my disappearance ♡
hiii this is cynthia most commonly known as gentlehue/jgracie/irlangelics <3 i wasnt gonna make a post like this for reasons i'll go thru under the cut but after having three of you reach out to me on pinterest i thought it'd be unfair to leave everyone in the dark 💗 tagging @luvusrry @findmeonvenus / @daystarpoet and @bloodwrittenletters thank u for checking up on me lovelies xx
okay so the main reason i deactivated yesterday was because i realised being on here was negatively impacting my productivity LOL as you all probably know (because i never shut up about it) im in my second to last year of high school and everything i do now and next year is what has the largest impact on what uni i get into which then has a pretty big impact on where i end up in the future basically LMAO 😭 my life is so busy these days between doing the whole ib itself which im still getting used to since the british system is so structured and tells you exactly what to do in comparison to ib where a lot of it is you doing your own thing & prepping for uni by researching diff courses and the lnat which is an exam i'll have to sit in order to apply to study law & also getting back into all my extracurricular/picking up new ones which is another thing i have to get used to since im SUCH an academically oriented person & a BUNCHHH of other things i wont be getting into rn 😭 and so i cannot afford to be lounging around in any way whatsoever right now!! this is the socmed app i spend the most time on and i tend to tell myself its ok cause im not replying to notifs im just scrolling which is so silly LOL but i need to eliminate that from my life soooo i left
a mini second reason why i left is smth thats gonna be rly hard for me to explain here & im pretty sure probs has smth to do w my ocd (another thing i dont rly like to talk ab that much so idk how many of u know this) but i have this thing where if something negatively impacts me or like if i have a negative association w it it becomes "imperfect" and i acc cannot have it around me like it physically disgusts me and i cant function or think or anything 😭 and thats what was happening w my tumblr account because of how it caused me soooo much procrastination and so little work done 😣 soz if this doesnt make any sense or if its weird but its smth ive had for years now and am slowly working on 😭 my perfectionism is so horrible too and tumblr makes it worse cause im always overthinking what my feed looks like 😫 like i cant have too many talking posts or too many asks or too many reblogs and im always doing them in a way that balances it out in my head and i spiral so bad over it 🙁
ANOTHER reason (wow lots of reasons) is cause ive begun to enjoy my real life so so much these days and dont want to be distracted by being online 😭 i love my friend group i love sixth form i love having a crush i love it all! a lot of my friends r graduating this year as well and so i probs wont be seeing them as often afterwards cause obvs theyre not all applying to unis in our city let alone our country !!! i dont wanna take this year for granted at ALL cause i'll so regret it if i do :(
the second thing im addressing is why i left w out saying anything LOL basically i knew if i posted smth and said my goodbyes i wouldn't commit to it at all 😭 and i need to seriously be disciplined w myself these days if i wanna be rich and traveling the world in 10 years 🫡
i dont know if i'll ever come back but im so so happy i got to know u all whether u knew me from jgracie or discovered me later on after i abandoned her im so glad i got to call u my lovely friends :) i carry a piece of you all wherever i go ♡ you know you'll always know me! i wont deactivate this account but i wont be active on it either unless i decide to fully come back, but if u send me an ask within this week i'll answer it xx
for those of you who are worried about my fics on jgracie, i made a backup account back in the summer and everything ive ever written is reblogged over there :) @cynarchives

Top 5 series on your backlog you're looking forward to trying
ohno I'm gonna get outed for just how many series I've been putting off despite genuinely wanting to read/watch/play. I'll try and limit it to five though
Umineko. I will finally be able to unblock the tag and understand the meta I've been seeing in my periphery for years. Technically speaking I did watch the anime years ago and got a couple of hours into the VN back then too, but it's been so long I've managed to forget most of it (minus the soundtrack which I will admit has been in my rotation since back then). I honestly want to see how much I can figure out for myself as I go through but am a bit wary I'll have collected enough disparate spoilers that I'll start overthinking stuff based on those spoilers and hare off down entirely the wrong track.
Outer Wilds. Mainly because what I've heard of it is enough to intrigue me (there's a mutual here and a couple of Discord acquaintances who all vouch for it) but also I'm almost entirely spoiler-free. And I'm really appreciating stuff where I can go in mostly blind lately because chronically overthinking based on outside sources rather than the material itself isn't something I find 'fun'.
Next! Calling myself out on this one preemptively but... I asked for Pokemon games as presents for a few years there and then ended up not getting around to playing them because life happened and/or procrastination? And recently I'm seeing loads of stuff around about the latest game and ended up watching some of the recent anime eps because Ash is leaving the series and, well, I've not been entirely disconnected from the series but for a long while my main connection was through PokeGo and other people. Long story short: gonna finally play Pokemon Sword/Shield four years late. (Once I've finished Great Ace Attorney so should only be another six months or s-
And if I like that one then Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is also on my list, especially now it sounds like the worst of the glitches have been worked out.
Some of the Doctor Who Big Finish stuff. Technically I have listened to some already but I got distracted one time during a boring one because I insisted I wanted to go through Eight's stuff 'in order' (as much as that's possible :V) and then never returned for months. But! I will definitely get around to listening to more so I can finally understand why everyone who listens to Scherzo becomes a Scherzo blog for the next week. All I know so far is stuff about a sound monster and some messed up dynamics involving love and suicide...? Which sounds intriguing. So I guess rather than Big Finish stuff in general it's more I want to get far enough along in my listening to listen to Scherzo with all the context behind it.

Understand your mercury sign ☿️
Aries Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you are quick-minded and you have a million things you want to do in your head, but because of that you might start some and never really finish them. However, that doesn't matter to you as long as you can move on to the next thing. You can connect the fast thinking mind with the physical world, so you always need to act on your ideas and thoughts to feel productive.
The way you speak: even if you might not be able to express your thoughts as good as you wish, as you can easily get distracted and feel like your words are sometimes child-like when you put them out, you have a great ability of leading through your words. Whenever you are in a good mood and you speak, there's so much enthusiasm and motivation in you that others get that energy as well. You might prefer expressing yourself through action or movement.
The way you learn: You learn best when you combine information with fun and directly through action. If you had to read a manual before crafting something, you'd rather just do the work and figure it out on the way. However, just as fast as you understand any concept you're learning, you also might forget it to make room for new things.
Taurus Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you might be thinking a lot about ways to improve yourself in terms of your job, your income or your self worth, so you always find solutions that get you closer to your goals. You might sometimes get stuck on certain ideas and you tend to not give up unless you do it your way. You think about your loved ones often and how to keep yourself and them happy.
The way you speak: you have a strong endurance when it comes to communicating, so you are able to listen clearly to others and be there for them in a practical way. When there's a subject that you highly resonate it, you can get stuck on some ideas in your head. When that happens, you have strong opinions and you speak honestly, without really caring of what others think.
The way you learn: you learn really quickly when you encounter a subject that you are passionate about. However, when you have to learn something new out of obligation you either procrastinate a lot or you learn it like a robot, then forget it all. You might sometimes feel like you process information slower than others, as you like to take your time and feeling rushed or pushed makes you close off a lot.
Gemini Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you are full of ideas and information, so there's never really a break to your brain. Sometimes you can find yourself remembering things that you did not know you ever memorized and it seems like your head has layers to it. You might also find that your way of thinking is often split into two ideas, two plans and sometimes find it difficult to choose from them.
The way you speak: you speak with a natural flow, you can speak for hours about any possible subject, as you have an infinite source of information coming and going. You might sometimes find it difficult to express your emotions as effectively as you wish in the moment, but when it comes to expressing ideas or generating solutions you are always reactive. You might be good at small talk, even if you are not a social person.
The way you learn: you are able to learn facts and to memorize information quite easily, sometimes you can surprise others with remembering the small details. You also learn really well through associating some subject to something you knew before, this helps you make complex connections. Debates are something that helps you memorize things better as well, there's nothing like a good talk on your hobbies.
Cancer Mercury ☿️
The way you think: even if you realize it or not, you often think about the other before your own, about what they need and what you can say in order to make the person feel integrated. This is because your way of thinking combines the mind with emotions and it turns thoughts into something more tangible, it connects it with feelings. That's why you might sometimes be feeling something intuitively before you actually start thinking about it.
The way you speak: you speak from a space of empathy, but you do not share all the information. You might say how you feel more easily than others, but you do it only when you feel safe enough with the person you are talking to and this gives a bit of a mystery to your speech. When you do open up and speak your emotions, they might come attached to the way you feel in that moment - with enthusiasm if excited or with tears if sad.
The way you learn: you learn best when you feel safe, you first have to make sure that you had a good meal and good sleep and that everything is all right in your life in order to be able and detach to learn something new. Your mood affects your learning abilities, but you always manage to finalize the things that are significant to you.
Leo Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you might not be stuck in your head as much, because you usually act on things quite quick. This makes you quite decisive and sometimes you can come off as dominant. Your thinking is usually quite empathic and you always try to figure out what you can do to contribute even more to your growth.
The way you speak: you likely have leadership qualities when it comes to your speech. Even if you consider yourself an introvert or not - you have this power to get the attention on you when you express your opinions. That is because you have confidence in your words and you know how to articulate them. You might sometimes go overboard and say some things that you don't mean, as this fire energy gives you an impulse to speak your mind. Self expression is important to you, so you likely communicate more by focusing on your hobbies and taking action, rather than just aimless words.
The way you learn: you learn best by yourself or within a group of people, you likely have a person to go to for whatever it is that you need and you can work together in order to reach your goals. When learning, you usually focus on the bigger picture and do not like to get lost in the details.
Virgo Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you are a deep thinker, but your thoughts are always practical, as problem solving comes naturally to you. Most of the times you think in a very logical way and you pay attention to the details in your environment - maybe so much so that you are able to anticipate other people's steps. You have a rich inner world and no one really knows how many thoughts go through your head everyday.
The way you speak: you speak honestly and directly, you are great at giving advice and that is one of the ways that you show the other person you care. This can sometimes make you seem rather critical, but in reality you are trying to help. People come to you when looking to solve a problem.
The way you learn: you learn best by writing things down, by making lists, by decluttering the place and by making sure that everything is in place whenever you work on something. The environment you are in can influence your ability to learn a lot and you usually are scared of making mistakes. You know yourself very well, so I am sure that you have in mind a way that works for you personally in terms of learning lol.
Libra Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you might be thinking a lot and most of the times your thoughts are not being expressed as much as you wish, as you always want to make sure that the other person feels appreciated by you. You have a mind that's set on fairness - understanding others behind the surface is something that keeps you thinking. This is why, you might have conflicting thoughts at times, as you would rather not choose between two things than make a choice and have it not be the right one or have it upset someone and create an imbalance.
The way you speak: you have a way with words - you are a great storyteller. You feed yourself through communication and you are great at making sweet compliments. No one does that anymore, right? You feel as if there's not enough support in the world and you want to be the one that makes a difference.
