Heya everyyyyone im back for another post before i dissapear for whatever long like usual- 💔 Been having problems to trying to draw...like in general, maybe due to burnout or just out of another stuff,its been quite difficult. Is not even out of not having ideas, i do have quite lots and i also have very much so, lots of wips! 💥 But i guess its still an struggle on its own, just going to keep going! This is a sort of Check-in Tag game thing? I was tagged by @vikingstrash, so thank you dear!

1. Why did you choose your url?

I used to have a different tumblr, and then my sister saw me on it and literally took the mouse and made me follow her own tumblr, and it made me So Immensely uncomfortable, I immediately went and made a whole new blog, and messaged all my mutuals privately to tell them I was moving so my sister wouldn't find out. As I struggled to come up with something more creative than 'time-lady," I remembered one of my mom's favorite sayings, "Reality sucks, live in fiction" and since livinginfiction was taken, my friend (who was helping with the crisis) and I added an 's.' Voila. Seven years later, it's the only username i have online. XD

2. Any side blog?

Three, actually. We've got @merthurismycrack where I reblog Merthur shit, @samspsychicpowers for some SPN stuff, and the side blog that's basically my main blog at this point: @asterekmess which is where all my Teen Wolf and Sterek stuff goes.

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

Uhhh, I've been on this blog since August of 2014, but my old blog was started in....March 2013. I've been around a fucking while.

4. Do you have a queue tag?

HA. Fuck no. Do I look that organized? Y'all get three hours of spam reblogs, and then I disappear into the aether. How it should be. XD

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

This is essentially the same as I said for question one. Sister found the old blog, and I needed a new one. I tend to make my side blogs for more pointed material, so that my main blog can have like...the amalgamation of general stuff i like, and then I can keep the fandomy content more concentrated into the side blogs.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Originally, I did not have this icon. I had this pic I found online with these Beautiful bronze wings against a black background. But then, around the time I decided I wanted to sort of...simplify things and make my username for my online stuff all the same, with all the same pfp's so that I was easily recognized, etc, I realized that....that picture was not mine. I didn't design it or anything. And i couldn't find its source to ask for permission to use it. And it started making me feel shitty for using it in the first place. So I spent like an hour and a half trying to make my Own Wing pic to use, and failed miserably. As a last ditch effort, i went through my 'artistic' photos on my phone and found this one. I adore sky pics, and cloud pics, etc, so it was super my thing, and I just slapped it on there. Still not sick of it. XD I also went to my side blogs and changed out the pfp's for photos that I'd taken, except the sterek blog, because that one is literally just a black triskelion on a white background, and it's a pretty non-specific thing. I would have used a picture of my Own Tattoo, but it's very hard to get a picture of my back that doesn't have weird lighting, and I'm just too lazy.

7. Why did you choose your header?

All my headers are also photos that I've taken or art pieces that I've made. In the case of this blog, it's a picture I made with a 'galaxy maker' online thingy. I love green. I love blue. Ta dah. In general i just try to find something that gives me the right vibes or has the right color palette to match what it's for. (orange and blue for sterek, trees for merlin, and wings for spn)

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

On this blog? I.....just spent two hours digging through all my posts tagged 'personal' bc i wanted the post that I MADE with the most notes...and i have no idea. I mostly respond to other posts, rather than making my own. The highest note count i can find is a post i made abt having friends that aren't in your fandom, which means you can use inspirational quotes to help them through tough times without them realizing ur quoting doctor who or something. 22 notes. *fingerguns* I'm famous, i know.

9. How many mutuals do you have ?

Is...is that a thing i can check?? or do you expect me to hand count??

10. How many followers do you have right now?

Uhghhghghgh, this blog has 439 at the moment, and i'm pretty sure not a lot of those are porn bots, bc i usually screen new followers for it. a lot of them have come over from my sterek blog though.

11. How many people do you follow?

hehe....uh...36.....one of which is my husband....

12. Have you ever made a shitpost?

I don't even know what the requirements for something being a 'shitpost' are....but i think no?

13. How often do you use tumblr?

Uh, nearly every day, multiple times a day. Sometimes i forget it exists for a couple days, though. It's my only social media. I dont use twitter or facebook or instagram. I Have Accounts, but I literally dont open those apps more than once a month.

14. Did you have a fight /argument with another  blog ? Who won?

My sterek blog gets in fights more often than it should. XD I'm feisty. And I dunno who wins, i think no one. it's tumblr. there's no real winning or losing.

15. How do feel about “ you need to reblog  this” post?

Oh 90% of the time I'll fucking ignore it on principle. I come to tumblr to enjoy myself and escape. I refuse to guilt the shit out of myself and my followers for not reblogging something deemed Essential. I don't care how deep the topic is or how heavy. Sometimes that's WHY I'm not reblogging it, because I don't want that shit on my blog. The other 10% of the time, I'll go to most recent reblog that Doesn't have the guilty shit on it, and then reblog that.

16. Do you like tag games?

It sounds narcissistic, but I like being tagged in them and doing them. I just Really Really Really hate tagging anyone else.

AU Thursday: Tell Me Where To Find Shelter -- Layers of Victor

Saw this meme going around the #fallout4 tag a while back (I believe I specifically ganked it from @radbeetle), and thought it might be fun to do for my Sole Survivor!Victor. And my Malkavian!Alice, but let’s start with SS!Victor. XD

LAYER ONE: THE OUTSIDE

- Name: Victor Fitzwilliam Van Dort

- Eye Color: Very dark brown – it can be very hard to tell the difference between pupil and iris!

