Fluff ABCs Template here for requests
Body -- What is his favorite part of her body?
Do y’all have any idea how hard it is for me to answer this letter without making this horny hours.
ANYWAY losing my mind because my instinct was to respond with “her tears.” And then my brain was like. Minnie that’s not a part of the body…that’s not how any of this works…But let’s pretend for a moment like I am valid, shall we?
No cap, I die on this hill. And my answer comes in two parts. The first reason tears destroy him like nothing else is because of how much she feels for the van Gogh brothers tbh. I think Theodorus is very accustomed to their situation being seen through a lens of indifference, a kind of “oh well, what can be done ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” especially. While he may argue that he’s used to it, he’s full of shit. It hurts every time–even more so because people are being dismissive about the person he loves most in the world (other than her, of course.) He’ll be silent for the most part, usually pretty stoic if those things come up, but the way her eyes glisten with tears just undoes him. He feels stupid to be so affected, but it’s something else entirely when somebody actually gives a damn. Somehow it's harder to keep his composure under that gaze...
The second reason is more about teasing. He can’t resist getting a reaction out of her sometimes, or seeing her brought to frustrated tears. That lovely blush overtaking the tips of her ears and face, to say nothing if it happens during nsfw hours. They make her face shine, a visible manifestation of all the emotion he tries so hard to deny–to run from–that it just moves him like nothing else. Where he can't find words or proper expression, she always does. Leonardo said once that a single glance at that man and you can tell he’s in love with art. And he was right, save that that kind of passion can be found in him again in moments like this. Alone, driving her to madness and pleasure.
It’s the part of him that belongs to her, and her alone.
Injury -- How would he act if she got hurt?
Lmao call Vincent instead of Theo if you actually want anything productive to be done about it.
I’m KIDDING mostly but to be honest I think he has a hard time hiding his distress when MC is hurt. If it’s something small he’ll try to play it off as mild irritation, muttering about oblivious hondjes and how she needs to be more careful. If it’s something like a bruise or a bandaged cut–maybe she bumped into something–he’ll just clumsily try to pat the pain away. Don’t try to hide it from him either because he has eyes like a hawk and will expose you. He’ll be a dumdum but it’s really sweet because he’ll be so gentle over such a tiny wound (it always amuses Dazai so much) that all the men will have to kind of hold back laughter. They don’t mean to mock the guy but he takes it so seriously it’s a little bit funny. Vincent is so unironically proud of him for being sensitive though and it’s enough to make a girl cry TwT
If it’s a very serious injury I am sorry but you are getting nothing but probably a panic attack from him. He doesn’t really do well with even the slightest suggestion of losing a loved one, so if she breaks a bone or experiences excessive bleeding–whatever the risk may be to her life–he is fighting to stay in control of his body’s response. He’s trying so hard to be strong for her, but he can hardly breathe and his vision is a little fuzzy and did they say she would be unconscious for a few days? Needless to say he’s a bit of a mess. Ideally, Vincent would do his best to help the guy stabilize while he waits for things to improve, but it’s touch and go for a bit there.
When she wakes up, he needs as much gentleness as she does in many respects. The stress attacks and constant distress have just resulted in so much tension and exhaustion, he doesn’t even have the energy for any verbal swipes at anyone. (I was going to say “he’s just a big puppy” but the irony hit me so hard I literally couldn’t finish typing the sentence). He just really needs lots of kisses and hand holds and promises she isn’t going anywhere, completely unprompted. Not to be emo (WAKE ME UP) but he really needs to be brought back to life slowly, in a way. He’ll get better with some time and assurance that she’s going to make it, but oTL hondje please, he can only take so many heart attacks in one lifetime.
Love -- How does he show her he loves her?
He does not.
I’m KIDDING but I stand by the fact that he’s more of a show than tell type of guy. He has a really, really hard time verbalizing everything that he feels, so I think the person he loves would ideally have to keep that in mind. He’s lowkey but very classy, imo. Gets surprise flowers every once in a while, buys groceries after work all the time if she needs things at home, always reliable with taking care of their finances (and in general). I feel like the thing about Theodorus is that he’s the quiet romantic; he won’t smooth talk or endlessly go on about love, but when she needs him? He’s there. Come hell or high water. When things are hard, when things feel impossible, when life just feels like one slap in the face after another–he’s warm and there and steady, leading her by the hand.
He's very proactive about just about anything other than expressing his feelings directly, so write that down--
Upset --How does he act when she's upset?
LMFAO catch him crashing at Vincent’s place tonight, no thanks murderous hondje ain’t it for me, sorry sweaty.
All jokes aside, I think he’s the type of guy who just has no idea how to handle it. I mean she’s the one that’s usually pretty stable emotionally, so when she isn’t it tends to be a big deal–the cause of her foul mood has got to be sizable. While he may be stymied upfront, will most likely go after the root cause of her distress and kill it with a hammer when her back is turned. Nobody upsets his hondje (unless it’s him) and gets away with it. The man has two modes: kill and more kill, and so he uses the second one as necessary in these situations.
That being said, it doesn't mean he's completely bereft of sensitivity. If it's a more sorrowful kind of upset, he'll try to make time for a lot of cuddling and pampering. Get her things she likes to eat/drink, rub her back gently, put on a movie she likes (even if it's boring to him). He hopes that some care and a few little distractions will be enough to calm her soon. He loves his hondje best when she's smiling, after all ùwú
Vaunt -- What is he proud of? Does he like to show her off?
Oh my goddddddd. Bih. If this man suffers from a cardinal sin, it’s pride I swear. Even if he’s Mr. Bad Mood Stink Face he will literally never say a bad word about her. There are so many people convinced he’s deadass got some kind of disorder because he has scary face, but also looks so delighted at the same time it's terrifying. Gets all puffed up about what a hard worker she is, how talented, how he couldn’t have done any of this without her. Even when he’s roaring drunk, now he just rambles on and cries about how much he loves her and Vincent and it’s beyond hilarious. Would throw down for her, would die for her, would steal a clown’s balloon for her–you name it.
She can do absolutely no wrong, so write that down.
Has a love hate relationship with showing her off (in the more blatant way) though because. Homewrecking. Does she look lovely in that dress? Undoubtedly so. If he sees one more gross lustful/covetous gaze directed at her though, he’s just gonna leave with her in tow. (He would throw hands but she doesn't like that.) Y’all know the whole Lord of The Rings’ “My p r e c i o u s” thing? That’s his vibe LMFAO. Depending on his mood he will either be like "hell yeah that's my wife you jealous bih, I'm the luckiest guy ever ik now buzz off" or he will just get more and more lowkey steamed until they leave.

Bad Batch Analysis prt2
Welcome back everyone to part 2 to my Bad Batch analysis trailers. The trailer just happened to be posted around midnight and my wifi went out in the morning so I couldn’t really do much until now. Since we got another AMAZING trailer for the Bad Batch series I believe it’s time to do another analysis. If you haven’t read my first analysis from the first trailer you can read it here
Without further ado let's get started.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first scene we get from the trailer is a shot after that one shot we got from the first trailer. This could probably be around the time they landed on Kamino because if you look in the top right corner there is the Havoc Marauder.
Training Sequence
Tumblr media
Next we see one of the many training grounds on Kamino. It’s strange seeing only one training ground and not multiple. It seems like this specific training ground might be underwater, as there is this long pole in the center with surrounding lights around it. Now that might be a reach, but honestly where could you see that training ground on the round houses above the ocean.
Along with that in the Legends there was a Kaminoan Jedi who lived under the sea to try to prevent the vision she had. (the vision was the clone army betraying the Jedi) So it could be possible when the Kamioan’s were building the floating city they builded the bottom levels to be used as training grounds or something.
Tumblr media
In this scene we can see that Echo is using a vibroblade. Now is this Echo’s own vibroblade or does this belong to Hunter and Echo just picked it up to destroy one of the droids?
Tumblr media
I feel like this shot can tell us a lot about the bad batch and how they interact with each other. Hunter and Crosshair are looking at the camera to which I can probably assume where Tarkin speaks to them. Echo lightly turns towards the direction of Tech, Hunter, and Crosshair. Tarkin probably said something that would make Echo turn to look at the three of them.
