there's a thrill in someone inadvertently revealing that they are the asshole while telling a story that they imagine paints themselves in a positive light, like "and then I calmly said [completely batshit unreasonable thing] and they asked me to leave!"

a story of someone else behaving badly can be funny or sympathetic but someone crying to the internet for justice and then telling on themselves in the process is delicious, and much more believable, especially when they double down in the comments.
