The demise of Au Inflorence

Inflorence, was created 25 September 2023. Originally it was called Deflowered(Hanafell), the name was changed due to what it meant.

The right most was the first concept art for it, the middle one was when it remade, then leftmost was the current.

Inflorence was inspired by aus like underfell, flowerfell, underswap. I really liked swap aus, due to Chara being my favorite character. I wanted a world where gets to have a life.

Inflorence was a Chasriel au, I liked what I like. I really loved both Chara and Asriel in original their tragedy was something alot amazing. Asriels obsession with chara. Charas martyr behavior. But these ship posed the downfall of my au.

Inforence, specifically deflowered was supposed to be a undefell au take, following the canon one, where Chara teaches asriel, all mosnters sometimes love and kindness is enough. But Asgore poisons chara, with flower curse. Where all of charas body would be covered with golden flowers till they die. Later asriel would absorb charas soul to cross barreir but they return. Chara dies Asriel surives and banishes his dad to ruins. While, he declaires war on humanity. Charas reincarnation Frisk, comes to knock senses in their king boyfriend. Both survive........ But welp that was all scrapped as another au was taking my brain

These nameless swap au. Mostly I really likes these au, which resulted in mashing these up with deflowered which created Inflorence. The designs in these are canon for inforenece except for asriel, Chara. yes deltarune was also here alot specifically.

As you might have guessed Frisk took Asriels place here, while Noelle took Charas. Noelle was supposed to be the narrator of these au, Frisk the first human was at first gonna be temmie, but later became a voice which you can only hear through echo flowers and mirrors.

As you also guessed Frisk and charas dead lead to events here, many people may have noticed Flowers on Chara and frisk.

Well These flowers are like flowerfell they grow on humans body killing them. But the reason is different, Humans souls here were quite fragile while monsters had stronger souls. Monsters ability to love was overwheming to humans soul as they cant handle monsters compasion resulting in the determination and love given by monsters to humans to pour out. In the flowers, these flowers were the result of humans loving monsters, romantic, platonic, family all type. All humans here died due to loving too much.

They loved too much, the more you love the more flowers you get till killing you. Despite that these humans never tried to harm others and died sacrificing their souls to free monsters.

There were some desgin changes I tried but then they were scrapped I prefered the old stripped sweaters better.

As its canon chara is a teenage here, while frisk was a child.

The end of the au

The fandom is too toxic, I had gotten repeated backlashes, death threats, art stolen, and hate commets.

Chara:

Greatly the reason lies because of the view of chara, their morality is ambiguous. There are versions debates, that their evil, pure good, traumitzed child, are narrator, your partner.

My portrayal of Chara was on the good side, because of that many commets came like, "Chara cant love", "Chara is evil", "Chara cant be that kind", "Is frisk evil?", "Noelle is manipulative then", "Chara was abusive to Asriel" etc.

I know I know, There are many versions and all. But I really created these au for personal reasons Chara is meant to be Hope, the savior who gave up their soul here to just to free monsters, they loved too much hence the flowers they loved became the reason for their own death in Asriels arms.

I do know Chara in canon undertale, may have different reason but these is AU ALTERNATE UNIVERSE.

Chasriel

Here we are the final reason, Chasriel, the most hated ship, claimed incest. Got in in canon they might have been siblings. so what? Asriel and Chara always refer to each other as best friend, they are two different race, Asriel is literally obsessed with chara, the only one who can understand him, the only one who he cares about the most, the only one who he idolizes unhealthily, which he only realizes at the end of pacifist.

But these things do point towards at least a childish crush, or idolization.

But I respect people who don't ship them, not everything thinks the same, there are some who are with sibling side, I'm totally alright with it, if you don't like my ship that's FINE just don't fucking for the sake send me death threats, long messages explaining why they aren't siblings, I drew incest and all. I myself don't like incest, but if I don't even see it as incest cause its left ambiguous, and in the au their not even met till chara the eight human falls underground.

Asriel was here a cold, introverted Ice prince as he lost his two siblings Frisk, and noelle. He knows the effect of love how if he loves a human they will just die. But Chara broke through his walls, and taught him to love again. But despite that he lost chara to the flowers.

That was his whole character arc.

He had a happy childhood with frisk, noelle till they both died, and he grew up alone partially till ralsei was born. He had first hand saw humans after frisk who all died. He knows loving humans will just hurt him, yet he ended up falling for chara anyway. Chara had alot love to give which killed them. They wanted to be the kindess which they never received.

Yet, the people here ended up demotivating me. These au was left uncontinued.

No I wont be continuing it.

Well, I can say that this has convinced me to make a blog for this AU because I refuse to allow canon to exist... and maybe because I've been drawing a TurtleBumble PMV. My art ain't the best, but I am a goober who does not care.

A little fun fact: Bumble asking Turtle Tail about daffodils is a reference to, "Open your eyes. They're more precious than daffodils. I need you to open them.", which is seen in Part 1. I'm also a Flower Nerd™, hence why I immediately went, "I CAN REFERENCE THIS SO HARD."

I need to just... rant for a second because I had the displeasure of rereading The Sun Trail and Thunder Rising this morning. Good gods is the writing horrendous. I have so many qualms with the writing in general, but gods... Dawn of the Clans is really just like a problematic fave if we added in every toxic trait we could source.

I'M SORRY CANON?!

So, I was under the impression that it was Turtle Tail saying: "I'm sorry if I ever hurt you." BUT NO? GET THIS FOLKS: THAT'S BUMBLE REPLYING TO TURTLE TAIL. EXCUSE ME??? EX-FUCKING-CUSE? Okay, canon, fuck you too. We can't even get Turtle Tail apologizing for what she did. Gee, thanks, Erins.

Y'all wanna read this scene in full? Yeah, here we go. (Notice that Turtle Tail is replying.)

Turtle Tail turned away, her tail drooping, as Clear Sky vanished into the ferns. She crouched beside Bumble, avoiding the spreading pool of blood, and began licking her head gently. “I’m here,” she murmured between licks. “I won’t leave you.” Bumble fixed her eyes on Turtle Tail’s face. “I’m sorry if I ever hurt you,” she whispered. “I wish you could have found happiness,” Turtle Tail replied, her voice quivering. “I know you could never have lived wild with us in the hollow, but I was so unhappy to learn how much you were suffering in the Twolegplace.”

You left her, Turtle Tail. You abandoned her. Bumble, even at her death, is apologizing to you. When it's her who deserves all of the apologies. Bumble, sweetie, they- they abandoned you. Gods, that makes it so bittersweet how I wrote it like canon; Turtle Tail never apologized.

Bumble's last canon words are, "I'm sorry if I ever hurt you."

HOOH BOY.

Well, here's at least one slay moment before we get into below. I actually like Turtle Tail saying this in regards to Clear Sky hurting Bumble. (IF WE WEREN'T LISTENING TO GRAY WING MOPING ABOUT EVERYONE HATING CLEAR SKY SAD UWU)

“I do,” she growled, all her neck fur fluffed up. “I believe you could do this. Since I returned to the moor, I’ve heard nothing but horrible stories about the way you treat other cats. You’re power-mad, Clear Sky. You don’t care who you hurt to get what you want. And now... you’re not the cat I came down from the mountains with. You’re...” She switched her tail to and fro. “You’re an apology for a cat.”

I will say that I also (accidentally) stuck to canon in a way because...

“I wanted to give her a warning,” Clear Sky went on. “Nothing too painful, just a little cuff around her kittypet ear. How was I to know she was so weak from hunger that she would faint? But I could see her paws twitching, and I knew she would come around soon. So I left her and headed back to camp.” He paused, wincing. “Then I heard a fox bark, and I ran back. But I was too late. I was going to get help when I heard you all arrive.” “Liar!” Turtle Tail spat out the word, shouldering Gray Wing out of the way to confront Clear Sky. Her back was arched and her pelt bristling with fury

I wish I could say in regards to all of this, "At least you did this much, canon Turtle Tail," but I can't. Erins, this doesn't make me forgive her. She messed up. Confronting Clear Sky doesn't make me go, "Oh, it's okay that you threw away your friend and was extremely xenophobic!"

