Science and Technology (S&T) and Nation Building

As of the current situation of the Philippines on the percentage of the poorest countries in the world, the Philippines has decrease its percentage of poverty from 13.0 percent in the first semester of the 2015 going to 8.5 percent of first semester of 2018 according the Philippine Statistics Authority. Thus, this indicates that the government of the Philippines never stop and continuously make it into .0 percent. Providing and meeting all the needs of the people for an economically vibrant and resilient communities.

From this, the Philippine government formulated an authority responsible for the development planing and policy coordination as NEDA (National Economic and Development Authority)

By this, they formulated an agenda: HARMONIZED NATIONAL R&D AGENDA (HNRDA) 2017-2022. Prepared by the DOST or (The Department of Science and Technology) as for the Nation Building and the foundation of AmBisyon Natin 2040. It has a 3 pillars or support for the development namely the MALASAKIT (Enhancing the social Fabric), PAGBABAGO (Reducing in equality), and lastly the KAUNLARAN (Increasing potential growth).

One of its 5 sectors is the INDUSTRY, ENERGY AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGY.

The Responsibility of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development or the (PCIEERD). It is tasked to perform for the Development of the national competency in research and develop strategies areas of industry, energy, and emerging technological sectors in the country. This focuses on Food and Nutrition Security, Countryside Development, Competitive Industry, Delivery of Social Services, Intelligent Transportation Solutions, Renewable Energy Storage Solutions and lastly, the Human Society.

Personally, this subjects on their agenda has a very huge impact to all of the Filipino lives. It provides us an affordable and easy rationalize living. If you search and read only this subject you would be amaze of how good our government that he Science and Technology has this subjects to meet up our needs not only every or month but in every day. For example, the Food and Nutrition Security. they develop an innovative food products not just it self but a safe food apart from common food contaminants and had passed for their grading system in the market. You can also have the Competitive Industries. They are trying to advance the processes of Science and Technology in ICT, Electronics, Mining and Minerals, Metals and Engineering, Packaging and Industrial Application of Nuclear Technology.

Considering all the necessities of every citizen on their daily needs. Our health awareness, job employment, educational attainments, good communication, and safety assurance of everyone is the focus of all of this.

MORE for MORE: S&T Projects as Keys to the Filipino Dreams

People will always be people. Other than change, we all have this another constant thing in common, as well - the want and need for more.

Up until today and within this changing world, inventions, discoveries, knowledge and more are introduced and brought upon continuously in an effort to advance and improve the way of living of the many. These endeavors, such as the current Science and Technology projects of the government, geared towards everyone’s maximum benefit should be welcomed and pushed to success. This is in an effort not only to uplift ourselves and our country from its current pathetic state of living, rather it is an effort to advance, improve, develop and reach the dreams of our nation, as well.

We Filipinos are ambitious people (tanggapin na natin). Alongside with freedom, justice, equality and such, we always yearn for better lives for ourselves and our families. We work the hardest and offer the most painful sacrifices of going abroad, working overtime, studying hard, and finding other means to earn money, respect, acceptance and love in hopes to have easier and more fruitful lives.

Then in the midst of this, the world continuous to change and evolve - needs become wants, wants become needs and everything seems to be a necessity for everyone. However, these are in no means simple to achieve. Just as how our population continues to grow, the food, water, energy, money and other resources continues to deplete, and prices of these ceaselessly shoot up.

That is why there is a strong call for conservation and systematic use of resources, innovative and cheap machines and materials, more advanced and developed knowledge and technologies, and endless opportunities for everyone. In order to reach the Filipino dreams – the government made emphasis of these factors, thus the birth of S&T and nation building, Ambisyon natin 2040 , then the Harmonized National R&D Agenda 2017-2022 as foundation, and other plans. The growing wants and needs are enough reasons to agree and support the working government. We want more and who are we to deny these efforts? (bawal ang ma-pride dito).

Electricity is one major necessity of everyone today for it fuels the lights, the machines, factories, transportaitons, phones, telecommunication devices, etc. One agenda of the government which is concerned with renewable energy and energy storage solutions (Renewable Energy Systems and Bioenergy Technologies), could help give rise to nation building. Energy is vital to quality human life and the country’s economic growth, contributing to poverty alleviation and people empowerment (Cusi, 2016). Not only does it increase the adaption and utilization of renewable energy systems, it also provides electricity and energy enough for everyone to use in cheap and more environmental-friendly way.

There will be no more shortage of electricity, rotational brown outs, environmental risks and unfinished movie marathons or requirements with the help of these projects. Moreover, with electricity enough and affordable for everyone, it is easier to connect, communicate, interact, share information, spread news and awareness, promote, and give light to attain nation building and ambitions of everyone.

These S&T policies and agenda of the government may seem to be so perfect and idealistic, however it does promise us for “more” – more opportunities, more food, shelter, water and resources, more or better life than before. And within these growing or ‘more’ population, more wants, more needs, more dreams and aspirations, more people calling for more, maybe, just maybe this is what we have been yearning for. We just have to believe, work hand in hand with one another and the government, and maybe someday in the future, we will just find ourselves living in our own and our nation’s dreams - LIVING THE FILIPINO DREAMS.
