Who is Amaryllis?
The first magician in the history of Gloomverse, Amaryllis, is shrouded in mystery. A legend who opened the doors for humankind to a new era: one of magic, and freedom.
However, they have yet to make an appearance in the comic unlike the others, and they have been missing ever since that first accomplishment. In this post, we will try to figure out who could be Amaryllis.
Letâs start with the obvious one and get it out of the way:
Amaryllis is dead.
This one seems logical. Itâs been 2000 years since that first feat of magic, and if the strain of parting the Storm didnât sever them, then time took care of it.
But I have some objections to that.
Mancers seem unaffected by time, and are both ageless and hard to kill. Even Prisma is not completely gone after what the Dark Lord, another mancer, did to her. Unless the same happened to Amaryllis, they are likely still kicking as much as Amadeus, Malus and Hyacinth are.
What if the effort was too much? They were a young teen, a new magician who used magic for the first time in history! They wouldnât have known about the rules and the risks, and severed themself.
As we have seen with Cakegirl, thereâs still a body left after a severing. Sheâs also (probably) completely intact and not broken like a statue or with huge scars from the blast and the fall.
If Amaryllis had severed, the body would have been preserved! Sure, it could have been lost, but the myth would have more solidity to it if for a time there was a body to call Amaryllis. Oral traditions would pass the word around, and pilgrimage would have taken place, which is something that can be traced with archeology.
My conclusion? Amaryllis is still alive and actively avoided the spotlight. They went into hiding after that first act and remained a legend on purpose.
Amaryllis is Amadeus
:)
We already alluded to that theory in some posts.
In my last point I stated that Amaryllis purposefully remained in the shadows, and⌠so did the Dark Overlord. Absolutely nothing is mentioned about a fifth mancer in Purpleâs book, no name, no deeds, nothing. Yet there was a fifth figure in the illustration of the mancers, and thatâs the only proof we have that they exist. The rest of the evidence and records of their existence might have been erased, possibly on purpose, to keep themself out of the spotlightâŚ
But as readers, we have access to more knowledge than Purple. We know that our resident mooching Hobo is also known as Amadeus the Dark Overlord, and that he is undeniably a mancer. In the dream, all of the known mancers were present: Prisma and a younger Amadeus (?) who were the stars of the show, but behind Yellow we also see (who we theorize to be) Malus and Hyacinth rushing towards the temple.
Theyâre all in the same room! Except oneâŚ. Have you ever seen Amaryllis and Amadeus together in the same room? No? Then I rest my case.
More seriously, Yellow calls out a name, but never finishes it. She says âAMAââ before being interrupted/before Rylie wakes up. Coincidentally, both Amadeus and Amaryllis start with âAmaâ and we have no way of knowing which one she was saying.Â
Our one eye witness of the scene didnât seem to know whether the Dark Lord was a man or a woman, so their look is ambiguous (long dark hair, face obscured, (possibly malnourished) slim body, concealing rags, nothing to indicate a preferred gender presentation). If it hadnât been that way, we would have been more prone to say âoh heâs a man, so itâs definitely Amadeus / oh sheâs a woman, so itâs definitely Amaryllisâ.Â
HOWEVER
Thatâs only if we assume cisnormativity.Â
Whoâs to say an immortal and powerful being would stay as their assigned gender? Sounds fake.Â
If one person would get that gender is a social construct that doesnât really matter, itâs a millenias old hermit with magical power.Â
Which brings me to this conclusion: Amaryllis and Amadeus are the same person who goes by different names depending on how theyâre feeling or what others call them.
Hobo never threw a fit like Rylie about being called by his name, and in that he reminds me of Wander. Embracing the names given to him.Â
What about the Storm? Amadeus and Amaryllis donât have the same magical abilities, one works with Darkness and the other deals with the sky. A good point, for which I fortunately have a retort.Â
Compared to a random magician, mancers have incredible powers and magic potential. This also includes their âmagic personalityâ which is much broader and encompassing than your average magician. Compare Cakegirl who can only create and manipulate cakes and other sweets, to Amadeus whoâs domain is darkness and who can presumably create and control everything that relates to it. Your first thought might be that controlling shadows isnât as all encompassing and powerful as what Iâm making it out to be, but Iâll reply that youâre thinking too small. With mancers, the sky's the limit! (pun intended)Â
Speaking of sky, a storm can count as Darkness, canât it? It casts an enormous shadow, and if you can manipulate shadows, you could also manipulate what casts it. The Storm also has a color palette reminiscent of the Dark Lord: Red, greys, black⌠I think thereâs a link!