I want to add that only 4 paragraphs after - one of which Clear Sky snarled, "I won't be spoken to like that!", despite having injured Bumble horribly, then in another went to leave - Turtle Tail has the scene with Bumble. Like???

Imagine calling someone who inflicted deadly wounds on your friend a liar and he goes, ">:0 how dare you??", then you just... turn and walk away??? There's not even a moment where Turtle Tail yells at Clear Sky or anything. Pebble Heart doesn't come over and say, "Turtle Tail, she's not going to make it." It just hops over to her death scene.

I HAVE MORE TO SAY, BUT THAT'S FOR ANOTHER TIME.

(Note: Canon says, "We buried Bumble and came home," so... Good job, you guys, you buried her and let her murderer leave without consequence.)

Gray Wing

Side note before I get into this: Gray Wing, according to the Wiki, died at approx. 30 moons old??? Huh???

What I think is worse about Gray Wing than Clear Sky and Tom is that the narrative makes him the good guy. He is not demonized in any way, unlike the two aforementioned toms. While he didn't cause the blood to spill, he defended the murderer.

He looked at a dying cat and thought to himself, "I'm worried that my brother's deserved reputation will plummet further." He pities himself. He doesn't pity Turtle Tail for losing a friend. He doesn't care that someone is dying. There is a sickening lack of empathy.

Gray Wing should be seen for what he's done. His mistakes are there. He has made mistakes that can't be forgiven. Yet, instead of acknowledging it, we're told that he's right. Turtle Tail doesn't even get a voice in the debate, but she's seen as being on the "right side."

Erins, I am begging you to acknowledge that good people can be WRONG. It's okay to have the good people be wrong! Fatal flaws often are so important, because that flaw can also be their greatest shield.

In my mind, Gray Wing's fatal flaw is that he cannot see the flaws within his family. He blames others when things get out of hand. Deep down, he knows how wrong he is, but he swears to himself that family could never lie to him despite being lied to again and again. This stems from the rough life he led and everything going on.

We never see his father mentioned. Being fatherless doesn't excuse one's actions (this is coming from someone whose biological father is unknown), but is can help to explain them. My personal take is that, shortly after Quiet Rain got pregnant, Gray Wing's father lost his life due to a lack of prey. The death hit Gray Wing in the gut because he didn't expect to lose someone so quickly. Then, losing Fluttering Bird on top of his father made him protective of those he considers family.

Although, he definition of protective is toxic. He thinks protecting is constantly forgiving. He thinks protecting is hating anyone who breaks his happy life apart. He thinks protecting is loving without a second thought.

With all of this talk of Gray Wing, I think it's time we see into his head.

Was I Wrong?

Does it truly settle onto his shoulders?

Gray Wing rolls over in his nest. He gathered the moss today and made sure to fluff it, yet it feels as if a thousand burrs are clinging to it. An anxious sigh pours out of his maw as Turtle Tail's furious face comes to mind. His paw gingerly touches where the spit had flown onto. It stings more than when he's left wheezing and straining to breathe.

He screws his eyes shut, hoping that it'll block out the intrusive thoughts beginning to leak into his ears. Instead, it opens the floodgates...

"Is mom going to come home tonight?" Sparrow Fur asks, ducking her head. She prods the plump mouse laying at her paws as a hopeful expression perks up on her face. "Owl Eyes and I were super lucky to catch this and I..." She trails off and glances off to the side.

In her place, Owl Eyes pipes up with, "We thought it would be a good meal to give to her! Since... Since mom's been sad."

Gray Wing's heart sinks into his chest as he looks at the pair. The hope in their eyes is fading with every moment of silence that passes. Pain tightens in his chest. That kittypet's death has left a horrible mark on life. He always wanted her to be out of their life, but...

"I found some!" Pebble Heart suddenly cuts in, a slight smile on his face. It looks as though he got stung by a bee as one cheek is swollen. "Where's mom? I want to give her the honey I found."

Owl Eyes glances up at Gray Wing before sighing. "She's not coming." He bluntly states, his claws digging into the ground. His shoulders hunch over as a whimper pries itself from his lips. "She's not coming because..." He looks up at Gray Wing, an uncharacteristic amount of disdain in his eyes.

Gray Wing stiffens as the claws of panic dig into his pelt. Before he can stammer out a question, the three all share the same heartbroken expression before turning away. His jaw drops and hardens into that position. All he can grasp is that his paws are shaking and the world is whirling.

First it was Turtle Tail being upset, then his kits...

His gut twists uncomfortably as his fur heats. A wheezy cough forces itself out of his lungs. The pain, for once, is a comforting force and it dulls the unwanted questions prowling in his mind. Yet the pain fades away too quickly, like it was only a burr that had been ripped out.

All he was saying is the truth. Clear Sky said that it was a fox. It must have been an odd fox is all. One who treated its prey like a chew toy then ran off...

"When did you get fleas for brains, Gray Wing?" Jagged Peak, who used to stare up at him with admiration, snarls. "He's selfish. Clear Sky isn't an innocent kit you can!-"

Tall Shadow's tail swishes over Jagged Peak's muzzle. "Enough." She meows, her voice growing stony. "Gray Wing, we have much to discuss." With those few words, she bows her head and pads off to the side.

The nest irritates his skin enough to bring him to his paws. It isn't wrong of him to believe his littermate. Clear Sky is his flesh-and-blood. Even if there have been some... issues... with how Clear Sky is doing things, he just needs another chance to be believed.

Clear Sky must be hurting. It takes time to heal wounds and forgiveness makes them heal faster.

Gray Wing steps out of his den, letting the biting winds blow against his fur. He focuses his gaze onto the starry night sky as a soft sigh parts from his lips.

Clear Sky has lost many cats. He too lost a father and sister back in the mountains. On their journey, he lost his mate and unborn kits. Then, when he came here, he lost another mate and kits... It's been a struggle for Thunder, his only remaining kit, and him to connection.

"Every cat suffers, Gray Wing." Wind Runner's chiding voice rings in his ears. She had hissed those words softly before stalking away in silence. At the time, he stared after her in confusion, but now he can hear his own mind add onto her sentence.

Suffering isn't an excuse to be evil.

He digs his claws into the ground, his heart aching deeply. What would Quiet Rain say if she learned of everything Clear Sky has done? Surely, she would understand, right? Clear Sky... It's another world here. The logic of the forest is different than the mountains.

Drawing back her lips, Turtle Tail yowls, "Excuses! All you're good for is excuses!"

"I don't make excuses." He mutters, but he can hear his tone faltering as he watches ugly gray clouds begin to cover the pale full moon. Squeezing his eyes shut, he forces his head down. "Clear Sky is a good cat. He isn't... He isn't clouded with evil."

Gray Wing says, yet his brother abandoned his son. He abandoned Thunder. There are many monsters in the forest, but...

His mouth grows dry as every word he said about Clear Sky rings in his mind. He never gives those excuses or help to others.

Not even to a cat seeking - no, begging for - their aid.

Yet to Clear Sky, he keeps giving and giving despite his brother only being capable of taking.

Though... Could he have really been so wrong...? He has always thought of himself as wise, but does reality disagree with him?

A wise cat would have probably realized by now that Turtle Tail was suffering. Her eyes, despite the hate burning within them, were glossy and despairing. If he stayed a moment longer, he is sure she would have torn his pelt off.

She wasn't the cat I fell in love with.

