All but 5 of them are 45-60 minute episodes (and 4 of those 5 are 25 mins), and 3 of them air twice a week. That's 22 shows from 7 different countries, including 3 GLs. And that's after I moved 3 to binges (MLMU, Meet You at the Blossom, and This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans) because I couldn't keep up and wasn't enjoying those week-to-week. It's TOO MUCH.

Currently Reading: I'm still on book 3 of MoDu (Silent Reading), because I have had no time to read! I love this series I just haven't been prioritizing it. Also reading the Twilight out of Focus manga alongside the anime as it airs.

New Year's Ask Game for Fic Writers 🤍

I was tagged by a couple of pals to do this a few days ago, and i'm finally getting to it! thank you @ardent-fox @suzy-queued @energievie 🖤

To close out 2023…

1) What fic did you have the most fun writing this year and why? Or, if you can’t decide, what was most fun about writing this year for you?

the most fun i had was while writing honeycomb, because julissa @heymrspatel and i got to play with our horny psychic link again and it was the BEST.

2) What’s a scene/story that you finished and felt “wow, I really accomplished that, that actually went so well”?

let them see. writing ian and mickey fucking with an audience and making it believable was HARD. i'm still not sure how well i accomplished that, but i'm proud of it.

3) What helped provide the most inspiration for stories, if anything? Was it poetry? A song on repeat? A gorgeous gifset? A walk outside? A book you read that made you want to change everything? Whatever it was! Tell all.

i listened to infinite granite by deafheaven on repeat. i just think it's beautiful, and it's good music for zoning out and imagining. lyrics from that album sometimes serve as working titles for my fics before they get real titles, and in fact i did name a fic after lyrics from that album. waiting in the light

4) What is something you want to share about what you’ve written this year? A particular line, a comment that made you feel really good, a scene that was difficult to write — you get to choose! What do you wish someone would ask you about when it comes to what you’ve written?

i just wanna talk about feels like a dream. setting the atmosphere for that was so fun. i wrote it so quickly, i could see it all so clearly in my head. i wanna talk about ian sucking on mickey's tongue. i wanna talk about the moment ian puts the collar on mickey and how he gets him to tell him why he wants it. i wanna talk about how ian talks to him and takes care of him and makes him feel owned. i wanna talk about how mickey sucks ian's dick like he needs it to live. i wanna talk about how important the atmosphere is in that moment, how even they felt like they didn't want to move too quickly and disturb what they had built up that night. i wanna talk about how mickey's so sleepy while ian's fucking him that he wonders if his orgasm is going to jerk him awake or make him even more sleepy and blissed out. oh god, and mickey calling ian daddy throughout. i just think it's sexy. i wrote it in september but i posted it at the very end of kinktober when people were likely just burnt out on it, but it's there and it's dreamy and it's kinky and i like it.

And to start off 2024…

1) Do you have any writing/creation goals for the year? What are they?

yes! i just want to post more fics. i still want to participate in kinktober and i want to format it differently this year. i want to write a multichapter au as well.

2) Is there a fic or idea that you’re really excited to be able to continue to work on in the new year (shout out to my fellow fic writing folks who take forever to finish wips, sometimes it’s nice to be able to continue working on something even if you wish you’d gotten it done! Now you get even MORE time with it!)

yeah, that multichapter au idea! i had written quite a bit for it and i HATED the direction it was going in and it made me want to scrap the whole thing. i had a helpful conversation about it with bee a few weeks ago and i've got new ideas for it, so really i want to tackle that. it just feels daunting because i've written thousands of words that i feel like i need to get rid of. i basically need to start over to make it work. but it'll happen!

3) What’s something new in your writing you want to try/are going to try? A different writing style? Different fandom? Darker works? Fluffier? Longer or shorter?

baby's first au! also i think i mentioned this before but i wanna try writing destiel smut. like deeply emotional, feral, inhuman, otherworldly reunion fucking. we'll see if i ever get to it though.