Also Tech although very subtle looks at the ground. Now this could be two things, if Tarkin said something then it might be tech looking at the ground like a Child does when their parents scolds them. Or it might be Tech is exhausted and is looking at the destroyed droids all around him.
Tumblr media
Hunter is seen talking to someone (probably Omega) telling them that their squad (aka the Bad Batch) is nothing but trouble. We can see Crosshair and Tech walk to a door which I can assume to be their barracks for the time being (before they escape).
Tumblr media
I really like this scene from Crosshair. This seemed to show how well the Bad Batch worked together. Hunter throws his knife in the air and Crosshair goes and shoots it in place. Which might make it even more sad if Crosshair betrays the Bad Batch. Imagine this, The bad batch is in this certain situation where a duo between Crosshair and Hunter would work. Hunter turns to where Crosshair would normally be.
“Cross lets-”
All he sees no one, and the feeling of betrayal and pain seeps through him.
“Right…”
Hunter Civilian Clothing
Tumblr media
So we see Hunter in Civilian clothes which is like. UGH please let me hold your hand Hunter. The first time we see them is at 0:31 where Hunter steals a speeder, probably to catch up to Fennec as we can see in 1:39 who has a kid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get a better look at Hunter’s Civilian clothes, it really reminds me of Cut lawquane’s outfit from The Clone Wars Season 2 “The Deserters”. Maybe we might see Cut lawquane in the Bad Batch, if so I think that would be really great to see. Cut’s children with Omega might be the cutest thing we might get from Bad Batch, that’s if it happens.
Tumblr media
Now in this scene we see Tech piloting the ship, but if you look at the corner there is Hunter on a control panel with bandages wrapped around him. So this might be either Hunter getting injured from a mission (maybe from Fennec Shand??)
Tumblr media
This kid (not Omega) is dangling onto a cylindrical object. The Following scene with Hunter and the kid following a speeder that belongs to Fennec Shand.
The Final Part of the Clone Wars
Tumblr media
At 0:37 we see the Batchers coming down from what seems to be like a hill destroying B1 battle droids. While the next shot is Tech and Echo shooting down said droids.
Tumblr media
So in my previous analysis I mentioned how for one the explosions I was wondering if it was the Batchers or the Empire. Now with this new Trailer it seems to be leaning more towards the Batchers doing this.
Tumblr media
We see Hunter putting away his knife with Wrecker carrying what seems like to be a destroyed droid.
Now I mentioned in my previous analysis that the snowy planet might be a Crosshair arc. But now with these new scenes with the snowy planet it might be a set up to Crosshair being something that most Bad Batch Stans don’t want.
Crosshair as the traitor
So I know I talked about this in my last trailer analysis and I said this was very unlikely. But uhhhh now with this trailer I'm 70% sure Crosshair will betray the Bad Batch. Now the reason why I said Crosshair wouldn’t betray the Bad Batch was because the Purge trooper and Crosshair just didn’t have things that lined up. But now with this new trailer I am pretty worried for our boy Crosshair.
Tumblr media
This is the ONLY scene we get of Omega and Crosshair together. Any other scenes with Omega and the Bad Batch Crosshair is nowhere in sight.
I literally called this when I wrote about my predictions about the Bad Batch series. Where I wrote two paths. One where Crosshair was not the traitor and stays with the bad batch and one if Crosshair was the traitor (I censor the right since it had my actual name since I did the bad batch analysis during school)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And 1:19 seems to likely prove my Crosshair is the traitor snippet I did. All the batchers + omega are running through what seems to be like the late night halls of Kamino. Who knew Echo would be following his brother’s footsteps.
Tumblr media
Again Crosshair isn’t here
… or maybe he might be hiding him behind Hunter to give us anxiety about what happened to Crosshair. But if Crosshair is gone then they need a new sniper to fill in his role...
Omega
Tumblr media
We are first introduced to a new character who is called “omega”.  Now who is Omega? Well we don’t know this is the first we EVER got to see them anywhere. Now when I first saw Omega I immediately thought of Satine’s Mandalore. We are not talking about the houses and clans (like house Wren). We’re talking about Satine’s Mandalorians (the pacifist) in which when we see her people in the clone wars they are normally pale with light colored eyes. Omega almost fits that but without the bright blue eyes. Another thing is that Omega kinda sounds like they have a Satine Mandalorian accent. As I was listening to Omega speak I was comparing it to Korkie and his friends and Omega lowkey sounds like Korkie’s friends but that’s probably a really big reach.
Tumblr media
This is where I think if Crosshair betrays the Bad Batch this is where Omega would come in and take Crosshair’s role as sniper. We don’t know how good Omega is but with Hunter’s heightened sense his sight might be just as good to teach Omega to work with a bow and arrow
The Explosion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we have an explanation for the explosion we saw in the last trailer. It was definitely the bad batch and now we know it was part of the thrusters from a broken Venator Star Destroyer. Since now we got more context to that explosion, I believe that this will be on Bracca where maybe MAYBE we might see a young ginger Cal Kestis.
Rex
Tumblr media
*breaths in*
REX I MISSED YOU SO MUCH
I’m so happy Rex and Echo are going to a reunion. I really hope Rex and Echo have a moment where Rex completely vents to Echo about everything that happened. Like Umbara, how much Five’s death took a toll on him, and when he left Jesse and his brothers during order 66. It would be really interesting to see if Rex has some sort of survivor's guilt. I know we see a little bit in Season 7 when he’s talking to Cody about the Domino squad but after order 66 I think it would be nice to dwell onto a little more.
Another thing I really hope we get to see how Rex meets up with Wolffe and Gregor.
AT-ET Walker
Tumblr media
We get a couple of scenes here of the AT-ET but here look at this. The republic symbol and the red paint is completely removed, it’s completely bare (which is so boring). Another thing is that the AT-ET are completely cutting across a group of people, these could be protestors of something that we yet not know of.
Tumblr media
It seems like Hunter and Tech snuck into and AT-ET, now the next scene we get is an AT-ET blowing up another AT-ET. There are two possibilities on who shot at the AT-ET, one could be the Bad Batch themselves shooting at the other AT-ET or two it could be the Empire shooting at the Bad Batch stolen AT-ET
Saw Gerra
Tumblr media
It’s really nice to see Saw Gerra, we have seen him in 5 star wars projects (Clone wars, Rogue one, Rebels, Jedi Fallen Order, and now Bad Batch). Since this is the beginning of the Empire we get that small time between Clone wars and Jedi: Fallen Order to see what Saw was up to.
Fennec Shand
My wifey, I love her so much. But I did get something wrong and right with Fennec Shand in my last analysis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of all the explosion we see with Fennec Shand is NOT connected to the factory arc but instead connected to Hunter saving the kid.
Tumblr media
But the thing I did get right was that one scene where Fennec was holding a gun out. That fog is from a fight and Fennec and her opponent are at a standstill.
Tumblr media
One thing new about Fennec is that she had a Kid dangling off her speeder. First of all that’s not safe at all and 2 why does Fennec have a Kid with her and then why does Hunter have the child in the next scene?
Small theory but this kid might be just like Omega that escaped. Fennec is sent out to retrieve the kid but Hunter is like “not on my watch” and takes the kid. Fennec looks shocked that Hunter interferes with her job and looks ANGY.
Or this kid might be just some random kid that Fennec took.
Now a recurring segment called Cool things I saw on the Trailer
Tumblr media
Just any scenes from the training scene with Wrecker is just cool and I’m like yes sir go off.
Tumblr media
I swear every scene with Wrecker is a joy to see. He just brightens my day all the time
Tumblr media
Bad Batch are taking notes from Waxer and Boil about adopting kids during war times.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This segment was short due to most of the trailer being analyzed and not much random spread out scenes.
And that’s that! Thank you all who read this far, I hope I was able to make this clear enough for you all to understand. If there’s anything else you saw in the Trailer that I miss I would love for you to comment about it! I think i’m going to do a countdown for Bad Batch, idk let’s see how I keep this up.

