I work at an organisation that offers venue hire, and although we don’t cater, we do offer teas and coffees in dainty little vintage teacups. For a while, we’d bring in caterers for venue hires who supplied a bunch of dubiously biodegradable plates and cutlery and paper cups - we’d put all these out next to the pretty little cups and saucers, and, to a man, every male attendee would choose the paper cups.
(We also have a set of chunky and faintly institutional cups and saucers, which don’t seem to have triggered the same reaction, despite the floral pattern)
We did eventually stop the caterers supplying paper cups - as far as I can tell the need for caffeine outweighs masculine concerns about using dainty little teacups.
Men, boys, and eggs of my acquaintance, I cannot stress this enough:
Nobody worth being with will ever judge you based on your deli sandwich choices.
Sincerely, a dude who had to watch like two dozen men pretend to find vegetarian sandwiches unthinkable in order to maintain a sense of masculinity today.
#toxic masculinity#it’s a women’s organisation#so it did crack us all up when we noticed#also when we cater our own events it’s strictly vege/vegan#but any man who’s brave enough to attend probably isn’t phased by the hummus
