A/N: Would die if they were jealous over me. Melt into a puddle. Gone.
When Viktor gets jealous he gets a bit more withdrawn than he usually is. Not that he was ever a social butterfly, however he was always more open and happy to talk when it was with you. So his behavior is odd, he even seems to get quieter whenever you walk into the room. Like he's trying to remove himself from you with silence.
"I am not avoiding you. Look, there has been a lot to do for the past week, I'm sorry if you got a bad impression but I was simply busy. If you want more company, go ask Jayce, or Skye, I'm sure they will be more than happy to entertain you, darling."
Viktor is short with his answers, saying as little as possible to minimize the amount of time he spends talking to you. Not because he doesn't want to talk to you, he loves talking to you, but if he keeps talking there's a chance he might say something he's going to regret. And end up hurting you.
"There you go again with these ridiculous accusations. You won't leave it alone will you? So now it's my fault that your project is running late? I would have been happy to help but someone was too busy talking with... you know what, nevermind. You're right, we both have a lot to do, so let's just drop this conversation and focus on work."
If you keep getting in the way of his work, Viktor will eventually come to a breaking point. Him not being able to work is only adding to his emotions, and he's never been the best at dealing with them. While he doesn't exactly yell at you, it's very rare that he ever raises his voice there's a notable frustration in his words, and pain, fear that you'd leave.
"If I'm being so unreasonable then leave. Go. Have fun. I know it's not idea to be cooped up in the lab all the time. There are so many more things to do out there. if you... want to go with other people I suppose I can't stop you, nor can I stop my own jealousy. How am I being even more unreasonable? I know you wouldn't leave me without talking about it. Look... I do not... want you to leave, working is more fun with you. But am I truly all that you want? Me? This lab? Because you're all I want. All that I can think of."
When Jayce gets jealous he keeps invading your personal space when you're around the person or people he's jealous of. His behavior is nothing innapropriate or pushy. It's just his arm around your waist, just him bringing you that drink you wanted, just him bragging about you a bit too loud and saying how much he loves you.
"You really are great, babe. How in Runterra did I ever find a beauty like you huh? What's that bashfulness for now, I always praise you, and I'm never gonna stop. You're my girl right? I can be a proud boyfriend and talk you up every once in a while."
Physical affection a big deal to Jayce and a way he shows he cares but also a giveaway to his jealousy. He holds your hand longer, his eyes flicker between you and the one he's jealous off, his smile is a bit more nervous when he has to leave you alone. Then there are his kisses, not as gentle, not a little, quick peck on the edge of your lips but a real kiss, lips pressed against yours until you let him know you need air.
"Got a bit carried away there. Ah, sorry, I can't resist you sometimes. All the time. Do you expect me to when you wear lipstick like that? Makes your lips look like they're made to be kissed. By me specifically. I'd kiss you all night long, for the rest of our lives and never get tired of it."
Jayce keeps denying that he's jealous when you bring it up in a teasing way. Logically there's no reason to get jealous, everyone knows your relationship is doing great, in fact you're hardly ever fighting and even when you are it doesn't last too long. How does he turn that part of his brain off? How can he not get jealous when all those people look at you the way he looks at you?
"They're always looking at you. How can you not notice? It's so obvious. You don't notice because... you're only looking at me? That doesn't even make sense! Of course they're looking, you're breathtaking everywhere you go. I just hope that wherever you go, you'll always take me with you, because I want to be by your side forever."
Ekko often jokes about being jealous so you don't pick up on him actually being jealous. A little jealousy is fine but not when it's getting in the way of his missions and operations with his team. He'd been a bit distracted in the past, by one of the Firelights flying too close to you, so he pushed his way between you two.
"It was the formation! Which you would have remembered if you weren't too busy chatting. Come on, Firefly, get your head in this. Otherwise you're gonna make your leader jealous. Wouldn't want that right? What if... what if you get demoted for it? Hey! Ow! I wouldn't demote you, who would listen to all my plans?"
When you have free time together Ekko makes sure to spend as much time with you as possible. If you're together all the time there's less chance that someone else will swoop in and flirt with you. He would never describe his behavior as being clingy, all he wants is to spend free time with his girlfriend. That is perfectly normal behavior.
"What do you say we go out to get some food? We don't have to spend all our time here. Not like the tree is gonna burn down if we're away for a couple of hours right? Besides it's been a while since it was just you and me all alone. Miss being alone with you. Don't you miss it too?"
If the person he's jealous of ever puts you in danger in any way Ekko will go off on them. Harder than he scolded others in the past. He might let some of his jealousy show then, but he storms off, well flies off before you can talk to him. As much as he wants to be alone he also makes room for you on his hoverboard when you float down next to him.
"Shouldn't have went off on them like that. I know, you don't gotta say it, I'll say I'm sorry. Let cool off a bit. You'd think that if they were flirting with you that much they could have been looking out a bit better. I'm always looking out for you. Maybe a bit too much. Sorry if I've been weird about it lately. Would you forgive me if I took you on a romantic hoverboard ride?"
No one wants to piss off a big man like Vander by flirting with his wife. Everyone values their life and their bones too much. But... they stare at you. Quite openly actually. You see it, and you bet he sees it too. He sees everything that's happening at his bar and he won't stand for someone ogling his wife, even if he has to get aggressive about it.
"It's my damn bar, I've got the right to break the table with their heads when they're looking at ya like that. Tell ya what, a lot more people would avoid this place if I started beating up every asshole that looks at ya wrong. Only reason I don't is cause I don't want ya to be mad at me after."
He hasn't banned anyone from his bar in a very long time. Vander knows he tolerates a lot, this is Zaun, and some people don't have the best manners, that's not exactly their fault. But on the other hand if they start something with him then he will finish it. When he tells them to stop looking at you like you like you were one of Babette's workers and they get in his face he will pick them up and throw them out.
"Bastards had it coming. I tried to be nice, then they had to go and call ya names. Ain't no way in hell I'm gonna let anyone insult my wife. Not here, not on the streets, not anywhere. I went there and I wanted to talk to them, tell them to fuck the hell off, they were the ones who started getting violent. So I responded in kind."
Vander calls you over to the bar a bit more often if he sees a particular table is trying to monopolize you. He carries some of the drinks over, the food plates too, or he simply walks up behind you when one of the guys is getting flirty. Seeing his imposing, huge frame behind you, his muscles bulging, is enough to get most to back off you.
"See, darlin', I can talk things out just fine. When people are being smart about it that is. Might have to stop selling so much booze in this place, then they won't be so bold with ya. Ya are a pretty sight, I can't say otherwise. But ya are a pretty sight for me, not them, ain't that right? Mhm. I know, I'm all yer's too."
Silco never ever says he's jealous of anyone. He is the most powerful man in all of Zaun, everyone is scared of him and with good reason. As the Eye of Zaun he knows when people are looking, talking too, and might even try to touch you. Those people are often payed a not so nice visit by his men.
"I did hear about that gang, yes. It's very unfortunate that they don't know how to keep their noses where they don't belong. It's not that big of a loss on our end. There are a hundred people who can do their work, and better. All that matters is that they won't even have to think about not touching you again."
He rarely has to get his own hands dirty when he gets jealous. All it takes is him saying who the target or targets are and he makes them dissapear from Zaun. That doesn't always have to be deadly, but if they're really dumb it is. If Silco feels that you're in some kind of danger then he will keep you close by. He tries to distract you from seeing he's jealous.
"All I'm saying is that we could take a break from work. Sevika and Jinx can handle a week of it. And you and me can lock ourselves up in our home and not come out. The bedroom works perfectly fine too, if you'd rather spend our time in there. And what is it that I'm doing, darling? Jealous? You are an observant one. I wouldn't want you any other way."
The only time Silco will threaten someone in person is if that someone is bold enough to flirt with you in front of them. He can scare people within an inch of their life just by talking to them, he's not just a good businessman, and some people tend to forget that. He has Zaun in the palm of his hand, and everyone in it.
"He did not actually piss himself. Did he actually. Hm, I wasn't look at him anymore to be honest. He was spineless, surprising given he talked to you like he did. Guess he was thinking with his other head a bit too much for his own good. Why are you looking at me that way? Ah, I see. Looks like someone enjoyed watching me put a scumbag into his place a bit too much."
Since Finn isn't someone who would take anything lying down he will be damned before he sees someone coming onto his woman and not do anything about it. He might have a certain charm about him but that doesn't mean he's not ready to makes heads roll the moment when someone crosses any kind of line with you. Imaginary or otherwise.
"Hah, did you see that doll? As soon as I threw one punch he went down. All his buddies ran like rats. Left him all alone there. After all that tough talk and he couldn't even defend himself. Serves him right. He's lucky all I did was break his nose when he flirted with you. I wasn't even that far away."
Finn will make out with you in front of who ever he is jealous of just to prove a point to them. And while he has you moaning, has your head buried against his neck and your body running hot he will look at the other person and stick his tongue out at them, right before making a V with his fingers and putting his tongue between them. He's vulgar but it gets the point across very well.
"All these people looking at what's mine. Now, I can't have that right? I love that you're showing off your body, it's a great body, you know how much I love it. But sometimes I want to keep you away from prying eyes. And if I can't the least I can do is give them a show. Make them know I'm the only one who can touch you."
His jacket is a signature part of his outfit, but Finn will let you wear it. Hell, he will walk over and drape it over your shoulders while not even looking at whoever you're talking to. Sometimes they're not worth looking at when he can look at the pretty way you blush as you touch his hand that's lingering on your shoulder.
"Thought you looked a bit cold there. Keep this on all night. Later on I'll help you warm up my way, a much more fun way. Don't even worry about your perfume getting all into this, love having your scent all over me. And by tomorrow you're gonna be wearing all of my marks."
There are a lot of people in the Enforcers who tease Marcus about having such a pretty wife. He knows you're pretty, but he doesn't like that the department is noticing it so much as well. Not that there's any way for him to hide it, or that he wants you to hide it, that would be a real crime.
"I was not pouting. That is so childish. I was glaring at them. Well, they were the ones who stared first. You visit me at work, like that's such a big deal. We're married, honey, I pick you up from work too. Why is it such a big deal here? I think they're just trying to get a rise out of me."
Won't deny that he's feeling jealous or shy away from showing it. When Marcus notices any of his men flirting with you he makes them work extra hard that day, he gives them more paperwork, something that everyone hates there, or assigns them to the toughest jobs that he knows will take them days to complete. He can't help but chuckle when you visit again and they're too tired to flirt with you, they just say hello.
"What do you mean I'm picking on them? Of course not. You know how hard it is to deal with all these extra cases. Someone has to take on a few more. No, the fact that it's the same Enforcers who gave you flowers that one time has nothing to do with it. You think it does? And do you have evidence of this accusation?"
Marcus isn't shy about kissing you in front of the whole department. If that's what it takes to send them all a clear message to back off. It's always perfectly chaste kisses, but he does make sure that everyone hears him say he loves you when you leave. He smirks when eyes turn to him and he wishes them all a good rest of their day.
"Now you call me petty. All of these accusations and you still don't have any evidence. That's not a very good way to have a case. You've been keeping count have you? Oh. You... actually have been keeping count? I'm guilty? Fine, you got me, you got me. Maybe... that was a little petty of me, but I'm not sorry."
Every time Loris is jealous it's almost impossible for him to hide that fact. He's a big guy, nothing about him is easy to his, not even his emotions. And he's loud, so every time he huffs, mumbles something, or grunts you hear it. Your eyes meet and he looks away, his hand grasping yours and running his thumb over the back of your hand.
'They were staring at you a bit too much for my liking, pretty girl. If they were as tough as they pretend they were they should have held their ground more. Proves they were all bark and no bite. People like that really get on my nerves, and then they talk to my girl like she's single."
Loris invites you to have lunch with him quite often, even more often when he gets jealous of someone who works with him. Dealing with them in any other way would be unprofessional of him, and might get him in trouble. This way he gets to avoid that, avoid them, and spend a nice lunch date with you. No matter how you look at it he's the real winner here.
"Looks so good. But if you keep looking at me like that I might get hungry for something else besides the food. Just try shifting the blame on me when you know exactly how you're looking at me right now. I wouldn't risk it at work, but... if you showed up with a few hickeys on your neck it might get the rest of the department to stop flirting with you."
As much as he tries to make his jealousy go away it's not easy. Loris knows he should be an example for others, after all he had been an Enforcer for a long time, he can't just let his emotions get the better of him. Hard to keep those emotions down when they concern you. If nothing else works he will intimidate people. Easy enough for him. But he would rather that be a last resort.
"If he wasn't ready to throw fists and words at me then he shouldn't have thrown flirty words at you. He should be able to back himself up if he's gonna be saying stuff like that. All I did was pick him up and throw him outside. Hey, I might get in a bit of trouble for it, but at least he'll leave you alone from now on. I'd risk my badge for you if I have to, you know that."
Since he is the quiet type Steb shows his emotions and jealousy is one that he works hard to surpress. Every time he notices that someone is standing a little too close to you he walks over and looks at you, lovingly, then he looks at the other person with a glare, a deadly one. All the while he's standing shoulder to shoulder with you.
"Come now, angelfish, they weren't even worth your time. We both know they only had one thing in mind when they were talking to you. I could see it in their eyes. I don't appreciate that they looked at you like that. And I know you don't either. So I felt like I had to step in."
He is very physical with his jealousy. Steb lets his eyes and touches linger a few moments longer when he wants to make a point to someone. While he knows you don't hate it he also doesn't want to come off as too jealous or too possessive over you. You can take care of yourself and he loves that about you, he's watched you put people in their place often, but there are times where he can't hold himself back.
"I could feel your fingers interlocking with mine. You wanted me to stand close to you when they weren't leaving you alone. Would you have raised your voice if I hadn't walked over? It would be amusing to see it. But I think those kisses we shared also sent an equally powerful message. You didn't have to bit me though."
Steb nuzzles his face into the crook of your neck when he's feeling really, really jealous of someone. He makes it look less possessive than it is, pretending like he's overhearing something you have to say, and then pushing himself just a little bit closer. His cold lips make contact with your neck, sending shivers down your body before he brushes your lips with his thumb and leaves with a smirk.
"That ought to be enough. I could have done more but marking you in public might have been a step too far. We can enjoy things like that in private however. I enjoy being close to you in any context, and if it makes others realize you're not looking for anyone because you've already got a man then I enjoy it even more."

I come in peace! I donât wanna try to convince you to take commissions! But I am curious about why youâre so strongly against them, did you have a bad experience working on one? Anyway, love your stuff, your tarot designs go so hard
Thanks for the love!! The reason isn't a bad experience or some such, it's 19 years of being a professional artist and knowing the field!
TLDR: I'm a traditional pen and ink illustrator, so it's not financially viable or creatively fulfilling.
I'm always down to talk art business, so here's a brief breakdown wall of text:
On the financial side, commission designs are almost always done at a net loss/break even for the artist, and I'm no exception. They're alright for starting out, or if you're looking to incorporate them into your marketing (IE: doing a poster design for a band to gain exposure), but typically they're roughly half the cash-per-hour for any established artist VS making an original design, and creating a print run of it.
Example: while tons of folks would look at someone charging $1k USD for a commission and think that it would be crazy cash, once you break down the math, it's pretty bad. An average design for me takes on average 30-40 hours, and that's because I don't have to communicate with anyone else. I'm just drawin' my idea. Assuming this is a dream client who has the mind-meld with me, wire transfers the $1k straight into my bank account the second it's done, that's roughly $25/hr. Once again - this looks *great*, that's around $50k/yr from drawing custom stuff! But that's not how it works. First of all, most folks would lose their *minds* at paying $1k for a commission - over the years I graphed it out, and back when I was a less-established artist, most folks would start with a budget of $100, have their limits pushed at $300, and outright refuse $500. You have to sift through all of those folks in order to get that reasonable commission. That includes folks who aren't willing to commit to a commission, don't want to say no to the price, but will still take up your time. Roughly, for me at least, 10 hours a week of it. You'll also have to run collections on roughly 20% of your customers - they may pay the deposit, but you'll have to chase them for the final payment. Even if you take the payment *in advance* you'll end up having to chase them down/get ghosted. So, realistically: you end up taking the $500, for *at least* 50 hours of work. On average, it clocked in closer to 65-70. $7.14 an hour. That's less than a third living wage and less than minimum wage. You cannot grow an art practice while actively starving. It's easier to make a design, sell it/license it/etc. to make more cash without losing your mind.
That said - After 2020, I reached a point in my career that when I take on custom work, it's typically from a larger brand with a larger scope and larger budget, ranging anywhere from $5k-$30k. That said - these businesses are typically ones that understand the industry and are far less of a headache to work with than individuals, and will give several months worth of work at a time at a living wage.
On the creative side, I enjoy making my own designs and work as opposed to other folks. I have a ton of drawings and projects I'd rather work on and share with folks of my own that are infinitely more fun than the 200th identical commission request (a biblically accurate angel that also is the grim reaper that is also Baldur's Gate 3 thirstraps/Dark Souls fan art/primarchs because Y'ALL AIN'T CREATIVE BUT MY ASTARION X SANGUINIUS SHIP CAME FIRST.) Also, most of the fun of my career is knowing as many folks as possible get to enjoy my art junk. I'd rather go through a few extra hoops and have thousands of folks see my stuff vs something only one other person gets to see.
