just a little updated theory based on further info, and the vibe that the episode that's getting rid of winston & named after him won't necessarily involve him that much even though maybe yeah it will:
at the start of the episode or really not long after winston has simply quit without fanfare. this is b/c the outside psychiatrist who however many people are going to is focused more on people's wellbeing than doing ABA on behalf of wringing profits out of people / tending to people's egos in accordance to an office hierarchy, not to mention the general hipaa violations & sabotage & hurting you as much as possible that wendy provides (and also....if anyone was going to be the one kicking things off and going to a non-in-house, non-wendy psychiatrist in the first place? it'd be winston). winston's self-esteem / standards have been built up that, after also both episodes have made a point to show rian's hostility, and after [everything since he had to move out of his personal quant basement really. kompenso], he's clocking out of his sunk cost factory.
wendy's confidence abt Other people going aside: winston is supposed to either have stayed forever enduring everything endlessly, or been banished, so just kind of impromptu quitting for no especial reason anyone knows about might be out of order, like, hey your superiors(tm) were supposed to get to fire you. and/or just trying to find out why he did. and/or knowing that it had to do with the rival therapist subplot & wanting more info; likely being concerned if this person is going to have other people quitting, what nefarious advice is being given (that being made miserable, instead of 'oh lol no you see, that's just what i deserve / all i can ever expect,' is: being made miserable). and/or even trying to convince him to come back, which, lol, unlikely, but hey. or telling him to come back. cue wags able to be pissed at winston, trying to force him back the Awesome way (demeaning and abusive treatment of employees, coworkers, people) to prove that this "maybe quitting your job would be better for you" nonsense loses, maybe he's pissed b/c winston's out of line deciding he gets to walk away on his own terms & not be ordered out, maybe he's pissed basically because winston is breathing. however, one thing the physical assault does not do is convince winston to come back to mpc just for someone else to prove a point, or to endure more of that & the personal bullying he gets & the [dollar bill is around hip hooray]
or none of that / it's related to bonnie's subplot actually / some third thing
