"A person who does not for the love of God and with a cheerful heart, acquit himself of whatever responsibility that may fall to his lot at any time - will find life excessively burdensome and never be able to accomplish anything. Man's duty - more especially for those who have made the Supreme Quest their one and only aim - is to work joyfully for the uplift of the world, with the conviction that all service is His service. Work done in such a spirit helps to purify both mind and heart."

If you cannot do anything else, at least morning and evening at the appointed time, lay down your body, mind and life before Him in salutation and surrender, and think of Him just a little.

A sannyāsi is he who ever dwells in the void (śūnya). One who has taken sannyāsa, yet all the time depends on others, is merely attempting to become a sannyāsi. A genuine sannyāsi is he who in God's Name has set his all afloat in the void.
So long as one harbours desires for home and family, for money and the things it buys, for bodily comforts and intellectual enjoyment, for fame, recognition and the like, it is far better to remain within the folds of the family.
There are only very few who can tread the path of complete renunciation.
Those who have gone forth into homelessness without having become utterly unselfish and are therefore unable to observe the prescribed rules of conduct of the sannyāsāśrama, will create all manners of complications.
To be a householder with the spirit of sannyāsa is indeed very praiseworthy. But the man who merely assumes the ochre robe without being a sannyāsi at heart becomes guilty of a serious wrong. Not only does he harm himself, his behaviour also is contrary to the ideal of the sacred order of sannyāsa.

As one moves away from worldly matters, so he/she moves closer to God. And then, only God remains, nothing else.

The obstinacy of the mind must be curbed with resoluteness.
Whether the mind co-operates or not, you must be adamant in your determination to do a certain amount of practice without fail - simply because spiritual discipline is man's real work.
For so long you have been accustomed to perform actions that fetter, therefore from sheer force of habit you feel the urge to bind yourself by activity again and again.
But if you try hard for some time, you will be able to see for yourself how you are caught in your work, and that the more you engage in practice the quicker will be your advance.
By constantly endeavouring to live a life of self-dedication, self-surrender will come about one day.
What does self-surrender mean, if not to surrender to one's very own Self!

"There is nothing in this universe that may be treated with disregard or contempt. He acts His Divine Play in infinite ways, through infinite forms and in an infinite variety of setting. Without appearing as the many, how can this Play be staged? Do you not see how light and darkness, joy and sorrow, fire and water, are irrevocably linked together in one unbroken chain?
Remember that spiritual endeavor must be coupled with purity of heart. To the extent that we harbor unkind or narrow thoughts, we increase the cause of evil in the world. What necessity is there to pay attention to what others have or have not? Far better be intent on your own improvement. If you can develop inner beauty, and enshrine Him, the ever-Beautiful, in the glorive beauty neverying, you wil then be able ~ Anandamayi Ma

"The endeavour to awaken to his real nature is man's duty as a human being."
"With earnestness, love and goodwill carry out life's everyday duties and try to elevate yourself step by step.
In all human activities let there be a live contact with the Divine and you will not have to leave off anything. Your work will then be done well and you will be on the right track to find the master."
"Just as a mother nourishes her child with all possible care and affection and makes him grow up into a healthy boy and a handsome youth, so you will find the subtle touches of the Divine Mother shaping your inner life and making you reach your full height and stature."
"Whatever work you have to do, do it with a singleness of purpose,
with all the simplicity, contentment and joy you are capable of.
Thus only will you be able to reap the best fruit of work.
In fullness of time, the dry leaves of life will naturally drop off and new ones shoot forth."

In truth, all the various ways of thought spring from one common source - who then is to be blamed, who to be reviled or suppressed?
All are equal in essence.

God Himself is indeed everywhere.
The entire world is His form. You see yourself separate from God, but God tells you to see Him in all forms.

"The root of all that we perceive is hidden within. We see the tree but we don't see the seed from which it came. However, when the tree is fully developed it again yields the same kind of seed.
When we look at the seed we see only the seed, yet infinite possibilities of development are contained within it. The One is contained in the infinite and the infinite in the one. When light is thrown on the inner world, the outer fades into insignificance. However, at that stage there is still differentiation between the inner and the outer. But there comes a state where there is no more inner and outer, but all is seen as One Whole."

In this world, do not become an owner, become a gardener. All problems occur when you become an owner. There are no fights if you can become a mere gardener. The world belongs to the Lord; I am only the servant, that is all. I will keep on serving according to His orders. If you can always live the life of a householder with this emotion, no new bonds will be forged. You are only experiencing the karmas for which you have taken birth (prarabdha). If one can live life always remembering this, where is the question of any fear? He will put everything right.