If you made it this far, congrats, here is my favorite image I have saved in my camera roll:

Howdy to the weary Tumblrinas who continue to arrive at my blog in droves, for whatever reason. You are all welcome here. Here is some info about me:
Old;
Tired;
Queer;
What is gender we just don't know.
Historian (PhD in medieval history, MAs in history and international relations, and uh, others too).
My primary research interests are premodern queer history; medieval and modern historiography; the medieval and early modern world; modern Eastern Europe; Russia and Ukraine; American democracy and global futures.
Substantial published research and experience in academia, so I'm not totally talking out of my ass here.
This is, however, generally not a terribly high-quality blog. You will find lots of cats, art, photography, Tumblr jokes, random reblogs, stupid things that make me laugh, fandom/fanfic (when my muse cooperates, which has not been for a while due to the Horrors), and so forth.
Lots of other writing projects, such as original novels.
I am almost always open to receiving asks. If you have questions about history, politics, etc., I'll do my best to answer, within limits. My bandwidth can run out and it's a lot of work, but I'll try.
I try to make my political posts (for which I suspect many of you have recently arrived) fairly infrequent, except for moments such as now where the zeitgeist is especially stupid and I feel like saying something about it. Etc etc., posting on Tumblr is not activism, so I do try to be balanced.
I like to think I'm pretty chill, welcoming, and easy to get along with. If you're here to do the same, we'll be grand.
Welcome!

inmate!eddie munson x reader
cw: smut, pregnancy talks and all that come with it, mentions of nausea and vomiting, hospitalization, i think that's it?
wc: 19k
a/n: finally. it's finally here. this has been a two year in the making project for me and I am so happy to have this out. on the outside was my first ever fic and i can't believe i'm actually saying good bye to these characters. i hope you all enjoy.
âEddieee?â You call out for your fiance from where you stand in front of your refrigerator.
You were about to change out the calendar for the new year, head pounding as if you had celebrated the New Year drinking with everyone else despite your sobriety. Eddie had only had a few beers, but he woke up this morning feeling fresh as a daisy in comparison to how sick you felt.Â
At first you were worried that maybe you had caught the flu. You hadnât been feeling the best for a couple days, but chalked it up to how hard you had been working right before winter break to get all your students' grades in on time for the end of the semester. Youâd also volunteered to chaperone the winter formal where, unfortunately, one of the students spiked the punch. Thankfully Eddie had been your chaperone date and handled the situation for you while you got sick in the bathroom hoping that you werenât going to relapse after 18 months of sobriety.
But, now that youâre looking at the calendar all marked through, including the ones with a red dot for your expected period days and little pink hearts on the subsequent fertile days, you realize that those days came and passed without notice.Â
âWhatâs up, sweetheart?â Eddie asks as he pulls the new Iron Maiden hoodie you got him for the holiday over his head, curls bouncing as they are freed. Bear follows right behind him, coming up to you expectantly as he sees his box of treats sitting on top of the fridge.
âBabe, did I have a period this month?â
His head cocks to the side as he looks at you, eyes squinting and tongue poking out as he thinks about all the crazy shit that has happened this last month. With your crazy schedule and his extra hours at work, the two of you had barely had time to spend together, making it up to each other once your break had finally hit. But as he wracks his brain, he doesnât recall you asking him to bring you home any sweets or crying any more than usual.
âUm, not that I can remember,â he says with a shake of his head. He watches as your eyes widen, a toothy smile spreading across your face before you cover it with your hands. It takes him a moment to figure out what has you all giddy, but when it hits him heâs flying to you, almost tripping over Bear as he wraps you up in a hug to spin you around. âHoly shit, please tell me youâre telling me what I think youâre telling me,â he says for lack of better words, brain short circuiting with excitement, placing you back down on your feet.Â
âI mean, I canât make any promises until I take a test,â you say, trying to keep your voice steady, not wanting to get your hopes up after having your heart broken so many times before.
âCan you take a test now?â Eddie asks with a childish excitement.Â
âI think so,â you say flipping between the calendar pages, now crushed from Eddie's embrace. Upon further inspection, you realize youâve actually not had a period since October. It makes your head reel back, but you keep that information to yourself just in case. âLet-let me go take one,â you say shakily, nerves starting to get to you as you swiftly walk to the bathroom. The door barely closes before youâre digging under the sink for a test, cursing when the box you had under the sink comes up empty. âShit,â you curse, throwing the box into the bathroom trash can with force.
âAre you okay?â you hear from the other side of the door, followed by a whine from your dog. You startle the both of them with the force you use to swing the door open.Â
âI took the last one already,â you say with frustration, âIâm all out!â
âWell, come on, lets go get your shoes on,â Eddie brushes your frustration to the side, grabbing your hand and leading you out to the couch. He grabs your boots for you, unlacing them so he can put them on your feet. You canât even stay mad at your own shortcoming when heâs treating you so well.
âEddie, I can put my own shoes on,â you say with a chuckle. His big brown eyes look up at you with faux offense, still grabbing your foot and slipping it into the boot.Â
âI donât think so, princess,â he says with a playful sass that youâve grown fond of, because it really only comes out when heâs in a giddy mood like this. âI canât have you doing anything that may make the baby uncomfortable, like bending over or lifting a finger.â
Your breath hitches at his words. The baby. The one that may or may not be making a home inside of you right now. Eddieâs baby, with you.Â
Bile threatens to travel higher as you look at how heâs beaming in front of you. Eddieâs never known the heartbreak that youâve known when it comes to these things; wanting something so bad and yet your body doesnât comply. Heâs been so patient and understanding since youâve started trying. Everything that you wish you had all those years when you were with Henry, which only made you want to give him a baby more. Anyone so kind, caring, and self sacrificing as Eddie deserved everything heâs ever wanted and more.Â
Every month that youâve sat silently sobbing as you stare at the one lonely line while he snores into his pillow none the wiser has been another twist of the guilt covered knife in your gut. He doesnât ask about it, even if he sees the wrapper sticking out between the tissues you used to clean your tears. But he tends to you with acts of kindness and service, his love language with you.Â
The same love language he displayed as he put on your shoes. Same as when he went out to start the car for you, opening the door and fastening your seatbelt, making sure itâs not too snug across your lap. He let you grab your tests, meeting you at the front of the store with a bundle of flowers hidden poorly behind his back. He makes you walk in front of him so he can âsurprise youâ when you get to the car.Â
Eddie practically jumps out of the car to help you out as you arrive back to your house. Bear jumps between the two of you as you two run back to the bathroom, letting out loud giggles and squeals as Eddie pretends to chase you into the bathroom. You close the door on him, catching your breath and wiping tears from your eyes as he bangs on the door for you to let him in. Bear barks at him and Eddie laughs calling him a traitor. When you hear them walk away, presumably so Eddie can let Bear out, you pull the box of tests out of the bag.Â
Taking a deep breath, your hands start to shake as you set everything up, reading over the instructions regardless of how many tests youâve taken. You didnât want to mess this up. Not this one. Every time someone told you that you would just know when you were pregnant, you thought you knew what they meant, only to be met with the negative test. This time felt different, though. Every tick of the clock was another butterfly in your stomach. And with the closing seconds, you felt your breathing pick up, chest tightening with anticipation. You stand up, hand hovering over the wrapper of the test. Counting one, two, three, before pulling the wrapper away.
Eddie sits on the edge of the bed, petting Bear on autopilot. He wasnât sure how long these tests normally take, but after 10 minutes he was starting to get nervous. What if you were pregnant? Itâs a good thing you found a house with a lot of space. He wondered what color you would want him to paint the nursery. Would you want to wait to find out what youâre having or would you want to find out as soon as possible? He would want to know right away, but would wait if you wanted him to. Is your car safe for a baby? Heâll just have to pick up some extra hours to get you a new one. Oh, god, would you want a minivan like Nancy and JonathanâŚthough, it does come in handy if you have multiple kids. Would you want more kids after this?Â
Bearâs ears perk up under Eddieâs touch as the door to the bathroom clicks, the door opening much more gracefully compared to before. Heâs on his feet immediately, slightly shuffling as he waits for you to come out. Any thoughts he had before the door opened are immediately evacuated from his mind as he sees the vacant look on your face, the tears flowing freely down your cheeks being the only hint of emotion he can gauge from you.Â
His legs move on their own, pulling you into him as your knees buckle. He holds you up as the sobs shake your whole body in his grasp. Everything is automatic for him as your wails echo on the bathroom walls. Lowering you to the edge of the tub, he starts the shower, letting the water warm up as he undresses you, and then himself. He climbs into the tub, pulling you in with him so that the water hits the both of you as you continue to cry.
âEddie!â Your voice is frantic as you call his name from the kitchen. You hear him running down the hall, a loud thump and a curse towards Bear as the two of them round the corner into the kitchen.Â
When you answered the phone, you assumed it was going to be Dustin telling you that he and his new girlfriend, Maggie, would be leaving soon for your double date that he and Eddie worked really hard to find reservations on Valentineâs day for. Instead, you were met with the urgent voice of Wayneâs boss, Bill, who informed you that Wayne had passed out on the line again.
Eddie folded where he stood, spiraling into old memories from close to a decade ago. Bear laid next to where he kneeled while you got the quick details from Bill before hanging up. Quickly, you lead Eddie to the couch so you could lace his converse, pull his Iron Maiden hoodie over his head, and get him out the door and buckled into the passenger seat.Â
About halfway to the hospital he finally breaks down, almost scaring you off the road when he cursed loudly, slamming his fist against the window. You let him get it out, offering your hand for him to take when he was ready, which he grabs almost immediately. Pulling your hand against his lips, he kisses your knuckles between sobs, eyes fixed out the side window.Â
As you pull into Hawkins General, you let Eddie out at the door so he can get inside as fast as possible. Soon after you park, you make your way up to the room that you were told Wayne was in. You were expecting to walk in and find Wayne still unconscious with Eddie a mess by his side.Â
Instead, you could hear the two of them bickering from the hallway. The sound was bittersweet, a smile on your face as you walk in and see a very exasperated Eddie pacing and a disgruntled Wayne sitting cross-armed in the hospital bed like a petulant child. You noticed the oxygen tubes in his nose, and he looked generally worse off than he did when you saw him two weeks ago for Sunday dinner.
âWhy donât you ever listen to me!â Eddie exclaims, not noticing that youâve walked in the room yet.
âWhat did he not listen to this time?â You say jokingly as you walk to the other side of Wayneâs bed, leaning in to give him a hug that he returns with an old man grunt.
âNot just me,â Edde starts, âWe both told him to go get that cough looked at and he never did. Well guess what? His stubborn ass has fucking pneumonia!â
âWayne,â you look at him with concern. His eyes remain focused on the foot of the bed, ignoring that heâd been caught. âYouâve had that cough since Christmas. And I remember you promising me that youâd go and get checked out.âÂ
The old man lets out a sigh that turns into a cough. You place a hand on his back and rub up and down, eliciting an eye roll from Eddie as he watches you baby his uncle.
âListen, Iâve been meaning to go, but I just havenât had the time.â
âOh, you have to be joking. You couldnât find time between your shows to pick up the phone and call the doctor?â
âEddie,â you give him a pointed look.Â
âYou canât be--â
Eddieâs words are cut off by the doctor pulling open the curtain to Wayneâs room. The balding, older man greets you all, confirming some information with Wayne before going over some more of his test results.Â
âEverything else came back fairly normal. Your blood pressure was a little high, but thatâs to be expected. Just make sure you keep up on your blood pressure medication. Donât want to have a stroke and a heart attack within a year, right?âÂ
The doctor is the only one laughing at his joke. Eddieâs eyes snap to Wayne, who grumbles âshitâ under his breath. But Eddie keeps his mouth shut, letting the doctor finish and leave before finally speaking.
âSo, when the hell did you have another heart attack, Wayne?â
âEddie,â Wayne rolls his head, pinching the bridge of his nose.
âNo,â Eddie says, waving his hands in front of him, âI know that I donât live with you anymore, but I think itâs only fair that you tell me if you have another fucking heart attack!â
âAfter what you did last time, you really think Iâd tell you?â
âDamn it, Wayne! Donât hold that shit above my head!â
âOkay, okay,â you move around the bed to stand between the two of them. âThatâs enough, you two. Wayne, I get why you might be discouraged to tell Eddie that you had another heart attack, but you have to understand that things are different now. Shit, even Iâm hurt that you didnât say anything.â He looks up at you with a wounded expression.
âAnd Eddie,â you place your hands gently on either cheek before tightening your grip, âYou need to stop yelling before you get us kicked out.â His expression drops to annoyance, grabbing your wrists lightly and pulling your hands away. âWayne only wants whatâs best for you, just as you want whatâs best for him. SoâŚwhy donât we talk about what weâve discussed before.â
His eyes meet yours, mood shifting between you as he nods his head, reaching out to take your hand in his. When you turn around, Wayne is eyeing you both suspiciously, letting out another cough.
âWayne,â Eddie starts, âWhen we got the house, the two of us sat down and talked about what we would do if you had another heart attack. Or if anything major happened to you again. And, um, we decided that we would want you to move in with us if--â
âNo.â
âWayne--â
âNope.â
âJust hear us out,â you plead. He looks at you out of the corner of his eye. âPlease?â
â...Fine,â he says with a huff.Â
Eddie smiles slyly at you, thankful that he has you around to be on his side.
âUncle Wayne,â you start, hitting him in that soft spot when you call him uncle, âWe would really like for you to move in with us. Not to take away any of your freedom or anything. Actually, youâd be more freeâŚbecause we also want you to retire from the plant.âÂ
Wayneâs brow raises at your suggestion.Â
âEddie and I make enough money between us that you wouldnât need to work unless you wanted to. Youâd have all the free time to fish and hunt and watch your trash TV. Which, may I remind you, we have that big TV in the living room now. Plus, Bear would love to have someone at home with him all day.â
He grunts again. Bear loves Wayne, but Wayne is steadfast in his dislike for Bear, even though youâve caught him giving him people food and the occasional scratch behind the ear.
âYou sure yâall want me to move in? Won't get to have all your alone time together anymore,â he asks, seeking confirmation of your proposal.Â
âOh, donât you worry about that, pops,â Eddie says with a smile, âWeâll figure that out ourselves.â
The next month weeks flew by for you and Eddie. Youâd been busy prepping your sophomores for the upcoming state testing that takes place the week before Spring Break as well as running yard sales during the most uncharacteristically warm winter that Indiana was giving you to get rid of any of Wayneâs extra stuff. There was also the babysitting for Chrissy and Jason youâd been doing while they remodel their kitchen. And that was just your schedule, as Eddie had a slew of his own obligations on his end with work and prepping the house for Wayne to move in.
The two of you found it almost impossible to have any time together. Almost being the key word here, because Eddie could find time to bed you like it was his job. The week before Wayne finally made his big move, the two of you were on each other like rabbits at any given moment.Â
Now Wayne was fully moved in. He opted to rent the trailer out for cheap to a single mom who was looking around the park for something that she could afford for her and her son. He finished his last week at the plant, his boss and coworkers throwing him a surprise retirement party at the pool hall they like to frequent. Eddie and you decided to get a hold of his longtime friend down in Florida and sent him away for a week to have a buddies trip and to âget some more vitamin D in your system after working the night shift for so longâ according to Eddie.
Eddie may or may not have purposely planned Wayneâs trip during the same time that youâd be off for spring break, but wouldnât admit that to you. He just wanted to get you all to himself so bad, eating his words to Wayne about having alone time together. The only thing making him feel a little less crazy about the whole thing is your little remarks about how it would be even worse if it was a baby you were bringing home, and that at least the two of you are still getting a full night's sleep. So, he sucked it up until the day finally came that he was to take Wayne to the airport.
He quietly gave your sleeping form a peck on the cheek that morning before the two of them left, not wanting to wake you since you loved to sleep in on your days off. Youâd been feeling sick again, similar to how you felt right before the winter break a few months back. Eddie was worried that they were putting too much responsibility on you by having you teach two grades at the same time, but you assured him that you could handle it, that once you were off for the summer that youâd feel better.Â
You woke up around 11 am with a headache so bad it made you sick to your stomach. Youâd been having them off and on for about a week, barely able to stand the fluorescent lights of your classroom or the smell of the coffee pot in the break room. At least your sophomore students spent most of the morning testing, and by the end of the week you were playing a movie for all of your classes as an excuse to keep the lights off.Â
After puking up bile for 20 minutes, your stomach gave you a break so that you could make yourself look presentable enough for the doctorâs office. Eddie made you promise him that if you werenât better by today that you would go and get checked out. So you shove some buttered toast into your mouth and cross your fingers in hopes that youâll make it to the doctor without having to pull over and spill your guts.
Thankfully, the urgent care in town wasnât busy and you were taken back to a room fairly quickly. The nurse asked you a slew of questions in a monotone voice as your mouth watered from the wave of nausea that hit you again. When you jumped up suddenly to wretch in the small trash can on the floor, you heard her say something about a pregnancy test in a passive manner.Â
âPregnancy test?â You ask between heaving breaths.Â
âYes, dear,â she says nonchalantly as she continues to write on her stack of papers. A different feeling filled your stomach then, coating it with nerves that seemed to distract you long enough to get you off the floor.Â
Ever since the let down from New Years, you and Eddie hadnât talked much about kids other than some off hand comments here and there. It wasnât that you didnât want to keep trying, but the two of you decided to go with the flow and let things happen if they happen.Â
At least thatâs what you told anyone who asked.Â
In your head youâve been beating yourself up all over again, just like you did for so many years, which is probably only making you more sick. You almost tell the nurse not to even bother with the test, but she seemed like she wasnât having the best day so you just let her take your blood and be on her merry way.Â
When the doctor finally comes in, he gives you a quick look over and tells you to take some benadryl for your symptoms. It left you feeling annoyed, wishing you had just stayed home and done that yourself instead of wasting your time coming in.