- Hair Style/Color: Black, generally combed back with two "tufts" of bangs falling over what little forehead he has

- Height: Six feet three inches (and thin as a rail)

- Clothing style: Relatively formal pre-War – he grew up in a household that impressed upon him that you wore ties and suits whenever you were in public, and often even in private. Post-War, he spends a lot of time switching between a pair of upgraded Vault suits from Vault 111 while looking for clothes that actually fit his lanky frame. He's a lot more casual in his style once he does – though he still likes a good sweater vest, and he keeps a few suits if he needs to look fancy.

- Best physical feature: Victor would personally say his hands – he's a pianist and a tinkerer, and he appreciates his long reach over a keyboard, along with his ability to finely handle delicate parts when upgrading or repairing things!

LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE

- Fears: Total darkness (as in you can't see ANYTHING – as long as there's some sort of light source, he can manage); blindness (related to previous); small enclosed spaces (being locked in a cryonic pod will do that to a guy); losing those he cares about again (he – has a lot of trauma from seeing Victoria shot, Shaun kidnapped, then trying to open Emily's pod after he finally got out, only to see her corpse half-rotted inside)

- Guilty pleasure: Pre-War, it would have been comics – he was always a little embarrassed about how much he continued to like the adventures of Grognak and the Unstoppables and whatnot after his teenage years (not helped by his mother sneering at the stories). Post-War, though, he ditches the "guilty" part – especially after meeting Kent Connolly and getting to play Silver Shroud. XD I'm not sure he has one post-War – he occasionally feels weird about how much he enjoys modifying his weapons and armor? But that's quite practical as well as pleasurable, so. . .

- Biggest pet peeve: Being rapidly promoted in organizations that he's only just joined (Preston, you're easily one of his best friends, but SERIOUSLY, dude, GENERAL?)

- Ambitions for the future: To continue keeping his little portion of the Commonwealth safe, and start training up someone with some more Charisma to be the General of the Minutemen once he retires (he's still not sure why people follow him when he's so socially awkward)

LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS

- First thoughts waking up: Depends on what wakes him up. If he's waking up on his own, it's generally a variation on "Breakfast? Where breakfast?" If someone else wakes him up, it's generally "Why are you shaking/licking me, I don't wanna get up yet." And if it's combat nearby, it's generally "SHIT WHERE'S MY GUN oh wait are they shooting at me still should find gun."

- What they think about most: All his various responsibilities – finding his son, acting as General of the Minutemen, working with the Railroad, helping the people on the settlements, wondering what the hell is going to happen between him and the Brotherhood of Steel, or him and the Institute. . .it doesn't do much for his anxiety, is what I'm saying.

- What they think about before bed: If he's not exhausted enough just to collapse onto the nearest sleeping surface, then probably what I mentioned above. He's probably up late trying to plan routes to help settlements that have called for assistance and follow leads on the Institute and whatnot.

- What they think their best quality is: Victor would consider it his willingness to be helpful whenever possible. He generally enjoys helping people, and it makes him feel better in general to help improve the Commonwealth in some small way. (Not to mention, him helping out personally with the problems of a lot of the families/communities in the Commonwealth has earned him a lot of friends for his Minutemen! A General so hands-on seems to impress people.)

LAYER FOUR: WHAT’S BETTER?

- Single or group dates: . . .this gets a little harder to answer when he was in a polyamorous relationship pre-War, you know. XD But yeah, Victor prefers one-on-one, or one-on-two in the case of Victoria and Emily. A group date puts the pressure on him to perform like the perfect boyfriend/husband, and he doesn't need the extra stress. Maybe he'd be okay with a double date if it was with some very close friends.

- To be loved or respected: Victor would rather be loved, or at least liked – though part of that is low self-esteem telling him people aren't going to respect him. (Or like him, for that matter.) It's what informs his desire to help people, at least in part.

- Beauty or brains: While Victor isn't immune to a nice face or body, he really likes having someone he can talk to about stuff. Sharing interests is fun, and he appreciates someone who will at least try to keep up with his nattering on about butterflies and robots and whatnot.

- Dogs or cats: Dogs! Victor gets along decently with cats, but he is first and foremost a dog person. He had a dog named Scraps when he was a child, and he, Victoria, and Emily were making plans to adopt one before the bombs fell. Meeting Dogmeat at the Red Rocket really helped pull him out of his post-War "almost everything I knew is gone and I'm a stranger in my own state" funk.

LAYER FIVE: DO THEY?

- Lie: Yup. Victor will tell the usual social "white lies" (even if he's not very good at them), and he's done bigger lies in the past – like not telling his parents that Emily was more than their "roommate." (Of course, that was done not to have a family blowout about him and his wife having a girlfriend.)

- Believe in themselves: Not usually – as stated, Victor has pretty low self-esteem, thanks mostly to growing up with a mother who was criticizing him and everything he was when she wasn't absent doing social climbing stuff. It's hard for him to think of himself as being someone who has worth, sadly. He gets better when he starts seeing more results of his actions in helping the Minutemen and the Railroad, and realizes he's genuinely making a difference for people.

