i keep thinking about how people's voices often sound different in different languages and like. garak hearing for the first time julian speaking kardasi instead of julian's voice being filtered into kardasi via the UT and how it changes his voice and timbre and pitch and losing his mind a little bit

#i do subscribe to the headcanon that garak is often just speaking federation standard bc he can #and because it allows precise-ness that the UT might otherwise gloss over or screw up #also the headcanon that julian sometimes just turns off his UT and decides to casually learn another language #he's known kardasi for years he's just never spoken it because that's too vulnerable and giving too much away #right up until garak accidentally tells julian he loves him in a fight and julian demands he say it again -- in kardasi #switching the fight over to garak's mother tongue because he wants to Hear It #otp: there's hope for you yet