As you leave he tells you heâll call you later in the day with your test results and any other instructions that he seems necessary. Itâs not exactly what you want to hear, but you didnât protest as you signed some consent forms at check out, just wanting to get back to your bed.
When you woke up a little while later, you had to admit that you did feel much better than in the morning. Maybe you were just getting to an age where your allergies were getting more sensitive.
As you amble into the kitchen, the flashing light from your answering machine catches your eye. You press play as you open the door to let Bear out, listening to the machine play as you start to pull out everything to make a late lunch before Eddie gets home from his half day at work.

Bear scratching at the door pulled you from your trance as you played back the message over and over again. You didnât want to walk away, afraid that if you left the machine that the message would somehow disappear. Or that if you played the message again the words would change. Or that you would wake up and realize that youâre having a benadryl induced dream while youâre still asleep in your bed. But the feeling of Bearâs fur brushing against your leg throttles you into reality.Â
You are awake right now.
And for the first time in your life youâve been pregnant for more than 6 weeks.Â
With haste, you pick up the phone line and begin to dial the first person who you know can help you.
Keeping secrets from Eddie was a challenge. His intuition when it came to you was almost scary. At times it felt like he knew you better than you knew yourself. Which, honestly, he might. But, it doesnât help when he wants to be with you every waking second of the day. Something that you want, too, but every time you look at him you have to duck your head or avert your gaze to keep yourself from blurting out the news to him.Â
Itâs also been incredibly hard to deny all of his advances.
Heâs not pressured you to do anything with him, never has, but you can tell heâs letting your rejections get to him in a self doubting way. Even when you did give him head hoping it would be enough, his pouty lip almost got you when you told him not to return the favor.
You do feel for him. The two of you had been planning to have quite the week with Wayne being out of the house. But even if you could have sex with him, not wanting to risk anything with how rough he can get at times, you honestly werenât in the mood anyway. Benadryl was the only thing helping with your nausea and headaches so you were constantly drowsy. And now you were getting terrible acid reflux on top of it, going through tums like candy.
When you told Eddie that you made an appointment with your primary doctor for Friday morning, he insisted that he take you in case there was anything he could do to help. You told him not to worry about it, keeping from him that the appointment was actually with your OB. You felt guilty when the ultrasound tech handed you the grainy pictures of your little baby because you know that Eddie would have wanted to be with you for this moment, but it would all be worth it tonight as long as everything went to plan.
When you and Eddie pulled into the closed high school later that day, you were greeted by the now familiar, smiling faces of your fianceâs long time friends. It wasnât often that all of them could get together like this between work, school, and their own families. But even with all of their big ages, the atmosphere as they all embraced each other was of childlike giddiness. You were included in the rounds of hugs and pats on the back as you had been accepted so openly by everyone over the course of yours and Eddieâs relationship. The tightest hug was from Eddieâs best friend, Jeff, the two of you share a knowing look with one another as you part.
Once everyone files inside, they begin to work together to set the old theatre room set up like they had back in the day. It was funny to watch them move around each other out of muscle memory, with a few more grunts and groans than they likely let out all those years ago.Â
And as they start to play, the energy in the room becomes electrifying. There isnât a single person sitting by their second hour in, voices talking over each other as the room is divided over combat choices. Even if you only had a basic understanding of what was happening, you were very much entertained where you sat next to Eddie at the end of the table.Â
It was a sight to see Eddie in his element up close. The passion he has for this game was on another level. Thereâs no way that it was anything less than cathartic for him to be in a state of power like this, playing every part as if he was performing for an audience, using his whole body and voice to play each character as if he was truly in the fantasy world he created.
It made you tear up a bit, having to discreetly wipe your eyes to hide the emotions so as not to make him worry or pull him out of his game. But the images in your head of him playing pretend in the backyard with your child has a lump sitting in your throat. The two of them with pillow cases as capes and sticks as swords slaying dragons (Bear) while you watch them from the kitchen window.Â
You end up having to excuse yourself to the restroom, needing a moment to collect yourself in your newly hormonal state. You barely make it into the hallway before the water works start, bee-lining for the closest restroom so you can let it out. Anyone passing by would probably think you were crying over some devastating news with the way you were blubbering and wailing.Â
You do your best to clean yourself up, but you know Eddie will be able to tell youâve been crying. So instead of going straight to the drama room, you decide to go to your classroom and work on some assignments for your classes on Monday.Â
After a while, a knock on your door startles you, head whipping to see your man standing at the doorway to your classroom with a concerned look on his face.
âHey, is everything okay?â He asks as he takes a few steps to stand by you at your desk. âWere we boring you with our nerdy game?â
âNo, not at all!â You stand from your desk with a shake of your head. âI just wasnât feeling well and needed a little quiet, thatâs all.â You give him a reassuring smile, taking his hand in yours. He raises it to his lips and kisses the knuckles, taking a moment to admire your ring before letting your hands fall, still clasped between the two of you.Â
âWeâre taking a break right now,â he says with a suggestive tone you know all too well. Thereâs a mischievous look in his eyes as he glances up at the clock on the wall. âNeed to be back in five minutes,â he leans into you, dipping his head to speak low in your ear, âThink thatâs enough time for me to get you on your desk like last time?â
You feel the heat flush to your cheeks at the mentions of your previous inappropriate endeavors in this classroom. For a brief moment you consider his proposition, but ultimately you pull away with a sympathetic look.
âAs fun as that sounds, you and I both know 5 minutes isnât enough time for you,â you poke his chest and he gives you a shit eating grin, âAnd I would be mortified if any of your friends walked in on us because you took too long to come back to your game.â
âIt might be too long for me,â he draws out the last word as he runs his hands up and down your sides, âbut I think I could take care of you if youâve got room for me under that desk.âÂ
His brows move suggestively as he waits for your response, which is just a playful roll of the eye and a kiss on the cheek. âThank you, Eds, but Iâm okay.â
âWell, alright,â he sighs heavily, his tone laced with faux disappointment, âI guess Iâll just starve.â You throw your head back with laughter at his dramatics, him joining you with a fit of giggles of his own.Â
You decided to return to the game with him, everyone getting swept up once again in the game's energy that Eddie puts out into the room. The enjoyment is clear with how engaged everyone is, jumping up and down or yelling out like a group of your students rather than a room full of adults.Â
Erica and Dustin get into it over a decision in game, and you get to witness Eddieâs potential Dad Mode as he defuses the situation with no one getting their feelings hurt. You canât help it, but for the rest of the game you subconsciously note little things that he does that may be a preview for how heâs going to handle parenthood with you. And when the group wins against whatever big monster Eddie had them fighting against, you can feel the ache in your cheeks from all the smiling youâve done while observing them.
âAlright, alright, letâs get this shit cleaned up,â he says as they start to tease him. He gives you a look that you can only interpret as âI totally let them winâ before he starts putting away his things.Â
âHey, look what I found,â Jeff suddenly speaks up from across the room. Heâs holding up a box that you know has some of their club's shirts in them for the new members. You feel your heart drop into your ass.Â
Shit, itâs happening.Â
âLooks like theyâre still using your old design, Eddie.â Jeff says as he plops the box down on the table. You feel your heart pounding in your chest as you focus on not passing out.
âGuess you canât fix perfection,â Eddie quips back, which elicits a few groans in response.
âDo you have a shirt?â
Your eyes flit to Will where heâs moved to stand next to you. You look at him for a moment before shaking your head, still unable to open your mouth.
âOh, good idea, kid,â Eddie says as he places a hand on your shoulder. âYou sat through a whole game, so that makes you an honorary member.â
You look over to Jeff, who gives you a subtle nod to signal that everything was good to go. Itâs not exactly what the two of you had discussed, but this seemed a little more natural for the situation.
As you rise from your chair, youâre able to let out a small âokayâ before walking to stand next to Jeff. You take a sharp inhale when you see it, the small bundle of material folded at the top of the other shirts.Â
All eyes are on you as you reach down into the box. You pretend to look through the pile before grabbing what you really want, pulling it out of the box and holding it up with both hands. Itâs the first time youâre seeing it yourself, the small onesie version of the Hellfire shirt that Eddie made almost 15 years ago, black quarter sleeves and all. Itâs exactly what you imagined, and youâre so, so thankful that Jeff was able to bring your vision to life.
âWhat do you think about this one, Eds?âÂ
The words roll off your tongue without you thinking, your mouth moving on its own as itâs tired of waiting for your brain to catch up. Flipping the onesie around for the table to see, your eyes find Eddieâs. You watch in real time as the emotions come and go from his features; ignorant joy, confusion, and realization.
âNo way!â You hear Dustin shout, too focused on Eddie to pay him any attention though.
âDude holy shit!â
âHell yeah man! Itâs about time!â
âI call dibs on babysitting!â
âAre you serious?â His voice cracks, a loud sniffle escaping as his body starts to shake. Fat tears roll down his reddening cheeks that he tries to wipe with his sleeve. âIs this real?â
You nod, your own tears coming back once again. âTen weeks,â you say as you exhale, doing your best to hold it together.
Eddie moves quickly to be by your side, taking your face in his hands and crashing his lips into yours. Collective oohs and awes swirl around you at the display of affection between you. When he pulls away he uses the collar of his shirt to wipe the tears from his eyes, letting out an airy chuckle.Â
You hold the onesie out for him to take, and he holds it in his hands with such delicacy, as if it's the baby itself.Â
âWhen did you find out?â He asks with a sniffle, not taking his eyes off the little article of clothing.
âOn Monday, after my appointment.â
âYouâve known since Monday?â He almost seems upset, but thereâs no way he could be mad at you right now. âWell, I guess that explains a lot.â
âIâm sorry, Eds. Trust me, it was really hard not to say anything. But, I feel like it finally paid off. All thanks to Jeff.â
You turn to gesture to him, and Jeff takes a small bow. âHappy to do my part for my future niece and or nephew. Just gotta let me know if I need to make another one in case itâs twins.â
âTwins?!â Eddie looks at you with wide eyes and an even wider smile.
âItâs not twins. Here,â you walk over to your purse and pull the strip of pictures from your purse. âSee for yourself.â
Eddie takes the picture from you and examines them. Excited laughter takes over him. âHoly shit, Iâm gonna be dad!â The gang surrounds him, congratulating the both of you.
âWhat if he sees it and doesnât get it?â
âBabe, the sign literally says âWelcome home Grandpaâ. I know heâs old but Iâm sure heâll catch on pretty quickly.
Eddie and you stand at the end of the gate in the Indianapolis airport waiting for Wayne to make his way down the tunnel. The two of you thought it would be fun to surprise him about his promotion when you pick him up, making a day out of it to find him a new mug to surprise him with as well. Eddie holds the gift bag in one hand while you hold the sign, both of you skimming the crowd of people for the balding Munson in the mix.
âThere he is!â Eddie nudges you, pointing into the crowd, âHold it up so he can see!â
You raise the sign above your head as Eddie waves to get Wayneâs attention. Even from where youâre standing you can see the old man smile, then quint to read your sign. Heâs almost to you before the look on his face changes.
âWhat the--What the hell did yâall do while I was gone?â Wayne drops his bags and wraps his arms around the two of you.
âTechnically it was before you left,â Eddie laughs, returning his uncles embrace.
âIs that why yâall sent me away then? Do I gotta move back out to make room in the house now?â
âNo, of course not,â you laugh, handing him the sign to look at.Â
âWeâre not about to kick out Hawkinâs next great babysitter,â Eddie says as he puts a hand on Wayneâs shoulder. The older man huffs out a laugh, smile wide as he runs his fingers over the word grandpa.Â
âSo thatâs the real reason you wanted me to move in,â he says, looking at the two of you again. âI thought I was supposed to be retired?â
âWell, I hope your time off was enough because weâll need you on duty in about 9 months.â Wayne shakes his head. Eddie hands Wayne the gift bag and he opens it to find the mug inside.Â
âI love my Grandpa,â Wayne reads from the mug, a hand going to his eyes as he wipes away tears. âShit you guys. Iâm so happy for ya.â Tears start to well up in your own eyes and you pull Wayne in for a side hug.Â
The three of you make your way home, discussing your future with the baby the whole way. Talks of all the diapers youâll need to get, who will get up in the middle of the night to feed and change diapers, names and all the other fun parts that come with being a parent.
âSo we gotta paint soon,â Wayne says from the passenger seat. âDo yâall have a colour picked out?âÂ
âSince we won't know the gender for a while,â you say from the back seat, âwe talked about painting the babyâs room a light green for now. We can always paint it again later down the road.âÂ
âThat sounds nice,â Wayne says with a nod. âWe can pick some up this weekend and Iâll paint while the two of you are at work. Itâs warm enough out that I can open the window so the smell wonât get to ya.â
âYou sure you wanna do that by yourself?â Eddie asks, turning into the driveway.Â
âSure, gives me a break from the couch. I know the two of you are gonna be busy so might as well make myself useful.â
âWe would really appreciate that, Uncle Wayne,â you say, putting a hand on his shoulder. He turns back to look at you, resting his hand on yours.Â
âWhatâs wrong?â Robin says from her spot next to you at the bathroom sink. The two of you, plus Steve and Eddie, had decided to take a trip to the mall today. This was your third trip to the restroom since youâd been there and you could tell Robin was getting suspicious.Â
âIf you have a UTI or something you definitely need to go to the doctor, you know?â
âIâm fine, Robin.â You dry your hands, tossing the paper towel in the trash. âI just had a lot of coffee this morning,â you lie.Â
The truth was that you were planning on surprising her and Steve today with a pit stop in the baby clothes store that Missy and Nancy had gone to when you went shopping with them a few months ago. It was a newer store and you knew that it would be fun little way to tell them your news.Â
âYou have to lay off that stuff,â Robin voices her concern. âIâm pretty sure I heard it makes your boobs shrink.â
âI donât think so Bobbie.â
The two of you reconvene back with Steve and Eddie who were waiting for you on a bench. Eddie looked like a real dad with sitting there with the shopping bags in his hands. You took a moment to admire how long his hair was starting to get before they noticed you.Â
âReady for our last stop?â Eddie says, suddenly standing up. Heâs had a nervous air about him this whole trip, and you donât know why. Steve and Robin are going to be over the moon when you tell them, but you suppose itâs just because heâs excited.Â
âYeah, where did you want to go?â Steve asks, looking between you two.Â
âOh, just a shop over by where we parked.âÂ
The four of you make your way toward the other side of the mall. Eddie and you both stop at in front of the Baby Gap, Robin and Steve pausing when they realize youâve stopped.Â
âYou good?â Steve asks.Â
âYep, we just need to pop in here.â
Steve and Robin look up at the store and share a look.Â
âDoes Nancy need stuff?â Robin asks quizzically.Â
âNope, we just need to get some things for ourselves,â you say, staring at them hoping it will click.Â
âWhat do you guys need at Baby Gap?â
âDuh, what else do they sell here, Steve?â Robin nudges him. And then she looks at you with wide eyes. âOh my god, you guys are buying baby clothes?â
Eddie and you both nod excitedly. Robin squeals, bouncing up and down. Steve still looks confused.Â
âWhy are we excited?â
âTheyâre pregnant, dingus!â
Now it was Steveâs turn to look at you with saucers for eyes.Â
âNuh-uh,â he says with a grin.Â
âYes, sir,â Eddie nods, putting an arm around you.Â
Steve grabs Robins arm and shakes it, still looking at the two of you. âNo way!â He says excitedly. âAbout damn time!â
âHow far along are you? Do you know the gender yet?â Robin asks in quick succession.Â
âIâm about 12 weeks. We won't know the gender for a little while longer, but Wayne already picked out the nursery room color for us.â
âOh I bet he was over the moon to find out,â Robin coos.Â
âHe was. Heâs very excited to be a grandpa.â
âGrandpa Wayne, oh my god.â
âDo you have any names picked out?â Steve asks.Â
âWe donât have any names yet,â you say, looking up at Eddie, âBut weâre open to ideas.â
âWell, Steve is a good nameâOw!â
âTheyâre not naming their baby after you Steve.â
âIt was just a suggestion!â
âBesides, Robin is more gender neutral anyway.â
âEddie.â
Brown eyes dart from the TV and over to where you stand in the doorway. Eddie shifts and stands, walking over to you with urgency.Â
âWhat's wrong, sweetheart?â He asks with concern.Â
You sniffle, looking up at him through your lashes. âWe donât have any picklesâŚâÂ
Eddie sighs in relief, glad that your tone wasnât due to something serious.Â
âWe donât,â he confirms, looking down at you. âBut Iâm guessing we need to remedy that?âÂ
You nod, and Eddie canât help but giggle. The stage of weird cravings had started a week ago and youâd been asking him to buy you the most random foods. Bananas and hot sauce, sour cream that you ate from the tub, and now pickles.Â
âCan you get strawberry ice cream, too?â You ask sheepishly.Â
âOf course,â he assures you. âAnything for my babies.â
Your emotions get to you with that, and you canât help but cry. Eddie would be concerned if this hadnât become a semi-regular occurrence for you now. He simply pulls you into a hug and kisses the top of your head.Â
Bear makes his way over to you, looking up as the two of you embrace. Youâre both sure he knows something is up, because heâs been by you constantly since you found out you were pregnant. It's almost like heâs standing guard to make sure no one gets near you.Â
âIâm okay, Bear,â you say, dropping down to squat at his level. He pants as you give him ear scritches, enjoying every second of it. Eddie takes the opportunity to grab his shoes and put them on.Â
âAnything else you might want me to grab while Iâm out?â
âMore milk? And probably more cereal for you and Wayne. I think I ate the last of it earlier.â
âIâll get you your own box.â
Bear rested at your feet as you graded papers at the dining room table. It was getting close to the end of the school year and you didnât want to let being pregnant put you behind.Â
Most of your kids were passing, which was a relief to you. It was a hard year but teaching two grades was an experience that you were glad you got to have. Thankfully the school was able to find a replacement teacher for your sophomore class next year, thanks to a recommendation by yours truly.Â
âItâll be so nice for you to have someone like Will teaching with you,â Eddie says as he finishes making you lunch.Â
âIt's going to be a big change from middle school, though,â you say as you set down your grading marker. âIt was for me at least.â
âWillâs smart, he can manage. Plus heâll have you for support.âÂ
âOnly for the first few months. Then Iâll be gone for most of the year.â
You had an appointment a few weeks back to find out you were due around Halloween. The irony of it all was that you probably got pregnant right after you had taken the test back in January. Life works in mysterious ways you thought.Â
âTrue, but he can always call here if he needs something. Plus, Iâm sure the other teachers are going to love him.â
âOh they will. I just hope they donât treat him too much like a kid.âÂ
Eddie puts a plate in front of you and takes a seat. âHe is still young,â he says before he takes a bite of his sandwich. âBuy that will probably make him more relatable to the kids, ya know?â
You nod, taking a bite of your own food. The nausea has started to subside now that you were in your second trimester, which made it easier to eat foods that you werenât necessarily craving. Still, you took your time eating so not to trigger anything.Â
âAre you excited for tonight?â Eddie asks, taking a chip from your plate and popping it in his mouth.Â
âYes, I canât wait to see their faces.â
Eddie and you finally decided to start telling more people about your pregnancy now that you were in the second trimester. Chrissy had been begging you for a double date for weeks now and youâd been putting her off so that you wouldnât spill the beans too soon. So tonight was going to be the big reveal.Â
Chrissy had become a really good friend ever since she sold you the house. She was a busy mom and successful realtor but she always made time to call and check in on you. It honestly was hard not to tell her when youâve told your other friends, but you wanted to be sure youâd make it to the second trimester before telling too many people per the doctor's suggestion.Â
So when you and Eddie arrived at the Golden Lamb, you could already feel the butterflies in your stomach. Thankfully you were too soon to be showing so they wouldn't know right away.Â
âI honestly thought it would be hard with a fifth, but Chrissy has been nothing but a superstar about it all,â Jason says as you all share an appetizer. You were barely talking because the food was so good you just kept eating it.Â
âAwe, so have you!â Chrissy says, beaming at the praise. âJasonâs been doing great making sure the boys are on their best behavior while Iâve been recovering.â
âHow is that? The recovery, that is.â
You look up at Eddie when he asks the question.Â
âItâs hard, Iâm not going to lie. But when youâve done it before it definitely helps to know what to expect. You guys will know one day.â Chrissy winks at you.Â
âYeah, about that..â
âYouâre pregnant.â
You freeze at her words. Chrissy brings her hands to her mouth and gasps.