The way you learn: you again learn best through conversation - there's something about saying things out loud into a story that helps you memorize them better. Also, reading is something you might be enjoying or something that helps you while learning. Any subject that you find truly beautiful will get your attention and your engagement.
Scorpio Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you are grounded in your thinking, you enjoy being present and going about your everyday life to make sure that things are under control. You tend to overthink the things that get that spark going in you, you think about it all the time and you let it consume you and that's how you know how important it is to you. There's also a lot of feeling attached to your thinking - you may find yourself being affected by bad things happening in the world and isolate yourself. You like being by yourself though, in your thoughts.
The way you speak: there's a slight sarcasm when you communicate, but each word you say always has a hidden meaning to it, even if you realize it or not. You feel things intensely, but you do not show your feelings through your words very often, as you believe that feelings are not suppose to be spoken, but just felt.
The way you learn: when it comes to a subject you are passionate about, you become obsessed with it. You need to know all about it and you are great at research. Even for the more taboo subjects you will find information on. Sometimes people around you have no idea about some subjects that you are really passionate about.
Sagittarius Mercury ☿️
The way you think: your thinking is quite philosophical, you might be thinking about your place in this world a lot or you might be having strong morals and opinions. You are a believer and whatever that is that you believe in, you are all in it. You like seeing things from a more detached perspective and you never take everything as seriously as everyone does. You like exploring with your mind and seeing where your brain can go, but you don't analyze your behaviors all that much, you just live.
The way you speak: you speak with fire in your soul, you like debates and even heated arguments about concepts of the mind, the world, but when it comes to serious debates about yourself or another - you might feel like backing down. You think it's a waste of time to be speaking on negative emotions and you always stand up when you feel like your freedom is being attacked. You usually have a positive speech.
The way you learn: you learn through reading, you learn through experiencing things, you learn though traveling, you learn through storytelling. Anything that seems cool at the present moment will be what you decide to spend your time learning about, but you don't get too deep into details.
Capricorn Mercury ☿️
The way you think: you know your potential really well, even if you don't show it. This is why, you always think about how to reach that potential faster and how to advance in your career. You are actually quite sensitive deep down, so you might sometimes find yourself getting busy in order to ignore some emotions, but you cannot ignore thinking about them forever, so you eventually let your guard down.
The way you speak: you speak in a very thought-out and controlled way. You are the type of person that says things only when you have enough knowledge on the subject and if you feel like you need to learn more on it, you inform yourself. You like talking clearly and effectively and there's not really gossip involved in your talking, as you like focusing on yourself and don't have time for drama.
The way you learn: you learn best by making systems in your head. Firstly, you identify the time of day/modality that works best for you while learning and then you build up your own way. You are a constant learner of the things that help you get closer to your goals and that have to do with your career path. You learn well through courses, apps or any other tool you find interesting.
Aquarius Mercury ☿️
The way you think: your thinking is quite chaotic, as you might be thinking of something today and then change your mind tomorrow. You sometimes find your mind to be working differently than everyone else's, as you process information in your own unique way. Also, you tend to overthink your emotions a lot instead of just feeling them right at the moment.
The way you speak: you speak from a place of truth most of the times and if that means saying something that might be totally against the belief system of the group you are in, that's also okay, You love having a community or a group to chat to and exchange ideas, thoughts about the future and ways that you can improve yourself everyday.
The way you learn: you learn best through creativity, you probably have your own way of learning already or you will one day invent one. You either work better in a group environment or by yourself, there's no in between and sometimes when you know that the thing you learn about has a purpose and can help yourself or others in the future you give more attention to it.
Pisces Mercury ☿️
The way you think: sometimes you feel like you think so much that you create your own bubble and get disconnected with the world. For you, your mind is a place to go to when you want to escape and it's so imaginative and full of color that it sometimes feels like it's more fun than the actual world...which is true.
The way you speak: you speak poetically on a good day and you ramble on a bad day. You might have obstacles when speaking, just because you can never seem to put into words the intense emotions you feel through your brain. So, sometimes you might be wanting to say something and then when you do say it, it comes out as something else. However, there's this bubbly, sweet and supportive way of speaking to you, as you are good at being there for others through speech.
The way you learn: you learn best when you connect the words with your imagination, so let's say that you want to learn about mythology - you view yourself as being one of the characters or you imagine how their world looks like, feels like and sounds like. It's a whole painted picture when you put your mind to it.

hi! i was wondering if you have any tips to stay organized and stay on task? i’ve been doing a short online course this year and have really struggled to ACTUALLY bring myself to do the work, as assignments and lessons are not under any time constraints i just don’t do it. i also have adhd so get bored or distracted easily. do you have any tips for me?
This is really close to me because I also have ADHD. I have both inattentive and hyperactive type. *As a result, this academic tip guide will be a guide for people with ADHD and not neurotypical people, without disability. There is a difference.*
I am doing online as well this semester.
1. I create a schedule. If I do not create a schedule, I will be unproductive the entire day. So, what will help you is to do things in orderly fashion.
For example, at 12p - I will do this assignment/watch this lecture. You have to dictate what time you’re doing everything. Then, you also have to block out technology distractions while you are working.
-> Even if you’ve gotten halfway through the day with no schedule, write down or block off times on your digital calendar for what you are going to do at each time. ADHD is easier to tackle if you break things down into smaller tasks.
*Pro tip that I almost forgot: before you do anything, wear your day clothes. Don’t wear pajamas. Actually getting dressed or even doing hair/makeup changes things.
2. Download the Forest app after you have created your schedule. I consistently recommend this because it works in increasing productivity. It allows you to set it for however long you’re doing this task, say 30 minutes.
-> Why?: It will block all apps on your phone for (insert time here) to plant a tree, and if you leave the app your “tree” will die. Eventually, the more sessions you do, the more points you will gain to plant different plants, and eventually plant real trees around the world.
3. Have a list (& a planner) as well. Not only is the schedule creating structure, but the list creates even more structure so you know what you need to get done for the day. It also helps you not fall victim to the classic symptom of forgetting. Each day, you should write down what you WANT to get done and create your own times to look at lecture and assignments. Have goals for the day.
For example: complete assignment 2.
If you do not have expectations with yourself before the day begins, your ADHD will kind of take over and do something else. I have structure to my day. I set a timer to wake up at the same time. I take my ADHD medicine 90 minutes before my final wake up time, and I do my morning routine once it kicks in. Having the same routine helps.
-> Focus on your goals. Don’t be super harsh about the times.
-> Don’t overwhelm with how many things on to do list. Again, break it up into small tasks. For example, one part being: Wash dishes or fold laundry. It makes it less overwhelming to your brain and gives you a choice of which task. Typical non ADHD people just tell you to prioritize tasks but that doesn’t work for us. Do it in a random order and it gets the job done.
4. TAKE BREAKS! The other side to this is making sure that you give yourself adequate breaks.
*For hyperfocus, wait til your hyperfocus has started to wear off. Use it to your advantage for peak productivity. It is no joke.*
-> The misconception is that some people with ADHD are lazy and as a result, some ADHDers won’t take breaks. You can take a break. Healthy, long breaks do more for you long term.
-> Have a timer set. For example, after a 45 minute session or an hour session, I will take a break to do another task that has nothing to do with studying, like laundry, eating a snack, or stretching. Then after that task is done, I will go back to studying.
5. Have a workspace. Only do work at this space. I do schoolwork at my living room table and it is perfect. I do not study in my room because that is my sanctuary for relaxation and rest, not productivity. Make an effort to make the workspace clean, with your supplies - laptop, notebooks, pens, etc - readily available.
-> Once I get to my workspace, everything for the morning is already done. I’ve done my morning routine, so all there is left to do is hydrate while I study.
6. Recognize if you have adequate energy to do the task. Sometimes, with ADHD you may neglect your needs. If you are not getting enough rest, here are some tips:
•Bed should be for rest only.
•Blackout curtains
•Lavender essential oil, I have a diffuser but you can also put it on your pillow
•Background noise: pick what you want, lo fi music, rain sounds, binaural beats, singing bowls
•If all else fails, ADHD is often comorbid with other illnesses, meaning you could have a form of depression causing insomnia for example. This should be considered if you are having long term issues and symptoms.
7. Don’t overdo it. We are not neurotypical. Executive dysfunction is real - meaning our brains actually shut down when it perceives a task to be mundane.
-> You do not have to fit everything into one schedule for the sake of being “productive”. Each day should be what you know you can do, and there are different days to tackle different goals.
-> When you feel like you cannot continue, which is literally a symptom of ADHD, sit still for a few minutes.
8. Have a “What I Did Today” List. Because of how ADHD actually makes us feel, we don’t realize how much work we have put in. ADHD actually can be explained easily, we have about 2 dopamine workers showing up to work while most people are at maximum capacity. We are working overtime to do our best, even on medicine. So, acknowledging what we did today is good and encouraging, or at least reflecting in a journal.
9. Play music. It’s recommended to play study music without words because with ADHD we will submerge ourselves into the playlist of nostalgic 90s R&B. I recommend lo fi hip hop on YouTube, video game instrumentals, classical music, or jazz instrumentals. Whatever gets you going just do it!
General ADHD tips:
•Rewrite lecture notes and type the lecture notes.
•Color code with bright colors and pretty drawings or calligraphy
•Instead of telling yourself “I need to take notes” which usually leads to procrastination say “Rewrite lecture notes and emphasize main points” ... this is useful in your to do list but in everyday goals
•Generally try to get your assignments done ahead of time if there is structure to certain courses, if not, again, stick to the schedule. If you slip one day off your schedule then don’t beat yourself up. Breathe!!!
•Side effect of most ADHD meds is that you’re not hungry so buy easy things to eat like muscle milk or yogurt and granola or smoothies so you can sustain yourself
•Get a dry erase board to show what you need to do for the day and put it on the fridge with command strips
•To avoid forgetting things, put them at a table near the door where you leave your apartment/dorm/house.
•Don’t overthink the time it takes to get ready, often that’s why ADHDers are late. Better to be super early than late though - have a routine set so you know how long each task takes - for example “I know a shower takes me 15 mins, washing my face takes 60 seconds and a few more including sunscreen/moisturizer, etc...”
•In that same grain, set timers for going to the bathroom, showering, etc just in case you one day hyperfocus and push yourself too far
•Open the blinds!!!!
•Clean your room and tidy up your space. A cluttered space impacts your mental health in a really negative way. Your space reflects your mental state at times as well, so check in with yourself. Have a specific day where you know you’re going to clean, but ADHD sometimes gives us bursts of cleaning so take advantage of that as well.
•Anytime your water bottle empties refill it. Have your water bottle or mason jar next to your workspace, and drink 5-10 gulps. Seriously. ADHD depends a lot on hydration, especially if you are on medicine which naturally dehydrates you. If you do not stay hydrated, you’ll get that massive headache mid day and crash sooner. A lot of times, lack of productivity can be due to not drinking enough water.