4) What’s something you love about your own writing that you will continue to appreciate in the new year?

i think i'm good at writing physical sensation. i find smut really fun and i think i'm pretty good at it. not just because i'm good at describing physical sensation, but for all kinds of reasons. i think i'm reasonably good at keeping ian and mickey in character while they're doing all kinds of things, and i like that. i think i'm good at setting a tone and atmosphere. i don't know man i just like it to be a sensory experience, and i think it often is.

Gallavich Gift Exchange 2022

It’s a wonderful time of the year yet again! Time for another gift exchange! I’m keeping it pretty much the same as last year, since that seemed to go well. Hope to get many participants again!

Hello, everyone! It’s that time of the year again! Are you all ready for Gallavich Week 2022? I’m so excited for this one! We’re doing things a bit differently this year, as you might have noticed. More details about the prompts as well as full guidelines after the Read More. Quick reminder that all kinds of work are welcome, as long as they are original. Spring is here! (well, in the Northern Hemisphere it is) The boys are ready for some spring cleaning. Are you?

Welcome to the first ever Gallavich Spring Cleaning!

What is that, you ask? Easy! It’s a multiwork event hosted by @gallavichfanficlibrary and yours truly (with some help of @gallavichprompts​, thank you!) . That means any kind of work is accepted: fics, fanart, videos, gifs, you name it! Oh, and did I mention there are no requirements either? Drabbles and one-shots are more than welcome (my burn-out brain actually thanks you). 

The only rule for this event is: it’s got to be PG-13 - in other words, clean. (Get it? Cause of spring cleaning? *wink wink* I’m very smart). That means no mature teams, no smut, no M18, no ~lemon~. Of course swearing is allowed (I mean, it’s still Ian and Mickey we are talking about), just keep it sfw. Think of it as a reverse kinktober, if you will.

Prompts are under the Read More. You can use only one, several or all of them. Mix and match, if you want to! Repeat them, even!  They’re just your starting points!

Situation prompts:

Spring cleaning.

It's the first sunny day in what feels like forever, after several weeks of bad weather and storms that have kept them spending most of the time in their apartment. 

Spring: sniffles, pollen, and tissues.

The Big Easter Egg Hunt.

The only thing Mickey knows about his soulmate is that he’s supposed to meet him in the spring.

Teenagers Ian and Mickey somehow end up spending St.Patrick’s Day together, and it’s not a date but it also kinda sorta feels like it might be? 

Spring on the Westside feels different than on the Southside.

Ian and Mickey are slowly turning their apartment into a ‘home��, bringing small touches of themselves into it.

Mickey’s always been a light sleeper who has suffered from nightmares. It’s only when they finally get their apartment sorted that he starts to sleep well and really understand what a good night's sleep can be.

The lease on the apartment is almost up. (Do they stay in the apartment? Move out? Go apartment hunting? Hire a realtor?)

One day Ian comes across an injured cat and nurses it back to health. After a few days he finds a stranger on his couch and the cat is nowhere to see. (Shapeshifting AU)

The last thing Ian expects to see in the mysterious box that Mickey brings to the dugouts is kittens. And he definitely didn’t expect that they would end up caring for them together.

5 times they visited family members + 1 time the family members visited them.

Debbie wants to make a good old Gallaghers’ style BBQ. (Everything goes wrong.)

The king sends his best knight to kill the monster that lives in the forest. Turns out, the monster is pretty charming and doesn’t actually harm anyone.

Jyn and Cassian?

Hah, I got this right before queuing a Jyn/Cassian gifset, and I was just slightly revising (>_>) a chapter of Jyn/Cassian fic. I do indeed ship it.

1- What made you ship it?

