Dear Molly,

Sentiment has never been a strong suit of mine, as you perfectly well know. When I began writing you these letters, I had framed it in my mind as a logical task. Attempted to separate the calculated move with the emotional response. In truth, this letter wasn’t part of the plan. I feared that if I allowed myself to think feel deeply at a time like this, that I would be vulnerable. Susceptible to failure due to a chemical defect known as love.

I do, Molly. I do love, even if it’s not in the romantisied way you wish for and deserve. I also know that I don’t deserve to do so. I know you must have a lot going mixed feelings about what I have done and what I might be up to. There is a good chance that you might never want to open to this one; perhaps you’ll never reach that state.

However, if you ever do — I hope perhaps this can make up a little for the anger you felt by my disappearance. I cannot tell you where I went or why; in truth I don’t know if I will ever come back. I just want you to know that, despite anything that might lead you to believe the contrary --- I did care about you Molly. I trusted you and you mattered. Our friendship, even if you might not have categorized it as such, was important and perhaps I should have tended to it more. 

The point I am trying to make, is that I want you to believe me in my next statement, because if you are reading this letter than it means that you miss me: I just want you to know that I miss you too. I miss the morgue, the ginger cat hairs that lightly coated everything. Even at my worst and blackest of moods; you were always eager to help me. Even as I took advantage of your kindness, something I do hold guilt over, I was grateful for it. Perhaps, these letters are more sentimental that I thought. Perhaps I wished to make it up to you someway. 

I should have been better, I just was never very good at knowing how. I wish you were here, sometimes you appear as the voice of reason in my mind. That’s not the kind of thing you can casually say to a person --- but it doesn’t feel so strange to enclose it in a letter. This is what I mean, you matter to me. When I’m stuck or in trouble, your voice is in my mind. It helps me think. Helps me focus. When I was shot, it was you who appeared to me and helped me save my own life. I owe my life to you because you’ve always held it at a higher value than I do. 

I hope one day you can forgive me, I don’t know anymore if this letter will bring comfort or cause you more distress. Maybe it’s unavoidable to have both.

The Doctor had decided to spend a day in London going out and exploring and after a few hours was making his way back to the TARDIS when he noticed it.  “That wasn’t there before,” he stated as he noticed the glass dome now surrounding the city.  He looked up and it did indeed go all the way up and around, keeping everybody in and everybody on the outside out.

“Well, this could be a problem,” he thought.  Even more concerning, when he tried to go to the outside to investigate, the TARDIS couldn’t get past it.  “That’s odd,” he stated after the attempt.  “So, whatever it is, it’s not just glass, and it’s particularly strong.  It has to be to keep my TARDIS inside,” he thought as he walked up to the glass to scan it with the sonic screwdriver and he noticed there were quite a few other people starting to walk up and investigate it.  One in particular caught his eye however, as she was wearing a lab coat.

“What do you think?” he asked the woman.

Rosie would be well taken care of by Mrs. Hudson. Right now, John busied himself with Molly’s sprain, pressing gently over her ankle. The fall had been loud, and he regretted having asked her to help take his daughter down the rickety steps. Not that he was any steadier, but still.

      “It’s bit bad, bruise might stay for two weeks. You hang on,       I’ll grab some bandages, and then drive you home.”

  “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you in the flesh, Ms. Hooper. I’ve heard quite a bit about you.”

Words were purred with silk and interest, forming a unique tone to them. Her lips curved upwards and she observed the woman before her. Of course Irene had seen picture of her, but she was rather fond of meeting people in the flesh and seeing what had been changes or not in the photos. Molly looked exactly like the pictures she had seen. Interesting.

  “Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Irene Adler. The real one, not the one I used to fake my death.” A smile spread over her features and she waited for her reaction.

SHERLOCK DEFLATED WITH AN AUDIBLE EXHALE.  His life had effectively been in shambles for the past week, at a dead end with the only case he’d had any interest in, hands trembling with either cocaine or tobacco withdrawal ( he couldn’t be sure which, anymore ). He had developed a track record in recent months of preferring intelligent company to being alone, but at this very particular moment in time he found himself wishing for the latter. Yet here the mousy happy-go-lucky pathologist stood, in the doorway of his flat. As much as he valued her, he did not want to wind up taking his melancholy mood out on any undeserving friends. 

“Listen, Molly, I’m not really in the mood.” he muttered, trying to keep his tone as non-personal and soft as he was capable of.  “Do you need something?”

Reminder that autism was not as well understood in the 70s and 80s. Back then children who were not incapacitated by the disorder (and most likely institutionalized) were just considered “weird” or problem children. The support for parents of children with psychological problems was also not as readily available as it is today. Not saying that Sherlock’s parents didn’t make mistakes, but it was a different time and I think that’s something to keep in mind.

I understand that. his parents likely just assumed it was something akin to anxious behaviors and anti social, but couldn’t see the obsessive side of his mind or how he ( likely ) didn’t speak for weeks on end. perhaps more. there was a lot to happen to him and his siblings, which perhaps they just didn’t know how to deal with it. so they ignored it. which isn’t exactly the best way to go about these things. needless to say, so much could have been done.

John sat straight and on attention at the edge of the sofa, child in arms yet ceasing to rock. The only sign of life was the instinctive blinking of his eyes, grey orbs dry and unfocused, gazing at absent images and shades. He was waiting for someone to come and take her, comfort her, kiss him on the cheek for putting up with the baby.

The doorbell was like a cue, a press of a button that caused his gears to run. Single, long buzz. By deduction in the method of a certain consulting detective, it belonged to a woman. John jumped to his feet, cuddling the crying baby to his racing heart as he strode towards the door with all anxiety in his steps. His hand nearly missed the knob, nearly slipped on the knob, and then finally the door was thrown open.

          “Mary-----Molly?”

John stood dumbfounded. Obviously not quite expecting to see her. Or anyone else other than the former.