âH-how did you know?â You ask bewildered.Â
âI knew it! I could just tell when I saw you!âÂ
âWoah, congratulations, man!â Jason reaches his hand across the table for Eddie to shake, which he does.Â
âOh I canât wait! Our kids are going to be best little friends!â
That made you happy to hear. Chrissyâs youngest and even Nancyâs youngest baby werenât going to be too much older than yours. He or she already has friends waiting for them, and that made you feel a sense of joy in your heart.
âDo you know the gender yet?â Jason asks.Â
âWe find out in a couple weeks,â Eddie says proudly.Â
âAre you hoping for anything or just feeling blessed regardless?â
Truth is youâd gone back and forth or whether or not you wanted a boy or girl. Youâd be happy with either, but the idea of a little girl to dress up would be fun. You know Eddie wants a boy, but has also expressed that heâs just happy to have a baby with you.Â
âIâm just happy to be this far,â you finally say. âAlthough I think a girl would be fun.â You add that last part in without looking at Eddie.Â
âOh a little girl!â Chrissy squeals. âI always wanted a daughter but Iâm happy with my little team of boys. But if you have a girl I will be living vicariously through you.âÂ
âHey, we can always try again.â Jason says, giving Chrissy a little nudge. She rolls her eyes at him. You know she would be happy to have more kids, though.Â
âI personally want a boy,â Eddie announces, looking at you.Â
âOh, man, boys are so fun. Our house is like a madhouse, but itâs totally worth it.â
âWhich reminds me,â Chrissy chimes in, âJacob wants to learn guitar. I was wondering if we paid you if you wouldnât mind giving him lessons?â
Eddie is taken aback at this request. A Carver kid wants to play guitar?Â
âY-yeah, sure. Thatâs your second oldest, right?Â
You were pleasantly surprised that Eddie remembered, even after all the times youâve drilled the names and ages of their kids into his head.Â
âYep! Little Jacob wants to be a rockstar someday,â Jason adds.Â
âHell yeah, thatâs awesome,â Eddie says, nodding his head. âJust let me know when works for you guys.â
âWe were thinking about dropping him off after church on Sundays? Maybe he can spend an hour or so with you?â
âThat would be perfect,â you say, nodding to Eddie.Â
âObviously not when you have the baby, we can wait until after that if you want. â
âNo, it should be fine,â you say, âBring him over whenever. It will probably be easier to start now before the baby anyway.â
âThanks, man, I really appreciate it,â Jason nods to Eddie. âBy the way, have you ever heard of a band called Stryper?â
âEddie! Quick!â
Eddie looks over at you as you come darting to him. He watches as you take his free hand and spin him around, toothbrush still in his mouth as he was getting ready for work.
âWha es et?â He asks through a mouth full of toothpaste.
Wordlessly, you take his hand and place it on the side of your bump. The both of you are still as you wait for something to happen. After a few beats, you start to feel disappointed.
âI swear I felt them kicking,â you say dejectedly, letting go of Eddieâs hand.
âWhat, really?â He asks after spitting the toothpaste out of his mouth.
âTry again and maybe press down some?â
âWill that hurt it?â
âNo, I donât think so. Maybe agitate them a bit.â
Eddie puts his hand back on your barely there bump and presses down on it. Itâs still for a few moments, and nothing happens. You let out a frustrated huff and cross your arms defeated.Â
âI really did feel them.â
âI believe you, sweetheart. Thatâs so exciting,â Eddie says rubbing your arms with his thumbs,
Then you feel it again.
You gasp, grabbing his hand again and moving it to the spot where you felt the movement. Eddieâs hand rested there and you waited another moment. Nothing.
âDamn it--âÂ
Then it happened again. Eddieâs jaw dropped as he felt it that time, too stunned to speak.
âWooooah,â he finally says, looking up at you.
âI know, right? Isnât it crazy?â
Eddie puts both hands on your stomach and rubs it, kneeling down to be eye level with it.
âHey there,â he says, eyes focused on your belly, âI donât know if you can hear me but Iâm your dad and I think itâs really cool that you have such strong legs. Maybe youâll be a drummer like your Uncle Garreth. That would be super bad ass. Especially if youâre a girl. Girl drummers are awesome.âÂ
âWhat if theyâre a boy?â You ask him. âThen youâll be a kick ass boy drummer for all I care. I really want you to play guitar, though. Gonna teach you that as soon as you can hold your head up. Babe, should be make him a battle jacket?â
âIf we make him one now he wonât fit in it for very long. We should probably wait until heâs older.â
âDamn, oh well.â Eddie sighs as he straightens up. His arms wrap around you and pull you in close, letting his chin rest on the top of your head.
âYou have no fucking clue how excited I am.â
âI think I can take a guess.â
The room is quiet, dimly lit with the soft glow of the low lights and the monitor that sits next to your seat. Your feet wiggle back and forth, a nervous movement as you sit and wait for the ultrasound technician to enter the room. Eddie was sitting beside you, his own leg bouncing in anticipation.
Today you would find out the gender of your baby. The excitement was enough to keep the two of you up late into the night talking about what it will be like to have a baby boy or girl running around the house. All the baby proofing you would have to do was enough to make you feel like your house might actually be a deathtrap, even when Eddie assured you it wasnât that bad.
A gentle knock on the door had both of your heads turning to it. âCome in,â you say, and the door opens moments later. The same technician from your last appointment walks in and youâre relieved to see a familiar face.
âGood morning,â she says as she closes the door behind her. âAre we ready to find out what youâre having?â
You and Eddie nod, a fresh batch of goosebumps rising on your skin. The technician moves around the room and does whatever she needs to do to get the monitor ready.
âGo ahead and lay back, and lift your shirt just over your belly,â she says as she pulls a bottle from the counter. As you lean back, she shakes it upside down a bit and squirts some on her finger, wiping it off on the paper towel sitting on the counter.
âNow, this may be little cold at first, but it will warm up as I move the wand, okay?â
âOkay,â you say, a nervous smile on your face.Â
âIt doesnât hurt, does it?â Eddie asks, grabbing your hand.
âNo, not at all. Iâm just going to put a little of this jelly on her stomach and press this wand to it so we can see the baby. You ready?â
You nod and the cold jell hits your stomach with a sound from the bottle.
âNow here comes the wandâŚâ She places the ultrasound wand on your stomach with a light pressure. The screen of the ultrasound machine starts to blur as she moves the jelly around on your stomach. Once she slows down, youâre able to get a more clear picture of the baby growing inside your belly.Â
It looked weird. Like a baby, but not at the same time. But when you saw itâs little arms moving it made a lump form in your throat.
âAwe, theyâre waving at you,â the technician says, holding the wand still.
âWhere?â Eddie asks, a clear look of confusion on his face. âI canât read any of this.â
âSee this right here, thatâs the head,â the technician points to the large orb on the screen. âThis is itâs spine, and this is itâs legs. Right here are itâs little arms.â
âWoah,â Eddie says with a smile as wide as Texas. âHi little guy.â
âYouâre such a dork.â
âWhat, I want to be polite!â
âEverything is looking good and they seem to be measuring on time, but I canât say for certain until the doctor checks everything out. Iâm going to take a few pictures and then we can check the gender, okay?â
You nod and let her do her thing. She moves the wand and pushes a few buttons on the keyboard, over and over, until she finally moves the wand to where it looks like the babyâs butt would be. A hot wave crashes over you as you realize that this is it.
âOkay, baby is not cross legged so I can see perfectly. Are you ready to know?â
Eddie turns to look at you for your approval. He nods, and you take a deep breath.
âYes, weâre ready.â
âHow was the appointment?â Wayne says as the two of you walk in the door, Bear relaxing over his feet.
âIt went really well. We got some new pictures to show you.â Eddie walks over to Wayne and hands him the small print out of pictures the technician gave you to bring home. Wayne grabs his glasses and puts them on, still holding the small prints close to his face.
âWow, this really looks like a baby now, huh?â He says, looking over to you. Your hand rubs your bump, now starting to show a bit. Youâre happy it didnât come in until after your school year ended, lest the students ask you a million questions.
âWhat else do you see?â Eddie asks the older man. Wayne looks over the pictures again, eyeing them up and down.
âWhatâs this last picture?â
âThat is your grandsonâs little Munson.â
Wayne looks up at Eddie, then over to you. As it all starts to make sense to him, he suddenly jumps up from his chair and jumps around.
ââTâs a lil boy?! Hot dog, I got myself a new fishinâ buddy?!â His arms wrap around Eddie in a surprise hug as he jumps up and down more, rocking Eddie in the process.
âWe had a feeling that youâd say that, so we went and got this.â You pull a bag from behind your back and present it to him, a very obvious smaller version of a fishing pole sticking out of it. It was made for kids, but youâre sure it would work when the baby is big enough.Â
âI canât believe this,â Wayne says wiping tears from his eyes. âI would have been this happy if it was a girl, too. But it just feels so--â
âReal?â Eddie says.
âYeah. I just canât--I mean, damn itâs really happening.â
âEddie started crying when she told us,â you say as you lean into him.
âHow could I not? Iâm gonna have a mini me running around the house!â
âDonât I know it. Iâm putting all this work in for 9 months and I know heâs going to come out looking exactly like you.â
âHopefully heâs more tame than Eddie was,â Wayne adds, shaking his head. âEddie usedâaa bounce off the walls when he was a toddler.â
âOh, great, canât wait for that,â you say with a smile. You truly didnât care what the baby was going to be like. You hoped he was just like Eddie, in every way.
âUgh, itâs so hot,â you say as you fan yourself. Even with the shade of your front porch you were still sweating in the unrelenting July heat. It was the hottest summer Hawkins had felt in a while and of course you just had to be almost 30 weeks pregnant right now.
âWe can go inside,â Eddie says from the chair next to you, flipping through a mechanics magazine.
âNo, the fresh air will be good for the baby.â
âNot if youâre frying in the process. Come on, we can wait for them inside.â
As if right on que, the familiar red beater truck pulled up behind yours in the driveway.Â
âHey, the party is here!â Grant shouted from the driver side window.
âLets get this shit built!â Garreth yells as he pops out of the passenger side, Jeff following after him.
âAre you just gonna stand there or are you gonna help?â Jeff says as Garreth and Grant start to unload the back of the truck of the boxes that were in the bed.
âI was expecting you all to do the heavy lifting. We are pregnant afterall.â Eddie says as he places his lemonade down, standing up from the chair. Jeff pshes him, slapping a hand on his back before the two of them start moving boxes inside.
The boys had all agreed to help put together furniture as long as they could drink and listen to rock music the whole time, neither of which you minded but you appreciated them asking. Youâd been craving some wine during your pregnancy but had been good enough to not indulge yourself, especially after youâd done so well with your sobriety.
âYou boys needa hand?â Wayne asks from the front door.
âNaw, we got it pepaw,â Garreth calls, holding the other and of a large box that him and Jeff are carefully maneuvering between the cars in the driveway. You held the door open for them as they entered into the house, stopping to kick their shoes off per your house rule of no shoes in the babyâs room.
Once the boys got everything inside, they immediately plugged in the stereo system and began to fill your house with Pearl Jamâs âTenâ album. Eddie Vedderâs vocals made good background noise as you cleaned up the house. Well to the best of your ability.
Your bump had grown big enough that it was starting to become more difficult to do certain things, like bending over and squatting. But you could still handle most of the chores with out much of Eddieâs help. It was working with chemical cleaners that worried you the most, so you looked into some more natural cleaning remedies and hoped that they were doing what they were supposed to do.
âAnyone ready for lunch? Iâll order some pizzas if you want--Wow, look at you guys go!â
The room was already starting to come together as the furniture was being built. It looked like Eddie and Jeff had the crib almost put together as Grant and Garreth tackled the dresser. You thought this was going to be an all day endeavor but they may get it all done in a few hours.
âYou guys are some pretty good handymen!â
âThanks, babe,â Eddie says as he holds a couple pieces together for Jeff to screw in. âOnce we get these big pieces put together weâll work on getting the shelves up.Â
âWere you saying something about pizza?â Garreth asks with nails between his lips.
âYeah, Iâll go ahead and order some. Any special requests?â
âCan you get some cheesy bread, too?â Grant asks.
âAbsolutely. Well, Iâll leave you boys to it.â
âLove you, babe!â
You say a quick love you back before waddling down the hall to the kitchen.
After a quick pizza break and some trash TV with Wayne, the boys all erupted into hoots and hollers from the babyâs room.
âWhatâs all the commotion?â You ask walking into the room.
âI think weâre done!â
You look around the room and really take it in. It looks pretty much complete, sans some decorations and the things you plan to get from your baby shower. It hits you that youâre going to have a baby in this room with you in just a few short months.
âAwe, babe, donât cry.â Eddie walks up to you and wraps his arms around you, swaying you back and forth.
âIt just looks so nice. Thank you guys so much,â you say through sniffles.
âOf course, momma,â Jeff says, patting your shoulder.
âAnything for the newest member of Hellfire,â Grant adds.
âAnd the future frontman of Corroded Coffin 2.0,â Garreth says.
Eddie backs away from you and you take the opportunity to wipe away the tears from your eyes. It was so nice knowing that your baby was already so loved.
âOh, yes! Just like that!â You moan out into your bedroom, your cries bouncing off of the walls and straight into Eddieâs ears.
He has you just how he likes you; on your back and with your legs spread wide for him. Either of your legs in his grasp to hold up so you donât have to. Your pretty little head is resting on the pillow while he does all the work of making you squirm under him. Your hands hold your large stomach as his hips crash into yours with each thrust.Â
Heâs doing his damndest not to be rough, but he canât help that you look so pretty when he fucks you hard. The way you talk so dirty when no oneâs around gets him going in a way he canât even describe other than feral. Each call of his name by you sounds like music to his ears that he wants to play on repeat.
