Big Time Rush Season 1, Episode 11: “Big Time Jobs”

I remember this one being one of my favorite episodes. Excited to rewatch it!

Highlights: The boys set out to make some dough. Also: Mirror Realm Alter Egos, the worst sign-spinners on the planet, and sentient coffee makers.

We begin with the guys preparing for the "Palm Woods 500 Invitational All-Terrain Decathlon Classic." The first one to run around the building and ring the bell at the front desk wins a large homemade trophy made of boxes covered with shiny wrapping paper with a colander on top. Very fancy.

Also, Kendall doesn't pronounce "decathlon" correctly. He says "discathlon," which, as far as I've been able to tell from briefly looking it up, isn't a real word. I mean, it's something you could chalk up to in-universe as a term the boys made up on their own, but this is probably just Kendall Schmidt flubbing the line.

The race goes about as well as you'd expect.

Carlos is declared the winner!

An enraged Bitters then tells the boys that they have to pay for all the damage they've caused, which amounts to $2,000 (and 30¢). Gustavo is NOT happy that his dogs have gotten themselves into so much trouble. He's sick of them breaking things, which leads us into a montage of some of the things around the studio they've broken in the last several months. Shout out to my favorite part of the montage:

Because like...why. Why is James singing a taunting song about having a smoothie? Why does this make Kendall so upset that he feels the need to smack it straight outta James's hand? There's missing context here. James and Kendall were definitely just not getting along that day, and this was the final straw.

Anyway, Gustavo tells them that they have to pay him his $2,000 back, and until they do, they're not allowed in the Palm Woods pool. In order to come up with $500 each, they're going to need to get jobs. This is horrifying news to our boys.

Carlos gets stuck being Gustavo's production assistant, and James Kendall, and Logan return to the Palm Woods to do some job searching. After reading through a listing of horrible jobs, Kendall and Logan set out to become sign spinners, and James finds an ad for "the new face of Cuda." Obviously, he thinks this is the perfect job for him.

This leads into that bizarre but delightful scene where he talks to himself in the mirror, but it's like...some sort of alter-ego with a slightly deeper voice??

Mirror James: "Look at yourself! Who's handsomer than you?"

James: "No one!"

Mirror James: "Who's got more style than you?"

James: "No one!"

Mirror James: "Who's smarter than you?"

James: "Well, lots of people. But that has nothing to do with being a model."

I mean...he's right. What a himbo. Katie appoints herself as James's manager, and the two of them set out to take the fashion world by storm.

Meanwhile, at Kendall and Logan's sign-spinning job:

Yeah, they get fired pretty quickly. Also, can I point out that one of my first thoughts upon watching the above moment was how close they came to possibly being hit by cars?? If either one of them had fallen to the street instead, they would have died. And it would have been in the stupidest way possible. Cause of death? SIGN SPINNING.

And we're not even too far into this episode yet, but I'm enjoying this Kendall and Logan storyline. I don't think there have been many moments thus far in the series where it's just been the two of them paired up ("Big Time Crib" is the only one that comes to mind), and I like seeing them teamed up for some shenanigans. I've always had a soft spot for the Kendall and Logan dynamic, especially when it comes to Kendall's ability to help Logan let loose. I feel like...Logan feels the most secure with Kendall? Which makes sense because Kendall is the leader, but still. It's nice to see Logan come out of his shell a bit, and seeing him act all goofy and over the top with Kendall as they (horribly) spin those signs is one of those moments.

Onto Carlos's story! He's been told to get a coffee for Gustavo, and can I just say how much I love the "Carlos does battle with a coffee maker" plot? This boy is given such a simple task: get coffee, and this machine proceeds to make his life miserable for the rest of the episode.

I'm not sure how many people currently in the fandom were also on Tumblr back when the series was on, but there was this popular BTR blog that consisted of posting beautiful, aesthetic pictures with ridiculous quotes from the show on them. That was the whole blog, and the fandom loved it. There are two specific ones I remember, and I've recreated them here so those who didn't get the original experience can see what I'm talking about.

The BTR fandom sure was something. Wish I could remember what the blog was called (though I'm not sure it'd even still be up).

