“stared at the sun and the sun smiled back and called itself pirate king (or: loyalty, on the high seas)” - by grainjew, a loyalty focused series of oneshots that absolutely devastate me every time I read it. My favorites are but the eternal pose points East (Lech L’cha)” and “a certain calmness” and - okay if I list anymore I’ll just list the entire series oops. Highly recommend!

In Which Higuma Doesn't Get To Get Drunk, Even Though He Really, Really Wants To - also by grainjew, Luffy goes back in time and everyone bullies higuma, delightful one shot, 2.5k.

The King's Will - my last rec (for now) by grainjew, a one shot focusing on Rayleigh and Luffy training on Ruskaina, and the application of conquerors haki, 2.3k, very, very good.

How it Should have Healed - by Wordlet, 36k, a hurt comfort series about Luffy’s numerous injuries over the years, and his crew taking care of him. Extremely sweet, hurts my heart, luffy please learn to take care of yourself, 100/10 reread all the time.

Coming Into Focus by DemonsLOver, 4k, focusing on Luffy’s trauma after Marineford, EXTREMELY good, I reread this one a lot as well.

Being there - by chali, 45k, another Luffy post Marineford fic that I love, focuses on his trauma and wounds left over in varying aspects and with each individual crewmate.

wish by spirit and if by yes - by midnightluck, 32k, in which sabo and ace reunite and they may have some issues but everything turns out alright in the end.

Chasing Flowers by taizi - 4.7k, the Strawhats leave out gifts for luffy and he just has to follow, outsider pov, one of my absolute favorites of taizi’s fics!! Actually just gonna say rn go read all of taizi’s one piece fics, everything is so very good.

Already Forever by taizi - 1.8k, another of taizi’s fics that devastate me, nami realizing that the way luffy works will never be understood by any one else, really, really, really sweet.

Sea Shanties by Milo - 13k, luffy focused series of one shots, and the first one devastates me. zoro/luffy but it’s not romantic just platonic and this made me cry 100%, its just. So soft. Chapter 2 is with brook annd chapter 3 is with shanks and oh,,,, oh its so good. One of my absolute favorites of all time.

Twin Flames by SoccerSarah01 - 66k, a Marineford fix-it in which Sabo remembers, he and Ace call themselves not just brothers but twins, and everything changes. This is by Sarah whom I love and I 100% cannot rec this fic enough its so, so, so good. asl brother focused and the way the brothers are written im just the watery eyes emoji.

I'll be by your side (forever, always) by SoccerSarah01 - 1.5k this also by Sarah is another fix-it in which Luffy takes the blow for ace, and there aftermath and it hurts but ohh,,, its so sweet

Wind Beneath My Wings by SoccerSarah01 - 11.8k, last rec for me rn by Sarah, essentially the asl brothers celebrate Makino’s birthday and everything is good and wonderful and soft <3

Rising suns, free waters by Amazaria - 5k, vivi and shanks talk at mariejeoise fic how can you not fall for that like. Oh god the concept is so good, and amazaria executed it perfectly!!! 100% recommend, stays very true to the characters, and their like for one straw hat luffy.

Serendipity and other ordinary miracles by Amazaria - 2k, also by Amazaria, Straw Hat loyalty and discussion of dreams thats just so, so, so good. it hurts my heart, but luffy loves his crew and they love him so everything is okay.

All that we've yet to lose (burning, burning bright before us) by Amazaria - 1.9k, usopp and Gear 2’s effects on Luffy, dear god this makes me cry, like. Holy shit. Also some very good nami + zoro bonding in the background like!!! cries.

Who Knows (what could happen) by Chromi - 87k, the only unfinished fic on here but im putting it because HOLY SHIT! Essentially the journey of Ace and the Spades from Sixis to the Moby Dick, Ace/Deuce incredibly good writing I cannot stress that enough and also pining. So much pining. Deuce you are so gay. This fic is very lovingly and well written, does err on the more mature side than the rest of the fics I have listed here (just look at the tags) but not explicit by any means. Chromi also has like. Tons more ace/deuce fic, and I highly recommended checking out her Take My Breath Away [Tumblr SFW Prompt Fills] series!

Synthesis by KBstories - 4k, in which even Luffy has a breaking point and that breaking point Is sabo, but his friends won’t let that happen. I reread this fic so much and it’s so fucking good like all of KBstories like,,, cries??

quiet like a fight by shanatical - WIP, BNHA/Satsuriku no Tenshi crossover, 80k, T

The odyssey of Rachel Gardner, who isn't actually as Quirkless as she once thought and has zero compunctions against using that to get what she wants.

Being stuck in Japan is a bit more of a hurdle than a death sentence and a high security institution, but she and Zack have dealt with steeper odds, she's pretty sure. Plus Ultra, as they say.

aaaaaah just a delightful mix of canons that feels very natural together! mind the warnings, though, SNT is not a nice canon and there are some heavy mental health themes. The friendship and following Rachel's development is very fun!

being the unwilling heir to a crumbling throne would make anyone tired. sleeping is noctis' favourite past time, and prompto? his favourite escape.

In stumbling across an abandoned village that seems too good to be true, Trevor stumbles across himself, too. Lucky for him and the lives of the countrymen riding on his success, Alucard and Sypha are there to pick him up.

technically part of a series and has a wonderful 80k sequel as well as some related oneshots, but this is the core completed longfic. I accidentally read one of the last chapters before the first chapter and still loved it even when i had no idea what was going on. light horror vibes that are just enough to add some spice for a non-horror person (me)(THE CHICKENS WERE A BIT. MUCH.) but ymmv of course. amazing incredible fantastic action sequences. we're going to drag the trauma and relationship problems into the light and then beat the shit out of them. Badass Sypha.