And Iâll end with this:
Amaryllis was the first person to gain magic, and they did so as a child who grew up in caves, unable to go outside because of the raging Storm. Magic is based on your interests, on what you like to do. Would a child have such a love for the Storm depriving them of freedom that their magic would be sky-themed? Or would they resent it for everything they put them through? Itâs possible that Amaryllis was indeed fascinated by the Storm and that their sky magic reflects that, but I think itâs also likely that Amaryllisâ magic was not sky magic, but rather shadow magic. They grew up in caves, playing and hiding amongst the omnipresent darkness, and I think itâs more likely that they developed a fondness for this rather than for the storm. Since their first feat of magic was getting rid of the Storm, people remembered them as a sky magician, and they disappeared into the shadow before proving them wrong.
Amaryllis is Yellow
Did that last one seem a bit too far-fetched? Well Iâm not done!
Letâs say there IS indeed five mancers, and not actually four.
Amaryllisâ name has been cited in the comic by Cirrus. In Stratoverse, the Sun is revered as a Goddess who gives stratoversians their weather magic and looks after them. This Goddess is known by the name Amaryllis.
Amaryllis is a flower, as most ecoversians are named after a plant, but amarillo is also the color "yellow" in Spanish. Coincidentally, Yellow is both of those. She's originally from Ecoverse as her room indicates (the bed sheet has a Hyacy symbol), and she was briefly in Gloomverse during its foundation as part of Prismaâs entourage. After the events that transpired there, she went to Stratoverse where she is nowadays seen as a Goddess. The grandchildren of the King admire her and the Queen takes orders from her: sheâs in a position of power, in the shoes of a leader.
Sidenote: if the theory that Prisma and Yellow were a couple is exact, and that Rylie is their child (or a reincarnation of), then sheâs the âdaughterâ of two mancers and as such, probably dangerous. Sheâs also Rainbow themed, and what is a rainbow if not the convergence of Sky/Cloud and Light? Rylie Rainbow Mancer Confirmed.
It also makes sense that the weather mancer would find herself in Stratoverse, the cloud kingdom, near the planetary Storm that she cast away many years ago. She may be here because of the Storm, to keep it at bay with the help of other weather magicians. It is said that the closer you are to Stratoverse, the stronger magic potential you have. Coincidentally, Stratoverse is where the discoverer of magic resides. Could she be the source of magic?
However, Yellow has a ladder in her room and likely canât fly. If she was a weather magician or even a weather mancer like Amaryllis must have been, then she should be able to fly like the other stratoversians. Beside her passive coloration abilities, she doesnât showcase any magic. Why? Maybe she lost her wand and hat after the events in Gloomverse, maybe she canât use magic anymore⌠or maybe she does not have weather magic.
In her room, the bedsheet has a Hyacy symbol which means sheâs from Ecoverse, but AFTER the revolution of Malus and subsequent peace of Hyacinth. Unless the 500 years old Yellow really liked Hyacy ideology yet didnât feel the need to intervene during the slavery, the revolution or the restoration, itâs safe to say that she wasnât alive at the time and grew up during a period where it was already an established religion.
Purple also says that the Colors were a Mancerâs servant and even if âservantâ may not be entirely accurate, Prisma still seems to be in charge. If Yellow were a mancer, would she still be âYellowâ? Being a Color puts you under the authority of Prisma, if she truly was a Mancer (and an older one than Prisma) why would she become one of her followers and not an equal? I can see two ways out of this. Either Yellow is indeed a mancer and wanted to have her abilities enhanced by Prisma via Colorification, or Yellow is not the original Amaryllis, but a reincarnation who became a Color before getting magic/figuring out her powers.
Between those two, Yellow being a reincarnation is more convincing. However we donât know what are the consequences of becoming a âColorâ, and if Yellow being a mancer would affect this in anyway. Since Haroldâs and Purpleâs âcolor palette switchâ happened when they got their magic, we can theorize that Yellow became a color when she got her magic. How did it affect her powers? Itâs unclear, but like I said before, Yellow canât fly and likely canât use other forms of magic. Prisma âgaveâ her magic (like Hobo did for Harold) but maybe also took its real version away? Prisma had the power of another mancer under her control, which could explain why she had to be taken down.