Live Watch: Guardian  Episode One, Part One
It's Guardian!  The show that got me interested in this genre!  I love spooky things and I love mysteries and fantasy!  I simply adore it so much!  When I can't sleep I just put on a playlist of Guardian in the background.  I was aware of censorship before - every country has some version of it, but to some degree this was my first deep dive into how it might effect a piece of media.  Guardian is exceptionally acted and incredibly written, as well as suffering from obvious dubs where the dubbing voice actor sounds nothing like the previous actor and odd cuts that are disrupted.  In some ways it's the little drama that could fighting its way past their studio going bankrupt while they were filming, reshoots, and being taken down and altered several times.
In some ways Guardian's struggle fits the spirit and aesthetic of the show. Worn in like an old pair of jeans but still making an effort.  Putting emphasis where things count and hoping the kindness of the universe will make allowances for the rest.  Attention to detail where the story really matters.  It has the charm of a community production put on out of love with actors and crew who would not be anywhere else in the world for any amount of money.  That feeling of love comes through, and whether or not I'm barely literate I have so many words to share.
Part of why I love it as well is it has that feeling of 80s and 90s fantasy, like Moomin, Xena or Condor Heroes. Everything feels lived in, nothing's been spit shined except for Shen Wei's suits. It's an old city street of a show, it has history and character built in.
*After all that I don't know that I have a tonne to say about the intro.  It's very good but it's also full of spoilers.  I think having the intro song be in English does make a difference in making it appealing to English speaking audiences as well as standing out as different and interesting, which the show is. Speaking of Spoilers!  Spoilers below!
* The obligatory beginning narration is beautifully animated, I have another post that will be done some time before the heat-death of the universe talking about the fascinating world building options.  Unlike some Make It SciFi plots, this one has legs and implications.
* Remakes rarely are able to meet the original on equal ground - and I struggle to believe the actors would Fit as well - but part of me really wants to have a chance to have the Dixingren worldbuilding really leaned into.  The writing is good enough we get implication but no real follow through.  I want fifty episodes of how Dixing functions, give me more pseudo-science behind the mutations, what are the biological differences.  I'm hungry for more!
* I love the cameos of later characters, and the way there was some effort to be discrete with spoilers.
* It's Ya Boy!  I love Shen Wei.  With that music cue and that sinister turn around they really set him up as dubious.  I wish they went with something a little different with the intro so his character wasn't spoiled.  The writing, directing, and acting was so good and spoiling who Shen Wei is kind of took the teeth out of that.
* Also cheers to the costume designer who outfitted Zhu Yilong so well and made him look jacked with the fit of those clothes.
* Also you can tell this is a real university because the staff has to sit in tiny student chairs.  I'm not joking, please be warned if you're going into academia.  Unless you have tenure life is An Adventure - and even then.
* Also shout out to Shen Wei's Prized Cabbage and the Queen of our hearts, Li Qian.  Why is this actress not in more things?  She has such an expressive and lovely face and she really goes all the way in with her acting.  I respect an artist that acts from their chest. Also that windbreaker, white skirt combo is chic and fun all at once, it draws the eye and makes her melt into the background all at once - perfect for the character.  I love her so much.
* Here's another one of Shen Wei's coats, it's a lovely color for him but it also is so thin that it looks like it crinkled up just from being worn.
* I'm being distracted by details and missing plot stuff.
* Story of my life.
* I love Li Qian hovering along behind Shen Wei like a duckling following their mother.  A) Mood and B) it quietly informs their dynamic.  Shen Wei has like one person he can trust but no one he can really confide in and it's the same for Li Qian. A ship will find a port in a storm and Shen Wei has Big Da-ge Energy. My fanfic heart hopes they found comfort in the pseudo familial relationship with each other while it lasted.
* Even in episode one we receive foreshadowing, we love and respect some excellent writing.  For those of you who missed it - Professor Ouyang is talking about Lin Jing who I love partially because he's so outrageous large but has the total opposite of intimidating energy.
* What did they feed you Lin Jing? He is so tall and wide, but they do a lot with camera work to try to make him not quite as big.  Side note, I would really love to see the actor who plays Lin Jing (Liu Minting) both in more dramas but more specifically in a role where he was like a minister or scholar - someone intellectual.  I think the combination of being such a big gentleman and also someone who like plots or plans would be really dynamic if it was written well.
* Also I like the exchange where without a word Professor Ouyang indicates he has one last thing to say, it's private and that he would like Shen Wei to ask Li Qian to leave. That's What You Can Do With Good Actors!
* Li Qian is just so pretty and the actress emotes so well!
* Shen Wei totally understanding what's going on with this shady research immediately and wanting to stay as far away as possible.  We see one of the first examples of him being aggressively polite to remove himself from a situation.
* "i'M jUST aN oRDINARY sCHOLAR." No one buys it Shen Wei.
* Angy Thinking Face
* One thing the show is really good at is using establishing shots really well so you always know where everything is and everything is going
* Guo Changcheng, all around good boy and angel.  We stan a nervous legend
* Zhou Yunlan Arriving.  Why is everyone on this show an Absolute Legend
* Guo Changcheng protecting himself with his certificate is too cute.  This young man is trying his best and I support him.
* Also that coat is Young, Pure, Stylish; I love it
* Zhao Yunlan, what's wrong with you? You are amazing!
* His irreverent style and disregard of usual policy makes him fit in really well with his band of misfits and special cases
* Guo Changcheng's OO face is too good, elastic face
* Da Qing my love!
* Jin Ling, I think he has an all seeing eye on his hoodie thing. Illuminati Confirmed.
* Also they filmed the shots so well, so you always know where everyone is in relation to everyone else
* Our Prized Cabbage!  I love her!
* Great handheld work: shaky and unhinged, but not migraine inducing
* Foreshadowing in the form of a shadow and reaching for the necklace
* Da Qing's cat behaviours. I really want behind the scenes of the actor discussing how cat was he going to cat
* We get our first real example of how Zhao Yunlan doesn't feel safe emoting negatively and so he uses a super sunny mask to hide his feelings, except with Da Qing who he lets his anger show with because he trusts him.
* I'm not even halfway through and I've written so much, peace and blessings to the readers of this.
* Zhao Yunlan's swagger, after his childhood having a little power must feel comforting and good
* I love how Da Qing is talking as a cat less than a meter from the medical examiner.  Does the examiner not care or does he know?  Is he deaf?
* Harassing Guo Changcheng is the new team sport
* Zhao Yunlan Realises Something Music
* Also, Lollipop Measurement
* It's nice to see Zhao Yunlan just being himself with Da Qing, he's able to really be honest and genuine with him
* Slow Look Moment
* This moment is so fascinating!  Shen Wei doesn't know what's going on yet.  He just sees an old friend who winces when he sees him and disappears.  We mostly see things from Zhao Yunlan's point of view, but from Shen Wei's perspective this is a first part of just some Odd and Confusing Happenings
* This cat though!  I love him!
* The delicate way they’re both feeling each other out.  This must be so confusing and startling for Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan is trying to figure out if this teacher is going to bust him or what.
* He forgot to let go, way to set off Zhao Yunlan’s suspicions
* “Mark Stewart” Is he though?  Who picked out that English name?
* Li Qian!  I love her and I love that striped blouse. Fashion.  Got to look good when you’re resisting a mental break. *Also she hears a meow and looks around at eye level, I love that for her.
* Zhao Yunlan!  You can’t take pictures of young ladies without their permission.  What is wrong with you!
* I love Da Qing’s very cat attitude of I Will Have Vengeance for These Wrongs
* Two for one! Shen Wei meets two faces from his past.
* Also, I get a little frustrated about people making a big deal about the 10,000 years versus 1,000 years age thing with Da Qing.  a) He has amnesia and b) the thousand years refers to the amount of time needed to cultivate to a certain stage in Chinese mythology - usually by absorbing energy from the sun, moon, or depending on the animal other sources.
* I feel so bad for Shen Wei, who knows what he thinks.  Were his friends brainwashed?  Did they forget?  Can they not say for some reason?  What is happening?
This review is getting a little long, so join in tomorrow for Part Two~~!

8 stangie (I can't pick an au not sure)
8. Strangers alone on Valentine’s day
Right away, I decided to go Restaurant AU with this.  Hopefully you like that AU.  I love Angie helping Stan make his restaurant a success through her gumption and skilled cooking.
