tell you that, considering its made up mostly of white and 2-3 lightskinned poc. In the clearance section, I counted roughly 5 poc models in the first three pages. Only 2 of them were dark-skinned. This is out of 72 products per page. So out of roughly 216 products, only 5 were represented by a poc model. I understand that this is the same on some of the other sights I may have listed though, I didn't thoroughly check so I didn't know and that's my own fault. However, I think this is a much bigger issue across most alt subcultures that we all should work to fix. Racism has always existed in most alt styles but that does not mean anyone should become complacent to it. I also did not check the history of killstar, and I'm at fault for that.
You don't have to follow my list to a T. I'm not the supreme Court of alternative fashion. My post was more so trying to encourage people to seek out local stores, or investigate online, or even just find a small etsy store or an artist that does prints. I just think it's important to not waste your money on a brand that has a pretty shady history (I mainly just presented killstar because I knew it was fairly well known and about the same in price to dk, I wouldn't have included it if I had known otherwise).
My main concern is, why are you getting so heated over a brand? In a "Tl;dr" version of my original post, all I said was "fuck dollskill, don't buy from them". I don't understand such a reaction for a clothing store?
Anyways stop fucking buying alt clothing from dollskill. Order online from smaller stores, visit your local stores, buy vintage or just opt for a store that isn’t consistently pumping out ignorant, overpriced and overrated garbage.