While Yellow = Amaryllis is a very interesting theory, I believe that Yellow being Amaryllis is a red herring.
She literally denies being a goddess to the Stratoversian children who believe her to be Amaryllis.
Amaryllis is Rylie
I mentioned in the last one that Amaryllis may have âreincarnatedâ or something of the sort in Yellow. Itâs unclear if there IS a reincarnation mess in gloomverse, but the whole Color thing makes it seem plausible. It also explains why Amaryllis didnât do anything when human rights were being violated: they werenât there anymore.Â
Why Rylie though? Isnât Yellow a much likelier Amaryllis? Well, my dear conspirator, this theory also explains why Yellow wants her dead.Â
Letâs go over the evidence!Â
Rylieâs magic is very air-themed: she has blue boots that make her fly and yellow gloves that make others fly (Cakegirl got to fly thanks to the AIR PUNCH Rylie gave her). Both of her altered hats have a little wing as decoration and her wand is composed of two clouds (and a rainbow) which are sky symbols.
We also know that Amadeus and everyone else involved in this shebang didnât want Rylie to get magic. Why not? Magic is supposedly based on someoneâs interest, so her getting magic when she was obsessed with unicron the unicorn would have resulted in a non-threatening magic. It seems they were more worried about her potential than what kind of magic she would get, though Hobo looked like he recognised her wand/power when she used them during the camp out.
Everyone looked away. He did not.
Rylieâs magic is sky themed, and her potential was frightening enough that Amadeus tried to keep magic away from her. That sounds like a (sky) mancer to me.Â
During her dreams (specifically Hereafter) she is often seen in a cloudy landscape, walking on clouds in an open sky with no lands beneath. The clouds take her where she wants to go, they obey her instinctually.
And where does she want to go? To a cave, similar to the ones early humans might have lived in, maybe the cave the original Amaryllis lived in? The scene she sees inside possibly comes from either Prisma, Yellow or the baby, but the outside must come from Amaryllis, or an equally old mancer.
Now here comes the fun part. Why did Yellow ask Virga to kill Rylie? Why did Amadeus keep her magic away from her for so long?Â
Because Rylie is Amaryllis. A Sky mancer with the Storm, the deadliest phenomenon to exist on the planet, under her control. What would happen if an inexperienced magician accidentally unleashed their power? What if the Storm came back and sent all of humanity in a dark age?Â
Well⌠what if it had already happened once before?
In his book, Purple mentions âThe Returnâ but never explains what it is for legal reasons. We believe that the âreturnâ that drastically changed stratoverseâs society was the return of the Storm.Â
Amaryllis was the only one who could control the Storm, but they disappeared for centuries, and had no reasons to make it return.Â
Which is why I think it was an accident. A newly reincarnated Amaryllis would not be aware of the scope of their power. Like Wallis showed us, magic tends to go wild when a powerful magician is feeling⌠strong emotions. Sadly that magical outburst affected a lot more people and threatened all of Stratoverse. It seems like people donât want that to happen ever again.
It may seem harsh to kill Amaryllis and all of their reincarnation, but the fate of the world is in the balance. Yellow has shown with Stratoverseâs system that she cares more about the greater good than for the individuals. Whatâs one person in the grand scheme of things? Not much. Itâs a trolley problem, really. Except you either kill one person every time they reincarnate, or risk dooming the entirety of humanity. Would you be willing to take that risk? Yellow isnât.Â
Amadeus has tried a more peaceful way of resolving this conundrum: no hat, no magic, no problem! Alas Cakegirl forced his hand, and now he is keeping a close watch on Rylie. He wonât let it happen again.
One thing doesnât hold up. Amaryllis is seen as a Sun God, as a personification of the Sun. Not as a sky mancer. Even though the sun is in the sky, itâs much more related to Light, to Prisma, to Yellow. Everyone is quick to assume that she IS Amaryllis, but in this theory, she would be usurping this name to get her ways. I donât know if Virga would be aware of that, or if sheâs going to find out that Yellow lied to her and ordered the death of her goddess. Wouldnât that be fun :3
One last thing: AmaRYLLIS => AmaRYLIEÂ
Amaryllis is Ylil
I know that it sounds crazy. Ylil is an inversian and she doesnât even have magic. What sort of proof could I possibly have? Just one. Amaryllises the flowers are closely related to lillies. LillyâŚ. or should I say Yllil?Â
Thatâs it, thatâs the theory.Â
More seriously, while they may not be Ylil, it is possible that Amaryllis lives in Inverse. Maybe not as an official resident or maybe not currently, but them retiring from the world by living in Inverse when all the other events went down would make sense. It would explain their lack of intervention or relevance.Â
Inversian eyes can only support blues because the color of the sky is the only one that can not be blocked. The sky, the weather, they cannot be blocked. Theyâre the only ones allowed. The only magician to be tolerated in Inverse is the sky magician.Â
Thematically, Amaryllis relates more closely to Inverse than to Stratoverse.Â
Important event marked by a discovery? Check
Retiring from the world to get away from magicians? Check
Only like the sky? Check
Very secretive? Check
Instead of Amaryllis=Stratoverse and Prisma/Amadeus=Inverse/Gloomverse, I think we have Amaryllis=Inverse, Prisma=Stratoverse and Amadeus=Gloomverse.