- Believe in love: Yes – his relationship with Victoria and Emily was one of the high points of his pre-War life. He was utterly heartbroken when Victoria was shot, and Emily later died due to the life support to the other pods being cut off. But then later he meets Alice, and. . .well, it takes some time, but he manages to come around to loving and being loved again.

- Want someone: Pre-War, not really – he was in a happy threesome and wasn't currently looking to expand. Post-War, most of his life precludes wanting anyone – though he does develop a bit of a crush on Piper as time goes on. And then, of course, he meets Alice, and eventually ends up wanting her. . . (Yes, in-game I intend for him to romance Piper – and there's a chance in the AU he, Piper, and Alice would end up in a poly situation. We'll see where this goes!)

LAYER SIX: EVER?

- Been on stage: Pre-War, never officially – Nell had him play piano at some of her parties (which was always stressful, as he felt all her guests were either judging him or just hated him for being related to her), but that was as far as performing got. He of course had the speech he was asked to do that he was practicing the day the bombs dropped, but – well, the bombs dropped. Post-War – he probably will have to give some inspirational speeches to his Minutemen troops, which he will somehow get through and then go have a little quiet panic attack somewhere.

- Done chems/drugs: . . .I have occasionally toyed with the headcanon that Victor was unwillingly dosed with Psycho, or a drug like it, back in his Army days and has been haunted by the experience ever since. But other than that, not the hard stuff – Victor doesn't even smoke (he tried once – after nearly coughing up a lung, he refused to ever try again) and he tends not to drink (he's tried that too, and discovered he's an embarrassingly chatty drunk, so he doesn't typically indulge). He will, of course, take Rad-X and Rad-Away, because those are freaking necessary to survive in parts of the Wasteland.

- Changed who you were to fit in: Occasionally attempted, never stuck. He's not good at keeping up a facade. One of his most embarrassing memories is trying to ask a girl to dance at a party his mother dragged him to when he was about 16, imitating the more popular "jock"-kinda guys, and getting laughed at so much he retreated to the buffet for the rest of the night.

LAYER SEVEN: FAVORITES

- Favorite color: Blue

- Favorite animal: Dogs, butterflies

- Favorite movie: Victor will confess to a love for schlocky monster movies, so he was quite enamored of Night of the Fish Men's Revenge when it came out (he's quite excited when he sees it in the projector in Eden Meadows Cinema, and quite sad that he can only get it to play the title screen). He also enjoyed Another Day In the Monster Factory for much the same reasons.

- Favorite game: With his affinity for comic books and a secret love of roleplaying (which becomes not-so-secret once he starts Silver Shrouding), Grognak & The Ruby Ruins quite appeals to him. He likes that it has some replay value too, with changing up your party and whatnot. The action of Pipfall appeals to him too, though that time limit can be stressful!

LAYER EIGHT: AGE

- DOB: June 9th, 2050 (he was 27 and a few months when the bombs dropped)

- Day of their next birthday, they will be: His next birthday according to the game would be June 9th, 2088 – he'd be 238 in terms of time passed, 28 in terms of biology

- Age they lost their virginity: Twenty – Victor had been yanked by the Army into Canada to help with the Sino-American war shortly after graduating high school, but got some leave around his twentieth birthday to go home. He immediately caught back up with his high school sweethearts, Victoria and Emily, and ended up doing the deed with Victoria. They managed to keep it a secret from their conservative parents, fortunately.

- Does age matter: In general? Victor is willing to listen to advice from those older than he is, certainly – though he tends to take it with a grain of salt depending on their obvious biases. In a relationship? Unless one of the parties is a minor, Victor won't get involved, though bigger gaps will probably make him wonder what exactly they see in each other. (He allows this is hypocritical of him to a degree, as Alice is much older than him even taking into account the freezing – but on the flip side, she was Embraced at 20, he was frozen at 27. . .)

LAYER NINE: IN A BOY OR GIRL

- Best personality: Victor likes people who are sweet and kind, but have a tougher or sassier side to them as well. Victoria leaned mostly toward the "sweet" side, but was also pretty determined when it came to getting what she wanted from him; Emily was cheerful and enthusiastic, but if you angered her – wooo boy; Alice of course is snark incarnate, but is kind to people and generally likes helping others. Even Piper is one of the kinder companions, but doesn't shy away from sarcastic comments.

- Best eye color: Well, Victoria and Emily both had blue eyes (of differing shades), and Alice's green eyes were one of the first things that struck Victor about her, sooo. . .blue or green!

- Best hair color: I'm not sure Victor has a preference here – Victoria was a super-light brown, almost gray; Emily was a blonde; Alice has dark hair that looks black or brown depending on the light/how well cared for it is (and she says her hair was almost red when she was a kid!); Piper has dark brown/black hair. I guess pre-War he went for lighter; post-War he goes for darker?

- Best thing to do with a partner: Victor likes finding some sort of creative interest they can share, or at least do at the same time. He would sit in the living room and draw while Victoria embroidered in the afternoons; and he and Emily both played piano, so they'd often have little duets. With Alice, he probably ends up illustrating some of the stories she tells – maybe eventually they throw together a book of sorts, with Piper's help!

LAYER TEN: FINISH THE SENTENCE

- I love: Alice! And the rest of my friends too, of course.

- I feel: completely out of my depth, most of the time.

