Hermit PVP x Pokémon

I wanted to do something a little different for this day, so I drew Pokémon!

I really enjoy the Hermits impromptu battles on Gems (unintentional) beach arena, so that's the group/collab moment I decided to draw for today. And for that, I thought Pokémon would be perfect!

This is more of a design challenge than a style challenge today - all the Hermits were redesigned as regional variants of existing Pokémon. So instead of putting my references under the cut, I'm going to put the Pokémon I created variants for and their variant typings. See if you can guess them before you look!

The New Swordsman of Void

Heroes' Odyssey: Zero explains how two years after Tiga defeated Gatanothor at R'ly3h, Camaerram Darramb and Hudra revived, then the battle between the dark giants and light giants, and Tiga reappearing as Tiga Dark. Battling Darranb, Tiga absorbs his power to become Tiga Tornado and defeat him, struggling with Hudra, he manages thanks to Iruma to absorb his power and evolve to Tiga Blast and defeat him. Battling Camaerra, he evolves to Mult-type to protect Rena, but Camaerra becomes Demonthor. Defeated, Tiga is granted power by the remains of the fallen giants of Light, and as Glitter Tiga defeats Demonthor. Afterwards, Zero, Z and Tiga see us off.

Saber: Storious now has the books for Storious, Legeiel, Zooous as well as Omni Force, now having the power of 4 of the Five First, needing one more. Tassel promises Luna they'll meet Touma soon, but he needs a moment. Desast questions what Storious is planning. After a celebration at Northern Base, Tassel appears there. Ren wonders where Desast is. Hearing Storious intends to end the story, Desast intends to stop him so his own fun can continue, transforming into the new Falchion to battle Storious. Tassel explains to Tiuma about his past, Touma's future, the Tome and Wonder World. Viktor was an explorer, trying to find the source of all knowledge, he and 4 friends hoped to bring about a world free from things like disease and suffering. One day, Luna's ancestor appeared to him, granting him the Tome and creating Wonder World from it. He brought his friends there, and they all discussed how this was the start of achieving their goal, but then Storious, Legeiel and Zooous were seduced by it's power, each tearing out a page which became their Alter Books and made them the Megiddo. Storious, battling Desast, makes clear he's been working toward this from the very beginning. War broke out, and "Sophia" split the Tome into many pieces, ending her own existence, but the war continued, Viktor and the First Master Logos dividing the remains of the Tome between them and going their separate ways. Storious goes on about the beauty of endings, and how he's seen Legeiel, Zooous and Izaak's, and now, via Charybdis, it's Desast's turn. Touma questions why Tassel didn't use his power to end the fight, but Tassel explains he cannot affect their world as a result.p of receiving power, as Mei goes right through him. Desast finishes Charybdis, but it's like him and revives. Tassel has only been able to watch for 2000 years. He found hope when Luna appeared and chose Touma, but Izaak manipulated Kurayami 's visions to bring about the events of 15 years ago. Touma will receive power when he meets Luna again, but he will then fade from this world, no one is happy with this. Storious goads Desast by threatening Ren, leaving him open to an attack from Charybdis that partly consumes Desast's book, Desast defeats Charybdis and flees. Touma says he'll see Luna, but will change his fate and stay with everyone. Tassel decides it's time to fetch Luna, while Touma seeks Ren. Charybdis, at Storious' becking, begins moving places into Wonder World. Ren asks Touma why he's so strong, then asks if he will disappear, Touma swears not to, then heads off, Desast then appears to Ren, holding his own damaged book. Charybdis tears apart dimensional walls as Ogami and Daishinji arrive, Charybdis fights them as Storious enters Wonder World. Touma arrives, the 3 Swordsmen all dual wield to defeat it. Desast tells Ren to fight him or die, as Tassel returns home to find Luna gone, and Storious arrives.