Amaryllis is⌠someone else
Sometimes people exist to add flavour but end up not being relevant and thatâs okay.
Itâs not. Iâm a conspiracy theorist. Everything MUST be linked.
The end.
TL;DR
Amaryllis diseappeared on purpose, either by fleeing to inverse, staying in the shadows or going by a different name and face. While Yellow is a convincing Amaryllis at first glance, some stuff doesnât hold up. Amadeus and Amaryllis are linked, if not the same person. Itâs possible that Amaryllis reincarnated, perhaps in Rylie, and is a danger to humanity because of their control of the Storm.

I have a feeling that Jason is going to wait until the very last episode of the series to let bellarke kiss. Heâs such a troll lol
I donât have that feeling. Your feeling comes, I think, from social media and interviews. I have always been more focused on story than on getting clues from the creators. I depend on my own ability to break down a story. I think that a lot of JRâs social media and even interviews are designed to keep the âwill they/wonât theyâ of Bellarke going. He doesnât want people to be sure. Because the will they/wonât they builds romantic tension. HOWEVER.
Thatâs not how the story is going. Heâs writing an epic romance that has mythic weight behind it, which is the OPPOSITE of a will they/wonât they story. An EPIC story, where they always come together, where they are soulmates, where their love persists past space (literal) time (literal) and death (literal) is ANYTHING but uncertain. Also, JRâs social media presence is not really as anti-bellarke as fandom makes it out to be. He says one questionable thing per season, it seems, and the fandom blows it all out of proportion to erase all the narrative development on screen, and I just donât have the patience for that. Fandom wants 100% bellarke certainty, and JR does not want to give that. All he has to do is say âmisinterpretedâ and he doesnât even have to say WHAT he thinks is misinterpreted or who is doing the misinterpretation, all of a sudden the ENTIRE fandom thinks heâs saying Bellarke isnât romantic.... which he didnât. He can just HINT at a thing, and the fandom FLIPS THE FUCK OUT. Itâs exhausting, frankly.Â
And it doesnât fit the story on screen. I donât know why fandom thinks one line in an interview takes precedence over one SERIOUSLY bellarke centered season. Do we forget that he designed the season?
He developed a romance story in seasons 5 and 6 that made the ENTIRE show about Bellarke. Not just them getting together to save their people, but season 5 had Bellamy needing to save Clarke, to get her back in order to save HIMSELF. And Clarke needed to save Bellamy, even if it meant âletting him goâ to save HERSELF. They were necessary TO EACH OTHER, not just the team, not just the battle. Self.Â
Now in season 5, this is part of the main plot, but the conflict was still external. Still Diyoza, Octavia, Worms,Â
In season 6, he got even closer to it. Clarke and Bellamy were back together, as soul mates and partners, alas there was a romance between them, keeping them apart, canon girlfriend and then who is this asshole with Clarke?? Jealousy, ah. And yet, they both let each other go as romantic figures in order to be with each other as partners and soulmates... until... until....until Clarke is killed. Then the rest of the story just fades away. Clarke feels like giving everything up, Bellamy is happy, he has a family and a home now and heâll take care of Madi. She did her job she can let go until Monty snaps her out of it, and then she reaches out to... BELLAMY! Who until he found out she was alive wa ready to give up, too. Theyâre safe, he wonât fight anymore. He would keep going for his family. But once he finds out Clarke is alive.