- I hide: how anxious all of this makes me – not sure how well I'm succeeding, but. . .

- I miss: the life I had before, in Sanctuary.

- I wish: that Victoria and Emily hadn't – that t-they were still here to meet the friends I've made.

Feeding Cycles

Summary

Most plants in the kingdom of Gufalla feed off of human laughter as their primary source of sustenance. Roman made it so that instead of converting light into food, they convert the soundwaves produced through laughter instead. There is also magic involved, so the process isn’t completely scientific. All plants do need water to survive in some way still, because Roman modeled them after real world plants.

What is a Feeding Cycle?

A feeding cycle or feeding time is the calculated amount of laughter that a plant needs to convert over certain periods of time in order to live a long healthy life. It is similar to a diet. Every species of plant has a different ideal feeding cycle, but even those of the same species will vary. Not every plant is exactly the same. The statistic is just a general number that could produce positive results for the plant.

A plant feeds off laughter?

A plant does feed off of human laughter, yes. So, a plant technically could go to a comedy show and be completely full within a matter of minutes. However, the liklihood of a plant actually attending a comedy show by itself is 0, because most of them are like actual plants and can’t move without the help of an outside force. Also, because plants are unable to speak or tell jokes to random humans that may happen to come across them out in the wild, tickling is just the easiest option.

So, it can be any type of laughter?

It could, but the amount of energy the plant retains determines on the type of laughter. Logan and Roman conducted a study together to see what types of laughter give the best energy. If a human just randomly laughs at a joke in the vicinity of a tickle plant, the laughter retained will be 25% than if the person made the same laugh, but it was being tickled by the plant. A plant could even retain fake laughs, but at an even lower pecentage at 15%. So yes, quality and intention do play a massive part into the calculations determined by the feeding cycles. Also, some plants are picky about their laughter and retain more when one person giggles as opposed to a different person. A plant could also like soft giggles more than big belly laughter. As I said before, no plant is the same.

Do Plants know when to stop?

Yes. Roman made sure that none of the plants could go too far when tickling their victim...or at least on purpose. Some plants, like the Feather Fly Trap, get too excited and have a hard time stopping once they get going, much like a dog licking their owner’s face for seconds on end. There is also another instance where a plant may contract a disease, making the plant almost in a zombie trance state where they could tickle forever, regardless if they are full or went too far.

Do plants give breaks during feeding cycles?

Yes! Calculated feeding times do add in breaks for the ticklee or caretaker’s sake. It also depends on the plant’s bond with the person they are tickling. A plant would be much more aware of their favorite person’s state of being than say a random stranger.

How do you know when a plant is full?

The colors of the flowers, leaves, vines, etc. glow bright. The more vivid the colors, the more full the plant is. If a plant begins to flicker between different shades of it’s colors then it is either extremely hungry or starving. This is why the species of plants that do not feed on laughter are usually quite dark in contrast.

Can a Tickle plant get too full?

Yes. It is possible. It happens to the tickle plants who can’t control themselves quite easily when they are tickling their victims. (Also baby tickle plants as they are figuring out how much they can take in.) The repercussions are similar to if someone overindulged in a gigantic meal. The plant will be sluggish, have a delayed reaction time, and an extremely large dose of laughter might throw off their regular feeding cycles.

What happens when a tickle plant is starving?

The first thing I want to say is a tickle plant cannot die if they do not convert laughter for over a long period of time. Roman made sure of that. Instead, the tickle plant will go into a dormant mode. In this mode, they will begin to act like a basic plant, taking in water and sunlight. There are many plants in the Kingdom of Gufalla that act like this because they are so deep in the woods or extremely far from civilization that no one ever visits.

Can a tickle plant recover from their dormant mode?

Yup! Someone just needs to laugh in their vicinity! The laughter should allow it to wake up and smell the bacon, metaphorically! XD Then it will restrain the person gently and get the laughter it needs.

Some tickle plants don’t feed on laughter?

Yes. They are very rare species though and are usually found in dark places like caves, undergrowths, or places that never touch sunlight. All plants that fall into the lee alignment, also fall into this category.

What are the plants’ sources of energy then?

Yeah, the sides and figments are the main characters, but there is over 500,000 random npcs Roman created to live in the kingdom of Gufalla. Their purpose is to exist and also feed the plants and animals with their laughter.

What makes a plant able to feed off of laughter?

It’s a combination of science and tickle magic. Roman wanted there to be enough mystery in the world so that Logan and Virgil could find interest in it to, and not just Patton. 

Is laughter the life force of a plant?

Hmmm...not quite. The tickle plants that do not need laughter to survive dissproved that hypothesis. Plants can’t get healed by laughter anymore than humans could get healed by food. This isn’t Super Smash Bros. or Kirby, unfortunately.

If some plants don’t need laughter, then why do they tickle?

All plants have tickle magic, thus all plants engage in some form of tickling. Tickle plants that feed off only water with the ler alignment, like Jack, only tickle because they want to, or think a human is being too cute and needs a tickle. They see tickling as a more recreational past time than something that needs to be done to survive. Also, not all plants that don’t need laughter to survive are lers. There are extremely ticklish lee plants that hide in the dark away from the wiggling fingers of humans. 

So, not all plants have feeding cycles?