•If you don’t take medication, then sometimes you may notice you love coffee, and that’s because it’s a stimulant. Too much of anything is not good, but balance it with water. If you’re going to use coffee to kinda “medicate” then do it close to when you’re going to be productive.
•Setting yourself up to do a task rather than envisioning the overwhelming act of doing the entire action. “Okay, lets just get up and get the first step down, such as opening the laptop or wetting the toothbrush.” Baby steps.
•Take advantage of accommodations! Your college more than likely has an Office of Disability Services. Also, email your professors...they’re actually just as stressed as you about classes being online.
•Remember that you’re already trying as hard as you can, so don’t listen to the narrative of “try harder”, “you’re *r word*”, “you’re cheating by using medication”, “just do it,” “it’s easy,” “what’s so hard about it?” or “you’re lazy”. Anyone telling you that, even yourself, is wrong. And DO NOT allow anyone to be ableist, even yourself.
•Validate yourself. Don’t let anyone to do the “I experience that too”/“I know what you mean”/“we ALL have trouble with this!” and they don’t have ADHD. No. It’s our experience, it’s valid, and unlike anything on the planet. If you’re reading this and you don’t have ADHD - no, you do not experience any of the things in my next bullet point.
•Don’t be hard on yourself if you stumble along the way getting this right. ADHD completely changes your executive functioning.
We see the task, but our brain blocks it.
We have something marked down as “important” but our brain tosses it out in the “trash”.
We watch an entire episode of a show, but our brain ignored the entire thing. Our brain picks and chooses what is stimulating, our brain changes our interests.
We have sensory overload, we have no dopamine, we have bursts of curiosity that cannot be contained (often inconvenient) and if interrupted, our brains cannot take it.
People often discount how many things ADHD actually changes because it’s widely misunderstood. I want to take the time to acknowledge that ADHD, formerly known as simply ADD, has different types: primarily inattentive, primarily hyperactive-impulsive, or combined which is what I have. So it’s not “hyper” and “relatable”. It is also not a buzzword to use to describe things. I must put stereotypes and misrepresentations of ADHD to rest.
It impacts us emotionally as well, which most people don’t know... such as rejection dysphoria — extreme sensitivity to being criticized to where our brains self destruct. Our brains don’t regulate emotions well.
ADHDers - do not fall victim to how everyone else operates and call yourself a failure. We have to work twice as hard and the results actually come out brilliant especially with our determination and imaginative ideas that are also seen in autistic individuals, honorable mention!
There’s good days and bad days. There’s literal changes in thinking that other people do not experience. We all collectively know wouldn’t be who we are without ADHD, but we all recognize the challenges. However, it makes me happy to see messages like this so that I can make a difference and hopefully help one person with ADHD, especially of color, at a time stop being so hard on themselves. 💗

Salt & Snow - Chapter 6
Ships: Ned Stark x Reader, Brandon Stark x Reader (?)
Summary: Ned finally returns to his childhood home, to the happiness of his siblings and Y/N ... though she’s also beside herself with nerves. As it turns out, the two of them are awkward teenagers.
Use this chrome extension to replace “Y/N” with a different name :)
“That’s the last of it, milord.” The servant tightened the leather straps on the wooden trunk, ensuring they were secure. Once satisfied, he nodded to the guide that would be taking the young Lord Stark down the mountain. The man was withered, but he expertly steered his mules, or so they said. Ned hadn’t realized how many possessions he’d collected in his years in the Eyrie, and felt bad for making the beasts carry so much.
The old mountain guide said it was fine, and it wouldn’t unbalance them. “You worry about stayin’ on that mule, milord. When’s the last time you descended?”
He thought about it. “Four years, mayhaps more.”
“Aye, it’s much the same. It’s still spring, it will warm quickly as we go down.” The old man guided him to one of the mules, a shaggy, dark brown one with long ears. Ned thought it was cute in an ugly way, and climbed up. He kept his eyes forward, ignoring how the Eyrie hung above them. He remembered the first time he climbed up here, terrified he’d fall the entire way, and then afraid the Eyrie would somehow fall from the sky and plummet to the ground.
I’ll be the one doing the plummeting, if this beast missteps. Ned was mostly, probably confident that wouldn’t happen. He wondered what sort of mule they gave Robert, the beast of a man. He couldn’t imagine his friend sitting quietly for the better part of the day. That thought made him smile a little, and sigh. Robert left a month ago, and now it was his turn. It was a bittersweet goodbye to Robert and then to Lord Arryn. The first month I couldn’t stop thinking about Winterfell, how I wanted to go back. It hurts to leave now.
It hurt, but it was time to go. He wanted to see his family again, to see Winterfell, and the godswood, and Wintertown and the forest surrounding them. He’d smell pines and fresh earth again — gods know the Eyrie sorely lacked in both — and the animals that ran through those woods. He wondered what had changed, what was the same.
Suddenly, Ned recalled a letter where Y/N described the repairs on one of the towers, the old one that was slowly crumbling. That made him remember the last one he sent, and he covered his face with a groan.
“Doing well, milord?” The guide asked, looking back. “Don’t look down.”
Ned merely nodded, glad the guide and the other servants were too busy navigating to notice his stupid face. Why had he written that? Why did he send it? She must be think he was an utter fool. She hadn’t even sent anything back yet.
No, letters are slow to the Eyrie, and I’m leaving, besides — perhaps it was lost.
The thought of Lord Arryn receiving it and sending it back was mortifying, even if the man would never read it. For days Ned’s mind had been racing about Robert’s departure, his own journey, and the stupid words he wrote down. He’d repeated them so many times in his head, hoping he was misremembering.
He groaned and laid his head on the neck of the mule. It smelled awful, but he stayed there. Y/N must have thought him a complete fool, how would he face her once he came home? It would be a long, long journey.
What in the seven hells did he mean by that?
Y/N stared at the words, her eyes running over them, which was a pointless act. She’d memorized these lines in particular, able to recall them in spite of her attempts to keep busy. She hadn’t responded, because how could she? Anytime she sat down and began to dab her quill, the butterflies battered against her stomach. She’d set her quill on the page, watching the ink soak into the paper, but Y/N only managed a few sentences before fumbling, misspelling a word, dripping ink everywhere and just giving up. She’d thrown several pages into the fire already.
I’m being ridiculous, I’m overthinking. Aren’t I? Hasn’t he always said kind things to me? Why is this different?
A week ago, Y/N dug through her box of letters saved over the years, hoping to assure herself. That was a mistake. She read through things she’d forgotten, phrases she remembered, looked over the little drawings he attempted, and her butterflies became relentless. She had to put the letters away and spent the entire day flustered and distracted.
She rubbed at her face and sighed heavily. She put the letter out of sight, knowing it wouldn’t be out of mind for a while. She ought to stop procrastinating, to send something back already; it’d been almost three weeks. Or was it four? She’d been procrastinating with everything imaginable — long boring books, needlework, studying maps, playing music, even riding.
I have to answer eventually. I really am thinking too much. Just write something safe! Something boring!
Instead of doing that, Y/N left her room and looked for something to do. Perhaps if she could talk about her feelings it would help, but she couldn’t. Not even to Lyanna. Her friend had stopped reading the letters, preferring to send her own, and Y/N was sure they weren’t as frequent… That, and she couldn’t imagine letting anyone read what she wrote or drew now.
Is it strange, how often we write? Has anyone noticed? A little voice nagged at Y/N. She and Ned were well past the age of innocent friendly correspondence. She didn’t speak much about it, secretly worried she’d be told to stop. The idea of getting “caught” wasn’t pleasant, but the idea of stopping was worse. The correspondence had become a comfort, a way to raise her spirits, warmth and confidence in her heart. She understood how some would find that emotion improper.
A servant hurried past Y/N, nearly hitting her and knocking her right out of her thoughts. The boy called an apology and kept running. In the great hall, she saw half a dozen men moving boxes, and one of the elder servants giving them orders. Savory smells came from the kitchen, and peaking inside, Y/N saw the cooks and their girls busy chopping and stewing.
She tried to recall the last time Winterfell was this abuzz. The death of Lady Stark cast a dreary curtain over the castle, and while it was gradually lifting, a feast still felt out of place. Brandon was away again, but there was never a big to-do for his return.
“Found you!” Lyanna called to her, and Y/N jumped. It was absurd how much she’d been lost in her head as of late. She was glad Lyanna didn’t tease her; instead, the girl asked, “Why is everyone so restless today?”
“I was just thinking that. Did you see the kitchens? I can’t imagine why we’d need so much sausage and stew.”
“They’re making dessert, too! I’d ask my father, but I can’t find him anywere.” As they talked, Lyanna and Y/N walked outside to one of the many yards inside Winterfell’s walls. Just like inside, there was a flurry of activity, things being moved and cleaned. Lyanna said half the horses had been taken, perhaps on a hunt for fresh stag. A sudden thought struck her, and she turned on her heels to face Y/N, nearly knocking the girl over in the process. “Y/N, what if… what if my father finally decided—?”
“He didn’t,” Y/N replied instantly. “He would tell you, Lyanna. It won’t be a surprise. Maybe something happened and he’s gathering some bannermen on short notice; maybe it’s about Brandon’s wedding. He has been gone for the better part of a month.”
“That’s all true,” Lyanna said, although she didn’t sound comforted. “Perhaps Father is entertaining some ladies for him. Oh, gods, we’ll have to make smalltalk with them…”
They sat on one of the many carts strewn about the yard, following the activity. Predictably, Y/N’s mind wandered to Ned, and she kept her sigh from escaping. She glanced at Lyanna, half-listening to her friend chatter about a hedge knight that visited months ago. He showed off some jousting in the yard for their amusement, and Lyanna was still enamored. Y/N’s thoughts were wholly preoccupied with the terrifying idea of telling her about the letters, the ones that had gradually become far less proper and more personal.
Suddenly Lyanna asked, “Did you have any plans today?”
“I have a feeling if I did, you’d pull me away.” Y/N said. “Why?”
“Do you still have your old brown cloak?”
Those grey eyes were gleaming with some sort of mischief. Perhaps it was the restlessness of the people around them, or her own anxious thoughts… but rather than steer away from trouble, Y/N turned toward it.
There were small collections of cottages directly outside the walls of Winterfell, mostly farmers and butchers who directly served the castle, and offered board to travelers during the large feasts. But if someone really wanted to find something interesting, they’d go to Wintertown. These were the more prosperous smallfolk, the merchants, innkeeps, blacksmiths, and so on. There was even a small sept, although most Northern townspeople had little use for it. Y/N had come here only a dozen times; to go, she and Lyanna would need an escort, and Brandon wasn’t eager to follow two silly girls around.