He cringes at the sneering thought haunting his brain. His ears flatten and he swiftly shakes his head, trying to shoo it away. No, she is. It's just... She has hit a rough patch...

"If that kittypet died some..." The words die in his throat as his eyes snap open. He stares down at his trembling paws. Life drains from his body. Everything shrinks around him, pulling him away from the warmth of his pelt.

"Or is it because it's better for you if Bumble is dead?" Turtle Tail's words echo in his ears.

Every little sound surrounding him makes him want to scream. The cicadas are too noisy. The crickets are annoying. The breathing of the cats in the camp is overwhelming. No. He doesn't want to hear it.

It's not what he wanted.

He just wanted to give Turtle Tail the love she deserved. He does love her! He loves... He loves Turtle Tail, alright? That's all there is to it. She's very precious to him. Her kits are his kits now.

For a cat who says he loves her, an instructive voice in his head starts with a sneer, You never asked if she's okay. You never asked at all. Not a single time.

First off: I would 100% follow an au blog following this, Second off: Thanks anon!, Third off: Holy shit wait how did I not catch that bit about the daffodils, anon you genius

Dotc is the poorest excuse of an arc I've ever had the misfourtune of learning about. You're right, that line where it's BUMBLE apologizing to TURTLETAIL and not the other way around sucks ass, I don't know which writer thought that was a good idea to write in after what TurtleTail did. You stuck to canon in a way with the ClearSky bit, yes, but the thing is is that we aren't seeing this through GreyWing's pov and thus we don't get those bullshit little moments where GreyWing is like "Oh no people won't like my brother now :( oh.. boohoo". So the scene is not at all infuriating to read, unlike the canon scene, this version's narrative does not try to pity ClearSky in any way. The writers really did not know what to do with TurtleTail, they completely fucked up her writing and make her unlikable all of a sudden, destroying her friendship with Bumble for��� no reason. I don't want to extend this bit too much so I'll just end this part off with this: Yeah GreyWing is such a piece of shit.

So already off to a great start, gotta love seeing that asswipe not being able to relax himself and his mind. As much as I hate GreyWing, it's good to see that the story and writing isn't anti-adoption just as the canon books are, the text acknowledges the three cats as his children instead of pulling a "Tom is our REAL father and not GreyWing despite the latter looking after us all of our lives. GreyWing will NEVER be our father because we aren't biologically related and that matters apparently.". I love how the text "All he was saying is the truth. Clear Sky said that it was a fox. It must have been an odd fox is all. One who treated its prey like a chew toy then ran off…" comes across as it directly telling us what GreyWing is thinking about. But even then, both the text and GreyWing struggle to find truth in those words that ClearSky had stated, unlike the canon where GreyWing blindly believes him and doesn't second guess. Some of the bits also make us acknowledge GreyWing's fatal flaw in his character, that he's too much of a spineless coward to even doubt ClearSky because he believes that their biological familial relationship is most important if that makes sense. All characters in the series believe that blood relations is everything which then leads into the anti-adoption messages (See how TurtleTail's three kids suddenly do a 180 on how they feel about Tom when they learn he is their biological father). But this is a fault of the writers. GreyWing is spineless and can't/doesn't want to admit that his brother is a monster, over and over again, to the point where it ends up getting people killed.

"Suffering isn't an excuse to be evil." this is something that feels as though this is directly talking to us, the readers. To criticize those who believe that those who have suffered one way or another is some kind of excuse to - in ClearSky's case - start wars that kill plenty of cats, humilate and mock the injured, and attack a defenseless, starving kittypet. GreyWing is foolish to think that anybody would try to even attempt to understand ClearSky, with all of the pain he's caused, GreyWing needs to learn this somehow. That is his flaw. He silently denies to himself that he is trying to make excuses for ClearSky because his mind truly believes that this cat - a cat who's responsible for the death of many cats- isn't "clouded by evil". GreyWing needs to realize the truth. And he finally does. What's also a flaw in him is that he now only realizes that ClearSky is awful because of one cat who he is related to, Thunder. As if the plentiful array of deaths of the innocent wasn't proof enough, GreyWing only seems to care about it when he is affected in some kind of way. He realizes ClearSky is horrible, yes, but the way he goes about realizing this yet again shows us that he only cares about something bad if it affects him in some way. The text implies towards this, and it's great and relieving to read. Though for GreyWing, it's a step in the right direction as he realizes his fault of making up excuse after excuse for his war-mongering brother and only his brother, not anybody else. God, and the line that mocks GreyWing's title of "GreyWing the Wise" is so fucking clever and brilliant, "A wise cat would have probably realized by now that Turtle Tail was suffering." Goddamn and then it feels like right after that, GreyWing is trying to pull some kind of guilt attempt in his mind with the "She wasn't the cat I fell in love with.", as if she has changed in a negative way, yet again, another flaw with him. Everything GreyWing has ever excused and defended is like it all hits him hard like he's being struck by a train and it causes distress in him. "It's not what he wanted." like he is talking to himself in third person, but if he did not want that to happen, then why didn't he step in and defend Bumble, why did he let the poor kittpet be escorted out and back to a place of abuse? Because GreyWing is spineless and selfish. The instructive voice in his head is right, if he loved TurtleTail, then why did he never ask if she was okay. Perhaps, he doesn't love her.

This is such an interesting entry in this entire line of stories, we get a perspective of the worst main character in the series, and the text knows this too. It criticizes him and his thoughts, pointing out his fatal personality flaws and his urge to immediately defend his horrible brother, because he believes that their blood relation is everything, that he NEEDS to defend his biological brother. This is cowardly and the text knows it. GreyWing is still able to brush off even TurtleTail's feelings when Bumble had died, only ever caring about how ClearSky felt. It's like we are reading canon GreyWing, except this time, and thankfully this time, the text does not support him, it is against him. Once again Anon, you've done something really great and interesting here, I've said this plenty of times and I'll say it plenty more.

Aiden does not have the most, common love language. The way he shows his love is very, dangerous, toxic, peppered with few flashes of more common, safe and romantic language.

He shows his love by rigging my apartment from every ankle, protection against other hackers or fixers or even cops, ones that he can bypass. He shows it in the way he monitors me, through the cameras littered in my apartment, but also showing it how there aren't camera's in places he knows I'd hate (like my bedroom or bathroom). The way he deals with any gang around The Loop the very second he hears them emerging and starting to be organized. As side effect, Loop has no gangs, but that doesn't mean it's entirely safe or peaceful. Chicago population is very confused on this while ctOS turns it to good PR as always. He shows it by dropping excess money he has stolen into my accounts - sums I wouldn't notice but he does so frequently enough they accumulate.

Aiden does show his love in tinier, more romantic ways. Borrowing his colorful coats, phone calls on a night he feels lonely or I happen to call, having my stuff at the Bunker ready for me. Driving around Chicago together, sometimes chatting, sometimes in silence.

I show my love in more common way. Meals for him, listening ear, safe space for him to sleep, holding hands.

I find it fun dynamic to think about. There's something "problematic" in everyone since we aren't perfect.

Aiden does not have a pet, I don't think Nicky nor their parent's ever had one either. I think Aiden would be wary of animals, he hasn't been around them all his life so he isn't sure how to act with them. Dogs tend to bark at him a lot when he's out and about, so he's automatically on guard with them.

Due to this, I don't think Aiden likes or would want to have a pet. It'd be difficult, with his hacker jobs and ever changing location within the city. I can't see Aiden as someone who condones negligence or abandonment of animals.

He feels kinship with foxes, since they're stereotyped as cunning tricksters - like he is. His sorta hacker name is the Fox alongside Vigilante after all. He would like to meet a fox one day, maybe get close enough to pet it before it runs away. Aiden most likely hates the thought of being trapped or locked or frozen in place as well as feeling such emotions. He would not wish so on wild animal.

