reblog bait (ex. "reblog this or something terrible will happen to your loved one" or "reblog this otherwise you're a heartless bigot") is infinitely more annoying than an empty blog with a default avatar.

Hiii! I'm just here to say hi! I love your fake peppino stuff it looks delicious.. You're one of my first follows if I remember correctly. I came to tumblr because Twitter was severely lacking in fake peppino content and this place had like so much.
not a question! but thank you!
twitter algorithms suppressing the strange and charismatic little guys as always 😤

Just a reminder that if you have an empty blog, and don't post or reblog anything, you come off like a bot and will get blocked (by a lot of blogs, not just me).
*I block any blogs that remain empty and seemingly unused after 1-2 weeks after they follow (so you have time to personalize if you just made your account)
Please personalize your blogs, reblog stuff, or make posts. Add a bio or something that shows you are a real person.
It says it in my blog intro as well:
*If you have the default profile pic, no bio and don't reblog or make posts, you look like a bot/spam account and will get blocked. Please PERSONALIZE your blogs.

I've noticed that I'm getting followed by blogs with a pretty girl as their icon but the blog is still empty. And like the pretty girl isn't half naked like porn bots used to have.
So idk if the bots are getting more tricky to pick out or if I'm just being followed by simps

had some new followers the last few days so i just want to say — please personalise your blog and include your age or an 18+ indicator! the default avatar & no title/bio makes you look like a bot and is an almost certain way to get blocked by myself and most other writers!

personally, when i get a follower with no title, the default icon, and an empty blog, i'm MORE inclined to believe they're a real person than i would if they had a generic sexy lady as an icon instead

Okay are the few empty blogs that started following my blog today bots or not... If you're genuine people I suggest making some tweaks to your bio, otherwise I might block you. And it's nothing personal, that's how it is on tumblr unfortunately. Fighting against the bots every day.

okay look i see where op is coming from, HOWEVER i dont think this is what's happening? there are 472 million users on tumblr - the odds of having your blog recommended to someone are TINY. And while it's possible that it could happen once, most of us have been getting at least 5 bots just in the past month/weeks, and that's way too big of a coincidence (then again it's one in 472 million!!!)
It could be that tumblr has a set of blogs to recommend to newcomers (which honestly is the safe route given that there are some nasty blogs on this site), but then again this has been happening to too many tumblr users, not just popular ones
But also even if they were new users who had to follow people after creating a blog… they can still change their avatar and header after that, or, y'know, reblog something. But these new blogs are consistently empty even many hours after being created so either all new users are consistently really boring people or they are bots
This is why if you're a new user you MUST change your avatar/header, add a little description or reblog something. it's genuinely not that hard to add something to your blog that proves that you're not a bot and it will help both you and the people you're following (trying to play detective to find out if a new follower is a bot or not is a hassle). Also as some people in the replies have pointed out, not blocking bots can be dangerous so most of us are not going to take the risk and simply block any empty blogs just in case
Just add something to your blog to prove you're not a bot if you dont want to get blocked, it really is that simple
fun fact!! it turns out that now when u make a new blog, tumblr forces you to follow 3-4 people before you can change your icon or modify your blog in any way!! this, of course, means that, yes, some of the "potential bots" many of us have been automatically blocking could have possibly been genuine new users who were only just seconds in to having an account!!! tumblr is literally screwing new users over!!!!