As far as they were concerned, the matter of an escort was silly now that they were women. Lyanna had no fear as she put on an old cotton dress and her grey cloak, while Y/N wore her brown and black dress she saved for riding and a deep blue cloak. Y/N tucked her pearl and jewelry away, and Lyanna pulled her own dark brown hair out of its braid until it was all around her shoulders, wild and free. The girls snuck quietly out into the yard, avoiding servants and guards, then drew their hoods up once they reached the gates. They waited, then Y/N pointed. Three sworn guards were distracted with a complaining merchant, and they slipped past the gate.
Once outside, they kept their hoods up, but giggled to one another. After walking a mile, they came across a farmer on the way to Wintertown, and asked if they could ride in his cart. The old man squinted at them, trying to focus his gaze.
“Are ye girls the swineherder’s daughters? Jeyne and … Milly, was it?”
“That’s our names. Can you take us to town?” Lyanna asked, putting on a false voice. When the old man agreed, she grinned so broadly, Y/N had to nudge her and give her a warning look. They hopped into the back of the cart and chatted while it swayed and hobbled along. The last time, it was an hour of walking before a cart passed by.
It’s good to see her like this, happy again. Y/N thought, glancing to her friend as Lyanna chatted. It’s been a dreary six moons. Or has it been longer?
Lyanna hadn’t been herself the whole time. Since her mother died, everything was bleaker. For the first moon, she just wanted to stay inside. After that she’d go out riding for hours at a time, and for once, Lord Stark didn’t scold her for it. Sometimes she’d rage, pick fights with Brandon or a guardman’s boy. Sometimes she’d just stay in bed. Those days were always the bad ones, Y/N knew, and she’d stay with her, writing or drawing or doing needlework while Lyanna laid there.
They’d get far worse than a scolding if they were caught at this game, but she just wanted Lyanna to be happy again. Wintertown was in sight, and they thanked the old man and hopped off his cart, too excited to wait for his mules to take them any farther. Y/N took Lyanna’s arm so they’d at least stay together, and they were off.
Just like the last time they visited, the town was buzzing. Thoughts of Ned’s words and Lyanna’s sadness quickly faded in the back of Y/N’s mind as they followed whatever interested them. A girl half their height was herding a group of sheep through the middle of a wide street, a woman was selling bolts of impossibly colorful fabric and thread, a blacksmith was loudly working on a sword. The girls watched all of it.
“Wait!” Y/N patted Lyanna’s arm excitedly, distracting her from the molten-hot red sword and the hammer that was beating down on it. “Do you see that?” She pointed.
Lyanna squinted. “That stall over there?”
“Yes, let’s hurry! Maybe he still has some!”
“What are you talking about?” Lyanna laughed, but followed along. She quickly realized why Y/N was so excited: There was a variety of colorful, fresh vegetables, but more importantly… fruit.
“You buying?” The man asked warily, mistaking them for the lowborn girls they were dressed as. Back in their bedchamber, Y/N had to remind Lyanna to tuck away her direwolf pin. “I’m selling, not giving. You girls got coin?”
Y/N ignored his tone and asked, “Are these from White Harbor? My father worked the docks.”
“That so? He on one of the merman’s ships, or the ray’s?”
“The manta ray, at the Whitetide docks.”
The man grinned, showing some missing teeth. He nodded his head like he was familiar with this mystery sailor. “Aye, with Lord Caspian’s fleet? His ships are good ones. These fruit come all the way from Dorne and the Arbor, but they’re still fresh.”
Y/N could see that. Her heart was racing at the sight of peaches, oranges, limes, figs… of course, Lyanna’s eyes went straight to the lemons. She giggled and shook her head. “They’re better when they’re baked in cakes. Have you had an orange before?”
“Never. Let’s get some. Four, if we could?” Lyanna asked the man, and he handed them over. Four was all he had, and Y/N paid, feeling a little sorry for taking so many. She wondered if the common folk could afford fruits. This cold preserved them well.
They walked around the market idly, more interested in the treats they just acquired. Y/N taught Lyanna how to peel the orange and the wolf-girl was delighted with how sweet and juicy they were. “This is wonderful! Why aren’t we baking these into cakes?”
“I suppose someone tried, and it didn’t work out well,” Y/N mused. “My mother liked to squeeze them into her water, or she’d just drink the juice itself. When you preserve the peels and dry them, you can scatter them amongst your things to make them smell good.” She thought about her mother’s hugs, and her favorite parlor, and the strong smell of citrus and exotic flowers that permeated both. She was a Northern woman, but took to the wonders of Dorne and Essos and the Reach, little treasures brought in on her husband’s ships. It was how her father courted her: With baskets of fruit, tropical flowers, strings of pearls and giant conch shells. Y/N smiled, remembering how her mother lit up when she told her about it.
“I can promise you, my little pearl, one day you will have such kindnesses paid by someone who truly adores you.”
“You know so many things. All I know is passable dancing, and horses.” Lyanna said, breaking Y/N’s reverie, of which she was grateful for. The Stark girl rubbed at her chin where some juices at dribbled, and Y/N handed her a handkerchief.
“You know swords and lances well.”
“Aye, but I’m not allowed to use them.” Lyanna frowned, but it didn’t look like her mood was lowering. She eagerly bit into a second orange instead. Y/N sighed and put the handkerchief back into her reticule.
“Can I have the peels?” She asked.
“Are you going to put them into my riding boots?”
“Gods, I’d need a bushel to mask that scent.”
Lyanna didn’t want to throw her precious orange, so she settled for lunging and chasing Y/N instead. Y/N shrieked and ran, glad for the headstart: Lyanna had to chew and swallow her orange pieces properly before tearing after her. Lyanna’s old dress was short enough that she didn’t have to pull up the skirts, but Y/N had the lighter cloak. She shrieked again as Lyanna grasped for it, but missed. “I’ll get you for that!” The girl hollered. “Come back, Y/N!”
They laughed and chased each other around the town like children, and no one cared. Some older women noticed and scowled, and a few children laughed and followed for a while, but no one stopped them. No one grabbed their ears and admonished them for the messy hair, dirty clothes and sticky orange-flavored fingers. They were little girls again, not proper ladies of five and ten, daughters of Stark and Caspian.
Y/N stopped suddenly, then yelped as Lyanna tackled her to the ground. She squirmed and coughed. “Lyanna! You’ll kill me!”
“Don’t start fights you can’t finish!” Lyanna responded. She realized Y/N was still winded and moved off her. “Oh, are you hurt?”
“No,” Y/N sat up and blinked the dust out of her eyes. Satisfied, Lyanna flicked an orange peel at her. Y/N picked it off her lap and ate it. Lyanna made a face, like Y/N just ate the peel of a lemon — then she remembered she saw her friend do that, too.
“Do you hear that?” Y/N asked. It was the entire reason she stopped. Both girls kept still and listened. They were on the edge of Wintertown, their game taking them to the very end of it. Out here was a few modest homes and small gardens, a crumbling wall, and the road leading to Winterfell.
“Horses,” Lyanna said. She listened. “Several of them, moving at once. It’s probably a retinue.”
“Is it Brandon? I can’t recall when he was supposed to come home.”
“It would be bad for Brandon to find us like this and tell father,” Lyanna said, but she laughed. She was like her old self today. Suddenly, she said, “Oh. We should have saved an orange for Ben.”
“But not Brandon?”
“His Lordliness can get fruit whenever he wants. He can ride to the Reach and pick it himself.” Lyanna scoffed. She stood up, pulled Y/N to her feet and they both dusted their dresses and cloaks off. The horses were closer now, easy to hear without them staying quiet. It had to be Brandon, or a nearby lord. It was too much commotion for farmers bringing food.
The girls walked to the crumbling wall and crouched down, eager to peek at the banners. They weren’t foolish enough to openly stare, even if this was Wintertown, they weren’t entirely safe. Y/N had a vague thought that Lyanna might have a dagger in her boot, but that wasn’t real protection. She kicked herself for not bringing something of her own, even if she had no idea how to use it.
“They’re taking their time,” Lyanna muttered. “Has to be a lord. A lordling wouldn’t bring so many wagons, and a merchant wouldn’t be so slow. If it is Brandon, let’s throw rocks.”
“Let’s not.”
“Fine, a single rock. I won’t hit his horse, she deserves better. It could always be Ser Roderick, or the Pooles. Maybe even Cerwyn —”
Y/N pulled her back, lower against the stone wall. “Shh.”
Two horses passed, carrying modestly protected Northern guards. Then four more guards followed, dressed in different leather and armor. Y/N squinted, not recognizing the arms on their surcoats. It wasn’t anyone sworn to House Stark. Then, what they wanted: The banners.
One man held a direwolf, and another one held a blue falcon. Lyanna shot up, and Y/N stumbled, as she was still holding onto her.
Then she looked up, and jumped to her feet just as Lyanna had. They both stared.
It was Brandon, as they guessed, and someone else. They rode ahead, followed by a few more men, one of them a fully-armored knight who wore the crest of a sky-blue and white falcon.
“Ned!!”
Lyanna was gone. She tore across a small field to the road, and the guards stopped all at once, their hands flying to their hips. That action snapped Y/N to attention, but she could only stand and stare. She watched the boy — no, young man — beside Brandon turn in his saddle, and his grey eyes lit up with surprise and happiness.
Y/N thought someone was sitting on her chest, then something was trying to get out of it. She was choked up, the world was spinning, and she could barely hear the words Lyanna, Ned and Brandon were all saying. Lyanna nearly jumped up on the horse, but Ned swiftly dismounted. He only had a moment before he was being strangled in a hug.
Brandon got down from his horse and said something to the guards. The horses shook their heads at the commotion but Lyanna shouted again, and two of the knights laughed, and Y/N was still.
Then Ned looked up over his sister’s head, and met eyes with her. Y/N took a step forward, then another. She forgot she was wearing an old dress, a cloak that was now dirty from running about, that her hair was out of a normally tamed and styled braid. Ned held out his hand, as though she was close and not ten or fifteen feet away.
Y/N shyly walked down the field to the road, trying not to look at the guards, or Brandon. Lyanna pulled away from Ned and grabbed her arm, pulling her the last two feet. “What are you doing, Y/N? Come over here!”
She was pushed in front of him. He was different in some ways, but not many. Brandon towered above him and Lyanna was just a little shorter. Y/N smiled at that, but quickly looked to her hands, which smelled of oranges and still had a little stickiness on them.
“It’s good to see you again,” Y/N could only say. She thought of all the clever and interesting words she sent before, and how they were failing her horribly now. Her mind scrambled for something to say, something she had written before, something good, but it was all jumbled.
She didn’t look at Ned as he replied, “It’s good to see you too, Y/N.”
It was quiet, like they were the only ones, but that was quickly interrupted. Brandon was beside them, loudly teasing, “It’s Lady Y/N, brother. I thought the South was supposed to teach you all those stuffy manners.”
“She’s always been Y/N to us,” Lyanna rolled her eyes. “More importantly, were you and father keeping this a secret?”
Her brother replied with a small smile. “Yes, it… it was supposed to be a surprise. I never imagined we’d meet you here.”