I've been musing me having a cat in Chicago in WD Canon!AU I have, but I think my situation in there would be similar to Aiden's. I think I'd be busy enough so owning a cat would be overwhelming. We'd be coming back from a date perhaps. Maybe old-school film in theatre Aiden used to go with Nicky. He'd check his phone - check the security cameras along with messages in the same go - I'd note the weather out loud, he'd look up & tuck his phone in his coat pocket and we'd peek out of the building together.

It'd be downpouring and I'd like it while Aiden silently laments on possibility of getting soaked and getting sick and that's the last thing he needs. We'd have a car parked across the street, far enough we'd be drenched before making it inside. Aiden would watch me, hands in pockets like he does, shifting his weight on one foot to another, while I try to check my if my humongous purse has umbrella. By miracle, since I pack a lot of shit - I do not and I groan. Aiden would smile at this, open in a way he only does with me and the words are out of his mouth before he knows it.

He challenges me to run to the car. I'd look at him all suspicious but he'd say he uses his coat to keep us dry and take it off and lay it over us both. It'd be mad dash towards the car he used and we do get wet and we're giggling when we make it inside, he turns on the heater and throw his coat backseat. Maybe we'd kiss.

I need to write that as fic now.

If not a date and we're on our own, Aiden would come visit. He doesn't like being wet like a drenched dog in Chicago night. We'd cuddle while watching some program and Aiden would get his belly full for once in a while. If it's really bad weather he'd stay until it's over and be gone again.

I like Bakuguo but his attitude is starting to really piss me off. He's talking about Daku as if he's just ~crazy~ and as if he isn't partly to blame for Deku's toxic self-worth issues. It's infuriating to watch. If Bakuguo doesn’t admit out loud and in front of his friends that his bullying of Deku played a part in Deku's current destructive state and if he doesn’t verbally apologize and reaffirm Deku's worth then I can no longer like Bakuguo's character or Hori's writing.

tbh I don't really know why this is the discourse of choice for people all of a sudden, but this is already the second ask I've gotten about it, so I might as well address it lol.

I think fandom is conflating fanon!Deku and canon!Deku here again. fanon Deku is of course much more sensitive and woobified and has much shakier self-esteem. fanon Deku is the one that turns evil in so many AUs because of Kacchan's bullying. fanon Deku is the one that actually jumps off the roof in so many fics, as opposed to fishing his notebook back out of the pond a few minutes later grumbling about how Kacchan needs to think before he speaks or else he could land himself in serious shit one day if god forbid anyone actually does take his cruel words to heart.

and just to clarify before I get any further, I am not saying this to excuse Kacchan's actions in any way, because what he did was still completely terrible and unacceptable and WAY over the line, and what's more he knew it, too. the bullying was still shitty and horrible and awful, and definitely impacted Deku and made him miserable. I fully acknowledge that, and that Kacchan has a lot of atoning to do for it. this is not a "Kacchan did nothing wrong" post.

but that being said, I don't think canon Deku's reckless self-sacrificing nature actually has anything to do with the bullying. I think they're two completely separate things. canon Deku actually has pretty decent self-esteem in spite of everything Kacchan did to him. canon Deku doesn't think he is useless. canon Deku had a wholeass fight with Kacchan less than 10 chapters into the series in which he explicitly spelled it out for Kacchan that he had a lot of worth, and was going to prove it to him. canon Deku was persistent in wanting to become a hero and hoping and believing that he could find some way in spite of being quirkless. canon Deku never let go of that dream even when no one else supported it. I don't think he would have even given up on it after being told no by All Might, tbh -- we just never got to see how it would have played out because of everything that happened with the sludge monster shortly afterward. but he's not the type to ever give up on something that easily, and we've seen that. canon Deku never thought he was useless, but rather wanted to prove to everyone else that he wasn't.

the drive that Deku has to save and protect others even at the expense of his own safety is something entirely separate from that. he doesn't break his body for others simply because he has no self-esteem and thinks that his own life isn't important. he does it because he can't stand the thought of someone else getting hurt, and knowing that he could have done something to prevent it. it's as simple as that. like, Spider-Man has the whole "with great power comes great responsibility" thing, right? and he doesn't have low self-esteem; he simply believes that if he has the ability to help someone else, then he has a responsibility to help them. it's a personal creed. and Deku is based on Spider-Man. his philosophy is based on that philosophy, which was one of Horikoshi's core influences and is one of the core creeds in superhero fiction.

Deku is self-destructive not because he doesn't value himself, but because he is literally physically incapable of standing back and doing nothing if he knows that he can do something. he's the type of person who sees a car speeding towards someone and leaps in to push them out of the way. NOT because he wants to get himself fucking pancaked by a speeding car, but simply because he can't sit back and watch the other person get hurt without taking action. his body moves before he can think. and that's where the whole "doesn't take himself into account" thing comes in -- the fact that his thought process simply stops at "get them out of the way of the car", and never extends beyond that to "hey, and maybe I should try to find a way to do this that doesn't involve me getting hit in their place." to him, that's simply less important than the first priority, which is getting the other person out of the way.

and regarding that last part, while that may seem like a self-worth issue if he's prioritizing everyone else above himself, I think what it actually is just selflessness taken to extremes. like for instance, when a parent sacrifices themselves to save their child, them placing the child's life above their own isn't necessarily because they don't see themselves as having value. rather, it's that they love the child so much that they place their well-being even above their own. and that's what Deku is like as well. except that in his case he cares about EVERYONE, and so is willing to sacrifice himself for anyone. and that selflessness is his defining character trait, and simultaneously the most admirable and the most terrifying thing about him. it's both his greatest strength and his greatest weakness, which I think is fascinating to explore.

but anyway, so that's also why we never really see anyone thoroughly chewing him out for this behavior either. because the thing is, it is admirable how selfless he is. it's just that there's also a reason why most people are at least a little bit selfish. and that's because too much selflessness will ultimately and inevitably wind up getting you killed. at some point you either have to learn when to put the oxygen mask on yourself first, or else find yourself a loyal group of friends (or classmates) to watch your back, and make sure that mask gets on you when you need it. and maybe help you land the plane too while they're at it.

anyway so that was a lot of rambling, but basically it all boils down to three things:

when Deku berates himself for being useless (for instance at the end of the War arc), he's doing it out of frustration for not being able to push the others out of the way of the metaphorical car. that's the kind of uselessness he can't stand. the sitting-back-and-doing-nothing uselessness.

Kacchan's bullying was terrible, and it might have indeed played a part in Deku's choice of the word "useless" as a way of berating himself in these instances, but he is not the one who gave Deku this mindset of taking himself out of the equation. that's something that was already inherent to Deku from day one. (but that said, Kacchan has a lot of things to apologize to Deku for anyway, so if he wants to add this to the list I certainly won't stop him. he gets mad about Deku's suicidal attitude because it worries him, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't feel responsible for it. people underestimated his feelings of atonement before 284/285, and I think they're still underestimating him now.)

and lastly, one last important note, which is that Deku's current "saving" mindset isn't wrong, just as Kacchan's "winning" mindset was not wrong either. the lesson to be learned here is NOT that being selfless and wanting to save other people is bad. rather, it's the fact that he's trying to do it alone that's got him all fucked up right now. basically when you think about it, selflessness is really just selfishness on someone else's behalf. which means that in order for Deku to be saved, it isn't necessary for him to change his outlook or his selfless attitude, even if it is pretty crazy lol. rather, all he really needs is a good group of friends who are willing to act selfishly on his behalf in return. protecting each other through mutual selflessness lol. teamwork as self-preservation. hence why the U.A. kids are here now.

anyway so yeah, I think that's everything. sorry this got so long and out of control lol. this is just a very specific nuanced thing that's hard for me to express, but which I feel is very important when it comes to Deku's character. Kacchan didn't unleash Depressed Nomad Deku on the world (or at least not in this respect). but that being said, he and the others will hopefully be the ones to nudge him back on the right course again.