âFuck, baby, look so good like that,â Eddie groans, watching your swollen tits bounce. âMy beautiful girl, all big and round for me.â
âYes, just for you, Eddie,â you say, your hands flying to the pillow to grip it as he picks up his pace. Eddie takes your leg and rests it on his shoulder, guiding his free hand to your stomach to hold it in place while he fucks you into the mattress. Something about you being pregnant with his child was turning him on to no end. Just the thought of his baby being inside of you drove him crazy.
âOh, shit Iâm gonna--â
âDo it, baby. Cum for me.â Eddie brought his thumb to your sensitive clit and started rubbing sloppy circles in it. Everything with you was so much more sensitive since youâd gotten pregnant, and Eddie loved to take advantage of that whenever he could.
Eddie felt it in your body as you came, the way you clenched around him, legs shaking, eyes rolling into the back of your head. He wanted to take a picture to keep forever. âFuck, Iâm gonna cum,â Eddie says suddenly, his thrusts becoming sloppy as he reached his peak. You watch as he comes undone inside of you, filling you up with his spend.Â
âOh my god,â Eddie stutters out, head thrown back as he recovers from his orgasm. âThat was insane.â
âComeâer,â you reach your hands out for him. He obliges, sliding out of you slowly and plopping down next to you in the bed. He wraps you up in his arms and holds you close, pressing a kiss to your temple.
âAre you okay?â He asks, hand landing on your stomach.
âMhmm,â you hum, catching your breath.
âI still canât believe it. That weâre going to be parents.â
You place your hand on top of Eddieâs and rub your thumb into the back of it. Itâs quiet for a moment, but then the two of you feel the baby moving inside of you and laugh.
âGuess he didnât like all that movement,â you say, watching the way your stomach is pressed from the baby inside you.
âSorry, bub,â Eddie says with a laugh, âCanât help that your mom is hot.â
âHey, thank you for coming!â You wrap your arms around Claudia and Dustin as they exit your house from the back door.Â
Today is the day of your baby shower and the backyard was already full of guests as they all pile in. Eddie was manning the grill, your brother and his wife talking him up as he cooked the dogs and burgers for everyone. Elanor and your nephews are running around with Bear while Nancy and Robin catch up. Steve and Mike were talking about cars the last you checked in on them. Max, Jane, Lucas and Will are helping set up some last minute decorations. And the band boys were chatting while they set the fire pit up for sâmores later.
âThank you for inviting us. Here, I made these myself for the little one. Thereâs something in there for you, too.â
âAwe, thank you, Claudia. Thatâs so sweet.âÂ
âIâll take that,â Wayne says as he takes the bag from Mrs. Henderson.Â
âI helped pick out the colors, by the way,â Dustin says before he leaves to go join the boys at the fire pit.
âHow are you feeling, dear?â Claudia asks.
âI feel surprisingly great. Other than my feet swelling in this heat, I donât think I can complain. Well, besides the nightly gymnastics routine this one seems to want to do whenever I go to bed.â
Claudia laughs, âYes, Dustin was the same way. Itâs like they know when youâre trying to rest.â
âIt really does!â
âMrs. Henderson!â Steve calls out to her and Claudia excuses herself.
Wayne makes his way over to you. âGot an awfully full table of gifts over there,â he says.
âI know, Iâm in shock. I knew people would get us stuff, but I didnât think it would be so much. Hopefully we have room for everything.â
âWeâll make it fit, I promise ya that,â Wayne says with a chuckle.Â
He looks at you for a moment before leaning in.Â
âCan I tell ya a secret?â
You whip your head around, shocked to hear that Wayne wants to gossip with you.
âUh, duh. Lay it on me.â
âOkay,â he starts, âSee that girl your brother brought with him. I think you said thatâs his wifeâs sister?â
âOh, Tenisha? Yeah she was one of my best friends growing up. Sheâs just really shy.â
âI can see that by the way sheâs been keeping to herself. But, Iâve been watching everyone here, right? Well I think sheâs been boring a hole into Harrington since he walked in the door.â
This revelation sparks your interest. Tenisha had a hard time branching out due to her introverted nature, so she didnât have many boyfriends growing up. For a while you thought maybe she didnât even like other people all that much.
But, this news was something you could work with.
âGood to know,â you say with coy smile, brain wracking with ways to introduce them.
The rest of the party showed up as time went on. Chrissy and Jason came with their kids, and you got to hold baby Jeremy while she talked your ear off. She even brought you a whole trunk load of old clothes from her boys that youâd be able to use for your baby.
Missy even showed up with her baby, little Henry junior. He looked a lot like Henry, so much that it was almost off putting to you, but you reminded yourself that this party was the celebrate your own baby with the man who loves you now.
âThis is a really nice house,â Erica says to Eddie as you help pass out food and refreshments.Â
âThanks, man. Weâve really put our all in making it our home these last few months.â
âIâm willing to bet that the missus did most of the decorating,â Jason chimes in.
âObviously,â you say with a sarcastic tone. âI think the place would be covered with band posters and guitars if Eddie was in charge.â
âHey, a few decorative guitars wouldnât be a bad thing,â Grants says in Eddieâs defence.
âThank you, Grant.â
âItâs going to feel even more like a home once the baby comes,â your brother says. âDonât you think, Nish?â
Tenisha looks up from her plate like a deer caught in headlights. You want to scold your brother for calling her out, but you know heâs doing it because you told him about her eyes for Steve.
âY-yes,â she says, voice small, and youâre proud that she was even able to get that much out. She stands still for a moment before suddenly beelining it for you.
âWhereâs your bathroom?â She whispers to you. Just as you look toward the house, you notice Steve is heading in that same direction.
âHey, Steve!â
He stops and looks around to where he heard his name being called, landing on you.
âCan you show Tenisha where the bathroom is?â
Tenishaâs eyes go wide, but you ignore it when Steve agrees and beckons her over. You watch as she wordlessly makes her way over to him.
âHi, Iâm Steve. I donât think weâve met,â he says as he follows behind her into the house.
You look around for Wayne to see if he saw your quick move and you found him already looking your way, giving you a thumbs up.
The rest of the party went off without a hitch. Games were played, all the gifts were opened, and you even got to have some cake that Eddie had custom made for the occasion. And, much to your delight, Steve essentially stuck by Tenishaâs side the rest of the night, talking to her about god knows what. She seemed not to mind though, a smile on her face the whole time.
You felt like you were about to burst. People had been chatting you up for over an hour at this point and you were starting to have to go every 30 minutes or so it seemed. When you finally had the chance to excuse yourself, you all but sprinted to the rest room.
Once you relieved yourself, you went to wipe, but thought you felt a strange texture when you did. You decided to check the toilet paper, only to be met with the sight of bright red blood.
Your heart sank at the sight. Getting up you checked your underwear and found nothing there, so it hadnât been bad enough to spread. But still, you were only 36 weeks at this point, still a whole month out from when the baby was supposed to come. This shouldnât be happening.
âEddie,â you say out of instinct. âEddie!â
You run out to the backyard and find your husband talking with his uncle by the fire. He looks over at you and waves, unable to see you clearly from where you were at the back door.
âEddie!â The urgency in your voice caught his attention and he immediately popped up from his chair and came trotting to you.
âWhatâs wrong, sweetheart?âÂ
âEddie, Iâm bleeding.â
âW-what? Thatâs not supposed to happen now is it?âÂ
You shook your head and Eddie immediately started to panic.
âUncle Wayne!â
Wayne jumped up from his chair and ran over to where you two were standing.
âWhatâs goinâ on?â
âSheâs bleeding.â
âBleedinâ! Well that doesnât sound right. You oughta go to the emergency room. Now. Iâll get everyone going.â
You both nod and Eddie takes you by the hand, grabbing his keys off the counter as you enter the house. He barely lets you grab your purse before heâs pulling you into the car and peeling out of the driveway.
Once you get to the hospital, they take you back right away and get you hooked up to a monitor to listen to your babyâs heart beat. There was a sigh of relief when it was strong enough that it could be easily found by the nurse helping you. They ran some tests on you and did a quick check to see if you were dilated at all.
âNothing yet,â the doctor says. âNot abnormal for you to not be dilated at this point. Have you had any contractions?â
âNo, not yet. Should I be?â You ask with concern.
âNot necessarily. Sometimes women experience what feel like contractions at this point, but youâll know the real thing when the time comes.â
âWhy would she be bleeding right now if the baby wasnât coming?â Eddie asks, hand clasped with yours.
âWell,â the doctor starts, âThere are several possibilities, but itâs hard to say for sure. Weâll probably keep you here for monitoring for a few days just to make sure we donât need to start the delivery process early.â
âStart it early? Will that hurt the baby?â You ask.
âNot at this point. We consider the baby developed enough at this point that delivery is a safe enough option for you. We would just give you a shot of steroids before hand to help with the development of the babyâs lungs before hand. But, for now, we think that you should get some rest.â
The doctor leaves the room and you and Eddie are left there to listen to the sound of your babyâs heart beating. Eddieâs grasp on your hand tightens, and for a moment you think that he might have started crying. You look up at him and are surprised to find that heâs actually laughing.
âWhy are you laughing right now?â
âBecause,â he raises his head to look at you, âOnly my kid would try and pull something like this the day of his party. I always used to ruin my birthday parties because I would get so excited to get gifts.â
That did make you laugh. Which apparently made your son mad because you felt him kicking you, leaving you to sigh in relief. At least he wasnât in any immediate danger. Though, you were not looking forward to staying in the hospital for a couple days.
âDo you think Iâll be out in time for Monday?â
Eddie looks at you in disbelief. âI donât think your students are going to mind a substitute for a couple days while youâre in here.â
âI know, I just donât want to leave them with a bunch of work to do. Iâve been slacking a bit these last couple weeks.â
âIâll grade the damn papers myself if it means youâll relax for a couple days,â
âOh, god, we wouldnât want that,â you laugh.
You got to go home on Tuesday. It felt cooler out compared to Saturday, so Eddie brought you a sweater to the hospital to keep you warm. The fabric was tight over your large stomach as you walked out into the late September air.
The bleeding eventually stopped on its own and the doctors decided it would be best to let you go home and finish out the rest of your pregnancy. Which you were relieved to hear because that bed was super uncomfortable.
âI just want to go home and take a nice long shower,â you say from the passenger seat. âThen maybe a good nap.â
âWhatever you need, princess. I know that was rough on you,â Eddie says with a hand in yours as he drives.
âIt was rough on you, too. I know you were mad they wouldnât let you stay.â
âThey better let me stay when the baby is born. Iâll stand outside the hospital all night if they donât.â
âThey will, Eddie. We already asked, remember?â
âI know. But what if they find out Iâm a felon and change their minds?â You can hear the concern in his voice.
âEddie, they donât care. Just donât do anything stupid and there wonât be a problem.â
Eddie scoffs, âYou think I would do something stupid?â
âOf course not,â you laugh, âIâm just saying is all.â
Eddie turns into the drive way and cuts the engine. He hops out from the driver side and runs around the car to open your door for you, lending you a hand to help you out of the car.
The two of you enter the house and you immediately head to your babyâs room. Itâs filled to the brim with all the gifts you received still needing to be put away from your shower. The need to nest kicks in and you enter the room.
âWoah, what are you doing?â Eddie says, watching you as you start to fold some of the baby clothes.
âItâs a mess in here,â you say, placing a blue nighty into the dresser drawer. âWe need to clean up.â
âWe can do that later.â Eddie wraps his arms around you from behind and you let out a whine.
âBut what if the baby comes tomorrow? Heâs going to think weâre slobs!â
Eddie turns you around to face him, holding you with a hand on each arm.
âLater, sweetheart. Letâs get you in the shower and down for a nap first.â
You let out a sigh but ultimately give in.
âArenât you due today?â Will suddenly says between bites of his salad. The two of you had a shared lunch and had been spending it together since the beginning of the school year.
âTechnically I was due Tuesday,â you say after a long chug of water, âBut he doesnât seem to be ready to come out yet.â
âHave you been feeling anything yet? Like the labor pains?â He asks.
âIâve had a few contractions but nothing too major. The doctor said itâs normal for babies not to come on their due dates, but Iâm ready for him to be out of me now.â
You rub your huge bump. It didnât seem possible that you were this pregnant. You hadnât seen your feet properly in weeks, but you certainly can feel them aching. The back pain was out of this world, and all you wanted to do was sit down. But at this paint sitting didnât seem to be much relief either.
âIâm sure you are. I canât even imagine what it must feel like.â
âIt feels like Iâm carrying a 30 pound boulder in my stomach is what it feels like,â you laugh.Â
But the laugh is cut short by a sharp pain in your lower stomach. Another contraction was hitting you today and this one took your breath away. You hiss, bending slightly as you try your best to work through it. But this one was lasting a lot longer than the others.
Will jumps up from his seat. âAre you okay?â He asks as he hovers over you, hand on your shoulder.
âYeah, just,â you blow out air from your mouth, âThis one just really hurts.â
âShit, is it time?â
âIâŚI donât know.â
You couldnât say no for sure with how this one was feeling. Was it time?
âDo you want me to call Eddie?â Will says before walking over to the phone.
âNo, no itâs starting to stop now,â you say, leaning back in your chair. âIâll keep an eye on the time and if it gets worse then Iâll call him.â
âMaybe you should go home, just in case,â Will says with concern.
âI think Iâll be okay.â
But you were not okay. After the third contraction, you decided to call Principal Higgins and let him know what was going on. He told you he would take over your class and that you should go home for the day.
âHawkinâs Auto Body, this is Sarah speaking.â
âHi Sarah, is Eddie available?â
âOh, hey! Yeah, let me go get him!â The receptionist put you on hold and you felt another contraction hit. They were starting to become close together, around 8 minutes apart.
âBabe?â You hear from the other side of the line.
âEddie, I think itâs time,â you say through gritted teeth.
âWhat? Really? Where are you?â His tone is frantic and you hear some crashing noises.
âIâm at work. Iâm having contractions.â You whine as the feeling grows stronger in your pelvis.
âOh my god, okay, Iâll be there as soon as I can. Weâll take your car, okay?â
âOkay, Iâll be waiting.â
After you hung up with Eddie, you braced the cold October air and made your way to your car. You turned it on and sat in the passenger seat while you waited.
Looking in the rear view mirror, you can see the car seat installed in the back seat for this exact occasion. Eddie was smart to put it back there in case the baby came earlier. Ever since your hospital trip, heâd been on top of everything when it came to the babyâs arrival. He helped you decorate, took you shopping for any last minute items you needed, and even prepared a hospital bag for you that sat in your trunk.
It didnât take long for Eddie you whip into the school parking lot. He found your car and made quick effort to find the nearest spot to park. After he killed the engine, he booked it to your car and hopped in the driver seat.
âAre you okay?â Was the first thing he asked before buckling his seatbelt.
âAt the moment, yeah. But the contractions are getting closer and closer together as time goes by. Iâm due for another any minute.â
âWell, letsâs get going then, momma,â he says, shifting into gear and pulling away.
Eddie got you to the hospital in record time. They wheeled you in, mid contraction as they took you immediately to a laboring room. Everything was a blur as they got you in a gown and prepped you to be checked. When the doctor came in, the first thing he did was check to see how dilated you were.
âYouâre already at 4 centimeters,â he said as he pulled his hand away. âIâm surprised you hadnât come in sooner.â
âShe was being stubborn,â Eddie said. He was upset that you had gone on having contractions for so long without calling him sooner.
âI was at work. I didnât know it was going to get this bad--ooooh!â Another contraction.
âWell good news is that once you get to 5 centimeters things tend to go faster, so you shouldnât be in labor for too much longer. Did you want to get an epidural?â
âGod, anything to help with these pains,â you moan as the contraction wracks through your body. It felt like all your muscles from the waist down were tightening all at once. You were starting to sweat from the pain.
âThat looks like fun,â Eddie says as he sips from his little cup of water.
You were bouncing on the exercise ball that the hospital provided for you to try and speed up the labor. The epidural kicked in and though your legs felt funny, the pain had subsided greatly. You still felt the contractions but they werenât nearly as debilitating as they had been all day.
âIt feels like a work out, but I think itâs helping.â
âIâm so excited,â Eddie says before walking over to you, both his hands out for you to take. You place your hands in his and do your best to stand, stepping closer to him until your belly touched his. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to your lips.
âI am, too. Insanely nervous, but excited.â
Suddenly you felt a sharp pain between your legs. The sound of water hitting the floor took you by surprise. You felt like you needed to sit down so you reached back for the bed and sat on the edge.Â
âShit, babe, I think your water broke!â Eddie ran to the door and yelled out for a nurse to come to your room.Â
Shit, was this really happening?
Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion. The nurses and doctor entered the room and it was clear that it was go time. They got you in position on the bed and you could feel something happening between your legs.Â
âI see the head!â One of the nurses shouted.Â
âPush, momma push!â
âOh my god.â
Eddie was shaking beside you. You could feel the trembling in his hand as he held yours. But you didnât have time to focus on him as you put all your effort into pushing.Â
You squeezed his hand tight as you did your best to push, feeling the pressure building as you do.Â
âYes, keep going! Heâs starting to come out!â
âYou got this, sweetheart,â you hear Eddie say shakily.Â
âOne more good push!â
You put all your strength into pushing. It was the hardest thing youâve ever done in your life. There was so much pressure building up and thenâ
The sound of cries.Â
You opened your eyes and he was there. The nurses held him as the little baby covered in goo and fluidsâŚwas crying.Â
âItâs a healthy baby boy!â
âHellooo!âÂ
The sound of Wayneâs voice echoed in the room. He took a step in and Eddie waved him inside.Â
âCome on in, Grandpa,â Eddie says from his seat next to you. Wayne mozies into the room, a vase full of flowers in hand.Â
âI brought these for the lovely new momma,â he says, setting them down on your bedside table.Â
âThank you, Uncle Wayne,â you say, admiring the flowers.Â
âIs that my little man over there?â He asks, moving closer to the bed.
