Battling Basal Cell Carcinoma

With an estimated 3.6 million new cases diagnosed annually in the United Stated, Basal Cell Carcinoma is regarded as the most frequently occurring form of all cancers. Exasperated by over-exposure to the UV rays of the sun and tanning beds, this ailment arises from the uncontrolled growth of basal cells.

There is a myth concerning white sugar and cancer. However, no direct connection between the two has been proven. The link appears to be more of an indirect attachment.

Every cell in the body, including cancer cells, uses sugar for energy. Sugar is full of empty calories, ones that outweigh the nutrients found in the food consumed. But, sugar does not automatically make cancer spread.

Make no mistake about it, cancer cells thrive on sugar as their primary source of fuel. This includes brown, corn, and white sugar. On the other hand, fruit sugar has been shown through research to assist in the fight against cancer.

Approximately 2,000 people a year die from BCC, which can be divided into four main groupings. These include Superficial BCCs, Nodular BCCs, Morphoeic BCCs, and Infiltrative BCCs.

Superficial BCCs are low-grade neoplasm amenable to excisional removal. They can cause significant destruction and have the highest rate of reoccurence.

Shiny, pearly, and smooth-surfaced, with a central ulcer and rolled edges, Nodular BCCs are the most common form of facial BCCs. Blood vessels may run into their surfaces. Additionally, they have jelly-like contents. Nodular BCCs are also known as Nodulocystic Carcinoma.

Also known as Morphoeiform BCCs and Sclerosing BCCs, Morphoeic BCCs are found mid-face. They are waxy and scar-like, with indistinct borders. They have deep and wide extensions and can infiltrate cutaneous nerves.

Infiltrative BCCs are white and develop in the skin's collagen fibers. They may be undetected by untrained eyes.

BCC has an approximate 98% 5-year survival rate.

In the middle of the street and with thousands of demonstrators going past were several prams and cots with babies and young people calling on us to go and demonstrate somewhere else as we are ruining their lives. I felt so sorry for them but this is the nearest we can get to Netanyahu's residence. He now lives in one of the main arteries of the city while the "royal" home is being renovated.....a mansion must be being built there to suit the requirements  of Sarah Antoinette. Even without our demonstrations the lives of all those who live in that street have been damaged....the whole street gets closed off and also all the side streets leading to it.

And for light amusement....my friend, Varda Levy, not the Varda who goes with me to demonstrations and I years ago at Purim.
