MCC 35 Red Reindeer Sweater Skins!

I'm back to posting less than 24 hrs before the event apparently.

If this is the first post you’re seeing of mine, hi! I have made a lot of CaptainSparklez’ team’s skins, ever since MCC14 (links: MCC15, MCC16, MCC17, MCC18, MCC19, MCC21, MCC22, MCC23, MCC24, MCC25, MCC28, MCC30, MCC31, MCC32, MCC33, MCC34, MCC Party). On occasion I’ve also made skins for other teams, such as the Red Rabbits of MCC Rising. Feel free to share this, just tag this post so that it links back to me. Thank you! Ok, more below the cut.

What's this, proper shading? Yeah, I don't know why I was crazy enough to do that this time either. I may have figured out a way to make shading more consistent in the future. Only time will tell on that front.

It's pretty standard for me to do sweaters for the December MCC and by golly am I sticking to it. This time the pattern is supposed to be like a minecraft dirt block. Also, everyone gets antlers! I thought they looked cute. Reindeer heads for the back, of course, which were pretty tricky. Although yetis were still the worst. I think it worked out okay.

Okay, onto individual breakdowns.

Starting with Michaelmcchill. It's been a little while but I have actually made a skin for Michaelmcchill before. Much of the same principles from last time remain although I'm much better now. The kneepads the skin has were translated into the pants pattern and since there wasn't much visually, I added a scarf.

Next, RedVelvetCake who I don't believe I've made skins for before. This was a a hard skin to work with for a few reasons. For one thing, I'm not even sure RedVelvetCake has a standard skin. For another, balancing the amount of things going on with the head was hard! Although I suppose it's partially my fault for adding more stuff in the form of antlers.

I have also made Sapnap a skin before and that was much more recently. This was a relatively easy skin to work with, with the hardest part being that it is the sole 3 pixel arm skin of the group. Sapnap gets gloves. I also carried over the pants stripes from Sapnap's regular skin.

And finally, CaptainSparklez. As per usual there is not much to say. I kind of nailed the sweater look for CaptainSparklez two years ago (two years ago!) and so not much has changed besides the coat length and design. The pants' stripe design are somewhat carried over from CaptainSparklez's regular skin except apparently there's no stripe on the inside normally. I didn't notice that until after I was done though, so it's not changing now.

okay so this is an odd ask but i was in martyn’s chat talking about appreciating false and also false & martyn as a fun dynamic and someone mentioned ‘oooh riacte on tumblr talks a lot about false and martyn interacting’ and i’ve been thinking about ren martyn false weirdass trio for the last couple of weeks so. hi :] this stream has driven me insane i would love your thoughts on them

Also HIIIIII WELCOME TO THE CLOWN CIRCUS there's a whole. gang. of us out here. Obsessing over a trio we invented and eventually became real. We have AUs and two fics on Ao3 and everything.

Okay Ren False Martyn. Time to pull up my False joins Dogwarts AU from June 2021. They were non-existent back then but y'know how Trafficblr makes connections from seemingly nothing? Yeah.

False is known as the Queen of Hearts. Ren is the Red King and Martyn is the Hand. Clearly there's some red theme royalty thing going on here. Also everyone's brainwaves were somehow aligned and we all thought False would ally with Ren if she was in Third Life- wow I wonder why we all thought that [False and Ren do-not-separatism]. So yay Dogwarts AU and we (Renchanting fans) got really annoying by putting trio stuff in her tag when she was otherwise canonically unrelated 😭 (probably the only time we spammed the tag). Ren and his two sword wielding sassy green blonds. They are so funny.

And then July 2021 hit and we got the three of them in a MCC team, Purple15, and the trio FINALLY existed yippee. But mere months later, MCC17 hit, which was the infamous fanon divorce arc bc that was the first time False and Ren didn't team together in MCC (when they were both in) and Ren was with Martyn so we had so many distracted boyfriend memes and I wrote an entire divorce crackfic which is my anonymous masterpiece.

Then we got Mint Maids with Joel in MCC19 (December) which was also really fun. And then fast forward to this wack ass stream which I can't even start to wrap my head around.

By the way there's also the Space Opera AU ❤️💚💙 which is about the three of them as main characters (yippeeee) and it has its own extensive lore but I don't have the energy to explain it rn. But it has shipping and the three of them go crazy and spopera False and Martyn tear each other to shreds it's brilliant.