You take the bundle in your arms and turn him to face Wayne. âOh my god,â Wayneâs hand comes to his mouth as he cracks the widest smile.
âDo you want to hold him?â You ask, lifting your son a bit towards him.
âCan I?â Wayne asks, stretching his arms out. You make the slow exchange and Wayne just absolutely lights up. âWow, I canât believe it.â
âI know, itâs crazy isnât it?â Eddie says, standing up to walk over to them.
âIâm sorry ta break it to ya, sweet girl, but this boy is all his daddy,â Wayne says with a chuckle.
âWait until you see his hair,â Eddie says, gently pulling the little cap off of his sons head to reveal small poodle like curls underneath.
âOh boy, weâre really gonna be in for it with you, ainât we?â Wayne asks your son. âYour daddyâs gonna get all the karma from how he was as a kid.â
âAll I know is heâs going to get away with murder when it comes to her.â Eddie says nodding to you.
âIs that so? That in love already, huh?â
You nod your head. It was true. As soon as the nurses laid him against your chest you felt that immediately wave of love come over you for your little one. He might as well have hung the moon and stars because he was perfect in your eyes. You werenât even mad he looked exactly like Eddie. Quite the opposite. Your head swirled with all the trouble that the two of them were going to get to. And they would get away with it by batting their big brown eyes at you.
âDid ya come up with a name for him yet?â
This question made you look to Eddie. Youâd been telling everyone that you werenât sure what name you were going to come up with, but the truth was that you had a name for the baby all along.
âAs a matter of fact, we did,â Eddie says walking over to the bed side bassinet. He pushed it over to Wayne, turning it so that the name card was visible to him.
Wayne stepped closer, leaning in to see the name without his glasses.
âWayneâŚWayne Lee Munson. WellâŚthat,â Wayneâs body shook with a sob, âthatâs my name.â
âAnd we thought it would be the perfect name for the next Munson.â
âEdâŚâ Wayne started to cry. He held your son close and wept. âLittle Wayne Munson. Has a nice ring to it.â
âWell look at that little man there. He looks jus like you, donât he?â Al Munsonâs voice rang through the other side of the phoneâs receiver. It wasnât how you wanted to meet your future father in law, but you knew this visit meant a lot to Eddie so you went along with it.Â
He told you his dad wasnât a violent man, but he sure looked like it. Eddie looked so much like him, down to the way they both hunched over a bit when they sit. It was almost scary to think about what Eddie could have become if he hadnât gotten out of prison when he did.
âIâm glad you guys came out,â Al says, âWas worried I wouldnât get to see âem til heâs ten.â
âWeâre glad to be able to make it. Iâm sure youâre excited to meet him.â
âAnd the misses, too. Eddieâs told me a lot about you in his letters.â
âHopefully all good things,â you say into the receiver thatâs between yours and Eddieâs head. Al laughs, and it sounds like a raspier version of Eddieâs.
âOh, yeah. Youâre gonna make a great Munson. Wish I could be there to see it.â
âI wish you could, too, dad.â
âWeâll make sure you get lots of pictures.â
âIâll be lookinâ forward to it,â Al says, leaning into the glass. âLemme get a better look atâem.â
Eddie moved the phone to his ear as you reposition, standing slightly so you can show off your baby. You watch as his lips move but canât hear what heâs saying.
âYeah, thatâs what everyone says. I feel bad for her because you know how I was as a kidâŚYep, Wayne said the same thing.â
Alâs hand touches the glass near where youâre son is. It makes you feel for him. A man stuck in a cage, just outside of reach of what he wants.
âOkay, old on,â Eddie says holding the phone out to you. âHe wants to talk to you.â
âOh, really? Okay.â You swap with Eddie, handing Wayne to him and taking the phone.
âHello?â
âHey there, darlinâ,â Wayne says. âJust wanted to ask you a few questions.â
You felt your stomach turn. Was he going to grill you on if you were good enough for his son?
âNow, I wonât say anything, and you can give me simple answers if you want. But I want you to answer truthfully.â
âYes, sir.â
âGood. Now, is my boy treating you right? Heâs not been hittinâ on you or anything?â
The line of questioning took you by total surprise.
âOh my god, no,â you say shaking your head. âEddie is the sweetest man Iâve ever met in my life.â
Al smiles the same as Eddie.
âThatâs what I wanted to hear. Now, heâs been pullinâ his weight around the house, too, right?â
âAbsolutely,â you assure him.
âGood, good. Been helpinâ with the little one?â
âYes, more than I ever could have asked for.â
Eddie was made for fatherhood. Even at his most tired, he still does whatever he can with Wayne. Changes him, helps bathe him, cleans up so you can feed him. He cooks and cleans. Any little thing you ask he does without a single complaint.
âWonderful. Eddieâs a tough one, so but Iâm glad to see he has a soft side to âem. If he ever gets outta line, you just go ahead and give me a call, got it? I got some people on the outside who will set him straight for ya.â
âI donât think Iâll need to, but Iâll keep that in mind,â you chuckle.Â
âAlright, darlinâ, go ahead and give me back to Ed.â
You hand the phone back over to Eddie and do another swap with Wayne.
âWhat the hell did you ask her, old man?â
Al laughs on the other side of the glass. You let the two of them talk it out for the rest of the visit. You werenât sure the next time you three would be able to make it out to see him, so you made sure to say your goodbyes before leaving.
The house is warm and filled with the smell of food cooking from the kitchen. As you do your best to prep, Eddie is sitting snugly on the couch holding baby Wayne in his arms. Theyâre watching A Charlie Brown Christmas on the tv; well, Eddie is narrating everything for Wayne. But Wayne seems to love listening to Eddie talk, starting up at him with those big brown eyes that you love so much.
âDonât look now, but I think weâre being watched,â Eddie says to Wayne, pointing at you.
âI canât help it, you guys are just so cute.â
Youâre about to check on the food again when you hear a knock at the door.
âCome in!â Eddie shouts from the couch.
The door opens and begins to fill with familiar faces. Dustin and Lucas enter first, bickering about god knows what, followed by Mike, Jane, Max and Will who look fed up at the former two.Â
âHey guys!â You say as you approach, offering to take coats as they come in. Eddie stands up from the couch and walks over to Dustin and Lucas.
âWhatever you guys are going on about can end now,â Eddie says as he hands the baby to Lucas, âand you can hold this one while I go take a piss.â
âIâll take that, thank you,â Max says as she slips between Dustin and Lucas, taking your son in her arms and walking away. âAwe arenât you just the cutest!â
âHey, he was handing him to me,â Lucas says with a scoff.
âYouâll have your turn later, Auntie Max needs her baby time now.â
Lucas pauses for a moment before leaning into Dustin.
âShe looks pretty cute with a baby, doesnât she?âÂ
Dustin elbows Lucas, âMake your own then, sheesh.â
âCan I see him?â Jane says as she walks up to Max, who shows him off to her.
âHe seriously is so cute.â Max says, lightly bouncing Wayne in her arms.
âThanks, I think so, too,â you chuckle.
Another knock at the door takes your attention away from the girls for a moment. You shout for them to come in and the door opens to reveal Steve and Robin with two handfuls of gifts.
âOh my god, let me take those,â you say rushing over to them. âWhat is all this stuff?â
âItâs for the baby, duh,â Robin says, handing you some of the stuff from her hands.
âAll of this is for Wayne?â
âNot all of it,â Steve says, making his way to your tree to set his gifts down. âThereâs more in the car.â
âYou guys are ridiculous,â you say, shaking your head.
âWoah, Santa came early,â Eddie says as he rounds the corner. He walks over to Robin to take the rest of the gifts and joins Steve by the tree.
âWe said we were going to spoil him,â Robin says with a shrug.
Suddenly something small runs into the house, past you and onto Mikeâs leg.
âWoah!âÂ
âUncwel Mikey!â Elanor squeals.
âIs this where the party is?â Jonathan says as he enters the house, followed by Nancy and baby Amelia.
âIt smells so good in here,â Nancy says as she gives you a side hug.
âThank you! You guys didnât have to bring anything,â you say, eyeing the tin of cookies that Jonathan was holding.
âIt was nothing. I was in a baking mood, so those arenât the actual cookies that are in there.â
âWell come on in and set them in the kitchen. I need to check on everything anyway.âÂ
Nancy and the baby follow you inside to the kitchen, Jonathan hot on her heels. âIâll be back for you,â she says when she passes Max holding baby Wayne.
As you enter the kitchen, the timer for the turkey goes off. You grab your oven mitts and pull it out of the oven, prepping the thermometer to check that itâs cooked all the way.
âWow, you made a whole turkey?â Nancy says impressed.
âI wanted there to be enough for everyoneâ you say, reading the temperature, âand it was cheaper than a ham. Got it on sale actually!â
âLooks good!â Jonathan says, setting the cookies on the table.
âHoly shit, Steve she made a turkey!â Robin yells from the kitchen doorway.
âI thought she didnât know how to cook?!â Steve shouts from the living room.
âIâve picked up a few things being a housewife, Steve!â You shout back at him.
âHows motherhood treating you?â Nancy asks, moving to stand next to you.
âHonestly,â you start, âitâs been a crazy ride.â You pause for a moment, thinking about all the sleepless nights and endless feedings. But you think about your sweet baby and the man who has been helping you make it all possible and sigh. âBut, I wouldnât trade it for anything.â
âI know what you mean,â she says bouncing Amelia on her hip. âItâll get harder when you have another, but it really is worth it.â
Another? You hadnât really thought about having another baby just yet. You were still in the throws of first time motherhood that you barely had time to think about anything else. But, who knows, maybe youâll have another. One day at a time.
You hear a commotion from the living room and assume the rest of the boys have arrived when you hear their collective voices.
âThereâs my man,â you hear Jeff say.
âGod, he looks just like you, Eddie,â Grant says, making you smile.
âYeah, I apologize to her for it every day,â Eddie says with a laugh.
Nancy and Robin help you finish everything up in the kitchen while the rest of the party is entertained by your son in the living room. They all take their turns holding him until he ultimately started crying and needed his momma.
âAlright, dinner is ready, everyone,â you say from the doorway. Walking over to Steve, who was currently holding Wayne, you extend your hands to take the crying baby.
âShh, itâs alright, mommy is here,â he says, gently bouncing Wayne in his arms.
âDamn, youâre a natural, Steve,â you say as you take Wayne from him.
âYou think so,â he says standing up from the couch. âIâve always wanted a big family.â
âOh, that reminds me,â you say with a sly smile, âHow are things going with Tenisha?â
âGreat!â He says, clapping his hands together excitedly. âThe long distance sucks, but Robin and I are going to drive out to see her for new years.â
âThat sounds like itâll be a good time!â You say and he nods. Wayne lets out another cry and youâre reminded that itâs time to feed him. âGo and get some food, I gotta feed the little one.â
You walk back into the bedroom and let Wayne nurse for a bit, calming him down instantly. A few minutes go by and you hear a knock on the door.
âIâm not decent,â you shout to the door.
âItâs just me,â you hear Eddie say as the door begins to open, him shuffling inside with a plate in his hand. âI brought you something to snack on while youâre in here.â It was more than just a snack. Eddie had made you a whole plate and brought it to you.
âAwe, you didnât have to do that.â
âActually, I did,â he says with a chuckle. âOr else there might not have been anything left for you by the time you were done.â
âSo everyone likes the food?â You ask with a bit of hope in your voice. Eddie nods, and you sigh with relief. âThank god.â
âItâs honestly really good,â Eddie says bringing a roll to your mouth. You take a bite and had to admit he was right.
âEddie,â you say in a wobbly tone, feeling tears starting to well in your eyes.
âYes, my love?â He says turning to look at you.
âThank you so much,â you say with a sniffle.
âThe roll was that good?â He asks with a laugh.
You shake your head, âNo, no, I meanâŚJust thank you. For everything. Iâve never felt so complete in my whole life and itâs all thanks to you.â
Eddie goes to open his mouth to say something, but closes it. He suddenly sits up from the bed, walking over to his nightstand and opening the drawer. He pulls out a piece of paper and looks it over before holding it to his chest.
Walking back, he plops back on the bed and clears his throat. âUm, this is something Iâve been working on for a while,â he says fidgeting with the paper. You look at it, then back to him. It was covered in his sloppy hand writing and you were instantly brought back to all the letters youâve shared between the two of you. The ones that brought you together.
âIt was originally going to be my wedding vows to you, but itâs gotten so long that I donât think anyone is going to want to sit and listen to me while I talk on and on. So I justâŚI guess Iâm ready to share it with you now.â
âOkay,â you say barely above a whisper, extremely intrigued as to what he has to say.
âAlright, here it goes,â Eddie says clearing his throat again.
âTo my future wife,
Itâs always going to be hard to put into words exactly how you make me feel. I could write poetry, could write you a song, could buy a plane and fly the words across the sky. But none of that will ever be enough. So Iâll do what I do best and write you this letter.
Not a day has gone by since we met that I donât think about you. Even when I was still locked up, the thought of you played on my mind a lot. To me, I felt an instant connection with you. It might not have been love at first, but I knew that you were going to mean something to me. With every passing letter that turned into phone calls, that turned into us meeting for the first time, I only realized that you were put into my life for a reason. And that reason has become clearer with every day that I get to spend waking up next to you and being blessed by a God I donât believe in with the grace of your smile.
Now that I have you in my life, I donât think I can ever imagine a life without you in it. I want to spend every possible moment with you that I can, even the bad ones. I canât wait until the day weâre old and grey and sitting in our rocking chairs on the front porch while we watch the sun go down. Because then Iâll know that I have lived a full, one by your side.
Now that weâre going to be parents, which I still canât believe, I want to make sure that Iâm there for you no matter what. We probably wonât get married until after the baby is born, but I hope you know that we donât have to do things the traditional way. Iâve never been normal, but I think you know that by now. So lets just do things how we want to from here on out.â
âThis last part I wrote recently,â he says, pointing at the paper, avoiding looking at you.
âWow, I really canât believe weâve earned the title of mom and dad already. Nothing could have prepared me for first time parenthood, but Iâm glad I have you by my side to go through it. Youâve been nothing short of amazing as a mom and I couldnât be more proud of you. I think Wayne has been the missing puzzle piece that we didnât even know we needed in our lives. He rounds out our family in such a positive way that I sometimes feel like Iâm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Thatâs how too good to be true my life with you feels. I donât know what the future holds, but no matter what happens, I know that you and I will be able to work it together as a team.Â
I guess I should wrap this up and give it to you before Wayne goes to college. Just know I love you so much and I always will. Never forget that, my love.â
Eddie turned to look at you, not even surprised to see the mess youâd become. Tears streaked your cheeks and you were holding in a sob that kept trying to escape.
âE-EddieâŚâ you say, leaning into him, finally letting it out with a little cry. âThat was so sweet. I donât even know what to say.â
Eddie kisses the crown of your head before resting his cheek against it.
âYou donât have to say anything. I already know how you feel. You make sure I know it every day. This is just my own way of saying thank you.â
You held your baby tight in your arms, suddenly overwhelmed at the life youâd been given. The man next to you loved you and you loved him. You were going to get married and spend the rest of your days together. As a family.
thank you all so much for reading!

There's no doubt in my mind you made Calgary all the better, even if it's a beautiful city on its own. It was just better for having you there with me, not to mention we kept each other warm despite all the cold! And we found plenty of fun things to do together, thankfully. You know I'll always attend your premieres with you, and of course cheer you on in your projects! I'm already so excited for seeing Fantastic Four now that there's a trailer, and I know you'll have done an incredible job in that. Though that aside, you looked so handsome in the trailer too - no wonder they chose you for Johnny Storm when you're already hot and it's entirely believable you can set a fire all on your own! I know you've got promo coming up, so I'm just happy I'm not working for the moment and can travel around with you for it all. I'm so happy you liked being in Florida with me, and happier that you got the chance to visit and meet my parents. Though sorry about all their questions and their asking so many. You're only the second person I've ever brought home, so I know they were a little curious, if anything. Though it's no surprise to me that they like you! I know what you mean when I already miss Florida's warmth myself, though just means we'll have to go on a vacation soon. I love that you want to match costumes for Halloween, and you know I'd be all for planning that! Maybe the big costumes this year will be the Fantastic Four though, so I hope you're ready for that. Well, I'll say you don't have to worry about losing me, because I'm here as long as you'd like me to be. But I know I'd be lost without you too, so that feeling is definitely mutual, love. In that case, you can have me in your arms as much as you'd like, just putting that out there. You want to take me somewhere special? Now I'm wondering what you have in mind, though it's likely I'd like any date you take me on. Well, I had to show you some of my hangouts while we were there in Tampa, including some places that play live music since the guys and I have had gigs there before! I'm happy we had another chance to dip into the hot springs before my filming ended, since I did have the best time there with you. I had a feeling, though it's mutual since I can't ever get enough of you. And well, since you didn't know what I was planning for your birthday at the time, you know I had a lot more than just the hot springs on my mind for a post-filming celebration. Plus having a hot tub handy and enjoying it with you certainly felt like a great vacation. I can't help it since every time I think about being all yours, it just makes me smile so much. I'm not even close to being sick of knitted items, especially since they're made with your own hands. At least we don't have to miss each other for a little while, right? I know, and neither of us wants to hurt Bach's feelings, so better we let him believe he's the best cuddler. A friend for Bach? Will it be another dog just as big as Bach, or did you have something else in mind? I'm excited for visiting more Catacomb entrances since it seems like such a secret thing! I'll always protect you, never have to worry about that. It's a good thing you like it when I blush, since you make me blush so often! I don't know that I'll always be the sexiest of us when I think you are, without question. Now that filming's over, breaking in both our places will be an easier goal! Maybe after you're all finished with promo. Of course, and I love London too, so it's certainly not like you'd have to pull my arm if you wanted to visit there. And I'm happy being where you are too, so honestly, that sounds perfect to me.