Zenkaiger: There's spooky times afoot at the elementary school, Magine jobs the kids to investigate, followed by Kaito and Vroon. Zyuran suspects Tojitendo, but Yatsude isn't so sure. Flint and others trip over invisible objects, Zox spots the culprit, Tomei World (with some The Invisible Man designs) and starts fighting, the Zenkaigers have to come help before reaching the school, Gaon uses Zyuran as a shield, getting Zyuran and Zox's siblings turned invisible. Boccowaus doesn't care much for the plan until Gege supports it, but Barashitara and Ijirude both see this as his mood improving. Magine is upset about the fact it's likely the mysterious happenings are caused by Tojitendo, feeling the kids will be disappointed it's not a real haunting, but they decide to use Zyuran's current state to give the kids something to investigate. Zyuran causes chaos in town heading for the school, as does Tomei World, Twokaiser battles him. Magine is furious about having to disappoint the kids again. Tomei World makes the Kudakks invisible, allowing them to overpower Zox, when the Zenkaigers arrive. Magine is terrifying here. Zenkaiser uses Sun Vulcan for a Sun Vulcan Ball with Vroon and Gaon on the Kudakks, while Magine and Zyuran smash Tomei World. The Tojiru Gear flies up to the previously invisible Kudaitest, which becomes Dai Tomei World. Due to a number of invisible structures ZenkaiOh ZyuraGaon struggles, and then Zyuran is made invisible again, making Zenkaiser visible. ZenkaiOh VrooMagine takes over, joined by Twokai-Oh Riki. Zyuran splits from Gaon to attack invisibly, Dai Tomei World removes his own bandages to also be invisible. Magine's magic allows them to see him to hit him. They find the kids, who have still managed to see spooky activity in the school, Zyuran managed to do it before turning visible, but sees a real ghost while the others head to school. Stacey doesn't know what he wants anymore.

Spectre + Blades: The 2 remaining followers of Danton are determined to capture "Léon" to achieve perfect evolution, turns out they have at least 4 of "Kanon" all desperate to find him, a hooded guy watches. The real Kanon arrives from Ganma World, aiming to protect Makoto, who is doing his healer thing still. Mei and Ribtaro spot one of the Kanon clones still desperately seeking Makoto. At Daitenkuu Takeru talks with Kanon, turns out it was her who called Takeru last time, wanting to help her sisters and protect Makoto. Desast smells Kanon. The Kanon runs away from Mei and Rintaro, who find our Kanon, and all 3 run into Desast trying to make this one his sister. Kanon wants to protect her sisters, but also keep them from Makoto, believing learning of them will just hurt him more. Blades fights Desast as the followers arrive with the other Kanons, transforming into a Ganma Superior like Igor, and a Ganma Ultima Ebony. Kanon for the first time becomes Kamen Rider Kanon Spectre. Afterca bit of fighting the Ultima decides to just absorb the 3 Kanons, which sets Desast off on him, then grabs and absorbs the last, evolving I to an Evolude form, Desast leaves while Kanon is upset about failing to protect her siblings. They defeat her, intending to use her as bait, when Makoto arrives, promising to save her and her sisters, and says Danton's dream is dead. Rintaro saves Kanon, and Makoto hands him the Book Spectre Gekikou Senki, which Tassel gave him and told him what was going on. Blades use it, powers largely based on Deep Spectre, fighting with Spectre and Kanon Spectre. Blades fights the superior, the siblings the Ultima. After a moment Spectre uses Sin Spectre, pulling the other Kanons free, then lends Blades the Deep Slasher for a finisher, while brother and sister defeat the Ultima. Makoto accepts the other Kanons as his family, and Takeru and Touma arrive, Rintaro envious of the family they have but is accepted by Touma and Mei. There's still this hooded guy to worry about though.

