Okay.... thanks for the extra context. 

Back in the day (like >25 years ago), when all communication online was via text, and we had to add punctuation for nuance, the more parentheses around a person meant the stronger the hug...  If I really meant it, I hardly ever stopped at three ;-).

“we’re consolidating here to make sure you can’t touch this”. 

Okay, now I’ve got that M.C. Hammer song stuck in my head.

God, I had no idea about the parentheses thing. Im old so once upon a time in the internet circles I traveled in it meant you were giving the person a virtual hug.
