#although it's not fully accurate bc obviously she's not gonna be exactly 22 or 21 everyday

okay maths question jumpscare
but does anyone know why the average between two numbers goes up when the numbers get bigger? I feel like it's obvious but basically me and my sister were up so late last night trying to work it out (context in the tags)
tl;dr: if the age difference between two people stays the same constantly, why does the average age between them go up as they get older?
#so it started bc as a joke we always say how old we were in a certain year as like ''we were an average of [whatever]''#based on how e.g. this year i started as 22 and she ends the year as 22 so although we're never the same age at the same time#we'll still experience the same age within the same year. so this year we'll be like ''we're an average of 22''#but then we were thinking what actually is the average of our ages?#and then we spent ages trying to work it out for no reason#so we've got 505 days between when we were born#so surely half of that must be the centrepoint of our age difference#but that would only truly apply to when she was born so we'd have to add whatever our current ages are to it#so like the amount of days between just our birthdays is 140 apparently#so say on her 22nd birthday i was 23 and 140 days#but yeah basically we ended up with the formula:#252.5 + (365 x her age)#and that'll give us the number of days between our current ages at any point#although it's not fully accurate bc obviously she's not gonna be exactly 22 or 21 everyday#so maybe the formula should be something like#252.5 + just the amount of days she's been alive#either way it gets the right answer#but then basically we were wondering why the average goes up when we get older and are we stupid or is there a recognised reason lol#like we get Why is goes up but we just wanna know if there's like a formula#so basically#why does the average between two people's ages go up as the people get older?#ramble
