Frankenstein the Musical English Translation 1
This probably won’t be a regular thing, but I’ve fallen in love with the Gothic score of Frankenstein the Musical with is so catchy and all moody as hell. So here’s my English version of “The Great History of The Creation of Life” (imo the second best song in the show) and is meant to be singable. I just love how blasphemous this song is lel. You can find one of the Korean version here and the Japanese version here. My version is based on both the Korean and Japanese versions, but I’ve changed some stuff to fit the syllabus and so on (My syllabus structure is more similar to the Korean version). I’ll probably translate some of the other songs over time. Probably like 0 people will care, but I hope to get some feedback lol
The Great History of The Creation of Life
The Great History of the creation of life now begins,
starting with the will to overcome human limitations.
Violate the Creator’s will, cast off his providence,
and through transgression, become unto God.
Yes, and from this moment on,
I alone shall be named Creator... <
Turn away from the fears festering inside my chest.
Inch my way ever closer to God’s greatest mystery.
Claim back the tributes who have been taken by death.
Shall there be light like at the very beginning of all things?
Then let there be light,
Let the thunder clap!
<
God! Bless my efforts now,
Or, rather, turn your back,
Curse me! To the very bitter end,
I shall fight against you!
I am Frankenstein! <
Human life is never
a product of fate or
sent down by providence
There is no destiny! <
Murder and war lead to destruction
A desolate history of despair
Repeating on and on without progress.
Seduction by mindless superstitions,
Violent witch-hunts by fanatic zealots,
Martyrdom of the oppressed innocents,
No way out from this debased world of man. <
Hot red blood rushes through veins, burning my whole body.
My heart unfreezes and melts, beating for the very first time.
My bare hands are trembling with anticipation. <
Like at the beginning of all things, breaking the silence of the dark
with overflowing abundance of light, with one breath of word.
Now open your eyes, feast upon the sight of my new world, take a breath and... <
Rise! ~
Bless me! To the very bitter end,*
I shall fight to save you! <
Now~ You will come alive!
Now! At last you shall rise! <
(Dialogue: Open your eyes! Wake up!) <
Break open the gates of hell and return,
Listen to me, lightning-struck soul, obey!
Your God and Creator commands you now
Open your eyes, and take a breath.
Now arise!
<
*In the Korean version, this part is phrased the same as the earlier part which called God to curse him, but I felt it’ll be better if he was talking to Henry here instead. Thoughts?
