Amulet RE-read: book 9

Final book and no matter what people say I think the ending is great.

Now Emily is showing Ikol the consequences of his actions.

And now Emily is not listening to him any more.

Trellis giving up the crown to Gabilan feels right.

The masks that Ikol wears is not fooling Emily any More.

It’s amazing how Emily was able to save both Cora and Cala.

What Ronin did is amazing thinking about the future and not the past.

West is right on page 83

I agree with Ronin that there will always be darkness everywhere.

Emily right that Ikol has no control over her.

Emily right that the planets need to be in a better shape than they found them.

Page 114 and 115 show how much Emily change in the book series.

Who ever that robot is on Page 132 and 133 is right on Page 133 panel.

And again on Page 136

I had no idea this how Gadoa trees were planted like this.

I’m amazed that Navin was able to figure that out.

Emily now knows you true colors Ikol.

What Emily did on page 186 to 192 was powerful.

Trellis is right on Page 206.

What Emily said at end of the book felt vary powerful and amazing as well.

how the hell did the king keep Luger and Trellis from knowing they were brothers post memory swipe? Did he never claim Luger as an heir to the throne and thus no one knew he was his son for sure? Did he decide to forbid any servant or member of the castle staff or the army from mentioning it? Your sons are both major political figures how the hell did you manage to keep either of them from knowing after you stole their memories???

So there I was, reading Amulet several years ago. Out loud obviously, because I'm a voice actor at heart. And then I decided to experiment and give some characters accents. Just a few. Just to play around with it.

So what did I decide on?

I made Gabilan Australian and Aly some strange mix of Russian and German maybe? I'm not sure exactly what it is. I told my brain to do an accent and it did an accent.

It’s been out over a week and half since I read the finale amulet book and I’ve been thinking nonstop about Waverider and I am still mad.

*deep inhale*

Sigh.

I consider myself to look for the best in things. I told myself that since Supernova was very, very bad, Waverider couldn’t possibly be worse?

Then page 25 happened and all of my hopes went so far that they in the burning ashes of hell. And if you don’t know what page I’m talking about, I’m taking about the part where Trellis tells Gablian that he is fucking king.

I’m sorry, the fuck?

Let me tell you a little fun fact, Escape from Lucien is my favorite amulet book in the series. Now I rated that book 5.1 on my rating list, and that’s quite low for me. So why was that my favorite book? Because of the scene where Max tells Trellis he was the true king, Trellis saving his people from their ship exploding, and the scene where Riva realizes the trees were talking about Trellis.

Those scene were my everything, I thought about that book for three weeks straight, no other thought registered in my head, zero, zip, nada. Nothing but those scenes. Was I biased because I loved Trellis and thought that the elf king plot-line in a series that went off the rails so quickly? Yes. However, that book solidified the excitement younger me had to see Trellis take back the throne and save his people and become a proper ruler. The set-up had me excited and the description the Amazon summary didn’t help calm down the flames of my passion at all.

Then I fucking read Waverider.

First of all, Gablian would not be a good king. I’m sorry but the assassin guy? The guy that stole people’s memories? The guy that chooses violence and aggression over anything else? Really? Thats the best candidate for being the new king? Really? The guy’s moral compass is a fucking roulette wheel! He made one reference to being king in the second book and it was made to be a treating, villainous way!

Why?! Just why, and with Trellis right there?! Are you kidding me?! Trellis being king has been set up for such a long time. Like the idea of Trellis not becoming king right away because he isn’t ready is an interesting concept on paper. However, the execution doesn’t flipping work. Gabilan would be a terrible leader, he’d a tyrant! He’s shown no interest in being a leader while Trellis’s ENTIRE thing was being king and saving his people. It’s like Kazu Kibuishi was handed a six course, 3 Michelin star meal and decided to flip the meal onto the ground and eat the musty crusty, rotting rat corpse instead.

You know what? I could be overreacting. I honestly could. But all I know is that if I don’t go to sleep now I am going to set Waverider on fire.

Amulet RE-read: book 7

It’s interesting how Emily gets ready for the day.

If you take a look at page 12 panel 3, the book that Trellis is reading is called memory walk.

Max must have trusted Emily with the location of Algos island.

A bit of foreshadowing from Cogsley.

I don’t know why Cogsley didn’t remember that Enzo and Rico were not on the ship.

I wonder how the submarine docks?

General Pil should have known that Navin was going to do that.

Pil should have expected that Riva would send people to find them.

I think that Ikol is the one bringing Emily to the camp.

I think that the war was supposed to start later but because the Cielis guard found the ship the war was started early.

Gabilan is right that Ikol is choosing Stonekeepers for there weakness.

I believe that the ship will activate if Ikol would win.

Ikol must have put the new information in the cube.

Ikol did not want young Trellis from knowing that truth.

Ikol probably is the one making the computer not find Emily and Trellis.

They look like chess pieces because that’s how Ikol sees them.

If you take a look at page 136 panel 4 you will see chess pieces on the gas pump mirror.

If you remember the first post you will know that the car’s engine die but the barrier was not damaged.

Emily’s Inerself knows something is not right.

I wonder how Earth was discovered by the space program.

Makes sense that the elf king tried to dismantle the space program since he is being control by an alien force.

Riva must have told the Cielis about the resistance bace in space so that Karen, Misikit and Leon can go there to help.

