Our ranger crit and did 27 points of damage at level 2 (hunter's mark + fury of the small), which would enough to one-hit down anyone in the party except for me (barb, 30hp), much to his player's surprise. (He's our DM for our other campaign and crits constantly against us, but apparently never does as a player.)

And then one of the ratlings crit on my and dealt 33 points of damage. Luckily I'm raging, and had 32 hp including my remaining temp, so I still have 16hp left, luckily. And then the next one that hit me only dealt 1 damage, so...