It sounded like my kind of thing from before the movie even came out, but the reality of the tension between them, the underlying (and later overlying!) rapport, and the mixture of very profound, mirrored(heh) similarities/parallels with high-contrast oppositions is pure distilled brain candy for me. They overreact very quickly given the circumstances (they both jeopardize themselves for each other in situations where there is zero practical need to!), which is always fun, and they're always drawing physically near to each other (there's the justly beloved elevator scene, though the circling and leaning in the "welcome home" scene is my personal favorite), which is also extremely fun. :D

There's the whole concept of them as people who have been denied homes by the Empire and find it in each other, without rejection of the very important allegiances and ties they do have. And they're very pretty, haha. Also, I enjoy (for a certain value of enjoy) that their dynamic is quite blatantly romantic IMO but the way it's cut short through an almost random act of Imperial cruelty is ... it's awful but it also a) makes sense and b) makes me feel even more about them. They deserved so much better. :(

2- What are you favorite things about this ship?

That mixture of close parallels and sharp contrasts + tension/rapport + UST you could cut with a knife are probably my favorites, honestly. I don't want my faves to be too similar, but I like parallels a lot and I don't like losing sight of the ways in which paralleled people are similar, which is a fine line to walk that Rogue One walked extremely well.

In that, it reminds me a lot of my ship of ultimate destiny, book!Darcy/Elizabeth, where they don't have to be basically the same—and aren't—to have a strong and important fundamental affinity that ultimately pulls them together.

3- Is there an unpopular opinion you have on the ship?

Many, as usual! I dislike the hyper-sexualization of Cassian with all my soul—it's not something I care for in general and I often imagine my faves as grey-ace, but it is something I stick to more stubbornly with him as a reaction to the sexy Latino stereotypes with a character who gave zero indication of having them is pretty gross to me.

I think Jyn was more justified in the circumstances of the Eadu fight and that Cassian was more correct, which basically ensured my annoyance at every conceivable iteration of discourse around the fight.

Also, in AU-land, I'm agnostic (as usual :P) on them having children. I don't think they're likely to have unplanned children, but I can see planned pregnancy or adoptions once the galaxy is more stable. I can also see them not choosing that and having full lives regardless. The likelihood of it just depends on the scenario and the writing for me, really.

What I've Watched Lately

I finally watched Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. It was… fine?

I mean, I was fooling around with other things while it ran in the background for at least half of the time, so not as good as the first one.

I could’ve just as easily not watched, because I’d seen the best scenes in via gifsets on Tumblr already.

I finished Stalker (2014) – and, well, I knew what I was getting into, watching an only one-season-long cancelled-years-ago show.

I liked all the main characters. Except the top psycho, obviously. I did almost feel sorry for the lesser psycho at the end, though. Almost. Perry got way over his head and met a fitting end.

The show ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, but eh. For watching it in order to kill ���fire with fire’ (read: get over a fictional character hungover by watching a show with the same actor), it was a good show with intriguing characters and main story arc, despite a few shortcomings. I could watch more and see it improve, but I am happy with it as it is, too (as if I had a choice.)

I also watched the third and last season of Derry Girls. I think S2 was the best of the three, but the this one was also good (especially the parts with Liam Neeson), both entertaining and deep in places and the show will go into history as one of my favourites.

We got NCIS Hawaii here at the end of June on week nights and the first season ended last week.

You can guess the reason why I started it (a tall, dark, and handsome reason :P), but I ended really liking the whole team and their dynamics. The latter seemed very natural and unforced and I am looking forward to the it develop and grow through the next season(s).

I think it was you, @eveningspirit, who brought this one to my attention, so thanks, it is a good not-stupid-but-not-too-demanding show to unwind with.

I queued some pretties for the week, so be warned.

Oh, oh! I also started S2 of Sanditon, watched exactly 1 episode and remebered why I was reluctant to watch it, then went to spoil myself thoroughly and decided it isn't worth my time and emotional cost.

