Interior Design Ideas: Neutral Home

Hello, my friends! It’s wonderful to be back here with a new “Interior Design Ideas” post. Today, I will be featuring a beautiful home designed by the talented The LifeStyled Company (Recently featured on Home Bunch here: New Desert Home).

This home was certainly designed with family life in mind. Each and every room feels warm, inviting and unpretentious. As you browse this post, you will find a home that feels elegant with a neutral color scheme and ideas that should inspire and hopefully leave you feeling relaxed.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Connecticut Beach House

Hello my wonderful friends! How are you today? It’s great to be back with this new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” post especially because I am featuring such a talented and kind woman! Marcie, from @designsixtyfive, is a busy mom of two little boys, and, together with her husband, she managed to renovate and decorate this gorgeous Connecticut beach house.

I can’s stress enough for you to follow her on Instagram because she’s one of those rare people you meet and instantly feel connected to. Here, Marcie shares more details about her home:

“When we began planning for our home renovation, Home Bunch was one of my go-to sources for inspiration, so to be sharing our own home on this platform now is such an honor! I first started Design Sixty Five as a way to document our renovation for posterity, not thinking anyone would actually be interested in following along with the progress. A year later, I am truly amazed at how it taken on a life of its own and has become such a fulfilling creative outlet. It brings me so much joy to exchange ideas and inspiration with others and I couldn’t be happier to share our renovation experience here with you!”

“We bought this 1920’s colonial in 2012 (before having children) when it was only 1,300 square feet with 3 small bedrooms and 1 bathroom. After growing our family to include 2 kids and 2 dogs, we felt it was time for us to either expand or move. We fell in love with the location of this home, which is within walking distance of downtown as well as the beach, so we decided to renovate in order to make this home work for our family in the long term.”

Expanding your Dreams

“As part of the renovation, we essentially gutted the existing house, demolished an old detached garage and 3-season sunroom, and added on an attached garage, mudroom, kitchen, master suite and junior suite. While it might have been easier to demolish the entire house and start from scratch, we loved the original house and wanted to stay true to its history, charm and character. We replaced the windows, siding and roof and added architectural details to create interest and dimension while honoring the style of the original house. The newly renovated house is approximately 2,400 square feet and has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.”

“When winter rolls around, this becomes the hardest working little corner of our house! A few years ago, we added a small powder room to this corner, which allowed us to create a “mini-mudroom” on this wall using board & batten and some simple wall hooks.”

Timeless Coastal Vibes

“On the interior, we opened up walls and added windows wherever possible to create an open floorpan that is flooded with natural light. Given the home’s location, we wanted to achieve a subtle coastal aesthetic that is classic, yet fresh and organic. The decor is simple with timeless elements of natural wood and textures, plenty of white, live greenery, and hints of blue.”

Plank + Pillow’s Farmhouse Favorites

It’s 2019! For us, this new year means a new home. We’re planning on building, but many will be looking for a house to buy. If I had to guess a particular style that buyers will be seeking, it would be the modern farmhouse. It has quickly become one of the most popular house styles in the country, thanks to TV shows like Fixer Upper. In my opinion, there’s probably no better place to find a modern farmhouse than in the great state of Tennessee. Farmhouses and Tennessee simply belong together, like apple pie and vanilla ice cream! Our Tennessee modern farmhouse will be going on the market later this year. But since I can’t offer it to you at the moment, I’ve found three absolutely stunning farmhouses that I’m sure you would love to buy. If we weren’t building, I know I would love to buy one of them myself! When searching for a home, we always look for “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves.” For example, upscale kitchens and master baths are a couple of our priority must-haves. Let’s take a look at these three modern farmhouses, and see what they have to offer. New and Modern This brand new modern farmhouse in Franklin, TN has five bedrooms and five full baths. The designers and builders absolutely nailed the modern farmhouse aesthetic on the exterior! The crisp black windows against the clean white board and batten siding is a definite must-have when looking for a modern farmhouse. The black fence surrounding the property adds to the overall farm vibe and would be on my list of nice-to-haves. I love the open floor plan in this house. Having a seamless flow in the family room, kitchen, and dining area is a must-have for us. The large ten-foot island in the kitchen is certainly a focal point and can easily accommodate six bar stools. The extra seating would be very nice to have when hosting friends and family for dinner. This master bath definitely makes the must-have list! It has a huge walk-in shower, and I’m in love with the shiplap wainscoting surrounding the tub. Plus, the chevron pattern of the floor tile is a very nice touch, and I have to say that is an incredible view above the tub! Something Extra Special Here is another farmhouse in Franklin, TN, and this one is an absolute show stopper! Even though the exterior is painted shake as opposed to a more traditional farmhouse siding choice, this home exhibits the true essence of “modern farmhouse”, which for us is a must-have. I also love the galvanized metal roof on this house. Not many things say “farmhouse” more than a metal roof. Not only is the exterior of this house stunning, but so is the landscaping! Often times, landscaping is overlooked when house shopping, but it is certainly nice to have beautiful flowers, shrubs, and trees surrounding your new house when you move in. Now, this is a gourmet kitchen! Waterfall marble countertop, high-end appliances, and even a built-in espresso maker. There’s no question that modern farmhouse is the most popular home style and this type of home is being built from coast to coast, even reaching and changing many quaint streets of beach towns in California. Built by Graystone Custom Builders, Inc. (they created and provided all of the interior details associated with the home, including cabinetry, wall treatment, flooring, etc), interior design by Blackband Design (they worked their magic with furniture, textiles and window coverings) and architecture by Teale Architecture, this home offers all “modern farmhouse must-haves”, such as shiplap (and lots of it!), white oak plank hardwood floors, black windows, board and batten siding, painted brick, reclaimed barn wood, barn doors, barn lights and comfy decor that, although beautiful, is far from being stuffy.