Well, I want to show you all of my favorite places, and especially those we can dance! I'm smiling hearing you say that you love cooking with me, and whether it's in cooking classes or at one of our places, I know we'd have a great time and learn to make something new. I'm excited to fill up those cooking books too! Bentley definitely liked you, though I had no doubts at all that he would! I know the sanctuary appreciated the donation so much, and at least we got to interact with some of the other animals while we were helping feed them! You absolutely have a kind heart, love. I knew my parents would end up liking you, and I think they're so happy they've met you since I talk about you so much! I'm just telling the truth, you're amazing! Though you're making me blush saying I'm the amazing one. Do you really think your family will like me? Because I hope so! I'm all for visiting London and seeing them whenever you'd like to. It's a good thing I make you smile and make you happy then, since that's a reason for them to like me. You're welcome for the camping spot, and I knew you'd enjoy seeing the cattle and being on the ranch. Maybe cows are just like giant puppies around you, since they clearly wanted your affections! Turkey will be a lot of fun, although you know I'm all for any holidays with you. And we can spoil each other everywhere we go, no question on that. Now that I'm not working, you can wake me up that way as much as you'd like, especially since most days, we don't have an early call time. Or yet, I should say, since I know you have some promo coming up. Between those and the morning showers, I'm definitely becoming more a fan of mornings. No, you didn't scare me off at all, Joseph, and if anything, it means a lot to me that you're thinking about us in future terms. And I love you, and I'm so happy you feel the same way about me. Not to mention I feel so incredibly lucky for it, too. I want that with you too, living together at some point and getting married when the timing feels right for it. Makes me curious if you've thought of where we should live, like where you'd want a place together. I do love you, Joseph, and it makes me smile that I can say it now without holding back. Nothing I can say would scare you? Not that I'd test that theory, though saying I love you out loud was the scariest thing up until now! And I do want forever with you, and honestly, it makes my heart race just saying that out loud too, not to mention knowing you want the same thing. I'll kiss you as much as you'd like, that's a fact! well, no surprise when you linger on my mind in general, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I absolutely loved the decorations and the red theme, and well, I feel like I showed just how much I loved it with including it as part of the photo album I gave you! It just meant the world to me since no one's ever done that for me before. Christmas and New Year's with you was incredible, and it was fun getting to spend both of them in New York. I bet you'll end up playing the mandolin beautifully too, and we'll have to start in on the lessons soon! I really did love your gifts, and that necklace is honestly my new favorite. Plus we'll definitely have to plan the cruise soon since it'll be a lot of fun! The kiss in Time's Square was so memorable, and well, I don't doubt in the least that all our New Year's kisses will be that memorable, too. I'm happy you liked the idea of Devonian Gardens before we had to leave, albeit a week earlier than I'd said in honor of your birthday! I have a feeling you liked it, but did you enjoy the cabin I rented for that week along with your other birthday gifs? It was difficult to keep from you, I can say that! And well, you're stuck with me since I don't have to film anything for now, so I can take care of you while you're having to work. | @josephafq
i feel like it's easy to appreciate calgary more because i'm here with you, yeah? but you're right -- aside from the cold, it's a nice city and we've really had a great time and have done some fun things together! and you know i feel the same way about you, love, that anything is more fun with you at my side. i'm glad you love attending my premieres, because i love having you on my arm so much, and it means the world that you're so supportive. you're making me blush a little right now saying that, and i'm glad you think it ends up being special, love. i'm glad it might be a little bit before i work again, so i get to spend as much time with you as possible. and i was very glad for your time off for the holidays as well, because i loved getting to go to flordia with you! the warm weather there was gorgeous, and i almost hated to leave to have to go back to the cold! i like the idea of dressing up in halloween costumes that are popular at that time -- i'm sure we can have a lot of fun with that, i just know i want to match with you! i'm glad to put your mind at ease, love, but i'll admit i have those same kind of worries too, you know? i know that i would be lost without you, so i'll do anything to make sure i don't lose you. i'm glad being in my arms is so comforting, love, and i love having you in my arms so lucky that, yeah? i love your clinginess, honestly, and love that you love mine too! i have been thinking about new dates to plan, i really want to take you some place special that just shows you how much you mean to me. and i loved the something fun you had planned while in tampa, i had a very good time and you know you're the most thoughtful man on the planet, right? oh, very much so, because i love the hot springs there so much and i love going to them with you! i'm glad we'll get to visit them again before your filming is over! and i love recreating everything we've done there together as well, i can't get enough of you, though i'm sure you already know that, yeah? i'm glad that you're on board with staying at the hot springs a little longer so we can truly take advantage of them, and you're right, it would be the perfect post-filming celebration! i'm glad you always love hot tubs with me, love, and we've had a lot of fun in them, haven't we? i love hearing that i made you blush by saying that, but it's the truth, the best feeling is knowing that you're all mine, and it's safe to say that i love being all yours, love. i mean, as long as you're not sick of my knitted items, i'll make a ton more for you! i'm glad that you always want to be near me, like i do you, and i miss you so much when we're apart. i especially miss having you in my arms! it's good that we don't let bach know that we like each other's cuddles better than his, it might hurt his feelings. though speaking of bach, i've been wondering, do you think he looks lonely? because i was wondering if maybe we should get him a friend. i'll reach out to jamie and let him know that we'd like to meet up with them and visit some secret catacomb entrances, he'll be shocked that i'm asking! and thank you for saying you'll always hold my hand, love. it's my favorite when you blush, i hope you know that. but i really do think you're the sexiest, part of why i can't keep my hands off you, love. plus, i'm glad you think i'm so sexy and all, but you'll always be the sexiest of us. i love kissing you every morning too, love, it really is the best way to start the day. i love sending you off to set with plenty of kisses! i'm looking forward to breaking in your place a little more in new york as well, and of course we've still got some places in my apartment as well that we need to break in! yes, wherever you are, i'm happy to be right alongside you! and i'm glad that's mutual, love, and thank you for saying you'll always be willing to visit london whenever i'm missing it. though i've been feeling good, lately and just happy being where you are.
it's sweet that you wanted to take me to one of your favorite spots in new york -- and honestly, the dancing with you was the best part of the night! i'm glad you're all for taking more cooking classes, love, and i know we'll have a fun time with cooking new things and filling up those books. plus, i just really love cooking with you, you know? it's sweet! it was so fun getting to meet bentley, and i have a feeling he liked me, do you think he did? and i'm glad that i was able to donate a little something to the sanctuary, as well as help out with some things while we were there too. though you're making me blush saying i have a kind heart. it was a little scary meeting your parents, i'll admit, but i am so happy they ended up liking me. and now you're really making me blush saying your'e with someone who is as amazing as i am, when you're the amazing one, love! once you're done filming, we'll head to london for a little bit so you can meet my family -- and they really are going to love you. anyone that makes me smile as much as you do and makes me happy as you do, they're going to love. and thank you for taking me to such a great camping place, i loved it so much, and i had fun seeing the cattle. also, i didn't realize that cows could be like giant puppies, you know? i'm glad you're all for going to turkey, love, and that you're as excited as i am about all the holidays that we've got planned. i love the idea of seeing the world with you, love, and can't wait to spoil you at every place we go, as well as have you spoil me! i'm also very happy i can wake you up in the way i like as many times as i'd like, given it's my favorite way to help you start the day! well, it's tied with our morning showers because i love them with you and agree that i'm liking mornings better as well. first let me say that i'm glad i didn't scare you off, because i was really worried. but yeah, i do love you, i love you a whole lot and i've wanted to tell you for a while now. and i do think about us living together and getting married at some point -- which is a little scary because you're right they are big things to say, but i wanted you to know that i'm thinking that, and that i want that with you. and you love me too? just getting really emotional with you saying that i'll have you know, and it makes me feel better you've known for a while too. nothing you could say would ever scare me though, just putting that out there, alright? god, i'm so glad that you want forever with me too, owen, i can't even put into words how that makes me feel. and you're right, neither of us have any reason to be scared since we're on the same page. you'll kiss me all the time? lucky me! oh, i really will always enjoy those favors, love, and i'm glad they tend to linger in your mind as well, that makes me feel very good. it makes me so happy that you loved all the decorations i had done at my place, love, and of course i had to do a red theme since it's your favorite color after all! i'm glad our christmas together was a good one, same with our new years! i can't wait to start mandolin lessons with you, love, i'm really excited and hope i end up playing it decently! i'm glad you feel spoiled by my gifts though, love, and it makes me smile you're never taking off that necklace! plus, i love that you're excited about the cruise because i know we're going to have so much fun on that ship! oh, i loved kissing you in times square as well, i'm so glad you were my new years kiss, and look forward to you always being my new years kiss. and going back to devonian gardens before we leave calgary sounds like a brilliant idea, love. i'm pretty happy you're stuck with me for a while, honestly. and exactly, i'm happy when we can take care of each other, i love taking care of you. and you always make me feel happy and safe, there's no doubt about that. || @teaguehq

Dividers by @thecutestgrotto & @strangergraphics
You two were never to meet. Afterall, you were both from two different worlds that only ever intertwined in the shadows. You lived in ballgowns and politics, delicate hands never even having to feed yourself if you lack any such desire on a given day. He lived in stone and clay and plaster, calloused hands rumoured to be tinged with gold or magic because of how he could bring any material to life.Â
You were the daughter of a Duke, and while he was indeed a prodigy, the most sought after artist in all the four kingdoms, that didnât mean the public would take too kindly to a relationship or marriage between you. It would never work.
Itâs what youâve been trying to come up with a way to tell him that whatever it was between you two had to end. There was no future for it, nothing to look forward to.
So why did you fall in love with him? Just when did you manage to fall for the Hands of Midas himself?
You wondered if it was between the silences youâve shared, as he was a man of few words. Or maybe it was the dedication and focus he had when he was working. Perhaps, one too many instances of you watching him work on the sculptures your father commissioned for the parlour. Nights where you hoped, prayed, wished and even went as far as risking your dignity to beg and plead with the skies if they could make you marble or clay or anything just once. How his hands moved creating lines and shadows, bringing new life to every area he touched - it made you wonder if he could bring a new life to you too.Â
You heard him laugh exactly once, but you vividly remember every smile and you secretly wished they were all for you.
If only you knew that Min Yoongi had saved every smile for you.Â
He never wanted to be sponsored by the Duke. He didnât want anything to do with any of the nobles. Heâd wanted to stay home, with his family. All he knew for his entire life was art. His motherâs singing, his fatherâs painting and his own love for sculpting. He was always quiet, observing the world around him and seeing every flaw. But Yoongi thought they were beautiful, so he used his hands to create the world that he sees, the one he loves. He didnât need anything else. But going to stay with a wealthy family would be good for his own family. Heâd get a great education, a place to stay and of course, he could sculpt whenever his heart desired- thatâs what his mother told him as she sent him off on the carriage when he was younger.
Of course he missed his mother, cried for the first and last time the day he left. He was sure nothing could ever make leaving home worth it, wanted to curse the Duke and everything he stood for ripping him away from his recently widowed mother. Oh how that quickly changed when a girl with the kindest eyes and the biggest and brightest eyes ran out just as he was getting out of the carriage at the duchy. He noticed the dirt on her cheeks, how she seemed unbothered; happy. How she dragged along who he would correctly assume was a younger sibling- though she expressed more discomfort at whatever she was unwillingly being volunteered into.Â
Being sponsored by the Duke had its perks, though. Yoongi would get to spend his days learning whatever they thought he needed academically, and as soon as that was done heâd get to bask in the glow of his art and his loyal audience of exactly one. Just as he would trace the lines on his current project, you would be tracing him. Of course, he couldnât help the smiles he desperately tried to suppress whenever you were around. That was the only thing that could happen between you two, he knew that. You and him could never happen, surely such a pairing would be doomed from the start. He could only ever dare to reach out to you in his most wretched dreams. That was as far as he would go.
That was how far he thought he would have gone until that day between the marble and the roses things went just a bit too far. Spilled wine, whispered confessions and shared desire broke years of silence and tension. Suddenly, the spectator was the centre of attention. Though Yoongi didn't miss the opportunity that you had always been the star in his eyes. A star he never thought heâd ever get to hold in his hands, despite the risk of being burnt.
The risk was great. He knew it and so did you.Â
And yet you would find yourself wrapped up in Yoongi always, somehow. You loved him, you were sure. So what if the risk was drowning? Whatever great thing that you were born to accomplish in this life couldnât compare to loving him, being loved by him.Â
Your mother, ever the noble lady she tried to raise you to be, asked you if you were sure that this was what you wanted to do. Left without a word to speak to your father, you presumed. You knew what it would come down to at the end of the day, knew that surely you couldnât have your cake and eat it too.Â
Your father was always the kind of man to talk about duty and honour. Never failing to tell you and your sister the importance of the roles you were born in. Heâd always encouraged you both that being a leader in any sense of the word, was to be wise both in mind and the heart. You were in his office with your sister when he told you that knowledge was just a blade without the handle of wisdom. You were also in his office whenever he scolded you for something like missing lessons with the governess (again) or whenever he praised you for a beautiful painting you made.
This time, you sat stood before him, too scared, too nervous for the outcome. Hoping the âBut father, I love himâ you were holding on your tongue would be enough of an explanation for him. Hoping that you didnât break down and cry and beg and plead for him to let you go. That you really tried not to fall for him, but some things were inevitable. You had so much to say in your defense. All ready to run away should they decide to lock you up in the duchy forever or marry you off to some old widower. You werenât prepared for when your father took your own hand in his, and looked at you with something that you truly did not have the words to describe. âAre you truly serious about this? Do you love him, ___?â
âWith everything,â The tears you planned to use and beg were now threatening to make an appearance for a whole different reason. âI donât want to have to live a life knowing I gave up the chance to love him.â You sat at his feet like you used to when you were much smaller. âI know youâre disappointed in me and that Iâve let you down but father, Iâm-âÂ
You never got to apologise. Not when your father told you you had nothing to apologise for, that he knows this must have meant a lot to you since you actually wanted to apologise for breaking the rules this time. He hugged you and told you heâd already spoken to Yoongi, that you both shouldnât just run away, that heâd take care of everything- that he could make sure you were safe one last time. What could you have possibly done, except cry while your father held you for the first time in a long time, for the last time in a long time.Â
Itâs how you found yourself still crying in the arms of your younger sister. You had come to tell her that you had made your mind up, you came to tell her goodbye.
Evening came, stealing away the daylight, but also bringing the time you were to leave everything familiar and dear to you behind. You were still in your sisterâs room, head in her lap as she absentmindedly stroked her fingers through your hair. It was almost as if she was the older one today, but then again- she was always the more composed of the two of you. You were leaving her with a heavy burden, a great responsibility. But you knew that she could handle it much better than you ever would, with much more grace than you could even think to imagine.
âWhat is love, that youâre so willing to give everything up like this?â You took some time before answering your sisterâs question, only to put your thoughts together.Â
âLove is something that knocks on your door at odd hours in the night. It warms your cheeks when you're out during the day, it chases you through meadows- itâs an adventure that comes to find you when it knows you're ready to sacrifice everything to chase it. Eventually, youâll find yourself where love rests.â
âIâm afraid youâve left me even more confused than I was three minutes agoâŚâ She looked at you, the sad smile not reaching her eyes.
âOne day, you will find love, and find yourself, and find your answer.â Thatâs what you told her as you embraced her for the last time for a long time.
You yourself often wondered what love was. But in the carriage your father arranged for you the night you left home, in the place you now live with a man you were convinced was born from your dreams, in the letters you exchange with your sister ever so often⌠You can safely say you found it.
AN: Thanks again for reading everyone, feedback is always appreciated đ.

arcane Viktor and likely spoilers for both seasons
I keep thinking about Viktor from arcane all the time and I've written poems and had lengthy conversations about it but decided that I need to state it in prose to on an account that I barely update because this account is full of things that mean something to me
I constantly think about the lengths Viktor went to to be well. The writers lured me in thinking maybe hextech or the arcane or shimmer would help Viktor's vision of running on a purple arcane body become a reality. However in the end viktor became equally if not more disabled than before. He lived, yes, but at what cost, killing Sky?
And I'm a believer in the mutual JayVik love and understanding, but Sky still mattered. She was brilliant and wonderful and kept Viktor grounded. Took his head out of his work and into the clouds (eventually literally).
Often, as disabled people, we are told that if we worked harder our problems could go away and it is a prominent belief in our culture, even if unconsciously so. I remember years ago Imani Barbarin made a video on how able bodied people want to believe they could work their way out of any disability by trying harder. They then project this onto disabled people to shield themselves from their inevitable fate (disability or death). This myth is pervasive and as much as I and many people want the betterment of all, perpetuating this myth, even in a fantasy story, is at best unrealistic and at worst problematic.