While Carlos fights for his life at Rocque Records, Kendall and Logan return to 2J to try to find new jobs. After reading off a series of ridiculous options, Kendall has his own idea

Before Kendall can drag Logan off to the nearest hospital to have their kidney's extracted, there's a knock at the door. A woman has come to ask if Mrs. Knight is home and can watch her son, and Kendall agrees to do it (she'll pay them $20 an hour). This gives the guys the idea to offer a babysitting service in order to earn the money they need. They quickly have lots of eager parents lined up to take advantage of their convenient service.

Over at James's modeling job, he quickly realizes that he ain't the only pretty face in town.

They have a brief "face-off," but James is no match for all the handsome in the room, and he just like. Passes out.

Over at Kendall and Logan Babysitting Services Incorporated, things quickly fall apart. Unable to handle the energy of eight kids, Kendall and Logan end up tied to chairs. Mama Knight comes to rescue them, but she quickly flees the premises after.

We return to Carlos for a moment to check on how he's doing, which is Not Well. The room is being filled with foam, and unplugging the coffee maker does nothing since it has a "reserve power" mode. Carlos also causes it to activate its "self-defense" mode when he smacks it several times.

Down at the Palm Woods lobby, a depressed James is sipping a smoothie. He sadly tells Katie, "In Minnesota, I was 'The Face.' Now, I'm just 'A Face.' I'm just a handsome grain of sand on an extremely beautiful beach."

Yeah, so he's doing great.

Meanwhile, Kendall and Logan are having a day

They decide to put the kids' energy to good use and have them run a car-washing service while they sit back and collect the money.

Back at Rocque Records, (wow, this episode is busy) Kelly discovers the catastrophe unfolding in the break room and freaks out. When Carlos says they have to destroy the machine, she protests. That is, until things get personal.

"Kelly is dumb. Women are weak," the coffee machine says (it also calls her "cupcake"), to which she and Carlos promptly charge into the room to attack it with a bat and microphone stand. Together, they defeat C.A.L.

Katie gets James another modeling gig for Cuda—an elbow model for chapped elbow cream. James is not happy. He angrily model-walks away.

However, he's stopped in his tracks by none other than Mirror James, who tells him to embrace the job and his beautiful elbow so they can get back to the pool. James agrees and returns to the photoshoot.

I cannot get over the Mirror James stuff. Does this happen in any other episodes?? I can't remember. What is WRONG with him?

We then go to wrap up the babysitting plot. All the parents come to pick up their kids while Kendall and Logan happily take the payment owed them after a day of such suffering.

And with that, the guys have earned all the money needed to pay Gustavo back! It took them less than a day, lol. But they only have a few seconds to celebrate before an angry mob descends upon them demanding pay for all the additional chaos caused in their money-making attempts. Among the charges are a fine from the city for running an illegal daycare, destroying that coffee maker (an $8,000 prototype), and the cost of James's wardrobe from his modeling gig. So, when all is said and done, they've paid Gustavo back the $2,000.30, but now they owe him $14,089.

Gustavo flips his lid, starts destroying things around the studio, and gets caught by Griffin, who tells Gustavo he has to pay him back all that money. We end the episode with Kelly, Gustavo, and the guys all running a car wash at the Palm Woods.

There's so much to love about this episode. Disaster follows these boys wherever they go. They cannot have a normal day if they tried.

On Christmas Day 2013, at the Church of Saint Hyacinth in Legnica, Poland, a consecrated host fell on the floor. The host was put into a container with water so that it would dissolve. The bleeding Host in Poland was approved for veneration in April 2016 by Bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski of Legnica, who said that it “has the hallmarks of a Eucharistic miracle.”

Geforce RTX 5000: Chiplet GPU Specs

Geforce RTX 5000: Chiplet GPU and major changes

Next-generation Nvidia graphics cards may employ chiplet GPUs and innovative architecture. Geforce RTX 5000 rumours have persisted for months. The latest rumours attach a multi-chiplet module (“MCM”) to Ada Lovelace’s successor, as it is employed on some Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards (“RDNA 3”). Thus, graphics units should also alter significantly.