“And why are you two here?” Brandon crossed his arms. His good humor quickly left, as if he just took in their location and their clothes. He looked at Lyanna, then Y/N, and kept his attention on the latter. “Did you sneak out without a guard? Do you know how dangerous that can be? And why are you dressed like that?”
Y/N self-consciously pulled at her cloak as he questioned them, remembering the state she was in. Brandon’s words didn’t bother her, it was the realization that Ned hadn’t seen her in years, and this is what he saw as soon as he came back. Didn’t I have silly daydreams of him seeing me in the gown I made, or a new one? Why am I even thinking about that?
She was glad Lyanna and Brandon got into a little spat, to hide her embarrassment. She stepped behind Lyanna, half to shield herself, half to put some distance between her and Ned. She was steadily being overcome with an urge to hug him — wouldn’t that be natural? He was home now, but … it wasn’t that simple. So, she kept at Lyanna’s side, redirecting her attention on calming her friend.
“When I tell father about this, he’ll have words to say, especially since tonight he wants to hold a feast —”
“— If you tell him, I’ll tell about all that extra time you spend at the Rills!”
“It’s my job as heir to visit our bannermen and listen to their grievances!”
“Oh, yes, the pretty Ryswell daughters have much to say, I’m sure —”
Brandon went red and was ready to retort hotly, when Ned cleared his throat. He inclined his head to the men around them, all visibly impatient. Ned himself had some of that energy as he said, “Let’s go home.”
The way he said it, how could anyone continue to argue? Brandon stopped at once, knowing it had been years since his little brother had seen Winterfell properly. He patted him affectionately on the back, and Lyanna beamed. Y/N met eyes with Ned again, and they both turned away.
Brandon took his horse’s bridle. “Whose riding with whomst?”
“I’ll ride with Ned!” Lyanna blurted excitedly, and disappointment shot through Y/N so quickly, she felt a little sick. Don’t be stupid. That’s her brother, and she’ll just quarrel with Brandon, besides.
Brandon offered her a hand and easily swept her up on his horse. He asked if she was comfortable before swinging up himself, settling in like it was as easy as sitting in a chair. The problem is he put her in front, so his arms were loosely around her as he gathered his reins. Nervous as she was around these beasts, Y/N almost preferred riding behind him, although that was not always considered proper for a lady. Y/N had to hold onto him, especially with how far up she was. Brandon had a fine old destrier, once a great warhorse, still mighty and tall in her old age. She was perfect for taking him around the North, but Y/N thought she was entirely too big.
Lyanna happily settled in behind Ned instead of in front of him. Again, Y/N met his eyes. He had expressions that said so much, especially since he himself said little. She couldn’t read this one, though. Brandon called out, “Move on!” and the small escort went on the road. Y/N was thankful for the easy pace, and the steady gait of the destrier.
Her nervousness slowly settled as the four of them made conversation, with the Vale knight occasionally speaking up. Before long, the walls of Winterfell appeared before them, the proud white banners flying above. Ned looked up at the direwolf, and Y/N could swear some fatigue just melted right off him. The gates opened, and the guards keeping their station happily called to the boys, not noticing the state Lord Stark’s daughter and his ward were in. By the time their escort entered the yard, several servants, men-at-arms and children had come to see Ned come home.
Benjen pushed through all of them, eagerly running at his older brother. There was no shortage of hugs as Lyanna, Benjen and Ned reunited, while Brandon helped Y/N off the horse. Unlike his oldest brother, Benjen hadn’t developed an avoidance to his sister and her companion. He was only two years younger than them, and looked hurt as he said, “You all met him without me!”
“It was supposed to be a surprise,” Ned said again. “I crossed Brandon on the road by chance, and then these two—”
“Isn’t it a wonderful coincidence?” Lyanna grinned. She was still standing close to Ned, all but hanging off him. Y/N allowed Benjen to squeeze past her to get to Ned.
While the three chattered, Y/N asked Brandon, “You truly didn’t know? Where were you coming from?”
“Returning from the Karstarks. Father didn’t tell me a thing.”
Lyanna and Benjen began dragging Ned to the great hall, and now servants and guards started gathering, having realized who he was and all were eager to see him. Y/N smiled, pleased he was so missed and only slightly glad he was moving further from her. She was anxious of what would happen if they were in a small group again, or worse, alone. She almost wanted to stay behind, but Brandon called to her, lingering back so she could catch up.
Being alone happened far sooner than Y/N anticipated.
The next morning, she stepped carefully through the snow, watching for roots just slightly sticking out. The sun was beginning to peak over the stone walls, helping her navigate the quiet yard. This route wasn’t yet familiar to her. She’d only made it recently, and often without Lyanna. Her friend wanted to mourn in quiet.
Y/N descended into the crypts. She shuddered instantly, feeling a far stronger cold take hold of her. Her footsteps echoed off the stone and she walked steadily toward her destination, passing statues of long dead Lord Starks and their sons.
Lady Lyarra did not have a sculpted sepulcher, but she had a beautiful tomb and marker for her bones. Y/N held her reticule close, bringing it to her nose so she could smell the crisp, dried oranges and give herself peace of mind. She hadn’t even visited her own family’s crypt.
She gasped as the shadows shuddered, nearly dropping the dried peels. The torches were scattered about, some not lit, making the shadows grow and recede with every second. She heard something just a few feet away.
Y/N bit down a curse as Ned came into view, the shadows circling around him. He blinked at her, his grey eyes almost looking black in the limited light.
“Y/N?”
“Y-You scared me,” She shuddered. “I didn’t — I didn’t think there would be anyone here.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I…” Y/N paused. She couldn’t seem to steady her heart, not with Ned looking directly at her. He was so much taller than before. She turned away. “I wanted to pay my respects. To give a gift.”
He didn’t respond right away. Y/N thought of the letters, of the reassurances, the kindnesses she sent him when he finally heard the news of his mother’s passing.
Why was it failing her now? She squeezed the fabric bag between her fingers.
“You brought something for her?” Ned asked quietly. “Could I see?”
Y/N nodded. She stepped closer, but not enough to feel any warmth from him. The cold of the crypt was cooling her nerves. “Orange peels. I dried them. They… they smell nice.”
She felt foolish, but he smiled. It was slight, but it was there.
“This way.” He said. He took a torch off the wall and led her deeper in. Y/N forgot how far it truly was. The Starks had been dying for centuries, and soon they would have to dig deeper into the cave to make space for the future generations. Lyarra was buried next to her parents, neither of who had a statue either.
There were fresh blue roses on the grave, and older, smaller blossoms that had begun to dry and decay. Y/N recalled Benjen brought those. She arranged the orange peels neatly, happy with the fragrance they gave off in addition to the roses. Ned must have brought those.
She quietly prayed, and Ned kept quiet beside her, perhaps joining her, perhaps not. When she finished, her hands fell to her side. Her cold, bare fingers brushed with Ned’s, and she felt the soft wool of his gloves. His finger hooked around one of her’s, and she curled it.
“Ned, I don’t presume to know your feelings, but I can only imagine how much you must hurt. If I could only help — if you were only right here, instead of far away —”
“When I home come, I want to see you, and do all the things we said we would do. I want to watch you paint, and dance, and maybe ride a horse — because I know Lyanna will make us — but most of all, I want to hear your voice.”
Y/N felt her throat was dry, but she stayed put, wondering if her heartbeat could be heard bouncing off the walls. She knew if she looked at him, even with a glance, she’d lose all composure and just run away.
She almost did that, when a loud noise made them both jump nearly two feet apart. Ned instantly took her hand back to push her behind him, then touched his sword. He grasped the hilt and lifted it just an inch out of the scabbard.
“Gods!” Y/N let out a hard breath. The skinny orange cat that knocked the unlit brazier over. It didn’t have coal in it, but it still made a terrible racket. The cat hissed and ran back into the shadows.
“I see he’s still here,” Ned mumbled. He set his sword back, and his shoulders were still tight. “Damned creature.”
“He gets lost down here so often. If he were kinder, I’d carry him out.”
“If it’s the same orange cat from when I was a boy, he’d rather freeze to death than be touched for even a moment.”
Silly smiles graced their faces, in spite of where they were, in spite of why they came in the first place. Ned nervously touched the hilt of his sword. “Shall we return?”
As they stepped out of the crypt, Y/N had to lift her skirts to climb the stairs easier. Ned offered his hand, and she took it for the last few steps. He didn’t immediately let go, and she didn’t comment on it. Instead she asked, “Did they make you learn those manners in the South?”
“There’s all sorts of manners and noble bearing they expect. It’s exhausting,” Ned admitted with a shy expression, and Y/N couldn’t help but imagine him trying some sort of silly, formal dance she’d heard about.
“Give me an example.”
He stared at their connected hands, his ears and cheeks slowly growing redder. Y/N didn’t pull away, even if her own body was threatening to explode with nerves and heat.
She expected him to kiss her hand, like she’d hear the other girls gossip about. She felt his warm lips against her fingers, through her thin gloves, and it made her jolt. Some of his brown hair brushed against her arm. I might well and truly die now.
Ned coughed and hastily turned away from her, utterly embarrassed at his own behavior. “Th-that’s what Lord Arryn… what Lord Arryn said to do when … when meeting a lady…”
“Are you kissing other ladies?” She couldn’t help it. She giggled, the warmth in her chest bubbling up to her lips. Her hand felt like it was on fire. “Should I be jealous, Ned?”
Ned covered his face with his hands, and she laughed. She covered her own face to settle her silly, foolish giddiness. “Of course not,” He grumbled. “You’re the only one I ever spoke to, besides.”
“Oh, you must have talked to some in the Eyrie.”
“Some.” Ned’s grey eyes glanced to her. She met his gaze, and they held it as he continued, “Though I kept wishing you were there.”
Y/N had to look away again. She couldn’t giggle, her throat was stuck, her chest hurt and she hated how tongue-tied she was. She never imagined it would be this hard — whatever this was —
“What in the seven hells are you both doing?”
Looking through her fingers, Y/N watched Brandon saunter up to them. The older Stark tilted his head to his brother.
Ned could only manage to suspiciously avoid looking at him. Brandon glanced between them, and Y/N felt like she had done something wrong. She quickly said, “We were visiting the crypt to pay our respects.”
Brandon’s face fell, and he said little else. Y/N understood it would be time for breakfast soon, and the morning sun had long broken over the tall stone walls. The three of them walked back to the keep together, Brandon pointedly putting himself between Y/N and Ned.

When i take the love language test I always get quality time even though I feel like I’m really big on touch. It’s hard for me to put my emotions into words a lot so showing love that way is my way to go. And i normally need it back in order to not feel like I’m being clingy.
I’m a huge overthinker and procrastinator. Which is a horrible combination considering I overthink about procrastinating. It’s a vicious cycle.
