I made an animatic of my favorite scene from Rise of Kyoshi.

I clearly got more confident as time went on, and there is plenty I would like to have done better, but I'd rather take that knowledge with me into the next project instead of toiling over this one forever.

For a bit of context (spoilers for a four year old book?), they're on an iceberg surrounded by water. At this point in the book, Kyoshi is only known to be an earthbender, so she's seemingly helpless, but ends up ripping earth all the way from the seafloor to stop pirates from kidnapping Yun, the boy who is believed to be the current Avatar.

#avatar #atla #kyoshi #animation #i also took some creative liberties with details #ie the telescope man #also the book says that kyoshi “slams her feet into the crowding bridge stance.”#i could only find one reference image for what crowding bridge looks like and it was not a very interesting pose for this purpose #i gave myself a deadline of like 10 days to do this and i think that's the only reason it got done #because with everything else i tend to get stuck trying to make things perfect and never finish #so i suppose self imposed pressure and short deadlines is how i need to handle myself more often #also the fact that when i started this project i found out that young kyoshi and tagaka have canon designs thanks to avatar generations #so #endlessly grateful for that