The Twitter user kopite7kimi, known for pre-releases, wants to know which GPUs will be utilised in next-generation Geforce graphics cards and how they will be created. Geforce RTX 5000 news is highly anticipated. The latest generation may improve performance, according to rumours.

Nvidia may consider chiplets for its upcoming graphics cards. According to kopite7kimi and other sources, Nvidia is reworking the graphics units of the next Geforce RTX 5000 (“Blackwell”) and transitioning to a multi-chiplet module.

AMD’s Navi 31 and 32 GPUs adopt this idea. This concept would help Nvidia boost graphics card performance and efficiency. Nvidia reduces graphics card size and power usage by employing numerous smaller chips. Whether Nvidia confirms rumours is unknown. The Geforce RTX 5000 should come in 2024.

Number of Graphics Processing Clusters (“GPCs”) and Texture Processing Clusters (“TPCs”) will remain unchanged, but their internal structure will be updated. AMD’s generation transition from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3 showed this process. AMD changed the internal structure of RDNA 3 TPCs, improving performance.The 2024 Geforce RTX 5000 is expected from Nvidia. Whether Nvidia plans to rebuild graphics units is unknown.

Chip codes include GB202, GB203, GB205, GB206, and GB207. “Panzerlied” from the Chiphell forum leaked information supporting these rumours. The chips should range from the high-end GPU GB202 to the entry-level GPU GB207.

Leaked Nvidia GPU roadmaps indicate the Geforce RTX 5000 series will not be introduced until the following year. The series, known as “Ada Lovelace Next,” will use new GPUs and architecture. Nvidia has not addressed the rumours. However, the corporation may seek to increase its advantage over the competition before unveiling a new graphics card generation.

GeForce RTX 5000: 5090 and 5080 with GDDR7 and PCIe 5.0.

Nvidia plans to unveil the Geforce RTX 5000 series with two new GPUs, the 5090 and 5080, according to leaks. Both graphics cards claim to use the new “David Blackwell” architecture and GDDR7 graphics memory. The Geforce RTX 5090 should be the series’ strongest graphics card. The 18,432-CUDA-core GB202 GPU is believed to power it.

The Geforce RTX 5080 will use the 10,752 CUDA core GB203 GPU. Both graphics cards should be PCIe 5.0. This increases bandwidth and performance. Additionally, GDDR7 graphics memory is crucial. GDDR7 should boost energy efficiency by 25%.

Nvidia will employ GDDR7 in the Geforce RTX 5090 and 5080. This should reach 36 gigabits per second.Over GDDR6X, GDDR7 graphics memory has many improvements. Bandwidth, power efficiency, and latency are enhanced.

Another performance boost comes from GDDR7 in high-end Geforce RTX 5000 series machines. Data flow between the GPU and memory is faster with higher bandwidth, improving graphics performance.

The fast GDDR7 memory with up to 36 GiBit/s would further boost memory bandwidth:

These are assumptions based on leaked information and not binding. Nvidia hasn’t announced its next-generation Geforce graphics cards.

Performance projections for Nvidia Geforce RTX 5090 are challenging

The Geforce RTX 5090 may be 2.5 times quicker than the 4090, according to rumours. This is a great performance boost, but these rumours are unconfirmed. The performance boost may be attributed to hardware upgrades or DLSS 3 with Frame Generation. DLSS 3, Nvidia’s new deep learning upscaling technique, is claimed to increase performance and image quality.

Geforce RTX 5090 specs are likewise theoretical. The graphics card should have 18,432 CUDA cores, 96 MiB L2 cache, and over 3 GHz GPU frequency.

Originally, Viper, or Barracuda being the name he took to disconnect from his father was not a shape with malicious intent, rather someone who was trying to make the world a better place. He had a horrible illness, and became a scientist to find a cure to it. After 3 years of work, it became too strenuous to work on his own, and he didn’t know Deluxe, or Dub at the time. So, he came up with an idea. How about I make a robot to help me with this? And thus, he started building one. He called it Friend while it was in development, as to not get attached.