Dogengers Nice Buddy: Before we start, a note on the AHK member's new forms. Yabai Kamen, Uzagi, Nectaris and Maid Shitsuji are all referred to as just being "new", possibly indicating their status as permanent updates. Shuraomaru's is referred to as "Cinkonka" meaning requiem, Gulf is Mode: Saber, Gallia is Mode: Judgment. Great Z attempts to block an attack with the Affect System, but realises he doesn't have the Affect System control headset, fortunately his father has retrieved it controlling the Affects as Riku fights. The Heroes unite, and the last drone teleports everyone elsewhere, then shorts out and starts to fail. Great Z receives power from the heroic lineage from Great A to himself, becoming Great 2, the Buddy pairs roll call, Metal stands to one side, everyone preps for the explosion on Ohgaman saying Dogengers, but it doesn't come until "Nice Buddy". Fukuokaliber faces Nectaris, Yamashiron splits against Uzagi, Aoiron and Daidairon restraining the shadow body, Kitaqman and El Brave face the Marou Kaijin, Kitaqman Metal battles Shuraomaru, inspired by his brother's memory, while Rookie and Ohgaman battle Yabai Kamen and Maid Shitsuji. Great 2 defeats Karamis, Yamashiron and Fukuokaliber Nice Buddy Buster their opponents, Kitaqman dual wields while El Brave physically fights the Marou Kaijin, Metal and Shuraomaru have a single stroke battle. Ohgaman throws Rookie his Buddy Buster, leading Rookie and Yabai Kamen to have a Dual Wielding duel. Ohgaman defeats Maid Shitsuji, at which point Shaberryman shows up with a gold necktie trying to explain himself, it has a reaction with the Golden Seal power in his combat form (which I think he hasn't worn until now thus season) and turns it into a giant vehicle thing with him chained to it. The Dogengers use Nice Buddy Buster alongside Great 2's finisher to defeat it and Yabai Kamen. We end as we began, a note of the Dogengers becoming celebrated for defeating Yabai Kamen, who had to make a public apology again. Hanagata tells Great 2 it's time to start his story, he already has plans with Ex which he seems not too enthused by, the Dogengers come and greet him afterwards.

Episode 13

Scene 14:

[Suddenly Latios disappears and Naihi starts and tenses. For a split second Ren is afraid she has offended him.]

Naihi: Another trainer approaches!

Ren: [relieved] Oh, that should be Kai.

[A few moments later Kai and Jay wander out of the trees. Ren runs up to them.]

Ren: Kai! [She hugs him tight and he hugs her back.] I'm so happy to see you!

Kai: Good to see you too, Ren. How are things?

Ren: Uhhhhhhh…

Kai: Don’t worry about it, we can talk later. [catching sight of Naihi] Whoa, is that the absol?

Ren: Yeah, her name is Naihi.

Kai: She must be a longclaw variant. People say that they are the strongest variant but really difficult to catch and train.

Ren: My string of luck continues.

Kai: I guess yeah.

Naihi: Greetings friend of Ren.

Kai: Hello, nice to meet you. [to Ren] Her telepathy feels so strange. I mean, I haven’t met too many psychic-types but…

Ren: Yeah, this is different for sure. I’m glad she can though. It’s been making things a lot easier.

Kai: And is that your anorith?

Ren: Yep! That’s Pohaku. I can’t wait for you to see your lileep. She’s so cute. They kind of look alike, actually. I think they both used to live in a coral reef.

Kai: Awesome! I’m so excited for tomorrow!

Ren: [smiling] Me too. I want a bed and a hot shower. But first, you want to have that battle you promised me?

Kai: Yeah! Jay and I are all warmed up from climbing this morning.

Ren: Three v three battle?

Kai: Four v four. We have a new member now.

Ren: Oh right, the swellow you told me about. No type advantages?

Kai: Sounds good. Ready, Jay?

[Jay nods and the trainers enter the battle terms on their navs. Jay steps forward and Ren sends in Ao as she is the only one who isn't vulnerable to fire or fighting.]

Kai: Blaze kick!

Ren: Charge beam!

