despite how different their personalities are, clara & azz are really similar in the sense that despite the fact they have extremely loving families & are super popular among their younger relatives, they have absolutely no idea how to connect to kids their age. before they meet iruma, they’re both mainly popular for their magic, too. clara’s bloodline ability means that she had people approach her, but only for the wrong reasons, while everyone seems to be in awe of azz’s mastery of fire but don’t really know how to approach him (tho of course we see him shrug off a lot of ppls attempts to). i think it makes a lot of sense that they fight over iruma at first, because they have literally like. never had anyone who sees them as someone as their equal, and they’ve never really had to share a friend before. iruma’s in the same boat, of course, which is part of the reason they latch onto each other so immediately. they’ve all gone so long without this kind of relationship, they don’t want to have to spend even a second apart