Either all as heroes, all as villains, a non-powered AU... whatever you can imagine, basically. What do you think a ship like that would be like in terms of character dynamics?

Well, when it comes to Ship dynamics, In terms of in Canon and based off canon personalities, Very Toxic.

The MariGami would be the least Toxic side to it. And by that I mean, Marinette would still be running off and lying about being Ladybug to her and it would recreate the same issue between them as it did between Kagami and Adrien in “Lies.”

We know how Canon Lila & Chloe act to Marinette so we don’t have to explain why that’s bad.

HOWEVER,

Outside of canon, In an AU where teenage girls aren’t treated like Psychopaths and Irredeemable villains?

Hmm, It’s difficult for me to come up with one on the spot.

Well if we take my version of Lila & Chloe, then they’d both be Ignoring/Repressing their attraction to girls.

In Chloe’s case, she’s outright refusing to accept she likes girls, cause that would mean she likes Marinette. So she clings to every boy that she can to “Prove” she likes boys, hence her Season 1 attraction to Adrien.

He’s her Beard.

Now I’m very picky about Lila in terms of how I label her, cause yes she likes girl, no I don’t think she’s a lesbian. I actually do prefer her to have the Aro/Ace Headcanon but she can and will get into a relationship or QPR.

Going off of canon material we can confirm that Kagami and Marinette are both Bisexual, ones just a disaster while the other is emotionally repressed.

Now, for sake of ease, let’s say this AU is one where all four get picked to fight Hawkmoth from the start, with four miraculous.

So:

Ladybug = Chloe

Cat = Kagami

Fox = Marinette

Bee = Lila

Now I choose these ones cause Chloe would, at first, Act like she does in Zoe-oneesama’s Scarlet Lady AU. All high and mighty but that would, in time, get knocked down as everyone else manages to get the message that Heroing isn’t fun and games.

Kagami takes a very Shogun anime heroine approach, until she has that mindset knocked out of her from how very real everything is.

The same goes for Lila as Chloe. Very high up there above everyone else energy. Except Lila has no idea she’s a lesbian, she’s so far in the Closet she doesn’t remember ever going in there to begin with.

Marinette is just stressed like in canon but worse.

So the group dynamic, At the start, is a big ball of stress and disorganisation. A bunch of school girls fighting over who gets to be the knight to slay the dragon.

But, after they’ve overcome this obstacle and begin working as a team, then their personal relationships can begin to form.

As a team they go from Annoying Co-workers to reluctantly ok coworkers to maybe friends to friends and then Sisters on the battlefield.

Now, at this point in this hypothetical story, Chloe has undergone a massive amount of her redemption, she’s better, Nicer but still Chloe

Lila had gone from, Girl who lies for attention cause she’s lonely to Girl who’s finding her true self. So a lot of self reflection on how she feels and how her Hereronormative acts aren’t who she is.

If we take it from the hero’s side, instead of civilian identities for the shipping part. Then I’d say at the very least Chloe has gotten a crush on them, thanks to their kindness and motivational talks.

Marinette Disaster Bisexual Dupain-Cheng has had a crush on Kagami since like, day 5 and by golly she does see how beautiful the other two are.

So… Endgame ship dynamic would be… Marinette gushing over her girlfriends but also exasperated by how lacking in life skills they are (Rich/Neglected) and has made it her mission to teach them to be people.

Kagami tried to teach them all about the art of contact sports and fencing, with little success and is usually the one in the back giving a glare to anyone who dares flirt with or upset her girlfriends.

Chloe tries to spoil them with gifts and over the top affection, cause she wants twice the affection that she gives out. She’s goes on and on about doing up their make up and hair to better suit them and is the one to take them on expensive shopping trips when they need things.

And Lila, while 100% involved in everything, treats it more as a QPR then a Poly Relationship. She does want the same level of attention, just not as heavily on the Romantic side of things. Though she will occasionally give/Receive kisses/affection.

... Uh, well. I can’t help but wonder if you’re aware this blog is run by the actual author of the story in question? I don’t know if you expect me to give you a non-biased answer when I’ve considered the story was worth 8 years of my life xD as far as I’m concerned, it absolutely has been worth it, but I can’t speak for the whole wide world when it comes to that. If you want the opinions of readers, there’s probably other blogs run by people who have read the story and who might have critical opinions about it... that may be what you were looking for. If, however, you were deliberately hoping to get my opinion on my own story... well, yes, for me it’s clearly worth it xD Otherwise, I would’ve quit ages ago.

The story is indeed very long and it keeps getting longer, and it will keep getting longer because we’re not done yet and won’t be for a while :’D if you’re the type of reader who can’t stand it when they catch up to stories and have to wait for updates, well, feel free to give it a shot when I’m done writing it, I guess? It’ll be a while until then, but it’s up to you. If you don’t like reading really long stories, then it’s probably better for you if you don’t force yourself to read this one, I know not everyone is ready to dedicate that much time to reading something, especially if they have lots of things to do. Hence, if the length daunts you, that’s alright, it daunts me too and I’m responsible for it xD it’s fine if that deters you from reading it.

But as the way you phrased your question almost sounded like you’re challenging me to give you some sort of sales pitch to catch your attention, let’s see if I can pull it off:

Gladiator is a massive ATLA AU, not only in terms of story length but also scope: it’s a complete rewrite of the entirety of ATLA in a more mature setting, starting chapter 1 with the characters 5 years older than they were in canon. Aang’s adventures in saving the world did not take place here because of a simple enough reason: Katara didn’t accompany Sokka on his boat on the fateful day when they were meant to find Aang, which means the story as we’ve known it simply doesn’t take place. I’ve taken liberties here and there, added some changes from canon when I needed to do so, in order to ensure the story works, but the gist of the story is to set a stage where the Fire Nation marched onwards, practically unopposed, and conquered the Earth Kingdom with the power of Sozin’s Comet (just in case it needs to be clarified, without certain technological developments, Ozai’s wild plan to incinerate the whole world wouldn’t happen, and if Team Avatar isn’t assembled before the Comet shows up, said technological developments simply wouldn’t exist... :’D). I’ve had to figure out how many details would change, how much of the original story would or wouldn’t happen without Team Avatar’s involvement, I think most my choices have been solid, but it’ll be up to you to decide if you think they are or not if you read the story.

The worldbuilding of Gladiator, then, is preeeetty huge and complicated because of that starting point. There’s a lot of elements that are completely new (such as the Gladiator League and all its derivates), some OCs, some lore expansion, so you can definitely say it’s an ambitious project. In a sense, I’ve reset canon to zero, and at the same time I haven’t, which makes things complicated but, for me, really fun to develop. If you’re interested in seeing more of the Avatarverse explored, characters repurposed, with new dynamics and relationships, Gladiator may just be what you’ve been looking for :D

In my experience, the main reason why most people stumble into this fic (other than by sorting FF.net’s ATLA stories by review count and drawing blanks upon glimpsing a Sokkla story on the first page xD) is because they’ve been drawn into Sokkla, or they’re looking for stories centered around Azula or Sokka. Gladiator, evidently, features all three such elements because, obviously, those two are the protagonists and their relationship is the beating heart of the whole tale. I’ve been asked in the past who’s the real protagonist and I honestly still have no idea xD but anyways, if you’re interested in reading a story with a toooooon of Azula character development, even if it takes place across a long, long time, this story may just do the trick. I’ve done the best I could to keep her character as true to what I believed a young adult Azula might become, within the circumstances of this story. She has grown a LOT in 200 chapters, goes without saying (if she hadn’t, I’d be one heck of a failure of an author x’D), so if you’re interested in seeing a slow but effective growth arc for Azula, you’ll certainly find that in Gladiator. Same is true for Sokka, but I think most people who come to this fic for Sokka are interested in seeing him being a badass, which we have plenty of as well xD still, it’s also a long and slow process for Sokka to grow into a powerful warrior, neither him nor Azula start out in the story with all the answers, and they both bump into many hurdles as they navigate their complicated lives.

