ok so i've gone down the miraculous spiral at arguably one of the busiest times of my life and now i have approximately roughly two (2) au's and i'm going to get it out of my system.

au no#1: reversed gay love square {this one's kinda blurry, the other is still fresh}

marinette is a boy (marin) but everyone else is the same. adrien falls for marin and lordbug falls for chat noir {what's the worst that could happen right?}. marin at some point slips up and now adrien knows that marin's into chat noir and then they do marichat dating. marin also makes lots of chat cosplays. this is mostly just a braindump for gay marichat tbh. marin's miraculous is revoked at some point cuz fu starts to dislike him for whatever reason. little angst here and there but it ends happily {prolly}

au no#2: lordnoir gay love square BUT WAIT marinette also exists so it's actually a hexagon ig but it's more than that

marin is the older twin of marinette. where marinette is happy-go-clumsy and friendly, marin is uptight and sulky. sabine and tom have accidently turned him into a stoic always-compromises-for-his-sister {HE IS NOT A SISCON, i tell my imaginery audience calmly} brother who eats up his feelings . he is used to giving things up for marinette, he thinks that's how it's older brothers are meant to be. his toys? sure he can live without 'em (he missed them dearly). his supercool shoes? whatever they didn't fit him anyway (they did, perfectly). his room{the attic room} ? she could have it he didn't care (that was his favourite safe place). the hopes of being a jeweller? nah he'd rather appease their parents, be a baker, so that marinette can be fashion designer without their parents grudging on her (he doesn't like baking. at all). He obviously loves her but sometimes it's strongly tinted with resentment. marinette, being the way she is, is oblivous to it all {spoiler: but he does eventually bring it up. when he's akumatised.} {slightly important trivia: he routinely flicks her forehead as gesture of endearment, she always thinks he does it too hard}

so anyway. marinette is in the canon miss bustier's classroom with the same people and marin is in another class {honestly, marinette outshines marin so much that most people don't know him or can't imagine him as the marinette's brother. only chloe remembers his existence and is half-decent with him. (she pities him)} . instead of marinette getting the ladybug miraculous, it's marin.

lordbug and chat noir are really into each other but don't know how to voice their feelings {because of course}. meanwhile, marinette is lovestruck by adrien and marin keeps giving her confession advice {he's ruining his chances but that's part of the humour} marin is pretty happy to be a superhero. aside from almost dying every other day, he gets to be someone different who can be behave in any way he wants (read: more emotionally vulnerable and maybe proud of himself from time to time). also, this isn't something that he has to fear giving away to marinette (she doesn't even know! :D) so that's a plus.

anyway, the lordnoir ship sails and they are happily dating. {important trivia: lordnoir exchange gifts for their one-year-anniversary. chaton gives black diamond earrings and buggaboo gives a homemade red ring ''this way i'm always with you <3''} {another important trivia: alya's website is The Lordblog} the superhero team expands to marin, adrien, chloe, alya, nino, kagami and luka (marin doesn't include marinette to keep her safe and whatnot).

HOWEVER, ANNOYING FU strikes again and he revokes marin's miraculous. marin is already devasted that he's lost his the version of himself that he actually likes superhero alter ego, deemed useless of his responsibility AND that he couldn't say goodbye to chat (because fu forced him to give it up on the spot) when the whole city starts to rub salt into his wounds. everybody loves the new ladybug, even more than her predecesser. in fact, they even start to forget erase him! redone statues, renamed mueseum exhibits, rebranded merch, fuck, even the Lordblog changes to the Ladyblog to remain relevant.

oh, and why did fu take away the miraculous? due to a personal issue. only to give it to? YOU GUESSED IT. he has no clue what to think when he finds out that HIS sister gets to have HIS miraculous {he accidentally saw tikki}. his miraculous, given away to marinette. everything he touches has to be given away.

it also unnerved him how chat noir was so... cool with the change. he must've watched the Ladyblog footage a hundred times, trying to decipher the expressions of the face he's kissed a billion times. chat. was. unfazed. not even a moment's hesitation. he just went along with the new ladybug giving orders. everyone did.

he couldn't bear the sight of marinette. he acted coldly, picked on her and sneered at her every chance he could get and she couldn't figure out why. she accidentally cries about it in class and now the whole grade is against him. what does he care. he has nothing left to lose, afterall. he started to think like a damn yandere. ladybug miraculous. mine. chat noir. mine. mine. mine. he is eventually akumatised with the earrings that chat gave him {he started wearing them as a coping mechanism, adrien noticed but couldn't connect the dots}

Lord Beetle is born {nod to the asian lady beetle, which is the lookalike of the ladybug and can mildly hurt people} . thanks to his extensive knowledge of the ladybug miraculous, he guides hawkmoth into giving him nearly parallel powers to the actual thing. he also takes an added power where he can akumatise other people into being members of his supervillain team, competent individuals he can fully control. there's no way he's trusting anyone with their free will anymore.

ladybug knows it's her older brother who's akumatised and is understandably stressed, imagine how she feels when he addresses by her civilian address.

'xiǎo mèi,' he spat through his gritted teeth in mandarin, 'how lovely to see you.'

'wait, how do you-'

'i shouldn't have been so decent cuz now you're fucking spoiled,' he cursed in french as he sent his team at hers.

'what do you mean!?' she yelled as she tried to dodge their attacks

lord beetle scoffed, 'do you really think i want to be a baker? do you really think i like arithmetic? do you fucking think that it didn't hurt to give you my room? where's the rock you live under?' he said as he wove past the heroes with ease. they're good, he chose them afterall but he was always beter. he's not their former leader for no reason.

marinette's eyes started to water. she doesn't want to believe him. it can't be him! it's just the akuma talking, 'but- but you said-'

'i lied,' he towered over her, multiplying gravity with his words, 'i lied everyday. i lied for you, so what more do you want?' his words cracked as he threw his little sister to another roof, tears streaming down his face. he flew to her with his crystalline wings, making her vision blurry, 'you have no idea how much i've sacrificed for you. the things i put myself through so you can live the way you want but no, you still took more!' his speeding black yoyo was barely detered by her spinning red one.

'i didn't know!' was the last defense she had before his yoyo hit her right between her eyes. 'of course you didn't,' marin mumbled as he gingerly pried her his the earrings off her. the forced de-transformation forced marinette back to consciousness, even if barely. her brother's right ear was bleeding as he pushed the ladybug earrings into its shell. their eyes met as he was spinning his yoyo again and he said, almost concerned, 'you should go hide. after hawkmoth's done with his wish, i will create a world where we both get what we want and i won't need to share anything,' hundreds of black ladybugs spun around him, blurring him away, 'and i don't think that will be painless.'

and like that, marinette's brother is gone.