Boom. The story THE STORY the main story is now about Bellamy saving Clarke. The CONFLICT was Josephine wanting Clarkeâs body. While the rest of Earthkru struggled with the moral complications of these body snatchers and what it meant to be complicit with that system, Bellamy was focused on one thing. Clarkeâs BODY. And putting Clarkeâs mind back in it. He left his people behind to save who he could save, who he NEEDED to save.Â
This is not a misinterpretation, itâs canon. He trusted them to take care of themselves and Echo to protect them, and he would save Clarke. A choice was made. Bellamy chose Clarke.Â
I get why JR would want to put confusion there. Because Bellamy made the canon choice, and Echo supported it. âGo save Clarkeâ she said. That also was controversial, because JR said it made Echo a hero. And we were all like, huh? How? Or how more so than anyone else? (and if that choice made her a hero in the narrative, then why were all her heroic plans utter failures. she was supposed to save Murphy from being killed and instead, murphy and raven and abby saved themselves and Echo was captured, and given nightblood and nearly turned into Simone. She escaped that with Gaia and Miller, but even so, was just in hiding until she could get back with the ACTUAL heroes of the show. Clarke (suddenly they could get he barrier down) and Bellamy (suddenly they could defeat the sanctumites.) Saying sheâs a hero outside of the story doesnât change that, while she is a warrior and even sometimes a leader, she doesnât do a very good job of protecting, saving, or winning.Â
If you follow only Echoâs narrative arc, sheâs a dangerous warrior with a dark past that she struggles with and a yearning to be free, but a desire to belong and be valued. She wants to be independent and strong, but is held back by the kings and queens who have claimed her for their subject. I think itâs a feminist story of identity and empowerment, and she might be the hero in her own story, but sheâs not in this one, and if letting Bellamy go save Clarke makes her a hero... then thatâs because sheâs letting go of the man she loves, the way Clarke let him go in season 5, so that he may be with the one he loves. It would make the heroic arc of her personal story letting go of the belonging that she found with spacekru to face herself, to be independent and to BE herself. BUT thatâs not total canon yet, just me defining her personal narrative arc that I see developing, so saying Echo is a hero is EXTREMELY ambiguous.Â
Does it mean sheâs the new romantic lead? No. Sheâs not that kind of a hero. In fact, her story isnt a romance story at all. Itâs an individuation story, a woman finding her identity and breaking free. If she were the hero of a romance story with Bellay then Bellamy should have been more concerned with her while he was off saving Clarke, and their reunion should have been more romantic and less relieved family. Sorry. Thatâs just how it is, because thatâs how romantic stories are told.Â
In fact, if B/E was the romantic story, when they reunited they should have run into each otherâs arms with light flares representing the emotional intensity, and shared their deepest fears and sorrows about what happened while they were separated, and the camera should have focused on their faces so we the audience could see their emotional connection. THAT would be how we would be shown a romantic story between Bellamy and Clarke oops Bellamy and Echo. But we werenât. Bellamy hugged Echo and then looked at Clarke and the close up reaction we saw was CLARKEâS. Remember, close ups are how the filmmakers tell us to pay attention to a characterâs emotions.Â
B/E was a canon relationship in seasons 5 and 6 but it was NOT a story. It put obstacles in the way of Bellarke and the Blakes in s5 but really, season 5 was about Bellamy getting Clarke (and Octavia back) and about becoming the hero that he is meant to be, the leader. It was about Clarke rejoining Bellamy and her people and still feeling on the outside, which, to be honest, is not just from 6 years alone but ALSO from everything that happened on the ground. Season 2 on had her isolated from her people again and again.Â
The only person she felt close to was Bellamy, and her 2199 calls proved that. She couldnât reach him but she kept calling. She didnât call her mother. Who she also couldnât reach. She didnât call all of spacekru. She didnât call Lxa... who she ALSO couldnât reach. They were all equally unreachable. But she called Bellamy and kept calling him. Because whether she could reach him or not, he was there with her. His heart was carried with her, inside of her heart.
So season 5 was about the Bellarke reunion and how they were separated by circumstances and the new world, Echo, Madi, Octavia, Eligius, Loyalty. But in the end, they chose each other. The most essential union for them was each other and only when they were together did it make sense, could they reach victory.
So that leaves s6 with Clarke and Bellamy TOGETHER, as soulmates and partners, however the things that got in their way were, 1. B/E 2. Buried feelings of guilt and rejection. 3. Josephine.
