Day 7: Underwater [Ray Appreciation Week]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 865 words Warning: Angst plus spoilers for Ray’s past.  Summary: Water is not the only thing one can drown in. A/N: Did I just write a Day 7 a week after its due date? Yes. Do I give a fuck? Absolutely not. It felt like a dishonor for me to not write a Day 7 even if it’s way past the deadline. I would have written it earlier, but life managed to fuck me over last week. If you ask me, it’s pretty mild angst, compared to what I was originally leading it up to, but that’s just me. Warnings are in effect when you click on that read more. Tagging @ikerev-appreciation

It was that time again.
Neither of them said a word to each other as they stepped out of the carriage. The woods were generously quiet, the sounds of their footsteps echoing around them. They had departed early in the morning, as Ray prefers it. In all the years he’s been doing this, he’ll never get used to the sight that greeted him.
The ocean breeze swept across his cheek as they approached their destination. A place to bury their dead, a small corner to honor loved ones.
No, he didn’t know all of them personally. But their names were all too familiar, their fates bruised into his memory like a tattoo. He begins his sort of ritual with the closest one, bending down and running his fingertips along the engraving. His lover stands beside him as he reaches into the basket she’s carrying, taking a flower before laying it gently by the marble slab.
No, he doesn’t know their faces. But he remembers the way their bodies were scattered on the floor, covered in dust and blood.
He finishes the process earlier than anticipated. The sun hasn’t risen yet, its peaks of light barely spilling over the horizon. Ray stands in the middle of everything, looking out into the waters as he recites a prayer, one that he has memorized over the years.
They return to headquarters shortly after. Sirius says nothing as they cross paths in the hallway--he also knows what today is. The tactician simply claps his hand on his shoulder before leaving the couple by their bedroom door. She enters first and draws a warm bath for him, kissing him on the cheek before heading downstairs to help prepare their meals.
He sinks into the water, dunking his head underneath. His mind wanders through the beaten pathway of his memories, further down the line. Red bursts in front of his eyes like fireworks on display, looking away from its brightness.
In no time at all, he’s back to that moment.
Ray looks at his hands, sticky with blood and sweat. Students run past him, their voices high with panic and fear. He looks around and sees his classmates, most of them sprawled on the wooden school floors, staring at him with tense expressions. At least, the ones who were still alive. The others weren’t breathing anymore.
They didn’t need to speak as their eyes communicated their thoughts. It was noisy--the cacophony of labels and accusations screaming into his ears as he sought relief. His feet felt like lead as he dragged himself along the hallway, blindly walking in a haze of grey and orange.
Run! There’s a dangerous magic user on the campus!
Find that brat! We need him alive to use his power!
Each step only made them louder. Ray gathered his energy, breaking into a sprint.
Someone help! My friend is injured!
Where’s the army? They should be here by now!
Are we going to get killed?
Left. Right. Whichever way he turned, it was all the same. He urged himself to keep running.
He should have never been here! Now we’re doomed!
Let me out of here!
Shut up! He screamed into nothing. Exhaustion won him over as his legs collapsed under him, throttling him down to the ground. Ray pushed himself up on his elbows, struggling to breathe as the smoke thickened around him. His lungs felt like they were on fire, gasping for air to no avail.
Everywhere he looked, there were only flames and debris. The feeling of helplessness had started to settle in his chest, suffocating him as he fought for a way out. It felt like swallowing water, its weight holding him down like an anchor to the ocean floor. Closing his eyes, Ray focused on what little strength he had left. I can’t stop now, not until--!
He felt a warm hand on his shoulder. In a jerk, he sat up straight, cold water sloshing around him as his eyes adjusted to the morning light. Anastacia jumped in surprise, giving a small squeal from behind. Breakfast was just about to be served and she offered to fetch the remaining officers in their respective rooms.