I speak fluent sarcasm constantly and am really stubborn. I’m pretty sure people roll their eyes at me more than the an average person receives.
I hate being woken up early. If it’s before 9:30 am then it’s still night time.
my hobbies are creative writing, reading(romance and fantasy mainly), scrapbooking, and cooking. I love to bake but I can’t bake for crap unless the box is labeled betty crocker mix.
My sense of fashion is super basic. Honestly if i’m not actively going out then I’m most likely in sweats and a oversized tshirt. But it I do go out then leggings/ripped jeans and a basic graphic tshirt it is. I have 3 pairs of converse and I wear them religiously.
I hate talking on the phone to new people. It makes me even more anxious then talking to them in person. And i’m normally decently quiet until you know me really well and then I don’t shut up (kinda like how i’m rambling now lol). I need people whether romantically or platonically to be able to take a joke and play argue with me. It’s a must.
My favorite season is winter and my favorite holiday is Christmas. My birthday is also on Valentine’s day which can be a bummer.
Lastly, Im a ravenclaw and everytime I take the personality type quizzes I always get different letters at the end so I couldn’t tell you what I am.
Thank you💕

Black Clover matchup for @nakunakunomi
Matchup for me :D No gender preferences I am a biromantic ace.
Your age: 24
Your general appearance - most striking features, your fashion style, etc.
Answer: Chubby mermaid lol. Long curly hair almost all the way down my back. Red at the moment, but I’ve had all colors of the rainbow. Ears pierced multiple times and a septum ring whenever I leave the house. My general style is comfy alternative, loads of black, boots and ripped jeans but baggy shirts and sweaters. I don’t like drawing much attention to my chest because my boobs are a very prominent feature. Hourglass figure with extra minutes: so there’s boobs and ass but also a tummy and such. I have dimples when I laugh and a whole bunch of moles over my body. I like a killer liner and mascara but don’t necessary wear makeup every day. I like 4 tattoos and waiting for that fifth one.
Your MBTI, western zodiac chart, etc.
Answer: INFP (mediator), Scorpio sun, Libra moon, Pisces ascending. Year of the rat. I’d say my MBTI type is pretty accurate and while I don’t have many of the bitchy traits often assigned to Scorpios, I do have some of the passion towards things I care about and a generally jealous and stubborn personality.
Your personality, how you perceive yourself and how people around you perceive you.*
Your hobbies, interests, life goals etc.*
Answer: Stubbornness and some jealousy (that is always internalized) are my worst traits. I lack self-esteem and confidence and get anxious in new situations. Once I am around people I trust I blossom open and become more giggly (lame jokes and such) my humor is about 50% puns and 50% sarcasm. I am quick-witted with ‘mean’ remarks but I will never intend to offend or cause harm to anyone. Tough exterior comes with a soft interior. I tend to overthink and worry a lot and will usually put a friend’s needs above mine. I often have people coming to me for advice or to help them calm down. I will be honest in the softest way possible, even if the things I need to say aren’t necessarily nice. I want my friends to flourish. I get easily distracted by cute things and can really enjoy beautiful sights, nice food, good company… i am heavily introverted but I do need the handful of people I care about to flourish myself.
I accumulate facts and know loads of small things about a lot of things. I like adding in fun facts every now and then but sometimes I come across as a know-it-all and then I will get really self-conscious about it. I either talk up a storm nonstop or turn into myself and get really really quiet.
Your favorites, likes, dislikes, pet peeves, fears.*
Answer: anything creative: reading and writing, drawing (although I’m terrible at it), pixel art. Singing, making music, playing instruments, DIYing things. I am quite good with makeup and wigs, and I cosplay but the sewing I still struggle with. I love acting and gaming as well although I don’t spend that much time on them.
I am super heavily interested in true crime, cases, and the psychology of murderers and such. I tend to get overexcited talking about such cases, never celebrating violence, but just being very fascinated by what a human brain can do. I also just really love riddles, mysteries, and solving them.
I’d love to become a teacher or a professional dog trainer. I love animals more than I love people and if I could work with dogs every day of my life that’d be amazing. An unrealistic goal would be to sing for a living, or do musicals. But I don’t think that’s ever gonna happen.
Any additional info you would like to share, fun facts, etc.
Answer: food! Mainly Asian dishes (from all of Asia) and pastas. I love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen and trying out new things to taste. I’m vegetarian but not vegan and I will try everything that’s not meat or fish at least once! I love all kinds of animals, not only your average pets. I will also go pet the cows, and in the zoo you’ll have to drag me away by my ankles from the reptilians and the aquarium. I am fascinated by them and I love them. I love plants and flowers, and if you’d let me be, Id have a small jungle in my house with all kinds of plants and animals. I just love taking care of them, talking to them…
I dislike arrogant people, people who are rude against serving staff. I dislike impoliteness and laziness in the sense that other people are suffering from your lack of work. If I am in a group project I will never procrastinate because it can drag the whole group down, it’s okay to be lazy if it only impacts yourself.
I am afraid of loneliness and the fact that everyone I know just pretends to like me while talking behind my back and secretly hating me. I am not easily startled by monsters, animals, and such, but I do get a little paranoid if I have to walk in the street in the middle of the night. (a side effect from the true-crime consumption)
Answer: I think I added most things in the other walls of text (sorry they are so long). But when it comes to relationship and goals around that there are these things that I think are most important:
Love language is mostly quality time and words of affirmation, and that’s what I like too, as well as soft PDA and affections: cuddles, kisses, hand holding… I like spending time together, and even more so I like actually doing things together: sharing hobbies, going out, dates, dinners, walks, adventures, travels… all the things! :hellmo:
Patience, because I have some anxiety issues as well as fear of commitment. I will definitely need some reassurance. Also consent is the sexiest thing in the world, and that’s coming from an ace person.
Honesty, liars are out. I have a lot of trouble trusting again once there has been a breach of trust. White lies for surprises and such is one thing, but any intentional lying in order to avoid confrontation is an absolute dealbreaker.
I match you with...
Dorothy Unsworth!
Despite her being asleep a lot of the time, Dorothy notices more than she lets on. She can see straight through the front someone is putting up and see what they are really feeling. This really helps in letting her support you, who is always supporting others. She’ll remind you that sometimes you need to take a break or that you need to focus on yourself instead of others. With her infectious smile and her own absurd sense of humour, she’ll do her best to cheer you up, or at least to distract you from whatever is bothering you.
Dorothy is very patient and has no rush with any relationship. Everything has its own time and waiting for that time to come it part of the fun, right? She’s also very understanding of your anxiety and is able to adjust her energy to the situation, keeping it low when you need comfort and reassurance, and going straight back to high when you’re feeling better and just want to have some fun.
Dorothy may seem very cute and girly, but she is interested in true crime as much as you are. The gruesome details of a case are not wasted on her and she will gladly talk with you about these cases. In her time as a magic knight she has seen her own fair share of true crime as well and she will gladly share anything that’s not confidential or dangerous.
Her love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation. Not a day will go by where Dorothy won’t hug you from behind, kiss you between your shoulder blades and tell you she loves you. She loves loving you and making you feel loved. When she’s in love, keeping her lover safe, emotionally and physically, is her number one priority. She won’t give you even a second to doubt her love for you whenever you’re together. She’s very conscious of your boundaries and makes sure to not cross them.
Not a single lie will leave her mouth, unless as a joke, which will be very clear when she tells it. She is a knight, an enforcer of justice and peace, and lies are not in her book. Teasing, however, very much is, though she prefers to tease you with truths instead of with jokes. If there’s truth to the teasing, it’s just that much more effective.
You want this small strong captain to be putty in your hands? Cook for her, or cook with her. Dorothy greatly enjoys the good things in life and food is definitely on her list of good things. Her preference is mostly sweets, but she knows she needs to eat healthy food as well and she’s not picky when it comes to her dinner. The only need she has is that it tastes good, and that’s something you with your amazing culinary skills can definitely provide!

The Writing Process
Happy Birthday to @noradarhkpalmer!!! Have a wonderful day!
AO3
An intoxicating scent of coffee beans and chocolate greeted Nora when she first entered the coffeeshop. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t as crowded as she had been expecting it to be for the evening. Most of the company seemed to be college students from the nearby campus, but she did catch sight of some who were a bit older. Nora watched them as she waited her turn to order, taking note of what they were studying or if they were just procrastinating. She concluded that it was an even mix by the time she got to front.
“Hi, what can I get you?”
Nora turned towards the man smiling at her from behind the counter. On his apron, there was a sun on his badge drawn next to the name Ray.
“Um,” her eyes were drawn upward towards the menu of the various drinks that were offered. There was a lot more to choose from than she had anticipated. “I’ll take a tall latte please.”
“Any shots?” Ray asked, pulling out a cup.
Nora shook her head.
“And you want this hot, right?” he asked as he looked down on the paper cup in his hand. “I always forget to ask if people want it hot or cold. And I need your name too.”
“Hot is fine,” Nora told him, digging for her wallet. “And it’s Nora. N-O-R-A.”
“Got it,” Ray yanked out a black marker and tried to write it, then frowned. “Ah, it died. Give me a second.”
Nora dug in her bag again and pulled out a pen. “Here, you can use mine.”
“It’s fine.”
“Just take it, I have plenty.”
Ray took the pen from her, scribbling her order and name on the side of the cup. Nora paid and Ray handed her the receipt and pen back. She only took the paper though. “Keep the pen. I have plenty.”
“Are you sure?” Ray asked, the pen hanging in his hand between them.
“Positive,” Nora assured him.
Ray smiled again. “Thanks. I’ll get your latte going, Nora.”
There was someone waiting behind her, so Nora headed off to wait for her coffee. Once she got the drink from Ray, she headed towards a table and took a seat. She pulled her notebook out of her bag, realized it was the wrong one, then grabbed the correct one. Grabbing a different pen, she began working on her story idea.
For the past few weeks, she had been telling herself to do this. There had been other ideas before, but now this one hadn’t left her head for weeks. When she’d told Mona and Gary about it, they’d both encouraged her to go for it. So she had spent part of the last weekend outlining a schedule for herself that would hopefully work out and leave her with a book at the end of it. She just needed to be here at least three times a week for an hour after finishing her prep work for her class.
An hour passed by quicker than she had expected. By the end of it, she had the general premise, three characters fleshed out in appearance, backstory, and plot arc, and the first part of the book planned. When the timer on her phone went off, Nora packed her things up. She got rid of the empty latte cup and headed for the door. Ray gave her a wave as she left. Nora raised her hand in farewell before pushing the door open and walking to her parked car.
Yeah, she was going to do this.
~~~
“How’s it going?”
A purple line shot across the rest of her page as the voice startled her. Nora looked up to see Ray wiping down the table across from her. She exhaled and set the pen down. There went the rest of the line to write down more on Josselyn’s actions in that chapter. This was why Mona told her to use pencil. Maybe she needed to buy more white-out strips.
