#people who complain about about the subject matter of books being too graphic drive me insane#like bro just don’t read the book???#and some people got the audacity to complain about and it not even read it#an example is lolita by Vladimir nobakov#people get soooo mad with the book but admit they never read it#like immediately ur argument is invalid based on that premise alone!!!#all I’m sayin is people should consider critically thinking before forming some opinion without basis#ur prone to things like propaganda if it persists#group think at its finest#but that’s a whole different rant

I saw the Carrie post, I'll bite. Vladmir Nobakov?
Mostly I'm just frustrated with people citing Lolita as a perfect example of "normalizing pedophilia" when Vladimir Nabokov:
Literally says in the text of "Lolita" that Humbert Humbert is a villain and a bad dude
Did his level best to be clear OUTSIDE the text that Dolores was a child who shouldn't have been sexualized and demanded that they not put pictures of girls on the cover (his wishes were ignored)
In all likelihood underwent a personal trauma relating to the subject matter in Lolita
People read Lolita in terrible faith and it just bums me out tbh because Nabokov was a brilliant author that in no way was trying to sexualize children