Prompt List
——————————————————————————————
“I still think it was a mistake to not be open later ‘n usual,” Angie said as she wiped down a table.  “If we stayed open until, say, midnight instead of the usual closin’ time of eight, we could’ve catered to couples lookin’ fer a place to have Valentine’s dinner.”
“Doubt it,” Stan grunted.  He squinted at the numbers in front of him.  Going over the receipts at the end of the day was his least favorite task, in part because it reminded him of how desperately he needed glasses.  “In case you haven’t noticed, this place isn’t that romantic.”  Angie propped a hand on one hip.  She had only worked for Stan for a few weeks, but he had already picked up on her body language.  He knew the pose meant she was about to argue.
“And whose fault is that?” Angie asked.  “It would be so easy to adjust the décor a bit fer one day.”
              “I’m not gonna do that.”
I swear, sometimes, it feels like ya want this here restaurant to fail.”
“Stop trying to be a psychologist or whatever.  You already told me you’re in lizard school,” Stan said.  Angie rolled her eyes.
“I’m studyin’ herpetology, which is the science of reptiles and amphibians.”
              “Exactly.  Lizard school.”
“Lord,” Angie muttered.  She sighed. “Well, Valentine’s has passed, but maybe we can try to do somethin’ special fer upcomin’ holidays.”
              “Hmm.  Do you have ideas?”
“Not at the moment, but I’m sure I can come up with a few,” Angie said. She finished wiping down the tables and walked over to the booth Stan was sitting in.  “The place is all cleaned up.  Are you done with the receipts?”
              “No.”
              “Have you eaten yet?”
              “Have you?” Stan shot back.
“I’ll take that as a no.”  Without another word, Angie left the dining area.  Faint clattering sounded from the kitchen.
I thought she cleaned the kitchen already.  Eh.  Must’ve been wrong.
-----
Finally, Stan finished the receipts.  He pushed everything in front of him away with a sigh of relief.  Promptly, a plate of pasta with a side of broccoli was placed in front of him.
“Where’d this come from?” he asked out loud.
“Prob’ly from the person what made it fer ya,” Angie said, sliding into the seat across from him with her own plate.
“You were cooking in the kitchen?”
              “That’s what it’s for.”
“No, I-”  Stan glared at Angie, who merely snickered softly.  “I thought you were cleaning it.”
“I cleaned it ‘fore I cleaned the dining area.”
“But you cooked in it again.”
“It took me like five minutes to clean up after I made this, relax,” Angie said, rolling her eyes.  “I figured it might be nice to have dinner together ‘fore we part ways fer the night.”
“What, like a date?” Stan asked.  Angie scowled at him.
“No, like an employee who has realized her boss don’t take care of himself and wants to make sure he eats a vegetable fer once.”
“All right, all right,” Stan said, holding his hands up in defeat.  “You’re lucky you work for a boss that doesn’t mind talkback.”
“Oh, if I worked fer a boss what wanted me to be professional, I’d do that,” Angie said dismissively.  She twirled a sauce-covered noodle around her fork.  “I know how to be polite.  I just also know that politeness don’t get ya far with some folks.  Including you.”
“Hey, I like people who are polite.”
“Sure.  Ya like to walk over ‘em,” Angie retorted.  Stan opened his mouth.  “Eat up ‘fore it gets cold.”
“Don’t need to tell me twice,” Stan said, eagerly spearing a piece of broccoli.  While they ate, Stan remembered the suggestion Angie’d had earlier.  “Say, uh, the thing you said before about doing special stuff for holidays…”
              “What about it?” Angie asked.
“It’s not a half-bad idea.”  Angie’s face lit up.  “I don’t really keep track of those sorts of things, though, so I don’t know what all is coming up.”
“I think the closest holiday what establishments tend to do stuff fer is St. Patrick’s Day.”
“St. Paddy’s Day, huh?” Stan said thoughtfully.  He nodded slowly.  “Sounds good to me.  Maybe do some deal on beers or make up some green cocktails.  I mean, the day’s basically just an excuse to get wasted and wear green.”  Angie scowled.  “What?”
“I don’t really like what’s been done to St. Patrick’s Day in the US,” Angie mumbled, pushing her food around her plate with a fork.  Stan raised an eyebrow.  “Y’know my last name is McGucket, right?”
              “You’re Irish?”
“Well, Irish-American.  My great-grandparents came over from Ireland and settled in Arkansas.  Pa made sure to instill in all of his kids a great respect fer our heritage.  There was a small church a couple towns over what did services in Gaelic on St. Paddy’s Day, so we’d go there fer mass.  The day celebrates Saint Patrick, who, according to legend, banished all the snakes from Ireland.”
“Wait, why would you like the holiday if you’re at reptile school and this guy got rid of snakes?” Stan asked.
“He did other things.  That’s just one of the things he’s well known fer.  I’m tryin’ to explain the holiday’s origins.”
“So, St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t made just to get wasted?” Stan asked. Angie frowned at him.
“Is any holiday?” she asked.  Stan thought for a second.
              “Oktoberfest.”
“You weren’t that great at history in school, were ya?”
“Nope!” Stan said cheerfully.  He looked down at his food.  “If it offends you that much, we won’t do stuff for St. Paddy’s Day.  No skin off my nose to not do extra work.”
“No, it’s not-”  Angie sighed. “We can do somethin’ fun fer St. Paddy’s Day.  But maybe not focus on the alcohol aspect so much?”
“What do you want to focus on, then?”
“Well, this is a restaurant,” Angie pointed out.  “I could whip up some traditional Irish recipes ‘n adapt ‘em to suit an American palate.”  She grinned. “Heck, I could have ya be a taste tester.”
“I do like to eat,” Stan said dryly.  Angie giggled.  Stan felt his cheeks redden.
Shit.  That was…cute.  No, Stan, she’s your employee.  And she would be pissed as hell if her boss even seemed like he was gonna make a move on her.
“We can get green decorations, maybe make mint milkshakes.”
              “Like McDonald’s does?” Stan asked.
“Yes.  But better.” Angie winked.  “‘Cause I’ll be makin’ ‘em.”  Stan chuckled.  Angie ducked her head, poorly hiding a faint blush.
“Sounds good, Ang.  We can make more plans tomorrow.”  Angie nodded. “But you should probably head home. It’s getting pretty late.”
“Yeah.”  Angie got up. She reached for her plate.
“No, I’ll clean it up,” Stan said.
“Don’t you have to go home?”
“You already did almost all the cleaning,” Stan replied.  Angie frowned at him.  For a moment, Stan worried she had noticed he was dodging the question.
“Who are ya and what have ya done with my boss?” she asked, dispelling Stan’s concerns.  “The Stanley Pines I know don’t clean if he can get away with it.”  Stan shrugged and stood up.
“Maybe you just don’t know me that well,” he retorted.  Angie rolled her eyes.  “See you tomorrow morning, McGucket.”  Angie grabbed her purse.
“See you tomorrow,” she said.  She left the restaurant, the bell on the door jingling as she walked out. Stan picked up the two dirty plates, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Not too shabby for a Valentine’s Day dinner.  Definitely better than the last five or so.

2020 Reading Wrap-Up
This year was extremely cathartic in terms of reading. The past few years I’ve been reading, but not very fast and not very often. I am proud to say that as of today, I have read 31 books this year. Not only was this the most I’ve ever read period, but the most varying in genres that I’ve ever read. Normally I stick to ya contemporary and fantasy, but this year I jumped around from middle grade to adult to new adult back to ya. I also discovered my favorite authors of all time. The books I read this year were fun, eye-opening, and engaging. Some of them I definitely didn’t like as much as the others, but that’s a story for later.
Without further or do...here are my top 8 of the year!
1. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Tumblr media
This is the book that started my rom-com kick this year. I started off the year finishing up the TATBILB series and I immediately jumped into The Hating Game and my god did I fall in love with it. If you haven’t heard of it, it follows Lucy and Josh who work together and are mortal enemies and well...I think you can guess where it goes. It’s hilarious, it’s sweet, and boy is it sexyyyy. I can’t wait to see it come to life on the big screen with Lucy Hale and Robbie Amell! They just started shooting and I can totally see them both being perfect in their rolls.
2. Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
Tumblr media
Last year for Christmas, this was one of the books I got - along with The Hating Game. It took a while to start this one but I loved it and it made me see how incredible Christina Lauren is. There’s a way that they write about love that’s unlike any other. This one was also sweet, hilarious, and sexy and the ending had me all emo. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes so if that’s what you love, this one would be right up your alley. It’s about Hazel - a wacky, zany teacher who in college had several run-ins with Josh that didn’t go very well. Years later, they run into each other at a party and become friends. This eventually leads to them going on double dates with people they set each other up with - but they always end up going home together;)
3. The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
Tumblr media
O. M. G. This was a WILD ride. I had no idea what to expect with this one but I definitely had many times where I was actually laughing out loud. The premise of this one is insane: our main character’s twin sister is getting married and she just so happens to hate the brother of the groom. On the night of the wedding, the main character and the brother end up being the only ones at the wedding who don’t get food poisoning so they’re forced by their siblings to take their honeymoon trip to Hawaii. If that hasn’t hooked you, I don’t know what will.
4. In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Tumblr media
THIS. BOOK. One of my favorites I’ve EVER read. It’s everything I could ever want: romance, humor, and CHRISTMAS! I feel like I should’ve kept this one closer to Christmas but I read it at the beginning of November and it instantly put me in the spirit. With a lot of these rom-coms, it’s easy to predict what’s gonna happen, but this one I had NO IDEA how it was going to end. And I loved every second of the journey. This one follows Mae to her family and family friends’ cabin on Christmas. After a disastrous trip, she gets in a car accident with her family and ends up repeating the holiday over and over again. Oh and there’s a cute boy that she’s nursed a crush on for years. This one had me laughing out loud too and also crying. We absolutely stan this and I will definitely be reading every year at Christmas time.
5. Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Tumblr media
Holy. Shit. I can’t even describe how much I loved this book. If you know me, you know how much I love music so this was the PERFECT book for me. At first it took some time to get into, but once I was into it...phew. It absolutely flew by and all I wanted to do was read. It’s about a fictional band from the 1970′s. I don’t even know what to say other than that so I don’t spoil anyone but it is a JOURNEY.  I found myself gasping at some points because of how shocking some things were. Ugh. I loved it. If you like Fleetwood Mac in any way, I highly, highly, highly recommend this book.
6. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Tumblr media
I knew I wanted to read this after I finished Daisy Jones, but I actually didn’t get around to it until a week or so ago. I flew through this one too and oh my god. If Daisy Jones wasn’t shocking enough for you then this one. Oh. My. God. It’s about Evelyn Hugo, a fictional starlet from the 50′s (? I think) who asks a small time writer to help write her biography - to be released after she’s dead. Evelyn is such an intriguing character, you just want to know more and more and more. And there’s one thing about her that is absolutely shocking. There are actually so many shocking revelations throughout this book and it all took me completely off guard. Surprisingly, I feel like I learned a lot through this book and from Evelyn. She’s painted out to be not a very great person, and I think I understand why people think that about her, but I don’t see her that way at all. I actually feel like she’s a good person, maybe a bit selfish, but there’s one thing all of her decisions have in common. Love.
7. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Tumblr media
Phew. I can’t believe it took me this long to read this book. I thought I’d be okay with just seeing the movie but let me tell you...the book is so much more eye opening and amazing.. After the protests in June, I saw everyone talking about things like White Fragility and How to Be an Antiracist - but I knew those books wouldn’t be for me. Now hear me out...I hate non-fiction. I learn lessons much better through fictional stories and that’s why this one resonated so much with me. Starr is one of the most brave, incredible characters that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. The way Angie writes her story is both beautiful and heartbreaking. You watch as she changes and how the people around her change by the horrific event that has taken place. I’m not gonna try to summarize it, because hopefully everyone knows what it’s about by now. If you haven’t yet, go pick it up. Right now. I feel like this is a story that’s going to be around forever and that we’ll be giving to our children to read when it’s time. As a white person, I can be empathetic, but I truly will never understand what it’s like for Black people, but reading this gave me a better understanding of what is actually happening. The Hate U Give taught me about how broken the system is, and how we can fix the issues that are plaguing the Black community right now. The most poignant and important book I could ever read.
8. On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
Tumblr media
After The Hate U Give, I couldn’t not read this one. And wow. On the Come Up follows Bri, the daughter of a rap legend, who is trying to make it in Garden Heights - the same neighborhood Starr is from in The Hate U Give. Bri’s journey is rough, but it’s incredible to see the work she puts in to end up on top. Sometimes the decisions she makes get taken the wrong way, but in the end, her family as at the core of every decision she makes. All she wants is her family to be okay and I think that’s something that a lot of people can relate to. On the Come Up might not be as deep as The Hate U Give, but Angie teaches some incredible lessons through this story too. Also, let me just say...Angie wrote some INCREDIBLE raps for this book and I really hope we get to hear them come to life one day.
Other reads:
Those are my favorites of the year, but I still read a lot of other books this year. I re-read The Hunger Games trilogy! I read The Hunger Games way back in 2010, so it was about time that I re-read them. And let me be honest...I stopped Catching Fire about halfway through...so I never finished them until this year...I have to say they were kind of disappointing. It might just be that it’s been so long that I don’t connect as much with the stories anymore, but they are still great.
I FINALLY read the Percy Jackson series! I had The Lightning Thief chilling on my shelf since I was in 5th grade and something finally got me to read this series. It did not disappoint and I loved every second of it. I can’t wait to see what the Disney+ series is going to be like - hopefully they actually do it justice this time around.
This year I have been obsessing over Tom Holland...lol so naturally I read every book that he was signed on to be in the adaptation for. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness aka the first Chaos Walking book was by far my favorite. The movie is coming out in March! I also read Cherry by Nico Walker and The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock. Cherry was...interesting. I kind of hated the narrator the whole time so I’m hoping they changed up the movie a bit. I’m thinking they did because I read some BTS stories and some of them don’t line up with what was in the book. TDATT was a little disturbing...but I enjoyed it. The book was much better than the movie, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend either to anyone...unless you wanted to see Tom or Sebastian Stan or Riley Keough in the movie. I’m sure I will be finishing the Chaos Walking series eventually and I’m also interested in reading Beneath a Scarlet Sky which Tom has been signed on to for a while. That one sounds very intriguing and I’m excited to hopefully read it next year.
I finally watched Big Little Lies and I wasn’t going to read the book, but I did end up eventually reading it. It was good but not nearly as good as the series. It might be because I knew how it all would end, but it overall, was not my favorite. I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of Liane Moriarty’s books though.
Oh! So I read The Cursed Child...That’s all I’m gonna say.
I completely forgot to add I also read Roomies and Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren. Roomies was very good and probably could be in my favorites list, but it just didn’t reach the level of the other three. It was fun though, so if you liked any of those three, I would recommend it. Twice in a Blue Moon though...I was so bored. I almost stopped reading it a few times but I just pushed through. It wasn’t a rom com at all, just a romance, which wasn’t for me. A lot of people that liked Christina Lauren recommended Beach Read - which I read, and did not enjoy very much. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t phenomenal, that’s for sure.
There were a few YA books I read this year: Slayer, Truly Devious, Capturing the Devil, the final two TATBILB books...but my favorite was Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare. It’s been a while since I’ve been into her books but wooooww. Chain of Gold was incredible. I loved the characters and I loved that we got to see our favorite characters from The Infernal Devices again. It was a JOURNEY and reminded me why I started reading CC in the first place.
Well...That’s it for my reading wrap up of 2020! Here’s to another great year of great books in 2021!