There’s a lot of humor in Gladiator, perhaps more than expected with a story that has that sort of dark premise, but it’s, on great measure, because Sokka and Azula are inevitably given to banter xD if you want to read a lot of banter between those two, well, you may not be bored in 200 chapters because, while the nature of their exchanges does vary as they both develop, their conversations are usually pretty spirited and they love trying to outsmart each other all the time.

If you are already a Sokkla shipper and the main reason you’re here is because you want more Sokkla goodness in your life... I’ll just say Gladiator has become a bit of a dream come true for me as a Sokkla shipper as well, because it’s the perfect space for me to work with virtually every idea I’ve ever had for these two. Yes, there’s drama and conflict here and there, if you’re not too given to angst there’s a few parts of the story that won’t sit so well with you, though if you love angst you’ll probably enjoy them plenty... yet what I’m most proud of, with this story, is having developed their relationship not only as best I could, but I’ve also attempted to defy typical storytelling structures for romance stories, where the lead couple can’t seem to have a stable relationship because “that would be boring”. Screw that, man: these two have been in a serious relationship together in-story by now for well over half the published chapters, and I’ve had the time of my life writing their dynamics as a couple while the plot continues to develop around them. This, however, is not everyone’s cup of tea, so if you aren’t all that given to seeing such traditional romance storytelling structures dismissed because I wanted to write my favorite ship dealing with all their external struggles while finding strength in the bond they share, Gladiator may not hold your attention long enough for you to devote yourself to reading it beyond chapter 100-ish. On the other hand, if this subversion of romance structure is what you’ve been looking for all your life, or if it’s what you always wanted and never knew you wanted it, or if you’re simply curious as to whether it works or not, Gladiator may suit your interests fairly well. Again, Sokkla is the absolute center of this story, both together and independently, so if you want to see a rewrite of ATLA with them at the core of just... everything? xD that’s absolutely what you’ll find here.

That being said, there’s things I guess you should mind about Gladiator: I have some relatively controversial takes about certain things, including interpretations of fan-favorite characters that some people have been known to take offense over. I, personally, believe my interpretations of those characters don’t deviate that much from canon or that, when they do, the setting itself explains why the deviation works as it does, but due to the fact that I work with a protagonist who was in a villainous role back in ATLA, her relationships with some characters can be more complicated than a lot of people seem to believe they should be. Hence, if you’re not particularly adverse to reading content that brings up big questions about the motivations of certain characters, or how they’d react if the story from ATLA hadn’t happened exactly as it did, you’ll have enough fun in Gladiator. If, however, you don’t particularly care to see anything that shows beloved characters in a not-so-flattering light, this story may not be for you (though, if you’re willing to humor me and allow my story to question your perception of those characters, feel free to try the story as well). 

There’s also a variety of dark themes and situations in Gladiator, something that any reader should be warned about in this day and age: I am 100% against violence for the sake of violence, to name one such subject, and I generally try to portray it with as much nuance as possible, but even if I feature my own characters criticizing their violent world and wanting to put an end to the strife caused by the Fire Nation, some of the violence in Gladiator may be a little too much for the readers who prefer the tone of the original ATLA. Hence, if that’s how it is for you, it’s another reason to approach the story with caution. I won’t pretend I’ve handled every theme and subject perfectly, but I’ve never wanted the darker moments to feel gratuitous in any way, so if you’re open to reading a darker take on the Avatarverse, this may work for you after all.

Alas! If you want to see Azula growing out of the toxic Fire Nation indoctrination, if you want to see Sokka gaining confidence and strength as a man and warrior, if you want to see a fleshed-out but still very much villainous Ozai, if you want to see Toph fulfilling her dreams of joining an all-out fighting league where she can beat people up for a living, if you want to see a myriad of secondary ATLA characters (like Song, or Shoji!) given new lives and even genuine protagonism, if you want to see Zuko discovering he’s allowed to just... be happy? xD Gladiator may prove interesting enough for you.

Furthermore, if you want to see Azula being true friends with Mai and Ty Lee, discovering a dragon, developing new firebending styles, confronting her misplaced beliefs about herself, rebelling subtly (and lately, not so subtly) against her father, growing into a great leader who could change the Fire Nation’s nefarious direction...  aaand if you want to see Sokka fighting creatively (sometimes with TWO swords!), navigating the dangerous waters of interacting with Fire Lord Ozai, staying true to his beliefs while also learning that the world is not as black-and-white as he was raised to think it was, understanding himself better and making the most of his potential as a quick learner, writing embarrassing haiku and being an unapologetic rebel who goes toe-to-toe with Heads of State just because he can... yep. Probably read it? xD

Lastly... if you want to see Sokka and Azula grow through their mistakes, learning to understand each other, fighting side by side, training together, dancing to no music, learning the underrated pleasure of proper communication in a relationship, sassing each other left and right, flirting in ridiculous ways, taunting each other in many regards, laughing at each other’s terrible jokes, protecting each other fiercely, challenging each other to a spicy ramen eating contest, discovering indirect bending, being highly inappropriate at times and places where they shouldn’t be, making long, dangerous yet fun journeys together, sneaking around to meet up when they’re not supposed to, standing by each other in their darkest moments, watching over the other when they’re sick/injured, being ready to sacrifice virtually anything for each other, and even defying and defeating even death to save each other...? Well, I don’t know if there’s any other stories where you might find all of this, but I can guarantee you’ll find it in Gladiator :)

If none of this is convincing enough... that’s a shame, but I understand. If it convinced you to give it a shot, however... I guess I’ll just hope you enjoy it enough to stick around! :) thanks for taking my story into consideration regardless of whatever you decide. Have a nice day!

What kind of fic I’d write about them: What I am writing about them: The Aeris as a scavenger in her childhood fic is slowly inching towards a new draft; there’s the trio of Resident Evil/FFVII mash-ups which will feature her as a main character (in place of (seemingly confusingly) Claire, Jill and Sherry) which I have finally started. And some mid-canon smut. Because apparently I cannot help myself.

A favorite canon moment: Remake is Remake and I have expended too many words on the thing, but Chairith remains an absolute delight no matter what.

A random AU I think up on the spot for them: Aeris Gainsborough: Planeswarden facilitates the Other Ship ramble up there. How about; Aeris Gainsborough: Marine biologist; Ifalna got her and Aeris out of the city and as far as Costa del Sol – both have remained somehow undetected and Aeris spends her time exploring the corals and reefs around the resort area/fighting local governance about conservation. Somehow the rest of the cast run across her in a succession of other events that need more mapping to get around her absence earlier in the story.

And cut for length because I went off on this last question...

Anything else: I remain highly amused that both OG and Remake Aeris have been deemed troublesome or problematic or abusive or stalkerish or toxic or some other bad term and are in fact the true villain of FFVII/somehow only toxic in their associations with Cloud. Literally everyone else is FINE and she is perfectly lovely with them. But with Cloud she cannot help but be a horrible, horrible person who makes his life an unending hell.

 1) Asking Cloud to spend time with them instead of taking him straight to Sector 7 (and while the specifics are different between the versions, that this is something she (unspoken) insists upon while Cloud is apparently champing at the bit to get going and not spend time with Aeris.

 This seemingly strips Cloud of the remotest shred of his own agency?

