Two Fanarts (FW and CB) in two different holidays: Independence Day (Fourth of July) and Tanabata (a Japanese holiday). I know both of these two holidays were already passed a month ago - 4th of July and Tanabata (July 7th), but it’s better late than never.

Hope you had a good Independence Day - Mine was good because my family and I went out to stay at my brother’s house for Independence Day/Summer vacation. ;)

1. FW in Independence Day/4th of July theme:

Victor F and Elsa were watching at the fireworks together, while they were both sitting on a picnic blanket outside (Yep, Elsa’s hand placed on Victor F’s hand). The rest of the kids (Bob, Nassor, Toshiaki, Weird Girl, and Edgar) were also watching at the fireworks. The children were amazed to see the fireworks on Independence Day night. (As for the dogs, Sparky and Persephone, they were inside at Victor F’s house together (after all, some dogs can be scared with fireworks)).

Pardon the picnic blanket - I tried my best while I looked up on a pattern for references. I also looked over the 4th of July picnic and fireworks for references from online. As for Elsa and Victor F’s Summer clothings - they were referenced from children’s vintage clothings (mostly 1950’s) that I looked up from online.

2. CB in Tanabata theme:

Victor VD and Victoria were watching the stars together at night - they were at the bridge outside from town. They were so amazed that they saw two big, bright stars together - represent Vega and Altair (Orihime and Hikoboshi).

Tanabata (meaning “Star Festival”) is a Japanese holiday that celebrates every seventh day on a seventh month (July 7). It was originated from a Japanese myth, Orihime and Hikoboshi (Vega and Altair) - about two lovers who were separated by the Milky Way (so, you can say that the couple were “star-crossed” lovers). So, every July 7th, the princess and the cow herder can reunite together by crossing the bridge (made by magpies) once a year. In tradition, people in Japan write their own wishes on colored papers, and then hang them on bamboo trees. The paper wishes were called “tanzaku.”

Even though these CB characters lived in Europe (England), I’m imagining that Victor VD and Victoria both read the tale of “Orihime and Hikoboshi” from the book of Japanese myths and folklores. Then much later on, they both go out at the bridge to look at the stars at night - to see the stars of Vega and Altair (And how about that? A Victorian couple were on a bridge to watch the stars - while the Japanese legend mentioned the bridge for a star-crossed lovers to across the Milky Way. Get the picture when it comes with bridges?).

Originally the background’s stars (in white) were going to be in different shapes and sizes - tiny dots and star shapes (small and large). However, I didn’t wanted the background’s stars to be mistaken as snowflakes. Then, much later on, I upgraded the background into a Starry -Night style (referenced from Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” - and even the “Cafe Terrace at Night” ) with few different colors (white, light blue, dark blue, and yellow).

Done with drawing pencils, art markers (Prismacolor, Copic, Fabre-Castell), color pencils, ink pens (including ink brush pen), and Posca markers. Enjoy.

May I present Altair, my Strife demon Oc that took form just for my 'A Song of Blood and Change' fic?

Facts under the cut

Altair is just shy of six hundred years old. They identify as nonbinary. Their star they are named after comes from the constellation Aquila.

They stumbled upon William by chance while he was trying to rise in power about a century after he'd killed his Maker. They took a liking to the scrappy young-to them at least- vampire, and offered him a deal. They would offer him guidance in the magical world, teach him what they could, and protect him in exchange of feeding from the vampire's stress. William agreed and the two have formed a close bond.

Altair is in the gray side of the morality spectrum. They will do, mostly, anything to achieve their or William's goals. If it unburdens the load that William handles, they'll do it if it's within their powers.

They like to play up a role in front of other vampires, acting as William's butler. It makes certain vampires let down their guards around them and they end up talking more freely if they think of them as an overworked servant. Which makes it easier to report back to William.

Vincent still thinks Altair is William's butler, which the demon finds amusing since Alexis and Porter both know they are William's confidant.