The rest of the day went by without much incident, and night soon fell upon Cradle. Ray turned the crystal’s light off, climbing into the bed with her. For once, he wasn’t as sleepy as he should be despite it being midnight. Reaching out, he cupped her face and caressed her cheek with his thumb.
In front of her, he is only himself and no one else. There are no expectations to put on a brave face. A tremor shakes through him as hot tears spill from his eyes. She pulls him close, cradling his head to her chest to let him cry. In times when it is too overwhelming, her presence saves him from his own grief. Anastacia holds him until he stops shaking. Sleep claims his consciousness, worn out from today’s emotions.
Morning will come and he will be alright again. And when he gets caught up in the rivers of his past, he knows that she will always be there to reach out to him.

Day 6: Dress Up [Ray Appreciation Week]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 682 words Warning: None. Summary: Dress to impress is the motto, but who does Ray have to win over? A/N: Day 6! This took me a while to think about and honestly, I’m not sure what went on in my head when I talked about this idea in passing with @plumpblueberry . It was just a brief conversation about it but here we are, a small detail turned into a drabble! Tagging @ikerev-appreciation
---
There’s absolutely no reason for Ray to be nervous.
It was going to be a simple and casual dinner with the Stryvards. No, he was absolutely not tense and again, he wasn’t stalling in front of their door for anything else. He took a deep breath before knocking on the lovely mahogany wood.
“Oh, you’re already here!” Her smiling face was a welcoming sight. He wasn’t sure what to say if someone else had answered. Anastacia took a sweeping look at him, her head tilting in question. “Ray? It’s just dinner at home, but...”
It was a struggle to decide on his outfit. Seth had caught him mumbling about it the day before, immediately offering him his genuine and expert advice. It wasn’t so much of an offer as it was a demand for the other man to dress him appropriately. If given the option, he would have just worn his casual uniform. Ray firmly believed that the man would absolutely burst by the seams of his own uniform if he had mentioned that.
He didn’t think the black suit and tie was too formal, although he had to bargain to keep his hair the way it was. She herself wore a simple dress, nothing too fancy, but his clothes definitely spoke for itself. He pulled out two bouquet--one of lavenders and one of daisies--from his back and handed it to her, hoping to drop the topic. “I got these for you. And the other one is for your mother.”
“You didn’t have to, but they’re very lovely.” She took them both before ushering him in, directing him to the living room sofa before going off on her own to store the flowers. A few moments later, she came back with her mother in tow, exclaiming that she couldn’t wait to meet her daughter’s boyfriend.
Dinner wasn’t so bad. The food was lovely and delicious, the general conversation flowing relatively easy. There were small hiccups about their relationship, but a quick reprimand from Anastacia would usually put the topic out. Her mother was quite the inquisitive one, asking much about them while her older brother made snide remarks. Her grandfather would eat in silence as if enjoying the scene unfolding in front of him, making his own small comments as they talked. He wondered if he had dodged a bullet with her father being out of town due to work.
They were more than welcoming towards him, even calling him by his first name when he insisted. The atmosphere felt similar to the Black Army, where rank or status didn’t matter on the dining table. His mother had mentioned inviting him again for dinner when her husband came back from his business trip.
Three days later, she had come to headquarters first thing in the morning. Ray spotted her in the library, reading a novel far too intently as her eyebrows furrowed together.
He sat beside her, running his thumb down her forehead to ease her expression. “You’ll get wrinkles if you keep that up.” Anastacia smacked his arm playfully before closing her book. “What are you doing here so early?”
“Well.. I decided to get out of the house today for a change.”
“Why? Did something happen?”
“Nothing too serious. But I’m tired of my mother commenting every single thing she wants at our wedding. What clothes I’m going to wear, what she’s going to wear, even what kind of flowers to use for decoration--”
He blinked, processing the stream of information. “Wait, what?”
“They were so impressed with you at dinner, looking all handsome and elegant!” She pouted just a little. “Now my mother’s asking me about marriage and if you already have plans to propose to me.”