Correct. What all plants do have, however, is how often the soil around them should be watered. Always water your plants at specific times of the day so you don’t forget. And if you are forgetful, set up an auto watering system, so that all you have to do is fill it up every once and awhile.

What are you currently reading? The Dark Tower - the last book in the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King

How many books have you read this year? Six so far? That kind of makes me sad x.x I just don't have as much time to read as I used to.

How have your reading tastes changed from when you were a child? Not much, honestly, I just read more widely than I used to.

Physical book or e-book? I like and read both. I personally prefer the textile sensation of physical books, but you can't beat being able to take 100 books with you on vacation for the low low weight of one e-reader.

Where do you love to read? Anywhere I can curl up with a blanket and a pillow and possibly a cup of tea. Though I do avoid reading in bed these days because it makes for bad sleep hygiene and being an insomniac means doing every little tiny thing you can to get a good night of sleep.

What is your ideal reading atmosphere? Background noise or silent? Alone or with others? My ideal is quiet - not necessarily silence - and alone. But I don't mind reading with others if they aren't interrupting me. And I've learned to tune out the background noise when I have to XD

Are you a writer? Yup!

What was your very first baby book? Oh boy... maybe it was The Pokey Little Puppy? The first one I remember really fondly was "I'll Love You Forever" (*sobs*)

What was the first book you read on your own? Not sure. The one I remember most vividly, though was Venus Among the Fishes

What has been the longest gap between books? I usually start reading a new book the day after I finish the last one, if not the same day. It's how long it takes me to read a book XD that's the question. The Fellowship of the Ring took me about six months because it was hard to get into. That's probably the longest. Although at the rate I'm getting through the Dark Tower, there's going to be a new contender x.x

What are your favourite genres? Oh gosh, Fantasy and Science-Fiction are the big ones. I have a soft spot for a really good romance (Like The Time Traveler's Wife). I also dabble in historical fiction and most of the sub genres of everything already mentioned. If it catches my fancy and keeps it, I'll read it.

What books make you happy? I like books that absorb me into the world, make me care about the characters and tell me a good story. Even if the ending isn't happy, as long as I got a good story, I'm satisfied.

What books have made you uncomfortable? Why? Uh.. I can't remember any books that made me specifically uncomfortable. Honestly, sometimes the point of books is to make you uncomfortable with something. But there was some creepy part at the beginning of the Dark Tower that just felt totally unnecessary... and inappropriate to discuss x.x

Can you read anywhere? Moving vehicle? Rollercoaster? Sadly, no. I did train myself to read on the subway while I was living in Toronto and that translated to the train while I was in England. But generally, I can't move while in motion. Airplanes are so/so, I can sometimes manage small chunks. But in the car, never!

How do you bookmark books? With bookmarks - boring, I know. But I love me a good bookmark. I have a small stash.

Policy on book-lending? You can borrow it as long as you return it in a reasonable amount of time and in relatively the same condition you took it away in. Otherwise you replace it.

Do people know you’re a bookworm? Heck yeah XD Kinda hard not to.

How well do you take care of your books? VERY. As in, I have developed a method of reading that minimizes the amount of creases that form in the book spine while I'm reading it. And I never store them in a way that might bend or warp the covers or spines.

Can you read in other languages? Sadly, no.

What is a total book turn-off for you? Women who fall in love with men who abuse them. Also women who fall in love with abusive men because they need to be 'saved' and their magic love is the only way to do it. I'm SO done with that crap.

What is an essential element of a good book? Good characters; they are the foundation from which all good stories spring.

Genres you rarely read? Horror and mystery. In the case of horror, I just can't do it. I'm too chicken. In the case of mystery, I get too micro-managey on the details and always end up missing stuff anyway, so I don't really enjoy them. I'm not huge on thrillers either, but am not opposed to giving them a fair shake.

Do you read non-fiction? Yup! Most recently The Art of War :3

Do you read reviews on a book before you read it? Sometimes. It depends on how well I know the author and where I'm learning about the book. If it's someone new to me and none of my friends have read the book, I like to get some sense of what I might be in for before I buy something.

Do you judge a book by the cover? Yes and no. I judge by the back over - IE the description of the book, and the front insert if there is one. Pretty covers are nice, and sometimes draw me to books I'd otherwise pass over. But I don't pass over books specifically because of their covers either. If it sounds like a good story, I'll read it.

Do you read cover to cover or sometimes skim parts? Almost always cover to cover. If I'm skimming the book it's bad and I probably won't bother finishing it.

Do you always finish a book, even if it is dull? I used to. But then I realized life is too short for that kind of crap. So now I either discard a book if it loses me or skim it to see if it gets interesting again.

How do you organise your books? Oh boy XD In order of favorite authors / series. I mean, basically no one can figure out where the books go except me. Not even my husband has figured out my system XD

Dragon Age Questions

I was tagged by the wonderful @dirthara-mama ! 

01) Favourite game of the series?

So, as @wardsarefunctioning, I am terrible at answering “favourite” questions. XD In all honesty, I really don’t have a favourite though. I think all 3 games have different strengths and weaknesses, but I enjoy playing them all. 

02) How did you discover Dragon Age?

My close friend had been telling me about it for awhile, and then while I was staying over at her house after a party she had me play a bit of DAO on her console. Now, something you have to understand: I am pretty shit at playing on consoles. I enjoy it, but I’m terrible at it. I adored the game either way. As soon as I got home I bought it for my PC.