Sorry that I'm not wording very well my brain juices have been DRAINED by the stream. Just finished watching Pete’s pov so have some random good moments from Orange17:

-first of all, Pete’s girlfriend Kara uploading a 10 gb file like 30 minutes before MCC, breaking Pete’s internet and freaking him out with Orange15 flashbacks- “I nearly just dropped out of the event chat” 

-Pete’s mom gifting 20 subs before MCC :D

-another before stream moment when Pete leaves to go to the bathroom and Grian turns to stare into chat’s soul (part one, part two, Pete’s reaction) 

-False and SB met/spoke to each other at Minevention?? 

-the group talking about Pete’s sleep schedule and how he wakes up at 4 am, and Grian laughing that “not even the sun can beat Pete”

-False seeing Ren’s skin and going “who invited Freddie Mercury?” in chat (bonus clip) 

-actually can we talk about how Grian spent the day of MCC17 feeding giraffes

-Pete, about Ace Race: “I was possessed" 

-the entire team absolutely refusing to let Grian talk himself down and self deprecate we love to see it 

-False and Grian’s bow synergy?? Both shooting at the same time in Sky Battle and Dodgebolt, and of course in Survival Games when False gave Grian a multishot book for his crossbow (which he then put quick charge I on as well) and Grian giving her punch II for her bow, with Grian’s multishot getting multiple hits in the final fight and False’s punch II saving Grian’s life against Fruit 

-Grian literally just following Fruit in the lava TGTTOS map and getting 11th place LMAO + bonus “11th, not too bad, yes Fruity, thank you!” and in chat “I love you fruity b” 

-False muting just as Pete asks “False, how you doing, you good?”, waiting in silence, before going “understandable” 

-All of the Vault Hunters jokes! No echo in this vault sadge 

-SB’s “I just killed a man I’m not proud about it” having the exact opposite energy from “just killed a woman, feeling good!” 

-Grian in Ace Race going "I was 5 seconds behind Philza and he’s really good so I’m happy”

-False just doing her thing the entire event, getting blue vault and doing parkour like nbd, her fighting in Sky Battle and Survival Games (top 5 in SG hello???), completing build after build in Build Mart without much struggle 

-do I even need to mention Sky Battle or Build Mart, or that Dodgebolt, or Pete’s Ace Race, or SoT winning the audience takeover by 0.1% like holy cow 

-Jimmy and Grian excitedly showing off their top 10 placements to each other!!

-Grian’s experience with invisible mazes coming in major clutch in Grid Runners

-Pete and False going to DB 3 out of 3 times they’ve teamed what a duo hello?? 

-Grian doing the piston parkour first try in SoT like hello?? And the word puzzles without chat?? My streamer using his braincells?? And he did really well as sandkeeper for his first time even though he gave me mini heart attacks every time he walked out of sight from the timer </3 Sand Daddy ftw 

-Pete’s whole “Grian if YouTube and Twitch don’t work out, Fiverr, you know, a one time gong session, that could go” 

-every “HBG on top” moment <3 

-Grian and Pete looking at each other in the windows at the start of Grid Runners, Grian going “hey handsome ;)” and Pete responding “oh?” with the full eyebrow wiggle as his chat is just full of :flushed: and peepoShy

-Grian going to the bathroom during the Decision Dome, going “oh please tell me it’s Build Mart- YES” just as he returns

-Pete’s chat that’s it that’s the post seriously they’re hilarious and straight up simping for Grian the entire event 

-in TGTTOS round 2 when SB was considering punching Gumi off if she made it to the end LMAO 

-In SoT, Pete running all the way back to get arrows from Grian to do the skeleton lava parkour, then going back, doing the parkour, and turning the corner to find arrows on the floor XD 

-Grian calling Fruit “his best friend in TGTTOS”

-every time Pete says something along the lines of “Grian I’m so happy for you” 

-not Orange specifically but Survival Games really was adoptee on adopter violence huh, Fruitninja annihilating Purple and then Orange killing H and Pink

-Pete’s reaction to Grian taking charge in Build Mart like seriously go watch his face 

-Pearl and Scar watching Grian’s stream, and Pearl and Martyn donating for the school project <3

-bonus after event stuff, Fruit in chat going “I think Grian is the best player by far”, a whole bunch of people (including Bad, who wasn’t even in the event) joining the call to congratulate them, Scott telling Grian he’s not teaming with Pete and Fruit anymore and their cries of horror, Martyn reacting to Grian’s shriek of victory and their Build Mart

I’m a bit confused about how it will be decided which artist is doing what.

Lets say I’m flexible and am willing to draw full team (option A or B) for MCC 1, 2 or 3. But I also don’t mind drawing a specific team member from MCC 4, 5 or 6 so layout option C.