“Then I guess I’ll have to maintain my good reputation if I want their blessing, huh.” he teased at her, making her cheeks flush in embarrassment as she hid her face in his shoulder. It’s not like it was a far-fetched idea, but Ray wasn’t about to divulge that just yet. He could only chuckle at her reaction, ruffling her hair affectionately.

Day 5: Teamwork [Ray Appreciation Week]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 805 words Warning: None. Summary: Teamwork makes the dream work. A/N: Day 5! Yes, I know it’s behind. Life’s tough, but I’m just gonna keep writing even if it is late! I haven’t mentioned this in Anastacia’s profile (working on to update it to add her family and stuff), but the only additional stuff you need to know is that her grandfather owns a bookshop in Central Quarter and she helps him there, and that she has an older brother (they have a 7 year gap) who’s a carpenter. Okay? Okay! FYI, I got this idea while I was scrolling through tumblr and I saw this pic and I was like, ‘yep that’s totally random but fits the prompt’. Also this wasn’t the initial idea I had but anyway! Tagging @ikerev-appreciation
---
For once, Ray had gotten up early on an off day. Walking through Central Quarter without the hustle and bustle of the midday rush made it feel strange. Rounding a corner, he walked further down the street until he reached a bookshop with a closed sign. He knocked softly on the glass pane, catching the occupant’s attention.
“Ray!” his lover had opened the door, her face lighting up with a smile. She ushered him inside, closing it behind them as she turned to face him. “You’re quite ear--oh!”
He pulled her closer by the waist, capturing her lips in a warm kiss. Anastacia leaned into him, tilting her head as he deepened the kiss.
She had pulled away first, albeit reluctantly. Her cheeks were a pretty shade of pink as he chuckled. “Good morning.”
“G-Good morning..” her voice was small and shy, which just made her more adorable. “As I was saying, you’re quite early.”
Admittedly, he could have slept a little longer. They had planned to go out on a date today since both had been busy with their respective duties, with him to the army and her to the shop. He tucked a stray hair behind her ear, careful to not mess up her ponytail. “I missed you too much.”
“Mn, I missed you too.” She smiled at him before she gestured to the nearby sofa. “Why don’t you wait for me over there? I have to restock some shelves and wait for grandfather before we can leave.”
Ray let her go, immediately missing her warmth as he sat down. There was a basket on the table with a checkered blanket on top, presumably for their outing. He had mentioned a spot in the forest that he wanted to show her and she suggested to have a picnic there so they can spend some time alone together. It had been a hectic week for both of them and a quiet day seemed like the perfect way for them to recharge.
The sound of a tumbling book followed by a groan made him look up. He followed where the noise came from, going almost all the way to the back of the store. Anastacia was rubbing her head as she bent down to pick up the fallen book.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. The shelf is just too high for me and I overreached.”
He tilted his head. “Don’t you have the step stool? You have one  in the shop, right?”
“Yes, but a customer’s child broke it by accident the other day. We’ve asked my older brother to make another one much higher and durable, but it won’t be arriving for a few days.” She pouted, suddenly holding a finger up to him. “And no, you can’t restock the shelves for me.”
Now it was his turn to make a face. “Why not?”
“Because this isn’t your job and I have to do this by myself.”
Once again, she tried to put a single book in the upper shelf, but even standing on her tiptoes provided a struggle. She was successful, but at this rate, who knows what time she’ll finish.
Ray patted her on the shoulder, catching her attention. “Hang on, I have an idea.”
An hour later, Anastacia opens the bookshop just as her grandfather arrives. He kisses his granddaughter on the forehead before surveying the shop. “I see you managed to find a way to reach the top shelf, mija. How did you do that?”
“Ah, it’s a bit hard to describe, ingkong…” Her cheeks flush in embarrassment, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt.
He doesn’t ask any further as he notices Ray standing by the couch, a basket in his arm. “It’s good to see you, King.” “Just Ray would be fine, sir.” he smiled, looking over at the bookcases. “She worked really hard to fill up all the shelves.”