 And is so very weird – not like Aeris is literally the only person who can navigate Midgar and I do not understand why Cloud cannot avail himself of some simple, pragmatic solutions like ditching or refusing to help Aeris at multiple opportunities (like in Remake when she literally leaves him outside Leaf House, or fleeing from Elmyra’s house when she’s upstairs in either version etc) and asking literally anyone else how to get to Sector 7 or using the layout of Midgar itself as a starting point for figuring out the route (he is in Sector 5. If he looks towards the centre of the city, Sector 4 is on his right, Sector 6 is on his left. If he keeps going left he will eventually come to Sector 7. Even if Cloud is somehow unaware of the city’s structure/layout he will be able to extrapolate by looking up from the slums at how the Upper plate looks/how the reactors are labelled. This is not difficult. Also Remake’s secretive way into Sector 7 doesn’t even come up until they reach the park/we see the gate is currently closed, so it’s not because he knows he needs her solely for this otherwise mysterious route/he can still hang around in the park until the gate opens for other through traffic if he’s desperate to get there. There is no actual urgency on getting back to Sector 7 as far as *he* knows – hence why he doesn’t actually hurry) or finding a map or using the station (which should then also circumvent the gate Cloud doesn’t know about) and so on and so on)

 2) Not wanting to be left behind when Cloud tried to leave in the middle of the night (I mean, how dare she want to spend time with him/everyone is so weirdly adamant that she hasn’t, say, overheard Elmyra’s request to Cloud and thus KNOWS it’s not strictly his opinion to stop her going with him/he once again makes almost no effort to deter her when he runs into her. Oh and her not doing that will near definitely cause Marlene’s death to say nothing of most/all of Avalanche except Tifa)

 3) Making Cloud leaving in the middle of the night without alerting her trivially more difficult (given that he can still leave without her hearing and bursting out of her room doesn’t really gel – if she was a mastermind, not sure Cloud should be able to avoid it on tip-toe really)

 4) High-fiving him repeatedly (the monster. Not like she stops when he seems uncomfortable/he later makes the first move to high-five her so... I don’t get it).

 5) *Might* know the whole plot in Remake and thus is culpable for every death in Sector Seven (which is... 1 or maybe 2 named people (there are those tragic sector 7 people without names or context we see die at the pillar admittedly) depending on how you count – and at least one of those (Biggs) is definitively alive come the Remake epilogue, so one named person (Jessie) who was blown up in a fight with Shinra. The villainy of Aeris! Oh sure you are told other people died, but sector 7 denizen’s major concerns seem to be the structures within the sector which doesn’t really indicate any other casualties actually occurred. Those not explicitly depicted would seem to be okay as no one mentions them either: you’d expect Johnny to bring up if his parents died (and like, maybe he doesn’t know, but he cannot have missed the plate-drop and his parents live in the sector and his relationship with them never seemed horrible so, surely he would care a little/react differently if they were dead))/Wedge to mention Jessie’s parents but neither happen). Oh and for Aeris to do the obvious intervention to fix terrible events would increasingly derail the plot even just in the first part, so, *maybe* she doesn’t know the whole plot (or else has some strange reason why she can’t interfere) and that conjecture is not accurate?

To p 5 Kabuto ships?

god my answer to this has changed a lot over the years and i feel like my longtime followers are probably sick of hearing me talk about it lmao but! here’s the current list

1. kabuto/orochimaru - this is The Big One and honestly the rest of the ships on this list are either, like. jokes or points of vague intrigue as opposed to Real Ships in comparison jfdfdskhfsjdk what can i say! they’re weird codependent spouses turned weird bitter divorcees and i love it. like if you’ll allow me to be Sincere for a second i just love how this ship illuminates the psychology of both people involved when it’s done well (which tbh it often isn’t, hence its unpopularity). there’s a reason i keep returning to it even though i’m no longer a h*rny middle schooler (now i’m h*rny with a ba in english!). orochimaru’s relationship with kabuto is effectively the ONLY genuine-ish relationship in his life during the events of the series, and it’s odd to me that people tend to overlook his obvious trust and dependence in favor of a more one-sided narrative on kabuto’s part. kishimoto’s writing is obviously partly to blame for this but even in pt 1, we see a certain reluctance on kabuto’s part to Need orochimaru only for his resolve to give way over time. you literally did not ask for all this but i’m feeling a little emo this fine sunday afternoon so that’s my highly abbreviated kabuoro manifesto! also the comedy. it’s objectively the funniest ship what with kabuto’s canon jealousy and their coparenting of sasuke but that’s a whole other post

2. kabuto/yamato - before anyone looks at me sideways this is entirely the fault of this sound yamato au from way back in the day that i encourage everyone to check out. in the context of the au this ship is absolutely a no-brainer. and even outside the context of the au (all the uh. vore and captivity and torture in canon notwithstanding, i guess?) i think they could be good together in a postcanon scenario. i’ve said that yamato would be by far the best boyfriend in the series and kabuto needs a good boyfriend/stabilizing force in general. to me the only major roadblock with this ship is that i don’t think kabuto is the type to rly WANT to move on from his last toxic relationship but who knows. maybe one of these days i’ll write a “kabuto makes healthy interpersonal choices” au

3. kabuto/kakashi - this is a bit arbitrary bc like i said i don’t care about the other ships on this list NEARLY as much but kakakabu is like. idk. i’ve read some good fic (mostly by deiectus on ao3) that sold the ship to me a bit. the problem is that fandom sort of ruined kakashi for me so it’s difficult for me to get invested lmao. but the potential is there! i do rly enjoy their few interactions in canon and i think it’s interesting how kabuto’s skill level is frequently compared to kakashi’s in pt 1, giving us a sort of impression that he’s like………darksided kakashi flkjhdsjkksd idk!! it’s fine. it’s a harmless occasionally enjoyable ship for me in a “maybe they fucked a few times” kind of way

4. kabuto/itachi - i actually like this ship a lot less than i did in the past which is why it’s dropped a few spots lmao but! but. i do still kind of like the idea of izanami not being a brainwashing Instant Character Development jutsu and more of a trippy deeply intimate therapy no jutsu type…….thing. unfortunately that’s not what we got in canon (which was abundantly clear to me upon rewatching) but the idea is still appealing to me theoretically. also i still think the idea of kabuto deciding to fix his whole life partially bc he thought itachi could Get It is funny. idk. i lowkey hate itachi at this point in my life so that’s the main issue here. get a personality, piggie

5. kabuto/guren - this one is almost entirely a joke bc they’re both gay but i think it’s fucking hilarious. they absolutely tried to bang once and it went badly and that’s canon. don’t change my mind

How I feel about this character? 

I mean anyone that follows this blog probably already realizes I absolutely adore him! He is such a mysterious character and while at first I was to caught up laughing at the fact that Fitzgerald can literally ‘consume’ money to notice Fyodor after he ‘killed’ Ace I was in love with him because he is strangely funny in the manga that you wouldn’t expect for a character like him and to me it separates him from villains I personally consider rather shallow villains like All for One (from BNHA) and Gyokuen (from Magi).

All the people I ship romantically with this character?

You want a fucking list, cause I got one: Agatha, Gogol (DO OR DIE), Chuuya and Dazai are my favorites. That said I could totally get behind some messed up love/hate/whatever you could possibly call it with Fyodor and Shibusawa cause for some reason how toxic it could be interests me in the way real life toxic relationships don’t.

My non-romantic OTP for this character?

Do they actually have to like one another? Cause if not Nathaniel and Fyodor and someone  (I won’t name any names) got me into liking Fyodor and Margaret as friends solely from the perspective of an AU where Fyodor hasn’t fucked up Nathaniel of course.

My unpopular opinion about this character?

