i do find the difference between jpop/kpop showcasing people who didn't necessarily have the most raw talent to begin with openly working hard to become better singers or dancers vs the western, and specifically US obsession with acting like the only real talents are the ones who were "born" with it from day dot interesting.
#this isnt a Ooh western music bad post either by the way#i do just find the way over time its gone from ever really showing any of the hard work a person put in to just pretending it was 100%#natural is very interesting#bc No... even the people with natural talent have to nurture it#whereas seeing someone who was kinda terrible to begin and actively showing them improve and being like This was bc they practiced is nice#although that def seems less of a thing as kpop gets bigger and bigger#ive seen some terrible vids of idols and its like no you put in the money to train them properly good lord#its the same way i always find the obsession with bands in the west forming “naturally” rather than being put together funny#like I get it bc some lil high school friends makin a group and becoming big is very fun and cool#but so often those groups implode and ended up hating each other#a group of musicians getting together bc they're musicians doesn't inherently make them less interesting as a group that formed on their ow