FFS, a Jane-Austen-work-based show is supposed to end happily for the heroine. Sure they might still give Charlotte a happy ending (is there even gonna be more seasons ?), but I am not up for being dragged there through pain. :/

anyway to be honest i was shocked when it was revealed! i guess in fairness a lot of the flirting was from eva's side but imo the writing/direction was sooo deliberate about the attraction/good vibes between them lol (teasing jokes, gabriel complimenting her laugh, them going to the art museum together... him holding her hand & comforting her after running into her ex!). idk maybe it was just my own heart eyes for sharon horgan that clouded my reading of those moments 😅

based on not seeing him in the present timeline, i kind of prepared myself for something to not make eva x gabriel happen, but i didn't expect the reason to be because he's gay! at least he's not physically hurt/injured like i originally thought was going to happen (i really hope i'm not speaking too soon since there are 5 episodes left 😬).

it did kind of feel underwhelming since we've been following eva's ~flirting~ for a bit and the audience is rooting for her to be happy, especially given the details of her backstory, but i guess the aftermath of her finding out he's gay just shows what kind of person eva is, like her going back into the boat to talk to him about him not being out at work, forbidden love, and how his relationship is like with his family...

and i Know a person's coming out shouldn't be about a straight person's reaction to it, but given the situation, eva choosing to go back to the boat and being supportive of and listening to gabriel during a vulnerable time for him— even though she felt stupid and felt like she was strung along— idk, i feel like it shows who she is as a person— and as the eldest garvey sister who raised her sisters when they were all pretty young. but anyway i do agree that gabriel had to have realized what he was conveying to eva, like i'm saying those were major heart eyes at the pub!!! 😂😭

i still love gabriel too! i'm curious as to why he wasn't at the funeral (or was he? i don't remember lol) and i'm hoping we'll see him somewhere in the present timeline and see how he and eva are doing as friends at the office <3

Something I've observed....A season or so ago Olivia had a whole storyline about how she was slowing down and aging taking a tole on her ability to chase perps. Which you know I didn't love, but now it feels a pinch misogynistic when you compare to the stunts and motorcycle chases they have Elliot doing at 60 years old. I don't know, am I reading too much into this? It just makes me think about how men at 60 are James Bond and still considered sexy, but women not so much.

On the one hand, yes. Hollywood's treatment of older women is deeply, deeply sexist, and men do get to be action heroes well into their 60s, and yes there are a few movies with action women older than 25 but there are still so few of them that they are still novel. And it leaves real men hating themselves for aging and not being like the muscled up assholes in the movies, and leaves women thinking their lives end at 25, and it's a culture that encourages actors to starve and dehydrate and torture their bodies to fit an unrealistic ideal -

Which is why I liked that storyline for Olivia. And crucially Fin also tells her that he's not chasing after perps these days either, that they both have to accept that their bodies are changing, and that it isn't the end of the world, that she doesn't have to be wonder woman, that she doesn't have to hold herself to superhuman standards, that it's ok. My friends in their fifties are laughing and grumbling their way through adjusting to these changes, and give me hope that when I get there I can handle it gracefully, too, and I appreciated the humanity of the storyline.

Plus Mariska only has one good lung and she keeps breaking herself. I'm ok with them not giving her tons of stunts and even writing some of the things she's personally dealing with into the story.

So I'm not gonna place the fault, such as it is, on svu; I thought that was a story we don't often see, but one that's worth telling. That things change, and we adjust, and that's ok. Olivia gets herself a trainer and lets the kids do the heavy lifting and that's a reasonable progression.

if there is blame we can place it on oc, but they do have an insanely buff male lead, Chris really is just like that, and it's interesting that you sent this ask today bc today I had queued up one of my own gifsets, with Elliot sliding across the hood of a taxi twice, twenty years apart. And he's a lot less graceful in the more recent scene. They're not gonna say he's slowing down, but he's changing, too.

Are the gifs recent? I also noticed it in the live. But why does jk's face look so skinny. He seems to have lost a lot of weight. His eyes seems different too..

Also yes! Dark hair suits him the best. I'm not a fan of blonde jk. But the red hair was really good too! I just don't find them doing anything different when he has long hair. They could do so much. But I also prefer short hair bcz of that.