[Jay has gotten fast, but Ao is even faster. She darts just ahead of Jay's flaming kicks and punches, little more than a blur to the unaided eye. Each time she gets far enough away, she fires off a charge beam. Jay takes these attacks as if they are mere annoyances, never ceasing her pursuit. Finally Ao comes to a stop and faces Jay head on, preparing to unleash a discharge. Jay uses flame charge, barreling towards her at full speed. A wall of electricity arcs out from Ao and connects with the burning Jay, creating a blinding explosion of light. A fraction of a second later, Jay barrels into Ao, sending her sprawling. She looks up at Jay and bows her head in defeat a moment before Jay's fire goes out, she staggers, and she falls. Next up is Tāraki and Dusty. Dusty starts off the match by lowering his head and charging Tāraki. His form has improved and he looks more battering ram than pokemon as he accelerates towards his opponent. Undaunted, Tāraki tenses as if to catch him only to dive out of the way at the last second, tail sweeping low. Dusty pitches forward, but is prepared for the tactic. He tucks his head in as he lands on it, spine going from ramrod straight to perfect wheel. He rolls a few times before popping back up to his feet. The next time he charges, he goes for a succession of quick jabs. All of Tāraki's practice with Putenga seems to have paid off as he successfully parries with dual chop. Dusty slides back but uses the distance to lean on his tail and strike out with his powerful hind legs. Tāraki stops the blow with crossed arms and un-steadies Dusty with x-scissor before swinging his tail around and toppling the teetering breloom with a slam. Dusty groans and Tāraki crows his victory. Next is Kiko versus Akahata. Akahata charges in, jaws sparking, but Kiko overwhelms her with a surf. He charges at her through the water, but she swims down in time and digs into the soil. The swell of water runs off and Akahata bursts out of the ground next to Kiko and grabs his fin, jolting him with electricity. He winces but rolls sideways, flinging Akahata through the air and into the ground before rolling over on top of her. She pretty much disappears beneath his side, but apparently does not release his fin as he is jolted once more and rolls off her. He deflates and she gets up and shakes herself off. Finally Kai sends out his newest pokemon: a rufous swellow. Ren sends in Māia to face her. She looks Māia up and down with obvious disdain.]

Ruby (swellow): [looking back at Kai] A taillow? I thought you said this trainer was strong.

Kai: [embarrassed hiss] Ruby!

Māia: I don't need evolution to win.

Ruby: Them's fightin' words! Bring it little birdie!

[Ruby spreads her wings, preparing to take off, but Māia just squares her shoulders and takes a deep breath. Ruby brings her wings down and launches into the air just as Māia fires off a boomburst at her. The sound wave misses but buffets her as she ascends.]

Ruby: Whoa. [as Māia launches into the air] So you have a special move? So what! [rushing towards Māia, wings glowing] You'll need more than a trick to beat me!

[Māia dives under her, just out of range of her reaching talons, before using her increased speed to swoop steeply upward. She performs a flawless loop de loop and strikes Ruby in the back with an aerial ace. Ruby rolls in the air and catches Māia across the chest. They are both forced to recover. They circle each other and this time Māia initiates with steel wing. Ruby blocks it with quick guard and blows Māia back with her wings. Māia flies off in the other direction before climbing.]

Ruby: Oh no you don't!

[Ruby speeds after her. Māia swoops this way and that to try and shake her, but Ruby eventually catches up and grabs Māia in her talons. Māia struggles to get free as she dives. As they fall Māia stops struggling and uses steel wing. The added weight sends them plummeting faster. Ruby pulls up and lets go. Māia waits just one extra second before opening her wings. She skims over the ground before using the momentum to climb. She flips just as she comes to a stop and dives downward. She is in the sun and takes Ruby completely by surprise. She slams into her and bears her to the ground. Māia pushes off her back just in time and circles around to land in front of her trainer. Ruby struggles to get up, wings shaking, but collapses. Kai goes to her and applies a potion.]

Kai: [scooping her up] Come here, Ruby. You see, that's what you get for trash talking.

Ruby: Hey taillow! Next time we meet, I'll be stronger and I won't loose.

[Māia just shrugs, clearly unimpressed. Ruby looks furious and starts struggling in Kai's arms.]

