Yeah... Everytime the characters in-game talk how the industry now wants idols who can do more than just live concerts, I keep thinking how that's just like the seiyuu. I know many of them like doing various things but it's tough being expected to be all-around entertainers. I personally love that there are so many singing seiyuus and I absolutely tip my hat to the ones challenging themselves (like Kaito Ishikawa) but I sometimes think how many talent there are who might be wonderful in voice work but wouldn't want to sing. Think someone like Akira Ishida. He is talented and has unique voice but if he came to the scene these days, I wonder what would happen because he doesn't sing (he sang something at the height of character song era but that's it). Oops, this got a little off tangent but I wanna say they are surely doing their best. I couldn't do it!
But, fan fact! Some of the Enstars seiyuu who are stage actors or have done stage work too, sang *too well*, too powerfully, for the vibe they were going for some early songs, so Kuwabara & team directed them to be more "newbie- and high-schooler-like" with their delivery.
(And an addition: it can sometimes be enlightening to listen to them in different franchise/project. For example, Koutaro Hashimoto (Yuzuru) is in a 2D music project called Otogi no uta, in a rock band called Mushoku no sora to warau ito and omg his voice suits it so well. Of course I like him as Yuzuru, duh, but that was like... genius casting there.)
I hate every time someone makes fun of enstars VAs singing voices, even if maybe i agree theyre not the best, but im putting myself in their shoes. If i got the job to voice a character in an idol *training* (not rhythm) game and 4 years later i found out they're changing the way they run the game to release new songs every 2 weeks, I'd straight up kms
#remember the shitstorm yuichiro umehara raised when he said he doesn't like doing fanservice#in that way it's kinda fitting he's voicing keito in enstars haha#remember how uneasy keito was when he was asked for fanservice during tanabata in !#and about kaito ishikawa: dawning angels had surprising parts for tsumugi and i thought “good job kaito!!”#and of course the music producers should see each seiyuu's strengths and weaker areas#i think you can see this with mayoi. they clearly noticed what chiharu can do and have let him show off that talent more#i'm still amazed by him because when he speaks as himself it's cute and soft#also from utapri: i remember hikaru saying something like yuma uchida gets the showy high notes cuz he's got the chops#they are both in HE★VENS btw#oops i waffled
