Please thank you but why is a collection of poems by Lysbeth Em Benkert. The poems explore how we navigate sacred spaces, how we discover what feels true, and how we imagine the gods might answer our prayers even as they whisper their own.

There are poems to Persephone, from the muses, and replies from Loki. There are poems about Inanna, and other mythological figures such as Elvis, Ophelia, and the nightingale.

Several of these poems started out as responses to prompts given to me by fellow Tumblrs, and I want to thank them for their inspiration and support. I have been less present on the platform recently for several reasons, including the explosion of my original fandom and the disappearance of many mutuals. Howewver, the people here have gotten me through a very dark time in my life and I am grateful for the escape it's provided, for the open-hearted acceptance, and for teaching me so many things.

Around 2010 I contracted the "Flesh Eating Bacteria." I was in the hospital for 22 days & had over 5 surgeries. I was lucky because the bacteria was in my right breast. The doctor removed the necrotic tissue which prevented the bacteria from spreading to other areas of my body which had less fatty tissue. Additionally my doctor removed half of the skin on my right thigh to use as a graft on my breast. Not only was I in the hospital for 22 days but after leaving the hospital I spent about another 2 weeks, every day, in the Hyperbaric chamber which helped the graft work, giving me a full recovery.

SHOULD YOU FIND AN INJURY TO YOUR BODY PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DON'T TAKE A CHANCE ON CONTRACTING THIS DANGEROUS & DEADLY BACTERIA.

What is going on with Tumblr?

#1 - Why do I have to log in every time I try to get onto Tumblr?

#2 - If I haven't been on Tumblr every day I only get a very short list of the ACTIVITY during the times I haven't been on Tumblr for a day or two.

#3 - Is this my fault or has Tumblr changed how our sites work now?

If you don't want to cry then don't read this. I had to read it simply because, at my old age, I have lost so many dogs & cats. It is never easy to say goodbye. Even after they've been gone they are still with me & always missed. IT HURTS TO LOSE A BELOVED DOG OR CAT. That said, life without these companions is something I would never choose to not have cats and/or dogs in my life.

This 10 year old cat lost his caregiver. The elderly woman's grandson took her cat into his home. Clearly the cat was confused, scared & afraid of a stranger & a strange new home. I applaud this man for being both patient & caring. Rarely do family members take in a cat or dog when a family member passes away. They either dump them on the streets or take the animal to animal control. Those cats who are terrified of the change in their environment most often are euthanized. I wish family members would follow in the footsteps of this kind & dedicated man & take in the animal their family member loved.

This statement from the article really hit home for me:

Not everyone was so generous with their empathy. Several people I communicate with daily knew that Waffle Cone had died and never acknowledged it. When my partner told an acquaintance about our loss, the acquaintance replied, “It’s just a cat.”

Many years ago I had a friend whom I called after losing one of my animals & was terribly upset at the loss. Her response to me was what the same as above - "IT'S JUST A CAT." 40+ years ago & that phrase still makes me cry. No our animals aren't HUMANS but they were loving, cherished companions & their loss hurts as much as it does when a parent, sibling or close friend dies.

PLEASE - NEVER SAY THAT TO ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS. Even if you don't understand the depth of the pain when a beloved companion dies at the least PLEASE BE KIND TO YOUR FRIEND & TRY TO UNDERSTAND THEIR GRIEF.