“Yes, she can get quite determined when she works. Now, I believe you two should get going before the sun gets too high.”
The couple left arm in arm as her grandfather watched them stroll down the street, his granddaughter having the sweetest smile on her face. He sat behind the counter and opened the newspaper she left for him before his grandson came in carrying a huge box. “Did she leave already?”
“You just missed her, mijo. You can leave the step ladder with me.”
Her older brother tilted his head, confused. “How did she fill in the shelves? Even if she jumped, she wouldn’t be able to reach it.”
“Hm, she finds her own way.” He went back to reading the news while waiting for his usual customers, thinking back on Anastacia. Who would have thought that sitting on the King of Spades’ shoulders gave her the right amount of height for that shelf.

Day 4: Collection [Ray Appreciation Week]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 728 words Warning: None. Summary: Collecting things is an act of collecting memories as well. A/N: Day 4! I have somehow managed to write for 4 consecutive days--let’s just not question how long it can take me! This one was the fastest to write so far from all of my entries, so let’s hope I can keep this up~ Tagging @ikerev-appreciation
---
There was a short knock on the office door. Anastacia entered the room with their two year old daughter in tow. She immediately ran across the room, making her way beside him as he reached to ruffle his daughter’s hair. “Hi Ray.”
“Hey.” he looked up at her, noticing the slight furrow on her forehead. “Is something wrong?”
She shook her head, approaching him as well in a few steps. “I was just wondering if I can leave Emma with you for a couple of hours. There’s something I have to buy in the Central Quarter and I’m worried I might lose track of her in the crowd.”
It was a weekend, which meant the Saturday market would be open near the Civic Hall. It did tend to get a bit crowded, especially at this time of the day. “Of course. I’ll keep an eye on her until you come back.”
She smiled and thanked him, giving him a sweet kiss before heading out. Anastacia had also left a basket full of toys for her, since she knew he would be working on a few papers. For some reason, none of them seemed to hold her interest for long, pulling out every single toy inside. “Papa!”
Ray looked up at her sitting in the middle of the office, various stuffed animals scattered around her. It was a mystery how she wasn’t entertained--and it hadn’t even been an hour since his wife left.
He got up from his chair and approached her, leaning down to scoop her up in his arms. “What’s wrong, my little angel?”
The pout on her face was his telltale sign. She was about to get fussy and he wasn’t sure what he could do to ease her when she started.
No need to panic, he can handle this. He was the King of Spades, for goodness sake! He’s commanded soldiers and won battles numerous times. Though it would have been easier if Anastacia was with him, since she would somehow be able to magically calm her down, no matter what stage of crying she was in...
It was a stretch, but he could give it a shot. “Hey Emma,” he spoke softly, cradling her to his chest. “do you want to see Mama?”
Her yellow eyes grew big, her little fingers clutched on the front of his shirt. “Mama?”
They left the room together, leaving the flurry of rainbow animals behind. He headed to their bedroom, taking a relatively thick book from the shelf before settling on the bed. She looked puzzled, glancing back at him and the book.
Anastacia rushed into headquarters, her feet jumping up the stairs. She didn’t mean to take long, but she had come across her mother in the middle of shopping as she was heading back. They had gotten into quite a conversation, losing track of time before she had been let go. She first came into the office, finding no one inside except for the colorful mess of toys.
Walking further down the hallway, she reached their shared room. This had been Ray’s room before, but they opted to come together, since she wanted to use her old room as Emma’s future place. Nudging the slightly opened door, she stopped to take in the sight that greeted her.
Ray had fallen asleep propped up against the headboard. In his arms was their sweet little Emma, snoozing just like her father.
Noticing the book on his lap, she carefully took it from him. Inside was a collection of polaroid photos full of their memories. She remembered when he had first given it to her before their wedding day, promising to each other that they would keep adding photos to fill it up.
