Was watching this week's episode of the Weston arc and...
Imagine being the oldest sibling and having a genius little sister
Imagine seeing her as exemplary, but then one day, she develops insecurity issues because of your cousin who also happens to be her fiancé
So imagine trying to make up for it by becoming extremely supporting of literally everything she does
However, because it's not working, imagine becoming quite competitive with the boy you believe was the one who made her insecure...
All that to say I really think Ed used to have negative feelings about real!Ciel making Liz insecure (by accident?) and not being good enough to make his little sister feel better when he, on the other hand, sees her as a genius.
The Campania arc changed all that (between Ed and our!Ciel) obviously...
and, as explained above, Weston arc made them closer, so I fully expect Ed to be 100% on our!Ciel's side in the currently on-going Twin Feud.
Lastly, the difference between Ed admitting defeat...
and real!Ciel admitting defeat is immensely striking and that's one more argument making me think Ed will definitely choose our!Ciel's side against real!Ciel's (it's yet one more example belonging to the "nothing can outshine the original" theme of the twins' conflict).
TL;DR There is no meaningless comic relief in Kuroshitsuji. Ed is not a siscon. He's a good guy who took it badly at heart, when his genius little sister lost confidence in herself.
I didn’t find this on your blog but do you think OC and Edward used to be closed ? Closer than Edward with RC ? I find it strange we didn’t see a lot of interactions with the Midford family in OC’s flashback, besides with Lizzy ofc. Thoughts ?
Hey Anon, thanks for checking beforehand!
I actually think it’s possible that Edward was closer to our!Ciel than real!Ciel, yes. I have this theory that Ed blames real!Ciel for his words to Lizzie back when they were kids, which probably created a rift between Ed and real!Ciel. Until the Campania arc (though Ed didn’t know then who « Ciel » was).
Just with the example of Lizzie’s distress alone, it’s not impossible to imagine that Edward would appreciate our!Ciel more than real!Ciel, but there’s also this scene…
Ed’s comment in Weston makes me wonder about if he’s reminiscing about the past, since the twin often says he only cares about his little brother, or if he’s just roasting our!Ciel as a usual habit.
The Weston arc definitely brought the two boys closer though and I like to imagine that the investigation to bring Lizzie back home did too.
Lastly, Edward is very similar to our!Ciel as a character so I like to think the different flashbacks so far (Ed’s in Weston and our!Ciel’s more recently) hide for now how close they might have been, compared to Ed & real!Ciel or Liz & real!Ciel mostly.
As always I can be wrong though, so please take with a grain of salt. :)
Have a good day !