03) How many times you’ve played the games?

I’ve played DAO about 7 times (not including the 100+ hours I LOST), DA2 4 times in full and have a couple partial runs, and DAI 6 full runes and several partial as well. . . 

04) Favourite race to play as?

I’ve already mentioned my favourite issue y’all. I do have a huge soft spot for elves. . . but I seriously love all my OC children. 

05) Favourite class?

I lean towards rogue or mage usually, but it depends on my mood! Sometimes you just really want to swing a giant two-handed weapon, you know? 

06) Do you play through the games differently or do you make the same decisions each time?

Some things I’ve done differently, but other things I’ve done very similarly each time. There are certain choices I always make, and in general I can’t do true “jerk” runs. .  .because I start feeling horrible 5 minutes in. XD That’s not to say that I never say any of the disagreeable options. . . just not often, and usually nothing really mean? I do romance different characters though, and there are choices and options that change depending on who I’m playing. I do try and stick to a bit of character-driven rp? Which is interesting, because sometimes even if I arrive at the “same” choice for two characters, their reasoning would be worlds apart? Or alternatively sometimes they’ll have similar feelings on an issue, but their “solutions” differ. 

07) Go-to adventuring group?

I try to change it up pretty regularly? I’m not sure if I have a consistent group.

08) Which of your characters did you put the most thought into?

I have something like 20 DA OCs (I have a problem. I know.). . . .but there are some that are more developed than others for sure. I’d say that the ones that I know the best in my head are: Nehnara Surana, Kyria Cousland, Beatrix Tabris, Elraen Mahariel, Evangeline Hawke, Mirabel Hawke, Svetlana Cadash, Adhlea Lavellan, Revasulahn Lavellan, Lilith Trevelyan, Esther Trevlyan, and Innanis Adaar. 

09) Favourite romance?

hmmm. . . . so this is difficult because I could take this as “the one that makes me the happiest” or “the one that I find most intriguing”. . .which are somewhat different. In DAO I really loved both Leliana and Zevran’s romances. I loved Fenris, Merrill, and Isabela in DA2. My favs in DAI were Solas and Josie. Merrill is hands down my absolute favorite romanceable character; I absolutely adore her. However. . .the Solas romance is probably the one that’s taken up the most of my thoughts/ fan discussion. Probably because it’s such a frustrating romance. XD (My former girlfriend said it was because I have a voice kink, like intelligence, and am emotionally masochistic. . . which I won’t comment on. Instead I’ll think of Merrill and happy things.)  

10) Have you read any of the comics/books?

I’ve read some of them, but I’ve been horrible about order! 

11) If you read them, which was your favourite book?

Oof. . .  .there’s a lot of things in Masked Empire that I find hugely frustrating. . . but it also has Felassan. I adore Felassan. I wish I could have had more Felassan in my life. So. There is that.

12) Favourite DLCs?

Oof. . . .hmmm, I really enjoyed Return to Ostagar? Is that weird? And the one with the castle in DAO. I don’t remember the name right now. I have lots of feelings about Trespasser of course, and Jaws of Hakkon is another one I really liked.

13) Things that annoy you.

It’s hard for me to separate “things that annoy me and could be different” and “things that annoy me but are limitations of the medium”? Like. . . I always want more choices, but they really can only offer a limited number of possibilities in a video game? Specifically speaking about dialogue choices: I wish that there were more options to disagree with characters without being a complete asshole to them? There are plenty of times were you can, but that’s what has stuck out the most to me when I’m like “I really want to say something else here” is usually when I’m being forced between “agree” or “disagree in the nastiest way possible” (and “no comment”). Those times are probably less than I’m thinking but they always stick out to me? 

There are things within the lore that are odd to me, and I probably choice to ignore or skate around. 

14) Orlais or Ferelden?

FERELDEN (for the dogs if nothing else) 

15) Templars or mages?

Mages (and Delrin Barris. He can stay.)

16) If you have multiple characters, are they in different/parallel universes or in the same one?

They are mostly in the same universe. . . and mostly still alive. Or that’s at least true for my wardens and my inquisitors. I have a “canon” setup for DAO more or less (Nehnara Surana is my main HoF, but Beatrix Tabris, Syndis Brosca, and Elraen Mahariel all are alive and important to varying degrees. Kyria Coulsand died during the sacking of Highever :( . . .and Alyn Amell is . . .probably alive and in the Tower?). I’m not decided on my “canon” Hawke. 

I’m also not decided on my “canon” inquisitor, but I know that a lot of them are all around. My Trevelyan family is very, very large. . . 

I also have some non-player character OCs that I don’t talk about as much but know things about? 

17) What did you name your pets? (mabari, summoned animals, mounts, etc)

Uuuuhh. . . I have too many. XD The first time I played DAO, I named the mabari Huan, because I’m a huge nerd. 

Nehnara named her mabari after her late father, and Beatrix named hers Blossom. 

18) Have you installed any mods?

I did for DAI with a lot of help from @thema-sal-shiral, but it was difficult as all hell for me and I’m scared to mess with it at all. Ever again. 

19) Did your Warden want to become a Grey Warden?

Nehnara greatly preferred it to the alternative. 

20) Hawke’s personality?