An idea came to her. Placing the book on the nightstand, she took her instant camera from the drawer and snapped a photo of them.
“Ngh.. Anastacia..?” Ray gently stirred awake, his half lidded eyes looking at her.
“Sorry for waking you. I wanted to take a picture of the two of you together to add to our book.”
“Did you at least get my good side?” “What do you mean? Every side is your good side.” Anastacia smiled at him as she left the film in between the pages to let it develop, satisfied to be able to add another piece to their growing collection

Day 3: Spellbound [Ray Appreciation Week]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 642 words Warning: Smut! I warned you. Summary: She is magic incarnate. A/N: Day 3! A bit late (I guess that depends on your timezone??) but here it is! I somehow managed to make a smut out of this? Tagging @ikerev-appreciation
---
Their lips never parted as they stumbled through the door, blindly weaving their way through the familiar room. With a gentle nudge, he guided her down the bed, her auburn hair spilling over the sheets. Anastacia looked up at him with hazy eyes, her lips puffy from all of their kissing.
She reached up, running her hands through his messy hair and shoulders before sliding them in his shirt. He reached for one hand, taking it in his and peppered kisses on the inside of her wrist. Slowly, he made his way up her arm to her neck, encouraged by the sound of her delicate gasps.
It was like music to his ears and he wanted to hear more.
Ray nipped at a spot on her neck, his fingers undoing the buttons on her blouse. Roaming the newly exposed skin, his hands cupped her breasts, working her up until her nipples peaked and hardened. His kissed down her chest, taking a nipple in his mouth before playing with it using his tongue. Her body arched into him as he moved to give the same attention to her other breast.
The immediate protest he got when he pulled away made him chuckle. Such impatience in her voice.
Stripping off the rest of their clothes were easy. Settling himself between her thighs, he traced over her familiar dips and curves; the way her body trembled under him never ceased to amaze. It was enticing, almost teasing him--what more will you show me if I keep touching you?
One of his hands caressed her inner thigh, sliding up higher. He could sense her anticipation as he scattered kisses along her shoulder, stroking her clit with the length of his finger. Her breath hitched when he pressed down with just the right amount of pressure, making her grind her hips against his hand. Impatience won her over as she dragged her tongue up his neck before planting a kiss below his ear.
Two of his fingers slipped inside with relative ease, making her squirm against him. Anastacia wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a heated kiss. She moaned softly, squeezing around him as he stretched her. After a few thrusts, he added another finger, curling them to reach that sensitive spot. The way she called out to him was like a spell, urging him on.
Reaching out, she cupped his cheek as their eyes met--her golden gaze pleading, asking for him, wanting him just as much as he did for her. Who was he to deny his love such a request?
Ray gently pushed inside her, both of them moaning in pleasure. Tangling her fingers in his hair, she jerked her hips against him as he started to move. He slipped his arm underneath her knee, shifting his angle to thrust deeper. His thumb began to stroke her clit as she squeezed around him, crying out his name even louder.
It was intoxicating and he couldn’t get enough of her. No matter how many times they’d have each other, he would never have his fill of her. Craving, wanting, needing her. And she would always reciprocate and show him that she felt the same way.
He climbed the peak with her, taking her closer to the edge until she crashed in the waves. It gave him pride in knowing that he was the only one allowed to see this, the only one who could make her fall apart so beautifully. Anastacia held onto him, riding it out as he gave in to his own climax.
Even in the aftermath of their high, she was still as captivating as ever. The moonlight shined over her sleeping form as Ray gently tucked her hair away from her face. She is magic incarnate, he thinks, and he would willingly fall for her spell again and again.

Day 1: Trust [Ray Appreciation Week]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 1003 words Warning: None, unless you’re allergic to fluff. D: Summary: The best kind of trust is the kind that eases your fears. A/N: Ray Appreciation Week has officially started! Let’s show our beloved King of Spades how much we love and appreciate him.  I’ll also be using this prompt week to play around with my sunshine girl, so there’s that. Tagging @ikerev-appreciation !