Around a year after beginning his work, the tree had gifted him a Hero. It was Gold! Caring for Gold, continuing his research, and working on Friend became too large of a load, so he had to abandon Friend for a while. After 5 months of caring for Gold, he returned to working on Friend, now beginning to add aspects that Heroes have to it. Flight, a short burst of speed, and the ability to compress itself into a smaller form to increase speed even more were the easiest aspects. Adding fucking magic??? Not so much.

Eventually Barracuda’s research backfired, and it created the Corruption, blowing up his lab. It corrupted him, infected the rest of his experiences, as well as corrupting Friend. He quickly went home to check on Gold, and that’s how he found out that the corruption hurt Heroes. Terrified, he ran to seek comfort in Dub, corrupting him as well. Then they went crazy blah blah blah event stuff but this is about the pink Heroes so!

What about Friend? It sat in the remains of Barracuda’s lab for years, rusting and collecting dust. Until! It gets found! By Warren (@love--and--corruption this fucker /aff owns him)! I don’t know why he takes it home, but he does! Fixes it up, powers it on, and gives him a name. Penl. Yes, he uses He/They/It, he took He to be like his dad <3

Even though he’s a robot, Penl still learns and grows (mentally) like a shape, so he was homeschooled by Warren and Skye (who is also owned by Milo). One reaching the age of 10, he learned about the Heroes when he was out exploring with Warren. He saw them being trained in the forest by Pyrare, and knowing he had similar functions to their powers, he wondered if he could try to help like they do. So, he dedicated himself to trying to help others. (Side note, this wasn’t the only reason that led to him wanting to help others, but it was the main reason.)

Skip ahead to the second event, when Cyanide was created. Deluxe knew of Barracuda creating Friend (yes, a fair amount of their timeline was skipped because this isn’t on Cuda and Deluxe), and it was his main inspiration for creating Cyanide. Someone who was made to help, obey, and serve him loyally. With these desires in mind, he made contact with the tree. Cyanide was created, but not perfectly. Unlike in the show (to me), she isn’t fully a robot, rather a Hero that had their creation impeded during the process. It left her as a skeleton with just her mouth and right arm fully formed, causing Deluxe to have to create the robotic parts to give her life.

He was less than satisfied with Cyanide, especially since he could tell she wasn’t the most… willing to follow his plans. So, even though he already planned to make more Heroes, he made it his priority. He tried his best to figure out why she could possibly turn out the way that she did, and he concluded that it was because he wasn’t chosen to be a caretaker, thus his bond is low with the tree, meaning there wasn’t enough magic/energy for it to form a Hero. The tree is technically a “shape”, meaning it has thoughts of its own. Meaning that it can be influenced. He just had to force it into its shape form. Iris, Ginger (Orange), Cosmic (Cube), and Tristam (Cyan), had all snuck into the tower in order to get info on what Deluxe’s plans are. They split up, caretaker with their Hero, and Iris and Ginger ran into Bane. Now, since this is taking place around a couple days to a week or two after their creation, they still have the mind of a child, as they should. In my au, the youngest Hero is Tristam at 16. Heroes mature only slightly faster than normal shapes, so they still act their age. All Bane could do at this point was walk, talk, and fly. They could not fight, meaning they were not a threat. But Iris attacked anyways. And he ended up killing Bane. He was appalled with his actions at first, but then he snapped back to his cold and cruel personality, threatening Ginger to keep silent.

This made Dub realize that having a fully organic hero might not be the best thing. They can clearly die, but also they have free will. He needed someone that he could easily manipulate. So he evaluated the other three. Cyanide had access to all of the information in the world, leading to her having conflicted views on which side she believed to be in the right, and what one to side with. However, he could just reprogram her. Ketamine was the most organic one left, and was thus the weakest link. It being able to think freely could cause major problems, meaning they should be left out of most plans unless absolutely needed. And then, Ricin. Half organic, half machine. What he believes to be perfect. He can reprogram her robotic parts to keep her from being able to use them against her, and he can do his best in manipulating her to be on his side. While yes, he could theoretically do the same with Ketamine, it would be much harder. There is less that he can reprogram, and Deluxe isn’t the best with manipulation, meaning that if it begins to doubt him, it could easily turn on him and attack with little limitations. So Ricin was his go-to Hero. Plus, she’s a Monster so she was already getting favorite child treatment.