Ruby: Are you refusing my challenge?! You coward! How dare you—

Kai: Ruby! Cut it out!

[Māia flies to Ren's shoulder as Ruby flails and yells obscenities. Kai tries to quiet her for a few more moments, but in the end recalls Ruby to her ball.]

Kai: Sorry about Ruby.

Ren: Oh, am I lucky I can't understand her?

Kai: Haha. Yeah. I’m hoping she’ll calm down a bit. She is super competitive. [He sighs.] I’m not ready for this gym yet. My two best battlers have a severe type disadvantage. Maybe we’ll just tag along for support this time.

Ren: Hey, that’s okay. You could always train with us for a little while. I’m sure we could take the gym, but most of my team has been on break for a while, so we could all use more practice. Maybe you should take a little break from research and get your team up to snuff. What do you say?

Kai: That sounds great actually. Thanks, Ren.

Episode 20

Scene 9:

[The next day they run into Ty and Gabby in one of the huge caverns. Ty is panning his camera around getting some landscape shots while Gabby sits on the floor nearby sorting through her sound equipment, which she has laid out around her. Ty spots Wally and Ren through the camera before looking up. His face lights up and he taps excitedly on Gabby’s shoulder. He signs to her as Ren and Wally get closer and she stands up and smooths out her clothes.]

Gabby: Hey there Ren, fancy meeting you here. And is that Wally from last time?

[Ty signs “I told you we would catch her if we just hung out here long enough.” Gabby signs back: “shut up! They can both understand sign, remember?”]

Ren: [signing along] Hoping for another interview?

Gabby: You caught us. Those two episodes with you have blown up since the Groudon incident. It’s really boosted our profile and we thought: what better way to strike when the iron is hot than getting another interview before you challenge the Elite Four?

[Ty signs: “pretty please! It would make our careers.” and bats his eyelashes. Gabby signs: “you’re shameless.” and he replies: “I’m excited!”]

Ren: I’ll battle you again. Taraki and I could use the exercise.

Gabby: Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. How about you Wally? We’d love to have you and your shiny gallade on again.

Wally: S-sure.

Gabby: Thanks! You two are the best! Just give us a moment to set up.

[Gabby signs: “you’re a genius. I love you” to Ty as she goes to get her earpieces and he signs: “I love you too” back. Wally slaps his hands over his mouth so as not to squee but his face gets rather red. Gabby hands them each and earpiece, and the duo sends out their pokemon. Nell is now an exploud and AC/DC has evolved into a magnezone.]

Ren: They both evolved!

[Ty signs: “awesome, right?” and Ren signs: “awesome!” back.]

Gabby: AC/DC evolved just a few weeks ago.

Wally: Kai and I watched the episode on our way to Mossdeep. It’s my favorite.

Gabby: Mine too. The big dork over here cried and I got to film it.

[Ty signs: “I was so happy I didn’t even think about us having to invent signs again. We’re still getting the hang of it, but now they can carry me up to get aerial shots and it’s so cool.”]

Ren: That’s so great! One more question before we start though: would you like Wally and I to mega evolve our pokemon? It could be cool, but the battle will probably be over faster.

Gabby: Oh, that’s a tough call. What do you think, Ty?

[Ty signs: “we should go for it.” Gabby smiles and turns back to them.]

Gabby: Alright, let’s do this! [Ty adjust his camera and Gabby gets in position.] Hey there double battle fans! It’s you Dual Pulse hosts Gabby and as always Ty behind the lens. In case you weren’t watching the last episodes, Ty and I have been scoping out the talent in that hallowed place of challenge, Victory Road. Today we are joined once again by [stepping aside to reveal them] Ren Kosugi and Wally Scott! Ren has eight badges and is on her way to fight the Elite Four and maybe even the Champion.

Ren: You bet!

Gabby: And what about you, Wally?

Wally: I have eight badges too, but Ren is my pal, so I’m gonna let her be Champion for at least a few months before taking the title.