1 B/E as obstacle would not be an obstacle if Bellarke were romantic. But Clarke, jealous, has chosen to let Bellamy go to be with Echo because they love each other and if she canât have Bellamy romantically, then sheâll have him as family. Bellamy is constantly drawn to Clarke, even though he is wit Echo, and this raises the tension between B/E because he is actually comparing the two and Echo comes out on the losing end. But when he sees Clarke moving on (wisely) to someone else, he turns back to Echo. Thatâs not really as wise, because the problem is he has bigger feelings for Clarke. Even if Clarke didnât care for him, as he always fears, itâs not so good to be in love with someone else and stay with your girlfriend. There is an ACTUAL romantic tangle happening here, as much a some people want to pretend that the existence of B/E means that Bellarke CANâT be romantic. Iâm actually arguing that with the way the two relationships are framed, one as romantic but minor and troubled, and the other as non-romantic soulmates beyond death and the center of the story, that B/E as an obstacle is proof of romantic endgame Bellarke.Â
2. Buried feelings has Clarke making choices that keep Bellarke apart. If Clarke were honest about her feelings, Bellamy would be forced to face his own love for Clarke and let go of Echo. But sheâs not. Sheâs being noble and self sacrificing again and probably doesnât believe he loves her that way. On top of that is the guilt from leaving him to die. She needs him to know she is sorry for that, but she also runs away from the deep meaning of the 2199 calls. That she runs away from those means that Bellamy is STILL resonating with the concept that she doesnât love him THAT WAY, that risking him is worth it. Sheâs reiterating the part about him being her âfamily,â and then flirting with Cillian. So he, being noble and self sacrificing himself (but maybe not as noble as her because he picks a fight with echo over her not benig like Clarke yikes,) and recommits to Echo. UNTIL. Clarke is discovered bodysnatched and thought dead and heâs lost her and he pulls away from everyone and buries all those feelings and hides them from Echo too, despite the commitment to be emotional with each other. WHY? Because buried feelings. So when sheâs found alive, those feelings can no longer be buried. Because NOW saving Clarke, getting Clarke back, not letting Clarke die, NEEDING Clarke and, still unspoken, LOVING Clarke are no longer subtextual but textual and THE MAIN PLOT. NOT the obstacle. The motivation. HOW he will save Clarke and how, in fact, he does save her.
3. The MAIN OBSTACLE OF SEASON 6 was HOW WILL BELLAMY SAVE CLARKE. Not how will they save their people. Not how will their people save Clarke. Not the morality of saving Clarke. Not how does Bellamy/Clarke become a hero. Not oh no the hard choices. Just simply. BELLAMY MUST SAVE CLARKE and he must confront his feelings to do so. And face a villain in her body who is trying to manipulate him. Meanwhile the villainâs love story is paralleled to Bellarkeâs love story. AND BELLAMY SAVED HER WITH HIS LOVE WHEN ALL HOPE WAS LOST AND GAVE HER MOUTH TO MOUTH/TRUE LOVEâS KISS. And she was brought back to life and to him. The following episodes were them wrapping up the battle against these villains, whose worst crime was murdering Clarke. And whose biggest mistake was giving Bellamy hope that he could get his love back. CLARKE.Â
Troll.
Thereâs no troll here.Â
This is a fucking brilliant, heart stoppingly romantic story.Â
Weâve got a whole season where the truths of season 6, that Bellamy loves Clarke and that love is bigger than anything, and Clarke loves Bellamy so much that she can reach out past death to him, and that Echo is made of Ash and does not want to be a slave anymore, are going to resonate with Montyâs desire that they all live a good life where they can find happiness and love. Clarke wonât lose the people she loves anymore. Bellamy has faced that he needs Clarke and canât lose her and she is central to his needs. And Echo has confessed her identity and begun to break free of being the good spy to her master (the master is Bellamy.) All this is part of canon. And it came out in season 6.
To be honest, I donât know when heâll make them kiss.Â
It doesnât matter. I doubt heâll leave it to the end, because he is BUILDING to a conclusion where their union is an emotional payoff. This show DOES emotional payoffs. AND it does sex. In order to work that emotional payoff and give us the punch of Bellarke getting together means they have to do it before the very last episode, i think. I mean, maybe episode 13, like Bellamy saved Clarke three eps before the end. IDK.Â
But.
Thatâs not trolling. Thatâs a bonafide epic love story. No trolling included. Thatâs GIVING. Thatâs being so committed to the story youâre telling that you ignore all the bad fandom takes from people who think they can do better. And from the bitter people who didnât get what they want. Sour grapes we call that.Â
And as long as weâre sitting here, going, âOh that JR heâs a villain heâs trolling us he hates us heâs never gong to give us what we want,â then weâre going to miss the fantastic story he IS giving us.