“Sorry,” Ray apologized. “I didn’t mean to startle you. I’ve just been curious.”
“Curious?” Nora repeated, reaching for her cup only to remember it was practically empty.
Ray set the rag down. “You’ve been coming here for two weeks and I always see you writing in this corner table.”
She raised an eyebrow. “You’ve been watching me?”
“Yes, but I’m not trying to be creepy,” he promised. “It’s pretty late when you come in so there’s not a lot of other customers. I people-watch instead. You’re always so absorbed and working, and I keep wondering what’s going on. But I’m sorry if I’m creeping you out.”
“I’m used to being watched by other people,” Nora chuckled, setting the pen down. “Although they tend to be a lot smaller. You’re fine.”
“Oh,” Ray looked more relieved. “So…is it okay if I ask what you are doing?”
Nora exhaled slowly. “I’m trying to write a book.”
“Wow, you’re a writer?”
“Trying to be,” she admitted. “I got hit with an idea a while ago and I want to make it happen. So I’ve been coming here to work. It’s actually a pretty relaxing workspace.”
“Thanks,” Ray smiled. “I had a lot of good input about the design.”
Nora looked around at the space of tables and chairs with couches and coffee tables lining the walls filled with art. “You designed this?”
“Yeah, I kinda had to,” Ray scratched the back of his head. “I own part of it.”
“I thought you were just a barista,” Nora blurted out.
“I…did start out as one, but my friend and I went in together to start own our business here after the original business decided to move. We both still work here with everyone else. Rip’s got a good touch on baked goods, especially the gluten-free stuff.”
Nora smiled. “I almost got one of those muffins today. They looked good.”
“You should try one of his chicken and mushroom pasties,” Ray told her. “They’re the best! All his stuff is though. It depends on what you like.”
“I will keep that in mind,” Nora nodded, thinking about her cold leftovers waiting for when she got home.
The door at the entrance swung open for a group of college students. Ray looked disappointed as he said goodbye and headed over to take their order. Nora watched him go and went back to her story only for her timer to go off a minute later. With a whine, she pulled herself out of her seat, packed her bag, and headed for the door. Ray waved at her, and Nora raised her hand back. Their usual goodbye, but now there was something new.
“See you later, Nora!” Ray called.
“You too!” she replied as the door swung shut.
~~~
“I have good news!” Nora announced as she entered the library a few weeks later before school started.
“Your class got one hundred percent on their book quiz?” Mona asked.
“Yes, that happened,” Nora remembered, taking a seat at the table. “But I have other good news. I finished my outline.”
Mona’s face lit up and she clapped excitedly. “Yes! Nora, I’m so proud of you!”
“I am too. Now I just have to take that and write this thing and edit it, but I will finally have a book.”
“And you’ll let me read it?” Mona leaned forward. “Please, Nora? Please? Please, please, please?”
Nora had to grin at her eagerness. “Of course. You, Gary, and Ray all get to read it.”
“Who’s Ray?”
“He owns the coffeeshop that I’ve been doing all this planning at. There’s not a lot of traffic when I go, so we usually end up talking for a little while. That’s why it took a little longer to do the planning than I thought. But I still got it done.”
A slow smile spread across her friend’s face. “Aww, that’s kinda cute.”
“I know that face,” Nora stood up. “And slow down. We’re just friends.”
“So were Chandler and Monica.”
“School starts soon, I still have to put up announcements for my class,” Nora stood back up. “I’ll see you later, Mona. And don’t start overthinking this.”
“Okay, I won’t.”
~~~
“Tall latte, no shot?”
“Please and thank you.”
Ray grinned as he started working on her drink. “How was your day today?”
“My class seemed to get their math lesson today, but I’m going to have to see the homework tomorrow,” Nora told him. “Thanks for that idea about those magnets though. They really liked it.”
“No problem. What are you planning for tonight with the book?”
“Well, I’ve gotten the prologue completed, so it’s onto the first chapter.”
“And you’ll still let me read it?” Ray asked, a hopeful glint in his eyes.
“Absolutely,” she nodded. “How’d your day go?”
Ray passed her the latte. “You know how I told you about Rip and Gideon?”
“Oh, did something happen?”
“They got engaged.”
A couple entered, meaning their chat time was up for now. Ray looked a little disappointed. “I’ll come by in a few and tell you more.”
“Please,” Nora pleaded as she headed towards her table.
She took a seat at her usual place and pulled out her laptop and notebook. While she waited it for to power up, her eyes drifted over to where Ray was making the drinks for the pair who had come in after her. Mona’s words came back to her yet again. Ever since she’d said that a few weeks ago, Nora hadn’t been able to get it out of her head.
She did like Ray. That was easy enough for her to admit. If she didn’t have her hour time limit each time she visited, then she probably would have kept talking to him. Ray seemed to feel the same about her, at least that’s what she thought. She hoped she was getting the right message.
Nora shook her head. Nope, she did not come here to fall in love. The reason she had started coming was a peaceful place to write a book. She made a friend along the way. A friend who she talked with every time she came here and texted at least once a day since they’d exchanged numbers two weeks ago.
Groaning, Nora reminded herself to focus on her chapter. As she typed, her mind started to drift to other ideas that she’d had. There was one romance novel idea she’d gotten after reading a Rebecca Silver book with Mona. It had been a great idea, but she’d lost momentum and abandoned it. Although there were some great lines Nora had written and stuck on a Post-It note somewhere.
Just then, Ray came over and took the empty seat across from her. “Hey, sorry about that. You still want to hear about the engagement?”
Nora lowered her screen so she could see him better. “Lay it on me.”
~~~
“You got in my head!”
Mona whirled away from Gary as Nora stormed into the library. “What?”
“You got in my head about Ray!” she pointed a finger at her. “And now I can’t stop thinking about him!”
“Who’s Ray?” Gary asked while Mona stepped back.
“He’s a guy Nora met at the coffeeshop where she’s writing her book,” Mona explained. “Nora talks with him a lot. He also gets to read the book.”
“Neat!”
“No, not neat!” Nora huffed, taking a seat in Mona’s chair. “Mona was saying things and I might have feelings now and I don’t know what to do! Gary, help me.”
Gary frowned. “About what?”
“You’re the guidance counselor. Guide me.”
“I work with students! Ask Mona, she’s read the most romance novels.”
Nora groaned. “That reading of romance novels got me into this in the first place. Help me!”
Gary nodded in agreement, earning a glare from Mona. But then she looked at Nora and sighed.
“Nora, I probably shouldn’t have made that Mondler comment or my I-smell-romance face,” the librarian sighed. “But you definitely like him.”
“I know,” Nora pouted. “I don’t know if he likes me and I hate wondering it.”
“You told us he gave you his number,” Gary piped up. “Unless someone really wants to get to know you, then that doesn’t happen.”
“And he texts you after school or during your lunch breaks,” Mona reminded her. “Never when you’re working. You mentioned that once.”
“And didn’t he once save your favorite cookie for you last week?” Gary added.
“Okay, so maybe he does like me,” Nora agreed. “But why hasn’t he made the move?”
“He could be going through the same thing you are. Not sure if you like him or not? He does seem like the sensitive kind. That’s what he looks like to me at least.”
Nora narrowed her eyes. “Mona, what did you do?”
“I…might have gone to your coffeeshop last Sunday,” explained the other woman. “But it was only to see what he looked like. I wanted to make sure my best friend wasn’t going for some weirdo.”
“Okay…”
“It doesn’t matter,” Mona shook her head. “Nora, don’t wait for him to make the first move. You do it. Who wouldn’t want to go out with you?”
Nora smiled. “Okay. I’ll ask him when I finish the book.”
“And how close are you to that?” Gary asked. “Because you did set a goal.”
“Gary, it’s love!” Mona scolded. “She should do it the next time she goes!”
“I only have two more chapters, and then the epilogue,” Nora told them. “Then I’ll tell him. It’ll be just two weeks. A week and a half at best.”
Mona looked at her for a long minute, then nodded. “Good. But don’t chicken out.”
“I won’t, I swear.”
~~~
Two weeks passed, and Nora had finished the book. She still needed to edit it, but it was all there. Every day she had come in here over the past few months had been mostly productive. She managed to create something beautiful, at least in her eyes. Now, it was time to see if asking Ray on a date would be successful. Even if it wasn’t, she still had her book that she could be proud of.
However, Nora was shocked when she entered to see Ray was not behind the counter. Her heart sank a little.
“Hey,” she asked the barista behind the counter. “Do you happen to know if Ray is around?”
“Nora?”
She turned around to see Ray, sans apron, coming out of the kitchen.
“Ray?” Nora stepped towards him. “Hey, I thought you were working tonight.”
“I was actually going to take tonight off. Plus, Behrad is starting out and he was happy to take a low-stress shift.”
“Oh,” Nora nodded. “So, I know we’ve been friends for a while since I’ve been coming here. And even though my first draft of the book is done, I still have more to work on. But I decided to take tonight off since it’s Friday.”
“You deserve the break. You’ve been putting in so much hard work to it.”
“Thanks. Although I still wanted to come here tonight to ask you if you wanted…if you would like to go out on a date with me sometime?”
Ray chuckled. “You’re asking me on a date?”
“That was the intention.”
“That’s funny,” Ray chuckled again, shaking his head. “I actually wanted to ask you out tonight once you finished the draft.”
Now Nora had to giggle. “So we were both waiting to ask each other out?”
“It appears so. Have you had dinner yet?”
“Nope. But I do know a place with gluten-free options.”
“I already like the sound of that.”
Nora held out her hand. “It’s just down the street. Shall we?”
Ray took it with a smile. “To our date, my lady.”
~~~
Four months later
“What about this one?”
Nora looked up at the book in Ray’s hand. “Already have it in my classroom. Sorry.”
“It’s fine,” Ray told her as he paged through it. “The illustrations are great.”
“And it’s a great story. My kids love it.”
“They’re lucky to have a good teacher.”
Nora grinned as she leaned into her boyfriend. “Hey, I’ve got some good news for you.”
“Yeah? What about?”
She reached into her purse and pulled out an envelope. “Remember when I sent my book to those publishers?”
“You were so nervous about it,” Ray reminisced. “You were panicking to me afterwards.”
“Mona and Gary already know about it, which is why we are here at the bookstore,” Nora explained as she passed him over the envelope. “Now it’s your turn.”
Mona was shooting her a thumbs up from the aisle of romance novels. Gary wasn’t paying attention as he added another book to his stack. He started heading for the corner as a man on the other side was walking the same way. Nora bit her finger as they collided, and books tumbled to the ground. She didn’t get to watch the fallout though before Ray swept her up in a hug.
“They want to publish your book?”
“They do!” Nora squealed, hugging him back. “I have to set up an interview to talk more but it’s a huge step!”
“I’m so proud of you,” Ray sighed happily. “My girlfriend is an author!”
Nora laughed. “An almost published author is what you mean.”
“Still an author.”
