Monitoring
Tw for discussion of blood, gore, and bodily trauma
Basically a lil blurb I wrote for my Remnant Matsuda AU with the blueprints for enomatsumiki laid out. might add to it idk. DR0 spoilers ig.
The heel of her shoe digs into the dirt below as she fidgets, nerves getting to her as she looks around.
“Naegi said he saw her around here…” She mumbles to herself, eyes scanning the area for another girl.
Except, it isn’t just another girl. It’s her Beloved.
Junko had been missing for weeks after the events of the Tragedy, having disappeared after an interrogation by the school. She had been panicking since, desperately trying to overturn every stone to find her Beloved, with no success. Until she ran into an underclassmen, one from Junko’s class, that told her that he ran into her Beloved while visiting a lab in the Biology building and later saw her entering the Old School Building. She doesn’t know if she ever thanked the boy before running off to where Junko was last seen.
But standing outside does her no good, with no sightings and no clues to where she went, Mikan goes inside.
The inside is dark and musty, in the way that all old buildings are, but it puts her on edge. She clutches her bag closer, constantly swerving around at every creak and echo. It reminds her of all the horror movies she’s seen and how she’s the cautionary tale to present to the audience the stakes for the actual protagonists. But she does not turn back. It’s the first lead she’s gotten in weeks, she can’t turn back.
So she goes deeper and deeper, searching for any sign her Beloved left behind. Deeper and deeper, until the scent of blood hits her.
Panic fills her and she rushes towards the source, praying to anyone listening that it’s not from her Beloved. And when she enters the room, the smell engulfs her and her eyes land on two bodies.
One a small, boyish looking guy with his neck completely snapped.
The other a pile of meat and hair connected to a body.
Relief and horror mix in her gut as she stares out, completely transfixed by the bodies. Flashbacks flood her brain, and she finds herself thinking about the music room again. But a soft noise snaps her back to reality and her eyes shift to the source.
The disfigured body.
They are still alive.
Mikan rushes over and kneels down beside them, watching their chest softly move up and down. A sign of life. She hurriedly opens her bag, pulling out any medical supplies she could. But she wouldn’t be able to do much here, so instead she focuses on stabilizing them enough to move them to the hospital. Carefully making sure every bandage is secure, she gently lifts them up and carries them as fast and steady as possible.
-------------------
Mikan stares at her new patient as they lay comatose on the hospital bed. Emergency surgery had been necessary, but the patient had survived with both his eyes and most of his teeth still in tact. Nothing short of a medical miracle. However, his face was completely destroyed, leaving his face permanently scarred.
She was in charge of his care, making sure he recovered the best he possibly could. But this left her with little time to look for her Beloved.
Well, until she walked right through the door.
“Eek! Be-Beloved!” Mikan nearly falls on her face when she jumps up to greet her. But her Beloved stays focused on her patient, walking over and staring down at him.
Her face is unreadable, even to Mikan, as she reaches over and gently brushes the hair out of his bandaged face.
“He survived.”
“I-uh.. He- Yes, but he’s currently in a coma- there’s no way to tell if he’ll… if he’ll ever wake up, My Love.”
But Junko doesn’t respond back, just bends down and presses a kiss onto his forehead.
“Miki.”
“Yes, Beloved!”
“You’re the best nurse, so make sure he gets the best care.” She turns to leave the room, pausing for a moment. “And make sure no one else knows about this, ‘kay?”
“Of Course, My Love!”
And when she leaves, Mikan’s eyes zero in on her patient. She stares at his forehead, locked onto the faint lipstick stain left on his bandages.
“… Time for a bandage change.”
She leans forward and begins to remove them from his face, turning to discard them before turning back and jumping when she meets icy blue eyes. He stares deep into her soul, jaw slightly moving like he wants to speak, before he gives up. Mikan just stares back in shock, surprised he had awoken so quickly after such a traumatic event. But she shakes herself out of it, focusing on re-bandaging his face. She swallows before opening her mouth.
“M-Matsuda, right?”