And Iâm not going to ruin Bellarke or The 100 because Iâm narrow minded, spoiled and stubborn. You want to ruin your enjoyment because you think some man youâve never met is a troll out to get you? When heâs the one who invented this story and committed 7+ years of his life to bringing it to life? Thatâs on you.
Iâm in it for the epic love story. Not a kiss. A kiss is a kiss. Not love. A sex scene might be hot, but it doesnât make true love.Â
Bellarke is told over the course of 7 YEARS. Iâm not actually interested in reducing it to them hooking up.
People who treat us like weâre stupid for being satisfied with this story weâre getting while THEY get kiss/confess/sex with no endgame, or kiss/sex with no story? Like, yeah, I will actually take my scene where Bellamy brings Clarke back from death over your half-a-sex scene and then no interaction, or your post goodbye-sex âletâs not talkâ cuddle-scene. YEAH MAN. I NEED YOU MY LIPS TOUCH YOURS AND MY LOVE ALONE DRAWS YOU BACK FROM DEATH. There is actually no interpretation in that. They said she was dead. He said no my heart will save her head, told her her loved her, and gave her the kiss of life and she heard him and came back, fighting. When Josephine had already killed her. She woke up in his arms and had eyes only for him. And the next episode was full of them caring for each other and touching. TOUCHING. Intimate.Â
Troll? what troll?
Maybe people consider me delusional because I ignore bad fandom interpretations and JRâs not so great social media presence. Itâs because Iâm paying attention to the show, pretty much only the show, and I LIKE IT.Â

Basically my experiences with Zero Escape can be expressed with a âdo it for herâ graphic starring Akane Kurashiki. I adore her in all her complex, morally ambiguous, well-intentioned extremist, Machiavellian glory. So hereâs my mix tribute to her, complete with the usual obsessively detailed annotations under the cut.Â
AAA
Fairly self-explanatory, this song easily applies to a girl who jumps timelines, changes history and tosses aside moral concerns for the big picture and greater good.
âtime comes in particlesâ someone once said and this is what i remember/this is how my brain works.
.you wonât become numb, i wonât stay the same. if i try hard enough i can cry paper planes and weâll connect the dots in the history books and youâll see the bigger picture, iâll shrink down the greater good.Â
Akane will do anything to stave off the apocalypse and every time she reunites with Junpei or other friends, theyâre always completely different versions of themselves.
i think a storm is moving in. so watch out for our favorite apocalypse. and who will we be the next time we meet?
Uma Thurman
This song struck me as Junpeiâs POV in the first game, where Akane is manipulating him like a boss, doing whatever it takes to stay alive and even hitching a ride in his brainspace and hey, he seemed pretty okay with that.Â
I can work a miracle/keep you like an oath/May nothing but death do us part /You'll find your way/And may death find you alive
She wants to dance like Uma Thurman/Bury me 'til I confess/She wants to dance like Uma Thurman/And I can't get you out of my head
Divide me down to the smallest I can be/Put your venom in meÂ
Oh no!Â
"Junpei, I will never forget you. But please, forget me. You need to forget...I wonât let anything get in the way of my goals. Thatâs just  the kind of person I am. Even if that means I must lose my life, I swear I'll make the AB Project a success!"
Don't do love, don't do friends/I'm only after success/Don't need a relationship/I'll never soften my gripÂ
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be/I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine/I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
One track mind, one track heart
Iâm gonna live/Iâm gonna fly/Iâm gonna fail/ Iâm gonna die
Cold War
"This will be the culmination of many years of hard work. We cannot afford failure."
So you think that I'm alone/But being alone is the only way to be/When you step outside/You spend life fighting for your sanity/This is a cold war/You better know what you're fighting for
Just One Yesterday
Probably primarily addressed at Junpei. Sheâs âteaching him (and the others) a lessonâ by putting them in the Nonary game, giving him the information he needs to know so she can succeed. Itâs all so she can save her past self,  her âyesterdayâ. She doesnât care if she dies many times in the process.
(I know Iâm bad news)/(I saved it all for you)I want to teach you a lesson in the worst kind of way/Still Iâd trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday
And then after all that? She leaves him behind because she has more important things to do.