“A local family with three college-age daughters built their dream home in Corona del Mar, and we had the pleasure of furnishing it! The build is a classic Graystone Custom Builders; clean, coastal style with splashes of fun tiles and finishes. We continued this balance of aesthetics bringing in staples such as neutral linen sofas and reclaimed furnishings while incorporating eclectic patterns and earthy-tone accents. The master bedroom is a serene retreat with a slipcovered bed and bathroom full of amenities, and the three daughters’ rooms with attached bathrooms each reflect their individual personalities. With the limitations of a tight lot in the renowned flower streets, we maximized the space for entertaining keeping an open floor plan on the main living level and including multiple seating arrangements that span the length of the rooftop deck (there’s even an elevator to get you there!). Interior Design Ideas: New Home Inspiration

Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you today? I am truly happy to start slowing down this week and start my kids’ back-to-school shopping. Doing it for three kids isn’t an easy task, but I will try to have some fun. Now, let’s focus on this new “Interior Design Ideas”.

Built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by the talented Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!), here, here, here, here, here & here), this beautiful home is an east coast inspired home located in Western Springs, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago. The home’s exterior commands attention with it’s stately tower topped with X details on the windows. Inside the tower is a three story floating staircase that has a marvelous view of the chandelier above. When you enter the front door, a long hallway lined with mercury glass lanterns leads you to the open concept kitchen and family room where a built-in banquette steals the show because of its leaded glass windows.

Florida Beach Cottage

This is a post you want to save and come back to anytime when things are feeling a little blue, because I can almost guarantee that this home will leave you feeling a little lighter and much happier.

To say that I love this designer’s work is an understatement. She design homes that are tailored without losing their soul. In another words, she design interiors that are meant to be lived in and not just looked at.

Lisa Peterson, interior designer and co-owner of Pineapples, Palms, Etc. has always dreamed of living in a comfortable, relaxed, Florida Cracker style cottage, with views and breezes from the water that create her “Barefoot Dream” lifestyle. Peterson and her husband were fascinated by the “Old Florida” appeal of Hobe Sound. The unincorporated village, adjacent to Jupiter Island, is a little slice of heaven. Covered with Banyan trees, the neighborhood they chose to build their home was laden with history. The lot next door housed an Ice House in the late 1800’s and the stretch of Intracoastal waterway in front of the home was once the site of a ferry landing for boats to carry perspective land buyers to Jupiter Island.

“Cottage on Cabot” was built with the true Florida Cracker architecture of the past, and blends perfectly with its historic surroundings. Cracker architecture was used widely in the 19th century in Florida. Florida cracker homes are characterized by metal roofs, wrap around porches, long and straight central hallways from the front to the back of the home. Peterson loved this concept so she incorporated many windows and doors that open onto the large deck, allowing the constant ocean breeze to fill the house.

Pineapples, Palms, Etc., is a popular retail and interior design store in Jupiter, just 15 minutes away from the home, and is known for its crisp, modern coastal style, with a unique brand of casual elegance. The sisters opened the store in 2001, and it remains in the same location today, providing interior design services to locals, as well as many professional athletes and celebrities that reside in the area. Peterson took the vibe from the store, which is loaded with one-of-a-kind pieces and comfortable, slipcovered furniture and infused Cottage on Cabot with a similar energy. The result is open, airy and inviting.

You start falling in love with this beach cottage the moment you see this custom-crafted white gate and arbor with a circular design. How enchanting!

A New Path

The stone pathway is Key West Coral stone.

Home-Sweet-Home

Lisa’s main goal of this home was to achieve a home that fit the Old Florida neighborhood it sits in. She wanted it to look as though it could have been built 60+ years ago. As for the interior, she wanted something relaxing and tranquil that felt fresh and clean.

Architectural Style: Low Country, Florida Cracker.

I might be wrong, but I am starting to think that you can’t be a minimalist if you really like the farmhouse style. To truly achieve this welcoming look, you will want to layer your home with plenty of textures and fill each every room with character, personality and your special touch. This is what really makes the farmhouse style so appealing to many – the fact that you can stamp your own personality and create a home that reflects who you are and how you like to live.

“We are James and Kaycie Chiampi we have been married for 15 years and have 5 kids. We built our home about 4 years ago when we moved from our home town of Newport Beach CA to Salt Lake City UT.