He focused all of his time and energy on Ricin, neglecting the other two completely. He trained, manipulated, and upgraded her as much as possible, causing her to develop a superiority complex, Cyanide and Ketamine developing an inferiority complex, as well as spite towards both Ricin and Deluxe. This also led to Ricin also being a perfectionist. They’ve seen how Deluxe treats the other corrupts, especially its siblings. It doesn’t want to end up like them.

Cyanide, in an act of rebellion disguised as obedience, began to spy on the heroes and caretakers. She kept a close eye on how they behaved, and became quite fond of most of them. Her distain for Ricin and Deluxe only grew, and she began spending more and more time out the tower, until Deluxe finally got suspicious, replacing her chip with one that made her more obedient. As well as an asshole. - -

Ketamine however kept to itself. They would stay inside Addicus’ lab, looking at all of his mixtures and experiments when he wasn’t inside. They eventually worked up the courage to ask Deluxe if they could work with Addicus since he didn’t want it doing any work on the field, which he agreed to. Addicus taught them how to create almost every element, and even showed them how to create explosives that they could use to defend themself since they couldn’t fight.

After 3 weeks of doing this, he wanted to create a new Hero. But he didn’t know if he could create one like Ricin… then he thought. He knew that Friend- Penl was somewhere out there, he had corrupted his dads, who sometimes talk about him. (He had asked who they were talking about because he needs to know everything -n-) If he could find him, he could reprogram him to work for him. So, he went on the hunt, and eventually found him sitting outside his house. He didn’t move nor flinch when Deluxe showed up, but he did ask one thing. “Do you know where my dads are?” Deluxe hesitated. His original plan was to completely wipe his memory card, then replace his chip to make him work for him. But… something about him just… reminded him of his own past. He couldn’t just delete that. He scooped him up and promised that he’d take him to them. He replaced his chip, but left his memory card untouched. This act of kindness would be his undoing.

As Penl, nicknamed Hemlock by Deluxe, began interacting with the other pink Heroes, he began to see how unfair this was. In replacing his chip, Deluxe made him believe that they were the good guys helping everyone. In seeing Cyanide and Ketamine be left out and Ricin worked to the core, he thought that Cyanide and Ketamine should be allowed to help others too, and that Ricin shouldn’t be getting all the glory. So, when he could, he would sneak out with them, going to the Heroes and Caretakers to fight. The more they did, the more all three of them began to realize/solidify the fact that they are not in the right. To Ketamine, this told it that Deluxe was 100% a bad shape. But to Penl? It completely shattered his view of the world. He almost went straight back to the Tower to confront Deluxe, but was held back by Cyanide and Ketamine. They said that they should wait until the caretakers fully mature their Heroes to confront him, which Penl reluctantly agreed to.

But, Cyanide didn’t plan on helping. As soon as they snuck back into the tower, she went to report back to Deluxe. She’s been doing this the entire time, only playing along with Penl and Ketamine to get more information out of the two, as well as info on the Heroes and Caretakers. Once Deluxe was informed, he came up with a plan. A frantic one that he tried to play off. He planned to forcefully mature both Ricin and Cyanide (which he didn’t tell them) once the Heroes and caretakers showed up. He would then use the tree to give himself even more power, since he knows he hasn’t extracted as much as he possibly could.

Once the day comes around, he does exactly as imagined. He shoves Ricin and Cyanide into the tree, forcing them into their own version of Annihilate. Penl and Ketamine stepped in to help the Caretakers, and to Deluxe’s surprise, they can actually fight. And that’s when he began to panic. He tried to get power from the tree the same way that the Heroes did, to no avail. And that’s when he stabbed himself with the tree in a panic, going into Annihilate.