---
It was a rare opportunity to arrange an outing if your lover was in the military. Of course, Anastacia had no problem with it--the bookshop and its influx of customers never failed to keep her preoccupied. So when Ray had asked her if she wanted to come to the beach with them for some needed fun and relaxation, her immediate response had been a squeal.
The morning sun wasn’t so bad. They had arrived early in hopes of getting back to headquarters by evening. Almost everyone had jumped in the ocean once everything had been set up, save for Sirius. She watched Fenrir and Luka play around, splashing some water at each other like little kids. Even their cheerful laughter was infectious as she smiled to herself.
“You should join them.”
She looked up at Ray as he took a seat beside her, who also had changed out of his uniform. “Maybe later.”
“Well, they still act childish, even in headquarters.” The exasperated tone on Sirius’ voice made her laugh. He sounded like a father exhausted of his children’s antics and mishaps. “No wonder they were eager to take the day off.”
“It’s been a while since everyone’s relaxed together.” The King replied, stretching his legs out in front of him. “It comes with the job. But keeping morale up is important too.”
“Anastacia!” Seth walked over to her, winking at her before heading to the waters. “You’re wasting that cute outfit of yours under the shade~”
“Seth!” She shouted at him, her cheeks turning red. Not that she wore anything too revealing underneath her wrap. It was just a modest two piece suit in a pretty shade of blue.
A comfortable silence settled between them under the parasol. The beach was nearly empty, save for them and a few other groups of townspeople that were a good distance away. It almost felt like they had the place to themselves.
Standing up, she approached the waters, walking along the shoreline. It felt cool and refreshing, the waves lapping by her feet. She bent down and started to collect seashells, small enough to fit in her palm.
“He’s right, you know.” Ray spoke up from behind her. “Don’t you want to go in the water?”
“Oh, I guess so..”
He tilted his head, catching the uncertainty in her voice. “What’s wrong?”
“Well, I’ve only gone to the beach once when I was a child, so I don’t really know how to swim.” Anastacia fiddled with the sand, a blush spreading on her cheeks from embarrassment. “...I’m scared I might drown.”
Was it a stupid idea to come with them even if she knew she couldn’t swim? She felt like an idiot for admitting it, but she couldn’t shake off the small worry every time she saw the seemingly endless depths. It was as if the ground would drag her down and swallow her up whole. The thought made her shudder.
“In that case, hold on to me.”
She looked up at him in surprise. “What?” “You trust me, right?” She nodded without a doubt. “So, hold on to me. I won’t let you drown.”
It seemed like a simple solution. The confident smile he wore gave her the courage to at least give it a try.
Anastacia removed her beach wrap, dumping the shells in it and left it on her spot underneath the parasol. leaving it on her spot. She took his hand in hers, following his lead as they walked further into the ocean. The waves played with her hair as she held onto his shoulders, focusing her attention on staying calm. Maybe she should have put her hair up before going in. She didn’t even notice that they were already floating on the water until he asked. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” She wrapped her arms around his neck, making sure she wasn’t obstructing his face. “Are you sure you want to be doing this with me?”
He turned around so they were face to face, holding her close to him. “Why not? I want you to have some fun too.”
“I always have fun when I’m with everybody. Especially with you.”
“Then there’s no need to worry, is there?”
It wasn’t so bad, now that she had him to guide her. The coral reefs below were beautiful, their bright colors enhanced by the sunlight. The water’s clarity made it easy to watch the marine life swimming about, moving along their daily business. She could probably touch them if she dipped her hands in. Her body started to relax as he leaned back, acting like a floatie for her, letting the current rock them back and forth.
He fiddled with the ends of her hair as he watched her. The look of wonder and amazement on her face was a sight that Ray never got tired of.
