“... sweet”
“You want something sweet? I can get something for you.”
Caught trying to crawl out of bed in the late night hours, you timidly voice your wants after inquiry from your husband.
“... you don't have to, I was just going to go down to the kitchens to grab a snack,” you tug Rios arm as he pulls the covers off his body.
“Nonsense, what kind of man would I be if I didn't serve my ladys needs, especially when she carries life,” Rio kisses you sweetly on the forehead placing a tender hand on your swollen stomach.
You swat him away. “You don't have to baby me just cus I'm carrying your baby, sweetie. You said the same thing when I was pregnant with the twins. Besides, it's different this time and I can definitely grab my own craving.”
“Why don't we go together then?”
~
“What's on the menu for my lady the queen? Something sweet for the little one?” you giggled as Rio held out a spatula ready to prepare whatever your heart desires.
You smiled at the image before you, your husband clad in his bed clothes in the middle of the castle kitchens. As masterfully proficient as he is at cooking, he looked somewhat out of place in his comfortable clothes and messy bed hair.
“I had a feel for some of the leftover sky apple pie from earlier,” you hummed in delight remembering the snack. “And a pickle. I really want a pickle.”
“Hehe, a slice of sky apple pie and a pickle for her highness coming right up☆”
This pregnancy was easily worlds different than your first, and many around you could tell. First of all the fetus swimming around in your belly was not twins which you were so grateful for. Which isn't to say you wouldn't be grateful to have twins again but your first borns wore you down to the bone. You were in so much pain most of the time and the size of your belly was proof. With twins pretty much using your body as an incubator with the added bonus of kicking you in the ribs ten times a day, along with your hormones being on the fritz, needless to say you were miserable a lot. Still though you wanted to see it though and delivered two healthy babies, two large healthy babies.
When you got pregnant again, sure you were happy to have another kid but you were also ready to neuter Rio and blame him for everything bad in the world if this pregnancy was anything like your first. Luckily that wasn't the case and Rios balls could live to see another day.
“Would you like some ice cream with your pie?” Rio asked, putting a perfectly cut slice of sky apple pie on a plate.
“Oh that sounds kinda nice… only if there's strawberry,” you said, imagining the pale pink of the ice cream next to the tasteful sky blue of the apple slices.
“There is… no strawberry flavor.”
“Than no thank you. Where's my pickle?”
You took the plate with the pie on it from him and grabbed a fork as Rio giggled at your demanding behavior retrieving the pickle jar.
You pulled up a chair and sat at the counter happily munching on the fat pickle Rio gave you with a slice of pie in front of you. Rio, pulling up his own chair sat next to you gazing at you happily, elbows on the counter and head in his hands he watched you eat with a smile.
“You look pretty pregnant, you know?”
“... that's not the compliment you think it is,” you side eyed him half joking. “I used to be so much smaller before the twins, now look at me, you've bred me again.” You laughed.
“I think you're beautiful. Gorgeous in fact,” you gave him a look, cream on your lip from the pie. “I know, you don't want to hear it,” Rio wiped away the cream with his thumb licking it off, “but it's true. You're really pretty.”
“You're my husband, you're supposed to think I'm pretty,” you rolled your eyes playfully before smearing some of the cream from your pie along with a little bit of crust on your pickle before biting into it. “Oh this tastes kinda good.”
“I'm also a king, that's pretty high praise if you ask me. I happen to think you're the prettiest in all seven kingdoms if I may be so bold. You're a… what's that word you taught me… miff?”
“Milf?!”
“Yes, that! You're a milf.” Rio said excitedly, you blinked in response.
“Rio… respectfully and in love with you, never say that ever aga–”
“Mama?”
A small voice by the door cut off your sentence.
You both looked over to see your two small children holding hands in the doorway, clad in their pajamas, one of them clutching a blanket that dragged on the floor behind them.
“Papa?”
The twins lit up upon seeing you both running up to where you sat at the counter.
“Gulliver? Adephagia? What are you two doing out of bed?” You lifted one twin onto your lap as Rio did the same.
“Missed you.”
“Weren't in your room.”
Both twins wrapped their little arms around your necks hugging you.
“Oh Angel,” Rio hugged his daughter back tightly as the three year old smiled in his arms. Gulliver hugged you just as tightly, nearly mounting your pregnant belly just to cling to you.
“What are you eating mommy?” The ever curious little boy, Gulliver asked looking at the plate in front of you.
“Oh, mommy just wanted a snack, so me and your dad just came to fix something,” you said, propping the little boy up on your knee.
“Can I have some?”
“Oh me too! I love sky apple pie!”
Yup these are definitely Rios kids.
The always hungry and eager eater twins Adephagia and Gulliver happily stole bites of your pie as you finished off your pickle, Rio wiping their faces and making sure their pajamas stayed clean. Chuckling at the scene you leaned over giving all three of your favorite Voleri’s a kiss on the cheek before shifting Gulliver onto Rio's other knee standing up.
Rio gladly took both twins on his lap looking over to you. “Sunbeam?”
“Nothing I just needed to stand… you guys are so cute,” you wrapped your arms around Rios shoulders from behind pressing another sweet kiss to his cheek.
“You're cuter☆” Rio smiled at you.
“Daddy, do you love mommy?” Adephagia spoke up
“Of course he does ‘Phagia! Daddy's in love with mommy!” Gulliver says pushing his sister.
Rio blushed softly as his kids declared his love for you.
“Hey! Don't push me!” Adephagia pushes him back.
“Oi! No quarreling you two!” Rio lifts them in the air, each in one of his hands separating them.
“Yes papa…” they said in unison, hanging their heads in shame.
“I think it's time we got you two little ones back to bed,” you said, taking Adephagia from Rios arm propping her on your hip.
“Wan’ nother snack…” the little girl said sadly looking up at you with wet eyes.
“C'mon, don't make that face baby, remember last time you went to bed full of sweets? Woke up with a belly ache,” you said.
“What about this? In the morning we can have a big breakfast full of all of your favorite foods, okay Angel?” Rio suggested leaning down towards his daughter, giving her a tender smile.
“Ok papa.”
“Great, are you ready to go back to bed now?”
At that moment as you were about to leave the castle kitchens 3 year old twins in tow a frazzled looking Thoma burst through the door.
“Oh! There you are, Rio! I can't find– oh.”
Upon seeing the little ones held in your arms Thoma put a hand to his chest to calm his racing heart as he leaned back on the door frame with a sigh of relief.
“... I went to check on the twins and they weren't there… I thought I lost them. Then you lot weren't in your rooms either! Was about to turn this place on its side looking for you!” Thoma ran a hand through his hair, not tied in its usual ponytail.
“Uncle Thoma!”
You gave a small chuckle as Thoma looked so stressed, thinking your children had gone missing. The valet loved supporting your family and helping raise the kids (he nearly cried the first time he twins called him uncle) but he stressed himself out with his self proclaimed nanny duties. From the very beginning Rio assured Thoma didn't have to take on any more duties since being promoted to King and him up to head valet but Thoma wanted to do this and your kids loved him, and you're sure he loved them too.
“Oh Thoma,” you stood next to him putting a supportive hand on his shoulder. “I think you should get some rest too, you're gonna get gray hairs early.” You chuckled.
“I may already have some.”