Mirabel- Purple-ish; Evangeline - Blue-ish ; Kelda - a hot mess ; Leah - Red/Purple

21) Did you make matching armor for your companions in Inquisition?

No?

22) If your character(s) could go back in time to change one thing, what would they change?

Uhhhh. . . .someone asked something similar for Nehnara Surana recently and here was my issue for answering for her: she’s really, really, super suspicious about this as an offer. There are things she want to change in the depths of her heart, but who is offering? Why? What do they get out of it? Are there consequences? There are always consequences or a price of some sort. . . 

Lilith Trevelyan. . . would really like to find a way to save her two best friends from her days as an apprentice. 

23) Do you have any headcanons about your character(s) that go against canon?

Yup! Look above to see my weird warden mess. I also tend to ignore certain parts of lore so. . . .

24) Are any of your character(s) based on someone?

A lot of my characters are based on parts of different people I know or have seen in real life, but not in full? 

25) Who did you leave in the Fade?

I haven’t always left the same person. .  .but it is usually Stroud. DX I’m sorry. 

26) Favourite mount?

. . . .I have the perverse urge to say Bog Unicorn. Because I can.

Meme time again!

I was tagged by the always lovely @sparkly-things, and have dragged my feet on doing it for over a week… better late than never, right? XD  

1. Name? – You can call me Goodyear on here ;)

2. Age? – 29 now, though I was still 28 when I was tagged. Does that mean I’m some indeterminate quantum fluctuating age?

3. Height? – Just shy of 6’ (I’m 182 cm for you metric folks).

4. Sign? – I’m a staunch disbeliever in this sort of thing, but Aries, if that means anything to you. And Snake for the Chinese zodiac, just to be complete, I suppose.

5. Religious? – Big ol’ Atheist here. Swear me in on The Origin of Species, please.  

6. Tea or Coffee? – Oh, definitely tea. All kinds of tea. Black, green, white, oolong, puerh, rooibos, herbal. Every once in a while I’ll have a coffee, usually in some dessert-like form, but it’s not really my thing.

7. Music? – Gonna be cliché with Liz and say everything, but I’ll even include country, rap, and death metal. I’ll listen to just about anything, though my favourites that I return to again and again are jazz (the kind you can dance to, please), post-rock/shoegaze, other atmospheric genres without much in the way of lyrics, and whatever pop/indie songs I’m currently digging, which is always changing.  

8. Favourite Movie? – I’m also the kind of person who forgets this the minute I get asked, or can’t decide. I’m not much of a movie person, anyway. Anything Studio Ghibli is good in my books. If I have to choose individual films, let’s go with two wildly different ones.  Amélie and Kung Pow! Enter the Fist. My childhood favourite, hands down, was The Lion King.

9. Employed? – Yup, but looking for work in my field, because I don’t want to be selling dresses forever.

10. Dream job?  – I really feel you on this one, Liz. I’m pretty lost right now in terms of what I want to do, and feel like I’ve fucked up royally and am not really sure where to go from here. If I could be really unrealistic, I’d love to be an independently wealthy gentlewoman scientist/Victorian-era adventurer. But if we’re talking real-world, actual possible jobs in this day, age, and that I might be able to have one day, I’d say working as a curator at a botanic garden. Sadly, positions like that are hard to come by.

11. Favourite game? – Like with movies, I find it hard to remember/choose. Recently, Ghost Trick was a fucking phenomenal game that I really loved. I like the Final Fantasy games. Really, most old school RPGs are fun times for me. I can’t play anything first-person, or with really shaky cameras because I get motion sick easily. I have so much nostalgic love for game series on the PlayStation and Playstation II, as well, like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Sly Cooper, that I played during my formative years. Ditto for Gameboy Colour games like Pokemon Blue, and the various Legend of Zelda games from that time period. 

12. Favourite drink? – Alcoholic? A good single malt scotch whisky, or a gin and tonic. Non-alcoholic is probably covered by the tea or coffee answer!

13. Tattoos? – One. It’s a small one, behind my ear. I’ll give you three guesses ;)

14. Defining Moment? – Apparently @sparkly-things and I are on the same page about a lot of these answers! Probably the biggest defining moment of my adult life—for better or worse—was when, after two medical leaves and a lot of tough decisions, I finally chose to leave my PhD program. I feel very lucky to have had the support of my supervisor, lab mates, family, and partner, which allowed me to publish and turn my research work into a MSc thesis instead, so at least I didn’t leave empty-handed. I know it was the right decision, and I wouldn’t change it even if I could go back, but it’s definitely been (and still continues to be) a struggle to not see myself as a failure. It’s still having reverberations in my life to this day. I feel happier and healthier now, but less fulfilled in some ways; unmoored and not sure of what I should be doing without the purpose that academia gave me. Ugh, I’m just going to stop there before I get any more whiny.

15. Name one dessert you can’t do without – All of them? I have such a sweet tooth—any day that I can have double dessert is a good day, and I love to bake! I think, though, that if I had to choose one, it would have to be really good homemade chocolate chip cookies. There’s just something so comforting about them that simply can’t be beat. 

16. Name one thing you can’t do without – Something to read. Doesn’t matter if it’s an article, a good book, a short story, poetry, an essay, fanfic, or a text-based RP, I’ve always loved reading. If I’m in a place personally where I can’t read, I’m in a very bad place indeed.