Their small bubble was interrupted by Seth, wading over to where they were. “Oh Anastacia, that looks like fun! I want to have a ride too!”
“Me too!” Fenrir seconded, raising his hand high up. “Can I go after Seth?”
“Sorry, this is a one time ride exclusively for her.” He spoke up, resting his arms on her lower back.
The two feigned a pout as she laughed at their reactions. It wasn’t long before Sirius called them all back, having prepared their lunch. Ray just resumed his rhythmic kicking, slowly drifting them to the shore.
“Sirius will scold us if we don’t go any faster.”
“Mn, I don’t mind. Let me just hold you a bit longer.”
Anastacia couldn’t argue with his logic. She nuzzled into him, feeling safe against his warmth. “Thanks for putting up with my stupid fear.”
“Trust that I’ll always be there for you. Even if you think your fear is stupid.” He replied just as they reached the shoreline. The two of them walked over to where the others were settled down, fingers intertwined with each other’s.
“I know.” She smiled, giving his hand a squeeze. “I always have.”

Good Night [Ray Blackwell]
Fandom: Ikemen Revolution Pairing: Ray Blackwell x Anastacia Stryvard (OC) Word Count: 579 words   Warning: None, just your general fluff Summary: There’s only one place she’d rather be in when a bad dream comes. A/N: Honestly the past month has been rough for me. I’m not going to go into the boring details of it, but I guess I just needed some self-indulgent drabble. Probably not the best debut fic for my sunshine girl, but yeah. Also if you missed my post about my girl, I’ve put a link as the content source (hopefully it works!).
---
The night was closing in as Ray stood up from his desk. He was doing some reading to help him relax before heading to bed, gazing at Belle by the corner, curled up on his own bed. Stretching his back, he heard a soft knock on his door before a familiar voice called out to him.
“Anastacia? Why are you still awake?”
She stood in the hallway, her blanket over her head as if protecting herself. It was almost midnight--he could tell by how sleepy he was getting--and she should be asleep as well. Judging by her look, she had been in bed before she came up to him. “Can I come in?”
He stepped back to give her some space, shutting the door as she sat on his bed. Her arms were around her shoulders, tugging the blanket off her body before deciding to crawl underneath his, settling down on one side. Ray followed after her shortly, making sure to open the curtains before turning off the crystal’s light.
Anastacia snuggled up to him as soon as he laid down. The moonlight shone over both of them, her hair spilling across his white sheets. He realized how pretty the sight was as he smoothed the waves down her back. “So, care to tell me what happened?”
“I had a nightmare where a giant shrimp and chicken leg was chasing me around the dining table.” she mumbled, her face nuzzled in the crook of his neck and wrapped her arms around him.
It was difficult to stifle his laughter, his shoulders shaking as he imagined the scenario. “What in the world were you doing before falling asleep?”
“It’s not my fault that I get weird dreams! Sometimes they just happen!”
Even if he couldn’t see her face, he was positive that she was already pouting. “So, my girl got scared because of giant foods chasing after her?”
“You don’t understand.” she looked up at him, the pout on her face making her extra adorable. “They were huge. Almost twice as tall as you.”
He just grinned at her, kissing her forehead before holding her close. This wasn’t the first time it happened. Sometimes Anastacia would wake him in the middle of the night, asking if she could stay with him. He’s gotten better at keeping himself awake during those episodes, making sure that she was asleep and comfortable before drifting off himself. The most effective technique he’s found through trial and error was by caressing her hair.
The groggy tone in her voice told him that it was working just fine. “You’re making me sleepy..”
“That’s the point, silly.” Ray gently ran his fingers through her hair, feeling her grip on his shirt starting to loosen.
“But the shrimp..”
He couldn’t help but chuckle under his breath. “He’ll have to deal with me before he chases you again.”
“Leg..?”
“Even the chicken leg.”
“Mn…” She pulled away enough to look up at him, her golden eyes barely focused as she moved to kiss him on the cheek.
