Amy Bennett’s “Heydays” (2011) at 86th Street ( R) in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn celebrates the past and present of the neighborhood, depicting scenes of neighbors and shifting relationships over the course of time and space.
New paintings by Amy Bennett depicting scenes of everyday life are currently on view in “Nuclear Family” at Miles McEnery Gallery until August, 16th.

Amy Bennett's "Nothing New under the Sun" (2016) is reproduced from ‘Landscape Painting Now,’ our not-so-sleepy contemporary landscape painting survey, which released last week. Included in primary author Barry Schwabsky's chapter on Constructed Realities, Bennett's work sits beside paintings by Will Cotton, Cinta Vidal, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Merlin James, Gillian Carnegie, Alex Kanevsky, Adrian Ghenie, Lisa Yuskavage, Inka Essenhigh, Mark Tansey, Vincent Desiderio, Justin Mortimer and Jean-Pierre Roy. "Paintings that highlight their own constructedness never let you take too seriously the old picture-as-window idea," Schwabsky writes. Recent station construction at 86 St (R) station in Brooklyn added elevators and expanded Amy Bennett’s mosaic mural “Heydays” (2011). The artwork celebrates the history and ever evolving Bay Ridge neighborhood. In creating the new artwork, @amybennettstudio carefully established the same work environment, maintaining the scale, lighting, perspective, and color of the 3-D models she used for the original piece to create detailed paintings which were then translated into glass mosaic by @mayerofmunich. In the expansion the artist re-imagined the neighborhood’s unique homes and estates dating back to the area's rural origins, and further developed the artwork, adding row houses, a mother and child in a window seat, and trees. .. #MTAArts #AmyBennett