17. Name one person you can’t be without – I’m going to be that disgusting half of a codependent couple who says my partner. He’s my biggest support, my cheerleader, my friend, and I can’t really imagine life without him at this point. I mean, I can, but I can’t imagine being nearly as happy. I’m not even going to mince words about it: I probably wouldn’t be here to write this if it weren’t for him.

18. Name one fictional character you love – Ugh, don’t make me choose! Right at this moment, probably due to the latest page update, and the fic I’m currently writing, and the fic I’m currently reading, I’m going to say Ethos from Starfighter. He’s so precious. #Protect Ethos 2k18

19. Name one thing you want to do – Find something that drives me again, in my professional life. It’s been too long since I felt passion about what I spend my time doing while (barely) earning a living. I don’t need a lot of money, but I would love to love what I do again. I miss that something terrible.

1) How many works in progress do you currently have? I have an embarrassing number of WIPs. But the major ones are: Currently revising Fireborn and writing its sequel. I’ve finished revising a prequel to Fireborn about the Eternals. Silm/Tolkien wise, there’s Fëanor in the Halls of Mandos, Evil Valar AU, Finarfin’s unsent letters to his children, and a short "what if” fic of Maedhros and Frodo meeting.

2) Do you/would you write fanfiction? I do, I’m Nixie_Genesis on AO3. I’m slightly more focused on my original fic these days. 

3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks? I prefer paper books because looking at screens can kind of cause migraines sometimes. But I do have a collection of ebooks which come in handy when I find myself waiting somewhere.

4) When did you start writing? When I was in fourth grade my mom bought me a typewriter. I started making up my own languages for some fantasy world ii had in my head. I’ve pretty much written ever since. I started seriously putting my stories together in high school. Fireborn (the called The Vericlen) was born my junior year. 

5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with? Yup! @acommonanomaly is my trusted Beta and brainstormer. I have another friend who is also a writer but she’s not on Tumblr. I would pretty much share my writing with whoever I trusted and knew well. 

6) Where is your favorite place to write? I like writing at my desk, though I have both Word and Google Docs on my phone and tablet. It’s hard to write on those XD. 

7) Favorite childhood book? The Princess Bride. I remember it was the first book I read where I thought, “I wish these characters were real so they could be my friends!” Ha. I was a lonely, nerdy child XD.

8) Writing for fun or publication? Publication has been my dream with Fireborn. But I also enjoy writing for fun.

9) Pen and paper or computer? Initial ideas are usually scribbled in a notebook. The problem with this is sometimes I forget which notebook I wrote the notes in haha. I tend to use pen and paper for scene outlines and then write the actual story on the computer. 

10) Have you ever taken any writing classes? In college I took creative writing classes. They were fun!

11) What inspires you to write? Music for sure. I have playlists dedicated to the fics and characters I write. Art sometimes inspires me too, or a picture of a landscape.

Shorter or taller: Depends what we’re talking about. In terms of who I would date, I usually prefer people who are my height or a little bit taller, though

Older or younger: I prefer around my age. My limit is either 2 years younger or 3 years older, no more and no less.

Romantic or spontaneous: Romantic. I date to marry, and I think things through before making big decisions. I’ve made mistakes, sure, but generally I like to take things slow and not rush.

1. What kind of food can’t you stand?: FISH, especially Fried Tilapia. I dunno. I loved fish as a kid, but now just the smell of it makes my stomach churn. Oh, and broccoli. GDI the first time I tasted it was traumatic :’D

10. What kind of student are/were you?: When I was in high school, I was the overrated student. And it sucked because teachers placed high expectations against my will when in fact I am the lazy student who relies on stock knowledge to get through school life :v

12. Name your most irrational fear/aversion: I used to run away at the speed of light at the sight of anything worm-like. >___<. But let me tell you a story: when I was a kid, Mom gave me a quarter kilo of grapes. I finished it in one sitting, but I got drunk so I hit my head on the door knob when I tried to stand up. I wonder what kind of drunk I am now? AT PARTIES? NOOO... I just stay at corners and try to avoid having to party. It’s not the party that’s bad, it’s the socializing. :’D

15. Do you fall in love easily? Or does it usually take a long time for you to trust someone?: I fall in love with 2d men easily. And yes, it takes quite some time for me to trust someone nowadays, cuz I learned my lesson the hard way.

What’s something you thought was cool as a kid/adolescent, but now cringe at yourself for?:  I was low-key emo back then but it only manifested in my music preference because I was keeping up a good school image. Now when I look back at that “shiny and brilliant student” facade I wanted to smack my younger self in the head (btw, my music preference never changed). 

28. What’s a trait you consider to be very admirable?: Bravery. It can take you far if you have it. I admire brave people.

29. Is there a particular kind of item people always tend to give you as gifts? (For instance, people always get you things with ducks on them because you like ducks, etc.): I don’t receive gifts anymore (too bad, will you give me a gift? XD) but my godmother often gave me dresses and clothes, and blue items cuz she knew blue was my favorite :3

30. Do you speak multiple languages? Which ones?: I speak Filipino, English and not that fluent at Japanese (and currently taking a crash course at Bahasa Indonesia)

31. Would you rather live in the big city or the countryside?: I’d choose countryside in a heartbeat!

I’d love to experience that doki-doki when I see Cloud in action <3 and my nightly walks back at the province.