Which gifs? I think most of the gifsets I have queued up are recent, yeah. His face is skinnier... It was really noticeable on the vlive, even if I can't tell that he's lost weight just looking at his body.

I think JK's hair is too thin for most hairstyles? Remember when he tried to slick it back for the My Time performances, but his hair wouldn't behave and the hairstyle fell apart completely? It happened at MMAs or MAMAs (can't recall which) too. Any time they try to push back his hair or style it with a lot of gel, Jungkookie's hair gives out on him, haha. It's easier to just let his hair fall naturally and style it a bit, or to put it up into a ponytail. I also think perms don't last very long with him. But Jungkook's hair seems to be naturally a bit wavy, and that's why they sometimes style it like that, although it's not a look I particularly enjoy on him.

Let’s get right into it, shall we:

Planning

I never do much planning. Maybe I should tho... I had this set in mind ever since I first saw that WenZhou scene in episode 32. The intimacy instantly reminded me of the two other scenes I included in this set. For some reason there’s always That Scene That Hits Me in danmei live adaptations!!

At first I had planned to do 6 separate gifs but I didn’t like the format so I decided to try overlays! It was my first time blending two gifs together. I think it turned out quite fine.

So I looked for the respective scenes, cut them into clips, and put them through Avisynth. I decided to go quite big so I chose a dimension of 540x400. (Usually my gifs are 540x370.)

I save all the clipped out scenes in a folder inside the folders for the respective dramas.

Creating

So, for the first gif I first imported the two clips separately. Then I deleted the extra frames for each one and sharpened them (also separately). For sharpening I use this action that includes converting them into smart objects. I mostly use the “Sharpening V1″ option, sometimes if it looks good also “Sharpening V2″.

Now I duplicated the Yunlan part of the gif (left side) onto the Shen Wei part. I tried the “Lighten” blending mode like HanYi explained in her tutorial, but it wasn’t right for what I had in mind lol. So I simply set the blending mode back to normal and added a mask to one of the gifs:

And I blacked out the area where I wanted the underlying gif to show up. So now it looks like this:

A bit sad, isn’t it? So in the next step I went through my usual colouring process: Brightness/Contrast, Curves, Levels (sometimes I use them, sometimes I don’t), Vibrance, Selective Color, Hue/Saturation. The biggest problem was to make the skin color vibrant but not too yellow or pink (somehow I always ended up with either of these).

(I’ll be honest, I don’t usually change this much. I don’t normally touch whites and neutrals at all. It’s just that this gif was pretty difficult to colour ksfhsdkjf)

This is what it looks like now:

I definitely wanted to include typography here, which is also something I did for the first time heh. So I’m sure there’s easier ways to do this but alas, here is how I did it:

I added a text layer and typed in the quote. I wanted to go for something simple so I turned to the good ol’ Verdana font. I wanted it to look like a box, so I played around with the space bar and manually adjusted the spaces between letters which you can do where the little VA symbol is:

After I was done with all my gifs (lmao) I decided I wanted to add the quote in hanzi too, as a transparent layer in the background. So I looked up the quotes in Chinese, pasted them into another text layer and set the blending mode to soft light. I also played around with font size and spaces. The font I used is one of PS’s pre-installed ones called FZShuTi.

Added the watermark, and done!! Then I repeated basically the same process for the other two scenes, except that I didn’t need to blend two gifs together for the last one. I had to adjust the layers for colouring individually since they are three different shows with different lighting, setting, and colouring and I wanted it to look at least a bit consistent (🥵).

Posting:

Yeah so I’m pretty impatient when it comes to posting but I queued this one to post in the evening as I do for most of my content. I loaded the gifs into a photo post, added an ID and the Darwish quote. It was quite difficult to find a quote that fit all of these pairings but that one hit me in the face (Mahmoud pls....).

Added the names of the shows and the episode numbers, plus a link to the set that finally convinced me to make this hehe (thank u Aamna).
