( there's a lot in this that i don't necessarily agree with. some points are interesting and bring up good food for thought but, at the same time there's faults to said observations. )

i disagree with a lot of the “more fanciful headcanons” in op’s own terms ---- especially when it comes to the obscurus manifesting under positive emotions (which seems to contradict everything we  do  know about an obscurus and even contradicts some op’s own points). but there is certainly a lot to be said about the ‘scientific knowledge’ of an obscurus and obscurial that is stated as ‘fact’ in the movie and the fact that the wizarding community may not (probably doesn’t) fully understand them. it’s the problem of an unreliable narrator: the only two people who try and act like they know anything at all are newt (unreliable on account of his bias towards protecting & saving everything) and graves (unreliable on account of... well, everything).

the movie leaves a lot open to interpretation and i really think we’re going to see the idea fleshed out a lot more in the next one and personally i’m super excited about that