(III)
The uninitiated would be enamored with Danny’s life. The centerpiece of the tales would be this ironically named Clearwater’s Best Championship. Danny’s first title belt acquisition. He would never clarify that it was his only one. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, he’d say. Adrienne stared at her reflection in the large curved circular bronze plate. The metal was engraved with the raised letters Clearwater’s Best around the circumference of the medallion. Finally, a looming ferocious mountain lion. Or a Florida panther. It was a solid ten pounds with a gaudy bright red leather strap. This was the belt, he’d claim. All of the talk about former championship glory had made her think about Danny’s early career more often. Matt Knox and Jonathon Willis’ parallel runs helped conjure the thoughts even more. He could hear Danny’s voice in her head as she softly recited the tale. After all, nobody was paying attention. “Let me tell you about the night that I became Clearwater’s Best. It all started when I overcame thirty nine other men.” The truth is that Danny was an unannounced entrant in this huge battle royale. Someone else won, she couldn’t remember, and Magnificent Danny Levi came out from under the ring and tossed him over the top rope. “And then in the same night, I vanquished a champion who had been to that point unconquerable.” A twenty year veteran if she recalled correctly and he’d been a hometown hero. An upstanding citizen. He had short blonde hair, a clean shaven face, and rock solid square chin. An all American boy. He went to church every Sunday and he told the children watching to always believe in their dreams. Maybe he was sincere, who knows. “But when I looked in his eyes, I saw him for what he was. Weak. Naive. Gullible.” Via Danny’s instructions, she had made sure to get on the apron at the right time. The gallant knight smashed into her and Adrienne fell backwards. She had legitimately twisted her ankle that evening - failing the last instruction to feign injury. Unbeknownst to the referee, the previous step was for the purse she had carried to be slid into the ring. Angie’s first exposure to the business was indeed this match. “And through seemingly insurmountable odds, I did it.” He sure did, he had taken a brick and broke the champion’s face. Fractured his orbital socket, actually. The referee turned around as Danny screamed for him, dove into the ring, and counted one, two, three. “It was the night I became magnificent.” Depending on the setting, the telling would vary in length. The story was however always about him. “...you lied.” This admission was to no one. After all, once more, no one was paying attention. Another admission is that she hated this belt. Danny’s lies weren’t just about what transpired that night. This title was a lie. Danny had commissioned a leatherworker to remake the belt. He spent nearly two grand and he descretated the original image by putting his face on the side plates. That wasn’t really an issue. The title was company property. No wrestler owned it. The champion just carried it to represent the company. To his credit, Danny didn’t lie about his reign. He just didn’t talk about it. Six days later, the former champion’s brother had cashed in a rematch clause. She had been banned from the building. Considering that she couldn’t stand in the heels that she would normally wear, that was a blessing. The night wasn’t about Danny. It was about a brother’s love and at the same time, stepping out of his shadow for an opportunity he had never had. Danny lost. Over the years, he would never become Clearwater’s Best again. Danny’s lies weren’t just about what transpired that night. That battle royale was invitation only and each one of those men involved had some modicum of success as their ticket. Danny had yet to win a match so it was awfully strange that he ended up in the spot. The promoter had stated that Danny Levi’s surprise inclusion was in effort to shake things up. He had proclaimed that the new champion was the future. James Fairman was a portly, balding, pale businessman in his fifties. Mr. Fairman also owned Clearwater’s Best Wrestling in addition to a car wash, a couple of laundromats, and a Shoney’s. Adrienne’s pink nails reflexively dug into the leather. The Levis, married for just a year at the time, had met Jimmy at that restaurant the night before. That was the thing about Danny. He was always a self-starter. He was planning and plotting on how to get to that next level despite limited means and ability. Maybe that is why Adrienne fell for him. He just never gave up. He didn’t take no for an answer. But it surprised him when Fairman invited him out of the blue. Well, both of them. Jimmy insisted. “Wear the blue dress, high heels, the works, A. Doll up. This is big for me. Big for us.” “To a Shoney’s?” Yeah, at a Shoney’s. So there she was, out of place, eating a country fried steak dripping in gravy and trying not to dribble all over the shimmery wholly uncomfortable attire. Not only that, she was crunched into one of those high wooden booths in a corner. Danny was across from her. Fairman, next to her. Next to her. Downing his second vodka infused tea, Jimmy laughed at one of her husband’s jokes. His voice was very raspy as if he was always exasperated at someone. “That’s a good one…” The conversation drifted to Jimmy’s real purpose. “Alright, enough of that.” Jimmy steepled his hands on the table. He stared down Danny with his bifocals on the edge of his nose. On close inspection, the blood vessels were burst throughout. “Daniel. Let’s be real honest here. You’ve been in my company for half a year now. I only know that because I sign your checks. You know why?” “Sir?” “You’re a bum, Daniel.” Adrienne involuntarily dropped her fork on the plate. It rattled about but was lost quickly in the noisy din of the restaurant. “But you show up on time and do your job. That’s okay, I suppose.” Business paused as a waitress came by and refilled all of their drinks. Danny’s slack jawed expression showed that the assessment started to sink in for him. Adrienne burrowed into the corner, clutching a glass of water with both hands and sipping at it. “Just a little constructive criticism. But you intrigue me. Helps that you got some good gash following you about.” He said that without even acknowledging her presence. In fact, Fairman’s only interaction was to kiss her hand when they had all first met in the parking lot. “What are you doing tomorrow night?” “Uh, you’ve got me scheduled for a preliminary bout.” “Good spot for you. You’re facing some guy who’s coming in from Texas. Big cowboy looking dork but the locals eat that sort of shit up.” “Yeah.” “What if you weren’t doing that? I got that battle royale. Big hot shot sort of deal. Got guys coming in from all over the world and we’re going to draw a nice house. Later that night, winner’s gonna fight Stan. Clearwater’s Best.” Danny was tight lipped. All of that bravado was sapped dry in front of someone with some real power. “You aren’t in that. Invitation only like I said, Daniel,” he paused, “But maybe you could be.” “What? Really? You serious?” Fairman chuckled at Danny’s sudden burst of exuberance. “Sure. But I need something from you. Well, actually the both of you.” Adrienne sat up, timidly offering a reply. “Me?” “That’s right.” He dug into his pants pocket, retrieving a keycard, then tossing it on the table. “I got a room at the Hyatt. Nice view of the ocean. Come up and we can talk further.” Adrienne discretely shoved the belt off of the table. This wasn’t something she felt like dwelling on. After all, why should it matter? Things got so much better after that. Danny may have been inconsequential as a champion but suddenly he had a guaranteed contract. His pockets were flush with cash and despite the results being a contradiction, Magnificent Danny Levi was a megastar. And Adrienne? She was a nobody. Part of her wanted to take all of the compliments at face value. After all, it was rare to get that sort of notice. Part of her found it infuriating. After all, she knew this business. Easy to patronize a rookie who had been branded this company’s newest loser. Also discounted her ability. Her mind. Her drive. Infantilized her when she had been in the industry her whole adult life. Not that it mattered. There she was, after the show, by herself. Not by choice, too. At a gimmick table. She’d blown her last paycheck from Kaplan to get shirts made that showcased her big debut dive. She’d hastily signed a stack of photos with a bright pink paint marker with a big looping signature. And for some reason, she brought Danny’s stupid title. But alas, no one wanted to see her. After all, there were returning legends, current and past champions, and larger than life personalities. The show seemed to be a crowd pleaser. Every champion had retained. And through some precautionary measures and like every good regional show, some of the talent stayed afterwards to maybe make someone’s night. The idle time had her dwelling on her effort. Adrienne was sure that she had made an impression. Her abdomen was sore from the impact of leaping off a ring post onto three other human beings. But in the end, Jon Willis had reversed her momentum and had ended the match with his hand raised in victory. Backstage, Adrienne had been informed that she’d be the opponent for a new acquisition that was reportedly monstrously huge at the next event. She’d cross that bridge later. Casting a glance to the side, she checked the time on her phone. Only five more minutes and she could pack this junk up and disappear. In the bustle of the crowd, she heard a quiet murmur. Sounded something like … “Hello.” It was a meek soft voice but also clearly one of a child. Looking forward, she saw a little girl place a crisp ten dollar bill on her table. She couldn’t be more than seven years old. She had brown mousy hair, dark almond eyes, and a slight overbite. Her show branded shirt