But the way I would have to answer this in the form would be checking MCC 1 - 6 as my choices as well as all of the options A, B and C. Meaning in the end I can be allocated with option C for a team member I don’t want to draw (e.g. team member from MCC 6 that I’m not interested in) or full team for option A and MCC 5 where I’m only I retested in drawing one specific member.

Is there a way to specify exactly which slots I’m interested in potentially taking with specifying people for option C layout or would that be a complete lottery?

This is a completely fair concern to have!

Our plan for selecting artists will be attempting to prioritize people's first choices over anything else. However, there then becomes an issue of more people favoring some MCCs over others (MCC4 Purple Pandas, MCC17 Orange Ocelots, and MCC9 Blue Bats have been some standouts currently).

We value flexibility most in the application process, if you choose a team you are willing to fill for, it's going to be assumed by us that you are willing to draw all members of that team. If you aren't, then it's preferred that you only mark off the teams you'd be willing to draw all members. Especially if you want to avoid being assigned to draw someone you wouldn't want to.

If you do still want to make specific requests, then the best thing to do would be to DM our Twitter (@WinnersPOVZine) or Tumblr and give us details on who you would be willing to draw, so we can mark it down for the selection process. You are also free to leave a comment in the final section of the application with further explanation of your decision.

Hmm I didn’t notice that a lot of the dsmp crowd leaves during the break so other teams get attention… I greatly enjoyed MCC Reddit during the S1-S2 break… hmm…

Blue Bats, like Hermitcraft, has longevity. Blue Bats winning MCC9 might not have had as big as an immediate reaction as, let’s say, MCC11 Fuchsia winning, but people still (quoting Ren) “think fondly of the Blue Bats”. Hermit teams (and adjacent) might be overshadowed during the main runtime of MCC, but they’re the teams that stick around in people’s minds when the thrill dies down.

I would even argue Blue Bats is a tale that gets even better with time because recent MCCs have had predictable DB finalists / winners. Even if the two finalists are unexpected, the team with stronger “raw power” usually takes the win. The kind of dramatics that MCC9 unintentionally gave us is rare but genuine, and the closest thing that came to that in S2 was probably MCC17 DB. If Pink17 won that DB, it would be something like a Blue9 miracle, but that DB was amazing and theatric either way.

In the end I feel it’s simple. Humans like underdog stories. We like rooting for heroes who struggle and overcome challenges. We like satisfying ends to the hero’s journey. And Blue9 appeals to that part of us, which is it has staying power.

I am really glad that other teams are being appreciated during the break time, since during MCC runtimes it feels like we’re rushing from One Big Thing to the Next Big Thing. We want higher scores, stronger teams, more impressive clutches. We want to be dazzled. We want to feel the tension and anticipation as we beg for our team to win DB. We want new things, new players, new strategies.

We know how Blue9’s story ends, but we still rewind it over and over because it’s worth it.

I think the beauty of people missing MCC9 Blue Bats in January (after a stunning, heartfelt Christmas MCC) is that when it all slows down, we come back to the Blue Bats.

In a period of MCC drought, when there’s no minigames or team-ups to excite us, when the statistics and strategies have been tirelessly analysed, when the plays have been admired— we go back to the heart of MCC. The power of the underdogs. The sincere joy of victory achieved through a hard fight.

Last year around this time, Blue Bats received a sudden boom in popularity during the MCC break. They were a fan favourite along the ranks of SBI. Back then, I had assumed because people were asking for POVs to binge during the break, Blue Bats came up, and it snowballed. Also there were discussions of a reunion. It was like three/ four months after they won, the mainstream fandom was finally appreciating their POV.

Now around this time, a whole year has passed. We’re quieter now, but we’re not dead. People greatly enjoyed the escape room team up of H, False, Sam and Oli (technically 2/4 Blue Bats, although the whole team was pretty damn solid). People are still (jokingly or not) suggesting Blue Bats Twitch Rivals team. When False “accused” H of “betraying her” because he was on another Twitch Rivals team, a small amount of people burst into flurries of excitement because this was what happened pre-MCC 11 (when H said he was going to target Lime11 because he had been replaced). Ren asked for help regarding his All Achievements Run and Fruit sent him an overlay mod speedrunners used, and Ren talked about “his good friend Fruityloops from MCC” who “slid into his DMs”.

Finally, now we have the return of the king, Frostbyte Freeman himself, whose Blue9 documentary (in my opinion) helped the Bats achieve legendary status. Those vids were a great source of inspiration to me, lots of posts and fics I wrote (including my longfic Battle Scars) are based after sentiments shared in the vids.

It’s nice to come back when it all quiets down <3