And Iâm here to give you all of my love/So I can watch your face as I take it all away
Strings and Attractors
I went around and read some extra material about Akane, and apparently the future version of her in VLR gets so good at projecting herself through the connected timelines she becomes really detached and basically omnipotent in a way. She âloses herselfâ in all the repeating timelines, and this song expresses those feelings.Â
And sometimes I/Get lost in timeÂ
The moment fading/We watch the end/Over again/And keep repeating
I feel like I'm just disappearing
Playing for Keeps
This song is Akane addressing her former kidnappers, as she masterfully arranges it so they kill each other. Revenge is sweet
"I must punish them. For the innocent lives they sacrificed. This is the only warning they will receive."
It's a lonely road where the forgotten go/Where your misery finds its company It's a long way down to the sacred ground/Where the reapers playing for keeps
You're next in line for judgement day now/Aren't you praying, aren't you begging that you're anyone else?
Well I bet you're sorry now/Well you did this to yourself
Still alive
GLaDOS/Akane OTP? They kind of have the same ends-justifies-the-means attitudes when it comes to their experiments on people, so this song fits Akane well, especially adding in some vengefulness towards her kidnappers. Amusingly, Junpei indicated (in an assholish way) that Akane is also pretty fond of cake in ZTD, so even that part fits.Â
We do what we must/because we can/For the good of all of us./Except the ones who are dead.
Look at me, still talking when there's science to do/When I look out there, it makes me glad I'm not you./I've experiments to run/There is research to be done/On the people who are still alive.Â
Black Sheep
You could consider this from Sigmaâs POV or basically any of Akaneâs accomplices in her apocalypse-erasing plan. She (and Sigma and Phi and co) knew the world was going to end. They prepared for it and now Akaneâs going to get everyone working to change the past.
Hello again, friend of a friend/I knew you when/Our common goal was waiting for the world to end/Now that the truth is just a rule that you can bend/You crack the whip, shape-shift and trick the past again  Â
Also sheâs gonna get a base on the freakinâ moon
Got real estate, I'm buying it all up in outer spaceÂ
Castle
Akane the cult-leader. She rules her organization with a iron fist and sheâs ready to dethrone the old man in charge of the rival cult.
I'm headed straight for the castle/They wanna make me their queen/And there's an old man sitting on the throne that's saying that I probably shouldn't be so mean
Oh, all these minutes passing, sick of feeling used/if you wanna break these walls down, youâre gonna get bruised/And now my neck is open wide, begging for a fist around it/Already choking on my pride, so there's no use crying about it
I am not a robot
Akane having to deal with emogothedgyJunpei, God pity her. Also applies to how she tends to suppress her feelings and vulnerability as well.
âIâm done playing action hero...Iâm an adult nowâ
âActually, Junpei, you seem pretty childish to me.â
You've been acting awful tough lately/Smoking a lot of cigarettes lately/But inside, you're just a little baby
I'm vulnerable/I am not a robot/You're lovable/But you're just troubledÂ
Soap
âJunpei told me I was a girl who âsaid things that shouldnât be said.â Â
Uh-oh, there it goes, I said too much, it overflowed/Why do I always spill?
I feel it coming out my throat/Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap/God, I wish I never spoke
Academia
âThis girl here, sheâs always been really smart. If even the tiniest thing is off sheâll start talking about âifsâ and âbutsâ like someone twice her age. But to all of us at grade school, she was strange. And well, kind of scary.â
Oh Academia, you can pick me up, soothe me with your words when I need your love./You're a difficult equation with a knack for heart evasion/Will you listen to my proof or will you add another page on?
Hope on Fire
Akane building and doing everything she can to manipulate time and prevent the apocalypse from happening again, even deliberately getting herself stabbed to death.
gotta leave gotta bleed/you've gotta stop lying still/'cause this is no kind of life/you don't need guarantees/you just want something to build/before you turn to the knifeÂ
gotta move gotta choose/you've got a difference to make/don't watch it happen again/gotta change rearrange/something's bending to break/it's just a matter of when
Blindness
Akane didnât want for any of this to happen. She was a victim of circumstance. She was forced into the role of savior of humanity- she chose to accept it  and ruthlessly did what needed to be done rather than run away, but thereâs no way she doesnât get weary of jumping timelines over and over again.
All the survivors singing in the rain/I was the one with the world at my feet/Got us a battle, leave it up to me
What it is and where it stops nobody knows/You gave me a life I never chose/I wanna leave but the world won't let me go