reached below her knees and she already had a stack of autographs tucked under her arm. Adrienne finally realizing that she was on - smiled in reply. “...hello to you.” Adrienne slid over the photo across the table. Just behind her, she could see what she concluded to be her mother watching with a slight smile on her face. “...I’m sorry you didn’t win.” Adrienne’s smile didn’t flinch. “I am, too. Did you still have fun?” The kid nodded while staring down at Adrienne’s picture. “Neat. Well, so did I.” “...thank you.” “You’re certainly welcome. Do … do you want a free shirt?” Levi snatched the top one off the stack, this one would actually fit her. Graciously, the shy child took the shirt and photo. Waving goodbye, she turned back towards her minder and into the next actual line. She looked down at the Founding Father’s face. Danny had once promised to get her tickets to Hamilton. He had connections after all. Adrienne pocketed the tenner, mumbling to herself. “You were full of shit.” It wasn’t until a few days later that she decided to crack open the tale of the Lab Rat King. The internet provided just speculation and rumors. A tale too depressing to be true. Adrienne considered that this Zane King was just putting on a show. Danny tried that. Usually failed. But the ones that succeeded? Their tall tales melded seamlessly with their real lives. Was he new? Or has he done this before? No one seemed to really know. Her mother’s words echoed in her head. You drew the short straw again. Scouting reports indicated that he was a terror in the ring but at the same time a controlled frenzy, so to speak. Either he was a learned veteran or a natural blue chipper. You don’t have a chance in Hell. That was Danny, he always had something smart to say these days. Mister “Too Busy to Call His Wife” was still living it up big in Japan. Time for a change of scenery, she decided. It was a nice day for Florida Woman to maybe get arrested for something decidedly Florida. Or maybe lay about on the beach, watching the waves lap at the sand. She could say something about this Zane person there. Interacting with him was fruitless. He seemed unhinged. Although, the thought of such a huge man hunched over a small phone, tapping his fingers away on a virtual keyboard was kinda funny. When the smartphone camera finally switched on, there was Adrienne Levi in a modest dark blue one piece. Her eyes were protected by a pair of knockoff Italian designer shades. The rest by a slathering of suntan lotion and a Tampa Bay Lightning ball cap. “No offense to Baltimore but the weather there is pretty dreary.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Oh, sorry. Adrienne here. You guys haven’t got rid of me yet. So the first time around, Starburst got me good. And just this past week: different faces, same result. I’m not going to lie. Losing is not optimal. But you won’t catch me moping about. There’s always next time.” Adrienne thought about next time. “And oh, boy. Next time happens to be the Lab Rat King. Facing former world champions was a daunting task but how do you prepare for someone that doesn’t seem to care about all of that? That wasn’t rhetorical, she’d been wondering that for days. “...and well, I don’t know.” There was a pungent pause. The ambience of the setting took over briefly. The water, the kids playing in the background, and the gulls overhead. “Mister King has already written me off as his next meal. I’m used to that.” And so she addressed him directly, in a more deliberate tone. The shades hid the apprehension in her eyes as best they could. “Well, you sure made an impression. You’re scary and I haven’t even seen you in person yet. I don’t know what you really think of me and at this point, I’m not sure I care to hear. You don’t seem like a good person. But after looking around, there seems to be a lot of bad people here. So maybe you’ll fit right in. Your mask is a little public so maybe work on that.” She paused, the dumbest thought crossed her mind and before she could stop herself, Adrienne blurted it out. “Imagine the smell.” She snickered despite her own sensibilities. “I’m guessing you’re just trying to be socially mindful these days but probably no one was brave enough to tell you that leather isn’t very breathable.” Adrienne shook her head, stifling more laughter. “Sorry, sorry, I’m being mean. Look, Zane, whatever you’re going to do to me?” Almost on a dime, she kinda trailed off. “...it won’t be what you expect. I’ve fought bigger monsters than you and I’m still here. Perception is that Lab Rat King is a sure bet. I’m not going to spout off some biblical cliches today about having a slingshot in hand. It’s too nice of a day for that bunk. I am however going to make sure you know that Adrienne Levi kneels to no king.” The feed cut abruptly. Totally not because Adrienne dropped her phone in the sand.

It's Been Long Overdue, But Missy Elliott Is FINALLY Getting Her Props & We Stan!
Tumblr media
MTV is giving Missy Elliott her flowers while she's still here. So, we're strolling down memory lane to celebrate her most iconic videos. Also, the network is setting up a pop up interactive museum ahead of her receiving the Michael Jackson MTV Video Vanguard Award at this year's VMA's. More inside...
Earlier this week, MTV announced that the musical legend will receive their prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the Video Music Awards on August 26th.
I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the MichaelJacksonVideoVanguard Award I Thank my FANS “Supafriends” who fought diligently to see this day come @KidFury @crissles who rooted for years 4 me I am crying happy tears Thank you God @MTV @vmas am SO HUMBLED pic.twitter.com/udfhBNc78k
— Missy Elliott (@MissyElliott) August 12, 2019
There will also be performances by ASAP Ferg, Big Sean, H.E.R., Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion, and Normani.
This honor is long overdue, but to celebrate before the big night, we recapped some of Missy’s best music video moments.
youtube
"The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" - We’re sure that when you think of Missy, this is the first video that comes to mind. One of the most impactful, legendary and innovative music videos ever, Missy showed us right away that she was on another planet creatively and that the rest of us peasants should not try and keep up. From the iconic black, oversized jumpsuit, to the cameos from everyone from Puff to Lil Kim to Total, everything about this video is pure perfection.
youtube
"Get Ur Freak On" - Holllla! This is exactly what folks around the world did when Missy dropped this video. In the early 2000’s at a time where music started to transition, Missy continued to stand out. In this video, she gave us swamp realness with futuristic looks and choreography. Fun fact: This video was filmed in an old bakery in Glendale, California.
youtube
"Sock it To Me" - While many of us were too young to be listening to the lyrics of this song, the video nonetheless was nothing short than amazing. Directed by Hype Williams, we find Missy, Lil Kim and Da Brat all dressed up as space invaders on a remote planet. “Sock It To Me” displayed Missy’s creativity and innovation once again. Ugh, her mind.
youtube
"Pass that Dutch" - We all recognize Missy as a magnificent writer, producer, and rapper but let’s not forget our good sis dances down! In “Pass That Dutch," Missy quickly reminded us that she can hang with the best of them in the dance category.
youtube
"Beep Me 911" - Only the real ones knows about this one! Missy takes us into her version of Barbie world filled with beautiful black women (dolls), while singing and trying to get answers from her dirtball boyfriend. Even Timbaland and Magoo (youngins, go Google Magoo) joined in on the fun as Ken dolls. This one can be marked as one of the underrated, yet very significant moments for Missy.
youtube
"Lose Control" - Missy nabbed hype man Fat Man Scoop and fellow dancing diva Ciara for this classic. If you were a part of dance group, you had a routine to Lose Control.
youtube
"Work It" - Show us someone who’s never attempted the choreo from this video and we’ll show you a liar. In a visual ode to old school hip hop, Missy and her bad a** break dancing buddies did what needed to be done. Missy is so good at what she does, that many didn’t realize “Work It” is really about sexy time with bae, because everyone was focused on how amazing the video was.
youtube
"She’s A B*tch" - Another Missy and Hype Williams collab, “She’s A B*tch” let the world know Missy was not for play play! This video was more than great choreo and Missy wearing a bald cap.  This was a statement to the industry (and the world) that women can stand in solidarity and that we can lead and are not confined by society’s standards. In 2017, Missy brought back her iconic look at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The 90’s Game Changers Awards. We stan a feminist icon.
youtube
"WTF (Where They From)" - Released in 2015, Missy had to remind us that she’s still twenty years ahead of whatever else your faves are doing. “WTF” highlights a mashup of Japanese pop culture and hip hop. There’s a cameo from Beyonce dancers, Les Twins, and we even see marionette versions of Missy and Pharrell Williams.
youtube
"Not Tonight (Ladies Night)" - Back when unity in female rap was a thing, Missy along with Lil Kim, Left Eye, Angie Martinez and Da Brat gave the world a feel good anthem that ladies all over the world could relate to. With cameos from SWV, Queen Latifah and Mary J.Blige this star studded video is a fan fave. While the song is technically Kim’s track, Missy on the hook was like your favorite ice cream on a summer’s day.
Musical genius indeed.
By the way, MTV is celebrating all things Missy Elliott!  Following news that the multi-talented icon would be receiving the Michael Jackson MTV Video Vanguard Award at this year's VMAs, MTV will be hosting an interactive pop-up museum.