Gabby: Whoa! I think Ty and I are in for a beatdown but we’ll do our best! Everyone ready?

[Taraki, Kihei, Nell and AC/DC step forward while their trainers clear the field. Ren and Wally look at each other and touch their keystones, Ren’s in her glove and Wally’s set in his pendant. Taraki and Kihei are consumed by light and mega evolve.]

Gabby: A double battle with double mega evolution. We’re at the highest levels now folks!

Ty: Barrier!

Gabby: Howl!

Ren: Leaf Blade!

Wally: Close Combat!

[The magnezone projects a barrier in front of them while the exploud powers up. Taraki and Kihei smash through it in perfect sync and lay into the exploud and magnezone respectively. The magnezone flinches from the onslaught but the exploud retaliates with a hyper voice that knocks both Kihei and Taraki back. The magnezone targets Kihei with zap cannon, but Taraki absorbs it with his tail, to the shock of all. Ren’s eyes light up and she has Taraki switch targets while Kihei goes after the exploud with another close combat. Taraki dodges around the magnezone’s flash cannon and chips away at it with Leaf blade only to be knocked aside along with Kihei by another hyper voice from the exploud. The magnezone takes the opportunity to nail Taraki with a flash cannon but Kihei comes to his aid and finishes off the Magnezone with a final close combat. By this point Kihei is quite vulnerable and the exploud aims a stomp at him. Taraki catches the blow with an x-scissor and then retaliates with dragon claw. The exploud goes down and Taraki and Kihei return to their normal forms.]

Gabby: What a battle! I can’t believe we got to see two mega evolutions with our own eyes! And mega sceptile’s ability is lightning rod! Jot down that piece of trivia! I’m really proud of how well we held out, but there’s just no topping these two trainers! The whole world better tune in for this Championship!

[They all heal their pokemon and Gabby interviews Ren and Wally. She asks about his necklace and he tells the story, which Gabby loves. Ren and Wally go on their way but they look back and see Ty and Gabby hugging and jumping up and down. Wally dances from foot to foot with excitement as they round the bend out of sight. He pulls out his nav and starts texting rapidly.]

Ren: Are you texting Kai?

Wally: I have to tell someone! Ahhh! Did you see them together? It was sooo cute!

Ren: Haha, yeah.

Wally: I wonder if they’re a couple? They’re never like that on the show.

Ren: Well couple or not, they spend a lot of time together. They must be very close.

Wally: I wanted to ask but it seemed too personal.

Ren: Probably best. You had an easier time with the interview this time around. Actually your confidence has gone through the roof in general. You may want to reign it in a little.

Wally: No!

Ren: So are you going to ask Kai out?

Wally: Oh, um, I don’t know. We’re pretty close now, but I still can’t tell if he likes me or is just super nice. Arceus, I really hope he likes me back. He’s so cute and so smart and he doesn’t treat me like I’m made of glass. I was so worried things would change after Groudon because I scared the shit out of him, but it didn’t. He’s there to help me if I need it but he doesn’t hover and he lets me decide what I can do. Well, he did second guess me a little at the beginning but I told him that it bothered me and he listened. I can’t believe how great he is. I love the sound of his voice and how excited he gets about science and that face he makes…

[Wally gives a dreamy sigh and Ren laughs.]

Ren: Well that’s good because there’s no shutting him up once he gets going.

Wally: He’s perfect!

Ren: No one’s perfect, but I’ll admit he’s pretty great… He might have a thing for you, you know.

Wally: Really?

Ren: Not a hundred percent here, but I was watching the two of you together and It seems like there’s something there. What I can say from experience is that if you wait for him to make a move, you could be waiting a long time. He’s not as brave as you are.

[Wally considers that for a while, staring off into the distance.]

Ren: No rush, man. I really hope it works out though. You two are adorable.

Wally: Wait, does that mean you ship us?

Ren: Oh, uh, I don’t know if—

Wally: You totally do!

[They continue to debate as they and their pokemon disappear around another corner.]