I kind of hate the perspective of Fyodor thinking of himself as a god. I know he is arrogant. I know he is more or less trying to play god, but going on the assumption that he is Christian, it just doesn’t make sense since a big part of the Christian faith (at least how I was taught) is the whole concept of ‘not having a god before the one true god’. Granted I know someone will get pissed and try to defend that it’s his interpretation and it is meant to make him out to be an arrogant asshole and what not, but at least how I was taught there is only one god and he is more or less immune to simple things like anemia and Fyodor has always come off to me as a man of logic and faith so to me it just doesn’t make sense.  Hence why that is one of the few parts of canon, in regards to what we know of him that I blatantly ignore. That said more power to the other Fyodor muns that actually choose to write him thinking himself like that, because you guys are fucking amazing. Plus as a Christian I am uncomfy writing Fyodor seeing himself as a god when he is Christian in my portrayal. :D

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon?

Outside of him dying cause if he doesn’t die at the end I will be upset?  I am really just hoping there comes a scene where that whole calm poker face of his comes undone and he just goes ballistic or we get to see some emotion deeper than smug, cold, uninterested, etc. I love seeing the always calm cool types absolutely lose it! It’s part of why I write him as being slightly more human in my portrayal, actually.

How I feel about this character?

I think Nathaniel is okay. I mean I can appreciate the whole concept of a character that embodies everything I disapprove of in the Christian faith, solely from the perspective of it is pretty realistic and I am stickler for realism in my writing.

I think it would be disappointing if his character doesn’t get development beyond whatever shit Fyodor, presumably, did to him.

Honestly just him and Margaret, cause dammit wouldn’t that be a badass couple.

Did I mention him and Fyodor, even if technically it would be antagonistic at best and hateful at worst? Also just him and the guild as a whole!

I don’t want to say he is an idiot because Nathaniel is actually trying to do the right thing for Margaret and I can get behind the idea of him thinking he had no other choice BUT THE FACT THAT NATHANIEL LEAVES THE GUILD AND JOINS FYODOR IS PROBABLY THE DUMBEST WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM! NATHANIEL SHOULD KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAKE A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL! 

And it ends up being pointless anyway because the guild is closer than Fyodor claims to be to reviving Margaret so all this sacrifice just feels pointless.

Margaret coming out of her coma and beating the ever living hell out of him for becoming Fyodor’s practical slave because someone needs to beat some sense into him.

How I feel about this character?

I FUCKING LOVE HIM! I mean considering before I even before knew my chi puppy (Nikolai) existed I knew I was going to name him after Gogol granted I probably should have named Nikolai Dabi cause the daughter of the lady I got him from named him Todoroki.

Gogol is the kind of ADHD crazy that I can’t help but love and I love writing him when I am on a sugar free sugar high and I want to bounce off the walls because writing Gogol comes so easily when I am as easily amused as a two year old seeing colorful lights.

FYODOR AND GOGOL FOREVER BITCHES. I also kind of like the idea of Gogol and Sigma but you probably won’t see me going on much about the ship, unless it’s my Gogol’s au verse where my Gogol and Aspie’s Sigma are working on becoming a thing because Gogol is so happy in that verse and he and Sigma are so good to one another. I also like Gogol x Dazai even if it is even more of a stretch than Fyogol, and my Gogol hates Dazai for literally no reason.

My non-romantic OTP for this character?

Hmmmmm no one to mind, since he is so canonically irritating and doesn’t have that many interactions with anyone outside of Fyodor and Sigma.

My unpopular opinion about this character?

Ooooooh I am going to get in so much trouble for this.... but I honestly prefer the idea as far as canon goes that when Gogol saves Sigma he had every intention of letting Sigma bleed out if he decided not to get caught up in this war that Gogol is starting with Fyodor.

In my mind Gogol is a villain and he is every bit as unhinged and dangerous as Fyodor so when it comes down to it I like the idea of Gogol asking Sigma being just a formality when Sigma doesn’t have a choice in the matter in the grand scheme of things.

Granted I love how members of the fandom decided to do their own thing with it because that is one of the best parts of rping; being open to saying fuck canon and do you own shit.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon?

The only thing I truly want to know/happen is if it gets revealed whether or not Gogol is blind in the eye he covers with a card or if Gogol is 1000% all about his aesthetics and it is meant to be more flashy and avant garde. 

All I ask for is an answer, no lie. I am easily pleased when it comes to Gogol because his personality is so great.

Okay, as someone who was involved in the Hevelyn ship from very early on however has long sense left the fandom let’s do a break down of this post

-First off, chemistry is definitely a thing for individuals to decide what fictional characters they think have it, if you think they don’t that’s fine and that’s enough for you to not ship it, no need for the rest of the post, ship and let ship and all that, but as you continued so shall I.

-You’ve brought up in posts yourself that Evelyn has redeeming traits that doesn’t mean she’s unshippable. And Hero/Villain is a very common trope and ship you see in lots of media, and especially in fandom, it’s not inherently toxic.

-Helen’s reply to this in canon is “But you can count on me anyway,” this is a great piece of dialogue for both characters, and it brings up Elastigirl’s, Helen’s, caring nature, it would be entirely in character for Helen to reach out post movie to help Evelyn, who has been traumatized and let down by heroes not being there in the past, Helen could very well go out of her way to not be another one.

-So, most fan content for this ship involves polyamory, many of the rest tend to be AUs in that Helen and Bob are either never married, divorced, or some much further from canon AU. All this is also ignoring the part that many many many ships involved married people, fan content that changes canon however fans wish is not problematic, that’s the very nature of fandom.

-Most fan content for this ship tended to focus heavily on making the relationship healthy, many are slow burns, the poly ones have lots of communication with all parties involved, and most everyone did not use the hypno-goggles as that approached dub/noncon. Is there fucking? Of course it’s fandom, but that’s not the majority of content.

-Yes, lesbians can have long hair and gay guys can have short hair, there’s a reason Winston is fairly commonly headcanoned as queer as well, but Evelyn is very queer coded, the short hair, fairly masculine way of dressing, low voice for a woman. It’s been a thing throughout Disney movies to do to villains, Jafar, Ursula, Scar, Hades, Dr facilier, Maleficent, Governor Ratigan.

-As for not knowing lgbtq+ rep, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that 90% of the shippers at their peak were in some way queer, you’d have had to really look to find someone not lgbt+, it’s fairly educated on the community. Hence why this ship and Voyd were so popular.

-Yes, she did manipulate her, but it’s up to the viewers interpretation how much was genuine and how much wasn’t, and we do know on Helen’s side it was genuine.

I’m not really sure how to reply to the ‘not even a good reason for them to become lovers’ as I’m unsure if it’s talking about the conversations or the manipulation so I’ll leave that be.

People can ship what they want to ship, it’s fictional and as long as it’s not shipping real people it’s not hurting *anyone* people can and should curate their own online experience and that includes just… ignoring ships you don’t like, there’s a reason there’s filters. Okay, who the fuck came up with the idea of shipping Helen with Evelyn Endeavor? I know that you guys WANT so much LGBT-shipping reps. But this isn't the ship that's healthy. It may look cute, but the chemistry here is terrible. Reasons: - Evelyn hates heroes, she USED Helen to make the heroes come together once they finally got the attention to the world that heroes should rise up again from the world, only to hypnotize them in them end and terrorize the city. She planned on making them to seem 'evil' in everyone's eyes, sharing her own perspective. - "-We don't know each other!" - Helen is already married, a mother with three kids and she loves her family. She will do everything to support her husband and children. (RANT: I've heard people supporting on 'cheating') - It's never healthy at all. Ya'll are just too dirty, you just wanna see these two women fuck each other. - 'But Evelyn has short hair, that means she's lesbian'. Look, we don't know her canon sexuality is, but wtf.