Amulet Re-read: book 3

I was able to read book 9 of the Amulet and I thought it ended very good note. Anyway here’s book 3 for you guys.

When you lose control of the stone you are trying to regain control. One you do it damaging you physically and mentally.

The only what’s them them back to kill Trellis not because he failed but because he know’s too much.

I think that the reason that Trellis is helping Luger is because he is remember who Luger is.

The king is trying to kill Emily because he can’t control her and in previous book’s he was trying to control her.

When Gabilan said “When I king.” He want’s to help the Elf’s with wast’s happening to them.

I wonder how much Karen got use to Alledia.

Karen is right abut the alien planet.

Karen thinks that Leon should not be trust.

So Cogsley and Silas both built the house.

I’m interested on why Misikit not know that Silas was looking for Cielis?

Navin likes the airship plan.

Karen is right that Its a bar.

Enzo being happy that there is a map to Cielis.

Which characters do you think you're going to leave out/downsize their role in your rewrite?

Honestly, I'm not finalizing things for now but looking back on it, it does seem like almost EVERY character NEEDS an increase of focus or at least more active participation in the plot. I will end up omitting many of the new characters because there's far too many Amulet characters that it's bloated the FUCK outta the series, and instead try to prioritize those most crucial to the plot. Meanwhile, I would maybe try to change the nature of their roles/their story journey:

Main Characters: Emily, Trellis, Navin (in that order)

Great Impact on the plot: Leon, Vigo, Max (he won't die in this version), Karen (up in the air), Luger (he'd last longer and stay villain til the end), Riva

Minimal focus, Great Impact: Miskit (working on him), Virgil (he's not related to Trellis, but an advisor to EK), The Human Resistance (maybe?), the Elven Resistance (definitely)

Crucial character to the flashbacks to why everything is shit: Silas (he's not a good guy here, I'd argue he never really was), EK, Cielis... Vigo.... Roy. Virgil.

Increased minor character focus: Daniel (Vigo's son)

Increased villain focus: Elf Army, Cielis

Still important, but we really gotta reduce their appearances: Alyson, David Hayes, General Pil, Gabilan

The character I'd reduce the role of most is.... the Voice. Because I can't fucking stand him, removes too many chances for the characters to choose for themselves, be it fuck ups or triumphs, and an overall tumor on the plot. In fact, there would be no fucking possession or mind control or what have you in this Rewrite, because we love character agency in this house. Instead, the Voice as a character would be merged with the Elf King to solve character focus and pacing issues. The EK isn't the main source of all problems, but he is the most obvious, widespread, and the biggest priority to be taken down right now.

I find the title Waverider funny. It fits the end. Just ride the wave of whatever positive qualities were keeping the series aloft. Coast on nostalgia, tenure, and the one thing it did well. Visually appealing art.

So you have finally read Waverider in it’s entirety? Is there any factor, panel/dialogue/info, that connects with whatever made Amulet special or worthwhile to you in the end? What did you like best about it, if anything. Or that you could tolerate to commend in any degree?

Some of the ideas I actually liked. Trellis humble enough to accept not to take the throne. Vigo needing to be a better mentor and father, and his experience in the Void. Trellis being the leader. He and Riva getting together.

Except, the way Kazu executed them was so atrocious they sound like bad ideas 💀 I mean, YES I do think Trellis would be the type of person who'd decline the throne if he believes it to be the best decision, but I wanted him to eventually choose to ascend again after proper character development to be king! It's been hyped for so long! Yes, I'd love to explore Vigo's shortcomings and the darker aspects of himself that gets enticed by illusion and not truth and he does it by HIS choice, but that was needlessly cruel and jarring. Trellis and Riva could be a good couple with proper foundations and sufficient time, but fuck, what she said is jail-worthy.

This book also made characters I didn't think I'd hate. Ronin, EMILY, Leon, Gabilan, RIVA - I didn't even think it was possible. I don't even hate the character, I KNOW it's the result of poor writing choices but fuck, rereading the books soured and ruined my view of them, every time they come up, I can't help but think about book 9. I'll try not to let this ruin my perception of the characters any further.

I think that the rest of the posts will be short, I don’t know yet.

The king’s servants looking down so that they won’t see the markings on his face.

I don’t know how other people didn’t know that something was wrong with the cloud’s as well.

I wonder who’s idea to make a giant cotton swab for the wax extraction device.

Why does Karen think that Emily and Navin will be the ones going down there with Navin said “They’re sending us, mom.”?

It’s too bad that we don’t get to see the colossus’s in action.

I’m amazed that really old when he said “Silas trusted me to guard this message as I was his best student.

Ikol was probably the one who manipulated the council into exiling Silas.

The shadows probably don’t like the smell of fish and that’s why the Elf’s can’t stand it as well.

I wonder why the resistance went to Lucien.

It’s nice that Navin still remembers his home world.

Why is the code just the second row?

Emily is that they were chosen because they the most vulnerable.

I don’t know why Patrick thought that the pipe was a good idea for Navin and Alyson. (but then again he is just a kid.)

I think that Ikol know that they were coming for him.

Max must have known about Algos island by Gabilan.

What happened on page: 196 to 199 seams like the proficiency that father Charles said.

It’s nice that Navin believes that Emily is going to Valcor to fight the elf king but it won’t be until the eighth book.