They can't stand certain textures and prefer to wear gloves. They have no idea why certain fabrics or stones make their skin crawl. They even tried changing forms to see if the sensation persisted. After the aversion remained, they accepted it was something that was a part of them.

Altair is a Serenity Daemon who has a popularity in Aria for having the ideal face for d(a)emons, he holds the title for the ‘most beautiful demon’ in his plane.

Larry is Vincent’s childhood friend, he met him in his highschool years and were bestfriends together until the Wonderworld Incident. Larry never believed that Vincent died, and lived in Dahlia after graduating culinary in their university. But twenty-three years since the incident, Larry was killed by Quinn and he failed to find Vincent while he was still alive.

A Song of Blood and Change, chapter 2

William lowered his latest charge into one of the chairs in his library. Normally, he’d be conducting his business with them in his office, but the room was designed more for professional matters and not comfort. He watched as they settled into the plush cushions, a soft sigh falling from their lips. It wouldn’t be long before they woke from their Tranced sleep.

      He felt the stirrings of magic and turned to face the Rift that formed as a familiar presence stepped onto this plane. “Altair, I wasn’t expecting a visit, my friend.” William greeted the demon as they brushed a hand over their clothes. It wasn’t as if dust could settle on the fabric when the clothes were manifested when they took on a physical form after leaving Aria, but he wouldn’t mention the nervous tell. His demonic confidant preferred to keep up a calm façade.

      “My apologies, William. I sensed your…confliction and simply wanted to assure myself that you were well. I didn’t expect that you would have company.” The demon’s voice was soft, with a slight rasp that made William want to offer them something to drink, though he knew that was simply how they always sounded. Their eyes studied the human that was curled up in the chair, two mismatched orbs of molten gold and a crimson that rivaled freshly spilled blood set in a sea of the black sclera. Those eyes focused in on his own silver as they tilted their head “It is rare for you to bring a human in here.”

      That was certainly true, his library was a sort of safe haven for the monarch. Books that he’d collected over his centuries, knick-knacks and mementos that held more sentimental value than monetary, artworks that had caught his eye. It was one of the rooms in his estate with absolutely no windows, no chance of the sun’s rays reaching him while he was here. He’d even chosen the furniture with more care, concerned with comfort even as he took the time to find furnishings that would compliment the dark wood of the shelves that took up most of the space. Not many people were even allowed in the room, the Wards that were in place ensured that.

      But he’d wanted the little human to be comfortable when they woke, and this was where his feet had taken him. He didn’t quite understand it himself, but he wasn’t going to voice that to the Strife demon. They might be his confidant, but that didn’t mean they were privy to every single thought he had. Especially sentiments that weren’t rooted in logic. Though, he had no qualms over informing them of his plans for this human.

      “The human is Latent, Altair. I plan on giving them to Vincent to protect.” The demon scoffed softly at the indifferent tone the vampire had adopted. It was a reflex, one couldn’t wear their heart on their sleeve when they were in a position of power, after all.

      “For a Latent to just show up in your territory… I don’t know if it was luck or a cruel twist of fate. You have enough to stress over without this new addition.” They hummed, eyeing the human before turning to him. “If you’re so set on keeping them, I could wipe their memories for you?”

      William fought the urge to press his fingertips to the throbbing that took root in his temples. He knew their offer only stemmed from their concern for his own wellbeing. He could even admit to himself that making the human a blank slate would make things simpler for him. But he wouldn’t do that to them, unless their past was particularly tragic and better left forgotten.

      “I appreciate the offer, my friend. But I don’t believe it to be necessary.”

      The demon rose one shoulder in a shrug, “As you wish… are you sure you want to gift them to Vincent? He’s been…a handful as of late, hasn’t he?”

      William allowed himself to sigh fully at the reminder, his shoulders slumping as his head lowered. He’d seen plenty of people change after being Turned. For most, it was a defensive reaction. A way to protect themselves after entering a second life. He shouldn’t have been surprised when Vincent took on a role to survive. What William hadn’t anticipated was just how deeply that mask would take over.