Focusing on the pink Heroes, neither Ricin nor Cyanide could handle being in Annihilate for long due to being so young (barely a couple months old), so they ended up destabilizing and exiting the form after around 5 minutes. It put both of the completely out of commission, and Penl and Ketamine took them out the battlefield and tied them up, working on a way to reprogram them. Cyanide was easy enough, Penl had snooped through Deluxe’s room prior to this and had found her old chip. Ricin was much more complicated, her legs and jaw needing to be completely rewired to be back to normal.

Skipping to post event, and Cyanide and Ricin have awakened. Cyanide is back to her standard self, however Ricin still has full loyalty to Deluxe. In the time that they were unconscious, they were both taken in by Warren n Skye, as well as given new names. Ketamine is now Lily, Cyanide is Cherry, and Ricin is Julia. While the other two liked their names, Ricin outright refused it. She refused to listen to anyone other than Deluxe. It took a long time to convince her that what he was doing was wrong, and she eventually did accept her new family, and her new name.

Do you remember Bane? The one that was killed? They’re an Angel. Ever since Deluxe’s defeat, they’ve been wandering aimlessly around the remains of the tower. They didn’t know where to go, or who to seek out. Not Deluxe, they’re scared of him. And they weren’t alive for long enough to have fond memories of their siblings. So they wandered. And wandered. Until eventually, they spotted someone in the distance. They rushed over to greet them, and it’s… Iris? They don’t remember much of their death, one of the things that they forgot being their killer’s face. And so they don’t understand why Iris is so frightened, and why he runs away. They try their best to keep up with him, but they lose him after a while.

Now, they’re completely and utterly lost. They don’t know where to go; they don’t know where they can go. What if others are afraid of them like Iris? They end up wandering for a long time, stopping once they come across a small town. They’re hesitant to enter, but they don’t know where else to go. Unexpectedly, shapes aren’t running away from them. They’re glad! Confused, but glad! That is until they run into Cherry.

They’re shocked to see her, and they barely recognize each other. But once they do, they’re overjoyed. Cherry quickly takes them to the others, and they’re super happy to reunite! As well as to meet these new faces! They get along extremely well with Penl, Warren, and Skye, and they get adopted by them too :3

A short theory post of me attempting to understand Ningning’s role in aespa’s lore and what she really does in the overall story. This post discuses what happened in Ningning’s side in aespa’s EP. 1 Black Mamba - SMCU video. There could be more posts as the next episode is released.

In aespa’s lore, Ningning has the role of being a ‘ED Hacker’. Though, oddly, she is mostly shown being an artist. Because of that, its confusing to see what’s the correlation of an artist and a hacker. So here’s me attempting to dissect this.

As of now we still don’t know what ED stands for, but for sure, Ningning is a hacker. After rewatching EP 1 Black Mamba SMCU, I found out that her role somehow has something to do with cryptocurrency.

If my translation is correct, Ningning is targeting this lady (art director) because she is under suspicion.

My possible theories:

1. Ningning hacked into her exhibition using Ethminer and replaced (?) the previous art with her art.

Weakness of this theory: To be honest, I don’t know if you can hack using an Ethminer. I don’t think that’s the function either. It’s difficult to get the answers for this too unfortunately. This is my first attempt in patching her hacker role with mining cryptocurrency.

2. The art director stole/benefit unfairly from the artwork of someone else and was selling it to people as an NFT(?), Ningning stole (or bought???) the artwork using Ethminer before it falls into the wrong hands. That’s why the article says ‘Artist Exploitation’.

Weakness: I’m unsure of this theory too. Why would Ningning buy it too just to save it?? If only there’s more explanation to that article.

Those are just attempts by the way, I’m not concluding yet. Even the video is still vague.

I’m confused if Ningning is hacking or just successfully mined???? Again, I would need someone who knows this better. What’s for sure is that there is mining involved. Since there is art involved so does this mean there are NFTs?

We still don’t know what ED means either. But its a part of the role name, ‘ED Hacker’. So Ningning hacks for it? My biggest guess is that the E stands for Etherium or Ether, I mean we had Ethash and Ethminer involved. Speaking of which, the word ‘Ether’ isn’t foreign either in SMCU. NCT has their own definition of Ether; sea of unconscious. So does that mean aespa has their own ‘Ether’?