Dining Room

Dining room table was built by the homeowner’s husband.

Chandelier is Troy Lighting.

Paint Color

All the walls in our home except the bedrooms are Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

We did a fun project and built a DIY wood beam in the space between the kitchen and living room to define each space wile still keeping with the flow of our open floor plan. It’s one of my favorite projects and I have a tutorial on my blog.

Decor

White grommet top curtains from IKEA.

Rugs: Metallic Cowhide Rug & Sisal Rug – similar.

Fireplace

The living room also has one of my favorite features and that’s our floor to ceiling stone fireplace. When we built our home the builder put in our fireplace but stopped the stone at the mantle. I always felt it was incomplete so my husband and I continued the stone to the ceiling and now it’s the focal point of the room! We also added a shiplap wall behind our tv.

Playhouse Bunkbed

In my youngest son’s room we built him a playhouse bed and it’s so fun!! He helped us pick out what he wanted it to look like and we built it.

Paint Color

The back wall is painted Dover Grey by Olympic and the other walls are Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

Twin Boys Bedroom Design

In my twins room we put up board and batten at 5’ tall all around the room and painted the top portion of the wall Icy Avalanche by Valspar. Their beds my husband and I built out of reclaimed wood.

Grid Board and Batten & Peonies

In my younger daughter’s room we did a fun wood wall behind her bed making squares out of strips of MDF then we painted it Icy Avalanche by Valspar. The rest of her room is painted Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore. We also added Peonies wall decals around her window to bring in that feminine touch and add some pops of pink.

Ceiling Fan: Hunter Ronan 52 in. LED Indoor Fresh White Ceiling Fan.

Teen Bedroom

Downstairs we have our oldest daughters room and it is paint Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore. The headboard we built as well from reclaimed wood. We then made some brackets out of pipe and attached them to the headboard to hold the cage lights hanging on each side.

Master Bedroom

In the master we did a shiplap wall behind the bed.

Paint Color

The rest of the walls Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

Master Bathroom

In the master bathroom we painted the walls Dover Grey by Olympic. Our cabinets and countertops in the bathroom are the same as in our kitchen.

Backyard

Off the sliding doors that lead to our backyard we built a redwood deck. We created a fun dining area on here where we love to eat dinner in the summer time!

In our backyard we have created a few fun areas. The first one is our sitting area under our metal gazebo.

Here, the designer explains more details about this coastal farmhouse with fresh home decor ideas: “The inspiration behind our Timber Trails Beach House was thinking about when it was going to hit the market. It was built as a spec house that we knew would hit the market in February. February in Chicago is pretty dreary and everyone seems to be looking forward to spring break. I kept seeing the hanging chairs from Serena and Lily coming through my IG feed and I was inspired to build a house that would be worthy of those cool chairs. The beach house was underway!”

“Once the ceiling detail of shiplap and white beams went up, I instantly thought we needed a basket type color up there. The light fixtures were the perfect beachy choice to really draw your eye up. “I selected this wallpaper after all the colors were selected. It just happened to have the PERFECT shades to tie the whole house together. Every contractor that entered the house was sure to tell me how much they loved the wallpaper. That never happens as they usually have a lot of opinions about choices like that. I could not have been more thrilled the day it went up. The whole house was tied together. I think people underestimate the power of wallpaper. When we solidified the beach theme the color I choose for the island and shelves was the next decision. The color is actually far darker and more grey in person than in the photos. I based the color of the island on the tile I chose for the fireplace.” – Julie Howard.

This powder room deserves a pin! Isn’t it gorgeous? It features shiplap wainscoting and a custom floating vanity made out of reclaimed wood.

This newly-built home is easy to love. A beautiful modern farmhouse that superbly highlights all the best parts of this style. Fresh rustic, comfortable modern, and clean lines with a twist. Southern-inspired Modern Farmhouse

Recently built by Mike Stevens Homes, this corner lot Southern-inspired modern farmhouse exudes curb-appeal and many inspiring design ideas.

Here, the builder shares more details about this project:

“This home was one of our favorites of the past few years and was one of our Parade Houses for 2018. The customers came to us with a definite style in mind and some great inspiration photos, but it was our job, as a design/build company, to take their ideas and turn them into a reality. Their style oozed Southern Charm and we all worked hard to connect the inside and outside of the home. The 2 story porches offer amazing views of the Smoky Mountains and will also overlook a pool we designed for them (that they will add at a later date). Our staff architect did an incredible job finalizing their house plans, but we also had the chance to work with a local interior designer, Paige Stephens. She did an amazing job, working with our staff decorator, to get us decisions when we needed them, but also helping guide the customer through the selection process. She really helped our customer zoom in on their style and pick finishes that seamlessly tied the entire home together. She helped them blend unique details from their lives into custom features in the home with a story behind them. In addition to making house related decisions, she also worked with our customers to furnish the home with furniture and decorations that were in a large part locally sourced. As we mentioned previously, this really was a fun project where we got to really know the family, design the perfect homeplan with them, work with a great local interior designer and decor stylist,and work together throughout the entire build process to build a unique beautiful home. We are so happy with the results.”