Hi! I dunno if you really take fic recs, but there’s this really good one called Of the home I once knew (tell me, is there anything left?) by Amazaria on ao3 that I would highly recommend Brook fans to check out if they want to. The author also has written two other amazing Brook centric fics

It's the big party after defeating Hody Jones. Usopp gets Sanji away from all the mermaids. (Honestly, Sanji, these nosebleeds are disgusting.)

Well, not just him. His mother says there’s another person in the world with the very same mark as him. Still, as far as Noland knows, no one on his island has the same mark as him.

Bending the 300 kudos rule for this one because it’s a longfic and it’s criminal how few kudos this has. This is a true feast of a LawLu Modern AU if I’ve ever seen one. I adore everything from worldbuilding to plot to characterization. It’s one of those stories that makes you run to AO3 whenever it updates. You won’t regret catching up with it, I promise.

I’m one of those idiots who is so focused on the Most Popular Boys that I get tunnel vision from it and then there comes a fic that shows me what a monumentally stupid move that is. Myde writes those fics by the regular and I adore all her writing but this fic specifically is so very good and so very underappreciated. It’s a Coby-and-Brook story about shipwide illnesses and those who keep things together. It’s sad and hopeful and wonderful, my heart is so full.

This one is a swift but deadly roundhouse kick to the heart. It delves into an aspect to Law’s powers that makes me anxious to even think about in the context of Wano (or any fight with high stakes, really) and Ash sharpened that potential to its best possible effect. Straight to the point, absolutely heart-wrenching, join me in Law feels hell please!!!

(Ash also wrote a kidkiller one-shot called familiarity for me and I’m aware this will sound very biased but it’s the best thing I’ve ever witnessed with my own two eyeballs. Timeskip Kidd & Killer being soft around each other, my crops are forever watered... thank you...)

This fic gave me a lot of emotions I didn’t know where the fuck to put, it’s just so good and unique and my soul burns just thinking about this. I never really considered the monster trio as an OT3 constellation before this but I certainly am since I read this. Pre-timeskip figuring out of feelings and polyamory, my god my heart aches.

Scrapyard Remnants by threesipsmore

Another kidkiller classic in my eyes. It’s an exploration of pre-canon Kidd & Killer, how they grew up and came to be and I just love this a lot. It was written before the Wano revelations of late, and I can’t express enough respect for tackling these characters in such a believable way with how little we knew of them back then.

This is one of those tattoo-it-across-my-body-this-is-amazing kind of reads where every line is so good and hits so deep and it stays with you for a long time. It’s an AU where Zoro is a tiger shifter... person roaming Goa where Luffy stumbles upon him, and I’m a little mad it’s not actually canon because it’s so unique and I adore the idea. Anyhow. Read it or die by my sword(s).

God’s gonna trouble the water by hongmunmu (@dragonkov)

Reading this is an experience that’s so visceral it’s hard to describe. It’s a what-if scenario for Water 7 where Usopp dies before he can grab Luffy’s hand and escape with the crew, and it’s exactly as emotional and harrowing as that sounds. This author’s grasp on Usopp and the entire crew is unparalleled and I literally haven’t stopped thinking about this fic ever since I read it.

I tend to lean towards less “romantic” (not that I don’t enjoy some romantic stuff sometimes!) works but I don’t really keep track of what I read so I don’t have much but I hope these recommendations will work for you!

Then and now: by @rudimentaryflair on Tumblr. A lovely fic about Nami and her early interactions with the rest of the straw hats (mostly Zoro and Luffy). The writing is wonderful and the characterization is on point! Probably one of my favorite fan-fictions!

A funny, traveling tale: by taizi on AO3. A short but sweet tale about Brook and the rest of the crew as seen from an outsider perspective! 

I met death once (she told me to stop being so lonley: by amazaria on AO3. Rayleigh and Brook met during the two year time skip and talk about their respective captains (both former and current in Brook’s case). Not necessarily about the strawhats but a great read nonetheless! Sad but also very sweet! (I do believe it’s part a series of works but I haven’t gotten the time to check out the rest yet.)

And that's like,,, the equivalent of not super-famous hero school in canon? And the equivalent to UA would be being the apprentice of an active pro-hero from the start I guess? And there's this agency that's really known for being able to bring out the best in any kid, (1/2)

(2/2) and two days after the world learns All Might has an apprentice (and is still losing its collective mind about it), the agency gets this e-mail from All Might himself and the only things inside is “Hi sorry to bother you but, hypothetically,,, if my apprentice was breaking his bones using his quirk,,, what should I do?” and they don’t understand anything

Yeah, I imagine there is equivalent of ‘college-prep schools’ that work with kids before they become apprentices (or at least apply to be apprentices). The kids who get accepted by a top hero immediately out of middle school are the most well-regarded. All of 1a (and 1b too, I suppose) were accepted the first time they auditioned. Other apprentices - like ones under less famous heroes, or heroes with dozens of apprentices, or apprentices who weren’t accepted until their fifth time auditioning, well after they graduated middle school - are jealous. 1a can’t escape the scorn of their peers, even in this AU.

AND I’M HOLLERING AT ALL MIGHT
