We have plenty of time to talk about the cool little KEIL...but for now I just want to say the servicing job my amp tech @marshalllespaulfan did on the #Traynor is just fantastic. Amp was perfectly quiet but when you turned the reverb up even a little bit there was a buzzing noise...turned out to be a failing tube. Also, I found the rate of the vibrato way too fast so he added a capacitor in parallel, and now it's nice and sloooooowwwww, just the way I like it! This really is the PERFECT amp for me. At the volumes I play at it sounds as good as my 1961 Fender Concert, but it has reverb! Also it cost less than 1/4 the price. What's not to love?😂

I'm pleased to finally announce that that the @traynor_amps YGM 4 is officially the latest addition to the #ToneHenge™ family of noise-making boxes, and my first ever #vintageTraynor acquisition! It's super clean considering it turned 50 this year, and I got a hell of a deal on it from my amp tech, @marshalllespaulfan. It's largely original (transformers, speakers, grill, badge, tolex, handle etc), but he did make some practical, minor, improvement modifications (e.g. adding a presence control, replacing the awkwardly mounted RCA speaker jack with and externally mounted 1/4 inch to more easily connect to an external speaker cabinet, as well as slowing down the tremolo circuit to a more leisurely pace - man they loved it super fast in the 70s! 😂). The original and much maligned 4 x 8" Marsland speakers even sound great (these speakers have a terrible reputation, and so many people replace these on vintage #Traynoramps) as does the original reverb tank!

This is my current favourite amp and I am super happy to welcome it into my collection!

* PS: in case you are wondering what I mean by "Daily Driver", it's a reference to cars and commuting. A "daily driver" is the car you use for everyday stuff (like getting to work, doing the shopping, dropping the kids off at the pool etc). This is a picture of my TV room. To the right, out of frame, is the couch I park myself on after dinner each evening to watch my "stories" on the Tube. I always keep a #guitar and #amp right beside me to noodle on each day as the entertainment spews forth from the idiot box, burning itself indelibly onto my retinas and furthering the slow, steady, atrophy-cation of my brain! 😂

Just got back from dropping off a load of #amps for servicing with my trusty amp tech @marshalllespaulfan, and look what I came back with!!!* 1972 @traynor_amps #StudioMate Super clean with some tasteful mods (added Presence control and more convenientlt relocated speaker jack), but original speakers. This thing sounds incredible! The 4 x 8 cab is very full and deep and the vibrato is super powerful. The reverb is right out of a Dick Dale tune. I'm going to enjoy this one! So...after 2+ years, I'm relieved to be saying goodbye to the Peterborough incarnation of #ToneHenge™. Don't get me wrong. I'm not happy to be leaving this lovely town - I'd be happy living here forever. But...this house. This house has made my photography life super difficult, and I'm glad to be leaving it! I don't need to tell you that in photography, light is everything. Sure, it also helps to have nice guitars and home decor too, but when you have bad light, it literally doesn't matter how good your guitars or camera are. And this house is SO DARK. It has so few windows (or at least the ones it does have point in the wrong direction to let in light). There's so little natural, soft, warm, glowing light - you have to work super hard to make every single photo look half decent. It is just not very conducive to (easy breezy, care-free) photography. Along with all the other unfortunate circumstances of the last 2 years, it's just one more factor piled on top that's been stressing me out and doing my head in. Wearing down my sanity, slowly but surely! On the plus side, it looks like it's onward and upward to a new and hopefully better (but, in any case, a more naturally lit!) ToneHenge™ back home in the Toronto area.