MTV has teamed up with Pepsi for an interactive social media experience which will highlight all of the genius work Missy has contributed to the music industry over the years. It'll also spotlight several of the creative visionaries that worked with her behind-the-scenes to create some of her most legendary music videos, including costume designer June Ambrose, directors Hype Williams & Dave Myers, choreographer HitHat and more.
Fans will get to turn up inside the Supa Dupa Fly Lounge, a nail bar and a host of original "photo activations" that will bring to life several of Elliott’s most memorable videos like "The Rain," "Gossip Folks," "Lose Control" and more.
The Museum of @MissyElliott is opening this weekend in NYC. #MuseumOfMissy #MissyElliott
RSVP here: https://t.co/Cpo9OfesFt pic.twitter.com/7e4E1k4wUA
— Monica.dev (@waterproofheart) August 21, 2019
The museum experience will take place at 632 Broadway in New York City on Saturday, August 24th (11am - 7pm) and Sunday, August 25th (11am - 6pm). However, the tickets are already sold out!
We can’t wait to see Missy accept her award at the VMA’s. She is an innovator in every sense of the word and while this honor took long enough, we’re happy Ms. Elliott is finally receiving her things!

Nine New Disney Legends to be Honored During the 2017 D23 Expo in Anaheim on July 14
Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Julie Taymor, and other remarkable contributors to the Disney legacy will be honored as official Disney Legends during D23 Expo 2017. Hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the Disney Legends Award ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, in Hall D23 of the Anaheim Convention Center.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Disney Legends Awards. The first Disney Legend was Fred MacMurray (The Shaggy Dog, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Happiest Millionaire), who was honored in 1987.
“The Disney Legends Award is the highest honor our company can bestow on an individual, reserved for those few who have truly made an indelible mark on the history of The Walt Disney Company,” said Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. “It’s a celebration of talent, a recognition of achievement, and an expression of gratitude to the men and women whose work has significantly contributed to Disney’s enduring reputation for creative excellence.”
The awards ceremony is just one of the dozens of spectacular events that Disney fans can enjoy during the three-day D23 Expo.
The 2017 Disney Legends Award honorees (listed alphabetically) are:
CARRIE FISHER became an overnight sensation in 1977 with her iconic performance as Princess Leia in Star Wars. But throughout her career, Carrie took on many roles—as an actress, author, playwright, screenwriter, and outspoken advocate for mental health awareness. For Disney, Carrie appeared in Scream 3 (2000) and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) for Dimension Films, and, in 2015, she returned to the role that made her famous, starring as General Leia Organa in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She reprised the role for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will be released in December.
CLYDE “GERRY” GERONIMI joined the Disney Studio in 1931. His first assignments as an animator were for several memorable Mickey Mouse, Silly Symphony, and Pluto cartoons, and he eventually contributed to more than 50 of the Studio’s shorts. Gerry made the leap to sequence director with 1943’s Victory Through Air Power, and he subsequently contributed to The Three Caballeros, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and One Hundred and One Dalmatians. He also directed segments for television’s Mickey Mouse Club and contributed to episodes of Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. The apex of his Disney career came when he served as supervising director for the 1959 masterpiece Sleeping Beauty.
MANUEL GONZALES was one of 33 artists selected from thousands of applicants to join Disney in 1936. In 1938, he took over penciling duties on the Sunday Mickey Mouse comic strip from Disney Legend Floyd Gottfredson. He brought Mickey Mouse to newspapers nationwide for nearly 40 years. At its peak, his Mickey-starring comic strip appeared in 120 newspapers around the world with a collective circulation of more than 20 million readers each week. Manuel was presented a “Mousecar” award by Walt Disney in 1966.
MARK HAMILL began his career in 1970, appearing in numerous television series guest-roles and several TV movies, including a recurring role on ABC’s General Hospital and starring in MTM’s acclaimed The Texas Wheelers. He achieved worldwide attention as Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, which included The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He returned as Luke in The Force Awakens and will appear in the upcoming The Last Jedi. His stage career includes Broadway shows and the first national tour of Amadeus directed by Sir Peter Hall. A prolific voice-over actor, he has performed in countless animated television shows, feature films, documentaries, and video games. He appears on Disney’s Miles from Tomorrowland and Milo Murphy’s Law, and has also provided the voice of The Joker in the Batman animated series, a role that recently earned him a BAFTA Award.
WAYNE JACKSON began his career as a Walt Disney Imagineer in October 1965, and in the decades that followed he would put his technical skills and know-how to great use in the development and installation of Disney attractions around the world. Originally trained in aircraft tooling, he began as a technician and machinist assigned to rebuild the shows from the 1964–65 New York World’s Fair that were slated for installation at Disneyland. Instrumental in the early development of Audio-Animatronics® technology, Wayne would go on to help bring Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion to Disneyland. He went on to work on the construction and installation of attractions and show systems at Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, and Disneyland Paris.
STAN LEE got a job as an office assistant at a comic publisher in 1939 called Timely Comics—forerunner of the powerhouse we all know as Marvel. Stan made his debut with a Captain America story in 1941, and by the next year, at the age of just 18, he was promoted to editor. In 1961, Stan teamed up with Jack “King” Kirby to create the Fantastic Four and ushered in a spectacular new age of comics. Stan co-created an enormous roster of Marvel characters, including Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the X-Men, Daredevil, and Falcon. He became Marvel’s editorial director and publisher in 1972, and eventually was named chairman emeritus. His well-known cameos in Marvel films began with 1989’s telefilm The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, and since the release of X-Men in 2000 he has appeared in nearly every Marvel film project. Outside the super-hero realm, he has even popped up as a wedding guest in Disney’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
GARRY MARSHALL began his career in Los Angeles writing for a number of hit shows, including The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Lucy Show. But his big break came in 1970, when he produced The Odd Couple for ABC, the first of many big hits he created for the network. Beginning with Happy Days in 1974, he developed a shared universe of spinoffs including Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, and Joanie Loves Chachi. His other ABC sitcoms during these years included Angie, The New Odd Couple, and Blansky’s Beauties. Garry was also a successful movie director, with 18 films to his credit. At Disney, he made stars of two young actresses: Julia Roberts, in Pretty Woman, and Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries. He directed Bette Midler in Beaches, as well as in The Lottery, a short film that for years was a fixture of the Backstage Tour at the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park. Garry was known for his acting, as well, and he appeared in Disney’s Race to Witch Mountain, Chicken Little, and as the Devil in Hocus Pocus.
JULIE TAYMOR is a Tony®-, Emmy®-, and Grammy®-winning and Oscar®-nominated filmmaker who has changed the face of Broadway with her innovative direction. Her adaptation of The Lion King debuted in 1997, becoming the most successful stage musical of all time; 24 global productions have been seen by more than 90 million people. The show has played in more than 100 cities in 19 countries. It received 11 Tony Award nominations, earning Julie Best Director, Costume Designer, and Best Musical for the show. Her production of The Magic Flute is currently in repertory at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Her films include A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Titus, The Tempest, the Golden Globe-nominated Across the Universe, and the Oscar-winning Frida. Taymor is a recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and an inductee into the Theater Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement. She is currently directing M. Butterfly on Broadway, opening Fall 2017.
OPRAH WINFREY is a renowned award-winning producer, actress, talk show host, and philanthropist. For 25 years she was the host of the award-winning talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show, which ran for 25 seasons on hundreds of stations domestically and in more than 100 countries around the world. Oprah is also an Academy Award®-nominated actress for her role in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 hit The Color Purple. In 1998, she starred in Beloved for Disney’s Touchstone Pictures, a film that she also produced. Oprah also produced and starred in ABC’s 1989 limited series The Women of Brewster Place, and would go on to produce many films for ABC, including Tuesdays with Morrie, Before Women Had Wings, and Their Eyes Were Watching God under the “Oprah Winfrey Presents” banner. She performed as Eudora in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog in 2009 and will co-star as Mrs. Which in Disney’s 2018 film A Wrinkle in Time.
Honorees receive a two-foot-tall bronze Disney Legends sculpture that signifies the imagination, creativity, and magic they have brought to the Company.