However, Arcane subverts this expectation because Viktor lives, but he lives a disabled life. He tried harder, and it tore him apart. To me this is a more powerful story than overcoming. Most can try, and most don't overcome not due to personal shortcoming but because trying harder â getting better (at least inherently and especially with disability).
It reminded me of how in my freshman year of college, I dropped my math minor. It was upsetting and annoying because it was an attempt to hold onto the pieces of my first analytical love, math. However I didn't have the right wheelchair then and I didn't know it yet but I was becoming progressively more paralyzed. I just couldn't make it to the classroom they assigned me and they refused to change it.
I told my mother that at a certain point it felt more impactful that my disability made a noticeable impact in limiting me instead of trying to torture myself into narrative of overcoming. Not taking that first class was one of many times Calc II would get in my way, each time related to disability.
Viktor, like me, had a progressive disability that would've continued to progress until it killed him without drastic action. For me the drastic action was a surgery that made me be on constant opioids all summer and destroyed my relationship with my mother and the scraps of independence I still had. For Viktor it was taking shimmer and bearing the almighty power of the hex core.
I guess I write all this to say that my love of math and my disability parallel viktor. We have scientific loves and would work ourselves to death. We can be romantic when we get our heads out of our work. And we are disabled. Sick and disabled. So sick we put our lives at risk for health. Even a glimmer of health.
I know Jayce's speech is controversial among disabled people. I respect the opinions of others but I think many people don't get the experience of severe disability when interpreting it. In real life with the wide variety of disabilities, Viktor may not fall into that category but he surely does in Piltover. For me, my disability is severe. So severe I questioned if, as much as I looked up to Viktor, II could ever be respected like him. However disabled people don't become more respected by shunning nonambulatory powerchair users like me. They just isolate those that make up their community.
From a severely disabled person, understand that yes, I understand you want to fix yourself, but when you have a disability that at any point threatens your life, there is a certain ubiquitous self destruction in everything you do. That's why Viktor needed Jayce's speech. It wasn't because Jayce didn't see Viktor or his pain. Jayce knew Viktor was in pain. Jayce knew Viktor better than he knew anyone. And Jayce knew Viktor needed to be shown his value that was independent of effort--- his value as a person.
To be loved is to hear things that you can't fully wrap your head around. I believe (when I think really hard about it) that I can be who am both because of and despite my disability. I say to my closest friends that it feels like all I ever was was a miracle sick child who lived and a smart person. And I break off each quality about myself and my friend says that she'd still find value in me. Because there are people in our lives like Jayce or my friend who will give speeches to you, not to gain anything but to show you your worth even if it kills them. Because in every universe, sometimes there's only one person who can show you that-- who can stop you from ending the world even if it means succumbing to life and it's inevitable partner, death. Because the people we love don't want to see our sinews as we tear apart ourselves to breathe. They want to see us. They don't want us to suffer as much as we do. But for us there is a desire to be well. And that desire drives suffering it doesn't fix it.
Viktor meant a lot to me as someone whose life keeps changing especially in regards to their disability. Hesitancy toward drugs and spinal hardware and leg braces. And so did the way he almost destroyed the world craving something.
I have longed to be normal, to be well for most of my life. But life doesn't work that way. In fixing ourselvea and the things we view as flaws, we lose beautiful parts in the crossfire. Our friends beg us to see ourselves and if we're lucky our friends do. But so do we. I don't succeed but maybe Arcane has pushed me to see the beauty of being kind to myself because working myself into the ground isn't worth the pain especially with such a bleak unsuccessful outcome. We'll be told to fix ourselves forever but at least for once, in this one show, we can be valued despite our ardor for work. Yes, it isn't inherently wrong to want to be better. But we have lifetimes for that. Just this once maybe we can sit in the beauty of being loved both because
and despite.

Lmk au idea.
Wukong isn't MK's teacher. At least, not in the same way he is in the show.
In this idea I had randomly pop into my head I'm thinking that Wukong had gone above and beyond simply vanishing for 500 years and hiding out on FFM. He straight up changed his identity and went into hiding as a mortal. He says fuck off to being a demon god, fuck off to all the gods and celestials and all his titles. He retires, fully and completely, passing his crown off to his Stalwarts and just becomes a wanderer traveling around, doing odd jobs and never staying in one place too long.
At some point over the centuries he ends up back in the village that he left his staff in, or rather, whay it became. A sprawling metropolis of a city that a person trying to disappear can easily do so. He set up shop, having had many hats over the years he's able to easily pick up a humble job nobody would blink twice at. Mechanics are always sorely needed in large cities after all.
One day at his shop a hauntingly familiar fave appears at his doorstep. Pigsy's truck had broken down while he was out with baby MK on a supply run and Wukong's shop had been the closest mechanic they could find. Wukong could sense something was special about MK, but not what or why and after he fixed up the truck he spent the next hour or so reminding himself that he is not Sun Wukong anymore, he is not part of that life anymore. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Wukong's mechanic work was something Pigsy liked, a lot. The truck was running smoother than if ever did before and the price was a steal! Wukong quickly became the favorite mechanic shop for Pigsy's Noodles and MK began to show up more often at the mechanic shop (he crashed a lot of stuff ok). Wukong ends up becoming the cool mechanic dude who helped teach MK how to mod his hoverboard and would often drop cryptic but helpful advice to the kid, Wukong having settled with the idea that he can look after the kid at least since it doesn't look like Zu Baijie's decendant or the kid were going to go away anytime soon. This led to meeting Tang and Mei, which were... experiences. And Wukong just ends up being a family friend to the Noodle Gang who likes cold vegetarian noodles.
Then a Hero is Born happens. Wukong hadn't been there for that experience. He was "on a supply run" when DBK was freed, he was in a different town entirely. So he wasnt physically present when MK became the Monkie Kid. It doesn't mean he wasn't completely uninvolved, though. Wukong isn't stupid, he knows DBK would eventually be freed, and he also knew it was possible someone else would pick up his staff. Afterall the staff had chosen him, not the other way around. It isn't unfeasable to imagine it'd pick another now that it's owner has put it down. Plus it isn't entirely impossible to imagine whoever it is would seek him out, he was the last known person to wield the Ruyi Jingu Bang after all.
He left a series of visions and astral projected recordings in his cave. The first being triggered should anyone breach his cave, the vision MK first sees when he enters Water Curtain Cave, only it doesn't stop at Wukong just running off. The projection speaks.
Wukong's recording. Looking as laid back and amused as can be: If you're seeing this, congrats! You got past my unstoppable barrier! Unfortunately I'm afraid that you won't be able to find me, as I would have been long gone from this place and am retired! So if your here for an autograph I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to leave.
MK: WHAT!?
Wukong's recording, becoming serious and almost sad: If you are a friend, however. I want to say I'm sorry, but please don't go seeking me out. I am hanging up my crown and title as the Great Sage and the Monkey King, and I don't not wish to be disturbed. Over the centuries I've come to realize my whole life I've done nothing but hurt the people I care about, so... for everyone's sake... I'm disappearing so that I can't hurt anyone again. Ever. And if you find my staff, I'm sorry I can't be there to help you. But I'll give you a piece of advice I learned, believe in yourself. Even just a smidge can make all the difference.
MK is gobsmacked at the thought that Sun Wukong had just up and left like that, that he's been gone for a long time and won't be able to help. He decides if Wukong wasn't there to be a hero anymore, he'd do it for him. Just a smidge makes a difference, right?
And so the Monkie Kid becomes the Monkie Kid. Over the next season or so he struggles a lot with his powers, not having a proper mentor. See, unlike the rest of the Noodle Gang, since Wukong wasn't physically present when MK became the town hero he isn't ever explicitly told it's MK. MK literally just forgets to mention it to him, but he does his best to help where he can. Giving advice where he can.
Most everything else was done without his input, altho MK did find it weird that the Calabash seemed to think his mechanic friend was the Monkey King. It's the first hint he ever has that Wukong was not as he seemed, but he write it off as him simply thinking of Wukong as a mentor figure since he's always been supportive and gave helpful advice and the Calabash substituting the Monkey King for Wukong.
Even the Macaque episode was done mostly without his input, altho a certain black furred monkey was not happy that his attempt to lure Wukong out didn't work at all. Wukong had been busy with renovations to expand the shop at the time, thus where the "step into the strike" advice came from since MK had been helping Wukong with tearing down the wall.
The big reveal about Wukong being the Monkey King only happens during Revenge of the Spider Queen, when Wukong has no choice but to step in as the Monkey King. And believe me, he is absolutely not happy about the matter. He doesn't run away once everything is done and over, but it's very clear that he is upset by the way he avoids everyone and jsut sits curled up on the rooftop. When asked why he never told them, especially knowing MK was using his staff, he first points out MK had never explicitly told him about the whole Monkie Kid business so he had no reason to "know" anything about it. Then he jsut points to the destroyed city.
Wukong: This is what happens everytime the Monkey King appears. Destruction, death, and chaos. I didn't want to be that anymore.
This spun off from a convo on how Wukong likely felt abandoned by his mentor(s), beginning with Subodhi, the allies he made in Heaven before the war, Guanyin, and even Tripitaka when the monk passed.
Wukong, going by just "Wu", drifting along the centuries living a mortal life. Packs up and leaves whenever conflict or war breaks out, or when people start to get suspicious.
His number one rule? Never get attached. Never again...
He becomes a mechanic (a real "grease monkey" if you will). Although he loves medicine and herbalism, it simply has too many paper trails. Also cars are fun to tinker with and don't talk back most of the time. Less likely to make a connection.
He eventually returns to the village where he lay his Staff down for good. Just seemed right coming up to the 500 year anniversary of one of his biggest regrets. The village has since become a sprawling mega-city, open to humans and demons alike. There he plants his roots.
The biggest shock of his life comes when he sees his brothers faces and souls all over again. Three in new bodies, and one in the same. A certain fish demon had pretended he didnt recognise him, and Wu returned the courtesy - seems he wasn't the only one from the old days to retire.
He wonders if it was the right decision to settle in Megapolis...
Until the day Pigsy knocks on Wu's shop, breathless and carrying a wiggly baby human (?). His food truck had given up the ghost and the cook desperately needed repairs asap! Wu simply couldn't turn him away.
Through the conversation and the repair process, the wiggly baby maybe-human had stared at the monkey demon with absolute wonder. Wu isn't sure why until he overhears the cub blabble something into his father's ear.
MK: "Mon-ken." Pigsy, fond sigh: "No MK, that's not the Monkey King. He just looks like the drawing in your Baba's book." Wu, nearly drops the truck on himself: "Eh?" Pigsy, little embarassed: "Oh! Sorry. The piglet is convinced that you're the Monkey King. My partner researches mythology and stuff, and he fills the kid's head with all sorts of ideas." Wu, rolls out from under the truck with a cheeky smile: "It's no problem. You'd be surprised how often I get mistaken for him! Think its the fur." (*Wu shares a glance at MK, the baby human is still staring at him unconvinced. Wukong makes a unsubtle shush motion and winks - causing the little human to wiggle once more with joy. Pigsy sighs fondly once more, knowing that the boy will most definitely hold this moment dear throughout his childhood*)
With that one chance meeting, Wukong breaks his number one rule; Never get attached.
It's not his fault he fixed the truck so good that Pigsy became a loyal customer! And the pig demon began tipping him with free cold vegetarian noodles. And that the scholar at the shop and him started info-dumping together! And that the little human began seeing him as a beloved uncle...
Oh yeah. Wu is in too deep. Hopefully nothing too chaotic happens within the next few years or so >:3
You can say a certain monkey demon nearly had a heart attack when he learned that someone had finally taken up his Staff - and that it was his little buddy!! Also Sandy is back in the gang, so they can't pretend that they dont know each other for long.
Wu would *like* to step up and reveal himself as the Monkey King to MK - but he feels that would just make things so much worse. The kid's trust in him would shatter immediately. So it's better to leave his projections on FFM to do the physical training, and for Uncle Wu to provide him with much-needed emotional guidance.
Sharing this dm you sent in particular based on the "Macaque" episode cus it's a tasty piece of dialogue:
MK: "Is it really better to focus your power into every attack?" Wu: "Hm, that's a lonely way of thinking. And dangerous. Look at this hammer I use for example, it's strong but if I'm not careful an just bang away at metal, it'd hit hard but it'd cause more damage to myself and the people around me. But if I were to... step into the swing so to speak and not depend on the hammer but rather my own strength, it's easier to control and has less risk of hurting myself."
He had been doing renovations on the wall to expand his business at the time, thus why he was banging at the wall with a hammer.
Eventually the episode ends with Macaque calling desperately out to the battlefield - almost begging for his king to reappear. The shadow monkey is so occupied in his despair and anger that MK manages to slip free and reclaim his power.
MK promptly bullies Macaque into actually mentoring him. Macaque chuckles at the nerve of this kid, and agrees - but only as a truce until Wukong returns. After that, Macaque expects a rematch.
Unironically loving this AU

This rumour (which has yet to be confirmed and some saying it's false) is certainly the topic of debate in the Sonic fandom. Some fans are incredibly excited at the idea of Sonamy romance in Sonic 4, while others groan at the idea. For me personally, I hope they will have a romantic comedy aspect for Sonic and Amy in Sonic 4, but I believe it will work better as a sub-plot. I believe the main plot will focus on action and defeating the Metal Sonic's and any other villains in the film. I'm open to time travel and/or going to other planets if they want a loose inspiration to Sonic CD.
The Sonamy ship unfortunately is an incredibly divisive part of the Sonic fandom, as is Amy Rose's character portrayal. Sadly, I know not everyone is going to be happy with how Amy is portrayed in the movie and how they may or may not portray her relationship with Sonic. That's why I believe the Sonic movie writers ought to tread carefully with their writing for Amy and the Sonamy ship itself.
While I'm all for Sonamy becoming an official couple in the movie universe (I believe movie Sonic is more open to having a romantic relationship than his game counterpart), but I don't think they should rush into it right away. It may be wiser to keep the slow burn going over the course of several films for the sake of warming people up to idea of Sonic and Amy potentially becoming a couple.
The slow burn principle worked incredibly well for Broppy in the Trolls franchise as many fans were begging the creators to get Branch and Poppy together and for them to kiss. The creators listened and the fans eventually got their wish:
Hopefully if enough people respond positively to Amy and her relationship with Sonic in the movie, and it will hopefully inspire the Sonic movie writers to go canon on Sonamy as girlfriend and boyfriend. They've been great at listening to fans so far, I hope that they will respond well to fans feedback for future projects. Whichever direction they go with the franchise, I hope they still make great movies that the fans love.
I swear if this turns out to be True I will LEGIT Scream, because I literally called this DAYS before Sonic 3 came out because it just FITS so well ^^ ooouu baby Sonic 4 just keeps getting better and better every time I hear about it

I recently had to do a project in one of my psych classes, and man, I knew that CBT was used for every little thing, but seeing over and over, "do CBT! CBT is the best for every mental illness!" was so jarring. I'm absolutely biased because of my own experiences, but I just don't think it's as universal a treatment model as it's touted.
If you didn't benefit from CBT, it's not because you're lazy or didn't try hard enough or lacked intelligence or foresight into your own needs. Frankly, it's a therapy model that (I think) shouldn't be the only readily-accessible model and among the only therapy models covered by insurance. Some of us should not be treated in a CBT model and that's okay. It's not a sign of poor character or unreasonable demands, and if you don't think it's a model that works for you, then it's your right to express that!
#mental health#mental health advocacy#it was just so annoying because every resource i could access for this project often ONLY recommended cbt and#that just doesn't seem helpful for a good chunk of people#because i know i never benefitted from that model of therapy#obligatory: i am not against this therapy. me having a negative experience with it is not indicative that i believe it should be abolished'#if it works for you: KEEP DOING IT. cbt is not inherently harmful for MANY people and it's a good and valuable tool for many#but the overemphasis of cbt as the Only Therapy Model You Need sends this message that YOU failed...#...if you don't miraculously recover with that therapy model. it often feels like you'll Fail Recovery/Therapy and you're now a Bad Person#i've tried for over a decade to stick out cbt with a dozen therapists to boot. so i think i know a thing or two about my experiences with it#and overall its an unimpressive model (for me) as someone whos had a history with abuse and miscellaneous mental knickknacks rattling around#it's also frustrating because i genuinely like psych and i love learning about people#it's just. i'm tired of only being exposed to cbt (because i hate it honestly)#i feel similarly about cbt as i do with sigmund fucking frued#anyway i just want other insane people (affectionate) to remember that they deserve to not beat themselves up over this#if you're an insane person reading this: i love you i love you i love you i love you#i will share a slice of cake and homemade bread with you <3

I would pay such good money for confirmation of whether Ratio and Aventurine have worked together before Penacony. How did it happen??? The talks that went on before Final Victor... The initial spark of inspiration to stick Those Two Guys together...
Like, I just have to know if someone in the IPC deliberately tossed Aventurine and Ratio on to a team together (with or without good intentions). Are any of the higher ups in the IPC or the Intelligentsia Guild out there counting on this partnership working out for the best?
To be a fly on the wall when Ratio found out who he'd been hired to "consult" with...
And Aventurine, getting the IPC mission orders across his desk like "Ah, yes, finally. He's here. My Government Assigned Boyfriendâ˘."