“Well, if I hadn’t come to your coffeeshop, I wouldn’t have written the thing,” Nora shrugged, glancing over at where Mona was actively watching Gary and the man he’d run into talk about a book he was holding. “I wouldn’t have done it without you or them.”
“It was all you, Nora.”
“But I had support,” She leaned up and kissed her boyfriend. “I love you, Ray.”
“I love you too. My girlfriend, the teacher and author.”
Nora snickered and leaned into him. “Is that how you’re going to introduce me from now on?”
“Maybe.”

Rampant Thoughts 13.
There is something I have on my mind but no matter how I end up phrasing it, it ends up sounding like a pretentious desire that confuses even me as to why it is that I have it. Though it lurks in the back of my mind on a daily basis, recently I have noticed a decline in intensity of how much it preoccupies me from day to day. Growing up in a space of time in which technology soars and evolves with each day, it is no surprise that it has become part of human life to the point it's essential to almost every aspect of growth. While in some cases it aids and complements human functionality there are though situations where it has become a slight detriment to the evolution of certain human behaviors. Even though there are scientific articles and pragmatic information backing all my statements I am not here to list reasons how technology is a nuisance to human evolution since everything in existence has ups and downs to its presence on Earth. My goal with this text is to try and write on white my thoughts of how the era of information sharing and online media as well as marketing affects me and my state of mind.
In the past, the saying ignorance was a bliss spoke true to its meaning since I believe that living a dull and relatively private life, unaware of what someone from the other side of the world did was a blessing to ones mind and soul as this meant you would focus on your life and your business trying to build a life for yourself with whatever means you had at your disposal without being preoccupied with redundant thoughts that yielded nothing but inner unrest and turmoil. Simpler is better they say but the simple of back then doesn't apply to the simple of now as technology has technically simplified life as a whole. I just feel like having access to so many lives at once overloads one with thoughts of inadequacy coupled with dreams that instead of causing happiness, end up collapsing as one realizes not everyone can have a big dream and also make it into reality just like that one person they saw somewhere through the window. Being a witness to so many people living a life that is considered better by you and so many others just eats away at your own self as you end up believing that you need to be someone else to be able to live a life that full and exciting instead of the one you have been building up until now and this is where overthinking, big-dreaming and self-pressuring kick in to stress me out and lead me on a path of diffidence and indecisiveness, constantly seeking that perfect idea to pull me out of obscurity and open the window towards a life similar to what I saw that someone live. This is what I consider to be a detrimental side to what technology has brought with it in its evolution to the present day. On a side note, everything I said can also be an excuse for me to not achieve everything that I say I strive for but in the end, what stops me the most is the confusion of what do I really want from life: something I saw online that was obtained by someone completely different than me or something that I can come with myself and remain in obscurity, haunted by the idea of a better life, free of any anchors that would weigh me down, stopping me from reaching that so called ideal life. All I know is that I have no answers yet and my journey is still plagued by confusion and procrastination due to not possessing the intrepidity to tackle whatever it takes to achieve what I seemingly crave in order to escape a life of dullness and societal implemented routine.

Hey! I really loved your quiz - I thought it was super insightful and struck a good balance between Pullman/analytic forms. I got penguin myself (which I was very happy with) but was just wondering what animals you think might suit an ISFP? I've seen conflicting opinions on whether penguins would be introverted/extroverted and am just curious!
oh great question! in my opinion, penguin species are be introverted or extroverted, though some species are going to more obviously be one type over the other. the most introverted penguin species would be the yellow-eyed penguin who doesn’t even engage in colonial nesting; this species i would imagine to be a private person who needs plenty of time alone, though they still appreciate a supportive group of loved ones to socialize with. however the rest of the penguin species (i believe) are colonial, so in order to best fit a penguin, i’d imagine you’d have to be someone who’s very socially tolerant. i’d also suggest a species that doesn’t hunt together if you’re someone who prefers to work on projects independently. for an ISFP, in addition to the yellow-eyed, i’d recommend looking at the humboldt penguin and little blue penguin.
besides the penguin? if you’re someone who’s socially tolerant enough to feel like the penguin fits you, i’d also recommend looking at less gregarious breeds of rodents. in particular the hamster, flying squirrel, and patagonian mara came to mind. i’d be leaning towards a more tolerant species like the dwarf hamster for you, who is still an introverted and independent person, but is someone who needs the support of loved ones and can be very loyal to and caring towards a select few. otherwise they’re very shy, conflict-averse, and unobtrusive people who get impassioned by their curiosity — like all rodents they love to stay busy, and they’re very determined and methodical in their work. the flying squirrel i’d be leaning towards the old world flying squirrels for you, so maybe japanese dwarf flying squirrel. this is going to be an introvert but socially tolerant, affectionate to a certain few, and their companions often help stabilize their anxiety. very doubting, perfectionistic, sensitive, and unadaptable people, but with a caring heart. not terribly focused and has a tendency to procrastinate and overthink things, making it hard for them to start. the other species, the siberian flying squirrel, is a lot more solitary and independent. and finally the patagonian mara is similarly socially tolerant, cliquish and close-bonding with their loved ones but suspicious of strangers and averse to making new friends. gets anxious without social support and can tend towards being possessive and protective. tend to flip between “rest mode” and “work mode” and have difficult making that switch; they can be both low energy procrastinators, and focused busy body perfectionists.
i was looking around at prosimians and i think the dwarf lemur, gray slender loris, or potto might work for an ISFP. the dwarf lemur is independent by nature, is socially tolerant and has a close group of friends, but the sort of person who needs to maintain a private inner life. very caring people and even-tempered, tend to be anxious and sensitive and while they enjoy doing well, they get overwhelmed and burnt out quickly. very resourceful and observant people. the gray slender loris is very similar to the dwarf lemur in terms of needing close friends and liking that support, but still maintaining independence. also empathetic and caring, but tend to be more communicative and open about it, and while they’re peaceful people, are willing to stand up for themselves if needed. adaptable and happy working alone or with cooperation. probably considers themselves an ambivert. and lastly the potto is the most introverted and independent of all of these species, though still definitely not averse to socialization and can be receptive — their natural state is just doing things on their own. this does mean that they have pretty firm boundaries and don’t like being emotionally vulnerable with others, and really the only time they get fussed is when someone tries crossing that line. otherwise very chill, conflict-avoidant, and low energy. slow and steady wins the race with them, they don’t like multitasking and they don’t like being hurried.
and lastly some more introverted deer or antelope species i think would work! maybe the bongo, dik-dik, or klipspringer. these species are all going to be socially tolerant and have a close group, but still need to prioritize alone time to avoid stress. the bongo is a very sensitive, warm, and affectionate type of person; absolutely respectful and communicative and just wants to keep harmony with others. tends to be a wallflower and may be shy and modest about sharing personal interests. very self-critical and perfectionists even about their passions, like to work alone and don’t like sharing until things are exactly how they want it. very habitual people who want to avoid stress, and can be flighty and defensively manipulative to that end. the dik-dik tends to be more independent than the bongo, a very sensitive and polite person but still one who will stand up for themselves if they’re hurt or if personal boundaries have been crossed. not as secretive as the bongo about their feelings, but they’re still averse to causing conflict. they like to stay busy and are dedicated to their projects, they’re quite aware, anxious, and paranoid, and prefer to plan ahead at all costs so they can stay to their habits and avoid change. and the klipspringer is perhaps more similar to the bongo in terms of socialization, very attached to their small group. they’re very empathetic, loyal, and affectionate people, but unlike the other two species, they’re much more assertive and willing to stand up for themselves. they're protective and expressive people who have their pride. of course they're still tactful and tend to be cautious, but there's a stubbornness that is more easily invoked than with the dik-dik. they’re not at all adaptable people and like to stick to their routines.
hope this helps! :)

Bleach matchup - nakunakunomi
Giveaway prize for @nakunakunomi
Your hobbies, interests, life goals etc.*
Your favorites, likes, dislikes, pet peeves, fears.*
I just love taking care of them, talking to them… I dislike arrogant people, people who are rude against serving staff.
Any additional info you would like to share, fun facts, etc.
Answer: I think I added most things in the other walls of text (sorry they are so long). But when it comes to relationship and goals around that there are these things that I think are most important:
Patience, because I have some anxiety issues as well as fear of commitment. I will definitely need some reassurance. Also consent is the sexiest thing in the world, and that’s coming from an ace person. Honesty, liars are out. I have a lot of trouble trusting again once there has been a breach of trust. White lies for surprises and such is one thing, but any intentional lying in order to avoid confrontation is an absolute dealbreaker.
:hellmo:
I match you with...
Nelliel Tu Odelschwank
Nelliel is the perfect match for you! She’s extroverted so she’ll be the first one to reach out to you. Her intentions are always very clear, though she’s very careful to not overstep any boundaries. No matter how much time you need because of your anxiety and commitment issues, Nelliel has set her mind on you and she will be as patient as you need her to be.
Nelliel is the type of woman to support you through anything, good or bad. You want to adopt a pet? She’ll go with you and help you pick if needed. You want plants on every free surface in your house? Time to go to the shop. You’re about to meet some new people and you’re anxious? She’s there right next to you.
Nelliels love languages are physical touch and quality time. As long as she an be close enough to sneak a hug or a kiss in every now and then, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing. Seeing you being passionate about your hobbies makes her smile every time and she will gladly try your hobbies as well. She loves drawing with you, even if neither of you are very good at it. Sometimes, when making something, she’ll ask you to sing something for her. She might join in, but she prefers to hear you sing.
Nelliel too loves reading a lot, so being snuggled up together on the couch under the same blanket, both with your own book and your own cup of tea is a regular happening. And if you start cooking something for her? Oh god, this woman will be putty in your hand. She’s not a very picky eater and will eat literally anything you make her. Food is another thing she loves, and with you spoiling her with all these amazing dishes, you can expect lots of hugs and kisses in return.
Late night conversations between you and Nelliel will be the absolute best. With your general knowledge and Nelliels imagination, conversations can go to the weirdest but most amazing places. Nelliel loves your humour as well and will gladly join in with her own lame jokes and puns. It’ll be one pun after the other and before you know it, the two of you will be clutching your stomachs.
One of the many things Nelliel loves about you is your hair. The curls, the colours, the length… she thinks it’s absolutely gorgeous. Another thing she absolutely loves about you are your dimples. They are the cutest thing and she will surprise kiss then while you’re laughing.
Cheerfulness aside, Nelliel can be serious when needed. She’s a great listener and gives great advice as well. Despite what her cheerful attitude would let on, Nelliel is very perceptive and knows when something is bothering you. Much like you, Nelliel can’t stand liars either. She’s very clear in communication and refuses to have any serious secrets from you, even if they’re hard to talk about. During arguments, Nelliel will rarely raise her voice. Violence, physically verbally or emotionally, are a big no-no for her, so she’ll always remain mature during these moments.