      The prince had taken on the flirty role of a playboy in his bid for blood. It kept him fed, which at the very least, gave William some solace. The only time he’d had to Invoke his second Progeny had been to get him to feed after all. But the role had taken over far too well. The prince was drowning his guilt, his remorse over his first life, in blood and pleasure. William had given Vincent time to try and come to terms on his own. Now, it was time he intervened.

      “Responsibility could be just the push he needs. The chance presented itself, so I might as well try to ‘hit two birds with one stone’ as they say.” William raised his head, his posture straightening to the poised, yet relaxed default he’d mastered over the years.

      “It’s worth a try at least…but maybe you should have gifted him a dog or cat for practice first before you give him a whole human.” Altair’s eyes crinkled a bit at their jest.

      The king gave his confidant a small smile, “If I had known this little one would arrive, I would have given Vincent a furry pet to ‘practice’ with. But life doesn’t come with warnings.”

      The two centuries-old beings stiffened as the human turned in their sleep, their brow furrowed as an unintelligible mumble fell from their lips. Their eyelids started to flicker with the stirrings of wakefulness.

      Altair’s form shifted in the blink of an eye. Their marbled gray skin tone became a muted tan. The bright orange of their hair faded into more of a coppery red. The mismatched eyes became the same silver shade as the king they stood beside. The horns and tail that marked them as demonic vanished, leaving only their vampiric façade in place.

      The disguise had been William’s idea, it wouldn’t do for his fellow monarch’s to know that he had close relations with a demon, considering that their blood was poison to vampires. So the demon pretended to be a vampire, using subtle memory manipulation on any Empowered that met them into believing that they had a core of their own. The ruse allowed Altair to be at William’s side, providing the vampire with the insight of their many years, magical knowledge, the unique demonic perception and manipulation of emotions and the company of someone he truly trusted.

      Their arrangement had started off purely transactional. He had met them when he was still somewhat young, after the death of his Maker. He'd been under a lot of stress trying to survive and claw his way up in the world. It had been luck, or maybe even fate, that Altair was a Strife demon. They provided William with a powerful connection in the beginning while he gave them a good meal. But after centuries together, their friendship had cemented.

      The human slowly opened groggy eyes, squinting around the room as they sat up. “Where…wasn’t I at that park?” they mumbled to themselves before they froze when they saw William and Altair. The poor human was the textbook definition of ‘deer in the headlights.’

      William stepped closer, keeping his tone gentle as if they were an animal that would dash off at the slightest hint of aggression. “You are in my library, dear one. I know this must be a shock, but rest assured that you will come to no harm.”

      The human’s eyes sparked as they placed their feet on the ground, their frozen posture thawing. “Who even are you? You took me from the park, didn’t you? Did you drug me or something?” Their voice held some fear, but it was buried under suspicion, defiance and even some offense that they’d been taken.

      Altair looked away as they pressed their fingers to their lips, trying to hide a smile. It wasn’t often that anyone, especially a human, spoke to the Solaire king in such a way. William kept his expression calm, raising his hands palm out in the universal ‘I mean no harm’ gesture.

     “My apologies, I forgot to introduce myself. I am William Solaire, and this is my friend Altair Luminari. Yes, I did bring you here, but it was for your own safety. Wonder World is not a place you should be strolling through at night. And no, I did not drug you.”

      Their eyes narrowed at the pair, but they didn’t feel like they’d been drugged, not that they had any experience but they assumed they’d feel groggy or foggy headed. But they actually felt pretty good, like they’d had a restful night’s sleep. Though with the room being windowless it wasn’t like they could tell how long they’d been out.

      “What do you mean by ‘your own safety’? I wasn’t in any danger.”

      Their unease only grew at the….remorseful? expression that crossed William’s face. He moved slowly until he took the chair that was across from them. “There is much to explain, dear one. I don’t expect you will believe my words either…but I will try to explain.”
